Completely developed on the device for the device. Not one computer was used.
IF YOUR BATTERY LIFE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO YOU IN THE WORLD THIS MAY NOT BE FOR YOU!
Battery life hasn't been thoroughly tested and not expected to be great.
Welcome to ROM ZERO.
ZERO was developed for one purpose. SPEED! You will open apps, download, install apps, and browse the web faster than before. This rom is based on USABILITY SPEED and may not show in benchmarks. It's two totally different things. Battery life is not expected to be great but hasn't been tested so please Don't complain about your battery life. I would like some feedback on the battery life but as I said, don't expect much.
This is a stock rom lightly debloated with a few nice tweaks. I have added my yamato performance edition tweaks and some scripting in the frame buffer to help speed things up. This will give you higher frame rates in games and overall speed. Lean kernel is preloaded and completely over clocked including the GPU out of the box. There is no need to lkconfig. The GPU governor is also automatically set to performance mode. There are alot of adjustments made to this rom for speed. It's FAST.
SO WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?
De-odexed system with ODEXED apps.
Lightly debloated.
Black & white toggles.
Black status bar.
4.2 keyboard.
Menu to kill.
Holo & stock TW launchers.
Adjusted Bluetooth for quicker connections
Complete rewrite of the build.prop and included all of my HWUI settings for speed and a better visual experience.
Frame buffer speed adjustments.
Full HW rendering.
GPU over-clocked.

Yes I have always wanted my very own Internet. .lol
Installed this a few hours ago, been playing with it nonstop since then. I love it, but the native wifi tethering does not work. Is there a workaround for this that I'm missing? The wireless tether apps on the market don;t seem to be working, even with changing some settings. Thanks!

I'm going to guess I got a bit carried away with de-bloating. I will check it out. It's something I just never used but I will make it work. Sorry bout that!
Ok I just checked out native tethering but couldn't find any problems. What kind of issue are you having with it?
Not having any luck downloading through the link in the op. Keep getting a downloading error. Is the file hosted anywhere else by chance?? Thanks!
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I just posted a dropbox link in the op. See if that works better for you. The original link is working fine for me though.
I can start the hotspot from the status bar on top, but when I connect to my phone, get either a Limited Connectivity error or no connection at all. I can take some screenshots when I get home if that would help, maybe the app has an error log that I can find.
Just flashed, had no issues. Everything seems nice and smooth. Its also visually very smooth. Coming from clean ROM I would say as far as "speed" at least opening apps and such Clean ROM is faster, but Zero is very fluid. No issues with lag. I havent tested much else. So far so good though. Nice work and thanks! Its been kind of quiet on the forums since the S4 came out.
Unfortunately I found an issue this morning with some of the scripts loading. This rom is currently not running as I intended it as far as speed. The update tonight will be a huge difference in performance! Sorry about the bug.
Version 1.2 released.
Fixed scripting.
This will be a noticeable improvement!
Thanks for your patience.
I would love to know what battery life you guys get with this.

Crap thats a big battery. How much time do you usually get out of that?
Nice! Could you possibly remove Backup Assistant from settings? Always bothers me.
EDIT: Also, it's not allowing the setup wizard to complete. This is the only way to get my apps to auto-restore so could you look into it?

Well it's obviously easy enough to remove the app itself but removing the tab from the settings menu isn't something I have ever dove into yet. For me it's a bit complicated and over my head right now. I'm going to have to read up on setting tabs and learn a bit more about it. Probably in version 5.0 lol.
Edit @Your edit..
Darn another flaw! Ugghhh! Yes I will.

I am not the developer of this app. I am not a developer either, I am just an experienced user and just found an application that maight be usefull for our X10's.
Sysctl Config, It can be downloaded from the market.
With the appropiate settings, this app can improve performance and battery life. What it does is that it modifies certain kernel parameters related to virtual memory management.
This appication is only intended for advanced users and there is very little documentation on which are the best settings. I personally noticed a performance boost and now the phone is a lot more responsive, the scrolling is smother and it boots up a lot faster.
You should also notice a boost in 3d performance, specially runing high end games, such as asphalt 5 and avatar.
Probably the settings I used improved performance at battery life cost, but I will need to wait until tomorrow to tell since my battery is almost drained right now anyway and I just plugged it in. I also noticed an increase of my quadrant benchmark from around 1300 to over 1500.
After testing for about 3 months, these are the settings I found work best for me:
min free kbytes: 32568
dirty ratio: 5
dirty background ratio: 3
vfs cache pressure: 0
Oom allocating task: Enabled
For some, setting vfs cache pressure to 0 is risky. I can confirm that this setting was causing ramdom reboots on heavy usage, however, I enabled compache using spare parts app posted in this link and the issue went away:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12310102
BTW I am using CM 6.1.1 ROM.
Well, I think such detailed settings is kind of overkill for devices like phones. I'm not sure you could gain much performance, but it worst a try
BTW http://www.linuxinsight.com/proc_sys_vm_hierarchy.html here you could have more explained features that this app provides.

Oh, thank you, i'm so stupid. Let's see what we have there...
This seems really promising. I used the settings posted by the OP and definitely noticed a performance improvement. I too have very little knowledge about the best settings to use for our X10s and would appreciate some insight by someone does I'm tentative to really modify any of the settings out of fear of doing irreversible damage...if that's even possible.
Hopefully as more of us become aware of this application we'll collectively be able to find the optimal settings! Btw, anyone know the default X10 settings for this app??
hm the settings from the op drops the linpack score from 34 to 30mflops.
maybe we should play with these settings.
A thread here ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523707
Some more here ---> http://nenolod.net/how-to-improve-user-performance-on-android-phones/
The X10 probably has a BFS kernel which means *some* sysctl commands would NOT execute on our phones.

Try linpack twice in a row. Make sure it loaded the ads before trying. Also try quadrant, make sure u run twice when benchmarking since this will allow the OS to kill some background tasks so the second time should be a little higher.
Im getting linpak 34.96 and quadrant 1565.

Assuming you're rooted, you can use Ghost Commander from the market and use it's inbuilt editor to edit files + save them from within the GUI. Personally, i'd refrain from dabbling with more critical values without full knowledge of what I'm doing.

Personally my battery life has decreased, by how much is hard to say exactly because I've been a little heavier on my phone today than usual. At this point in the day my battery life is expected to be about 10 more hours and right now it's only reading 4--using the juice plotter app.
The phone does seem to be more responsive though and if I can still get through a whole day of moderately heavy use I'm happy.
Again, hopefully other more knowledgeable people here can post optimal settings for our X10s
*UPDATE* Yeah the settings in the OP definitely kill my battery a lot faster. The phone is more responsive for sure, but at the expense of battery performance. I'm running 2.1 Eternity ROM, dual touch, etc etc if that concerns anybody. I think I'll switch back to the default settings and uninstall this app because my battery life is honestly close to half of what it normally would be, I'm surprised no one else has noticed an impact?? :S
Saw this while reading my rss feeds and decided to give it a try. Overall the sidekick was slow when switching between apps and when going back to home screen(screen takes time to redraw-icons and widgets)
This script was pretty easy to do/apply and is supposed to work on stock and custom roms. Obviously its working for me on ayoteddys gingerclone with root.
I suggest you all try this out. Multitasking has become more satisfying.

Lock screen lag still seems to be there for me a bit, better than it was for sure but I have only tried one setting which I posted earlier, there are a ton of tweaks and hopefully over the next few days we can figure out the best setup for our device. I followed this visual step-by-step tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126940. For speed I chose 1 (fast). Then I chose #2, aggressive 1. Then I reboot. When I check if the script is working it prompts me to choose all the stuff again rather than showing the screen as shown on Step 8. When I repeat the same process anyway the current and previous minfrees are different, Current being higher.
Are the settings sticking after reboot? Did I do something wrong? Because when I switch orientation in GoLauncher EX widgets still refresh at the same speed before applying the script.
I've noticed a huge change in lack of lag after running this on aggressive 1 (option 2) there's barely any lag between exiting apps and returning to home now or switching between them its soooo nice hehe
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA App
So far I'm happy with Agressive 1. There's still that slight lag on the lock screen, and the Jump Menu is still laggy, but it's definitely a big improvement over the pre-supercharged performance.

This is a low risk script, you have more of a chance of screwing things up from rooting/flashing roms and the dev is trusted. Just make sure you read instructions and are confident when taking the steps and you will be fine. I've only tried one setting "aggressive 1" but so far so good and I will be testing another later and reporting differences.
Dunno what 3g turbocharger is, I might give it a shot but if it has to do with internet connection I'm in a wifi or 4g zone 99% of the time so a 3g booster wouldn't do anything for me.

I didn't use the visual tutorial, but it sounds like you used the same method I did. You should DEFINITELY notice a difference so it sounds like it's maybe it didn't work. I am on gingerclone with launcherpro so it could possibly be a golauncher issue, is anyone else running with golauncher?

I just tried golauncher and it seems to be working just as fast as adw and launcher pro when using this script. Do u have that task manager widget that comes with golauncher? try taking that off.
What about returning to home screen after running a couple of app... does your go laincher still take time to load?
Performance should be noticeable after running script.

I will try uninstalling the Go task widget. Returning to the homescreen has always been fast ever since running the script. So that I did notice.
As for the minfree keeping their settings after reboot, I ran that 99-whatever.sh file as a script, found in root-data, and ran as root and boot as troubleshooted in the help html file in the sd root. But I took that off and will unSuperCharge and SuperCharge again just to start clean.
EDIT: Btw, having task managers will interfere with the script, that's you asked about the Go Launcher task manager, right? If so, I'm using ZD Box, which is a multi-feature app, such as task killer, password protection, 3G monitor, battery status, and more. Will having this installed interfere much with the script?
I've seen more people mention this Pimp My Rom zip. I watched a few YouTube videos and there are quite a few options.

From my testing it seems like its given my battery a little extra stamina, I am using the kt747 kernel with it. As far as anything else I don't really notice anything, the gps tweak didn't help Google maps find me on PA, even though map quest has no damn problem, and the internet may be a bit faster but I need more time to tell for sure.

I feel that if these mods worked the manufacturers would be using them in the stock roms. If a build.prop tweak noticeably increases speed without any side affects manufacturers would have nothing to lose my making it stock.

Yep Stock rooted is the way to go... This phones signal is not that great and there is nothing to fix that.
So I keep hearing complaints about "lag" with the Galaxy S4. Some of you have it and some don't.
Well, debloating your ROM (removing junk apps that you don't use) will typically reduce lag since these extra apps aren't fighting for system resources. But that doesn't work for everyone.
Another thing to do is to flash an AOSP (android open source project) ROM. These ROM's (including gapps) are usually less than 300MB in total size, while a stock or even debloated stock TouchWiz ROM are almost always 800MB to 1.3+GB in size.
Another thing you can try is to install "Seeder". Some folks will suggest it doesn't really do anything for you. Some others will say it uses up a lot of battery. So I guess every application is different. Because for me, even with an AOSP ROM, I seem to get slightly faster system response time when I click on something. And I've left my phone alone over eight+hours and checked battery useage and don't see Seeder anywhere taking up any battery.
Here is the Seeder main application thread. There, you can "thank" the developer (lambgx02) and also ask questions about the app. You can also download Seeder from that thread for free.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987032
Or, you can be a nice person and "buy" the app from the Play Store. At less than $2, it's not very expensive.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lcis.seeder&hl=en
You can either read about how/why the app works or doesn't. Or you can try it for yourself.
For me, it's a must-have on the S4 since even AOSP ROM's still have a small amount of lag when compared with the smoothed-out ROM's on the S3.\
REQUIREMENTS:
-Rooted ROM
-Canadian or USA or Euro S4's, it works for all of them.
-TouchWiz or AOSP, it doesn't matter which.
So, here's how to install it:
1) Download Seeder to your internal or external SD card. It doesn't matter where.
2) Using Root Explorer (or your file browser of choice), locate and click on the seeder.apk.
3) Select "Install".
4) Select "Install" again.
5) Click "open".
6) Read the disclaimer and click "OK".
7) Grant root permissions:
8) Make your settings identical to mine (to start with). I've actually since changed mine from "Moderate" to "Aggressive" because I noticed no change in battery life. So, why not.
9) Now reboot.
10) Wait two minutes after the phone comes back up (to allow background start-up processes to finish) and start using phone normally.
Good luck, hope it works for you as well as it works for me. This is not a "cure-all" for lag, but it should help speed up an otherwise healthy system.
Don't expect miracles either. Only a really fubard'd ROM might show HUGE differences. But this app will probably help a little bit.
I had tried this program on my ATT GNOTE after the new JB update that seemed to slow everyone's phones to a crawl. It did help somewhat, but not enough for it to become bearable.. Caved and bought the S4. Seems like the app DOES work.

I endorse the posting of this link. I actually intended to do so in the OP when I was typing up the original post (and lost it all to a BSOD).
The article refers more to the theory behind the "fix".
But end results are end results, and the app works for some people. It also does not work for some other folks.
Like I said in the OP, try it and see how it works for you.

Right, and it shows that the theory behind the "fix" is flawed, having no effect on app execution. The only positive performance you're seeing is a result of boosting CPU speeds. It's not saying you're not seeing results. It's just that you're seeing them for the wrong reason; the same of which can be achieved by changing your CPU governor.

Negative. Because I've seen results on top of overlocking and governor changes.

I highly, highly doubt any other positive effects can be discernible on top of overclocking.

The system lags because touchwiz has many many features beyond those that you can just simply remove with titanium backup and such, there are a lot of features;what they seem to call them. That adjust color and lighting beyond ambient at all times no matter what. Samsung needs to release an update which I know they're cooking up, that optimizes these resource hog and debugs that are constantly running in the background... Let's just hope we get it soon and not have to wait till 4.3 to get it. The only way to get rid of all of the lag is to switch to also otherwise there will always be a tad amount of it, until samsung fixes it themselves; there's only so much developers can conjure up
The only way to get rid of the lag is by installing a custom ROM, either AOSP/AOKP or a TW based ROM like Omega or Winam. Then installing a custom, polished kernel like KT's kernel. Then disabling the scroll cache.
That makes this thing run like it should have in the first place.
Yeah seeder sucks sorry to say its not actually doing much.
Hello I am having heating issues. I'm not sure if this is normal or not and would like to know if there is anything I can do to reduce the heating issue?
I rooted my phone about 3 months ago. I installed the Liquid Smooth Rom. However I re-flashed TW because of some feature that I missed.
I have these apps on my phone: Rom Toolbox; Titanium Backup; EZ-Unlock; Root Checker Basic; Rom Management; Root Explorer; SD Booster; Trickster Mod & Supersu.
I've tried underclocking the phone by lowering the CPU max in both Trickster Mod and Rom Toolbox but both seem to revert back to the highest CPU settings.
My issue is that when I run my tethering app (pdanet/foxfi) my phone gets really hot and my battery drains like crazy.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I mean, I have those apps I listed above but really don't know how to set them up correctly to control my phone efficiently.
Thank you for any help you can offer.
prolonged tethering is going to stress the battery. Plus, pdanet and foxfi are not too reliable or efficient (my experience)
if you're on TW, I'd do a search for WifiTether_TrevE_Mod. I think it may be on google playstore as well.

Ok, thanks so much!
I'll look it up. I take it that it is more reliable and easier on the battery?
EDIT: I'm sorry, but I am a bit of a newb here. I did a search and came across this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735
I'm sure this is the one that you were referring to. However I can't seem to find a download link. (Maybe I'm blind or just don't understand). I also did a search on the play store and came up empty. Can you point me in the right direction please.

Ok, great.
Also, is there a optimization thread somewhere? I would like to know how to optimize my phone for top battery efficiency while not giving up to much on the usability side. I know about screen brightness and keeping my sync off and all of the basic things. I would like to know how to set up my system and such. I've froze many of the bloatware apps using TiBu but this hasn't resulted in the marked improvement I was hoping for. Maybe I didn't freeze the right ones.
One recommendation. Don't run 2 CPU management apps at once. Bad **** happens. Gerry rid of rom toolbox and keep trickster
