I don' t have a cover.

Yeap, same thing here...
Arent other people facing this issue?
Even a lot of online reviews mentioned this. But i never thought the mic quality is going to be this troublesome.
I tried calling myself on an Atrix/Galaxy S/Galaxy note
I myself find the microphone quality quite cheap. It picks up the slightest of nicks and bumps but its definitely too muddy for the other persons comfort!!
The call volumes were very low on my G2 and Sensation in the past. They fixed that but messed up the microphone quality!
Seriously disappointing. Not buying a HTC device ever again!
btw. Not using a case or anything.

How is the call volume on the HOX? Is it very loud? I am thinking of purchasing the HOX phone but it needs to have a loud call volume. Thanks!

Bad earpiece sound quality?

I am very close to purchasing this phone but I am wondering about the reviews saying it has a bad earpiece sound to the point where it sounds distorted, aswell as the speaker. How is your all's experience with this?
I am choosing between a G2 and a MyTouch3g right now.

Just got off a call and it sounded fine to me. I chose the Mytouch because I realized that swype made the physical keyboard unneeded, just my two cents.
I think the earpiece sounds fine. The speakerphone is what sucks.

earpiece sounds better than my vibrant. I don't know if google voice has anything to do with that, though.

No Active Noise Cancellation?

When I got my set and open up to inspect, i realised that one of the holes on the back of Sensation doesn't have purpose at all (the hole on the right of the back speaker). This is quite saddening cuz I bought this with the expectiation that it has....
I suspect that the dual mic might be actually removed in the final release. But I read at many places that the video recording uses the secondary mic to achieve stereo audio recording. So does sensation have the secondary mic in the first place? And secondly, does the video recording have stereo sound?
What do you all think? Many reviews mentioned that noise cancellation during calls r available thou....
I managed to email HTC support and this is wad they responded,
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With reference to your query, Sensation does not support noise cancellation ability , and if you nedd high quality voice during the call, we recommend you buy a good in ear earpiece.

I would love to hear more about this issue again if anyone has more information on it.

The silence of current users means there is no noise cancellation.......
sad, thats one of the main reasons i wanted one.

With reference to your query, our current flagship premium handset does not support high quality speaker or microphone. If you plan to use your phone as phone, we recommend buying a handset thats engineered with that feature in mind.

I really like my Sensation but speaker and microphone quality does not impress. I hope custom roms will solve this.

whats with HTC and cheap speakers they use ? How hard is it to use something decent in their "state of the art" phone...
the more I read, less i want this phone, at least my HD2 is 100% unlocked and can run any OS there is....
Their official press states Dual microphones for noise suppression.

so where is the extra mic located?

well, there is stereo sound recording, so it could be using one of the microphones there.. although i'm not sure if the spacing of those mics is conducive to noise cancellation..
There are six holes on the backside of the case. Four of them appear to be used as aerials for the various radios. The hole next to the speaker seems to be unused.
I'm not sure, but the microphone appears to be on the bottom edge, adjacent the back release. Where is the second microphone, or are thye combined in one module?
If they are combined I doubt they would work for noise cancelling...

the US version has another antenna contact with the hole by the speaker grill
What about the hole above the back camera? What is that used for?

That's the other microphone. Pretty easy to see if you pull the phone out of the shell. Every other hole doesn't seem to go anywhere, the one above the camera has a little gasket on the device-side.
Ism if anybody stated this yet Liz in too lazy to read them.
The holes on the back ate just where the rivets were located for.the intenna. Nice is on the bottom only

Loved my HD2 too, but the Sensation makes it look like a Model T once you get it in your hand. Don't deny yourself my friend, the Sensation is the sh**!

So guys since it had been confirmed that there is a Mike above the back Canberra, it means that there is active cancellation
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Ok.. So I believe that secondary mic is present... For the stereo recording at least..
But during calls, it really doesn't sound like active noise cancellation.. I've used Nexus one & S2, their noise cancellation works very well even on a busy street...
I mean I still love this phone but just a bit disappointed with some hardware aspects..

How is the call quality for you?

It may be the speaker but when the volume in call was all the way up it was crackley. (sp?) I ended up getting another one, and it seemed a little better but my htc g2 still had better call quality. Anyone else have this problem? I ended up switching to the amaze mainly because both sensations got dust under the screen, but my amaze doesn't have wifi calling "yet" as from what I've heard. And I need wifi calling. But in call quality is crystal clear.
How's yours?
I haven't had that issue. Do you have any audio boosters like Volume+ installed?
no nothing. I actually had nothing downloaded before using the phone and seeing this. I actually just made another thread because where I live I need wifi calling and love the sensation but I do not want dust or bad call quality.

Voice call quality

Hi guys, so far love the phone, came from a GSII.
My concern is that people are complaining that the voice quality on the call recipient's end is robotic and muddy sounding. They often complain that they can barely hear me or make out what i am saying. I am not calling them from a noisey environment, it is from a quiet room.
Anyone else??
after 174 views, no one can confirm or deny the same issue? Can anyone please comment on call quality?
Nobody's mentioned it to me yet, and I've made quite a few calls. I'd use the land line and call myself, but that's one of those psychological things where I'd be biased that my own voice either A) sounds like **** or B)sounds perfectly normal.
No issues here, I've only made a handful of calls but so far no one has complained.

Some more people commented/complained today saying it sounds like my mouth is directly on the microphone and thus makes my voice sound unclear. never had this complaint with my gsII
No complaints here I think the quality's really good

I received my replacement one s due to call quality issues and the new one is even worse. everyone says i sound like im in a tin can as my voice is SUPER muffled. they can hear when i start and stop talking but the words just arent sharp enough to hear anything. wtf is going on with this phone?
I'm actually experiencing this with mine on Telus. It's especially noticable when it's on speakerphone. Never had any issues with my previous phones, but with this one I have to repeat myself a whole lot.
No issues on Tmob us.
I have issues sometimes hearing the caller on the end - the audio is distorted and robotic even when I have full bars. Did not have any issues on my old phone.
If I turn down the volume it helps with the distortion so it definitely seems to be from the device itself.
Are you using a case? I had a few complaints when I was using D3 case. Mic was so deep in little hole in case. Since I have switched to a Cruzerlite case( best and slimmest One S case of all!) all is well and have had zero complaints.

Case or no case, makes no difference. It's quite infuriating. I'm on my second phone and it exhibits the same problems.
My fiancee just got this phone a few days ago and I've noticed her voice sounds scratchy and robotic when I talk to her. Her previous 3 phones never did this. Sometimes her One-S even drops the call when she has 2 and 3 bars of signal which is really odd. We are taking the phone back Monday to see if we can either exchange it for another one or get another phone.
I thought I read somewhere that this phone uses some new technology that reduces background noise and I'm wondering if perhaps the sound quality is a software issue.
I have the same issue, but only if i am holding the phone on my left ear with my shoulder. No issues on right side.
The only issue I have is the voice on the other end is more quiet and I have to ask to repeat (even though the volume is turned up high to hear the other party).

I've had this issue with most of the T-Mobile phones(G1,HD2,MT3GS,MT4G,MT4GS,One S) I have had. I always assumed that it was an issue with the network.
My issue is when I squeeze the phone between my cheek and shoulder, people cant even understand me. I've never had an issue like this with another phone.
Noise while calling
Are you on Wifi only calling mode? It can happen when the Wifi speed is low!
How about the EU radio? Anyone on tmous using that and still having probs?

[Q] Strange Audio rattle during phone calls

Hello,
Just got my nexus 5 and my called someone, and with the volume all the way up, there is a strange... rattle when people speak, especially women at a higher pitched voice. It didn't happen at all on the Galaxy 4 i just traded in.
Its hard to explain, like maybe a blown speaker or damaged speaker... Does anyone else get crappy quality calls when the volume is all the way up? I can completely hear the voices on the other end, just rattles at high volumes.
This doesnt happen on speaker phone.
Thanks!

May be a network issue
If it's same for all the calls then it's a problem with your device.
