SD increase IT
Note: FreeX10 beta4 users have reported it working but the "auto run" does not.
Allows basic adjustments to the SD buffer.
from 128KB to 3MB
This severely boost's SD read rates.
And is alot simpler that having to manually run and configure scripts.
Does exactly the same as the SD speed boost hack.
Has auto run option.
I didn't make the app.
If you have a problem there is another app that may work for you..
But is only available on the market for a few bucks
SD speed boost

I prefer SD speed boost.
It may work for you.
I posted this one cuz it's freeware.
and works for me.
If it does not work for you use the script.
Enjoy
Just tried it and it's running fine
Haven't rebooted buy still should be fine

can you post more detail about the APK ?
What else can i say?
It... it works.
Aliens eat warm brains...
space and time is infinitely curved..
Thanks but the set on boot option doesn't seem to work on FreeX10 beta4
..double post..
I tried, and there's no difference for me
Working well here. Set on reboot is fine too.
Running on 435 with bb58.
It works on FreeX10 beta4, but as above it doesn't remember your settings after a restart.

that's because there's a difference between 2.1 and 2.2. sd increase it will work on 2.2, but not 2.1. this will work on 2.1, but not 2.2.
the best bet is to use the script i posted 2 weeks ago.

No it works just like "flash fire" http://flashfire.org/xe/
Tried and tested micro cache.
It severely eases the stress of the SD
but "sd speed" testing app is not built to test this kind of setup.
data2SD that gives you a BS score.

so it works, but no? or does it not work, but yes?
increasing cache increases performance, period. it's not a "false" performance boost. if it didn't work, hard drives would not have gone from 8mb of cache to 64mb in 4 years and write ahead would not be an option.

That's not the point. The point is you said the sd speed boost, manual script or app, was pointless and gave false results.

No i said the app used to test the speed is flawed.
As it was not designed to test this kind of setup.
It can't give you a 99% accurate reading cuz of the buffer.

how is it not designed to test this set up? all it tests is the read/write transfer rate to/from the sd card. cache or not, should not make a difference.

Due to the way the cache handles data.
It's now actually testing the cache, instead of the SD, the SD just hinders the cache's performance.
If the test was longer "a larger test file" was used then you would get dramatically different read speeds as the cache becomes filled
and the true SD performance becomes evident under stress!.
This **** is logic to me.. not even worth it to explain, consider yourself lucky.

IIRC, there is a mod to use either a partition or a file on your MicroSD card for SWAP space... which is basically where programs that normally reside in ram would go when not in use... think its one by sparksco...
however, I dont see hardly any kernels with it built in these days... its a GOD SEND on my HD2 and Hero... Id love to use SWAP partition on all my devices...
hope someone more knowledgeable about whats out will reply
First this is the wrong thread for questions and answers.
And yes we have a few kernals that allow swap. But the rom as well needs to have that available from what I recall. Think cm uses 128 max though. I know there is a miui rom that uses swap here too. Does come in handy. You will need to reformat your sd card for swap if your going to use it. There is also ext3 and 4 and that acts like available storage space for your phone. I would only use 1-1.5 gb for that though. Some of these big games only want to go on your sd card.

One of our biggest supporters of swap has actually decided it's not such a good idea.
And it does not speed things up. It slows things down. Even with a class 10 sd card.

I was using swap for quite some time and it seemed to work really well for awhile and then started to cause my phone a lot of lock-ups after awhile. I think it was just eating up my sdcard too much. And it has been proven that swap wears on your sdcard quite a bit. I don't think it's worth it. There's a script made by Darkky that patches memory leaks in roms that seems to work good. I include these in a lot of roms and my memory always stays above 80mb.

What people fail to understand is that SWAP or fake ram is INHERENTLY IOPS sensitive... that being said, NONE of the Class 10 MicroSD cards have had ANYWHERE NEAR good enough IOPS for SWAP intensive operations... On my HD2 I went through testing 10 MicroSD cards of different Class's and sizes to find out which gave me the best performance while using SWAP and what gave me the best IOPS, Sadly, out of them all, only a Class 4 and Class 6, where anywhere decent enough to be good enough to function as SWAP devices... I mean 4 other ones worked... but you could tell with these 2....

It makes perfect sense... lets take game files from an SSD and transfer them to a HDD... while RAM and MicroSD both use NAND/Flash memory, its still a medium transfer as well! ERGO if you have a crappy IOPS MicroSD card, your going to notice slowdowns and wait times while things in RAM are swapped out to SWAP and vice versa... I guess the best comparison is using the SLEEP function on Windows 7 VS the Hibernation function...

yeah SWAP eats the CRAP out of your MicroSD card... proven fact... HOWEVER, if your like me, 8GB and 16GB cards are rather cheep these days, I totally dont mind spending $10-30 every 6~ months buying a new MicroSD card if it keeps my OLD device speedy... (pun intended)
I got a link around here that I posted somewhere with like 4-6 different MicroSD test run results... will edit this post and link it later...
Oh, and yeah, this belongs in Q&A... but I cant blame you... its a legacy device... and I only visit the Android development section for any device I use... :X
EDIT1: "halrulez" my HD2 running on the NIGHTLY CM7 builds has ZERO problems using/utilizing my 1GB SWAP partition... its all kernel/romsetup based...
EDIT2: some things I thought I should point out after I re-read my own post... in the Windows Sleep V Hibernation statement, when in Sleep, the RAM is kept on, and thus requires no loading time, in Hibernation, RAM is stored on the HDD/SSD and must be transferred back onto RAM before it will boot... I also forgot that I backup my MicroSD's contents with Dropbox and Box software, as well as backup's that are performed whenever I plugin my Phone or MicroSD to my desktop or laptop...
There are apps like juwe11's ram app, rom toolbox has a memory settings, script manager in combination with v6 supercharger script (which I highly recommend, as it helps prevent sense reloads), auto killer memory, etc. Each phone has a "brain" of it's own. My phone likes v6 or auto killer memory, but other phones like juwe11's ramscript/app. Trial and error. Good luck, and post your results if you want to.

That is a good explaintion. But personally I don't want to be the guy that releases a rom with swap already in it and get the guilt of someone's sdcard breaking. As drob311 said there's apps and other ways of making it work and my rom/kernel does still support these other ways of using it.

you do know that you can enable SWAP in a rom, but make it contained to SWAP PARTITION only? ergo if they made a SWAP partition on their MicroSD card... hence you have zero liability if said card breaks... you have to have SOME knowledge to repartition a MicroSD card properly for a SWAP partition
BTW, I fully support enabling it that way, it also leads the way to making the script for SWAP file vs partition easier because the ROM is ready for it, its just not enabled unless someone inserts the custom script OR has the proper partition for SWAP!

Yes I know. I already had a swap script for swap partition for cm7 but you need a custom cmparts.apk since cm decided to disable all swap on their roms. Plus I didn't really feel like repartitioning my sdcard once it started acting up. I'll probably just make a seperate add-on to flash over the roms for it if people want it.

im cool with that
actually, if someone can get YES/NO in CWM like on my HD2 you can put it all in the rom and they can choose right at the get-go
that being said, you can still use the custom cmparts.apk even w/o using swap partition... not that big of a conflict since if you have SWAP partition it works if not its disabled... only the functionality is present... and you dont have to maintain a separate script/package/whatever...
also, if your SDCard is acting up, use the SDCard formatter do a full format, then use HD low level format tool... or if you bought HDD Regenerator like me, its easy to find the health of your SD Media... but thats a moot matter... and im done talking for the night i think... (well the night ends in 3min... :X )

You can actually use compcache with out swapping to sd. But any swap introduces latency so it negates most gains achieved. So more apps might not get killed off as quick allowing them to reopen faster but forground apps suffer from the latency and compression.

AFAICT non of our kernels support compcache. It's a patch you have to apply to the kernel itself in order to make it work.

I was told in a thread that 128 was Max on swap but I'm always willing to try new things. I did come from my old Heroc was a great phone to first start of on, till it took a crap on me.,lol meaning my mother in law threw it in the washing machine. Then my son threw my wifes in the toilet. Was great because of the best buy protection. Loved the old device but the shift is like night and day. Don't really use the keyboard. what is all I would need to do to use more swap? I haven't had any lock UPS what so ever. Class 4 8GB btw.

Completely developed on the device for the device. Not one computer was used.
IF YOUR BATTERY LIFE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO YOU IN THE WORLD THIS MAY NOT BE FOR YOU!
Battery life hasn't been thoroughly tested and not expected to be great.
Welcome to ROM ZERO.
ZERO was developed for one purpose. SPEED! You will open apps, download, install apps, and browse the web faster than before. This rom is based on USABILITY SPEED and may not show in benchmarks. It's two totally different things. Battery life is not expected to be great but hasn't been tested so please Don't complain about your battery life. I would like some feedback on the battery life but as I said, don't expect much.
This is a stock rom lightly debloated with a few nice tweaks. I have added my yamato performance edition tweaks and some scripting in the frame buffer to help speed things up. This will give you higher frame rates in games and overall speed. Lean kernel is preloaded and completely over clocked including the GPU out of the box. There is no need to lkconfig. The GPU governor is also automatically set to performance mode. There are alot of adjustments made to this rom for speed. It's FAST.
SO WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?
De-odexed system with ODEXED apps.
Lightly debloated.
Black & white toggles.
Black status bar.
4.2 keyboard.
Menu to kill.
Holo & stock TW launchers.
Adjusted Bluetooth for quicker connections
Complete rewrite of the build.prop and included all of my HWUI settings for speed and a better visual experience.
Frame buffer speed adjustments.
Full HW rendering.
GPU over-clocked.

I'm going to guess I got a bit carried away with de-bloating. I will check it out. It's something I just never used but I will make it work. Sorry bout that!
Ok I just checked out native tethering but couldn't find any problems. What kind of issue are you having with it?

I just posted a dropbox link in the op. See if that works better for you. The original link is working fine for me though.
I can start the hotspot from the status bar on top, but when I connect to my phone, get either a Limited Connectivity error or no connection at all. I can take some screenshots when I get home if that would help, maybe the app has an error log that I can find.
Just flashed, had no issues. Everything seems nice and smooth. Its also visually very smooth. Coming from clean ROM I would say as far as "speed" at least opening apps and such Clean ROM is faster, but Zero is very fluid. No issues with lag. I havent tested much else. So far so good though. Nice work and thanks! Its been kind of quiet on the forums since the S4 came out.
Unfortunately I found an issue this morning with some of the scripts loading. This rom is currently not running as I intended it as far as speed. The update tonight will be a huge difference in performance! Sorry about the bug.
Version 1.2 released.
Fixed scripting.
This will be a noticeable improvement!
Thanks for your patience.

Well it's obviously easy enough to remove the app itself but removing the tab from the settings menu isn't something I have ever dove into yet. For me it's a bit complicated and over my head right now. I'm going to have to read up on setting tabs and learn a bit more about it. Probably in version 5.0 lol.

humm, i will try to don't use the sdcard, now i have Clokworkmod v6.0.4.4 installed and i will install the new CROMBi-kk (i always do a full wipe).
Thanks again.
EDIT:
I hate this tablet, full wipe, no sdcard, new crombi-kk, no apps, open de stock browser tap the navigator bar, try to write "www" (push all this leters in the keyboard), the tablet freeze 2-3 seconds and wrote just one "w".
In the first start (start configuration options) the tablet micro-freeze a lot.
I'm the only one to see that? i have shame to sell this tablet...

What's a " full wipe" for you?

It is not just you.
And yes it might be the worst tablet ever for that price.
I had the same issue and got it repaired, helped quite a lot to get a new mainboard.
Now it is at least usable.
Still can't compare it to my Nexus4 but at least I can browse the web
To be fair, I know this is a tough pill to swallow, but you should readjust your expectation a bit. By 2014's standard, any Tegra 3 tablets should be considered entry-level devices, so if you are expecting Nexus-like performance with 60 fps UI all the time, you will be sorely disappointed, regardless of ROMs you are on, simply because the tf700 has really slow internal storage. Having said that, running custom ROMs does make the tablet perform much better than stock and much more usable. You should just follow all the advice above and try all the ROMs/tweaks above to see if the performance of the tablet meets your expectation. If it doesn't, just sell it for a better device. The tf700 right now should be really cheap after all, I doubt that it cost you much to get your current tf700.

My tf101 just broke, really was good to me.
Saw this for $200, is it worth it?
Any other suggestions in this price range?
Gotta be 10".
I know it's old but that's OK. Gotta be faster than the 101 right?
I want to root for sure...
Thanks...

Is that including the dock? If it is, I'd say yeah - it's worth it.
If just the tablet - Newegg, Tiger Direct have the TF701 for $299
That's just 30% more for a much better tablet.

To be honest, I remember seeing quite a few people claiming that the tf101 is actually faster than the tf700 (stock vs stock comparison of course), in terms of UI rendering and general smoothness. I am sure if you Google around, you will find a few threads claiming the same thing.
Thanks

Sorry for the late recommendation, but you could try C-romiX rom with Data2SD modification. This improves the performance of the tf700 a lot! night and day difference.
OK

Class 4 is probably too slow but some class 4 cards are quick! My recommendation is stay with a uhs-1 class 10 card if you can.
With data2sd the /data partition now resides and runs off the sd card

I can speak for Cromi X 5.4 (which is the official update released by asus but modified by sdbags) its based on android 4.2. It runs great on the tf700 with data2sd mod. Web browsing and download speeds were greatly improved using data2sd. You wont regret doing this. Remember that with this modification, all data will be stored on the SD card you are using (all pictures, music, videos, games, all will go here) so make sure you have a fast sd card with sufficient space. Internal memory will be used only as storage, so if you ran out of space on you external sdcard, you can trasnfer file to internal storage (you can a file manager to do this, I use ESexplorer or root explorer)
thanks
Guys, I buy a class 10 U-1 microsd, and yes, works better, but slow anyway. (CrombiKK + Data2SD)
Probably wrong wipes and the huge amounts of roms tested, installations and etc, are the problem.
Some Asks
- Rom2SD or Data2SD?
- How can i make a perfect installation? (some some tests left trash)
Thanks for all.
The slowest tablet I've ever used

me too.
mine is a refurb. 5 second lags at least before it recognizes anything. strangely it flies in twrp mode.
my benchmark scores are around 5000 with cromi 5.4 where it should be 7500 from what I've seen.
always wiped when I flash.
I want to bin this thing.
I have a Toshiba thrive which kills this and my kindle hd fire creams them both. I really don't understand what the problem is.
ideas??
Hi, my 0,02$. After trial and error, and when I say trial, it's like, I've tryed every ROM and every tweak possible, I've come to a tweak combination that gives me pretty much reasonable performance on my TF700.
After full wipe, and low format the data partition, installed the Zombi-X KK ROM, with fsync and data journaling disabled, browser to RAM enabled. Then, installed the app "Resolution Changer" to adjust the screen resolution to 1280x800 at 160DPI (I know that I could have done that on the ROM setup, but I prefer to do it on the go inside the system, so I can try different combinations, and get back to 1080p resolution with ease, if I want it). I also use the fstrim app, with the memory triming scheduled 3 times a week. Et voilĂ ! It's far from a perfect tablet experience (as it should be, for the its price) but it is much faster and better than stock ROM by far!
Hi all,
As many of you I'm frustrated by the lags of this update
I'm an user since oreo I've always updated and I never deleted my data since then
I found a way that for me worked to improve my experience with Android 10 I would like to share it
Go to settings
Battery
Adaptative battery
Battery manager (switch it OFF)
Reboot
Same as above
Battery manager (switch it On)
Reboot
Additionaly I've installed tynycore free version ram memory monitor and is running in foreground providing white bar ram usage indicator
I'm not sure which step fixed the issue but now after a week I'm running a smooth experience.
Tyncore dysplay an average of ram usage around 60%
Let me know if it works for you
Good luck
Thanks, that helped with lags a lot!
Hello, my phone's ram was always around 60%. If there is a leak shouldn't increase by time?

I didn't care about ram usage before the "workaround" so I can say if there was a huge memory consumption.
But you are right... Memory leaks will use all your ram which can't be set free
A lag can be caused by hundreds reason as cpu consumption or wrong coding... I don't think this can be easily discovered. The resolution could be a without sense trick like this
Tinycore measures ram the way the developer tools do. It shows lots of free ram because it's not counting "cached" apps. Lower-level tools like OSMonitor show the true usage, which is much higher (I typically have only 50-150M free but that's what you want to see).
The problem is not ram per-se, it's the system deciding to evict some apps from ram while keeping others in ram. The apps it keeps are not the ones that make sense.
Battery Manager didn't help for me. I can often go a week, but sometimes only a few days before I have to reboot to stop apps from immediately dying when multitasking.
Xiaomi has not been pulling non-security changes from AOSP. There's one about changing sounds for outlook. Perhaps there was a bug that got fixed and they just never got that fix. If custom ROMs don't have the problem, that'd make sense to me...

OS monitor in my case show 30% of free ram... not far away from tinycore assumption
My phone after 10 days is still usable after steps in post #1
Unfortunately I can't change rom in those days I need both sim working and I don't want fix drawbacks afftecting my job
I've disabled automatic updates and I'll move forward if I'll get good feedback from next updates
This method actually worked for me. Thanks a lot @joyride76. Tried a lot and nothing really worked and this little steps made the problem not occure for about 3 days now. I have Lspeed installed ever since I have the device, but this alone, never really helped out. Thanks again!

Happy to read I'm 13 days up without major issues
Your post it's a good confirmation
I'm not confident in your fix. I have tried it but my phone still gets slow between 24 and 48h of not restarting it.
Sadly this did not work on my phone. Memory shows 58% used memory but lag appears after 24hrs. Restart helps.
Wow. I'm actually surprised that Android 10 became much more usable. I was so frustrated and ready to trash it...

I hadn't kept tinycore running but after seeing your message I gave it a go. I was hoping that it would help as a side effect of probing the system.
Interestingly... It showed maybe 30% free on the first day, 20% on the second day and 40% on the third day.
However, on that third day, apps are once again being killed as soon as they hit the background. Not even the Play store could update several apps without dying (after I switched to another app).
I find interesting that when tinycore reports the most "free" memory is when the system behaves the worst. Actual ram is full of cached apps, it's just not apps that are useful (IMO).
I guess it's back to daily reboots for me
