[Q] Return AT&T Atrix 2 to Stock (2.3.6)? - Motorola Atrix 2

I am having the same problem with Contacts and with process com.motorola.contacts force closing that many others are having. I had rooted as well as uninstalled bloatware (instead of freezing, yes, I know!). Tried unrooting, reinstalling Yahoo and AT&T apps as suggested, factory resets, everything. Contacts still acts the same; that is, I can get to it but can't edit individual contacts nor get to Contacts Storage. I think it must have something to do with AT&T Address Book, which won't reinstall (says not supported but was there before).
At this point I just want to return Atrix 2 to its stock, 2.3.6 configuration and start all over. Can anyone help me, or is that not "out" yet?

Follow the instructions on flashing the 2.3.5 FXZ listed here (the beginner's guide) and then use the OTA update to get to 2.3.6. Next time make a CWM backup before you try any ROMs! It is inevitable that you'll eventually get stuck in some sort of boot loop.

I will try that. It looks pretty complicated...I'll be studying for awhile!

It's not hard at all! Just follow the instructions listed EXACTLY and make sure that your battery is well charged before you do this -- if it dies during the middle of something like this, you could run into a tricky problem.

It's alot easier than it sounds....and im no pro. I was able to successfully flash 2.3.5 to mine that way the first time around following the instructions in the noob thread.
Atrix 2//RebelROM//Tapatalk 2

so let me get this straight....
I had 2.3.5 rooted. I accepted the OTA update to 2.3.6, so naturally, it un-rooted me, although the superuser is still there. I tried the one click method for 2.3.6 after it came out, as I am a total NOOB and was afraid to try it and screw things up. That doesn't work. I tried to unroot it using the same method. Also didn't work. The superuser is still there and denying permissions.
Soooooooo, I have decided to do the FXZ method in the in the noob/general forum. I'm still unclear and afraid about how to do it. Am I supposed to go through the first 11 steps, then do the "replace" step that is added as a note? Speaking of the added note. It says to "move all the the items in it to the stock fxz". The "stock FXZ" is what i downloaded and did in step 1-11, right? I have searched the forums and this was the best place I could see to ask. Sorry for my extreme NOOBness.
Thanks in advance for helping, or just taking the timpe to read my post!

Unzip the stock fxz and copy the extra files into it. Accept any error it may give you. The open rsd and click the "..." Button and find the fxc that you modified and then hook your phone up in Detroit and hit the start button. Should be golden after
Running AtrixBlaze 3 on my Atrix 2.

Downloading FXZ as we speak. i will give an update as soon as I try it out! Thanks again.

IT WORKED!!!!
As the title states, it worked. I downloaded the fxz, replaced the files, ran it, the re-rooted after everything came back up. Then I did the OTA rootkeeper procedure and now I am about to takt the ota. Will let you know if anything goes wrong after that. Thanks again for all the help and encouragement.

I just wanted to be sure that I wouldn't lose root again if I ever get another ota. If the motto fail incorporates that, I wasn't aware.

[Q] Metamorph Made Notification Bar Dissappear

A few months ago I used Metamorph to edit my notification bar, and after the reboot, it dissappeared. After looking around the forums, it seemed the best way to fix the issue was to flash the stock rom, as I did (twice), with no prevail. I then thought it might be possible to flash the atrix superROM (something like that) and it installed superuser.apk to the root directory but didn't root the system. The problem with this is that I am now not able to root my atrix 2 because it cannot overwrite the Superuser.apk installed in the root file. I will accept any answer that either roots my phone or enables my statusbar, because that is the priority.
P.S. I have been waiting for another update to roll around, thinking that might fix the problem, but there has not been one for 4 months or so, and I am getting impatient.
Also, I am not new to these forums; I am just a reader, not a poster.
Sounds like you need to start over. Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
Use the directions in here to flash back to bone stock with the fxz method. After that, you should be fine to reroot.

That's the key! I had to flash fxz 2.3.5 then OTA update to 2.3.6 and re-root. Worked like a charm. Not sure that including the superuser.apk file in root of fxz file actually roots, since there are certain exploits from the root file that need to take place.

Sweet, more confirmation! I can't wait to get home to fix this! Finally I don't have to open the phone [app?] to answer a call and I can see what that random notifocation ringtone is for without looking at every app.

??? Not sure what you mean man?
After you get back to 2.3.6 stock, Just re root. If you root with a one click method, a lot of those push superuser for you.
The link above gives you two methods of how to reroot. Just follow the instructions and you should be fine.

Without a statusbar when you get a call it doesn't automatically go to the call when you turn the screen on, I have to navigate my way to the phone while it's ringing. Hope that explains it.

LOL, gotcha. Yah that would suck big time.
Oh and FYI seems as though both the links to the stock FXZ are down, but you can get it HERE.
Late reply, but it worked! Ice Cream Sandwich, here I come!
Glad to see you got it fixed...just a tip, before you make any changes like changing the status bar, make a Nandroid Backup of your phone BEFORE you make the changes. With the Nandroid backup, if something goes wrong you can just restore the backup and you should be back to the same configuration before the mod. Just a tip...

UCLE2 - Can't get root access

I'm just starting to learn how to do all this...
I have CWM 5.8.4.0 installed, UCLD2 and Superuser 3.0.7
I've lost root access and can't figure out how to get it back. I've been searching the forum but can't quite seem to find what I need. I went through the process for rooting and no good result. I thought maybe I should just do a recovery back to 2.3.6 in CWM and it says the MD5 mismatch. I thought I had a solid backup for my original phone all this time. I restored it once through ROM manager and it worked great. I did a factory reset and went through the rooting process again and still nothing.
What my goal is, is to flash to a ROM that people are liking and that performs well. Was going to try SKYICS 4.2E, but I don't think I should attempt anything until I figure out how to go to a backup consistently. I could back up what I have now, which gives me a working phone, but I don't really like it. Most of my apps don't work correctly on it. What I really don't want to do is go forward again and really have it jacked up and not be able to go to a previous backup.
Where should I start? I'm guessing getting root access again. I'm assuming I won't be able to flash another ROM until I get this.
Thanks for the help!
I was having that problem too, I used this script "su_ics_v3.1_updated_wraithdu_installer" also install and run busybox if you haven't already or just flash an insecure kernel (make sure its right for your rom)

Okay funny guy... What was my first line again??? lol
I don't even know how to get back to stock. I can do that even if I don't have root access? I'm just trying to learn the mechanics of all this. Learn what does what... CWM is a means to write to the phone from boot. Can install different ROMs and parts of ROMS, ie. lock screens... Then there's kernels that operate the hardware that have to be compatible with the ROM. People talk about way more than I can comprehend at this point; it's one step at a time for learning.
So---first step is what? Read for hours? I don't understand what I'm reading. haha

What was the very first line in my post? lol
I'm not a programmer, but have taken some Java classes.
I don't know how to use scripts at all. In my mind, I can't do anything until I get root access. I'm not sure what the MD5 mismatch means either. I'm definitely reading things, but it seems that either I'm not understanding or that it's a tangent and not really related to what I'm trying to do...
You don't need root access. All you need is cwm to flash roms, kernels and radios

read the n00b posts and stickies, its really not that hard, all roms r rooted..meaning u dont have to root, u can do root ur self for stock firmware, the hard part(not really hard) is flashing cwm(clockworkmod recovery) via odin, once u do that flash a rom according to the rom u want to use, read this on howto root and flash cwm using odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526
to go back to stock is very easy also via odin, read this link on howto http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652398
once u find a rom read all about that rom on how to flash it and any trouble shooting
clockworkmod recovery replaces the stock recovery so u can do wonderful things to our phones, it's this application that installs(flashes) the roms
Thanks for the info... I installed another ROM that I liked better, SKYICS without the root. I wanted to tweek something else and I cannot do it unless I get root access. Using Odin is pretty easy like you said and CW recovery. The first link you posted is the one I originally followed and it was rooted. I went through the process again and no root. Titanium just says sorry I don't have permission. I did a factory reset and tried to root again and nothing. I'm not sure where to go from here to get the root back....
If you flash a custom ROM they are already rooted

I don't have root access. I did have it, but lost it when I installed ICS 4.0.4.
Titanium is saying it can't do anything... I just checked and now it's working. I didn't change anything. That's weird. It asked me for permission and is now in the superuser list. I couldn't get anything to do that for a few days. I'll just have to say Okay and move on. lol

thats why i said when u use a rom "once u find a rom read all about that rom on how to flash it and any trouble shooting", its usually a bad flash, if reflashing doesnt work then redownload the rom and again and flash
u could of flashed superuser, but the problem was the rom didnt install properly......good u got it solved

Can you be more specific on rooting 4.0.4? I didn't like SKY ICS and installed Embryo. It's much faster than the other, but now I don't have root again. I don't know how I got root access to SKY ICS, because when I asked I didn't have root, but 2 days later I suddenly had the access and did nothing.

That's exactly what I did and it's not working. I'm using CWM touch and tried 2 different superuser files I've found and nothing. BusyBox won't install because it says it doesn't have permission and I can't mount the drive in the phone with a file explorer because it's not rooted.
I read somewhere that I may need to install an "insecure kernel", or maybe a ROM that is already rooted? I can't figure those things out....
I've even started all over and flashed the UCLE2 again, cleared all data. then installed Embryo, CWM then superuser. No luck. I'm at a loss here.
Update: I have tried these superuser files.
Superuser, Superuser-3.0.7-d-signed and Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed. The last one gave me root access for 4.0.4. I'll attach the file for others.

...which is why we're focused on the one method with its 3 or 4 steps we linked. [Confession] My bad, I forgot to mention as is often covered in the threads - CWM flashing the zip took me a few (4) retries. I only backed up as far as 'select update from sdcard' for each retry, all within the same recovery session. Maybe this will help?

It wasn't the steps ther were wrong. It was superuser that was wrong. I tried and tried with 2 different ones and nothing. Then I found another version that worked on the first attempt. The versions I tried first worked on 2.3.5, but not on 4.0.4.
I'm attaching the one I found that worked the first time. I tried the others about 20 times each and nothing, but they worked before. I haven't read anywhere that there are different versions of superuser that only root certain builds. I found it out the hard way.
If i can remember "SOME" superuser zips need to be flashed a few times before they flash successfully.

Thanks. I have read that, and that it works sometimes when it says it fails. The problem was that there are a few versions of superuser. I had two that worked on previous versions of android, like 2.3.6, but they won't work on 4.0.4. I found a different one named. "Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed" that worked first time. I tried the others more than enough. They don't work on 4.0.4. It's funny no one has mentioned this before.
Let's be clear.

I had the older zip too, but it was all properly instructed in our [Dev] thread. Copperhed posted 'This will root 2.3.5 or 2.3.6' for an earlier Superuser.zip last November, linked in InSaiyanone's excellent all-in-one guide.
Needing to root 4.0.4 would lead us to the next stickie, where projeqht linked
Starskyrob's 'Step 2: Flash Attached zip from recovery.' in his [GUIDE]{ROOT}How To Root The ICS Leak, posted March 28th, referring to the zip you and I succeeded with. I think anyone reading the stickies should find the same guidance.

[Q] Applying VZW system update on rooted, unlocked SG3

I have a rooted, unlocked SG3 running stock ROM and as of a couple weeks ago, continue to get prompted to install the OTA update (VRAGL7 I believe). Unsurprisingly the install fails when I try to apply it.
My question is, do I have to restore in order to apply this update? And if so, is it possible to instead defer the update indefinitely (since I dont want to restore and there doesnt appear to be anything useful in this update according to their site).
Im also sure someone else must have asked this before, but after browsing the last few pages and searching, I couldnt find anything. Feel free to direct me to a previous response if I missed it.
Thanks in advance!
This has been covered numerous times, but, here you go. If you want to take the update, lock your bootloader, Odin back to stock, take the OTA update, reroot, unlock, etc.
If you don't want to do that, freeze SDM 1.0 with Titanium and the message will stop. One thing though, you will not be able to update OTA until you restore SDM. Which, you shouldn't be updating a rooted phone to begin with unless you want a world of problems.
Good luck!

Make sure that you read it and pay attention very carefully. I tried to do the same exact thing and had problems. Had to Odin back to stock. I think my problem was that I was running a custom kernel. Anyway I got the unauthorized software message and could only get into stock recovery and download mode.

Atrix 2 ICS update failed

Hello, I'm new to these forums and I have tried to find a helpful answer to my issue but cannot, so here it goes. I have an Atrix 2 thats running Android 2.3.6, the phone was rooted with SuperOneClick last year. I updated to 2.3.6 OTA and had no problems at all. The ICS update is out I cannot get it OTA. I can download the update then the phone restarts, it appears to start installing but then stops and a triangle with "!" appears and the phone restarts. Once the phone restarts it says "Update Failed".
I have seen several others with the same issue but I do not understand how to fix it. And I am not sure if my stock ROM has been modified either.
I would greatly appreciate some help, I don't understand what I've done wrong here, Motorola says its because the phone is rooted, I've un-rooted it with no luck...

usually updates fail when bloatware or some other stock apps are removed. I believe the best way to get ICS on your phone is by flashing FXZ. But first we need more info about your Atrix 2. Is it an AT&T branded one?

You do NOT use odin on moto phones.
Please take a look here, it will explain all of the ins and outs that you need to know.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
Updating to ICS on an AT&T phone even without the bloatware is very easy, just flash the ICS FXZ for AT&T, using the latest version of RSD lite.
AT&T ICS FXZ:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/InlineFlashing_Edison_67.21.125_CFC_P3_APBP.xml.zip
You will need to find RSD lite from moto on your own though, as it has been posted in the dev section a few times, and we do not usually link to the moto site since they are like nazi's over there about XDA.

You will need to find RSD lite from moto on your own though, as it has been posted in the dev section a few times, and we do not usually link to the moto site since they are like nazi's over there about XDA.

Agreed on the Mot-azi. Im banning them after my next upgrade. A bunch of pigs they are.
On a much more positive note, thank you for making it easy. Ive been away from the android community for the last few years, but man has it grown! Im lovin it. Now only if we could get some better suport from the big app companies.
Has ubuntu ever been attempted in the atrix 2? Now that would be marvelous!

I have it running on my "dev phone" (Galaxy Nexus) right now, and it is nice, but a ton of things are not working yet, so I would not advise trying out just yet. I will try and get it working for the A2 in time, but a few things need be addressed first, mainly that it takes 500+MB of /system space, and the A2 is limited to 475MB in /system, so.... in getting it working, it is a meld between CM10.1 and the ubuntu UI on top of the CM 10.1 device files and drivers, but... to get the 100% real thing ported, will probably not be possible since the a2 has a locked bootloader, and the boot.img is very important to the ubuntu phone os, so.... we will see as time goes on, if I and others in here can get working on the a2 in at least the hybrid with cm10.1 format.
Also you do know that the webtop included with the A2 in 2.3 is ubuntu, right? I have a hack to get all the ubuntu stuff running in webtop, if that is something you might be interested in, but it does not work in ICS. That is why I stayed on leak 1 and never went to the official ICS version, so I could go back to GB for webtop when needed.

I updated mine the day it came out and I had a terrible time with it. The FXZ was not available at the time so I had ATT give me replacement phone. I used 2.3.6 for a little while, then I updated it again. This time though I did a factory reset before updating and everything went great. So I'd recommend doing a factory reset before updating and maybe you will have better luck. Or do as Jim suggested and flash the update yourself with RSDLite.

usually updates fail when bloatware or some other stock apps are removed. I believe the best way to get ICS on your phone is by flashing FXZ. But first we need more info about your Atrix 2. Is it an AT&T branded one?

Yes mine is ATT branded and yes I have removed all the att bloatware with Root Uninstaller once I rooted it.
I honestly don't care what pigs motorola are, I just asked about getting my phone to ICS because I keep getting the update failed message.

Yeah, I have already done a factory reset. Still can't get the OTA update to work. So my only option looks like I need to flash it myself.
One other thing that's completely off subject, One thing I don't like about this forum there are too many restrictions regarding spam...although I understand it needs to be completely filtered and not allowed the admins have too many restrictions on this forum. Why should there be a restriction were a new user has to wait 5 minutes between posts? That makes absolutely no since. (BTW thanks to the admins for the 5 minutes between posts I had to kill, I got to mention this)

As long as it's an ICS FXZ, then yes.

I guess you did some tweaks with it like installing CWM. You remove it and files associated with it, you can take update OTA with no probs (i was through it and finally could take the update like a noob ). An fxz would be a much easier choice.

No, RSD is not showing its connected. This error occurs before I even open RSD lite, I have tried opening RSD and then connecting the phone still windows keeps looking for drivers that it never finds.

Maybe uninstall/reinstall the Moto drivers. Also, which version of RSD lite are you using? I think 6 or greater is recommended.

[Q] Which root to use for my 4.1.2 phone

I haven't been on XDA in an incredible amount of time and want to get back into the swing of things. Currently I can only find root guides for phones that are on a different android version than my GS3. It's been awhile, so forgive me if I have said anything that doesn't make sense.

There's nothing in this procedure about wiping and that may be what went wrong when I used it? Please comment those who know...Also to let you know; I updated to 4.1.2 and got soft bricked. I tried the guide again and couldn't find enough information on how to make the recovery work, where to place the recovery, etc. Couldn't get a reply to pleas for help.. ended up doing a factory reset from the dead recovery image and am now in 4.1.1. Maybe I can root from here. But since my only rooting experience before this was Droid and easy I'd like some help. Not sure where to get it.If my postings are a pain its because I'm a bit freaked by the difficulty of rooting this device.
You can try this. If you want to take a ota after flashing install ota rootkeeper...read all the directions to temp unroot and regain root after update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436
The posted 4.1.2 file is not a stock file it was a leak. Use 4.1.1 K3.....follow the directions in the thread.
