new Wifi issue from HTC One X Roger - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi guys
I want to ask you guys about my wifi problem. My Roger HOX cant connect to some modem/routers, it looking for IP address all the time. But when i reset the router(unplug from power source, and turn on again), it connected. But after you disconnect the phone, u cant reconnect it if not reset modem/router again.
It happen for just only my router at home, i tried 3 different places, and it is good to connect to that wifi networks. I cant understand this problem
Same thing happen when running stock rom or cook rom. So maybe the problem is my router? But everything else such as: laptop, playbook, touchpad, ipad... connect fine, only my phone have that problem
My internet is Telus.

I would play with the "advanced wifi" setting on the device:
- select (check) best wifi performance,
- keep wifi on during sleep
- play with the frequency band also, select one at a time
- assign an IP for your device (let's say 192.168.1.99) instead of being assigned by your router.
On the router, force the use of b/g instead the newer n type if supported or use different security authentication wep/wpa or both.

I did alll of that stuffs, but still have that problem. Maybe i will try to assign an IP for my device.
My router is n supported, some of device like ipod touch, ipad connect using n, but my oneX just use g, dont know why.
The security rightnow is both Wep and Wpa

I remember I had a similar problem in the past and it was the router (netgear), my laptop would reconnect but not my phone (an atrix 4g at the time). Try to flash the latest firmware on the router using a wired connection (not while connected wireless) and then hard reset the router (you'll have to do all the settings again.) the hard reset was the important step, for some reason it didn't work if I skipped it.

Exactly, Telus using Netgear router :good: but maybe the problem was fixed rightnow after i upgrade my phone to Jelly Bean with sense 4+(Viper 3.0)
I need to take a look on my phone 2 or 3 more days to ensure it fixed. Dont know the reason, but when i use all of the custom rom base on ICS, still have the same problem, but when i updated to JB, it was fixed. LOL
PS: Nevermind, the problem is still here can you show me how to flash tthe latest firmware?

You'll find the latest firmware on netgear's website, then you log in on your router and flash from there (there's an option for that). If you want, I can pm you the detailed howto after I get home tonight, just send me the router model no.

[Q] Wifi problems

I'm having an issue where my wifi can't obtain an IP address from my router. I've reset both the phone and the router and it still can't connect. The password is correct. Any ideas? THanks
Edit: It goes into a loop where it tries to get an address for a while and then disconnects and then starts over
Same here. I'm rooted and get the same thing on different find including stock.
Try turning your encryption off and see if you can connect. If it connects then start working up through the encryption levels. Some devices can't handle higher level encryptions.

I'm trying to connect to open networks. So that's not the problem. hope we don't have another case of the captivate on our hands. I'm kind of in the middle right now with this phone. Possibly returning it and keeping my captivate with all its Rom flashing goodness. I know its early but this thing seems a little buggy to me and the battery isn't helping any.
I'm also having this problem. It tries to connect to the network, fails, and tries to connect again. I love this phone but I may return it and get the Attrix

Turning off the wifi encryption worked for me. Not ideal but ok for now.
Hate to sound noobish but......how do I turn off the encryption?

Log into your router and set wireless security to unsecured, then save changes
If get on wifi networks in different locations but have same SSID, it could cause connectivity issues (e.g., wifi SSID at my gym is "linksys", same as one of my neighbor's. My Inspire attempts to connect continuously without success to my neighbor's encrypted wifi after I've been at the gym which is an open wifi.)

Could you please fill me in on what you did to accomplish this. I am having the same exact issue it goes into a loop of trying to "obtain ip address" then disconnecting.
I have a stock inspire 4g, sig is outdated. Router was using wpa/wpa2 however i have switched through all the other available security settings (wep, no security) and the same issue persists.
Ok so now i went to the advanced settings and checked the DLNA auto-IP box, this allowed the phone to connect to the network however it still will not pull up any websites through the browser.
Been having the same problem here i can connect to my network but it times out trying to obtain an IP address disconnects and tries again. Any suggestions would be great because i can't seem to find an answer anywhere. My inspire is stock by the way never been rooted or anything
Is your router on IPv6? Needs to be on IPv4.
For those having problems with WiFi...
Change security to WEP
Put wireless router on channel 11
Try these settings first!
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Still can't get it to obtain an IP address, however I got it to work by setting up a static IP address on the inspire. I would really like to get to the bottom of this problem though.
You might be having an IP conflict.. does your router allow you to assign IP per a connected device MAC address?
It basically holds a certain IP for a certain MAC address
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Hmmm not sure I'll have to look into that. Havent tried to connect to any other networks yet guess that could help a bit
Have u updated the firmware on your network gear? What is your setup by the way?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Ok, tried to use a laptop today on my network and it had the same issue so I reset the whole system (i have at&t uverse) and that fixed it. Don't know why I didnt do that from that start but after I did my inspire connected first time with no problems.
I had a problem with my wireless router and my Verizon router using the same DNS gateways. I checked to see what my DLink routers DNS server/default gateway was using the commands in the run when you hit cmd+r on my PC. I then had to manually assign my phone to a static IP in wifi settings>advanced.
Example;
IP.(phone) 192.168.1.197
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.1.1
For some reason my phone was automatically reading 192.168.0.1 on the DNS and gateway.

[Q] NS WiFi Problem - Obtaining IP Address

First of all may I say I have searched for this problem on google, as well as xda forum. I did find several threads about this problem, but none of the solutions presented appear to be my case.
So, basically the problem is: I cannot connect to my home router, a Linksys WRT300N N-router. I could not connect with a N1, HTC Desire, nor with my actual NS. My previous Galaxy S was connecting fine though. I'm talking here about stock ROM, no rooting, no custom kernel etc. Also, using static IP address works like a charm, but then WiFi cannot be used on other outside routers, since Static Ip setting is not setup PER router, but rather per WiFi connection, meaning the phone will try to use the static IP defined for any WiFi I run into.
From My experience, it seems it could be related to wireless N router as opposed to b/g. This happened since I replaced my router with the actual one. Ever since this happened, my phone would not connect to my router. Also, this problem seems to be presentfor any N-router, since I cannot connect to WiFi in other locations as well (which might have N-routers as well).
Assuming that it is a problem with N-routers, I don't understand why the Galaxy S would connect, but NS not, since they are almost the same hw.
Does anyone have a clue on this? But please skip solutions like reset router, reset phone, reset modem, use different ROM etc. I am talking stock ROM for all the examples above.
Thanks.
I use my NS with three 802.11N routers without issue (D-Link, Belkin and Netgear).
Have you checked if MAC filtering on the router is active? What security mode are you using? Who makes yr router and does it have latest fw?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Just seen you use Linksys, I have a wag160n and I find it unsusable on terms of wifi, dreadful hardware, despite the parent company being Cisco
Check Linksys forums for problems.
Try another router for whether it's that or phone at fault.

MAC filtering is disabled, I've checked it. Security is, on the router, PSK-Personal with TKIP encryption. Key renewal: 7200 sec. Not sure if this can influence anything.
I've checked on linksys page for fw upgrade, they only have pdf manuals.

Have you checked that you set up the router with b/g/n protocols? not only N..
Try to change the password encrypting method, to WPA or WPA2 or WEP, try also to change the default password.
Have you tried to disable the firewall (DMZ)?
I have exactly the same issue on my stock Desire.....
I have recently upgraded my router from a Belkin G+ to a Belkin N+ and using the b/g/n setting the desire WILL see the connection but will NOT connect to it, NO MATTER WHAT settings you try. Changing it to b/g and it will connect without any issues.
It is my understanding that the Desire/Nexus et al doesnt have the access to the N ability enabled (it has the correct chipset but for some reason it is not active).
Maybe when broadcasting the tri-band the chipset only sees the stronger N connection, therefore tries to connect but gets conflicted (due to lack of N firmware) and instead of switching to b/g it just loops to the stronger signal. IF that makes any sense

Well, the funny part is that I don't even know how to disable the N range to my Linksys 300N.
Anyway, it is weird that the Samsung Galaxy S had no issues with this, while Nexus S (still Samsung made, brother-in-law to SGS) has this issue. For HTC, all have had this problem, including Desire, Desire HD, Wildfire.
Still no explanation or resolution to this matter.
I may have fixed this issue (well I have for me anyway, so yay).
After posting this I decided to apply some weird logic to it. So I reset the router back to b/g, to do this you need to log into the router IP settings, for Belkin it is 192.168.2.1. On linksys routers I think it is 192.168.1.1 but check to be sure.
Once you are logged in there you can change the broadcast settings from N, b/g/n or b/g etc.
Okay, so here is what I did. I reset the router to broadcast b/g only, my Desire would connect. So I decided to try resetting the router to broadcast b/g/n (because I use N on other devices) and then switched the wifi on the desire off and back on again. Low and behold it connects.......Tried it loads of times now and connects everytime!
Might be worth a try?
You guys should just check the logs on the router and see what they say. Should give you a much better idea of what the issue is. You can then Google the error line.
Mine is fixed now, been connecting to various N routers with NO probs since I did the workaround.
My guess would be a protocol conflict (wireless handshake if you prefer) when N routers are broadcasting (based on the fact that the Desire/Nexus etc dont have N protocol enabled in the chipset firmware).
To get around the conflict connect to an N router using the b/g only setting in the routers IP settings and then check you can connect okay and switch the b/g/n back on in the router. I've done this twice today (different N routers, a Linksys and a D-Link) and it works on both where it wouldnt before, so it wasnt just my router.
hum... i am having the exact same problem as described only my router is already using
802.11g&802.11b
i have no idea why it keeps trying to obtain ip address
then it scans agains because it can't connect and tries to obtain the ip again
after trying for a minute or 2, the home ssid becomes:
"disabled, secured with..."
(device = motorola atrix)
I have tried everything and still not working... do routers block Mac addresses if it doesn't connect right away?

[Q] Wi-Fi not working. Am I the only one?

Okay, a little about my setup. I have tested on Slim ICS 2.7, 2.9; Codename Android 1.4, 1.5.5; as well as AOKP (I dont know exact builds, but am on the latest now - build 28). I have a Cradlepoint MBR 1000 which is a b/g/n 4g router (though I only have cable hooked up - was bought originally to allow me to broadcast my Clear 4g service, but Clear doesnt work where I live now).
EVO 3D, iPhone 4s, All my laptops, HeroC, Kyocera Echo, Roku...I mean everything connects to my Wi-Fi EXCEPT my NS4G...WTH?
Does anyone else have this issue?...could it be some settings with the N router?...I cant believe everything but this phone works.
Please help. It is so frustrating to be limited to 3g that works intermittently while I am at home. I have all my apps from the Google Play backed up to my sdcard so I dont have to connect to install them...it is a huge pain. Thanks in advance
Need some more description. What settings do you have on the router, how have you tried to connect, does it connect then drop out, can you see the network at all, etc?
Either your phones wifi hardware is gone or your house.
So here's what you can do to narrow down on the problem.
Tell me if you can connect to any other wifi hotspots outside your house. If it does connect then problem is router if it doesn't than problem is with the phone.
Good luck.

Not necessarily. Setup of each router can change in numerous ways so as to stop certain devices from working, as can certain phone settings not allow connecting to certain routers. It is not quite so black and white, and we already know the router works.

Sounds like a channel setting problem. Easiest way is to open up your router config and change the channel between 1 and 12 and this shouldn't happen again. Alternatively you could mess around with your build.prop.
Harbb is right, you might want to test several things within your router:
Change channels (use 1, 6 or 11-12)
Set it to only use on b/g connections (don't use n)
Different authentication methods (WPA2 with AES, etc)
And make sure you don't have a limit on your DHCP settings (just to make sure you don't have a ton of devices connected so it's not handing more IPs) or MAC filter.
Okay, sorry for not replying sooner. I posted this, then went to bed.
@Harbb:
It does see the network, lets me connect, put in the password, and says it is connected. It always says the connection is poor when I know it should be a good connection. The phone then shows the wifi icon and up and down arrows inside of the icon...I never see a portion of blue. When I try to download from the market, it will act like it is working, then the icon will disappear/reappear numerous times before it tell me there is not a connection.
As for my router setup. I do not know what information will help in this but here is some info: I do not have MAC filtering on, WISH is active (dont use it), WPA2 Only Personal AES (this is what I use), Channel 6 (I have tried channel 11 because I read somewhere the Wii needed 1 or 11 or one of my devices needed it), Transmission rate is Best, Channel is Auto 20/40 MHz, Mixed b/g/n (to utilize N and G, it has to be on this setting, there isn't an option for Mixed n/g), it is set on 192.168.0.x, NetBIOS mode type is Mixed (Broadcast then Point to Point).
@shockem I have not tested it with any other hotspot to see if it is just a problem with that router and this phone. I will try if I can find an open hotspot and let you know.
@Billchen0014 It does detect the network and connects, but drops it constantly...I cant even download a <1MB file from the market.
@Harbb (2) Going by your advice to daviki...it looks like I need to check another router. I go by a Starbucks, so I will try their hotspot...unless it isn't free, then Ill look around.
Thanks everyone who is helping me with this.
@Oogway, I will try G only and see what happens...if I use Mixed it has to be g/b or b/g/n. As for DHCP there is only 2 maybe 3 devices connected and No MAC filtering
Could it be the Wifi country code issue?
Is that something on the phone? Also, I tested different channels (1, 6, 11) as well as b/g and g only. Still no go.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA
Thanks for the info. Test another hotspot (preferably one with a wpa2 password too if possible) and let us know. I'll reply later with some things to try as I gotta get going.
Okay, I did test one more thing. I sat right next to the router and it had full bars. Stayed full and my speed tests were great. Moved to where I sit on the couch about 30 walking steps away and no connection. I know the signal reaches because it is where I use laptops and other devices. The PS3 and Wii are further away and have no issue. It is not a clear path, but there aren't any doors between the router and the couch.
Just some more info...leading me to believe it is an issue with the phone. I get horrible service with Sprint also, so it may be connected. I don't know.
Any ideas? Is it just because of how far away I am?
Again, thanks everyone for the help. It has been so frustrating ever since I got the phone.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA
Wifi Analyzer can give you a dB reading on the signal strength if you'd like to try that from a distance too. Wifi at uni likes to show low bars quite often, however alot of the time i have great signal and it shows through wifi analyzer. May not be related since uni is a peap connection, but worth a shot anywho. Might give another hint on whether you should seek out warranty or router settings.

Wifi SSID Unavailable

Hey All,
I am currently running AOKP Jelly Bean, and I am having an issue with my WiFi network. When I turn WiFi on on the phone, I see all of my neighbors' SSIDs that my computer sees, however, my SSID doesn't appear at all. I didn't have this issue on stock; the phone would connect when I parked my car outside my place.
I have tried:
1. Manually entering my SSID and connection info. After this it just says the network is out of range.
2. Activating the WPS connection option on the phone and pressing the WPS button on the router.
3. Doing the manual WPS method with the PIN from the phone in the router setup.
4. Changing the WiFi broadcast channels, strength, GHz, and b/g/n.
5. Enabling only the approved MAC addresses to connect to the router.
6. Restarting the router.
Nothing has worked so far. I downloaded WiFi Analyzer on my phone, and my network doesn't show up. If I didn't have two other computers connected, I would think something is wrong with the router. Any suggestions? I would have posted this in the AOKP thread, however I don't yet have permission. Thanks!
I doubt it is your phone because you see your neighbors wi-fi. So I'd power cycle the router (I see you did that once already). And also ensure it's not operating on high band wireless N (5.8 Ghz I think) but sounds like that's not the case because it worked on stock. Are you broadcasting your SSID?

I retried power cycling the router (and modem) this morning with no improvement. Right now it is set to broadcast b/g/n with the channel set to auto and at 2.4 GHz. Also, I am broadcasting my SSID according to the router settings and being able to see it on my MBA and iPad. No luck yet!
Now that I have access to the Development threads, I have gone ahead and posted this in the AOKP Jelly Bean thread. If a moderater sees fit to delete this, I understand. Thanks to all those who took a look!
Are you in the US (or using a US phone)? Reason I ask is that I believe phones here are restricted from certain channels of wi-fi not approved by the FCC. So if you're router is not a US model and were auto-selecting you wouldn't necessarily see it. Might try assigning channel 1 just to eliminate that as a possibility... Although if you are in the US and your router was purchased/leased here then it's not that.

I answered your post in the aokp thread. I'm having an issue where my phone connects to my router but no data is transferred. I just broke out my old belkin g router and problems solved. Yes running 2 routers isn't ideal but it works.

Just in case it helps anyone: if you run two routers on a common band, whether with the same SSID or not, make sure they are not on the same channel or near channels; i.e. channels 1,6, and 11 work well together. (Although six is frequently a default and I assume most people never change it so your neighbors may already have it saturated.)
I believe Veritas327 said in their original post that they already tried G-band - so, mikeyinid, do you think it has more to do with the older hardware rather than the frequency? I'm really just curious at this point...

[Q] using a tethering connection

Hello,
I have a strange behaviour.
I have a rooted phone with a custom ROM (HTC Vision running Andromadus Mimicry 1.5.0 ICS).
I frequently use my phone with a shared connection through tethering. My laptop can access internet without issue.
Now, I have a note 10.1. I can connect to the wireless network of my phone. However, it can't access to internet! Any ideas for solving that? Thanks by advance.
Nobody has encountered this problem?
Incorrect security key or encryption type.
Or one of the devices set for static ip the other dynamic.

Check your settings I had a similar issue with LG but it was not my hardware but a cleverly disguised AP setting by Vodafone which prevented it, try using another company sim and see if it works
It's not a wrong security key, the tablet is connected to the WiFi hotpoint. When I try to go to any website, nothing happens (I don't have any error).
With the same phone configuration, my laptop can connect to the WiFi provided by my phone and then can goes to internet. For this reason, I consider I have no bad configuration from my phone side neither on provider.
Anyway, even if it doesn't accept this kind of configuration, it can't see it!
How can I check if the IP is static or dynamic? I would say that I use dynamic since I have one configuration feature related to the DHCP.
