[Q] Metamorph Made Notification Bar Dissappear - Motorola Atrix 2

A few months ago I used Metamorph to edit my notification bar, and after the reboot, it dissappeared. After looking around the forums, it seemed the best way to fix the issue was to flash the stock rom, as I did (twice), with no prevail. I then thought it might be possible to flash the atrix superROM (something like that) and it installed superuser.apk to the root directory but didn't root the system. The problem with this is that I am now not able to root my atrix 2 because it cannot overwrite the Superuser.apk installed in the root file. I will accept any answer that either roots my phone or enables my statusbar, because that is the priority.
P.S. I have been waiting for another update to roll around, thinking that might fix the problem, but there has not been one for 4 months or so, and I am getting impatient.
Also, I am not new to these forums; I am just a reader, not a poster.

Sounds like you need to start over. Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
Use the directions in here to flash back to bone stock with the fxz method. After that, you should be fine to reroot.

Thanks, I remember looking for a 2.3.5 rom a while back but I couldn't find it. I'll try that when I get to my computer on Friday and I'll post back if anything goes wrong!

That's the key! I had to flash fxz 2.3.5 then OTA update to 2.3.6 and re-root. Worked like a charm. Not sure that including the superuser.apk file in root of fxz file actually roots, since there are certain exploits from the root file that need to take place.

Sweet, more confirmation! I can't wait to get home to fix this! Finally I don't have to open the phone [app?] to answer a call and I can see what that random notifocation ringtone is for without looking at every app.

??? Not sure what you mean man?
After you get back to 2.3.6 stock, Just re root. If you root with a one click method, a lot of those push superuser for you.
The link above gives you two methods of how to reroot. Just follow the instructions and you should be fine.

Without a statusbar when you get a call it doesn't automatically go to the call when you turn the screen on, I have to navigate my way to the phone while it's ringing. Hope that explains it.

LOL, gotcha. Yah that would suck big time.
Oh and FYI seems as though both the links to the stock FXZ are down, but you can get it HERE.

Late reply, but it worked! Ice Cream Sandwich, here I come!

Glad to see you got it fixed...just a tip, before you make any changes like changing the status bar, make a Nandroid Backup of your phone BEFORE you make the changes. With the Nandroid backup, if something goes wrong you can just restore the backup and you should be back to the same configuration before the mod. Just a tip...

Rooted???

I'm having a really hard time with the rooting of this phone ... I can't get the update.zip to wrk. All it does is starts to unpack the files then goes to a screen with a triangle over the android guy then I have to do a battery pull !!! I keep reading and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong

Get z4root off here and run it. It will hang up the first time. Pull the battery and restart your phone. Then run z4root again. This time it will root your phone.

I've tried it it hangs everytime even after a battery pull

You need to be more specific, there are different steps to take if you're working from 2.1-update1 or 2.2, sounds to me like you're following steps for customizing 2.1-update1 when you should be upgrading to 2.2, check out the link in my signature - should be pretty helpful...

This would be if you're trying to root from 2.1-update1
just use super one click, it is more reliable i have found.
and i had the same issue with the screen sitting at the android guy with exclamation point.
if you hit the home button again i believe the screen comes back and you can see the messages and the recovery menu.
I'm running 2.2 .... No the home key didn't take me back to recovery had to battery pull each time...I used super one click and it said it was successful but I'm not seeing that I have anymore control or access to stuff!!!

And this is why it's important to ask questions before ANSWERING, when you're not sure of what the poster is actually trying to do.
Ignotno, go back and re-read the original thread for the 2.2 leak, it comes pre-rooted so you shouldn't have to do anything. If you're having problems with root, then you should try superoneclick (as noted above).
You're following processes for customizing a stock 2.1-update1 phone, you should go back to my newbie guide and read the steps for customizing 2.2.

rooting doesnt open up a magic door with all kinds of cool stuff.
Rooting just unlocks the door, you need to open it and do all the cool stuff.
download a tool call Quickreboot from the market.
open it and choose REBOOT
it should ask you for Superuser permission.
tell it yes, and the phone should reboot.
if it tells you you dont have root permission then you are not rooted yet
if it works then you have been rooted and you are probably trying to root the 2.2 rom via the 2.1 method and i do not know if that works.
download the prerooted 2.2 and flash it via odin.
it is already rooted and you do not have to do anything else.

This made me laugh... mostly because when I first started looking at rooting I also thought it would magically make my phone amazing
And just to add a quick point; you would also know you have Root Access if the SuperUser application appears in your application drawer...
Glad I can make you chuckle... yes I did notice it and as far as its concerned does nothing on my phone that I see

It doesn't "do" anything per-say, what it does is stores the names of programs which you have given superuser access (once you've done so)
The easiest way to test is (as stated above) to download some sort of ROOT app (root explorer, quick boot, etc.) and when you run them for the first time you should get a screen asking permission for the superuser access, once given this access it has read/write access to your system files (that's basically all root is).
You'll want to do a lot of reading on the forums before you attempt using any of these themes/mods/roms as you'll want a better understanding of the process before you get started.
Nice comment thank you ... You clarified alot abig help.. Yes it is rooted all is well it hangs once while, if I try doing to much!

Since you're rooted (and sounds that you're still on stock 2.2 framework) I would suggest getting the EA11 clockwork recovery installed (if you haven't)
then go over and flash the pick and pack EA11 rom (this is the stock 2.2 framework with all of the bloat programs removed, and i'ts deodexed so that you can then flash theme's over it to customize the appearance)
After you have pnp i would then flash the new EA11 Voodoo kernel (This is a system mod that changes the EXT storage system, which in turn speeds up the phone and saves a little battery life for being faster.) This will fix your hang problems (once you actually enable Voodoo lagfix through the recovery menu) instruction is all posted in threads on the forums here, refer to my newbie guide if needed (link in my signature.)
After that take a look at the EA11 themes you have to choose from, if you're interested in changing appearance.
Good luck!

[Q] stuck on splash screen, please help!

im new at this please bear with me.
i rooted my shift last week. everything was fine, im not ready to get too crazy into flashing stuff yet (since the risk for bricking is higher with android). i like to take my time read, study, test small things here and there.
today i was browsing the forums and came across the battery icon mod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892297
so i downloaded it, i had rom manager installed, and installed the battery icon manager.
i chose the icon i wanted rebooted, it looked ok, so i wanted to try the other icon and loaded that one, phone rebooted and got stuck on the sprint splash screen.
i can boot into the bootloader, not sure what steps i need to take next to restore my os.

Boot in to CWM Recovery go to backup/restore /advanced restore, select restore /system only. Once that is complete clear the cache, reboot. you can then delete your dalvik cache (note: clearing the dalvik cache doesn't work via CWM currently). That's it.
If you didn't make a back up, just re flash the rom. If you were still stock, just flash preludedrew's or nfinitefx's base. You can even still keep your data. Just make sure from now on to back up before doing any mods.

Easy 'nuff. Download FB's KD1 one-click ROM.
Make sure the phone is plugged into the PC, put your phone in download mode (check the wiki link in my signature), and double-click the ROM you just downloaded (it's a jar file which is a Java file). If you have Java installed (most people do) then it should "just work."
WARNING: You will lose all of your data, apps, contacts, etc (but not stuff on your sdcard). Make sure you have a backup of things you want to keep (if you're synching your contacts with T-Mobile or Google, you'll get 'em back), then install the ROM.
Problem! It booted but now its a black screen! Bricked?

Go grab bhundven's Fully Back-To-Stock ROM. It is also a Heimdall one-click but will put you back on stock KJ6 GB.
Quick question - were you on stock KJ6 before? If not, did you have CWM installed and was voodoo enabled?

[Q] Return AT&T Atrix 2 to Stock (2.3.6)?

I am having the same problem with Contacts and with process com.motorola.contacts force closing that many others are having. I had rooted as well as uninstalled bloatware (instead of freezing, yes, I know!). Tried unrooting, reinstalling Yahoo and AT&T apps as suggested, factory resets, everything. Contacts still acts the same; that is, I can get to it but can't edit individual contacts nor get to Contacts Storage. I think it must have something to do with AT&T Address Book, which won't reinstall (says not supported but was there before).
At this point I just want to return Atrix 2 to its stock, 2.3.6 configuration and start all over. Can anyone help me, or is that not "out" yet?
Follow the instructions on flashing the 2.3.5 FXZ listed here (the beginner's guide) and then use the OTA update to get to 2.3.6. Next time make a CWM backup before you try any ROMs! It is inevitable that you'll eventually get stuck in some sort of boot loop.

It's alot easier than it sounds....and im no pro. I was able to successfully flash 2.3.5 to mine that way the first time around following the instructions in the noob thread.
Atrix 2//RebelROM//Tapatalk 2
so let me get this straight....
I had 2.3.5 rooted. I accepted the OTA update to 2.3.6, so naturally, it un-rooted me, although the superuser is still there. I tried the one click method for 2.3.6 after it came out, as I am a total NOOB and was afraid to try it and screw things up. That doesn't work. I tried to unroot it using the same method. Also didn't work. The superuser is still there and denying permissions.
Soooooooo, I have decided to do the FXZ method in the in the noob/general forum. I'm still unclear and afraid about how to do it. Am I supposed to go through the first 11 steps, then do the "replace" step that is added as a note? Speaking of the added note. It says to "move all the the items in it to the stock fxz". The "stock FXZ" is what i downloaded and did in step 1-11, right? I have searched the forums and this was the best place I could see to ask. Sorry for my extreme NOOBness.
Thanks in advance for helping, or just taking the timpe to read my post!

[Q] Applying VZW system update on rooted, unlocked SG3

I have a rooted, unlocked SG3 running stock ROM and as of a couple weeks ago, continue to get prompted to install the OTA update (VRAGL7 I believe). Unsurprisingly the install fails when I try to apply it.
My question is, do I have to restore in order to apply this update? And if so, is it possible to instead defer the update indefinitely (since I dont want to restore and there doesnt appear to be anything useful in this update according to their site).
Im also sure someone else must have asked this before, but after browsing the last few pages and searching, I couldnt find anything. Feel free to direct me to a previous response if I missed it.
Thanks in advance!
This has been covered numerous times, but, here you go. If you want to take the update, lock your bootloader, Odin back to stock, take the OTA update, reroot, unlock, etc.
If you don't want to do that, freeze SDM 1.0 with Titanium and the message will stop. One thing though, you will not be able to update OTA until you restore SDM. Which, you shouldn't be updating a rooted phone to begin with unless you want a world of problems.
Good luck!

So to be clear, absolutely no way to apply the update without going back to stock first, correct?
Sorry for posting up whats probably been asked 100 times, but really couldnt track it down with a search and browse of the last few pages.

I did not have to do all that...
I used Mobile Odin Pro to Pre-Inject Root into the OTA Update before flashing it, then I flashed the latest modem immediately after flashing the OTA update.
I didn't lose Root or Unlocked Bootloader status..
Best part of it was... I didn't need my PC to do any of it...
The following thread is the one you should read in detail..

Perfect. Exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks again.

Make sure that you read it and pay attention very carefully. I tried to do the same exact thing and had problems. Had to Odin back to stock. I think my problem was that I was running a custom kernel. Anyway I got the unauthorized software message and could only get into stock recovery and download mode.
Guess I will read the thread myself and see where I screwed up at.
