I use my phone for playing on XBOX live, but I get an error telling me that the NAT is not open. Does anyone know how to have the NAT open? I am using the "Wifi Tether" app.
THANKS!

Just came across a couple threads a while ago that seemed to have a solution to a problem similar to yours:
I have obtained open nat on XBL

Those didn't fix my problem. Any other ideas?

From what I have read try using wired tether (With a USB cable plugged into the XBOX), also this thread describes how one person was able to set the NAT type to Open http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015974.

Does anyone know if it would be possible to make an app that can allow blocked computers to access the internet by way of connecting via USB.
Does an app exist?

I didn't use it for a proxy but a few times at work I needed to unplug my network cable to use it on another computer I was setting up. In that case I just plugged my Evo in via USB and fired up USBTether. Gave me internet access in the meantime.
I need to be connected at all times to the network at work but need a proxy running to be able to go to other websites.

I'm having an issue where my wifi can't obtain an IP address from my router. I've reset both the phone and the router and it still can't connect. The password is correct. Any ideas? THanks
Edit: It goes into a loop where it tries to get an address for a while and then disconnects and then starts over
Same here. I'm rooted and get the same thing on different find including stock.
Try turning your encryption off and see if you can connect. If it connects then start working up through the encryption levels. Some devices can't handle higher level encryptions.

I'm trying to connect to open networks. So that's not the problem. hope we don't have another case of the captivate on our hands. I'm kind of in the middle right now with this phone. Possibly returning it and keeping my captivate with all its Rom flashing goodness. I know its early but this thing seems a little buggy to me and the battery isn't helping any.
I'm also having this problem. It tries to connect to the network, fails, and tries to connect again. I love this phone but I may return it and get the Attrix

Turning off the wifi encryption worked for me. Not ideal but ok for now.
Hate to sound noobish but......how do I turn off the encryption?

Log into your router and set wireless security to unsecured, then save changes
If get on wifi networks in different locations but have same SSID, it could cause connectivity issues (e.g., wifi SSID at my gym is "linksys", same as one of my neighbor's. My Inspire attempts to connect continuously without success to my neighbor's encrypted wifi after I've been at the gym which is an open wifi.)

Could you please fill me in on what you did to accomplish this. I am having the same exact issue it goes into a loop of trying to "obtain ip address" then disconnecting.
I have a stock inspire 4g, sig is outdated. Router was using wpa/wpa2 however i have switched through all the other available security settings (wep, no security) and the same issue persists.
Ok so now i went to the advanced settings and checked the DLNA auto-IP box, this allowed the phone to connect to the network however it still will not pull up any websites through the browser.
Been having the same problem here i can connect to my network but it times out trying to obtain an IP address disconnects and tries again. Any suggestions would be great because i can't seem to find an answer anywhere. My inspire is stock by the way never been rooted or anything
Is your router on IPv6? Needs to be on IPv4.
For those having problems with WiFi...
Change security to WEP
Put wireless router on channel 11
Try these settings first!

Still can't get it to obtain an IP address, however I got it to work by setting up a static IP address on the inspire. I would really like to get to the bottom of this problem though.
You might be having an IP conflict.. does your router allow you to assign IP per a connected device MAC address?
It basically holds a certain IP for a certain MAC address

Hmmm not sure I'll have to look into that. Havent tried to connect to any other networks yet guess that could help a bit
Have u updated the firmware on your network gear? What is your setup by the way?

Ok, tried to use a laptop today on my network and it had the same issue so I reset the whole system (i have at&t uverse) and that fixed it. Don't know why I didnt do that from that start but after I did my inspire connected first time with no problems.
I had a problem with my wireless router and my Verizon router using the same DNS gateways. I checked to see what my DLink routers DNS server/default gateway was using the commands in the run when you hit cmd+r on my PC. I then had to manually assign my phone to a static IP in wifi settings>advanced.
Example;
IP.(phone) 192.168.1.197
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.1.1
For some reason my phone was automatically reading 192.168.0.1 on the DNS and gateway.

Start-up barnacle and i get this error message:
NAT: Could not set MTU of pdpbr1: Invalid Argument. I also get an WIFI: error too but that happens occasionally.
The good thing is i do get an Open NAT on XBL when i tether through my PC, but i would still like to resolve these error messages. If anybody has a solution for this please help me.
Have changed my MTU value on my PC. Also tried to change it on my Charge through Term Emulator but dont know if it worked.
Did this command in in Term Emulator:
cd /sys/class/net
ls
(connections pop-up)
cd pdpbr1
ls
(shows list of stuff for connection including mtu)
mtu=1500
ip link list
(whole bunch of stuff pops up but dont know what to look for)
Just use WiFi Tether. Much better than Barnacle or Open Garden.

Xbox live runs fine on any NAT. My home connection is moderate (strangely changes when under load to strict) and I connect fine to parties, games, etc.

Xbox live and games done run the same on any nat type. there is a huge difference between open, mod and strict. may you just dont realize it since your used to having a mod nat type (home connect you said was mod nat).
My home connection nat type is open. Everybody on my friends list can connect to me if i host chat parties or if in game im host of game parties. Only game lag i get is when game host lags.
Tethering with a mod nat type is a lot different. there are a lot of ppl that i cant connect to or they cant connect to me. we have to have somebody else host party and use them as a mediator. Also, i get random boots from game (lag out of game not xbl...well most the time). when it works good its great though.
So, you can use a mod nat type with xbl and with games like call of duty but there is a huge difference in the exp. with a mod nat type compared to an open one.
I would love to figure a way to get my mod nat type while tethering changed to open. i just dont know how.

is there a way to get it an open nat type without having to connect it to my pc? I have a new 250g slim that my wife just bought the other day. So when i was fooling around and testing out wifi tethering i just directly tethered xbox to phone. But i get a moderate nat type.

Does anyone know how to get Netflix to work in Canada? After the recent update the app keeps saying "your device needs to be updated to instantly stream videos" before the update it said it couldn't stream because of my region... someone please help..
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
There's plenty of thread that shows how to get NF working in Canada.
Use a US IP. you need to log in the first time using a Vpn from the US.
you can use one of those site that let you try before you buy. After you successfully log in and maybe even watch a little you can use your regular wifi
It's pretty simple, luckily.
1. Install the latest netflix app using market enabler or find the apk.
2. Do NOT sign in yet.
3. Set up a VPN connection under your device wireless settings. (I've used "VPN Reactor" and "Best Free VPN" and they both work). Start the VPN connection.
4. Open the app and sign in. Pick a movie and start to play it for a few seconds.
5. Then you can stop the video, disconnect the vpn, and netflix should work fine now without having to use a vpn.
Hope this helps! For some reason this works fine on my TF but wouldn't work on my Nexus S. Not sure why.
Thank you do much guys got it up and working! Your awesome!

I followed this and signed with VPN reactor but everytime I sign in on my tablet I get an error saying Server hung up and that my username and password is incorrect....even though I have double checked it and it is the correct un and pswd. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?
Thanks
Forgive my ignorance, but do you set up the VPN on the tablet itself? When you say "set up a VPN on your wireless device" are you meaning on the tablet, another computer (like a laptop or desktop) or the router itself?
I may be completely wrong here, (I've never used a VPN in my life) but as I understand it, I'm supposed to set up a VPN on my computer, then log into that VPN using the VPN app on my transformer, and connect remotely to get netflix to work?
Thanks in advance for clarification!

Just add a vpn connection under "Wireless & Networks" on your transformer.

The original thread
i made an app with tasker app factory that enables ethernet
i looked every where xda/google and did not find any thing.
so i made one i hope you all like it, this is the first app i made so it may have bugs.
it should work on most if not all phone/tablets that are android 4.x.x up
this app uses:
svc wifi disable
svc wifi enable
svc data disable
svc data enable
#!/system/bin/sh
busybox ifconfig eth0 up
dhcpcd eth0
for this app to work for you you need:
otg cable
usb ethernet adapter
busybox and
root.
root is for
svc wifi disable
svc wifi enable
svc data disable
svc data enable
busybox ifconfig eth0 up
dhcpcd eth0
and see what the app dose in superSU logs
i hope you all like it
............................INJOY!.............................
Bugs you tell me.
feel free to share this to anyone
just spread the word
..........................EXTRAS.............................
If you want an app that needs wifi
And you want it to run on ethernet
Go here
This is the USB Ethernet adapter that I use
with my nexus 7 and note 3
Working on:
doesn't really matter it's up to your device's kernel
You can also get the app from Google play
superSU is needed for this app
That's crazy. Not downplaying, but why don't you use the usb tether option? I'm up for a trial though
Is is not to tether internet from your phone to computer.
This is for to get internet from a ethernet cable from router to phone.
I hope this cleared up all the confusion you may have had.
Very good idea, think i have a usb 100mbs ethernet adapter something, i shall give this a try.

I will try that.
No. if an app checks wifi state then no.
That happens on my nexus7 too and it has the driver for Ethernet in the Kernel.
So I don't know how to fix that.
I have been looking around for a way to falsify Wifi state but with no luck.
