When I got my set and open up to inspect, i realised that one of the holes on the back of Sensation doesn't have purpose at all (the hole on the right of the back speaker). This is quite saddening cuz I bought this with the expectiation that it has....
I suspect that the dual mic might be actually removed in the final release. But I read at many places that the video recording uses the secondary mic to achieve stereo audio recording. So does sensation have the secondary mic in the first place? And secondly, does the video recording have stereo sound?
What do you all think? Many reviews mentioned that noise cancellation during calls r available thou....
I managed to email HTC support and this is wad they responded,

I really like my Sensation but speaker and microphone quality does not impress. I hope custom roms will solve this.

whats with HTC and cheap speakers they use ? How hard is it to use something decent in their "state of the art" phone...
the more I read, less i want this phone, at least my HD2 is 100% unlocked and can run any OS there is....
Their official press states Dual microphones for noise suppression.

so where is the extra mic located?

well, there is stereo sound recording, so it could be using one of the microphones there.. although i'm not sure if the spacing of those mics is conducive to noise cancellation..
There are six holes on the backside of the case. Four of them appear to be used as aerials for the various radios. The hole next to the speaker seems to be unused.
I'm not sure, but the microphone appears to be on the bottom edge, adjacent the back release. Where is the second microphone, or are thye combined in one module?
If they are combined I doubt they would work for noise cancelling...

the US version has another antenna contact with the hole by the speaker grill
What about the hole above the back camera? What is that used for?

That's the other microphone. Pretty easy to see if you pull the phone out of the shell. Every other hole doesn't seem to go anywhere, the one above the camera has a little gasket on the device-side.
Ism if anybody stated this yet Liz in too lazy to read them.
The holes on the back ate just where the rivets were located for.the intenna. Nice is on the bottom only

Loved my HD2 too, but the Sensation makes it look like a Model T once you get it in your hand. Don't deny yourself my friend, the Sensation is the sh**!

So guys since it had been confirmed that there is a Mike above the back Canberra, it means that there is active cancellation
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Ok.. So I believe that secondary mic is present... For the stereo recording at least..
But during calls, it really doesn't sound like active noise cancellation.. I've used Nexus one & S2, their noise cancellation works very well even on a busy street...
I mean I still love this phone but just a bit disappointed with some hardware aspects..

Since none of the initial specs and hands on reviews have mentioned it, I'm guessing that the G2x doesn't have the noise cancellation feature that the Nexus One does. But it'd be nice to get confirmation. So, does this phone have a noise cancellation feature?
I have it in my hands now and it doesn't have noise cancellation. Call quality is excellent though.

if you don't mind me asking how is the camera quality? Are the whites and colors pretty accurate?
thanks
They are pretty accurate but sometimes the colors look a little washed out. I'd give the camera a 7 out of 10. Its just as good most cell phones.
what about gps?
GPS is fine

I find it slow to lock and has a tendency to jump around on my unit. For instance .4 miles(I know itis exactly that) comes out 7.2 etc. This is in Cardio trainer. I also find that certain apps like GPS test plus do not function quite right. I have had one hang up in Cardio trainer already and I have only had the phone for 15 hours. Also while on the line with CS I had weird noises in the line while speaking with them and they even called me back with same result. Haves no idea what that is all aboiut. All in all though I do like the phone.
Hi im new to the sensation.
I just bought a sensation and i was happy about a good deal.
But later on when i tested the phone i did notice one problem,
the phones front speaker is makeing a crackled/annoying sound during calls.
I have a hard time hearing people some times, i did read some threads about people having this problem. But nothing that actually helped me, some say they flashed a new rom and all solved and some say they took the plastic or something from the speaker. Anyone here that had this problem and has just simply replaced the speaker, and then if it has worked like charm efter?
//Virtualxp
You could download an RUU which is official htc. Run it and if it fixes problem, great, if not, RMA
What is ruu and Rma? What do they stand for?

Rom Update Utility and Return Material Authorization. Google is your friend.
Ok so i tried Skype after reading some, and the sound in skype was pretty good didn't notice the crackled so much sound there. I have made a hard reset but that didn't solve it, took the backcase off and polished the the copper plate that pushed into the holder of the simcard and that made the sound better to. Could it maybe be the back case? someone with a idea =)?

Hello all I have a problem. no matter who I call Im told my voice sounds muffled. This is a stock phone. nothing changed. I did a hard reset but still have problem. Any suggestion?

Yeap, same thing here...
Arent other people facing this issue?
Even a lot of online reviews mentioned this. But i never thought the mic quality is going to be this troublesome.
I tried calling myself on an Atrix/Galaxy S/Galaxy note
I myself find the microphone quality quite cheap. It picks up the slightest of nicks and bumps but its definitely too muddy for the other persons comfort!!
The call volumes were very low on my G2 and Sensation in the past. They fixed that but messed up the microphone quality!
Seriously disappointing. Not buying a HTC device ever again!
btw. Not using a case or anything.

Ive had my RAZR HD for just over a month. It first started with a slight buzz in the earpiece and the last couple of days the speaker completely blew up...everything sounds distorted. I have to turn it to like a 1/4 volume to make it sound normal, at which point I can't hear anything since it's too quite. This is where I'm screwed. I bought the phone outright from Rogers here in Canada and I use it on a Fido network. Since I bought it from Rogers and I don't have an account they won't deal with the warranty. I was told to call Motorola....now I'm supposed to send my phone away to them and it will take 5-10 business days for them to fix it....that's like 2 weeks....not sure what I'm supposed to use in the mean time...
I would rather just pay for someone to fix it since I need my phone for work...don't want to buy another one since I just spent over $600 on this one....but apparently there is no parts available for these yet. I came across this website
etradesupply.com/oem-motorola-droid-razr-hd-xt925-ear-speaker-flex-cable-ribbon.html (I'm not allowed to post a link so just add the www to the beginning )
Anyone ever order from them? Is this the part I need?? Also does anyone have any idea how hard would it be to replace the earpiece speaker? Thanks in advance for any info.

The part you linked is just the connecting cable for everything. If it is the problem, it is because one of the ribbon connections is not making good contact which should be able to be fixed by reseating the cable. I would say the phone needs tore down first before ordering anything to check the connection points. The problem is with the front earpiece and not the speakerphone speaker on the back, right?
Yes the earpiece speaker not the loud speaker...are you sure the earpiece speaker is not built into that part??...I looked at the images and it looked like the speaker was part of it.
Has anyone done a write up on teardown of the phone?? I remember I read a post somewhere where a guy did it and said you just undo the 2 screws at the bottom and then push up on the screen...apparently everything is connected to the battery cover on this phone...but before I would attempt this I would like to see a write up, orderly preferably with pictures....and I can't find one...

I was the one that did the tear down on my phone. I am in the process of moving right now. If no one else has down a write up on the teardown within a few weeks, I will do a full step-by-step with pictures.

Hey guys, so I've been searching and searching for a fix for this darned low in call volume either from headset or from speaker.
Well after some time of searching I came across a confirmed solution.
I know it sounds weird... But if you take a toothbrush and use the tip on the speakers grills it clears the debris from the speakers and therfore increase volume. I just tried it on my phone and it MAJORLY increased in call volume AND speaker volume (if you clean the rear speaker grill too).
It worked for me so I had to share it. I take no credit for the fix.
Give it a shot and post results.
For your next trick, explain to us how clearing debris from the speakers on the device could possibly help low volume coming from a headset.

I think im confusing you. would "Earpiece" be a better word? the part that you hold your ear to when youre talking on the phone. theres a bunch of little holes right there. clean that part with the bristles of a toothbrush because theyre small enough to fit in the holes and they dont damage anything. ther'es also a set of holes on the back of the phone where the main "speaker" is. you could use the same method on those.
but i mean, my bad for trying to be helpful

Maybe just maybe dust particles can clog the speaker holes. Thus blocking sound from coming through.
You ever think of that?

Your issue might be with the software. What Rom are you running? Also what sound mods if any? I know that they like to interfere. I know I had to really make sure the bristles were getting in to the holes and once I did that debris started to come out. Maybe that helps

Electric toothbrush did the trick for me. Who would have thought!
I just did this, all I have to say is, thank you. My girlfriend was ready to kill me every time I called because i would make her repeat herself constantly.
I tried compressed air first and it seemed to help a little, then I took a clean new toothbrush and "picked" at the speaker holes with the bristles. I was amazed to see all this dust piling up on the screen as it came out. I used to have my volume maxed and any background noise would drown out someone on the line (car was impossible), now I can turn the volume down 4 notches and hear everyone just fine.
I like the idea of electric, some vibration to knock things loose, might try that next time.
Thanks for the idea!
Geeeeeez I picked and picked with the toothbrush. As posted above dirt was flinging all over the screen and back panel. So I took my vaccum extension and would suck it directly over the grilles.. it improved volume by 200% probably. Something I've been complaining about for months, I've skipped over and it took me 5 minutes to improve

HTC ONE M8 call volume
Hi guys,
I did a soft reset and this seemed to have fixed the problem.
Soft reset doesnt delete any data as a factory reset would,
To perform this - Hold and press the Power Button & Volume Up key. The phone will restart.
Good luck!
Is there any solution for low speaker volume ? any suggestion will be appreciated.
