Hum, not really seeing the utility, should just get the phone you want, the tablet you want and then, invest in a good syncing apps? looks weird too...

I like the way it looks, I for one love this idea cause I'm always misplacing my phone and I'd rather have all my info and apps in 1 device, for instance if you're playing a game on the go, and you come home, you can plug it into the dock and play the same game, instead of having 2 different devices. I think it looks better than the TF. My only concern is price. Cause I don't really care about it being 1 mm thinner than an iPad or 1 mm thicker, unless its 2 inches thicker, I don't care, also don't care too much about weight as long as its under 2.5lbs. As long as it has a quality build, and the price isn't way out there than I am very interested in this.

We dont know if the phone is going to be supplying the gpu and cpu just yet. I bet the tab will work with out the phone and cost 400$ and plugging in an optional phone will do sonething else to the tablet.

I'm also glad there focus is not all on how thin it is like samsung. Rather waist time on being diffrent than looking at apples notes and ideas to copy.

Perhaps the tablet works by itself, but popping in the phone provides 3G/4G connectivity and phone functionality (e.g., SMS, voicemail, taking calls through the tablet). If they went crazy and made it compatible with the Transformer dock, I'd be sold. Doesn't look like they did, however.
Very cool concept. Looks like Asus is working hard to be the real innovator in this new space.

There's no latching points on either of two longer sides, so no, it looks like it's not compatible with the Transformer's dock. That's a really pity, because I'd love a phone/tablet/netbook all-in-one. Having said that, I think something like that would be more suited to a Tegra 3 chip.

i think its a great look, use the phone for daily use pop in in a tab for leasure and movie watching and news reading. I mean come on no crazy latch on keyboard like the motorola atrix <--huge fail. If your gonna do a phone slash tab all in one this is the way to do it.

Wouldn't make much sence imo . Then your forced to carry everything to use the phone function

Not seeing a dock connector at the bottom. Shame. Bit of a waste. But I'd never buy a slate phone anyway regardless of its docking options.

Although I admire their innovation given that a lot of android devices end up the same, I think it looks dire. That bulge at the back sucks. The fact that your phone will be stuck in the tablet when you get a call sucks as well. Also I highly doubt this tablet is going to be running honeycomb, as it will almost certainly run from the phone's hardware, and that in itself is reason enough not to buy one if you ask me. I imagine it will end up being 2.2/2.3 with custom ui over the top like on the prototype transformer. Just my guess though.

I used to live in the bay area back before cell towers provided internet service and we had to use these cool custom radios that were about the size of a walki-talkie to get our mobile internet. Our solution for integrating the mobile internet to our laptops was this really sweet invention called Velcro... I'm thinking if the folks at Asus had seen my 2001 laptop they might have opted for Velcro too instead of adding a glove box to a tablet.

is the dock worth the price?

Hi guys, is the dock really worth the price point? Do you think its a must have accessory for the transformer? How have the dock improved your whole experience with the transformer? I have about $100 amazon gift credits left after selling my text books.

Personally for me, yes, with the two USB slots, the extended battery life, the SD card slot, the keyboard and mousepad, and a way of protecting the screen of the tablet

I also debated about getting the dock. I believed I could really use it for school, so I bought it, but there were a few complictions non-device related. I then debated about returning it, but every aspect about it is amazing to me.
At night I throw my transformer on the dock and let them both charge fully, I wake up in the morning and throw my transformer and dock into my backpack, just in case I have a class where the notes are just extremely long. During free periods I pull it out and just mess around(I am a high school student). I dont get home until late every day so my tablet easily last all day.
From here I will just list the benefits, lol.
My transformer has been used down to 50% I reach in my bag and throw it on th dock, leave and come back my tablet is juiced and ready to go.
I want to browse the web fo a while, so I throw on the dock and get typing...i hate using the on-screen keyboard sometimes.
I open up XDA and browse a couple tablet forums and read their woes and trolls, and sometimes respond...with the keyboard.
I have a file on a flash drive or on my Phone and I want it on my transformer quickly to view and edit...(usb ports help out here)
The quick hotkeys at the top of the keyboard on the dock are amazing, I am always using one of those for something every minute.
Touchpad does not get used much due to having a display that can be touched
The coolnes factor, people ask me like, "ohhh you got another computer?!" im like nooooo this is my tablet, and pow undock it and blow their minds.

+1. Agree 100% with both these posts. I personally tested 3 other tablets and the dock with all the niceties it adds was the selling point on th TF for me. 4 others at my work have bought TF and all have the dock.

Get the dock! I didn't want to spend more money to get it as I thought I wouldn't use it much. But once I got it I use it all the time, the extra battery, using the dock to hold as a stand and plugging a usb mouse were the main reasons I got it.

At first (I ordered the TF the DAY it was released) I wasnt going to get the dock, I figured it's a tablet if I need a kb I'll use my netbook or laptop.. So then I got the dock on sale (when they were selling like hotcakes) and snatched it up for the deal.. plus I figured even if I didn't use it I had a spare battery, plus a nice little way to prop up the tablet in bed.... fast forward to today.. I use the dock just as much as the tablet by itself. Because of the dock, I now use my tablet in ways I would never if I had not had the dock. I now keep all my class notes on it (using ever note) which makes reading them on the go easy(without the dock) and makes taking notes during class much easier. I really do now find the dock VERY useful.. It pretty much has replaced my netbook (dell duo netbook/tablet)
So I would say yes, in the long run the dock is most certainly worth the price (in my situation it was)

oh wow! Thank you so much for the informative responds. I will definitely get it! I still have few questions. Does it lag when you type on websites like it does on the screen keyboard? I use a chromebook for school. Hows the weight compared tot the chromebook? And can you easily peel off that sticker on the keyboard? Because sometimes its hard to take that off in some laptops and it will leave a mark.

I know many people have stated otherwise, and if I remember correctly engadget even tried it out. But the official site clearly states that the prime dock will not work on the infinity.

Very interesting, I read the same that Engadget TF201 Dock works.....we need some real testers then.

I can confirm the dock for the TF201 works perfectly with my TF700T
But... the colors are not quite the same... I have a grey TF700T and the grey of the TF201 dock is a lot darker and purple than the tablet

I can also confirm. I bought a dockless TF700 and a TF201 dock, they worked together flawlessly form the start.
The brack.ch site markets the dock as "ASUS EEE PAD Transformer TF201/TF700 Dockingstation"

How is the color?

Every review/unboxing video ive seen on youtube had a prime dock. And as you might know that stuff gets sent to them by Asus themselves. So I'd take that compatibility-sentence on their homepage with a grain of salt. Thats basically them trying to make even more money off the uninformed people (which is like 85% of the customers).
If I didnt already preorder the whole package (dock/tablet) i would have bought the prime dock. I might even sell my infinity dock and get the prime one if it really gives more battery and the colour aint significantly different from the tablet.

Another thing I just saw now... the tablet and the dock don't fit perfectly. There is a gap like 2-3mm where the tablet is more to the front

It seems some early adopters are getting the Infinity bundled with the old Keyboard. I saw a picture in the post above and the prime keyboard doesn´t sit too well on the infinity when closed/clapped together.
Can someone who bought both tablet and dock confirm if this is true?

I got mine today and can confirm it.
My TF700T came with a TF201 Dock (bundled that way by Asus, I guess).
After looking at that picture above I saw that my combination also shows that small gap, but Its such a minor difference that my guess is that it's meant that way.
I think the real infinity dock might show that gap too because it fits perfectly on any other part. The gap seems to come from the rubber spacer left and right of the keyboard.
But who cares for these minor differences? Personally I'd prefere the old Dock because the battery is stronger and all other specs are excactly the same. **
** comparing the specs at Asus' website it seems the new dock will be 1cm thinner but 20g heavier AND has the smaller battery, so I concider myself lucky to get the old one

Question to the ones who have the dock already: Do you find yourselves using the dock a lot other than for the apparent reasons such as battery life and USB port?
The reason I'm asking is that I'm thinking of buying the dock, but I'm a bit unsure wether this is a "need" or a "want". I get that if you're a writer/columnist, a keyboard dock is great, but it'd be nice to get some personal opinions from others on wether the dock turned out to be a "must have" in everyday use or if it's really just an appendage to get more battery life so to speak.

It's really nice as an extra charger while on the run. Plus a full USB port and a full SD card slot are a great addition when moving larger amounts of data. But what makes in more like a laptop is the keyboard itself. I wouldn't be excited with the Infinity so much if not for the keyboard (the HD screen itself is great for sure, but still...). Touch screen is fun, but writting longer texts on it is pain for me (especially as it's not 100% responsive while typing fast, which I'm used to), I need a real keyboard, and the 93% keyboard is really fine (the right shift could be bigger, but hey... it's 10" and it's pretty easy to get accustomed!). On the other hand, I'll try to play with some non-standard keyboards during this weekend (the GO Keyboard was OK, but unfortunately not compatible with the dock) - on my list are LogiType, FloatNSplit, Thumb, SlideIT, Smart, Swiftkey and TouchPal keyboards, so a lot of testing to do...
BTW, I've just bought some cheap stylus (~3 EUR) to test the whole idea and it's great!

Sure, the quality is good, but it is not that much different than getting used to any netbook / small laptop keyboard. I am using the TF201 docking station, as this was the one I got bundled with TF700, BTW, but I believe it is not that much different from the upcoming "TF700 dedicated keyboard".
I'm planning on taking notes on this thing as a replacement for the dismal battery performance on my laptop, and the fact that it's lighter, thinner, and I can use a stylus to take notes as well.

I only don't like Polaris Office, I will be using either the free Kingsoft office suite (which is really great) or - if I decide to spend some more money - OfficeSuite Pro 6, which seems the most convenient for me so far. You should definitely give it a try if you want the Infinity to work as a replacement for your laptop.

I think I have a couple office applications already. Is SuperNote the bundled application with the tablet? I type much faster than I write, so I'm planning on just using the stylus for notes that I can't type (i.e. Math). Luckily for me, this semester I don't have a math class though....a lot of critical thinking classes like Philosophical Reasoning, Social Problems, and Beauty and Creativity. Stuff I'll need to take notes for of course, and this tablet will be incredibly helpful for doing that.
Now I have to figure out if buying the TF700 dock is the right idea, or buying the TF201 one is better.

I really like your set of classes, although the Beauty thing feels pretty unnerving ;>
And yes, SuperNote is bundled, as well as many other apps. See some reviews on YouTube or on the tech websites, many of them mentioned it already.
I cannot help you with the docking options, as I only got to use the TF201 one. If I had an option to choose, I would prefer to lay my hands on both IRL. It's a very personal thing, so I don't think that the reviews can answer it for you.

When sliding my tablet into the (bundled prime-)dock, the lock only jumps back to the middle position and has to be manually moved to the right/lock-position. I have read that this may be an issue with defunct docks and that these should be returned. Is that true? Or are all old prime docks "affected", making a return superfluous?
So far, it doesn't bother me too much, but I just want to make sure everything works as planned.

I think it's just the slight difference in size between the Prime and the Infinity. I've also observed this on my Prime dock + Infinity tablet bundle, sometime it clicks, sometime it's stuck half-way, but the tablet is docked normally, so it's only the lock/slider that has to be adjusted. For me certainly not a flaw which would justify returning it. But if you hope for a TF700 dock in return, you can try (possibly with more luck in a few weeks, when the latter is widely available?)

I've just bought a TF700 pad and it works fine with my TF201 docking station. I haven't noticed any inconsistency in colours or size (but then again, I'm not the kind of person for which that matters - as long as it works, it could be in Yellow and Green colours for all I care).
However, I have noticed one curious thing, that I would like some input on. I had bought a 64 Gb MicroSD card ( amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-microSDXC-Adapter-SDSDQUA-064G-U46A/dp/B007WTAJTO/ref=sr_1_4 ), and it works perfectly in my Asus Eed Pad Transformer Prime TF201 pad, but I am unable to make it work in the TF700 pad.
I have tried formatting it to FAT32, exFAT and NTFS with variying cluster sizes, and when I insert it into the TF700 pad, the "Preparing external storage" message flashes on the screen for a very brief instant, and then nothing - no card is available.
That surprised me quite a bit, as I expected the hardware support to be the same in the TF700 as in the TF201, but it seems like there is a different USB hardware part in the TF700 than in the TF201.
My 128 Gb SD Card ( amazon.com/Sandisk-Extreme-Memory-45MBps-Speeds/dp/B006ZH1WVS/ref=sr_1_1 ) in the docking station (formatted to FAT32) works with both pads connected (which was expected, as the hardware is the same in this instance).
Does anyone have success with a 64 Gb MicroSD card in the TF700 pad? If so, which one is it, and how is the card formatted?

TF300 + dock or TF700

I'm still within my 30 days for my tf300, and I have to return it because of a piece of dust stuck under the display glass. I also bought the tf300 dock and find it quite useful. Im thinking of going for the tf700. But If I get the TF700, I dont think i'll be able to afford the dock. Has anyone hear tried both tabs and know if the difference is worth sacrificing the dock?
The pixelated look of the tf300 screen does kinda bother me a little.

the docks are interchangeable but like you said you gotta give up some stuff. Also the prime dock doesnt fit as neately

Well since I bought the dock with the tab, I could easily use the refund money for the tf300 dock to buy the infinity dock, but I would need that refund money too buy the infinity. The price of the full infinity and dock package is too much for this starving college student.

i dont understand why youre switching...the only real advantage youre getting is HD screen. the rest of the specs are negligeable

"Only"? In my opinion the display is one of the most important things in a tablet. Or a phone for a that matter.

First things first: you are right in that the TF300 dock IS NOT compatible with the TF700 tablet! Do not heed the other poster telling you so, you will be in trouble. It was clear you knew that, but I thought I'd chime in on behalf of the less informed visiting this thread with the same question you had.
More on-topic: the keyboards are essentially the same as far as ergonomics go, so in that respect, so it'd be a matter of asking yourself if you'd miss the keyboard of the TF300 if I broke in in two on my knee at this very moment. If not, you won't miss it on the TF700. (I would, as I like the hard keyboard very much.)
As far as the screen is concerned: it's wonderful. Can;t really say anything more than that; you will absolutely notice a difference.
I cannot imagine where the reviewers who said there is not a noticeable difference between 1280x7.. and 1900x1200 gathered that from -- have they actually compared even the desktops? Sheesh.

I am definately one for high resolutions. I am trying my tf300 out without the dock, and I can get used to it. It is harder though and I can't type as much as if I had a hard keyboard.
Since a tablet is basically a touchscreen connected to an SoC package, the higher resolution does justify paying more for the pad itself.
The other thing to take into consideration is the boatloader. I know it seems weird to make that a deciding factor, but you do pay a lot for it and its a pretty serious device, so you'd expect an unlockable bootloader to be standard. (that and since I'm a CompE student, tampering is definately on my last of things to do with the device). ASUS hasn't released one yet for this tab. (I'm sure they will though)

Well, I think I'd go for the TF700, then, if I'd were you. The resolution indeed is superb, and the unlocked bootloader undoubtedly will be available in a few weeks. And as I said, I love the keyboard, though I wouldn't fancy typing longer reports or essays on it -- but that time lies in my (to my feeling already somewhat distant) past. ; )

Well after trying my tf300 for a while without the keyboard dock, I snapped them back together, and the difference is night and day. I have to choose between one great feature or the other, but not both. At least with the TF700 I can always get the dock later. Upgrading the screen is not quite as easy.

more battery?....buttons?
I'll admit there is some play in the hinge system, but it stays where you put it....please advise

JK, tf700 is best for movies, tf300 is good for anything else.

Well I took the plunge, there's a tf700 in shipment somewhere with my name on it. In just one week, it will be all mine.

Is there a return policy for your dock? If so, you can probably just exchange it for the correct one.
I'd exchange it for insurance reasons.
I'm just thinking if something dock related went wrong with your (very expensive top of the line) tablet, and you were using the wrong dock, you warranty would be void, and you would be out of luck.
Plus the correct dock would look and fit better.

Well, if it fits.... it... .errrmm.... fits.
All kidding aside, I do think the battery in the TF201/700 dock is more powerful, but I'd have to look that one up to be sure. I believe the connectors are essentially the same, although the placement might be off a bit -- since that didn't stop you from docking the tablet, I wouldn't mind too much. The Prime's dock is compatible with recent firmware, even if slightly off-color, but I do not know what the specific reasoning was behind the TF300's not being compatible (except for the thickness of the tablet, and the resulting lack of "hinge fit").

More on-topic: the keyboards are essentially the same as far as ergonomics go, so in that respect, so it'd be a matter of asking yourself if you'd miss the keyboard of the TF300 if I broke in in two on my knee at this very moment. If not, you won't miss it on the TF700. (I would, as I like the hard keyboard very much.)
As far as the screen is concerned: it's wonderful. Can;t really say anything more than that; you will absolutely notice a difference.
I cannot imagine where the reviewers who said there is not a noticeable difference between 1280x7.. and 1900x1200 gathered that from -- have they actually compared even the desktops? Sheesh.

THANK YOU. My wife dropped her Prime so I'm going to hand her down my TF300 but I couldn't stand the though of loosing my keyboard as I've grown quite accustomed to it when traveling. I was on the fence and not having to drop another $150 on the dock is the deciding factor. TF700 here I come.
PS Anyone looking to buy a 201 with a cracked screen. Dig works....

I tried my tf700 in a tf300 dock. It works but the fit is terrible. The tf300 is thicker than the tf700. I would reccomend selling your tf300 dock on ebay, and buying a prime or infinity dock with the money.

I got a tf700t and i bought a tf300t dock as there were no other docks and it looked asit wworkks. The dock fits ok (slightly loose) , and the keyboard works ok and is detected by the tablet as (DOCK EC20N 0207). But when docked the dock does not seem to charge the tablet. The tablet battry depleets andthe taab turns off while the dock reminsat 97% charge.
Anybody else having this? Or is my doock broken?

Hi ALL,
This post is to address the confusion regarding the difference between the TF-201 only doc and the TF-700 Infinity dock that was released at the same time as the Infinity that I like many orderd the package on release day, (paying full MSRP for both, some paid more, where TF-201 doc is available easily $50-$60 cheaper, hence the importance of figuring out the distinction). The common theory is there is no real difference... that I shared once I received my TF-700 dock and saw no external differences other than a few stickers, and no differences what so ever in capability. There was a reported reduction in battery capacity in the TF-700 dock and change in battery position to distribute weight more effectively to prevent tip overs, but all indications (model number on box, in BIOS, etc.) indicate that this isn't true, that we all received repackaged TF-201 docks. Given the dramatic price difference (50% more in price), and the fact that I have been a loyal Asus customer for years, if Asus is going downhill and resorting to blatant misleading of their customers just to make a buck, IMO I can no longer trust anything that company says, and to me, beyond all else, trust is the most important when selecting your supplier of choice.
Their honesty regarding product issues, their innovation, and fantastic value (in most cases) for Asus products will be missed, but there are other great choices out there (and cheaper too), so do not despair. In the last month alone, even before the first reviews hit the inet (either professional or consumer) I have purchased an Asus Z77 Premium motherboard (their TOTL 1155 Z77 motherboard, and NOT CHEAP). I also got their GTX670 Direct CUII TOP video card (TOP version supposedly means it has the best binned video ships of all of the 670s for better over clocks and over all stability), but based on the cumulative results across then the inet on the comparisons between the standard Direct DUII and the TOP version I regularly see the normal version doing better (sometimes significantly) than the TOP versions, sometimes not, it basically looks like a TOP is no different than a standard model. These tests are controlled and documented tests, with one variable, which card is used in the test bed, everything else was done properly. In other words, I believe now that I payed an extra $30 for three letter printed on a box that mean nothing(MINE OVERCLOCKS HORRIBLY BTW), and overclocking is what paying the extra $30 for the TOP versions is FOR, they even given you an app overclock by pushing a button in their auto-oveclock app, so it is certainly a "supported and encouraged" practice. I bring this other example up because I am thinking that this dock thing is not an isolated incident. I am depressed to loose a friend/hardware partner where the only benefit is increasing the margin just a tiny bit. I have also just purchased the ASUS Zenbook Prime UX31A-DB51 13.3-Inch Ultrabook (SSD, ULV i-5, over a grand for that), and now I am wondering what I got into on that front. Now on to the proof...
All of the ones on the left in the SxS's are the TF-700s, (you can tell in the TF 700 because its stickers is missing the claim of 18hr battery life on the sticker on the palm rest). For the close ups, with only one dock, the pic is labeled with which doc it is.

So moral of the story is to get the Primes dock? I'm thinking about buying a dock. Whats the point in spending $60 extra for the same thing? I can use that towards school! And beverages!!!

The Country Product Manager ASUS Romania & Bulgaria has sent me an email on July:
"Both docking stations, for TF201 and TF700, are identical, with same battery 2940mAh(22Wh)"
So, is official, not a new discovery!
On the other side, Asus write on the official website of TF700, a different thing:
Battery: 19.5Wh + (The Eee Pad Transformer Prime mobile dock is NOT compatible with Transformer Pad Infinity)

Yep! Buy the TF201 dock at a discount while you can because they are identical. My TF700 dock is going back. I might send it all back and boycott Asus because of their shady business practices but I am undecided at this point because my second choice at this point is an iPad 3 but they do not support mouse functionality as far as I know and that's almost a deal killer for me.

Agreed, i got the 201 dock up the street at Best buy for $99 ($105 after tax). Probably will be able to find it cheaper online, but in my case I had an $80 BB gift card burning a hole in my wallet, and I rarely shop there, so it was a match made in heaven . My other one is going back as well.

Guys guys guys. These ARE NOT identical. The difference is rather noticable too. If you all would stop ranting and raving about being ripped off for just a moment you would see that one is a small "check" big "2" while the other is a big "check" small... well a zero or something, hard to tell. This is a clear performance edge over whichever is supposed to be the older one.

And going through those pictures, I can see no visual difference between the docks. Thanks, very nice page and history. I have to ask, can someone point me to a URL to teach me how to take pics like that specifically ? I have a Canon S95, T3i with an excellent Macro lense, SX230, and other nice cameras which certainly would have been clearer, but nothing like what the page you linked would look like (mainly how they make it look like they took the pics in white space. I was using my Galaxy IIs to take the pics of my work last night, time was of the essence given it was really late, I was also working at the same time, and had an early AM (that I missed cos I overslept :/).
Not asking for a full blown photography page to tell me how to check and adjust WB and all of that, just specifically how they take the pics so the hardware just seems to be floating in white... I don't see ANY edges at all to indicate PSing. Do they just have it on a stand perhaps with a perfectly white back ground or something? I will update my pics with much better ones soon, but I would LOVE to be able to post pics like that website .
