Now we seen the TF2, is there a new dock too?

Now we seen the TF2, is there a new keyboard dock too? I'm thinking about getting a dock but if there is a new thinner one, ill wait. Wonder if it will fit a TF1.

I simply don't see how they could have a thinner tablet but still fit the first dock. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

That's a good question too. So if there is a thinner dock and thinner TF2, will the old thicker TF1 fit the thinner dock? If there is a new dock?

ASUS always said it'd be compatible. It'll just look ugly when connected I guess. But the new Prime is super slick and thin. Best to just sell and rebuy.

Well, I don't agree. I still think the bronze color of the TF1 looks great because it makes the TF look nothing like other tablets. I just hope they don't make the TF2 look like other tablets.

That thin = easy to break would be my guess. Although it hasnt materialized with the ipad or the Samsung. Its not like most people are snapping them in half, its broken glass, which will happen on a thin or a thick tablet.

I've gotta say, if the TF Prime works with the current dock, I'll be buying one the first day. I couldn't care less if it doesn't match--I'm not terribly worried about being arrested by the fashion police.
Really, what makes me hesitate in buying the Prime is the though of needing not only the tablet but also another $150 on a dock. Take that away, and suddenly I can justify things a little better.
That said, I don't actually think the dock will be supported--I remember Asus saying awhile back that they received a number of complaints about the docking mechanism (which I've never understood) and so were going to redesign it. I don't know how they could change the mechanism and still support the original dock, but we'll see...

Yeah, it's unlikely I'll be upgrading if the existing dock isn't supported, either. I could care less about thinner, so the TF2's advantages (faster, and *maybe* a better camera since they bothered to add an LED flash) would be outweighed by its disadvantages (new docks means added expense, and now it's not only a reflective fingerprint magnet on the front, but on the back as well.)

I wonder if the new dock includes a built in battery?
They read it reportedly has a 14.5 hour battery life, but it didn't mention it that was docked or undocked. If that batter life is docked then a guess it a small trade off for thinness. If it's undocked I could see the dock not needing to have a battery (of course a dock that add an additional 10 hours would be really nice too).

Yeah, the base becomes slippery when you raise the screen. Maybe if they would have used rubber on the feat instead of hard plastic it would have been better.

Pure math :
TF1 : 12.98mm thick AND TF2 : 8.3mm thick = Different dock

I heard 16.5 hours docked clearly, but couldn't quite make out 8.5 hours by itself. Not sure where everyone got 14.5 hours as is being reported, because I definitely didn't hear that.

I know many people have stated otherwise, and if I remember correctly engadget even tried it out. But the official site clearly states that the prime dock will not work on the infinity.

Very interesting, I read the same that Engadget TF201 Dock works.....we need some real testers then.

I can confirm the dock for the TF201 works perfectly with my TF700T
But... the colors are not quite the same... I have a grey TF700T and the grey of the TF201 dock is a lot darker and purple than the tablet

I can also confirm. I bought a dockless TF700 and a TF201 dock, they worked together flawlessly form the start.
The brack.ch site markets the dock as "ASUS EEE PAD Transformer TF201/TF700 Dockingstation"

How is the color?

Every review/unboxing video ive seen on youtube had a prime dock. And as you might know that stuff gets sent to them by Asus themselves. So I'd take that compatibility-sentence on their homepage with a grain of salt. Thats basically them trying to make even more money off the uninformed people (which is like 85% of the customers).
If I didnt already preorder the whole package (dock/tablet) i would have bought the prime dock. I might even sell my infinity dock and get the prime one if it really gives more battery and the colour aint significantly different from the tablet.

Another thing I just saw now... the tablet and the dock don't fit perfectly. There is a gap like 2-3mm where the tablet is more to the front

It seems some early adopters are getting the Infinity bundled with the old Keyboard. I saw a picture in the post above and the prime keyboard doesn´t sit too well on the infinity when closed/clapped together.
Can someone who bought both tablet and dock confirm if this is true?

I got mine today and can confirm it.
My TF700T came with a TF201 Dock (bundled that way by Asus, I guess).
After looking at that picture above I saw that my combination also shows that small gap, but Its such a minor difference that my guess is that it's meant that way.
I think the real infinity dock might show that gap too because it fits perfectly on any other part. The gap seems to come from the rubber spacer left and right of the keyboard.
But who cares for these minor differences? Personally I'd prefere the old Dock because the battery is stronger and all other specs are excactly the same. **
** comparing the specs at Asus' website it seems the new dock will be 1cm thinner but 20g heavier AND has the smaller battery, so I concider myself lucky to get the old one

Question to the ones who have the dock already: Do you find yourselves using the dock a lot other than for the apparent reasons such as battery life and USB port?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking of buying the dock, but I'm a bit unsure wether this is a "need" or a "want". I get that if you're a writer/columnist, a keyboard dock is great, but it'd be nice to get some personal opinions from others on wether the dock turned out to be a "must have" in everyday use or if it's really just an appendage to get more battery life so to speak.

It's really nice as an extra charger while on the run. Plus a full USB port and a full SD card slot are a great addition when moving larger amounts of data. But what makes in more like a laptop is the keyboard itself. I wouldn't be excited with the Infinity so much if not for the keyboard (the HD screen itself is great for sure, but still...). Touch screen is fun, but writting longer texts on it is pain for me (especially as it's not 100% responsive while typing fast, which I'm used to), I need a real keyboard, and the 93% keyboard is really fine (the right shift could be bigger, but hey... it's 10" and it's pretty easy to get accustomed!). On the other hand, I'll try to play with some non-standard keyboards during this weekend (the GO Keyboard was OK, but unfortunately not compatible with the dock) - on my list are LogiType, FloatNSplit, Thumb, SlideIT, Smart, Swiftkey and TouchPal keyboards, so a lot of testing to do...
BTW, I've just bought some cheap stylus (~3 EUR) to test the whole idea and it's great!

I'm planning on taking notes on this thing as a replacement for the dismal battery performance on my laptop, and the fact that it's lighter, thinner, and I can use a stylus to take notes as well.

Sure, the quality is good, but it is not that much different than getting used to any netbook / small laptop keyboard. I am using the TF201 docking station, as this was the one I got bundled with TF700, BTW, but I believe it is not that much different from the upcoming "TF700 dedicated keyboard".
I'm planning on taking notes on this thing as a replacement for the dismal battery performance on my laptop, and the fact that it's lighter, thinner, and I can use a stylus to take notes as well.

I only don't like Polaris Office, I will be using either the free Kingsoft office suite (which is really great) or - if I decide to spend some more money - OfficeSuite Pro 6, which seems the most convenient for me so far. You should definitely give it a try if you want the Infinity to work as a replacement for your laptop.

I think I have a couple office applications already. Is SuperNote the bundled application with the tablet? I type much faster than I write, so I'm planning on just using the stylus for notes that I can't type (i.e. Math). Luckily for me, this semester I don't have a math class though....a lot of critical thinking classes like Philosophical Reasoning, Social Problems, and Beauty and Creativity. Stuff I'll need to take notes for of course, and this tablet will be incredibly helpful for doing that.
Now I have to figure out if buying the TF700 dock is the right idea, or buying the TF201 one is better.

I really like your set of classes, although the Beauty thing feels pretty unnerving ;>
And yes, SuperNote is bundled, as well as many other apps. See some reviews on YouTube or on the tech websites, many of them mentioned it already.
I cannot help you with the docking options, as I only got to use the TF201 one. If I had an option to choose, I would prefer to lay my hands on both IRL. It's a very personal thing, so I don't think that the reviews can answer it for you.

When sliding my tablet into the (bundled prime-)dock, the lock only jumps back to the middle position and has to be manually moved to the right/lock-position. I have read that this may be an issue with defunct docks and that these should be returned. Is that true? Or are all old prime docks "affected", making a return superfluous?
So far, it doesn't bother me too much, but I just want to make sure everything works as planned.

I think it's just the slight difference in size between the Prime and the Infinity. I've also observed this on my Prime dock + Infinity tablet bundle, sometime it clicks, sometime it's stuck half-way, but the tablet is docked normally, so it's only the lock/slider that has to be adjusted. For me certainly not a flaw which would justify returning it. But if you hope for a TF700 dock in return, you can try (possibly with more luck in a few weeks, when the latter is widely available?)

I've just bought a TF700 pad and it works fine with my TF201 docking station. I haven't noticed any inconsistency in colours or size (but then again, I'm not the kind of person for which that matters - as long as it works, it could be in Yellow and Green colours for all I care).
However, I have noticed one curious thing, that I would like some input on. I had bought a 64 Gb MicroSD card ( amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-microSDXC-Adapter-SDSDQUA-064G-U46A/dp/B007WTAJTO/ref=sr_1_4 ), and it works perfectly in my Asus Eed Pad Transformer Prime TF201 pad, but I am unable to make it work in the TF700 pad.
I have tried formatting it to FAT32, exFAT and NTFS with variying cluster sizes, and when I insert it into the TF700 pad, the "Preparing external storage" message flashes on the screen for a very brief instant, and then nothing - no card is available.
That surprised me quite a bit, as I expected the hardware support to be the same in the TF700 as in the TF201, but it seems like there is a different USB hardware part in the TF700 than in the TF201.
My 128 Gb SD Card ( amazon.com/Sandisk-Extreme-Memory-45MBps-Speeds/dp/B006ZH1WVS/ref=sr_1_1 ) in the docking station (formatted to FAT32) works with both pads connected (which was expected, as the hardware is the same in this instance).
Does anyone have success with a 64 Gb MicroSD card in the TF700 pad? If so, which one is it, and how is the card formatted?

TF700 and TF300T Dock?

I couldn't wait so I bought both the TF300T and its dock not expecting the TF700 to come out in a reasonable time. Surprise Surprise, it comes out a few weeks later than expected. I was wondering if anyone had used the TF300 dock with the TF700. The review on Mobile Tech Review for the TF300 said that the TF300 dock worked with the prime but not vice versa because the prime was thinner than the TF300. I know that the TF300 is thicker than the prime significantly and that the TF700 is only slightly thicker than the TF300 so the TF300 dock should work with the Transformer Infinity right?

I will be selling my Prime with its keyboard on eBay as soon as my new TF700t and its new keyboard show up, I suggest you do the same. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff.

I'd think long and hard if you're really that better off with the TF700 (that's a personal decision, and I know I'm very happy with the TF700 overall and that it provides pluses over and above the TF300's feature that I value highly). I wish you wisdom, and possibly, or probably, welcome you into the TF700 owner group.

I am not deterred by any of the complaints in this forum. My 300 had a lot of the same issues. Either they didn't bother me or I got use to it. I was a heavy ipad user for several years and I cannot go back. I need the Infinity's higher res screen so that I can better read texts for school. I do not care about any of the other issues with the device; they should all be fixed.
Dang, I'll take a bigger hit if I have to sell my 300 dock too Spent a little over 500 on it and will probably get at best like 400 on craigslist. Oh well.

The Infinity is still relatively new, but there is already quite a bit of development going on with it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1665
As far as official support, such as bug fixes or updates, Asus generally seems to be better and at least faster to get updates out than other manufacturers.
Customer support, however, is a different matter. I haven't dealt with Asus support directly, but there are ample reports about it's horrible quality. For example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1830473&highlight=asus+support
Likewise, Asus' quality control is pretty lax. There are a lot of tablets with issues that never should have passed standard QA checks.
Another related note: they also seem to be selling rebranded TF201 docks as "new" TF700 docks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810592&highlight=tf700+dock
All things considered though, I'm happy with the Infinity overall. I will accompany that with the caveat that I am in fact getting a replacement for my Infinity and dock from Amazon due to some dust under my screen in a very annoying location (right in the center) and because some keys on the dock started registering incorrectly.

Its a good tablet, but its not without its flaws. I'd still pick one up, as Asus is very good about software updates and our dev community is starting to ramp up so we'll get our custom roms.
Some issues that people have had:
-Quality control is very hit or miss
-You're going to have light bleed. Most tablets have it light enough that its only noticeable while booting though, once in Android it goes away.
-Internal flash storage is relatively slow, causing some occasional performance hiccups. If the Prime is any indication, custom roms will easily work around the issue.
-Asus's tech support staff are complete crap that'll insist on RMAing your device even for the most trivial issues.
-Some devices wont receive updates or unlock their bootloader, although in most cases both start working after a few weeks.
Just make sure you get one that's physically well built, and you should like it.

If possible wait before buying.
Don't jump in like I did.
I did get a later non buggy Infinity that has no build problems.
The performance of the tablet is what I would say is stellar compared to most of the previous incarnations.
Yet there is competition on the horizon that just might blow the Infinity out of the water.
I ran out and bought the Acer A700 because it was the latest thing and ended up severely disappointed.
So then I jumped over to the Infinity and have been pleased.
If you are a true blue power user\tinkerer the Asus may be good, yet you may be much happier with a later model
10 inch tab that ships with android 4.1 jellybean.
I'll bet the hardware in the upcoming tabs will give the 'ole iPad a real run for the finish line.
As far as the this or that choice...to me it boils down to an OS preference.
I wouldn't make sense for anyone on here to recommend apple over droid.
Probably best to not even bring it up...

I have a Asus Prime currently in limbo between Asus and FEDEX for about a month now trying to get it replaced. Long story short. Prime broke (poor quality), sent it to texas service center. 1/2 week later got it back. Service center screwed up the packing, FEDEX destroyed my tablet on delivery. Submitted and claim, 30 days later still waiting. Got tired of waiting, bought the infinity.
Asus seems to have learned their lessons from the Prime, so for me the Infinity works like what I expected the prime to be. Flawless.
If you're into customization and tinkering then this is the tablet for you. The only negative I have to say is Asus as a company they are very schizophrenic. They seem to have good customer support, their response time is good, they are polite and they want to do right by the customer but the end result is unsatisfactory. The Prime should have been recalled, but instead they released band aids to problems that only made things worst. But they tried to do good for the customer. Which is why I ended up buying another Asus product. I just hope I don't come to regret my decision later on.
There's not that many options right now anyways, if you want the most powerful tablet released you either get the ipad 3 or the infinity. My vote is on the infinity, just make sure you get insurance.

I will be using this a lot for school work. Is it sensitive enough for handwriting? Can I use a fine tipped stylus like the HandStylus (http://handstylus.com/) ?
Also is there a considerable drop in Performance in the 3G version compared to the Wifi version?

Yes its very sensitive. The digitizer on the Infinity is really good. Regarding the HandStylus, I don't see why it shouldn't work. It looks like a normal capacitive stylus with just a smaller tip. As far as the 3g version I don't believe its out on the market yet.

I use my Infinity for quite a bit of work. One thing I found is that I use the device docked with the keyboard more than I do as an actual tablet. When sitting at a table or even on the couch I'm able to bang out e-mail, XLS files or word docs with little or no effort. Even when not using the keyboard, just having it there gives a very stable stand to hold the device in a comfortable position. I'm not even considering a sleeve anymore to protect the device, since just folding the keyboard up will protect the screen. Honestly, I didn't think I would use it this way... figured they dock was going to be a novelty accessory. It has truly transformed (pun intended) this thing into something that is really productive. Not sure what kind of school work you will be using your tablet for, but this is something you might want to consider.

I own one and I think it's great.. I honestly can't think of a reason why you shouldn't get it.. In addition, there are plenty of stable OS that you can put on the tablet once you root it; plus, you have more options you can enact on the tablet, which wouldn't be possible on the iPad.

I second Garys opinion. My transformer has become my sole computing device at home, with my desktop being used as a file storage.
The keyboard dock is essential for school.

FWIW, I finally bought a gray Infinity after being without my OG Transformer since last AUG and tiring of the wait for a champagne unit. (Tried a Prime for about 36 hours -- it was such a POS that I returned it for a refund.) The gray Infinity has been in production long enough to work out assembly issues, if Asus plans to correct them at all.
I bought from Amazon, which has excellent customer service and return policies. I should receive the unit today. If there are build issues, I'll exchange no more than twice (which, not coincidentally, is the limit of Amazon's exchange policy). If I can't find a good unit among three, I'll just return it and wait for the Samsung P10 or a Surface tab.
Heck, if the P10 is as killer as specs suggest, I'll probably eBay the Infinity anyway. But I've done without a tablet for so long -- and the keyboard dock for my Droid Bionic is a poor substitute -- that I gotta try something.

If you want to be conformed to a cookie cutter device, and have a dictatorial company tell you what you want, need, and desire
While controlling you with an iron fist, by all means, get iPad 3.
If you are your own unique person who can decide what you want on your own, I strongly suggest a lil green robot.

I first tried the tf300 because it has the jb update but went to the infinity for its display. Once it gets jb you won't see lag any longer with it. I also tried the new ipad but returned it quickly, ios just too boring for me.

[Q] How solid is the current build of the TF700

I have had a my TF201 for a few months and love it. I got the GPS dongle coz I could but don't really use GPS and for me the WiFi seems to work OK (but not exceptionally)
I am now thinking of selling the TF201 and replacing it with the Infinity but I am a bit worried about reports of flimsy screen attachments and power/volume buttons etc. I don't have any of these issues with my TF201 but as I am planning to buy from overseas it would be a pain if the Infinity turned out to be one with manufacturing defects.
I am just wondering whether ASUS have addressed some of these issues and maybe later ones have less issues?
I did have a dock on my TF201 but I am unsure whether I will bother doing the same with the Infinity as I found that I did not use it that much and probably an onscreen keyboard would do. I can always buy a TF700 keyboard later if I miss it too much

First off, the TF201 dock is compatible with the TF700 -- I have one attached and it was retailed by ASUS this way. That would eliminate the need to buy something else "specifically made" for the 700. (You do not even have to take my word for this, as there is a picture-laden breakdown of both "types" (read: labels) of docks somewhere in here.)
Secondly, I strongly doubt there is anything like a "current" vs. an "old" build of the Infinity. That doesn't have to be a bad thing in itself... As has been said before, by both myself and many others: any internet presence is always negatively biased, as the people having no issues -- or, if I may put it slightly more bluntly, are not looking for issues --are just out there sitting in the shade with a funny cocktail watching whatever HD it is they watch on their 700s. I'd wager this is a large part of the TF700 buyers. We're far more critical users than the average buyer, who is probably just blown away by the performance, doesn't know better and doesn't need to.
I, for one, would happily buy again, in terms of both software performance (when unlocked/rooted/CleanROM'ed) and hardware build quality.

I must admit, I was reluctant to buy my tab based on the negative reviews I was reading. I finally took the plunge and couldn't be happier. I have zero complaints about build quality, and my only minor gripe is the I/O performance, which isn't that bed when considering overall performance...
My tab has C80 serial number, but I'm not sure it's relevant...

All positive here.

Build quality has been fine for me.
Of course, anyone saying it's flimsy, would proclaim it was too bulky and heavy if it was not the light weight product it is. I prefer light over bulky. Some folks, you can never please them...

I had a 201 before changing over to the 700. The 700 is what the 201 should have been in the first place. The internet is so much better, and the overall performance is so much improved. With Jelly Bean, any concerns I might had had or over. Just very happy with my tablet!

By "Issues" I have seen reports of creaky,loose glass screens, flimsy power on & volume buttons(compared to TF201) and screen cracking because the dock does not appear to close properly in some instances
I thought that ASUS might have taken this on board and maybe tightened manufacturing to overcome the loose screen glass...which probably contributes to some of the broken screens
As you say it is usually the ones with the issues that will post to these forums and there do not appear to be too many complaints given the high numbers of units that must now be out there.

You might want to see if Best Buy can help. I've heard stories of taking their TF201 into Best Buy without a receipt or anything and Best Buy will basically "exchange" it for a TF700. I believe Best Buy and Asus have teamed up to offer some sort of "buy back" program for the TF201 since it was basically a faulty device (wifi & GPS issues).
You may want to see if Best Buy can help before trying to sell it and taking a huge loss...

With my luck that would be the case...except I am in New Zealand and its a bit far from here to the closest Best Buy. One thing you guys in the USA have going for you is your Consumer Guarantee Laws. Manufacturers seem more afraid of Class Actions in USA than other parts of the world and more willing to come to the aid of the consumer.
I won't take too big a hit if I sell it as I have set my price a tad below what I bought it for (in New Zealand) and I can import a 700 for not a lot more direct from USA.I can write off any loss against my tax as I bought it as a company "computer"
If I don't get my price then I'll hang on to it a bit longer as I am quite happy with it in general but thought it would be nice to upgrade if possible.
