Barnacle Tether - Verizon Droid Charge

Start-up barnacle and i get this error message:
NAT: Could not set MTU of pdpbr1: Invalid Argument. I also get an WIFI: error too but that happens occasionally.
The good thing is i do get an Open NAT on XBL when i tether through my PC, but i would still like to resolve these error messages. If anybody has a solution for this please help me.
Have changed my MTU value on my PC. Also tried to change it on my Charge through Term Emulator but dont know if it worked.
Did this command in in Term Emulator:
cd /sys/class/net
ls
(connections pop-up)
cd pdpbr1
ls
(shows list of stuff for connection including mtu)
mtu=1500
ip link list
(whole bunch of stuff pops up but dont know what to look for)

Just use WiFi Tether. Much better than Barnacle or Open Garden.

I use both both but was trying to explore the open nat error on xbox live and barnacle is the only one that will do that.

i use wifi tether and have tried using it to connect to xbl but i get a mod nat type every time. is there a way to make it an open nat type.

Xbox live runs fine on any NAT. My home connection is moderate (strangely changes when under load to strict) and I connect fine to parties, games, etc.

Xbox live and games done run the same on any nat type. there is a huge difference between open, mod and strict. may you just dont realize it since your used to having a mod nat type (home connect you said was mod nat).
My home connection nat type is open. Everybody on my friends list can connect to me if i host chat parties or if in game im host of game parties. Only game lag i get is when game host lags.
Tethering with a mod nat type is a lot different. there are a lot of ppl that i cant connect to or they cant connect to me. we have to have somebody else host party and use them as a mediator. Also, i get random boots from game (lag out of game not xbl...well most the time). when it works good its great though.
So, you can use a mod nat type with xbl and with games like call of duty but there is a huge difference in the exp. with a mod nat type compared to an open one.
I would love to figure a way to get my mod nat type while tethering changed to open. i just dont know how.

well i got mine open just wanted to fix this error message.
1 Barnacle wifi to PC
2 Enable ICS to LAN
3 Crossover Cable from PC to XBOX
4 D L this link from post http://forums.androidcentral.com/at...d1312402006-tether-fix-sortof-mtuchangers.zip
5 Open up zip with winrar and use the first setting then hit enter on Command Prompt

is there a way to get it an open nat type without having to connect it to my pc? I have a new 250g slim that my wife just bought the other day. So when i was fooling around and testing out wifi tethering i just directly tethered xbox to phone. But i get a moderate nat type.

Ya I also have the 250gb slim and if I tether directly to the box I get a mod NAT, but the only way I get an open NAT is through the PC after I changed my MTU size.

Xbox 360 Bridged?

Ok, I have bridged a connection from my laptop (xp pro) to my Xbox 360 with a crossover cable. I have my ppc 6800 mogul tethered to the laptop to provide the internet with ICS. Here is my problem... When I test everything out, I get a NAT setting of "moderate". I need to get the NAT settings "open" in order for it to work correctly. I have played like this for the past couple of days, but I have to have one of my friends invite me anytime that I want to play.
Do you think that it is my phone is the problem, or the laptop? I wish I could just get cable or dsl, but it's not available in my area.
Any help welcome!
Thanks!
Honestly I'm shocked you are trying to do this at all. All the XBOX people I know won't even use a router because of lag.
yeah i don't think using the internet connection from your cell phone could be expected to fully support the bandwidth required to run xbox live...

Microsoft requires 256 down and 64 up. I have supplied 1.5 down and 144 up. The only thing that I seem to be having a problem with is a little bit of lag (150 to 250ms). My real issue is the ability to connect to others to join in a session. That is where my NAT settings come into play. If you have a moderate or strict setting, it is almost impossible to join in.
that's pretty near... i would have never thought it could support it... awesome
dont understand what you mean only because i dont have a 360 but i have done this before.
Just replace the ps2 for 360 and the wifi connection for the cell connection. Not saying it will help but maybe something will. it may have things that you didn't do.
http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/118/62/
This won't work.
ATT and most providers data networks uses NAT.
This means your phone gets an address like 10.0.42.123 in ATT's cellular network -- and has a public IP of e.g. 64.2.3.2.
Obviously this is NAT -- and it of course is not in a DMZ, nor does it have port forwarding for XBOX live to your cell's IP.
From wikipedia:
In computer networking, Network Address Translation (NAT, also known as Network Masquerading, Native Address Translation or IP Masquerading) is a technique of transceiving network traffic through a router that involves re-writing the source and/or destination IP addresses and usually also the TCP/UDP port numbers of IP packets as they pass through.

Drawbacks
Hosts behind NAT-enabled routers do not have true end-to-end connectivity and cannot participate in some Internet protocols. Services that require the initiation of TCP connections from the outside network, or stateless protocols such as those using UDP, can be disrupted. Unless the NAT router makes a specific effort to support such protocols, incoming packets cannot reach their destination. Some protocols can accommodate one instance of NAT between participating hosts ("passive mode" FTP, for example), sometimes with the assistance of an Application Layer Gateway (see below), but fail when both systems are separated from the Internet by NAT.

You can call your provider and ask them to open port forwarding, but they won't know what you're talking about -- and since they give DHCP leases the port forward rules would only be temporary anyways. Besides, that would cause serious issues for everyone on their network if they forwarded a port for you. (E.G. Any inbound port request would go to you, disrupting service for other customers.)
I doubt gameplay would be usable over 3G or EVDO anyways.

Open NAT for tethering xbox

I need some help, as I'm kinda clueless with networking. I have an Ubuntu desktop connected to the same monitor my 360 is. I can connect to xbl a few different ways.
1. With the d-link wireless gaming adapter, set to adhoc mode, connected to my wifi tether.
2. USB/wifi tethering the desktop to my phone and sharing the internet connection with the Ethernet port where my Xbox is plugged in.
I've used, wifi tether for root users, barnacle (which supposedly allows port forwarding), built in USB and wifi tether (I'm on cm7 nightly with an HTC glacier)
I've managed to connect, but NAT is set to strict on all. Does anybody know how to change this? I don't know if there's a way to change this within the build.prop, or some other file?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I just have no other internet connection.

The lack of response really blows. I have the same exact issue and I cant fathom there not being a way around it . I'll keep looking and please let me know if you stumble upon something that works
The "nat type strict" we see on xbox live, from reading around allot deals with the bandwidth(speed) of your internet. If you use fast wifi, your nat type will be ok, but if someone goes on your wifi an use the internet, it's slower. The internet speeds we get from the cell towers is no where fast enough to change it.
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.

Question 2: why can't I connect to my NAS via my wireless LAN?

My new T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G will not connect to the WD-NetCenter on my home LAN.
I've tried 4 apps: ES File Explorer (which worked fine on my husband's cheap e-reader, although it's a slightly earlier version), Total Commander with the LAN plug-in, X-Plore File Manager, and File Manager by Rhythm. None of them can connect to my NetCenter.
I've tried scanning on all of them and none of them see anything at all on my LAN. Scanning works fine with ESFE from hubby's ereader. I've tried setting them up by hand, but even if they allow me to put in the info and make an icon, they still can't find any data if I try to connect. I figure that, since ESFE works on another device in our system and 4 different apps won't set up on this phone, it must be the phone.
WiFi is on, as that's how I connect to the net — haven't paid for a data plan. There are no user names or passwords for the NetCenter.
I'm not knowledgeable about networks and protocols, so here I am. What do I need to check to see how to connect to my NetCenter? Or is there a bug in this hardware or this version of Android that is in my way?
Since android is Linux based you need to make sure that your nas is capable of using samba to share. Your nas is probably reconfigured to use windows sharing.
Sent from my one horned SGS4G
Samba is "Windows sharing" for non_windows platforms.
I'd first check that you are properly connected to the same network as your NAS with your wireless.
If your ROM doesn't have it, I would install Terminal Emulator
Once you have started it (you don't need root, as I recall), type "ifconfig" after the $ prompt, then a return
Code:
$ ifconfig
Should give you your IP address, probably up near the top of the output. For me, I see eth0 as the first interface described and the second line starts with inet addr:192.168.mmm.nnn -- that tells me I'm on subnet 192.168.mmm -- that should be the same as your NAS. Yours might be also be something like 10.0.mmm.nnn -- as long as both your phone and your NAS have the first three of the four numbers between the dots matching, you're OK.
Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 50:e5:49:54:e6:f3
inet addr:192.168.16.17 Bcast:192.168.16.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
[...]
If you are on the same subnet, then, if the address of your NAS is 192.168.mmm.NNN, try
Code:
$ ping 192.168.mmm.NNN
You can stop the output by holding the volume-down toggle on the left of your phone while you type the letter "c" on the phone's keyboard.
If you see lines like
Code:
PING 192.168.16.1 (192.168.16.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 192.168.16.1: icmp_req=1 ttl=64 time=0.260 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.16.1: icmp_req=2 ttl=64 time=0.129 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.16.1: icmp_req=3 ttl=64 time=0.177 ms
as long as the "icmp_req=" numbers don't miss many, your phone is reaching the NAS. 1 in 10 is probably OK, much more than that you have some network issues.
If your phone is reaching your NAS, they you probably should ask for support from your phone application and/or the NAS.
If the NAS is wireless to the WiFi access point, then another possibility is that you have "client protection" or the like enabled on your wireless access point. This prevents one wireless client from "talking" with another. Can other wireless devices access the NAS?
Sorry, candler33w, but your reply makes no sense to me since, as I said, our other Android device connects to the NAS just fine, and I know I made no changes to the NAS or the device for that to happen. ???
jeffsf, I picked up Terminal Emulator, thanks. It's like going back to the DOS command line; ah, those were the days. I'm reading the Wiki, but assimilation will take me some time.
$ ifconfig returned nothing at all.
Am I perhaps not in the right directory to access that command?
$ echo $PATH returned this: /data/local/bin:/sbin:/vendor/bin:/system/sbin:/system/bin:/system/xbin
and $ ls gave me a list of commands(?) that did included config, but not ifconfig.
Any assistance here will be appreciated. I know just enough to get myself in trouble if I'm not real careful here, and since I got this thing 2 days ago, I don't really want to brick it from carelessness.
Thanks.
Thank you, Gentlemen, for taking pity on a poor fool who can't keep track of her own networks.
jeffsf, my apologies for wasting so much of your time on that detailed answer to a problem that really didn't exist.
My router puts out two networks, a primary using WPA2 and the guest using WEP which has a much easier password. Thoughtlessly, I had logged my phone into the guest, not thinking that guest only has web access and no ability to get to my PCs or NAS.
Well, as I stated, I'm not that great on networks.
If this gray-matter deterioration continues apace, I'm going to have to move closer to the grandkids to have them maintain my systems for me. Bummer.
Not that great at networks with two ssid's broadcasting on the same router Hahahaha. Made my morning.
Well shoot! The stock ROM apparently doesn't have the ifstat command.
I use WiFi Widget and find the 2x1 widget shows information in a compact way. It will give you your IP address.
I found Fing on "Play" that seems like it might be helpful. I haven't used it nor heard of it before today.
Nice widget, FB. Thanks.
As for the second network, it's for the kids when they come loaded with their "stuff." The smarter ones leave that at home and just log in on one of our desktops, but some seem to be tethered to their laptops. Not hard to set up.

PS4 Remote Play Solutions?

I am trying to get the PS4 Remote Play ap / feature to work better. I have changed my PS4 to DMZplus mode so that it shows nat type 1 / open. I changed the wireless channel from 2 to 9 to clear up any possible congestion there. One interesting thing I noticed on the settings menu of the ap, is you can check the nat type presumably of the phone, because my phone shows nat type 3 in that settings menu, but I show nat type 1 on the actual ps4 network settings and connection test.
Anyway this is super frustrating and completely disapointing. I feel so dumb. I changed wireless providers from AT&T to T-Mobile basically for this phone and the PS4 remote play integration, and myself and many others cant get it to work reliably like it does on PS Vita.
I am using AT&T Uverse for my home network, with a Pace 5031NV gateway from AT&T.
Anyone have any magic tricks to get PS4 Remote Play to work stable as advertized?

Try channel 6 for wireless. It's better. Not sure about the rest though as I haven't tried remote play yet :good:
Cool, I will try that. What is different about wireless channel 6 though ?
I get pretty damn good remote play on my device/network here are my tips. (some people may argue that some of these are "irrelevant" but if your getting bad experiences, they are worth a shot?)
1. Plug your PS4 in to the router via Ethernet this improved my remote play buy a TON it went from barely playable to working perfectly. In all honesty the PS4 was shipped with such a crappy WiFi card , google "PS4 Wifi card" and the top results are all post about how they suck.
2. This one im not 100% sure about, however i know that my Download speeds on the connection test improve ALOT when I do this.
Dont connect using "easy connect" and for your DNS use a google dns like 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4. I went from download speeds of 5gigs down to 30+
However, Im pretty sure if your on the same network, the speed of your internet doesn't matter so if you have a good router you should be set to go. If you only have been trying it with your PS4 on wifi. Plug it in, I promise you will notice!
If your playing from outside the network, well you need a pretty decent upload speed on what your ps4 is hooked up to. You most likely will not have a good experience from a mobile network. I have FIOS at home and I play from my office which has a Wireless AC connection and FIOS and I can remote play like a dream but when I go to my friends house who has XFINITY and some ISP provided netgear router, the experience is less optimal, still playable to an extent but not nearly as smooth.
sorry for the wall of text! Hope this helps.

Having an open nat/port forwarding over hotspot?

Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible to have an open nat type or port forward over wifi hotspot/usb tethering? When I try playing Rainbow Six Siege (I'm on PC) it tells me I have a strict NAT Type (Type 1). I don't know if port forwarding and Nat type have anything to do with each other. Nat type determines how your device talks to others and port forwarding is for hosting games? any help would be appreciated, thanks.

You may want to try wifi tether router from the playstore, I purchased it awhile back and remember a lot of extra features within the app, might be exactly what your looking for.

I have tried it with no luck. I followed someones tutorial on how to make it have an open NAT. It didn't work, thanks for the suggestion though.
It may be a pain carrying and extra device, but you could achieve this with a TL-WR802N nano router. Grab an external battery pack and you'll be good to go. It supports WISP.
I use one at home to switch between tether and wired connections easily. I used it mainly for my Karma Go, but after they reneged on how they were marketing I use it for the phone. My boss even emailed Karma asking if it was ok to hook up a router and their response was that they didn't have a way yet, but if he figures it out let them know.
I am also having the same issue trying to play rainbow six seige on PC with my s5 (rooted) over hot spot. Cannot seem to get an open NAT
I have tried a few rooted apps, including wifi tether router (this app even had a DMZ zone option, but no luck)
I have an app that allows port forwarding, but I do not understand the difference between source and destination ports.
I believe this could be achieved if I port forward the correct ports, but I'm currently stuck. Maybe someone here can help me with the port forwarding.

How does this work? Do you connect it to your Hotspot as a range extender and then connect your devices to the extender? I'm trying to get my NAT to change from Strict to Open.
