do i need to remove cwm bootstrap before doing the ics ota? - Motorola Atrix 2

So we know that the ics ota is is coming soon. In on stock rooted 2.3.6. I know you don't have to uproot to do it, but I did (for some reason) install bootstrap and bootstrapped my recovery. Is there anything I need to do with that before the ota or is that good to leave as well since it's not actually flashed? If so could you tell me or link me to a guide? (Sorry if this has been asked couldn't find anything on it)

Your best bet is to fxz to a full 100% stock load before any OTA. We already have root so losing root is only for during the update, I know it does not check for root, but it is safer to just be 100% stock off of the fxz.
If you are on the ICS leak, I have several people testing the fix I have made and I am hopeful to have it released to everyone in the next couple of days.

I'm not worried about root, but man last time I attempted an fxz I got extremely confused and ended up just exchanging my phone... Well shoot. I believe most phones can do OTA's with root, just not sure about that whole bootstrap and I still have all the stock (non-uninstallable) at&crap apps.

You HAVE to remove bootstrap, the log wrapper link in /system/bin and also remove the hijack file in /system/bin and move logwrapper.bin to logwrapper also in /system/bin. All of this can be done from root explorer. Then reboot. If not done correctly you will bootloop. The fxz is way easier and I have a scripted version that does not require rsdlite.

Will the scripted version work from 2.3.6 ti 2.3.5? Also will I run into all those CG errors and whatnot with it? So so sorry for my annoyance and ignorance but I guess that will help me learn.

You have no ignorance, no worries... questions are what this place is for and so you can learn.
Yes I have script for both 2.3.6 and another for ICS.
Not sure if you will have the cg error or not. Usually you get that from flashing the incorrect fxz. If you tell me which version of the phone you have and your correct location, I might be able to put a "special" one together for.
Or if you bought an att phone but live in India then you might have to flash the att fxz and then give cogeary's international rom a try.

[Guide] [UXKG3] Complete Stock (FOR ROGERS USERS ONLY)

Sarius24 said:
Okay so from the help of GTG I removed the Root off the stock rom.
Here's what i did. It's probably obvious for others, but I didnt realize it so whatever, just posting it incase anyone got stuck with the rooted gingerbread 2.3.3 and didnt know how to rid of the root. For me superoneclick doesnt work dont know why. So also you can use this method if you cant get that to work.
I also didnt realize that root explorer could just remove the root files so that when you factory reset it doesnt come back. Go figure .
01/11/2011
INFUSE 4G -- BACK TO STOCK 2.3.3 GINGERBREAD METHOD --
Visit this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193927
Download Odin_UXKG3_rooted_no_bootloaders_vs.zip & Extract its contents.
Flash using GTG's method. USE the ODIN version because it is not De-odexed.
RETURN TO UXKG3 KERNEL:
Download it from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1197248
> Odin_Stock_Rogers_UXKG3_Kernel.zip
Again follow the steps mentioned in GTG's thread.
MAKE SURE VOODOOLAG FIX IS DISABLED!
HOW: Create a folder on your internal SD card called Voodoo. Then create another folder inside of it called disable-lagfix.
I didn't do this the first time and the phone bricked on me D:
FLASH KERNEL WITH ODIN --
After phone has booted
Download Root explorer from market & locate and delete:
/system/xbin/su
/system/xbin/busybox
/system/app/Superuser
go to settings>Privacy
-- DELETE USER DATA ALONG WITH SD CARD DATA --
DO IT, reboot. NO ROOT PURE STOCK.
When you factory reset the root wont be there either. Thank god.

Not to nitpick but I'm looking at the 'gtg's stock uxkg3 rom with root removed' and noticed that it has the de-odexed apk's and framework files. I'm pretty sure that the Rogers Infuses, out of the box, have odex files. Would the lack of odex files be enough reason for Rogers not to service an Infuse with the reason being that some of the system files have been modified?
Also, not a big deal, but the updater-script still has references to 'su' and 'busybox' and symlinks to bin files that do not exist (ex. mkdir).
It would be awesome if gtg could provide the original framework. Or anyone with a rogers phone.

ok guys heres what im gonna do. im gonna download the odin version of the uxkg3 root package. pull all the apps and framework from there. and drop them into the rom package on here. i need someone to test once im done.
The odin version, are you able to remove the odex or whatever its called from it? And I'd be willing to test it when i get back home. Around 6-7pm est time. I take it around 5-6pm for your time Jordan.

[Q] Return AT&T Atrix 2 to Stock (2.3.6)?

I am having the same problem with Contacts and with process com.motorola.contacts force closing that many others are having. I had rooted as well as uninstalled bloatware (instead of freezing, yes, I know!). Tried unrooting, reinstalling Yahoo and AT&T apps as suggested, factory resets, everything. Contacts still acts the same; that is, I can get to it but can't edit individual contacts nor get to Contacts Storage. I think it must have something to do with AT&T Address Book, which won't reinstall (says not supported but was there before).
At this point I just want to return Atrix 2 to its stock, 2.3.6 configuration and start all over. Can anyone help me, or is that not "out" yet?
Follow the instructions on flashing the 2.3.5 FXZ listed here (the beginner's guide) and then use the OTA update to get to 2.3.6. Next time make a CWM backup before you try any ROMs! It is inevitable that you'll eventually get stuck in some sort of boot loop.

It's not hard at all! Just follow the instructions listed EXACTLY and make sure that your battery is well charged before you do this -- if it dies during the middle of something like this, you could run into a tricky problem.

It's alot easier than it sounds....and im no pro. I was able to successfully flash 2.3.5 to mine that way the first time around following the instructions in the noob thread.
Atrix 2//RebelROM//Tapatalk 2
so let me get this straight....
I had 2.3.5 rooted. I accepted the OTA update to 2.3.6, so naturally, it un-rooted me, although the superuser is still there. I tried the one click method for 2.3.6 after it came out, as I am a total NOOB and was afraid to try it and screw things up. That doesn't work. I tried to unroot it using the same method. Also didn't work. The superuser is still there and denying permissions.
Soooooooo, I have decided to do the FXZ method in the in the noob/general forum. I'm still unclear and afraid about how to do it. Am I supposed to go through the first 11 steps, then do the "replace" step that is added as a note? Speaking of the added note. It says to "move all the the items in it to the stock fxz". The "stock FXZ" is what i downloaded and did in step 1-11, right? I have searched the forums and this was the best place I could see to ask. Sorry for my extreme NOOBness.
Thanks in advance for helping, or just taking the timpe to read my post!

yes, this is made for windows computers and will work. uzip it and run the returntostoxk.bat file it will confirm your phone is connected (you have to be in fastboot mode) and after that just press enter and let it run and complete and youll be back to stock. you have to reroot your phone too, so id just update to the ota 2.6 and then root that, then intall your atrix bootstrap and then the bionic recovery from rom manager. then your ready to flash some roms again.

That was my only guess. I bought it mint from ebay. I'm hoping that is the issue with a bloatwsre getting removed.
Well...so good news and bad news.
This was phone I had purchased from Ebay. I works great. The problem I started with it receiving an update for 2.3.6, but it failed when attempting to update. From what I have read, this could be related bloated getting deleted.
I first attempted to find InlineFlashing_edison_5.5.175.16_cfc_p3_APBP_CID28 5.zip, but wasn't able to find a working link.
I was pointed to using a .bat file by Rob in this thread. Thanks a bunch Rob. All went well; however, when attempting to perfrom the update to 2.3.6 it now gives me an out of system memory error. It doesn't even start to download the update...odd. It then ask me to factory reset. however, the factory reset then takes me back into a fastboot mode.
Any ideas of next steps? Do I need to attempt finding the original InlineFlashing file? If so, any idea where to find it?
Thanks everyone! I appreciate the help.

[VIDEO] FP5 Update Zip + Rooting Stock

I felt this warranted its own thread, and is pertinent to development. So here's to my first thread in the development section!
As you know, the Charge is getting an update to its Gingerbread stock ROM, titled FP5.
I was one of the lucky ones to get it early, so I pulled it out of cache and uploaded it to Dropbox.
So here it is:
http://db.tt/feigCZuH
If you want to try it:
You need to be fully stock before you can use this. This includes being on RFS. Then download, rename to update.zip, place on root of SD, and flash on the stock recovery.
To Root (assuming starting at stock FP5):
Download the CWM flashable root zip, found at http://androidsu.com/superuser/ (its rude of me to hotlink it). Download the whole package for ARM, not just binary (get 3.0.7-efghi-signed). Put it on your SD card.
NOTE: Most of us Charge users have found that SuperSU (Chainfire's replacement for Superuser) is much more stable on this device. I personally recommend SuperSU, but if you want to keep using superuser, it's your call. Installation instructions will be the same, just Google SuperSU and download the zip rather than Superuser.
Then, get the CWM recovery, and flash it via Odin. Uncheck "auto reboot". Unplug your device and boot to CWM, mount /system, then flash the SU zip (I would wipe cache and dalvik just to be safe).
Your device will boot and be rooted, however the CWM recovery will be overwritten. Get root explorer and search for "install-recovery.sh" (in /system/etc) Change permissions, delete, rename, or otherwise maim the script.
Finally, reflash CWM in Odin. Your device will boot and be rooted, with CWM Recovery, with in the stock FP5 ROM. Feel free to debloat to your pleasing.
You want a video tutorial? You're hard to please.
http://youtu.be/DXSmONvpkSQ
the introduction is VERY off sync. Please don't turn the volume up and scare the crap out of yourself. Sorry, I can't make it available on mobile, something about copyright infringement.
I'll be making an Odin next week, since a user requested it. Just have to wait until I get back from vacation... EDIT: Odins are already available. None from me.

Thank you sir, can't wait to try it on my charge when it comes back from samsung...unless they send me back a nexus
has anyone tried it yet? I'm assuming it will work on tweaked 2.x?
I tried to flash it via CWM (before realizing that I needed to rename it to "update.zip"), but got "installation aborted". I did revert back to RFS first though.... I guess I'll try it again...
You most likely have to be full stock to use it.

OK, so first off thanks kvswim for getting this out there so fast
Secondly, I'm out and about for a wee bit, but once I'm back at my computer (mid next week) I'll get to work. I'm not sure how long it'll take, but I always assume it'll take a while.
I would also like to put out a request. The last update I did I went through and updated every theme in tweaktools along the way. That took a LONG time, so I was wondering if there were any interested in assisting the theme update process. This will obviously not be relevant until I have the base all finished up, but if you feel you have some of the necessary know-how and are interested feel free to PM me. Most of the themes were made by folks that no longer have the device, which is why I updated everything last time. If I get a few takers I'll make a thread to keep things all organized as far as who is doing what, that way proper credit can be given to those that lend a hand.
Also, no worries if there is no interest/time to help. I have no issue doing it, it'll just take a bit longer.
Carry on.
I can probably make an Odin of this next week if anyone wants it.
Also dwith, I can't help you at all with the themes, I would need to walk through it at least once first. Never taken apart a theme.

Does this include improved radios? Will there be new radios we could flash before Tweaked gets updated?
Yes, there are radio updates in this. However I can't pull radios only until next week, and even then I'll need someone to help me.

Cool. I have no problem with waiting. I edited the fingerprint line in build.prop so I won't be hassled by the update. My phone runs fine.
You can only dump the LTE radio, you won't be able to get a dump of the CDMA radio.

Is there a new kernel with FP5 & will you update your own kernel fork with it? I found out that http://opensource.samsung.com has FP5 as SCH-I510-VZW_GB_Opensource_Update2.zip available.
I've returned to stock and then taken the OTA and can't seem to keep my root or cwm recovery. sooo im going to have to edit my build prop until there is a root fix for this.

There's a certain file that checks if your recovery "needs" to be overwritten by stock, and all you need to do is change permissions on that file. For the life of me I can't remember what it is though.
I would imagine that would help you with your root too.

OK, so finally I recovered my phone from flashing an unsigned system.img on the 67.21.125 ICS (The second version).
I'll go into detail later but here is what I did:
First, I flashed everything included in my fxz minimal.fastboot files.
Second, I flashed the 2.3.6 boot, system, and webtop partition (DON'T FLASH ANY OTHERS RATHER THAN THE boot, system, and grfs img's or you will hard brick your device).
Third, I entered recovery and applyed the first ICS leak, then it went into fastboot and complained about recovery and cdt so I flashed it from the minimal fxz's. And then I re-applyed the ics leak and then Something unreal happened, it booted :laugh::laugh:.
Last, I OTA'ed to the .125 leak again and everything was back to %100 normal.
And thats the end of the story, someone can write a tutorial from there .
Cheers!!!
PS: I'm not responsible if you bricked your device for good becuase of this, SO DON'T BLAME ME!!!
PSS: If this helped, then please hit the THANKS button below.

Nice job!!!
So to make this clear, you found a way to go back to 2.3.6 from the second ics leak? Im not really understanding this.

Accually, It is not downgrading to gb but getting ics working again. If you try to boot gb instead of going to recovery, then you would boot loop.
So if your bricked, then this is the solution to fix it.

Wow...this is EXACTLY what I need...I'm not sure as to how exactly you did this. The wording confuses me I guess...feel like a noob lately :/ But excellent work either, Hope I can get this down. I nees to get back to stock ICS but am only able to get into stock ICS recovery/fastboot. Awesome...I hear hope!

Well, a few things are not so clear yet - give us a little while to try and come up with a more direct way - or for tcf to put together a guide - but this is my understanding (please correct me or add if necessary, tcf):
He's talking about the minimal fxz package he put together from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912035 (which only has a linux script I believe - but you could flash them one by one through the command prompt in windows - or, we could get a batch file made up also).
Then, the system.img, recovery.img, and grfs.img only from 2.3.6 (found in the 2.3.6 fxz from here or the same are in the leak#1 2.3.6 fxz).
Then he applied the leak#1 ota package.
Got thrown back into fastboot.
Flashed the cdt.bin again from the minimal fxz package (which is actually from ICS leak#2/soak package) -- but not sure if he flashed recovery.img from there again also..
Then he re-applied the leak (#1?) again - and it booted to ICS.
So, I am not sure about the timing of things or how it exactly worked out yet, but I notice the linux script for the minimal fxz package doesn't have a reboot-bootloader before the cdt.bin flash - also there should probably be a pause after the reboot-bootloader lines to allow it to reboot completely before attempting to flash the next file. That may be partial reason for the multiple flashings of the cdt.bin.. but, again, maybe not - maybe it's all in some magical order... though a few of us will be digging a bit deeper into this I'm sure.
Thanks again to tcf38012 for pushing this thought of upgrading back to the leak - we were on that path at one time, but the pieces of the puzzle weren't fitting together..

Thanks for trying to clarify this. It seems like it would be time consuming for me to try since I'm a windows user. I am glad that he did find a way to get some of our soft bricked users back on track.

thanks for good job, waiting your instructions....
Yeah, this great man! I got an A2 that is stuck at the boot logo from a screw up on the second leak. I have a Samsung skyrocket now, so I'm the perfect guinea pig to try out what you need! Eagerly awaiting further instructions!

Did Anyone tested this?
I'll write a tutorial after school which I'm about to go to (High School). I get home at 3:45 - 4:30 and I get done my homework at 5:00 - 5:30 so I'll try to write it at 5:45.
Just hang in there!
Cheers!!!
