[Q] Who plans on not purchasing the dock?

Just wanted to know who plans on not purchasing the dock(since that was the main selling point.) How do you think you will do without a usb port?

For me personally if it wasnt for the dock (full keyboard, extra battery and full size usb ports) id have just gotten the Tab 10.1 in june instead. Although its too bad they're using tegra 2 and not their own chips for the tab but oh well.

I'm not planning on it as of right now. Once I have it in my hands and start messing with it, I can reassess the need for it from there.

personally i would like the dock however it all depends upon the price of it here in the UK !!

I do not plan on it...anything i need that would normally be synced through a USB can be put on the device with bluetooth or pulled off my wireless network. I honestly dont think I will mind not having one (besides needing to charge on that darned proprietary cable!)

Once there is any temp. price drop that makes keyboard dock for $90 or so I can get ..other wise....big NO

I don't think I'm getting the dock either. Firstly the price is too high, if it was less than $100 i would have considered it, i have 3 laptops already so I dont need it to do any work or typing. I actually may even get rid of the transformer depending on how the samsung is reviewed since its lighter and thinner. If i end up keeping it for the long term I may get the dock later but only if it comes down in price.

One of the main reasons that I'm getting the Transformer over any of the other Android tablets is the keyboard dock (which isn't sold in the US yet!).
So I definitely plan on getting on when they start being sold here.

Supposedly there is an adaptor accessory that will provide a USB port.

I most definitely WON'T buy the keyboard dock.
I simply don't need it - my house is already littered with computers (2 laptops, 2 desktops, 1 server).
I needed a lightweight, always-on, touch device, not another notebook

I don't plan on buying the dock anytime soon as mostly I will be using it to read books, browsing the internet and few other things which would not require dock. Moreover, the price of the dock is (errrmmm keyboard ) is just too much for me to come to terms with it. So, unless it drops down to like $79 bucks, it won't happen in next year or so.

One of my main uses for the Transformer is writing, and conducting the research for writing. I wanted a device that will last for a long, long time on a charge so that I can be ready to write in any situation. Also, I got tired of setting up my HP Envy notebook on the tray and hassling with the power cable every time I wanted to do some writing late at night in bed.
So, the dock is the entire point of buying the TF for me. A physical keyboard is necessary for long-form writing, of course. The extra battery means it'll last a full day of writing, so it'll always be available. And because there's also no heat and thus no fans, I don't have to mess with power cables and lap trays when I want to write at night. Just plop it right on top of the covers, no problem.
The dock will also serve as a cover (I imagine I'll pretty much carry it around with the dock most of the time, but I did buy a sleeve just in case) and a prop. Overall, I think the price is good enough for a 24.4Whr battery and portable charging station, with a hardwired keyboard (avoiding Bluetooth connectivity issues) and trackpad.
I know the thread was about people NOT buying it, but I thought I'd interject. Just 'cause I like talking about it, and need something to do until it arrives later today.

I will buy it, since I don't have a personal laptop (do have a work laptop, that's it) and only a high end desktop.
The long lasting battery and dual option (tablet and netbook) do it perfectly for me. Also, my 30" desktop monitor is IPS panel, so I won't go anything below that in picture quality.

Currently I have no interest. Not because I think it's a dumb idea, I just don't need it for a tablet, that's not how I'm using mine. I do appreciate the idea, though. If it cost less, I'd probably bite just to have the option handy, but $150 is too much for something I'd rarely use. I find that the on-screen keyboard is very good for the amount of typing I do on the Transformer (I do find myself hitting the keyboard minimize button by accident too much, I wish it wasn't underneath the shift key).

The dock should turn it into a Windows laptop, have the cpu etc in the dock.
I'd pay for that, but see no reason for a Honeycomb tablet dock unless it was $60 or so.

I'm not much interested in the keyboard dock. I've got a laptop with a 9 hr battery and bigger screen that weighs three pounds, I'd use that. I might be interested in the desktop dock thing that just charges it and holds it though, if the price was right and they ever became available.

If the dock without a keyboard has battery inside I might not buy the keyboard dock and go for the keyboardless dock.

i'm also torn between getting the dock or not. i do like the idea of extended battery and the ability to type with a physical keyboard. but then i already have my laptop for that. another thing is the price - $150 is kind of high. but then i already preordered it from amazon. lol. if anything it'll be a pure impulse buy or i end up forgetting that i preordered and then it ships. haha

Never intend of getting the keyboard in the first place, if I need a keyboard I will use my notebook.

I need real advice on this issue on the TF Dock

Ok, I love my TF. And I mean it is awesome. And just being to get a Dock/Keyboard is very cool too..
But I am having a hard time buying the keyboard/. Yes I know all the advantages. But this is what my wife says about it. If you wanted a laptop, then why did you get a tablet?
I have no way of arguing with her on this point. But I would use it if I bought one.
So can you guys give me some advice to help me decide?

If your wife doesn't understand why it's better you chance your wife ;-)
Try to show herramientas that with a keyboard you have the best of two worlds. A laptop for some situations a tablet for other.

I enjoy having the keyboard dock simply because it bridges the gap between a tablet and a netbook. In addition to all the features it offers typing is so much more convenient while still experiencing the touch screen of the tab itself (whenever I use mine or my wife's laptop I actually try to scroll on the screen...).
You can ask your wife to remove the screen from a netbook when you want to use it separately . I'd say go for it! According to ASUS it will also be compatible for future tablets.

Now having the keyboard dock, I wish i didn't. I wish i would have picked up a good bt keyboard that i could interchange with my cellphone/htpc/future cell./future tablet. my .02

It all comes down to what your main purpose/use for the dock is. I personally like that you can hook up external drives etc. without issues, take screenshots, have dedicated android shortcuts and so on. I had a BT keyboard for my XOOM but it wasn't that great (admittedly, it was a cheap generic Apple keyboard that I taught some android shortcuts). If it's just for the sake of typing on a keyboard then yes, maybe it's better to get a good wireless (BT) keyboard that works with other BT devices. If you want connectivity and expandability then the dock is the best (only?) solution.

For me, I enjoyed using the tablet only. I got the keyboard/dock so I could type faster, and keep the tablet charged. Sometimes I use the USB & SD slots, too.
What happens now: I leave the tablet in the dock most of the time. I only disconnect the tablet when I want to read or play something that works better without a keyboard/dock.
The dock transforms your use from primary tablet, to primary tablet/dock. HTH.

One of the ways I justified it is that with any other tablet you have to buy a BT keyboard anyways, and in addition the dock when folded PROTECTS the tab's glass, basically eliminating the need for a case or sleeve

I make good use of the extra USB, SD, and battery so its really justified for me.
And +1 to fldude99 about protecting the glass. If you think it will benefit you for what you do with the tab then get it. I for one, love it.

I decided to go ahead and get one. Found a brand new one for $123.00. I can always use it on the next transformer I get that happens to have a number 2 next to it.

good for you, oh, and a word of advice, you might like to know what one would do about the weird trackpad and scrolling problems, and that is this: get a usb mouse... It works great with the dock and makes for the full "netbook" experience. (I would go for a wired one though because I occassionally have problems with my wireless one)

Considering I got my TF + Dock for $230 shipped brand new, Im thrilled with this thing. The dock is amazing because it gives you the flexibility to work or play. It's very portable with or without the dock, but I usually take just the TF with me when I go places and I dock it the second I get home. Not to mention the extra battery life is a blessing. I say go for it man, you won't regret it.

(1) Laptop battery doesn't last 16 hours.
(2) Laptop can't transform into a tablet when you just want a tablet.
(3) Laptop doesn't have multi-touch capacitive screen.
(4) Laptop feels like an anchor.

I've found that people, ipad users in particular, have a hard time understanding choice. To them the issue is whether you want a tablet or a laptop. What if you want both but don't want to carry a laptop and a tablet around?
Earlier today someone on the train asked me just this question. She was crazy about her ipad 2. So, we talked about our tablets because she was curious about what I have. The question inevitably came up. Why didn't I just get a laptop? I gave her my short answer, which was "I like having the choice to either have a laptop or a tablet". She just gave me a blank look.
This goes back to what I've been saying for months. Apple has done a very good job at convincing people that you cannot be productive with your ipad. You need a laptop for that, preferably the macbook air. So, this woman, like so many others I've talked to, was puzzled why I wanted to do work with my tablet. She couldn't imagine typing for too long on her ipad because the softkeys are just horrible to type on if you're doing substantial typing. Even after I plugged my Tf into the dock, she still had trouble understanding how I could work with a tablet. I had to show her some documents I had put together on nothing but the TF and my powerpoint presentation.
By the time she got up to get off the train at her stop, I still got the feeling that she was still not convinced you could be useful with the tablet platform.
Last month, ,I read an article that claimed the author believed strongy the future will belong to the tablet-notebook hybrids. I guess only time will tell. I agree with that article, though.

i damaged my tablet by packing it with an extension cord for a flight - the prongs dug deep into the screen and damaged it somewhat - d'oh
so i picked up the keyboard primarily so that it could protect the screen
what i got was a keyboard that seems even better made than the tablet
i like the keyboard too for note-taking or long emails, while keeping the tactile yumminess of a touchscreen

[Q] Keyboard help

I currently have an Acer A500 tab, and I mainly chose this for its usb slot(best thing ever created on a tab).
However, I am looking at getting the Asus Prime because I need the Tegra 3...NOW! lol.
I hope you guys can answer my questions.
How do you like your keyboard? I want the keyboard for the usb and super battery life, but It feels like the keyboard would be trouble when you dont want it, or you want to use your tab in portrait mode. Is it an inconvenience carrying around a keyboard for "just in case I need it" situations?
Also can you turn the tab around on the keyboard and fold it so the keys are touching the back of the tab? (I dont think so but thats why I am asking).
I love my Acer and I like the Asus. Amazing tabs with there own pros and cons. But I am very interested in the prime and and help would be appreciated.

I love this tablet. Have had this thing for four days now and I'm very happy with it. And i love the keyboard! I actually thought about not buying the keyboard but I am so happy I did. The extra battery is so great. Can go a long time without needing to charge. You can't turn the tablet around and shut it backwards against the keys. And I have no trouble keeping the tablet handy when im not using it. I definately suggest getting this, especially now that the Prime has the Tegra 3!

Do whatever you can to see the 1015PE and similar Eee PC netbooks by ASUS. Something that made it easier to buy in to the TF101, the keyboard is virtually the same as my netbook, which was just a smidge smaller than my laptop with fn/ctrl swapped. It's as good as you are going to get without a standard keyboard.
I carry mine in a backpack, otherwise my tablet is rarely longer than arms length away and the dock a room away at best. Thus when I'm out, the worst I can get is dealing with my pack
Nevver tried docking it that way but it is inconvienent to desire (or require) portrait mode with the dock. If you have a lame app like PayPal that goes Portrait Only, you pretty much can **** your head to the side or undock.

I constantly hear "keyboard dock this, and keyboard dock that. I bought this because it's a kick a** tablet. I don't want a net book. Hell, i could've gotten one of those cheaper.

I have my tablet without the dock and a nice case that has various angles to view the tablet at. I also have a Bluetooth Microsoft keyboard that I use with my tablet when I am too lazy to sit at the computer to type something out or stuff like that. But without the dock and loving it!

The only thing that tempted me to the keyboard was the extra battery, I went for the Anker Astro 3 instead. The keyboard would be nice but at more than £100 and at the risk of getting a screen breaker its not worth it.

My TF201 (which was a "good" one except for the GPS) was a great stand alone tablet without the dock. I used it like that most of the time I had it. I only picked up the dock when it went on sale at Best Buy as they were closing them out.
But, now that I have a dock, I love it. I still frequently use the 700 as a tablet undocked for reading or travel all the time, that convertibility is one of the most awesome things about the TF series and they are GREAT tablets all by themselves.

I have the keyboard dock but I usually use my tablet standalone. It's awesome either way.

I think that if you guys had the dock for a day, you'd never go back! Not only does it make typing *so* much easier, it's also like a built in stand for the tablet! Not to mention the extra ports, extra battery life and the fact that you can see the *whole* screen while typing (instead of the keyboard taking up half the screen).
You can always remove the tablet *very* easily to go back to being a tablet, but you'll find that most of the time, you simply leave it docked so you don't even have to hold the tablet while using it!
Again, you may not think you'd use it, until you actually have it for a day or two...

Had the doc and never used it. Sold my Prime + Doc and purchased an Infinity without the doc and that will be my setup going forward.

I love to use mine in portrait, which with the high res screen is very comfortable and provides tons of viewing real estate.
I might pick up the dock when it goes on sale for easier video chatting, movie viewing and typing, but 95% of my use is browsing and it's very comfortable holding it in portrait doing that.

I have USB adapter, extra micro cards, and USB micro reader. I've hooked up a 320 GB HDD, used flash drives, all kinds of stuff. And for typing, i use Swype and a stylus.

I know these things *can* be done without the dock, but nowhere near the ease that they can be done with the dock... Trust me, I've tried! The dock just makes everything that much easier... It's completely changes how useful the tablet really is. There is *no way* that you can enter text as quickly and easily with a stylus as you can with a keyboard - period.
I guess it all boils down to what you use your tablet for. I take a *lot* of notes at work and it would be a disaster without the dock (I simply wouln't use it at work without the dock - it just wouldn't make much sense). If you just use it casually to play games and surf the web, I can see the dock not being needed, but if you do any kind of emailing or note-taking (or even posting on XDA), the dock just makes it that much faster and easier. To be honest, I personally leave it docked even while playing a lot of games!

How well does that work? TF's require 15 volts.

Just read "is not compatible with Asus tablets." How does it work in real life?

I use my tablet all the time without the dock and absolutely love it. The only time I use the dock really is when I'm taking notes, since I could never really get the hang of fast screen typing, watching movies, or recharging the battery. One of the nicest things is having the keyboard charging up while I use the tablet, then dock up and recharge the tablet while still using it.

I want a tablet not a netbook. Except when i want a netbook and not a tablet! I can use mine either way and am happy.

i think that you can save your money and, maybe, buy some wireless and much cheaper keyboard... you don't need the keyboard dock to play games... so it is better to buy mouse and wireless keyboard saving some money

If we consider both it is a matter of opinion and use.
dock = $123 amazon, includes usb port, sdd card access, charging, and a decent keyboard.
no dock = usb port $25, usb to sdd card $10, android bluetooth mouse and keyboard $90 - can't charge while using usb, with most cases tf300 has to be inverted to place usb at the top for use, charging, and orientation can be an issue when it switches to portrait mode plus power button hard to access when placed at the bottom.
Personal preference!

I FREAKIN LOVE IT... the key board is smooth to use, has a very reflexive touch pad and it normally takes me about 2 days to kill all of my battery with the power on max performance... GAMESTOP will even demo it for you...to let you get a feel for it... i like it WAY better than my laptop.... its like having a notebook...so...like he ^ said...user prefence... you decide...i think its well worth the buy...

how about chating ? facebook ? good use ? smooth ?

Buy the dock. Very well done.
also, I just smashed my screen this week.
for 4 months it lived in the dock in my backpack, and I would just pop it out of the dock if I didn't want the keyboard...
I got a big ole silicone case for just the tablet last week. took 1 week out of the dock for the screen to get smashed...
buy the dock because when you dock it, the battery in the dock, initiates a charge on the tablet battery until the dock is drained completely... then you can undock it with a full charge, or a lot of charge at least... and take the tablet further if need be.
the battery in the dock gives you STUPID awesome battery life.
it's only $150 full retail price for the dock with battery inside it.
I'm looking at $200 to replace my digitizer/screen.
dude. Get the dock. you're droppin all that dough for the Transformer tf300... get the $150 dock too!

facebook is awesome to use on it especially with new update for the jb. when asus designed it they definitly put the best of the small size to match the tablet and the versatility of a fully functioning keyboard... you can even use macros like you would on your pc like ctrl-c and such with some setting adjustments. i like how fast i can type without switching between sym and abc especially if you message or type alot like me. and i personally cant stand having to touch keys on top of my text where i CANT SEE what im typing...or crane my neck to see my screen when i lay down to use it...and unlike my bulky 22" laptop, it actually FITS MY LAP!!!... so yeah... I deefinitely would recommend this for ANY & EVERYONE USING AN ASUS TRANSFORMER... besides...who of all your other friends have tablets and how many can go BAAAMMM!!! MY TABLET IS NOW A LAPTOP!!!???... BUT like i said go to bestbuy or gamestop an take a test drive my friend...well worth it...hope i helped...message me if you have any other questions...
P.S. the dock also has a usb port which i love using with my 500GB external HDD and external bluray/dvd/cd burner, and a regular sd card slot so if you have a camera with old school sd cards you can just upload pics to FB etc all from your ASUS or but the micro to sd adapter for like 5 bucks and edit stuff from your phone...the possibilities are endless with this thing...AND quick buttons for all your settings and programs right infront of you at your finger tips.
P.P.S- IF ANYONE FROM ASUS IS WATCHING THESE POSTS, I WOULD SUGGEST HAVING A CHAT WITH BEATS AUDIO AND INSTALL TWO LITTLE SPEAKERS AT THE FRONT BOTTOM OF THE DOCK (LIKE HP AND DELL HAVE THEIR LAPTOPS SET UP) FOR WATCHING MOVIES/NETFLIX, LISTENING TO MUSIC AND PLAYING GAMES, ETC. GIVE THE BIG COMPANIES A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY!

i got the tf300t dock and have used it happly the BATTERY LIFE IS HUGH WITH THE DOCK get one youl love it

If your still thinking about it, just get it. 88.00 USD on amazon. its amazing since it adds more batter life, sd storage and usb connection. Wouldnt recommend docking it and carrying it like a laptop though, iv'e heard people cracking their screens from it.

The only reason I buy this tablet is because of it's dock. If this tablet didn't have a keyboard dock like this, I wouldn't even consider this tablet.
I use this keyboard mainly for school notes and it's portability. So I think this keyboard is really great for me.
The keyboard is a little small so it takes some time to get use to. The mouse touch pad is surprisingly well built.
Depends on what you do with the tablet. If you travel and type a lot with this tablet, I think it's worth it. But if it stays home most of the time, then I think it's better to just buy a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for a much cheaper price.

It is very much worth it to buy the dock. It was so nice to have an android netbook where ever I was, but then I did something and the dock shorted out somewhere, sent it into asus a week ago and havent heard anything from them yet.
