I'm having an issue where my wifi can't obtain an IP address from my router. I've reset both the phone and the router and it still can't connect. The password is correct. Any ideas? THanks
Edit: It goes into a loop where it tries to get an address for a while and then disconnects and then starts over
Same here. I'm rooted and get the same thing on different find including stock.
Try turning your encryption off and see if you can connect. If it connects then start working up through the encryption levels. Some devices can't handle higher level encryptions.

I'm trying to connect to open networks. So that's not the problem. hope we don't have another case of the captivate on our hands. I'm kind of in the middle right now with this phone. Possibly returning it and keeping my captivate with all its Rom flashing goodness. I know its early but this thing seems a little buggy to me and the battery isn't helping any.
I'm also having this problem. It tries to connect to the network, fails, and tries to connect again. I love this phone but I may return it and get the Attrix

Turning off the wifi encryption worked for me. Not ideal but ok for now.
Hate to sound noobish but......how do I turn off the encryption?

Log into your router and set wireless security to unsecured, then save changes
If get on wifi networks in different locations but have same SSID, it could cause connectivity issues (e.g., wifi SSID at my gym is "linksys", same as one of my neighbor's. My Inspire attempts to connect continuously without success to my neighbor's encrypted wifi after I've been at the gym which is an open wifi.)

Could you please fill me in on what you did to accomplish this. I am having the same exact issue it goes into a loop of trying to "obtain ip address" then disconnecting.
I have a stock inspire 4g, sig is outdated. Router was using wpa/wpa2 however i have switched through all the other available security settings (wep, no security) and the same issue persists.
Ok so now i went to the advanced settings and checked the DLNA auto-IP box, this allowed the phone to connect to the network however it still will not pull up any websites through the browser.
Been having the same problem here i can connect to my network but it times out trying to obtain an IP address disconnects and tries again. Any suggestions would be great because i can't seem to find an answer anywhere. My inspire is stock by the way never been rooted or anything
Is your router on IPv6? Needs to be on IPv4.
For those having problems with WiFi...
Change security to WEP
Put wireless router on channel 11
Try these settings first!

Still can't get it to obtain an IP address, however I got it to work by setting up a static IP address on the inspire. I would really like to get to the bottom of this problem though.
You might be having an IP conflict.. does your router allow you to assign IP per a connected device MAC address?
It basically holds a certain IP for a certain MAC address

Hmmm not sure I'll have to look into that. Havent tried to connect to any other networks yet guess that could help a bit
Have u updated the firmware on your network gear? What is your setup by the way?

Ok, tried to use a laptop today on my network and it had the same issue so I reset the whole system (i have at&t uverse) and that fixed it. Don't know why I didnt do that from that start but after I did my inspire connected first time with no problems.
I had a problem with my wireless router and my Verizon router using the same DNS gateways. I checked to see what my DLink routers DNS server/default gateway was using the commands in the run when you hit cmd+r on my PC. I then had to manually assign my phone to a static IP in wifi settings>advanced.
Example;
IP.(phone) 192.168.1.197
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.1.1
For some reason my phone was automatically reading 192.168.0.1 on the DNS and gateway.

Could any body tell me what to do.
HELP
It is probably in your router configuration.
Sounds like you have dhcp turned off on your router.
Try also resetting the router to stock default settings and go from there.

I did every thing
I did every thing you can imagine regarding the access point
rest to factory
change radio channel
with / without security
the DHCP working fine
seems that Dynamic setting could not get the Default gateway & DNS , WiFi can get it only with custom rom based on stock rom......
Is it WiFi driver problem , if it is.. how can i fix it?
I am useing now Honeysense 5.0 rom
Help
Any Body??
Possibly an IP conflict too... most likely its the router.. use channel 11 and set security to WEP..

Why would you ever tell anybody to do that?! Either use WPA2 w/ AES encryption (AES only, don't use TKIP) or just don't use security.
On another note, have you tried connecting to any other wifi networks with these other ROMs (i.e. public hotspots or at a friend's house)? Sometimes routers just are overly picky about how IP requests are handled and some devices don't play nicely. We have a client who's Macbook _WILL NOT_ get and IP from their Linksys regardless of the fact that every other device we've ever tried (everything from multiple Windows laptops to a Linux laptop to iPhones, iPods and android phones) works fine with it.
|OP|, try connecting to another Wireless Access Point and get back with us, please.
Try the APN trick listed in the forum. Your router might be set to IPV6 and you need it set to IPV4

Why? Because I had a problem with obtaining an IP on this phone UNTIL I changed WEP. I understand its the lowest security level, but I am not overly concerned with my WiFi getting hacked since 1. My ssid isn't broadcast and 2. If it was you would have to be within 10 ft of my house to even get a signal.
Since changing to WEP on this phone I haven't had a single problem with obtaining an IP

So buying a new router worked?
I have a Netgear WNDR4000 router. I am using WPA2 security, static internal IP addresses and a MAC table to control access to my home network. I have added multiple devices to my home network since I bought the router without any issues including an Android smartphone running gingerbread.
No matter what I do I cannot get my 300 to connect to the network. It does see the network SSID but it will not connect. I even tried the WPS button on the front of the router using the advanced settings on the 300 but still no luck.
I am beginning to think that the MAC address listed under the “About Device" menu item is not what the 300’s radio is actually broadcasting.
I have double- and triple-checked all the settings but I am getting nowhere.
Any help or suggestions you may have would be appreciated.
Does your smartphone support tethering? Connect the 300 to it to verify MAC address. You could TEMPORARILY reconfig your router to be open (no security) and confirm MAC address. Turn off MAC filtering to see if that is it. Get it to connect to something wide opeb and then begin layering on the security.
You have set up your static settings on the 300, correct? Sounds like you have DHCP disabled on the router...

Thank you for your response.
I did finally decide to take all the security of the router and the 300 connected right away. Then I checked the router's "attached devices" list and it did verify the MAC address that the 300 was displaying. So I was able to clear that as an issue.
I still could not get it to connect with my WPA2 security turned on (my router needs that level of security to put out "N" speeds) on the 2g network.
Right; I have DHCP disabled on the router. All my devices, wired and wireless, get an assigned internal IP address and their MAC addresses are loaded into a table.
Every other device I've added to the router connects without a problem.
I decided to send the 300 back and I'll just wait for the Infinity to hit the market.
Thanks again for your help.
Hope your next one works as it should. Mine connects fine using WPA or WPA2, multiple manufacturers. Still waiting for OTA, rooted running .17 firmware.

I have the new Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 student edition. It will not connect to my Uverse router. It sees it. I type in the password it shows "obtaining IP address" and then it says "network disabled, poor connection". It shows the signal as "strong" because I'm sitting in front of my router. I currently have my laptop, WDTV, Infinity, ipad, all connected to the same network, no issues ever getting on. The Tab will connect to my Epic's wireless hotspot if I activate that so I'm totally lost. Obviously that is not the connection I'd prefer to use when I'm at home. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? I don't know much about routers but I'm "in" mine, just don't know what to look for. TYIA.
The obtaing ip address seems like a problem which need manual configuration via advanced options
Do you use static ip or dns or so?
so long press the name of network after connected and you will find advanced and enter the required fields as ip, gateway, primary and secondary dns and those number ars entered once and saved to be used later

Go to settings, then advanced then tap on avoid poor connections so it is unchecked, try it then. Still doesnt work, do what ^ did.
Btw if your running the latest 4.0.4 the wifi seems messed up, people have said it in the past. If this is the case go to 4.0.3 by flashing through odin (flash counter may go up) or just flash cm9/10.

I had to reboot my router.
Go to adavnced on wifi options and turn off the don't use weak connections.
This is a strange one, because it used to do it and nothing has changed.
The WiFi can obtain an IP from the router, it can connect to my PC via the router.... but it just cant connect to the internet via the router?
If I disconnect the WiFi and just use data, everything that has been waiting comes flying through!
Any ideas what is going wrong, the phone says it's connected, but I could swear my WiFi symbol used to go green, but it is just staying white.
Running 21E OS.
TIA.
Couldn't really understand (no offence) but if this happens to me I usually just restart my router and it would work again.

Yeah I do have a Netgear wireless, I left everything off all night but no joy... I will try your channel change thing and see if that works. It's strange because it used to work and i haven't changed anything that I am aware of and the PC has no problem. But obviously nothing is being sent to the Cisco CM. Hmmm....
Thanks for the input guys. :good:
Sorry OptimusTM, it probably was a bit garbled in my original post.... basically the PC gets to the internet (probably like most folks here) by contacting the wireless, then the wireless contacts the cable modem then it goes to the internet.
However my O3D can contact the wireless, but the wireless doesn't seem to contact the cable modem for some reason, however it will contact the PC.
The phone says it's connected to the wireless. It has been given it's IP address.
Check your DNS server address.
Put manually 8.8.8.8 and tell us if it works.

I ended up fixing it buy changing the IP address that the wireless router was giving it (set it to static) and also the default gateway to the same as my PC's and it worked straight away.
Still no idea why it had such a dizzy turn in the first place though!?!? :silly:
same problem please can you explain steps

Hi guys
I want to ask you guys about my wifi problem. My Roger HOX cant connect to some modem/routers, it looking for IP address all the time. But when i reset the router(unplug from power source, and turn on again), it connected. But after you disconnect the phone, u cant reconnect it if not reset modem/router again.
It happen for just only my router at home, i tried 3 different places, and it is good to connect to that wifi networks. I cant understand this problem
Same thing happen when running stock rom or cook rom. So maybe the problem is my router? But everything else such as: laptop, playbook, touchpad, ipad... connect fine, only my phone have that problem
My internet is Telus.
I would play with the "advanced wifi" setting on the device:
- select (check) best wifi performance,
- keep wifi on during sleep
- play with the frequency band also, select one at a time
- assign an IP for your device (let's say 192.168.1.99) instead of being assigned by your router.
On the router, force the use of b/g instead the newer n type if supported or use different security authentication wep/wpa or both.

My router is n supported, some of device like ipod touch, ipad connect using n, but my oneX just use g, dont know why.

I remember I had a similar problem in the past and it was the router (netgear), my laptop would reconnect but not my phone (an atrix 4g at the time). Try to flash the latest firmware on the router using a wired connection (not while connected wireless) and then hard reset the router (you'll have to do all the settings again.) the hard reset was the important step, for some reason it didn't work if I skipped it.

Exactly, Telus using Netgear router :good: but maybe the problem was fixed rightnow after i upgrade my phone to Jelly Bean with sense 4+(Viper 3.0)
I need to take a look on my phone 2 or 3 more days to ensure it fixed. Dont know the reason, but when i use all of the custom rom base on ICS, still have the same problem, but when i updated to JB, it was fixed. LOL
PS: Nevermind, the problem is still here can you show me how to flash tthe latest firmware?
You'll find the latest firmware on netgear's website, then you log in on your router and flash from there (there's an option for that). If you want, I can pm you the detailed howto after I get home tonight, just send me the router model no.
