asus says there is no way to relock but we will see if the devs here cant figure something out

You CAN NOT Relock. The prime devs worked on it for months, and couldn't get anything working. If you decide to unlock you void your warranty and no longer get official ota's. You do get access to custom roms though.

Correct. The only reason I would recommend unlocking, is so that you can install a custom rom. If you do not want to install a custom rom you shouldn't unlock.

Can you still install stock firmware with adb/vipermod using blob files?

Everything works on the tablet still. Asus just has your SN blacklisted
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA

you can update, however not by ota. you update by flashing roms that are updated.

There may not be a way (yet) of relocking the bootloader, but there should be a way of preventing ASUS from logging the serial. From the decompiled unlock tool, the tool is sending something to https://mdm.asus.com/DMServer/DeviceState. However, that may not matter. In a previous thread about this (for the Transformer Prime), one developer found that the result returned from the ASUS server is stored in a variable that's never used

I doubt they blacklist it, they did after all provide the tool. Of course, they do say they won't officially support if you do unlock, but that doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't if you asked them.

AFAIK the unlock tool requires an internet connection, this is for the purpose of notifying ASUS on what tablets have been unlocled

Check up with the Prime forum - they have much more experience with this issue. AFAIK, unlocking means your on your own and ASUS means it.

Is there a way to obtain root without an unlock? Sorry new to this game still reading
I have been enjoying the stock asus rom for now and just want root access but don't feel voiding the warranty less than 24 hours after buying it from best buy.
Really want to try the 6 axis controller for some emulating and who wouldnt love some overclocking (from what i have read this is possible on stock kernel)

SOMEHOW, the "Device is UnLocked" has disappeared from boot screen
As I mentioned here just earlier today (or the full thread here), the "Device is UnLocked" has vanished from my boot screen. The screen that first shows up after you start your TF300.
I had gone through A LOT the past couple of days trying to UN-BRICK my device. Once I fixed my TF300, the "Device is UnLocked" is no longer in the upper left-hand corner anymore.
I have no clue what I did, or even if it's really "Locked" again. All I know is that it's gone. I think I might have accidentally tweaked something that might have just turned off the actual "Device is UnLocked" text. But I don't know...

The OTA/Bootloader issue

OK - so I am yet another one who just got the Infinity TF700 and cannot receive any OTA updates and receive the infamous 'network issue' error message when trying to use the unlocker apk. Question - are there any developers (or other talented people) who would be able to figure out what the unlocker does so that we can get a manual unlock like we have to do for the manual updates? Probably a stupid question - if it was possible, it probably would have already been done by someone. Just a thought.
Welcome to the team of locked devices screwed up by Asus. No solutions provided by Asus, too complex to develop a soft to unlock (encrypton). To summarize almost no chance to unlock your device.
I have the same problem. No OTA and no Unlock. I have make the Update to .26 manually but i can not manually unlock.
Yeah, after doing some further research, it's not just the Infinity. The same problem occurs with all Asus tablets - some can unlock, some can't, and there doesn't seem to be any solution. Sucks big time cause other than a tiny bit of light bleeding, this thing is fabulous after manually updating to the .26 version.

Same issue has been on the Prime as well, as tmaurice pointed out, and while a lot of people have tried, all have failed thus far due to the encryption level used. I think there is a straight 0% chance of any development to a third-party unlocker, sorry. And it sucks, I know. Returning it might be the only option.
So the best thing to do if i can't unlock the bootloader is to just return it and get a new one and hope that it can unlock? Without being able to unlock i cannot flash a new rom, kernel or anything, correct?

Yes, and yes. I'd keep returning until you get an unlockable unit -- if you really want to have OTA. And no, you can't do anything minorly advanced whn your unit is locked (no ROMs. no kernels, no recoveries).
I have now my second Infinity and the same problem. I can not unlock .

I see a lot of different people doing 2 or 3 RMAs and still having the same problem as a lot of us. Samsung has to be aware of the issue by now. Not sure if they're just ignoring it or don't know how to fix it. If you dig around their website you can find quite a few 404 errors and dead links as well. I think they have some serious problems with their servers.
Is there anyway to tell if I can unlock my bootloader without going throught the process? At which point does it show the error when you try to unlock? Anyone know?

Not really, but a positive sign would be if you were able to receive OTA. Mostly if you have issues with OTA updates you could also have with bootloader unlock... but still no way to be sure without using tha unlock tool.
EDIT: I've just unlocked mine 5 minutes ago without any issue. My tabled come from the batch C6OKASxxxxx and didn't had the OTA update issue either.

My S/N is the C6O series and will not OTA or unlock. There are several others in the C6O series that are also unable to lock. At first we thought it might be the 'O' being read as a 'zero' by the Asus servers (maybe they had it wrong in their database), but a couple of people switched their serial numbers between the numeric and the letter for the third digit, but neither solved the issue. It's definitely something either with Asus' servers or their database of serial numbers. Someone in the Prime forum pulled apart what happens when you click the app, and the first thing it does is reach out for confirmation from Asus - and more than half of us with valid serial numbers are getting an immediate bounceback with the network error. Kinda frustrating. At the moment I'm OK with it since we can still root and manually apply the latest updates, but at some point more development is going to happen on these units and I'd love to flash away like I have with all my other devices.

That's not a solution though, it still wont let him unlock.
Before I exchanged mine, it was C60 and would not unlock.
Here we go again. Just when I think I finally got an ASUS tablet without issues. I went through 3 primes but OTA updates was not a problem. I had to manually update my Infinity to both .22 and .26 firmwares. It is an easy process so I wasn't that concerned. I haven't attempted to unlock yet. Is there anyone who didn't get the OTA updates but was able to unlock or do both situations always happen together?

Unlock bootloader for OTA Jelly Bean update

Hello all. I was just wondeirng if there is a way to unlock the bootloader for an OTA JB update. I checked Asus website but only saw one for ICS. Is this something will come out in due time? I eventually want to root, but figure this is the first step.
Thanks,

It works for JB as well, I did it.
its correct. i unlocked my JB WW version with the ICS unlocker
Thank you both for the info. So, is it possible to root the OTA JB, or do I have to figure out how to downgrade it and follow one of the other methods?
Thanks again,
Mike

There is No Reason to Unlock the bootloader for an OTA JB Update for the TF300T. You can Download the Firmware at ASUS its Available for some SKU's
http://www.asus.com/Tablet/Transformer_Pad/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/#download
Warning Unlocking the bootloader will Void your Warranty.
If you Really want to Unlock the bootloader ASUS has an App at the link above also in the Downloads Section that will allow you to do that.Once its Unlocked it can Not be Locked again.
When you run this App it Cuts Off your OTA and records your Serial Number and sends it to ASUS.
Also if you would like to Root the TF300T it is very easy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689193
You Must Root the TF300T Before any Upgrade to Jellybean. You can Protect your Root with the OTA Rootkeeper App.and Restore it after the Upgrade to Jellybean.
Rooting the TF300T will also Void your Warranty with ASUS but it is Possible to Unroot if you run into a concern were you would need to use your Warranty.
@funnel71 - Thanks for the info. I will look into it tonight.
@Izzyb914 - The problem is that I have already accepted the OTA JB and I am still locked and unrooted.

I, as well as several others, have lost their root even with OTA Rootkeeper saved and not able to get it back. For those that have JB and cannot restore root, Bootloader unlock is the only possible root method at this time.

nVFlash with Jellybean

is such a thing possible at all with the tf700? i'm hesitant to root/unlock/flash roms until there is an unbrickable option out...
NVFlash works fine - it doesn't matter what version of Android your tablet is currently on. The only pre-requisite is that you have saved your TF700 "blobs" while you were on the .26 firmware or earlier. Once you have the saved the files, NVFlash will *always* work, regardless of the Android version.
If you've already upgraded to .30 or JB *before* saving your blobs with NVFlash, then you are stuck, there is currently no way to obtain the "blobs" needed to use NVFlash if you are past the .26 firmware before saving your blobs.
Hope that makes sense...

NO, the nvflash backup is for your device only.
I wonder whether the guys from Asus service use nvflash to rewrite everything in case the bootloader gets messed up as many users did with TWRP 2.2.2.0 or CWM 6.0.1.3?
I read somewhere in the forums that they actually have to replace the entire motherboard in this kind of a situation. Any truth to this?
Yep. All hard bricks with the TF201 got new main boards. No one can unlock either after they get their tablets back from RMA after this. There's a big thread about not being able to unlock on the prime forum.

So let me get this right...if the motherboard is changed than you can no longer unlock the device and port other OSs? Are they putting in a superboard of some sort that cannot be unlocked?
I find this hard to believe especially when you can get the unlocking tool from the Asus website. At least let's hope it's not like this, otherwise my tablet would lose some of its appeal.

No, but the problem is that after a motherboard exchange, the CPU ID doesn't match the serial number anymore. The unlock tool must contact ASUS to get the unlocking token (unique for each motherboard), and it fails if the CPU ID doesn't match in their database anymore. It simply can't get the right token anymore.
Ok....this makes a lot of sense actually. Let's see if the same thing applies to TF700. I'll keep you posted to whether I'll be able to unlock my tablet once it gets returned.

I had no issues at all unlocking. Honestly, i dont mean to sound rude, but i feel all these people having issues with unlocking simply arent paying attention to all details and are too eager to unlock.
This is what i did once i got my device:
Had JB on it but i still manually ran an OTA update. It found an update and installed successfully.
Went to the Asus website and found the apk to unlock.
Copied to my SD card and installed it. Ran the program. It did its thing.
Booted to fastboot, installed TWRP flashed ROOT.
Made a backup.
Rebooted to TWRP.
Installed CROMI ROM.
And all has been perfect
did you register youre device with asus before running the unlocker?
I think you have to provide your serial number. I can't quite remember but there are guides on here for it.
I didn't even have to update to latest firmware. I was still on ICS when I unlocked allowing me to utilize NVflash. I did however have to register the device on the Asus website first though. After registering it took a couple of days before the unlock APK would connect and do it's thing.

On CleanROM 3.2.1 now.
TO the OP: While there is always a risk of something going wrong with any device when you start modifying it, the risk can be greatly reduced by doing you homework and asking questions when you're not quite sure about something. This forum is a great place for the collective knowledge to get you there.
The only real issue I've heard of about unlocking is when the MAC address on the the tablet didn't match what was in Asus' database as discussed here. If you try to unlock, do it before the return period runs out for where you bought it and try it with a different one.

Thank you Pretorian. Is this due to new asus protections and we have very few hope, or dev just need some more time to adapt this ?

Its the former. In the 9.4.5.30 and above bootloaders, Asus locked it. Meaning when you "unlock" you are really only unlocking recovery and fastboot but the bootloader remains locked and signed with a cryptographic key. It prevents any previous Asus bootloader and any non-OEM bootloader from ever being loaded again. So far, there has been no success at circumventing (hacking) the locked bootloader and its not looking promising. There is a petition out for NVFlash asking Asus to allow wheelie to prevent bricking but I doubt if that goes anywhere.
The next best thing is @_that as you've already experienced. He is a human recovery. They have a 95+% fix rate for Transformer soft bricks here at XDA.
