[Q] Will you be getting Asus Prime?

News are out with most specs detailed about the Asus Prime. Will you be getting one?
In my personal opinion, Asus Transformer is better looking (brown is more inviting than cold aluminum), it has better proportions, it doesn't look like iPad2, and 4 cores aren't necessary.
Why aren't 4 cores necessary? Because tablets aren't PCs. They are consumption devices and they are used for couch surfing and Gizmodo reading.
Games don't make sense on tablets either because the dynamics are so cumbersome. So even if the Prime will be pulling games like Shadowgun, is that really important? Every game I've played I ended up getting tired of trying to properly position myself so that I can used my hands for both controlling the game and holding my tablet.
Anyways, Transformer pulls HD video and really... what more could you need?

I'm waiting to pick one up, because after getting my tf101 at launch, the old lady wants her own.

Unless someone wants to buy my rooted b50 TF101/dock for the price 9of a Prime, I will not be getting the Prime. For some of the tasks I use my TF for, the Tegra 3 would probably be useful. For the cost it is just not worth it. If there is a follow up to the Prime next year or ditto the year after, I will ****ly then u0grade to the then current device. I'm waiting for the 3rd or 4th Gen, and to see if there [i[will[/i] be, before I invest further.
Right now the only reason I could see to upgrade would be if they blew off giving us ICS, and by the time it is worth it to me to upgrade for that, both the Prime and Android 4.0 will be outdated.

ACtually if you read the technical reviews of Tegra3, then you'd know by now, that the prime (tablet alone) will last longer on battery than the TF101 - well it's just paperform, so the first tests will reveal.
But I won't get one, maybe the summer next fall

just bought a secondhand transformer so I don't really see me getting another tablet until next year.

The answer is: maybe. I probably could buy it for my company (less tax to pay then) but I won't unless it's really much better than Transformer in regards to playing movies for example. As a game developer I also don't want to have the fastest device out there so I can test on more slower devices (I bought old used phone for that reason). But I want to make 3D games next year, so maybe targeting Tegra3 with it won't be so stupid, I don't know yet.

Well ... I really want to get one, but I will wait until it has been rooted, a 3G version is available, and other Tegra 3 Tablets are released, so the price will drop!
...But the problem when waiting for Tech always is, that you are then dealing with an maybe outdated product ... maybe I will end up getting a Windows 8 Tablet
The Transformer Prime should be getting Windows 8 / ICS Dual-Boot ... I would buy it immediately.

As I'm going to install ubuntu on my TF soon (I tried it before when it was not simpleton-friendly and you had to fix wifi and stuff yourself and I was too lazy to figure it out ), I doubt I'll need a TF prime to satisfy my curiosity with new things. But to be honest, I like the copper/brown feel more because when I see that kind of metallic finish, it just brings that disgusting metal on metal sound to my ears (or head, since technically I don't actually hear it, just the memory of it).

I agree, the brown is so much friendly looking. The aluminum is so cold and unpleasent, it also looks quite bad - not to mention how easily it should scratch.
The current transformer's back is so nice, its not cold, it doesn't scratch, its easier to grip and most importantly it's not a fingerprint magnet!

I would like a pink version. Pink is my favorite color.

I have seen a lot of things saying it won't. Yet another reason I won't be doing business with Asus anymore

I'm passing. My TF does all I need it to do right now and I cannot see a compelling reason on the horizon to dump what works.

I got my tf on launch day. I think the prime is exactly what I want build wise. Much thinner, I like the look over the LV-ish brown, dock is slimmer. I really can't wait for it. People are saying its more expensive but its really the same price. It starts at 32 gb instead 16gb for 499 which was what the 32gb tf 1 was. I wont get it on launch day (can't afford it but would if I could)
When I got the dock for the tf I never thought I'd use for anything more than battery power and a stand to watch movies on in bed but the more time I used it, the more and more I used the dock and now can't see having one and not have a dock.

I have to say "Yes, please!" I personally don't own a tablet yet so for me I think it is a good buy. Also after using a friends for a few days some of the docs, pdf, spread sheets ran ok but, I wish it would be a little faster. So I am hoping that the prime will make some of that more snappy.
Been hawking the web just to find a preorder, i really want one. My wife already hates me due to my droid phone compaired to her Iphone. Now I cant wait to see how this stacks up to her ipad. She is starting to hate apple hoping this will be the nail in the coffin.

ASUS Build quality issues?

I have been on the market for an Android 10 inch tablet for close to a year. I have watching several of the devices that have come on the market there. I like the iPad for some things but I hate the proprietary nature and many other numerous issues to list.
Back to my original question though
I have been following reviews online and this is probably the 3rd or 4th time that I have seen reviews on Amazon.com or other sites that the ASUS TF700 has some "build quality issues" they have pointed out problems with the tablet making a squeaky noise when pressing on the glass in some areas and it appearing that the "glue is coming loose". I wanted to say that if I'm spending $500+ on a device. I want it to work, and work well, and not have to replace it in a year or less.
Another comment I have seen is that its sluggish when doing "heavy multitasking". I plan to do quite a bit of multitasking on it and wondered what other user's experiences are. I have read that ASUS will release the Jelly Bean update to this device and I would expect that this may help with some of that.
One of the reasons that I'm certainly considering going with the ASUS over the other tablets is that I prefer ASUS devices on other platforms. I have an ASUS laptop that originally came with Windows Vista (that tells you how dated it is). It's probably 4-5 years old at this point and it's still working off the original AC adapter, original battery and it still works flawlessly. I have owned several ASUS motherboards that work perfectly and last.
I wanted your opinions, since you guys are the Android tablet guru's and I've read some of the other posts. Even the one about the squeakiness by the speaker. But I' m wondering if this is a common issue or one to be concerned about.
One last thing is that I noticed there is an Atmel stylus that might be compatible with it. Has anyone purchased and used one yet? If so, what do you think about it? I'm seriously considering the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 as well because of this stylus capability and the 2GB of ram in there. Money is not that much of a problem since I will be using gift cards (like up to $700 worth) to buy it.

Yes, Asus definitely has some quality-control issues, but if you do get a "bad" one, you can always just return it for another. Personally, my TF700 is fine - some minor light bleed on the bottom and right sides, but it's only noticeable at full brightness, which I'll never use anyway. I don't have the clicking/squeaking noise either. I truly believe that most of these issues are very minor and most folks wouldn't even notice them if they weren't looking for them.
Don't let this hold you back from an awesome tablet - that's why they make warranties! My original TF101 is still running great (hardware-wise, at least - ICS is another story!) - never had any hardware issues with it and my wife still uses it daily.

I'm surprised. From what I see here, I think I got one of the nicer tablets. My screen has no obvious light bleeds, no dust trapped under the glass, or scratches. The display is bonded firmly and doesn't squeak. I guess it may be potluck with the build quality, but mine is built well.
Like jtrosky said, if you get a bad one, you can exchange it.

First one had dust under screen.
Second had huge bright white crater-like defect in center of screen. Really bad defect - can't understand how that passed quality control.
Third one is perfect....so far....

Asus should stay with what they do best..build computers. They sucks with pad, problems after problems. The TF700 is not ready for prime time. They did the 201 and still making too many mistake with the 700. I can named many like, USB,SB card, I/O bottle neck, phone jack volume, noise when pressed on glass, not fitting well with dock..and on and on. I would wait for Samsung Note 10.1.

But then what would be the alternative: Acer? Apple? Samsung where you're stuck on the same firmware forever?
I think the problem is the separation of design and production these days. These tablets are made by faceless Chinese workers, and then shipped over here. Its not like it used to be where the factory workers and the manufacturer and quality control were all in one place. In fact, do we even know if ASUS ever even sees the tablets after they leave the factory and get shipped to the warehouse?
You should be honored. You're now an ASUS employee - we get to inspect the tablets and return the defective ones - we're quality control technicians!

Asus sold the product, they're 100% responsible for their product, doesn't matter how/where they were made. I payed Asus with my own hard working money and I do have the right to complaint when the product is not working as advertise. I will be glad to contribute my free time to test for them for free if they allowed me to have the product for FREE.

That sounds nice. But you have to vote with your wallet. And the public already has. People want cheap stuff. The Chinese make cheap stuff. So regardless of weather ASUS is responsible or not, if people continue to buy it, why would ASUS have any reason to change? The days of real premium quality merchandise are over.
Every product on the face of the planet is now made in one place. We chose to abandon our factories and manufacturing facilities. So cheap lower quality stuff is now the norm.

I was in the same boat as you, waiting for a 10" tablet that I thought fit my needs and was worth the premium we pay for tablet devices.
I was concerned about quality as well. I kept seeing all kinds of stories on the forums (loose glass, dust, light bleed, etc). I ordered from Amazon knowing that it would be easy to return if there was a problem, but mine is just fine and fortunately has none of the problems that some other people have had.
Re: multitasking - I do a lot of multitasking. I usually have it on "balanced" mode and it's super smooth. It slows down a very little bit when I'm updating 2+ apps simultaneously, and the odd occasion where I'm running multiple CPU-intensive apps, but I just switch to "performance" mode for that short period of time and it's back to being snappy.
If you get a bad one, just return it immediately and get a new one. I'm loving this tablet =)

Thanks, I appreciate your input. I think I may end up going with it. We'll see...The samsung note 10.1 doesn't even disclose how much it will cost yet. I'm worried that even $700 may not be enough. I have heard some rumors of around $750. Plus, I don't know how much I would honestly use the Stylus. It would be a fun toy, but not practical for day to day use for me most likely. I'm so used to using touch interfaces all my other android tablet devices and a prior iPhone now anyway.

Keep in mind as well that it'd usually not the happy people that write or speak out. Its often the dissatisfied. There are plenty of happy and satisfied users out there as well.

Got my T700 a couple weeks ago
I've had enough time to grow accustomed to it and I love it so far. I can see what same are saying about the build quality issues. The glass feels slightly loose in some areas but not so much that it would come apart.

[Q] Purchase advice for Asus TF700t 64GB please

I am on the fence between the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and the TF700T infinity. Any thoughts you all may have please share. The pen isn't a deal breaker for me, but the KB dock for the TF700 could be a real deal maker. I like the concept of a tablet book. Not to mention the hi-rez screen and some pretty impressive CPU/GPU specs.
I also have thoughts of waiting for the next product release cycle from both Asus and Samsung to see what the future may hold.
Fell free to coment... positive, negative please feel free to fend the good the bad and the ugly/beautiful...I'll put my big boy panties on; so let it rip.

I was on the same fence. I decided on this over the Note b/c
I like that the dock has a battery to help charge the tablet
I like the extra storage accommodations in the dock
I love the HD screen
I like the feel of brushed metal as opposed to plastic

I could not be happier with my Infinity. Wait for what Asus makes to trump it and you'll be waiting till 2013. The device just came to the USA a few months ago, so it's still relatively new.

Make sure you physically use the Infinity before you dump that much money out, specially for the 64mb model. For that price and the dock you can buy a pretty powerful i7 laptop with a great screen. Regarding the Infinity the specs and numbers look great on paper but when you use it, it doesn't seem like the same thing as on paper. The JellyBean update did make it more smooth, but regular conventional browsing it jerks around when doing a simple scroll through a website. I've learned specially with technology that "specs" on paper do not necessarily coincide with the real world. If I could install Android on my wife's iPad I would LOVE to do that as I think th Apple hardware and quality is fantastic and proven.

bradslinux - As usual, the only person who can really decide is you. Because you'll always get answers that are all over the map here.
I was reading here before buying and thinking I might encounter issues such as those mentioned above and others people claimed to experience. But, it turns out my experience with the Infinity has been great and I'm not having such issues. (I've always prefered using XScope for my web browsing, 2nd place Dolphin, 3rd place Firefox, stock always is last place with me even with Chome. And it was like that with me even before I had the Infinity.) No physical laptop is as light as the Infinity with its dock and everything from web browsing to everything else has been a pleasure and a breeze to perform. Plus, you can't detach the screen from a laptop and the Infinity with just the screen is so light it's scary :laugh: .
You can even read in the threads about the JB update, there are people who are happy like me and others who are upset. Of course it's best to factory reset after the update, but even with that there are some happy afterwards and some who are sad. (If you like root, be sure to read about how to handle that before doing the JB update.)
Nobody can answer the question but you.
Every single Android device I buy, I see tons of complaints about, and every single time I get it I'm so much happier than the complaints. But that's how it has been for me. I know what I like and I like the Infinity .

I couldn't agree more as far as the positives.
Had my 32 gig gray Infin for over 2 months and have few complaints.
I'm not one of the "lucky" I am just a gadget consumer who bought a product that more than fulfilled it's ability.
If all the apps in the play store were written for tablets like this one I believe there would minimal *****ing about this thing.
I'm one of the buyers that thinks this tab may just be future enabled...

I'm spoiled with the ease with which I could root and unlock my Galaxy Nexus, and have been trying different radios, kernels and ROMs for months, with virtually no worries, no complexity. I'm new to the Infinity, so the complexities and uncertainty about NVflash (too late for me), unlocking and rooting once JB is installed, etc, is still a bit bewildering in comparison to the GNEx (I have lots of reading to do) -- and I'm finding it irritating so far. That said, even with stock JB installed, and Apex Pro and Beautiful Widgets (and HD widgets - still deciding which I like better on this device), I'm finding the TF700T to be a pretty amazing device.
I took it out "for a spin" today -- into NYC by train, on a couple of subways, and to a couple of meetings. I purposely did NOT carry a backpack or briefcase, took no laptop, no laptop brick, etc. The Infinity and dock, in a simple slipcase, was the only "business tool" I brought with me in addition to a phone today.
On the train into NY and even in the NYC subways (Verizon has picocells in the train tunnels), my Galaxy Nexus had a strong signal, so I flipped on it's Wi-Fi hotspot and my TF700T was connected the entire time I was traveling. Sweet!
At the business meetings, I opened up a few PowerPoint presentations I had copied on the device before my trip. The display was so bright and clear that the presentations looked great on the 10.1" screen -- and I was able to pass the tablet itself around for people to look at, navigate through slides, etc. Incredibly effective.
On the way home, I assembled notes from the day, marked up the presentations. I used it as a primary email client for the day. Amazingly (for me, coming from a Galaxy Nexus as a reference point), I used the device for several hours today, the display was amazing even in the brightest light- and I essentially did everything needed with a fraction of what I would normally carry for a business day in the New York. After many hours of use, I had barely dented the battery charge -- this is really pretty amazing. As bright as clear as the display is,it is apparently pretty energy efficient.
Anyway - between functionality, usability, elegance, battery life and sheer portability, this is clearly going to have a big impact on my days as a "road warrior".
Honestly - the only thing seriously giving me second thoughts is increasingly real sounding speculation about a Google / Samsung Galaxy Nexus 10.1 in the works, with 2560 x 1600 resolution (among other things). I have a strong feeling that I'll be wanting that new device when it comes out. But for now, the TF700T strikes me as the best device available in its class-- at least for my purposes.

Wow...as a commensurate gadgeteer myself I would just love something like this alleged Google / Samsung Galaxy Nexus 10.1 with 2560 x 1600 resolution.

I can't compare the two. There's plenty of information here and the net comparing the two for you to make judgement on what will suit your needs and desires.
If you do choose the Infinity, I would suggest going with the smaller 32GB version because the cost of the larger is not money well spent. Since the Infinity has the SDHC/XC slot, you can get a lot more storage for the money in that route. Heck, wait for a sale, and you can get a lot more. Personally, I went with the smaller unit. Picked up the Scandisc 64GB microSDXC card for $50. I hardly use any storage on the internal, so even the SC card is a bit of waste. Really, unless you're going to have hundreds of apps, thousands of songs, or a lot of video stored, you really don't need that much memory.
Also, if you want to save a few dollars, you can pick up the dock for the Prime, TF201. It's the same thing, just a different color. It's nice you want want the extra battery, SD card slot, or USB ports. If you just want the keyboard, I would suggest just getting a blue tooth keyboard since you can use it on more than one device. It's essentially what I did, but I already had a portable keyboard I used with my smartphone.
If you're really indecisive, see if someone lives near you and see if you can meet up and check out their device. Handling is always better than reading.

I was just thinking about that myself. Mixed feelings though. I love having the extra battery in the dock. Keyboard is nice, but I tend to prefer Swype, even on a tablet. (using it now).

Thanks everybody for the remarks and opinions. No longer on the fence, I just popped for the 64gb version w/dock kb and a nice leather case. It should be in my hands tomorrow with the case following behind early next week. The biggest deciding factor for me was the "Keyboard vs "S" Pen" arguement, the KB won it.
All the responses I received only go to further my appreciation of what the XDA community has to offer.
My greatest difficulty will be in NOT installing a custom ROM right out of the box. LOL

Sold my TF700 for an ipad 4gen.

I'm not here to argue of which is better but i made the decision after trying so many android tablets. I love android, the widgets, home screen customization, etc. i just felt that the apps are not well optimize (this is not android fault). I really thought that JB butter smooth (even with clean rom installed which i was using) was smooth or smoother than IOS ipad 4gen, boy was i wrong. This is so smooth from the get go, no tweaking, overclocking, etc. I love android for phone (own a GS3) but after using so many android tabs, apps still need alot of work. One thing i have to say about IOS, it looks so outdated, but the apps are more fluid and more polish than android.
i have to say that what really surprise me was Windows 8 tablet. I was at bestbuy trying the new Asus vivo and was blown away by the OS. In the future depending on the apps avail it could be my first choices for tablet.

I really thought that JB butter smooth (even with clean rom installed which i was using) was smooth or smoother than IOS ipad 4gen, boy was i wrong. This is so smooth from the get go, no tweaking, overclocking, etc. I love android for phone (own a GS3) but after using so many android tabs, apps still need alot of work. One thing i have to say about IOS, it looks so outdated, but the apps are more fluid and more polish than android.
i have to say that what really surprise me was Windows 8 tablet. I was at bestbuy trying the new Asus vivo and was blown away by the OS. In the future depending on the apps avail it could be my first choices for tablet.

I respect your decision, but I do think you stepped out of the game at the wrong time
Seeing how the Nexus 10 is given such a warm welcome, my guess would be that a lot of developers will now also create/optimise apps for tablets.
Like I said: I think the logical switch would have been the other way around, but that's just me
pS: Let us know how you like the development section for the iPad and which custom Rom and/or kernel you like the best. And what voltage and clock speeds you'll be using on your new ... Oh right .... It's an Apple

Thats my point, i have been using android since i can remember. never was happy the way it was shipped out, always needed to rooted it and install customized rom to get it to work faster. Ipad is just perfect from the get go, TF700 tegra 3 overclocked or my other samsung note 10.1 with quad eynox could not run the games, apps, browser, smoothnes like an ipad 4gen. Again not bashing android but the true have to be said and i was one of the apple hater never to buy an apple product.
Second which i did not mention. with apple you don't have to worrry about quality control issues. Seems that they really inspect their devices. no dead pixesl, NO SCREEN SEPARATION, no BACKLIGHT BLEEDING, SCRATCHES from manufacture and other things. i exchanged my asus tablet 5 times until getting a decent one. From now i can only say that Nexus 10 has backlight issues in most of them.
EDIT: things i really miss, having built in hdmi, having a microsd slot, having files just plug in pc drag and drop.

Yes, just like u can find plenty of thread from people who have switch from TF700 to Note 10.1

Yeah iPad 4 even the previous new iPad (3) was pretty quick and snappy, but so is the spectacular-ness of the Blackberry Playbook browser.
I own a Playbook, but I find it's GUI to be about as boring as iOS on the iPad.
Android 4.x (that's ICS, Jellybean and what ever after) GUI has more depth which I like.
Windows 8's new Start menu (Metro) GUI just looks pretty generic to me, and I already know the RT batches of Surface tablets and partner Win RT tablets are inferior by the fact that they are RT and not intel.
I've already seen folks complain about the Surface RT the same problems we see on our Android ARM tablets. So it would be wise to wait to January 2013 when Microsoft unleashes the real PC tablets, Windows 8 Pro powered by Intel i5, i7 and next gen Atom cpu.

Why all the hate people? Like it or not the apps on iOS are better. iOS has been and still is smoother than any android device. This guy is not lying when he says that the iPad is good straight out of the box.
Don't be fanboys. Accept the fact that android needs work (at least on the tablet side of things).
There are times when this tablet (infinity) has passed me off, with its random freezes and hardware issue. Hopefully with the nexus 10 out, developers will start making tablet optimized apps (and hopefully soon Google makes a tablet specific section in the play store, so we don't have to guess which app is for tablets!!!).
Google really needs to set specific hardware requirements and needs to really work on smoothness. For example, screen rotation on the iPad is unbelievably smooth, it like the screen is on a pivot. While rotating it on android looks very choppy and it drops frames.
What pisses me off about iOS tho is the lack of (access) to a file system and its closed system. So still tho android all the way.

I guess to each his own because I have an ipad3 within arms reach and I choose my infinity every time. My son and wife use the ipad though so it's not completely unused. I used the ipad3.. gave it a chance, but I didn't find it to be omg smoother. I didn't find the retina display to be omg better either. What I did find is that I love the keyboard and that without it, the extra battery, and the added storage, the ipad will just sit there as long as I have a choice to pick up my infinity. Not saying you made the wrong choice, just saying to each his own. peace

I'm iPodless untill mid-february just because of their lousy customer support. And I've already heard it's been declared dead, so I get a 70% refund (because I paid for the additional 3 (ahem, official+2) years insurance) but not untill the thing comes back from the factory. In China. For which I have to pay the transport costs myself. And guess what isn't for sale anymore. That's right, the iPod nano 5th. I have to pay 100 euros extra just because they messed up, plus extra costs for yet another cover and such. And a new docking station, because my 300 euro Bose one won't fit anymore. FU Apple.
Asus might refuse to fix your device for free if you unlocked it, but that's a choice you make. If you open up your Xbox, you void warranty just as much because of the seal on it. Unlocking is no different, other than that it's done via software. But at least they have a decent warranty for 3 years, and you can just send it back if it breaks. They don't make you jump through 50 hoops just to get in touch with the store, because you have 'non-itunes originating music on your ipod'. At least Asus doesn't whine about something which is bloody legal here!.
Just for the record, thousands of people DID get a decent Infinity straight away. It's just that some people don't appear to be smart enough to realize that if you get two broken tablets from the same store in a short space of time, the whole shipment might be faulty. They just keep going back and getting more broken ones, and blame Asus for it...

Really? So I guess all those reports of iPhones 5 coming out of the box all scratched up were bunk, right? I guess all those backlight bleeding topics about iPads were all made up too? I guess the yellow tinging of screens that was blamed on glue not being dry from factory didn't actually pop up?
Know what the fact is? It's all luck of the draw. I've been at this board for 4 days now, but these topics "I got xxxxx, see you later!" as if you're rubbing it in everyone's face is moronic at best. No one cares if you jumped ship and got a different tablet.

I think this ^^ pretty much sums it up. Why the hell should we care what you've sold and/or bought? This is the Infinity forum -- go to the Apple forums and tel them how happy you are. They're bound to like it, whereas here the entire forum gets clogged up.

I gave my wife an ipad. Trust me, first impression is that its great hardware, but its not the ipad thats the problem, its Apple. The longer you use it for day to day stuff, the more you will realize how much freedom you gave up. A year from now, you r going to have wifi issues, ramdom locking and no way to fix them and no community to turn to. Anyways, good luck to you and come back and let us know how your experience with ipad goes after several months. Really looking forward to hear about it.
By the way, i offered her to buy her a newer model ipad and she flat out refused. She never wants to deal with apples bull**** again. I never loved that women more.

I really feel burned by Asus. My $500 tablet runs so slow and laggy. I've rooted it and run Cromi-X on it, which helps a little but the experience overall is still frustrating.
What drew me to the Transformer was the idea of the keyboard battery dock with expandable ports. However, even that's not worth it now.
I really feel like I got suckered into buying a high end tablet made with very, very low end memory components.
Do you think Asus will let us exchange our tablets for the newer model (and hopefully that newer model actually works)?

That was something Best Buy did for their costumers. If it was something Asus wanted to be done then they would have notified customers who registered their devices like they did when they released the gps dongle. That was a true hardware mess up and an easier way to fix the problem for them. Technically speaking the Tf700 works to advertised manufacture specifications. Does that mean the device has its flaws, no. Since you did unlock it you made the decision to forgo any warranty on it if it's a less than a year old. If they were to do a swap out then it's their choice to include unlocked devices. Live in the EU then you have other protections.
To anyone still in their return window, if the tablet doesn't perform to what you desire then return it. It won't get drastically better. If you are still within a year you can try constantly rma and someone might issue you an exchange or return, if you get lucky. Otherwise unlock it if warranty is up and see the advances the developer community has made. The tablet really is a different device.

Based on reviews from users, apparently the TF701T is everything our TF700T should have been, minus the reboot problems (ASUS seems to have fixed it with a recent update, but obviously it is just speculation from a few owners of the TF701T) and the slight heat under heavy use. Having said that, to be fair, the TF700 has no hardware problems, even if the internal storage is slow, it is not defective in any ways, hardware-wise anyway. Personally I don't think it is right to demand such exchange from ASUS. Furthermore, my guess is that the Transformer line in general does not sell very well (I have yet to see any TF300 or TF700 being used in public, ever, only iPads and Galaxy Tabs), so we as a whole already account for a very small portion of ASUS' net income. Introducing such exchange program would most likely reduce that little profit even further and no business would do that. Lastly, such exchange program would also give a very bad signal to potential customers since it implies that ASUS' products are so defective that they need to be exchanged. It just doesn't make sense to me.

We should, but we won't get it
It would be nice if Asus offered the exchange, or a program to give a partial credit on return of the tf700t towards an upgrade. I paid for a premium tablet only to find that it was hopelessly crippled. My Nook tablet often does better...less lag. Frankly, if Asus admitted it's mistake I would stay a customer. As it is, I don't think I will ever buy another of their products. Sad, I had high hopes.

If y'all think this tablet is so bad that its parent company should provide a replacement for every one it ever sold, why did you keep it for an entire year?
I'm honestly not trying to flame you guys. We're a community and I love you all. You just have to acknowledge that every device has its quirks. Apple and Nexus devices included. Even if IO performance leads to some lag, on a functional level there is nothing this device is incapable of doing. From where I'm standing nothing was ever defective. As a matter of fact, when this thing came out it was best in class in terms of performance, IO issues included.

Was it not for the broken dock pins I would not trade this tablet for anything currently on the market. Except the TF701 maybe - once Teamwin releases a custom recovery.
I just snagged some wallpapers sbdags stole from the TF701 stock rom and redid my homescreens - and I'm in love all over again!
I really feel for all you guys disappointed by this tablet - especially if you did try CROMi-X.
And I have to admit I don't get it. My tab runs like a dream on CROMi-X.
The only thing that could lure me away would be true split screen functionality - and not like on the Note 10 just for some apps - TRUE split screen functionality.

The only reason i brought this tablet was for running linux on, and for that it works great. Linux seems to deal with IO differently than android, general usage is far less noticeable, you only really see it, during write jobs, heavy io tasks like installing big packages.
If you are unimpressed by Android on this tablet, give Linux a chance

I don't know what you meant by "true split screen", but if you mean running any 2 apps side by side, you can always root the Note 10.1 and install Multi Windows Manager on the Play Store and you will be able to use Multi Window for any apps. My friend showed it to me once, I don't know how usable this Multi Window Manager is, but it is there if you need it.

Ive been wondering how omni rom is on a tablet, their splitscreen implementation is perfect on my phone. im going to let it mature a bit and if noones built it, i will. a better alternative is X11

I'm very tempted to try and port OmniRom - there is multiwindow facility on it that works very well (on N7000). Very much still in development but working great already.
