I've seen more people mention this Pimp My Rom zip. I watched a few YouTube videos and there are quite a few options.
I guess I'm trying to see if it's worth it or is this just all hot air.
I'm not having any issues, but if this can give me more juice, better performance, etc. I'll give it a shot.
Thanks in advance!!
From my testing it seems like its given my battery a little extra stamina, I am using the kt747 kernel with it. As far as anything else I don't really notice anything, the gps tweak didn't help Google maps find me on PA, even though map quest has no damn problem, and the internet may be a bit faster but I need more time to tell for sure.

I feel that if these mods worked the manufacturers would be using them in the stock roms. If a build.prop tweak noticeably increases speed without any side affects manufacturers would have nothing to lose my making it stock.

You would think that, and yet, device after device we are cleaning up their build.prop files and so on, making the same tired tweaks here and there...
...who knows.
I tried it on two roms and several apps gave me errors of no internet connection.
I thought it was their security options so i restored my old backup and tried different options and same results.

I would not mess with the Dalvik settings all that much. I got into an infinite boot loop and had to start over just once. Everything else seems to work just as advertised, with some really nice Extras (imo).

Yep Stock rooted is the way to go... This phones signal is not that great and there is nothing to fix that.

I tried to implement it about two months ago, and it did not work for me. Phone went into a loop at boot. I just gave up.
Anyone?
It would be really nice to find out if we can benefit from this as well.

Instead of starting a new Thread why not post in the one you linked to. I am sure the ones there that tested it would be able to help. Any time you post in an old thread it will bring (bump) it to the top and btw it is still an active thread.

Thanks.
I posted it here because I am asking about LG G2x users. In the script thread, you won't find questions about specific devices so much. It's more on how to install, what does it do, and so on.
I tried it didn't bootloop or anything but I didn't notice any difference in performance etc.
I just started using the V6 supercharger about a month and a half ago on my LG G2x and have loved it. before this i was running minfree to change presets but I like V6 because it has lots of options for those that don't fully understand what the presets do. If you use a low setting you probably wont notice much of a difference and I must say that I notice the biggest difference when I am overclocked and using V6 at the same time. If I'm not overclocked and using V6 I don't notice much. same thing when I am just overclocked without V6, not much of a diff. Both together seem to be great.
Also to those with boot loop problems - how long are you leaving your phone before you decide it has looped...a few times i have just had to walk away from my phone for 15-20 minutes just so I'm not tempted to pull the battery and every time i have left it alone i come back to everything running fast, smooth and stable.

Yeah, "I get a performance gain when I'm overclocked with the script, but get no performance gain without OC and the script" so that would be the placebo effect.
However, V6 SuperCharger does work very well at setting the right OOM groupings and also makes everything a lot smoother for me. I'm underclocked to 750mhz and get the performance of the stock 1ghz.

Eh, maybe, if you're on a lower end phone, I think the effect would be more noticeable as well, it would also be noticed if you ran alot of apps at once since multi tasking will take up more RAM than for someone like me who listens to music and browses the forum and maybe uses maps if I don't feel like paying attention to where I am at on the bus.

All true, but in hypocrats case it is complete placebo since he is using the lower setting.
He says he notices a performance gain with overclocking and the script, but none without overclocking and the script. Performance gain was all overclock.
But the higher settings work well, the script makes everything smooth, even for me at 750mhz, and will fix OOM groupings.
Maybe, but my battery life is better in standby and I have less issues with the stock internet browser. Below 100mb free and it became very buggy for me. I would love it if everyone shared what rom they are using and their settings. I am using close to the recommended settings.I am using New Clip (weapon based) and #5 unleaded.
I discovered that if I adjust my screen sensitivity under clockwork mod recovery from "default" to "sensitive2" it will cause my captivate to seriously lag. It makes almost everything go hay wire. This is just a resource for anybody else who might have stumbled onto a lagging problem.
I am using the corn 7.06 kernel(thanks mtcarey) and the legend 3.7 ICS ROM(thanks crt60), I have my governor as smartassv2 and my I/O scheduler as SIO. My LMK is at 70mb, instead of 48 default (this will probably change depending on stability).
My captivate has run smoother than it ever has on these settings, with lots of the bloat removed as well.
Can anybody else confirm this?
Corn 7.06 has CWM v5.1.0.7
Yes, I don't think it's lag, but rather that the sensitivity is just messed up. I would check the corn thread, as others may have had this reported.

I still do because I have to use my phone for work and being too experimental might get me in some hot water.
Plus, I'm waiting to see how the whole encryption problem shakes out. I know it's only a small chance of occurring, but that's a chance I don't want to take right now.

I'm not sure exactly what the problem was, but the boot time was much longer and every interaction was super slow, like homescreen transitions and such.. I just called it lag, there may be a better name for it...

Are you interested in going into clockwork mod to try and see if you can re create the issue? I'm curious to know if it's just my phone + tweaks/setup...
I can agree, at the moment I want a stable phone, I use my phone too often for school and stuff to be worrying about errors, besides finals week is next week for me so i need less distractions... I'll wait till I see a smaller bug's list on the ICS rom threads. I want to try it out, but i'm gonna wait.
I don't seem to be getting any lag after setting that tweak. I also have my LMK set at 78, but my governor is set to ondemandb because I found that smartassv2 would be slow to wake up from sleep and ramp up the processor.
Hmmm.. That's interesting.. I wonder what was causing my issue then. I'll try some of the other sensitivity settings later today when i have more free time.
I also tried changing the init.rc tweaks to the system corps tweaks and i got a similar lag which was immediately fixed by switching to no tweaks... I wonder what I'm missing here... If i don't have, any of these tweaks on my captivate is super smooth
Thanks for all your help!
At the moment i seem to be good at finding problems... As time goes i should get better at fixing them on my own and then i wont post silly questions.
Again thanks.

I think those tweaks in tandem with screen sensitivity may be doing something. I had maladroit.tweaks on when this happened
Sent from my CM9 ICS i897 Captivate
I wasn't using both at the same time, i used them separately. I'm just going leave it be for awhile i think. I'm so happy that it's running so smooth compared to before it was rooted and de bloated.
I'm probably just gonna wait till ice cream sandwich is more stable, or i have a new phone, then I'll mess with that.
Maybe I'll just wait till the galaxy S III. Anybody else excited for the possibilities of this new phone coming up? I guess that would be something for the questions forum though.
If you've got the time, can anybody give a brief description of what these init.rc tweaks are supposed to do as a whole? I read the system changes of each in cwm, but I'm not sure exactly what they do. It's fine if you don't answer, i know it would be a long post, i just wasn't able to find an explanation. I'll thank you if you do give a good explanation though.

No, i just now found out about thunderbolt...
I'm pretty stock, i'm on RFS, legend 3.7, corn 7.06, the only tweaks I've kept were the LMK and changing the I/O scheduler and governor.
Thanks again for all your input, i'll hit the thanks button for you guys. You're great for helping a beginner learn for the first time.
I have Thunderbolt tweaks in my ICS ROM. Not sure if they help. AOKP and kernel developers added their own support of these tweaks thru ROMControl, NSTools and Semaphore app. SQLite rebuilder is nice I guess. Zipalign is useless - all apps already zipaligned.
Hi all,
I've been struggling for the past few months with terrible performance issues on my Droid Charge. Things like redrawing the home screen and lag between switching programs I can live with, but when it takes several minutes to pull up the dialer to make a phone call or to answer a text message, my phone kind of stops being useful as a phone.
I started off on stock when I got the phone last year, then I rooted it a few months later. Everything was great until June. Gradually, my phone had become less responsive (taking forever to make calls, view and send texts). That plus something weird was eating >2GB data/month, and I could only identify it as "Android OS/others" via Onavo. I decided to go clean and try Tweaked 2.2w/PBJ. Things were pretty good for a couple of weeks until the major lag started coming back. I stepped back and uninstalled many apps, hoping to find one that was the main culprit, but my phone continues to act like it's trying to calculate a billion values of pi or something.
I tried following the steps from the rootzwiki "5 Steps to Keep Your Phone Snappy/Lagfree" (not allowed to link yet ), which helped somewhat, but it has not eliminated the problem. I often find myself resetting my phone to make phone calls. SwiftKey often doesn't load correctly and requires me to enter and exit applications frequently to get it to allow me to type. I had to wait nearly 2 minutes to get my home screen to display until I removed Holo Launcher and went back to TouchWiz.
Sorry for the essay--I'd be happy to provide additional details if needed. What can I do to a) figure out what's wrong with my phone and b) fix it?
Thanks in advance!

could any number of issues - ranging from a rogue app to the ROM not sticking correctly. when you installed Tweaked, did you do it via CWM or ODIN?
also, did you enable the build.prop tweaks to help with redraws and making calls?
otherwise, I would suggest to try wiping cache and dalvik (sometimes that cleans it up a bit as well rebooting the phone once every few days) to help clear out some of the clutter.
do you have any "force close" messages (such as SyncMLSvc)?
Thanks for the quick reply.
I installed Tweaked through ODIN. I haven't heard about the build.prop tweaks though. Is there a resource you can point me to or a quick process to enabling them? I thought that a lot of these tweaks were "cooked" into the Tweaked ROM.
I've got App Cache Cleaner dejunking me every 4 hours, and I try and hit the davlik every day...I still have issues.
I do have the SyncMLSvc force close on boot. I figured it was a known bug in Tweaked and that it'd be addressed in a later revision. Is it a symptom of something more ominous?

i don't use App cache cleaner, and thus do not have any issues. also, if you have TiBu, you can uninstall that syncmlsvc. see if that does the trick.
regarding the build.prop tweak, remove the # from ro.home_app_adj=1

Do you have facebook installed? That P.O.S. kills my phone everytime. I install it from time to time just to see if they are coming close to fixing it. Needless to say it gets uninstalled in under 10 minutes.
I know everybody will jump all over me on this but why not try stock rooted FP5 for a couple of days. It will give you a baseline to compare other roms and app impact with. If your phone still acts up it would seem to be pointing to a hardware error IMHO.
What can it hurt?

Most importantly out of everything is to always check out your md5's and make sure they match. Also try going back to stock with the pit file too for a full fresh install. But I think the problem is the md5 sums unless you download apps off the internet
Edit: also remember to mount system when flashing roms

So, an update: I thought it was SwiftKey that was killing my phone, because I was doing better after I removed it. It was crappified even then, even after removing Facebook. I bit the bullet yesterday and went back to stock, updated all the way to FP5. I kept Facebook off (I've mostly moved over to G+ anyways). Everything is great. I put SwiftKey back on, and everything is still great.
I hate to say it, but even though the loss of customization in Tweaked is disappointing, I'm more satisfied with the phone in general with the stock ROM. My battery even lasts more than 3 hours too.
If it ain't broke...

my phone usually has that affect after flashing a new ROM. basically it's the wiping of data and cache/dalvik that helps cleans out the problems.

Well as long as your happy that's all that really matters. To be fair - there is nothing in Tweaked that should degrade performance at all compared to what is normally seen in stock. The one difference I could see is that Tweaked is deodexed - and many swear the odexed approach is faster/snappier/whatever-adjective-you-want-to-say-that-means-better than the deodexed one. Hopefully things stay functioning well.

I tried forever to get PBJ to play nice. RFS & ext4. Gemini App Manager autostart tweaks. MinFree tweaks. All the TweakTool init.d tweaks. The SQL index tweaks. overclocking. Autokiller, other memory apps, JuiceDefender, other build.prop tweaks, etc. I tried it all...
I'm not sure if it was my hardware version or what, but I just could not get it to work well. It always seemed like it ran out of memory and couldn't automatically manage the apps in an overloaded situation. If i manually ran some of the SQL scripts, and killed running apps, it would be ok, but not for long. I had problems losing text messages because I think the text message handler got killed or didn't run in time. I've tried GoSMS and the stock SMS. I ended up relying on Ghostly SMS to help catch the texts I lost.
Once I went back to stock FP1, most of my problems went away. It's been much more stable. So, since then, it's been stock kernel (obviously on RFS). I've been on FP5 with various versions of Tweaked 3 beta/RC and now I'm no the final. All good.
So, as much promise PBJ has or had (who knows what the FP1/FP5 hybrid will turn out like), stock kernel with Tweak 3 is the way to go for me!

You're 100% correct!!
Please correct me if I'm wrong because I really want to know. The way I see it is, the real improvements over FP1 came from what Samsung did with FP5. Then what Dwitherell did was remove the useless bloat and ugliness then add the useful features and beautify it without changing anything that would hurt the performance.
The first time I upgraded to FP5 stock I noticed the speed increase right off. I checked it out a little and was amazed. But of course it had all of Verizon's bloat garbage in it and none of the awesome tweaks from Dwith. And it had no user installed apps in it at all. It has always seemed like the more apps I install the slower the phone gets.
So am I right?
Completely developed on the device for the device. Not one computer was used.
IF YOUR BATTERY LIFE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO YOU IN THE WORLD THIS MAY NOT BE FOR YOU!
Battery life hasn't been thoroughly tested and not expected to be great.
Welcome to ROM ZERO.
ZERO was developed for one purpose. SPEED! You will open apps, download, install apps, and browse the web faster than before. This rom is based on USABILITY SPEED and may not show in benchmarks. It's two totally different things. Battery life is not expected to be great but hasn't been tested so please Don't complain about your battery life. I would like some feedback on the battery life but as I said, don't expect much.
This is a stock rom lightly debloated with a few nice tweaks. I have added my yamato performance edition tweaks and some scripting in the frame buffer to help speed things up. This will give you higher frame rates in games and overall speed. Lean kernel is preloaded and completely over clocked including the GPU out of the box. There is no need to lkconfig. The GPU governor is also automatically set to performance mode. There are alot of adjustments made to this rom for speed. It's FAST.
SO WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?
De-odexed system with ODEXED apps.
Lightly debloated.
Black & white toggles.
Black status bar.
4.2 keyboard.
Menu to kill.
Holo & stock TW launchers.
Adjusted Bluetooth for quicker connections
Complete rewrite of the build.prop and included all of my HWUI settings for speed and a better visual experience.
Frame buffer speed adjustments.
Full HW rendering.
GPU over-clocked.

Yes I have always wanted my very own Internet. .lol
Installed this a few hours ago, been playing with it nonstop since then. I love it, but the native wifi tethering does not work. Is there a workaround for this that I'm missing? The wireless tether apps on the market don;t seem to be working, even with changing some settings. Thanks!

I'm going to guess I got a bit carried away with de-bloating. I will check it out. It's something I just never used but I will make it work. Sorry bout that!
Ok I just checked out native tethering but couldn't find any problems. What kind of issue are you having with it?
Not having any luck downloading through the link in the op. Keep getting a downloading error. Is the file hosted anywhere else by chance?? Thanks!

I just posted a dropbox link in the op. See if that works better for you. The original link is working fine for me though.
I can start the hotspot from the status bar on top, but when I connect to my phone, get either a Limited Connectivity error or no connection at all. I can take some screenshots when I get home if that would help, maybe the app has an error log that I can find.
Just flashed, had no issues. Everything seems nice and smooth. Its also visually very smooth. Coming from clean ROM I would say as far as "speed" at least opening apps and such Clean ROM is faster, but Zero is very fluid. No issues with lag. I havent tested much else. So far so good though. Nice work and thanks! Its been kind of quiet on the forums since the S4 came out.
Unfortunately I found an issue this morning with some of the scripts loading. This rom is currently not running as I intended it as far as speed. The update tonight will be a huge difference in performance! Sorry about the bug.
Version 1.2 released.
Fixed scripting.
This will be a noticeable improvement!
Thanks for your patience.
I would love to know what battery life you guys get with this.
Downloading now. I have a gorilla gadgets battery 4500mah idk if that'll be much help tho.

Crap thats a big battery. How much time do you usually get out of that?
Nice! Could you possibly remove Backup Assistant from settings? Always bothers me.
EDIT: Also, it's not allowing the setup wizard to complete. This is the only way to get my apps to auto-restore so could you look into it?

Well it's obviously easy enough to remove the app itself but removing the tab from the settings menu isn't something I have ever dove into yet. For me it's a bit complicated and over my head right now. I'm going to have to read up on setting tabs and learn a bit more about it. Probably in version 5.0 lol.
Edit @Your edit..
Darn another flaw! Ugghhh! Yes I will.
So I keep hearing complaints about "lag" with the Galaxy S4. Some of you have it and some don't.
Well, debloating your ROM (removing junk apps that you don't use) will typically reduce lag since these extra apps aren't fighting for system resources. But that doesn't work for everyone.
Another thing to do is to flash an AOSP (android open source project) ROM. These ROM's (including gapps) are usually less than 300MB in total size, while a stock or even debloated stock TouchWiz ROM are almost always 800MB to 1.3+GB in size.
Another thing you can try is to install "Seeder". Some folks will suggest it doesn't really do anything for you. Some others will say it uses up a lot of battery. So I guess every application is different. Because for me, even with an AOSP ROM, I seem to get slightly faster system response time when I click on something. And I've left my phone alone over eight+hours and checked battery useage and don't see Seeder anywhere taking up any battery.
Here is the Seeder main application thread. There, you can "thank" the developer (lambgx02) and also ask questions about the app. You can also download Seeder from that thread for free.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987032
Or, you can be a nice person and "buy" the app from the Play Store. At less than $2, it's not very expensive.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lcis.seeder&hl=en
You can either read about how/why the app works or doesn't. Or you can try it for yourself.
For me, it's a must-have on the S4 since even AOSP ROM's still have a small amount of lag when compared with the smoothed-out ROM's on the S3.\
REQUIREMENTS:
-Rooted ROM
-Canadian or USA or Euro S4's, it works for all of them.
-TouchWiz or AOSP, it doesn't matter which.
So, here's how to install it:
1) Download Seeder to your internal or external SD card. It doesn't matter where.
2) Using Root Explorer (or your file browser of choice), locate and click on the seeder.apk.
3) Select "Install".
4) Select "Install" again.
5) Click "open".
6) Read the disclaimer and click "OK".
7) Grant root permissions:
8) Make your settings identical to mine (to start with). I've actually since changed mine from "Moderate" to "Aggressive" because I noticed no change in battery life. So, why not.
9) Now reboot.
10) Wait two minutes after the phone comes back up (to allow background start-up processes to finish) and start using phone normally.
Good luck, hope it works for you as well as it works for me. This is not a "cure-all" for lag, but it should help speed up an otherwise healthy system.
Don't expect miracles either. Only a really fubard'd ROM might show HUGE differences. But this app will probably help a little bit.
I had tried this program on my ATT GNOTE after the new JB update that seemed to slow everyone's phones to a crawl. It did help somewhat, but not enough for it to become bearable.. Caved and bought the S4. Seems like the app DOES work.
This app is a myth that has been busted even by the xda portal.

I endorse the posting of this link. I actually intended to do so in the OP when I was typing up the original post (and lost it all to a BSOD).
The article refers more to the theory behind the "fix".
But end results are end results, and the app works for some people. It also does not work for some other folks.
Like I said in the OP, try it and see how it works for you.

Right, and it shows that the theory behind the "fix" is flawed, having no effect on app execution. The only positive performance you're seeing is a result of boosting CPU speeds. It's not saying you're not seeing results. It's just that you're seeing them for the wrong reason; the same of which can be achieved by changing your CPU governor.

Negative. Because I've seen results on top of overlocking and governor changes.

I highly, highly doubt any other positive effects can be discernible on top of overclocking.

The system lags because touchwiz has many many features beyond those that you can just simply remove with titanium backup and such, there are a lot of features;what they seem to call them. That adjust color and lighting beyond ambient at all times no matter what. Samsung needs to release an update which I know they're cooking up, that optimizes these resource hog and debugs that are constantly running in the background... Let's just hope we get it soon and not have to wait till 4.3 to get it. The only way to get rid of all of the lag is to switch to also otherwise there will always be a tad amount of it, until samsung fixes it themselves; there's only so much developers can conjure up
The only way to get rid of the lag is by installing a custom ROM, either AOSP/AOKP or a TW based ROM like Omega or Winam. Then installing a custom, polished kernel like KT's kernel. Then disabling the scroll cache.
That makes this thing run like it should have in the first place.
Yeah seeder sucks sorry to say its not actually doing much.
