Atrix 2 4G/Internet Issue - Motorola Atrix 2

So, I have a fully stock Motorola Atrix 2 running 2.3.6. Rooted but stock ROM.
Up top, it has a 4G Icon that is usually blue. However, lately it has been turning white, and my internet doesn't work. I can't get Spotify or Pandora etc to function. I have to restart the phone to get it to work.
Anyone else have this issue?

Not really. Could be a problem with your coverage?

This happens when your phone isn't synced to Google's servers, meaning when they're white, you phone isn't synced with Google, when blue, they are.

Strange... I phone is sync'd with Google, and my account is set up... I use it on my Nexus7 as well...
As for Network, I usually have 3-4 bars. I use Straight Talk.

Actually, I think you just fixed me!
I'll need a day or so to make sure that it doesn't do it again, but when I wen't in to the battery/data settings, the peak hours was set to turn off data after 30 min of no use. I changed it to always on.
Thank you thank you thank you!
(Now to keep waiting for ICS!!!)

You may not be understanding, your phone IS synced with your Google account, that is something different. But, as your phone will cycle through times of being 'synced' with Google's servers, at times, when bars are white the phone is NOT synced at that time to the servers, and when blue the phone IS synced at that time to the servers.

Yeah, that should clear things up for you...

A buddy of mine just had this same problem with his Atrix 2. As strange as it sounds the 4G will not work unless it sees and syncs with your Google account on their servers. In other words the data will not work. I think its a ROM issue not hardware at all. I'm sure another custom ROM or the new ICS will resolve this issue. I hope. The fix he did is as follows:
1. Make sure auto-sync is on.
2. Turn off data(4G)
3. Connect to a WLAN network and let your google account sync with their servers.
4. Turn on the data(4G)
5. Turn off WLAN.
At this point the 4G should turn blue. This is what he did and brought the data service back up. Yes it is a very strange problem I haven't seen with other phones and their ROMs.

I deal with this problem all the time. It's a major pain in the butt. The simplest way to force it to try to sync again, that I've found, is to use the Airplane Mode toggle to turn everything off and back on again. I do this 15-20 times a day. I sincerely hope it's a rom issue and that official ICS will fix it. I'd love to try the leak on for size, but I'm chicken after reading all the issues.

[Q] Email freezes on WiFi

I'm complete new to android....have only had the phone for a couple of weeks. Ever since I got it I have a problem with my email. Hoping someone could help....I've searched everywhere for an answer and can't find anything....if it's been covered and I missed it I'm sorry maybe someone can point me to the correct thread.
I have a Roger's RAZR HD XT925, I use it on the FIDO network....My email works perfect as long as I'm on H+ or LTE. Also works perfect on my WiFi at home and at the office. Until I go into work in the AM, it works perfect all day....then I get home around 5:30PM and I check my email and it say can't connect....First I double checked all the settings....everything was correct but still wouldn't connect. If I turn off wifi it works perfect again. As soon as I connect to wifi...it can't send or receive emails again. Everything else works perfect, browser, google play etc etc. I have 4 email accounts set up....Personal, 2 work accounts and one hotmail (for junk)....only one that works is the hotmail.
Here's the kicker....if I shut off the phone and turn it back on everything works perfect again. Until the next day, after I come home it connects to my wifi and again email goes numb....what gives??? I now know to just shut off the phone and turn it back on....but that just seems annoying....there must be something I'm missing. I already tried resetting the router settings...I even downloaded new firmware for it and restored settings to factory. I've deleted the accounts and set them back up a few times....without success....it still happens. Any ideas??? I don't think it's my wifi at home cause everything works perfect after the reboot....
Any help is much appreciated.
Ok...no one has the same problem I take it....I even brought home a different router to rule that out...still the same thing after I come home after work as soon as it connects to wifi my email doesn't work until I reboot the phone....I guess I'm gonna have to learn to live with it....maybe Hourly Jelly Bean will fox the issue.

WiFi does not reconnect (Android Issue #58230)

EDIT BELOW:
Hey y'all, I recently got a Nexus 5 and I've been having issues with WiFi reception. I've read the other threads concerning the inability to connect, but I can easily connect to a wireless router the first time.
It's when I disconnect from one specific router and try to access another one that I run into issues. It simply hangs in Connecting, and then just reverts to Saved. The only way for the phone to connect to a router is for me to reboot it, in which case it does so quickly.
I was wondering if anyone had any insight into tackling this problem, or if it's an inherent software issue. This occurs both at home and at school, where I move from building to building (switch routers), but the login credentials are the same.
Thanks!
EDIT #2: I spoke to a Google rep a second time and they decided that since my factory reset did not fix the issue, they were sending me a replacement unit. I'll update this when I get the new unit and see if it still has the WiFi issue or not.
EDIT:So this issue seems to have garnered some attention in the 4.3 release of Android, and a handful of Nexus 5 owners have already reported the same issue (myself included)
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58230
(Sorry, I can't post outside links because I'm a new user)
So if you have a similar problem, feel free to star and add your own comments.
I happened to have the same problem......not sure if this is a hardware problem or not.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Ah, I see. Well, I've narrowed the process to simply toggling the WiFi on and off, rather than having to reboot the phone. It's still occurring though.
If I manually disconnect and then reconnect to a router however, this problem doesn't seem to happen. It's only when I exit a router's range that I have to do a WiFi on and off cycle.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Oh, and I notice that the perceived signal strength drops when I try to reconnect to my router. Again, toggling the WiFi on and off allows the Nexus 5 to immediately connect to the router.
I hope this is a software issue.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Hm..Toggling wifi on and off doesn't seem to work for me...It hangs in connecting for a few seconds and then goes back to saved... I still have to turn off/on the phone before it can connect to a different wifi hotspot..
I've got the same problem: switching wifi networks, from home to work and viceversa, my N5 doesn't connect. It needs a reboot.
Ciao.
I edited my original post with a link to the AOSP issue tracker concerning this problem. I also contacted Google concerning this and they just said to do a factory reset... To no avail.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
This evening, before entering home, I switch off WiFi, then I toogled airplane mode, I toogled WiFi on, and I got connection perfectly working.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Interestingly, when first resetting the phone, I had to toggle Airplane mode in order to reconnect. However, eventually I can just toggle WiFi and it works fine. I'm not sure where the change occurred, unfortunately.
Hopefully my replacement phone doesn't exhibit this issue. Will update this, as mentioned in the initial post, when I get it. I still think it's a software problem, however, since folks that had 4.2 and updated to 4.3 suddenly experienced this issue.
So I'm starting to have this EXACT problem myself. I have a very strong signal for my home wifi and it's basically dropping to poor when I try to connect. After displaying Connecting/Saved several times, it still fails to work. I have tried rebooting it several times, toggling wifi and airplane mode, to no avail. Funny thing is, my work and home wifi have been working perfectly prior to this.
It wasn't until tonight that I started to have any problems. I moved some files through USB, just some stuff from my nexus 4, rebooted about 15 minutes later, and I couldn't get wifi after the reboot. Weird.
EDIT: I've tried a plain factory reset, didn't work. I ended up flashing the factory image, still didn't work. I'm not sure how WiFi just STOPPED working for me. Contemplating an RMA... I really hope someone comes up with something, seeing as I have a perfect screen and none of the other defects listed before.
This may be a fix!
Hey guys, so I've been keeping up with two AOSP issue trackers
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58230
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=61945
And in the second link (Issue #61945), scroll down to post #9 Ryan, and he details what he's tried in terms of doing a factory reset WITHOUT having Google automatically restore data and settings. I've documented my results trying this, and it seems (at this early stage of my testing) rather promising.
Like Ryan said, it seems like it's restoring some WiFi settings that may not play well with 4.4 (and maybe even 4.3 for those exhibiting this issue as detailed in the first link (issue #58230))
So here's what I did so that Google would not restore the WiFi settings. Unfortunately, this does mean you may have to manually reinstall your apps and re-input your data by hand.
What I did:
1. Go to Backup & reset
2. UNCHECK "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore"
3. Perform Factory reset
4. After resetting and prompted to do so, input WiFi router credentials to connect to WiFi
5. Skipped logging into existing Google account
6. Skipped making a new Google account
7. After reaching Android homescreen, I manually added my existing Google account
I have a feeling that steps 5-7 are unnecessary, but I did that just to make sure it wouldn't try to restore any of the data.
It's been working so far, but I haven't been able to test it out much since I'm a school currently and it has blanket WiFi coverage (difficult to go out of range). However, I will add that the signal seems stronger than before, AND it's more difficult to lose WiFi signal now than before. Like, nearly impossible here.
Let me know how it goes for y'all. Hope this works.
Oh, and perhaps try
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brilliapps.wifiandmorefixer
before you do the factory reset. It may or may not work (one person said it did). I haven't tried it though, but if it works, it'll save you the trouble of having to do a factory reset.

I have also seen this on my device that I just received on the 15th. The wifi seems to drop out and re-connect after a while... But, my other, older android devices do not show this issue. After reviewing the previous post about NOT restoring from google.. and creating a fresh install.. I am beginning to suspect if that was the case. I was hoping that keeping it stock and not messing around with kernels and roms was one of the best features of a nexus device. I really hope google provides an update to fix this.
So just a quick update. I didn't restore from Google on my second device and the WiFi had been fine for close to a week now.

[Q] Anyone else randomly have their data stop working?

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone's had issues with their data not working after while and require a reboot/airplane mode to work again?
I've noticed it both with Wifi and also with Mobile Data where one minute it'll work, and then suddenly I'll lose signal and need to reboot or switch on/off airplane mode a few times before it connects again.
Thanks!
Nope, haven't noticed anything like that yet. Is this happening on LTE or H/H+?
Nope. Do you have Chinese imported or International version?
Not stop, just slow...
Oneplus arrived from China and CM 11 was installed OK. For over a week everything has been fine using Virgin network in the UK.
Since yesterday though the data has been rather slow when browsing or using apps that require a connection.
When switching the data on the phone does recognise between 3g/H/H+ but when trying to load anything it is far slower than what it has been before.
I've tried clearing the cache and even clearing data but to no avail. Tried a factory reset last night and thought it was OK for a bit but today the same thing...
When using the browser pages will load but the blue loading bar at the top never moves past the first centimeter. (Doesn't move when using WiFi either though speed is finewhen using that).
Already contacted Virgin in case there were any issues but say the service is fine.
Any advice for troubleshooting or things to check would be appreciated.
Cheers

Another reset and browser OK... Haven't done any updates or or signed in to Google account or reinstalled any apps. I think a slow and steady install of what I want and syncing to see if there's a clash somewhere. Hmmm, not happy at all

I have had it where chrome wouldn't load webpages, usually it would start working again after a minute or two.
*sigh*... Thought things were fine last night but using it now its back to being slow again. No idea what's going on. Main update I had to install was Play Services. Chrome seemed a little funny so decided to roll it back at at the time things were alright but using it now its annoying. Took about 4 minutes to download a 3.5 meg file whereas it should breeze through it. I'm not expecting miracles but past experience was far better. Don't know whether there's anything I can do or just raise an issue with my original supplier.

Strange.. for me, it's been both H/H+, LTE and Wifi that have had it happen to me..
Also, it's not the Chinese version. It's the International version I got from Oneplus. Lately it's been ok, but we'll see how it goes..
APN settings ok?
Do you have your preferred network set correctly?
Personally I've noticed no difference. Its set as EE by default but manually added Virgin's own to try.
Been working quickly enough again without rhyme nor reason.

I can confirm the same happening to me... I'm on WIND Mobile in Ontario, Canada. It won't show that you lost the connection, things just stop loading... and the only way to fix it is to toggle airplane. It happens quite often, like a few times an hour. It's definitely a software issue that I'm hoping will be worked out in future updates, or maybe I'll have better luck with another ROM.

I've noticed it a few times where I'll swipe to the left (using Google launcher) and Google Now will indicate there is no internet connection even though I'm in an area with solid coverage. Usually if I swipe down a few times to refresh it will reconnect and update. Today however I had to reboot to reconnect. I have already checked my APN and it's fine. Did not have this issue even once with my Nexus 5 or my OPPO 7A I've been using. I'm going to check the CM bug log to see if it's been reported there.
I*have the same issue. Seems to happen when the 4g signal is weak and the handover to 3g does not happen. Then signal is lost instead.
I changed my APN now, but don't think it will matter... I'll give it a go. Using Franco kernel now, but is probably baseband related. Never had issues with my g2 previously on same location and APN.
In Norway BTW...reboot solve the problem temporarily
I have the same problem. My data connection will just stop at random and Facebook and Google now won't refresh, YouTube videos will suddenly stop playing, and upon hitting retry I'll get an error in both the playback screen and comments, and also the speedtest app won't finish preparing the test when I go to verify that my data connection is severed. I would have to restart in order to get data working again. I do get LTE speeds when it works, but it seems that the OPO takes longer to ramp up to those speeds compared to my Nexus 5 if that makes any sense?

Using WIFI with airplane mode, phone won't connect to Google Servers

Hi guys,
Question is in the title, because of low signal and as I don't get so many calls and SMS (Only whatsapp, skype, etc). I have been using airplane mode with Wifi enabled, everything has been working fine
The first issued apparead when I got an delayed gmail email (We know that in Android, emails comes asap), the delay was around hours! So I checked the status of the connection and the Wifi bars were orange meaning not connection to Google Servers.
As soon as I turn on airplane mode, the bars turn white.
Is that supposed to happen?
Guys can someone try? This is driving me crazy
Not a problem for me.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/xxvh0qussxjo72a/2014-07-31 13.13.54.png
I can confirm. In airplane mode the phone shows orange instead of white bars on wifi signal. There is however internet connectivity. Everything works as it should, except for google sync - it returns an error. This is what "paints" the bars orange. When you get that it means that google failed to sync one or more items from your google profile. I'd say don't worry about it, it's probably intentional.
I'm running latest slim weekly with franco kernel on top/bottom
p.s. it appears that google sync is down for the moment, nothing to do with our experiment. The last couple of days it was having problems in my area for the most of the day. it's on google's end of things, your phone is fine.

SlimKat 6.8 and FauxKernel 019u. I meant to grab a screenshot of my settings drop down to show the WiFi was white, not orange, sorry about that. But yeah, still no issues here.
Stock ROM, Airplane mode + WiFi = Google Services work okay for me.

[Q] Wifi issue ! (Lollipop 5.1)

Hi All,
I got the Lollipop 5.1 OTA 2 days ago and installed it - everything went smooth and the phone working fine...
But I noticed that if I reboot my router (or turn it off / on again) the Wifi don't reconnect unless I turn on the screen (the second I turn on the screen the wifi connect normally).
I didn't have this issue with Lollipop 5.0.1
P.S.
I know that this is happening because I have a led on my router telling me if any of my Wifi devices is connected or not. And to make sure I also entered the router settings to see if my phone is connected or not.
Anyone noticed that issue with the new lollipop 5.1 ?
Cheers,
I think that your problem is not switching off the router. The problem is when your phone goes to suspension (screen off) and then it drops the wifi off.
My Nexus 5 with 5.1 is doing the same

I've got some similar behaviour here, both when updated from 5.0, and with a fresh install from the factory images. When I arrive at a place with known WiFi, the phone only connects once I turned on the screen. After that, it stays connected until I move out of range and back again.
It's probably a matter of responsiveness/battery life. The more it polls for networks, the more battery it uses. It should connect, even with the screen off, within a few minutes.
That being said, I have my wifi set to always stay connected, and I've seen it not connected when I turned the screen on, then connect a couple seconds later. So, there's that. Curious how often it does that.

That's what I suspected. Sometimes, the waiting game works, but I've had my N5 lying on my desk – where it usually gets full WiFi bars – for about 40 minutes the other day, still it did not connect until I turned the screen on.
Edit: Just now, my phone disconnected from WiFi when the screen turned off, which leads me to believe that this is all caused by the WiFi sleep policy. Could it be that Google messed up something there?

My "research" has led me to believe this is the case.
Anything in terms of a workaround?
I came across those settings in the developer options (see screenshot), especially the "Always allow WiFi Roam Scans" looked promising. Been playing with them, but so far no luck.
Hi All,
exactly the same issues as yours guys are happening since I received the OTA 5.1 and installed it !
I Guess something messed up with this new update in regard of the wifi... as you mentioned.
If you come across a workaround or a confirmation from "Google" please share.
Cheers,
(With almost everyone nowadays having data ..it is difficult to notice such a behavior due to the fast wifi/data switching)
I have seen this happen as well. My battery graph will even show a missing area for WiFi indicating it turned itself on and off twice within a few hours and then stayed on after that.
Google just now released LMY47I, has anyone had a chance to see if that version fixes our problem? Once I'm off work (in about 8 hours), I'll give it a whirl and report back.

Could you please elaborate on that? I'm familiar with Tasker, but I can't think of a way of dealing with this, since I'm not sure what actually happens with the WiFi. The settings appear untouched.

I'm sorry, but my phone is now in the service center , and press that I do not remember specifically . The idea is that when you disable wifi, a time interval is forced to connect to a particular network . Look presence on the internet , here is full of instructions.

Google just now released LMY47I, has anyone had a chance to see if that version fixes our problem? Once I'm off work (in about 8 hours), I'll give it a whirl and report back.

Almost all of the changes on these different builds are SIM related for specific carriers.
LMY47I was only released to LGD821 devices with SIM cards from Indian and Australian carriers
Same problem here. I am slowly losing faith in Google. Get the frickin basics going guys!!!
Back to my 5.0.1 build.
I've gone back to 5.0.1, too. Pity, except for this I was pretty happy with 5.1. Maybe 5.1.1 will actually be usable.
Do you think it can be related to Issue 163350? code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=163350
I have just reported that, but I'm still trying to understand if it just happens to me or what.

I think the solution is "use vibrate mode on". Get your device to vibrate mod and test it.
I am waiting for your feedback.
