PS4 Remote Play Solutions? - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to get the PS4 Remote Play ap / feature to work better. I have changed my PS4 to DMZplus mode so that it shows nat type 1 / open. I changed the wireless channel from 2 to 9 to clear up any possible congestion there. One interesting thing I noticed on the settings menu of the ap, is you can check the nat type presumably of the phone, because my phone shows nat type 3 in that settings menu, but I show nat type 1 on the actual ps4 network settings and connection test.
Anyway this is super frustrating and completely disapointing. I feel so dumb. I changed wireless providers from AT&T to T-Mobile basically for this phone and the PS4 remote play integration, and myself and many others cant get it to work reliably like it does on PS Vita.
I am using AT&T Uverse for my home network, with a Pace 5031NV gateway from AT&T.
Anyone have any magic tricks to get PS4 Remote Play to work stable as advertized?

Try channel 6 for wireless. It's better. Not sure about the rest though as I haven't tried remote play yet :good:

Cool, I will try that. What is different about wireless channel 6 though ?

I get pretty damn good remote play on my device/network here are my tips. (some people may argue that some of these are "irrelevant" but if your getting bad experiences, they are worth a shot?)
1. Plug your PS4 in to the router via Ethernet this improved my remote play buy a TON it went from barely playable to working perfectly. In all honesty the PS4 was shipped with such a crappy WiFi card , google "PS4 Wifi card" and the top results are all post about how they suck.
2. This one im not 100% sure about, however i know that my Download speeds on the connection test improve ALOT when I do this.
Dont connect using "easy connect" and for your DNS use a google dns like 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4. I went from download speeds of 5gigs down to 30+
However, Im pretty sure if your on the same network, the speed of your internet doesn't matter so if you have a good router you should be set to go. If you only have been trying it with your PS4 on wifi. Plug it in, I promise you will notice!
If your playing from outside the network, well you need a pretty decent upload speed on what your ps4 is hooked up to. You most likely will not have a good experience from a mobile network. I have FIOS at home and I play from my office which has a Wireless AC connection and FIOS and I can remote play like a dream but when I go to my friends house who has XFINITY and some ISP provided netgear router, the experience is less optimal, still playable to an extent but not nearly as smooth.
sorry for the wall of text! Hope this helps.

Xbox 360 Bridged?

Ok, I have bridged a connection from my laptop (xp pro) to my Xbox 360 with a crossover cable. I have my ppc 6800 mogul tethered to the laptop to provide the internet with ICS. Here is my problem... When I test everything out, I get a NAT setting of "moderate". I need to get the NAT settings "open" in order for it to work correctly. I have played like this for the past couple of days, but I have to have one of my friends invite me anytime that I want to play.
Do you think that it is my phone is the problem, or the laptop? I wish I could just get cable or dsl, but it's not available in my area.
Any help welcome!
Thanks!
Honestly I'm shocked you are trying to do this at all. All the XBOX people I know won't even use a router because of lag.
yeah i don't think using the internet connection from your cell phone could be expected to fully support the bandwidth required to run xbox live...

Microsoft requires 256 down and 64 up. I have supplied 1.5 down and 144 up. The only thing that I seem to be having a problem with is a little bit of lag (150 to 250ms). My real issue is the ability to connect to others to join in a session. That is where my NAT settings come into play. If you have a moderate or strict setting, it is almost impossible to join in.
that's pretty near... i would have never thought it could support it... awesome
dont understand what you mean only because i dont have a 360 but i have done this before.
Just replace the ps2 for 360 and the wifi connection for the cell connection. Not saying it will help but maybe something will. it may have things that you didn't do.

This won't work.
ATT and most providers data networks uses NAT.
This means your phone gets an address like 10.0.42.123 in ATT's cellular network -- and has a public IP of e.g. 64.2.3.2.
Obviously this is NAT -- and it of course is not in a DMZ, nor does it have port forwarding for XBOX live to your cell's IP.
From wikipedia:
In computer networking, Network Address Translation (NAT, also known as Network Masquerading, Native Address Translation or IP Masquerading) is a technique of transceiving network traffic through a router that involves re-writing the source and/or destination IP addresses and usually also the TCP/UDP port numbers of IP packets as they pass through.

Drawbacks
Hosts behind NAT-enabled routers do not have true end-to-end connectivity and cannot participate in some Internet protocols. Services that require the initiation of TCP connections from the outside network, or stateless protocols such as those using UDP, can be disrupted. Unless the NAT router makes a specific effort to support such protocols, incoming packets cannot reach their destination. Some protocols can accommodate one instance of NAT between participating hosts ("passive mode" FTP, for example), sometimes with the assistance of an Application Layer Gateway (see below), but fail when both systems are separated from the Internet by NAT.

You can call your provider and ask them to open port forwarding, but they won't know what you're talking about -- and since they give DHCP leases the port forward rules would only be temporary anyways. Besides, that would cause serious issues for everyone on their network if they forwarded a port for you. (E.G. Any inbound port request would go to you, disrupting service for other customers.)
I doubt gameplay would be usable over 3G or EVDO anyways.
DUDE! i have been tryin 360+Mogul
i have been tryin and tryin... took my 360 apart tryin some mods. still... ONLY can connect my Xbox 360... to my laptop... which is connected online by my mogul Via WifiRouter-3g to-Usb. How do I change my TP's MTU?

I've finally got my Xbox 360 all set up to connect to the internet with my TP through my computer, but I did a test on the Xbox and it said that it connected to the internet but not Xbox Live because my MTU must be at least 1364. I'm guessing that the phone's MTU is less than that, so how do I change it? Thanks in advance.
XBOX needs to be nerf'd
Since I'm assuming your trying to use the TP as the internet connection. You need to change the xbox. The live feature is designed for broadband and your TP really isn't able to get the throughput that Live demands. If there is an option to choose a lower speed requirement on the xbox you might succeed. But I'm not aware of such an option on any gaming system that desires a broadband connection.

[Q] HTC Inspire 4G to play Xbox 360

Well has the title says, I connected my Android phone to my xbox 360, but the question is whats your experience, doing this. Do you get lags, cause sometimes, I do. Can you connect to party mode or invite people to game match, cause i can only do this with specific people, (I guess because of their internet speed), and is there any hints of getting better online play experince.
I dont have answer to your ? but, how do you connect your phone to the xbox360 and can you use your phone like a controller IE: to move through the menu?
I connected my laptop to my HTC inspire by using its WiFi Hotspot, then afterwards I connect my xbox 360 to my laptop by using Ethernet Cable, and to set it up, go to "Control Panel" > "Network and Internet" > "Network and Sharing Center" > "Manage Network Connections" and when your there, highlight both connection icons (One most likely be called "local Area Connection") thats represents your Xbox 360, and (other is Wireless Network Connection") that represents your HTC internet. When both are highlighted right click and choose the Bridge Connections. When that is complete go into your xbox and test your connection and your done.
And the phone controller, im not fully sure what you mean?
i really cant imagine xbox live would be anything more than crappy using a tethered internet connection from your mobile phone. perhaps im wrong but id use a more reliable internet connection.

I seen some where on here that some user were able to use their phone to control the wii but not sure which phone, but What I was thinking was using my phone to move through the dash board of xbox rather then using the controller

you can connect a wii remote to your android phone to play your nes, snes, gba, n64 and etc, (You can find it had a app from the market) But it didnt work with my phone.
Using it has a remote to scroll around your xbox, is not posssible or maybe for now.

My experience was, for the most part, laggy. But there were definitely times when I could play online lag-free. I've had entire sessions (more than a couple of hours) where it was entirely smooth as if I was on a traditional router.
As for improved online play experience, that solely depends on speeds. As your data speeds increase, so will your online play experience.

I do this on a daily basis. I don't have to much trouble with it. I do have Moderate NAT and sometimes I hit huge lag spikes and get lagged out of the game. But it works okay for the most part.

Xbox live strict nat

Anyone here been able to use native hotspot successfully with xbox live. Im getting strict nat tpe and cant sign in.
Ive looked all over for the past few hours and everything im finding is old stuff and ive tried a few things but no go.
I have a strong data connection but nat type is strict and it tells me mtu error. When i check advanced diagnostic the xbox shows a 1240 mtu i think it was so it seems i need to bump it up to 1500 but how is the question

ive ran my xbox off my hotspot the last few years, as i travel for work all the time. it always seems that some games work, some dont. the best way to get most games to work is to open your security on your hotspot, but then you have people hijacking your wifi all the time. even if xbox says your wifi is strict, alot of games will still go through. its just a matter of trial and error truthfully with each individual game.. When i was on my s5, s4 and s3, ive been able to get more games to work with me, but without the ability to change the aspects of the wifi hotspot through buildprop and systems files (which i dont like to change too much when there is no recovery available lol), as well as unlocking the ##3282# codes (i hate calling sprint for $#!* like that), theres not too many games being able to run at the moment. sorry for the long post but like i said trial and error man

Yea my thing is i cant even get xbox to connect to live internet works great. When trying to connect to live is when i get the mtu error so i haven't been able to set up my account, maybe Microsoft changed some requirements on the one vs 360

very much so when i got the xbox 1 it took me forever to figure a lot of stuff out haha. internet and stuff like youtube always work fine for me. ive had success with the ethernet crossover cable method as well as the usb method(im sure youve found those on google). its best to have a computer to rerout stuff to the xbox, but its worked sometimes and not with the xbox 1 with these methods, hit or miss until you reboot everthing a few times and it finally works. best method to me is the ethernet crossover, trust me if you run everything oof your phone/computer its worth the $20 investment or whatever it cost now

I have get a strict nat with my xbox one when tethering with my m8 but games see to work just fine. Occasionally I will have issues where a friend or two can't hear me in multiplayer but setting up a private chat works fine. Right now I have the m9 and the edge but I haven't tried it yet to see how it will work.

Weird indeed it wont even let me sign in says to check my connection. When i go to check multiplayer connection is when it tells me i have a problem with the mtu.
Last night i tethered to the laptop and shared my connection with my nic card and ran a crossover cable to the xbox and that still didnt work.
Well i bit the bullet and am having cable internet installed today, otherwise my xbox was pointless. Getting a 100mbps connection for 55/mo
The only thing i can think of is the mtu from band 41 that i get at my house must not be sufficient. I wonder if band 25 or 26 works better but i cant get those to connect over 41 to test

Come to think of it, every time I have tethered to the xbox I was in a band 25 only market.

[GUIDE][NO ROOT] How to use tethering for home network

Hello everyone! Here's a nice little guide on how to tether your phone and use that ability to power a home internet network. I have done tons of trial and error to get this working with bits and pieces from numerous forums and google research. This has been working flawlessly for me and it's a "set it and forget it solution".
The reason why I wanted to do this is because I live in a rural area with no high speed ISP. My only option was to use a data capped satellite ISP that is extremely limited in ability and expensive. Without further ado my guide to achieve an unlimited, data cap free, tethered home network.
What you need:
Android phone you're willing to dedicate for full time use
Computer with windows and LAN port you're willing to dedicate for full time use
Wireless Router
A nice USB cord for your phone
A nice CAT cable
1) First thing to do is look around for an unlimited data (4glte preferred, no tethering plan needed) cellular plan. I know there are a few out there but I decided on MetroPCS due to the coverage I get and the price ($60 a month, no contract). I opted for just a sim card as I had an android phone laying around.
2) Make sure your android is unlocked if it's not on the same network you are trying to use. My phone was tied to AT&T and I had to call them to unlock it. Most carrier will do this if the phone in good standing. Meaning paid off. Or root it.
3) We will need to find out where your equipment will sit to receive the best speeds. I recommend putting your phone in "field test mode" and walk around the house. The lower number the better. I also ran a speed test in certain locations to give me a rough idea of what speeds I would be getting. If you are really serious about this set up there is equipment out there to boost cell signal in your house. I like WeBoost.
4) Download your tethering application. I have tried multiple apps but only one worked perfectly but with different hardware you might have other results. Clockworkmod Tether ($4.99) and PDAnet+ ($7.95) worked alright but I had issues with it talking to my router and clients so disconnects where frequent and frustrating. I ultimately went for EasyTether ($9.99) and it has been working fantastic. Mind you when using Clockwork and PDAnet I would be getting a DL speed of 6Mbs when my phone was 13Mbs. I don't know what would cause that but with EasyTether I am getting speeds very similar to my phone with no speed loss.
5) All three tethering applications require you to install a sister program on your computer to work. So install that on your "slave" machine. They are all about the same process, install an .exe and drivers for your phone.
6) Test that everything is working. The tethering application will have instructions on how to USB tether your phone. We need to check that it will give your slave machine an internet connection. Simply open a web browser and see if it is working.
7) Great! Now your are connected and able to surf the web! But wouldn't it be great if you could use this on all your devices? This is where the router comes in play.
8) Now I don't know what router you are using but mine is an ASUS RT-N56U and the principle should be the same. Plug your router into power and reset it with the button on the back (10 seconds). Unplug from power. Connect the CAT cable to the WAN port of the router (the one that usually connects a modem to the router) and the other end to the LAN port of your slave machine. Plug power to the router and allow it to boot up. Now on your slave machine go to Network and Sharing Center, View status on the tether connection, properties, sharing, check Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection, select the Home networking connection as the router. With everything done correctly you should be getting an internet connection to the router.
9) Now this is all fine and dandy but there are some settings in the router you can configure to make it more reliable. Our cases could be different but this is what has worked for me. I'm no networking genius by any means so my setting could not mean anything. In my experience things would work for a few mins but streaming to chromecast or connecting a mac to wireless mysteriously cut all connection. So here are my settings.
Disable MAC Filter
Disable Wireless Scheduler
Enable IGMP Snooping
Enable DHCP Server
Disable DHCP Routes
Disable Multicast routing (IGMP Proxy)
WAN Connection Type-Automatic IP
Enable UPnP
Connect to DNS Server automatically-NO
DNS Server1 8.8.8.8
DNS Server2 8.8.4.4
Everything else is default
I don't know about the NAT for all you gamers out there but I am sure there is some router configuration you can do. If anyone has ideas on how to achieve this please chime in.
10) Congratulations! You have now set up a home network with your phone and can use it like any other ISP. If you experience any issue with this process let me know and I will get back to you with an answer. I have had to do a lot of trouble shooting to get to this point.
