[Q] Who plans on not purchasing the dock? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wanted to know who plans on not purchasing the dock(since that was the main selling point.) How do you think you will do without a usb port?

For me personally if it wasnt for the dock (full keyboard, extra battery and full size usb ports) id have just gotten the Tab 10.1 in june instead. Although its too bad they're using tegra 2 and not their own chips for the tab but oh well.

I'm not planning on it as of right now. Once I have it in my hands and start messing with it, I can reassess the need for it from there.

personally i would like the dock however it all depends upon the price of it here in the UK !!

I do not plan on it...anything i need that would normally be synced through a USB can be put on the device with bluetooth or pulled off my wireless network. I honestly dont think I will mind not having one (besides needing to charge on that darned proprietary cable!)

Once there is any temp. price drop that makes keyboard dock for $90 or so I can get ..other wise....big NO

I don't think I'm getting the dock either. Firstly the price is too high, if it was less than $100 i would have considered it, i have 3 laptops already so I dont need it to do any work or typing. I actually may even get rid of the transformer depending on how the samsung is reviewed since its lighter and thinner. If i end up keeping it for the long term I may get the dock later but only if it comes down in price.

One of the main reasons that I'm getting the Transformer over any of the other Android tablets is the keyboard dock (which isn't sold in the US yet!).
So I definitely plan on getting on when they start being sold here.

Supposedly there is an adaptor accessory that will provide a USB port.
Regards,
Dave

I most definitely WON'T buy the keyboard dock.
I simply don't need it - my house is already littered with computers (2 laptops, 2 desktops, 1 server).
I needed a lightweight, always-on, touch device, not another notebook

I don't plan on buying the dock anytime soon as mostly I will be using it to read books, browsing the internet and few other things which would not require dock. Moreover, the price of the dock is (errrmmm keyboard ) is just too much for me to come to terms with it. So, unless it drops down to like $79 bucks, it won't happen in next year or so.

One of my main uses for the Transformer is writing, and conducting the research for writing. I wanted a device that will last for a long, long time on a charge so that I can be ready to write in any situation. Also, I got tired of setting up my HP Envy notebook on the tray and hassling with the power cable every time I wanted to do some writing late at night in bed.
So, the dock is the entire point of buying the TF for me. A physical keyboard is necessary for long-form writing, of course. The extra battery means it'll last a full day of writing, so it'll always be available. And because there's also no heat and thus no fans, I don't have to mess with power cables and lap trays when I want to write at night. Just plop it right on top of the covers, no problem.
The dock will also serve as a cover (I imagine I'll pretty much carry it around with the dock most of the time, but I did buy a sleeve just in case) and a prop. Overall, I think the price is good enough for a 24.4Whr battery and portable charging station, with a hardwired keyboard (avoiding Bluetooth connectivity issues) and trackpad.
I know the thread was about people NOT buying it, but I thought I'd interject. Just 'cause I like talking about it, and need something to do until it arrives later today.

I will buy it, since I don't have a personal laptop (do have a work laptop, that's it) and only a high end desktop.
The long lasting battery and dual option (tablet and netbook) do it perfectly for me. Also, my 30" desktop monitor is IPS panel, so I won't go anything below that in picture quality.

Currently I have no interest. Not because I think it's a dumb idea, I just don't need it for a tablet, that's not how I'm using mine. I do appreciate the idea, though. If it cost less, I'd probably bite just to have the option handy, but $150 is too much for something I'd rarely use. I find that the on-screen keyboard is very good for the amount of typing I do on the Transformer (I do find myself hitting the keyboard minimize button by accident too much, I wish it wasn't underneath the shift key).

The dock should turn it into a Windows laptop, have the cpu etc in the dock.
I'd pay for that, but see no reason for a Honeycomb tablet dock unless it was $60 or so.

I'm not much interested in the keyboard dock. I've got a laptop with a 9 hr battery and bigger screen that weighs three pounds, I'd use that. I might be interested in the desktop dock thing that just charges it and holds it though, if the price was right and they ever became available.

If the dock without a keyboard has battery inside I might not buy the keyboard dock and go for the keyboardless dock.

i'm also torn between getting the dock or not. i do like the idea of extended battery and the ability to type with a physical keyboard. but then i already have my laptop for that. another thing is the price - $150 is kind of high. but then i already preordered it from amazon. lol. if anything it'll be a pure impulse buy or i end up forgetting that i preordered and then it ships. haha

Never intend of getting the keyboard in the first place, if I need a keyboard I will use my notebook.

is the dock worth the price?

Hi guys, is the dock really worth the price point? Do you think its a must have accessory for the transformer? How have the dock improved your whole experience with the transformer? I have about $100 amazon gift credits left after selling my text books.

Personally for me, yes, with the two USB slots, the extended battery life, the SD card slot, the keyboard and mousepad, and a way of protecting the screen of the tablet
I also debated about getting the dock. I believed I could really use it for school, so I bought it, but there were a few complictions non-device related. I then debated about returning it, but every aspect about it is amazing to me.
At night I throw my transformer on the dock and let them both charge fully, I wake up in the morning and throw my transformer and dock into my backpack, just in case I have a class where the notes are just extremely long. During free periods I pull it out and just mess around(I am a high school student). I dont get home until late every day so my tablet easily last all day.
From here I will just list the benefits, lol.
My transformer has been used down to 50% I reach in my bag and throw it on th dock, leave and come back my tablet is juiced and ready to go.
I want to browse the web fo a while, so I throw on the dock and get typing...i hate using the on-screen keyboard sometimes.
I open up XDA and browse a couple tablet forums and read their woes and trolls, and sometimes respond...with the keyboard.
I have a file on a flash drive or on my Phone and I want it on my transformer quickly to view and edit...(usb ports help out here)
The quick hotkeys at the top of the keyboard on the dock are amazing, I am always using one of those for something every minute.
Touchpad does not get used much due to having a display that can be touched
The coolnes factor, people ask me like, "ohhh you got another computer?!" im like nooooo this is my tablet, and pow undock it and blow their minds.
It will be compatile with Asus tablets to come...this does not seem like a big deal, but when you already have n accesory for something that isnt even out yet it feels like your saving mucho money.
Yeah, these are just a few, but I hope it helps you consider getting it because it is worth it in so many ways!
This was also typd from my dock XD

+1. Agree 100% with both these posts. I personally tested 3 other tablets and the dock with all the niceties it adds was the selling point on th TF for me. 4 others at my work have bought TF and all have the dock.
Get the dock! I didn't want to spend more money to get it as I thought I wouldn't use it much. But once I got it I use it all the time, the extra battery, using the dock to hold as a stand and plugging a usb mouse were the main reasons I got it.
At first (I ordered the TF the DAY it was released) I wasnt going to get the dock, I figured it's a tablet if I need a kb I'll use my netbook or laptop.. So then I got the dock on sale (when they were selling like hotcakes) and snatched it up for the deal.. plus I figured even if I didn't use it I had a spare battery, plus a nice little way to prop up the tablet in bed.... fast forward to today.. I use the dock just as much as the tablet by itself. Because of the dock, I now use my tablet in ways I would never if I had not had the dock. I now keep all my class notes on it (using ever note) which makes reading them on the go easy(without the dock) and makes taking notes during class much easier. I really do now find the dock VERY useful.. It pretty much has replaced my netbook (dell duo netbook/tablet)
So I would say yes, in the long run the dock is most certainly worth the price (in my situation it was)
oh wow! Thank you so much for the informative responds. I will definitely get it! I still have few questions. Does it lag when you type on websites like it does on the screen keyboard? I use a chromebook for school. Hows the weight compared tot the chromebook? And can you easily peel off that sticker on the keyboard? Because sometimes its hard to take that off in some laptops and it will leave a mark.

[Q] if tf2 comes out soon, would you buy it?

Tf2 is rumored to release soon,
Will you upgrade?
If not what kind of price spec / dimension, thickness of the new tf would make you do it?
To me if they keep the same price, better camera, better speaker, as thin as galaxy tab 10.1 then SOLD
!!
i probably wouldn't, the next tablet i want to get would be a win8 tablet, not sure if i want an arm or x86 processor yet...
so, a TF2 that runs win8 would be something i would consider.
BUT, if i could sell my TF and get a TF2 for like ~$100 i would probably bite, ICS would have to be something FAR more cohesive and polished though.
only if they make a TF2 that supports the current docking.
I paid $170 for the docking, tax+shipping.
No way I would buy another Transformer if they make a new docking for every upgrade.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they already announced it would be compatible with the existing dock...which suggests it will have the same thickness as the current model in order to fit in the slot...or it will have a "bulge" in the back if it needs to be thicker to accommodate the new tech.
I've recently aquired a TF101-B1/32GB model as an upgrade/replacement to my 1015PE EeePC. Software wise the only stuff I could aim for improvements, can be done with OTA updates or ROMs. Hardware wise, unless the battery life goes up to like 4x, what improvements we can expect in terms of CPU/RAM/Storage are just not worth it to me.
So I'm sticking with my Andrea
My TF1 now is enough for me .
i would upgrade. Win 8 is going to support Kal El chipset. ICS + Win8 + awesome hardware? Yes please. The trusty TF will go to my wife and get her off my equipment
I will probably not upgrade. I love my TF, and the only thing I would want would be a dual boot with win8, so IF it supports the current dock, AND it gets a dual win8 boot then I would consider it. Otherwise I will probably wait for the next chipset and skip the kal-el.

I am thinking they might come out with an adaptor,
but rumors are the TF2 is thinner/lighter than Ipad2.
Only if it had at least several of the following changes:
* Significantly faster while retaining similar battery life -or- similar speed with a significant improvement in battery life
* Equal or better screen with less glossy finish
* A better microphone and (less important to me) speakers
* FM radio receiver (it's already in the current chipset, just not enabled and I'm guessing not the correct antenna type to support it)
* Faster GPS lock, since Android seems to have to start over from scratch on the GPS lock every time you leave the GPS-aware app and reenter
* Better wi-fi range / less dropouts
* Support for dual-boot to some other more fully-featured OS (Windows, Linux, whatever)
Thinner is utterly unimportant to me. I wouldn't want to have to buy my dock all over again (well, I have two tablets and two docks, so twice all over again). I don't see them making an adapter as it'd be too kludgy, so the only way it'll be thinner is if it has an unsightly bulge for the dock, or requires an entirely new dock. Size and weight are already near-perfect for me.
I will in the interim, but looking forward to W8.
I believe the dock can be modified easily for a thinner tab. If you've ever looked at your dock, you'll notice the hinge is attached with screws, making switching to another hinge adapter very easy.

There is absolutely zero chance they're going to put out an adapter that requires customers to dissassemble the existing hinge section, even just by removing four screws. If there's an adapter of any kind, it will sit inside the existing hinge assembly.
That said, I would happily place a bet that there will be no such adapter at all. If Asus had intended to accomodate slimmer tablets with the same dock, they've have provisioned an adapter with some kind of easily-removable docking plate in the first place.
My guess is either the followup will be the same thickness, or it'll be incompatible with the existing accessories. (And given that other than the dock, basically none of the promised accessories are available even this long after launch, I'm tending towards the latter.)
Asus has so far failed to build up the ecosystem that Transformer owners were led to believe was on the way, and that suggests to me that they've pushed delivery of that ecosystem back to their second-gen product, if at all. The only reason to do that is if it's no longer compatible with the first generation.
Also, note that while you can remove the inner trim piece by removing four screws (and perhaps the two star-shaped screws in the outside of the hinge, although I'm guessing those mate into the combined latch mechanism / tablet jack assembly), this doesn't remove the hinge itself. Its outer dimensions are still dictated by the thickness of the current tablet. Hence, even if they offered an adapter of some kind, it would leave a large, unsightly bulge on the back of a thinner tablet when docked. (All of the slack has to be taken up behind the tablet, because the tablet itself has to be flush with the dock when closed, meaning that any reduction in thickness of the tablet will leave the hinge mechanism standing proud of the tablet's back surface by the same amount, beyond what it already does with the existing tablet.)
Sorry. With the newer Transformers locked down I have to believe the next gen will be as well. As much as I like my TF, I will be switching to a more open manufacturer. I'm not paying $500+ to be locked out of my own device.
Add another vote for Windows 8 instead. My TF1 will continue to do work as a dev test platform for Android.
Everything I do works just fine on my current TF. Unless there are things that the TF2 does that my current one cant, and it were things I would do, then yeah I would buy the TF2.
But if not, then I will keep my TF until it stops doing what I want it to do..
I'd buy it only with an unlocked bootloader. A stock machine is 50% useless.

Lol! Such a long winded post. I merely stated how easy it is to take off the back part of the hinge and you're making it sound as impossible as time travel. 2 screws, and replace. Done.
Now, whether they choose this easy route, make the tab the same thickness (at least at the bottom) or go with a **** move by renigging on what they said about being compatible, is anyone's guess and pure speculation right now.
The fact is, I don't really care. I don't mind jumping ship if they don't make it compatible. I'm looking forward to the next greatest thing with W8.
Definitely planning to acquire TF2 with Android as a first tablet. No Microsoft [email protected] aka Windows8 for me plus it's immature and won't be ready until later in 2012.
Ill buy it porbably after 5 to6 months after release as i did it with the tf 1.

I need real advice on this issue on the TF Dock

Ok, I love my TF. And I mean it is awesome. And just being to get a Dock/Keyboard is very cool too..
But I am having a hard time buying the keyboard/. Yes I know all the advantages. But this is what my wife says about it. If you wanted a laptop, then why did you get a tablet?
I have no way of arguing with her on this point. But I would use it if I bought one.
So can you guys give me some advice to help me decide?
If your wife doesn't understand why it's better you chance your wife ;-)
Try to show herramientas that with a keyboard you have the best of two worlds. A laptop for some situations a tablet for other.
Enviado desde mi Transformer TF101 usando Tapatalk
I enjoy having the keyboard dock simply because it bridges the gap between a tablet and a netbook. In addition to all the features it offers typing is so much more convenient while still experiencing the touch screen of the tab itself (whenever I use mine or my wife's laptop I actually try to scroll on the screen...).
You can ask your wife to remove the screen from a netbook when you want to use it separately . I'd say go for it! According to ASUS it will also be compatible for future tablets.
Now having the keyboard dock, I wish i didn't. I wish i would have picked up a good bt keyboard that i could interchange with my cellphone/htpc/future cell./future tablet. my .02
It all comes down to what your main purpose/use for the dock is. I personally like that you can hook up external drives etc. without issues, take screenshots, have dedicated android shortcuts and so on. I had a BT keyboard for my XOOM but it wasn't that great (admittedly, it was a cheap generic Apple keyboard that I taught some android shortcuts). If it's just for the sake of typing on a keyboard then yes, maybe it's better to get a good wireless (BT) keyboard that works with other BT devices. If you want connectivity and expandability then the dock is the best (only?) solution.

For me, I enjoyed using the tablet only. I got the keyboard/dock so I could type faster, and keep the tablet charged. Sometimes I use the USB & SD slots, too.
What happens now: I leave the tablet in the dock most of the time. I only disconnect the tablet when I want to read or play something that works better without a keyboard/dock.
The dock transforms your use from primary tablet, to primary tablet/dock. HTH.
One of the ways I justified it is that with any other tablet you have to buy a BT keyboard anyways, and in addition the dock when folded PROTECTS the tab's glass, basically eliminating the need for a case or sleeve
+1 To " get a new wife"
I make good use of the extra USB, SD, and battery so its really justified for me.
And +1 to fldude99 about protecting the glass. If you think it will benefit you for what you do with the tab then get it. I for one, love it.
I decided to go ahead and get one. Found a brand new one for $123.00. I can always use it on the next transformer I get that happens to have a number 2 next to it.
good for you, oh, and a word of advice, you might like to know what one would do about the weird trackpad and scrolling problems, and that is this: get a usb mouse... It works great with the dock and makes for the full "netbook" experience. (I would go for a wired one though because I occassionally have problems with my wireless one)
hope I could make your experience a little easier
cost with dock and tf is about 5 or 600 cost for new laptop, over 700 dollars. point made

Considering I got my TF + Dock for $230 shipped brand new, Im thrilled with this thing. The dock is amazing because it gives you the flexibility to work or play. It's very portable with or without the dock, but I usually take just the TF with me when I go places and I dock it the second I get home. Not to mention the extra battery life is a blessing. I say go for it man, you won't regret it.

It makes typing a hundred times easier and the extra battery are the main reasons I love the dock.

(1) Laptop battery doesn't last 16 hours.
(2) Laptop can't transform into a tablet when you just want a tablet.
(3) Laptop doesn't have multi-touch capacitive screen.
(4) Laptop feels like an anchor.
Just a few off the top of my head.
I've found that people, ipad users in particular, have a hard time understanding choice. To them the issue is whether you want a tablet or a laptop. What if you want both but don't want to carry a laptop and a tablet around?
Earlier today someone on the train asked me just this question. She was crazy about her ipad 2. So, we talked about our tablets because she was curious about what I have. The question inevitably came up. Why didn't I just get a laptop? I gave her my short answer, which was "I like having the choice to either have a laptop or a tablet". She just gave me a blank look.
This goes back to what I've been saying for months. Apple has done a very good job at convincing people that you cannot be productive with your ipad. You need a laptop for that, preferably the macbook air. So, this woman, like so many others I've talked to, was puzzled why I wanted to do work with my tablet. She couldn't imagine typing for too long on her ipad because the softkeys are just horrible to type on if you're doing substantial typing. Even after I plugged my Tf into the dock, she still had trouble understanding how I could work with a tablet. I had to show her some documents I had put together on nothing but the TF and my powerpoint presentation.
By the time she got up to get off the train at her stop, I still got the feeling that she was still not convinced you could be useful with the tablet platform.
Last month, ,I read an article that claimed the author believed strongy the future will belong to the tablet-notebook hybrids. I guess only time will tell. I agree with that article, though.
i damaged my tablet by packing it with an extension cord for a flight - the prongs dug deep into the screen and damaged it somewhat - d'oh
so i picked up the keyboard primarily so that it could protect the screen
what i got was a keyboard that seems even better made than the tablet
i like the keyboard too for note-taking or long emails, while keeping the tactile yumminess of a touchscreen

[Q] Is the Transformer still worth it?

Just looking into getting a tablet and I saw Best Buy would be having these on black friday and was wondering if you guy still think the TF is worth it still. I don't have a ton to spend. But with all the new tablets coming out and Tegra 3 tablets coming out soon too, is this still worth it? I like the idea of adding the keyboard dock too and just us it to replace my laptop with something hopefully a bit quicker and all. Still seems to be a nice tablet. I have just started diving through the forums to try and find more info out about them, but I would appreciate any input from you guys. Also, do you guys think that an android tablet like the TF is a feasible replacement for a laptop in most respects or not yet? Thanks much!
Edit: Poll added.
depends on what you need out of the tablet. if you want something that is seconds faster is more capable in handeling true multitasking and plan on playing a ton of heavy games or do hardcore editing (when the right apps come out) then sure wait to get a quadcore tablet. otherwise the transformer is an excellent tablet esp with ICS coming around the corner. Also, look at some youtube videos of the transformer and read up on the new possible features of a quadcore tablet and then make a rational decision with what you actually need.
And also keep in mind that if you are waiting for the "Next Big Thing"...that's what you'll do....wait. IMHO the TF 101 does everything I need wonderfully. And at a pretty darn good price point. But you should read as much as you can from as many sources as you can. Then decide.
Something to consider also. I've not read anything if the TF 201 will be root-able.
Always get the product that fits your needs, not the "best" one. Cause the next best thing is always a few months away. The Tf101 (now) and the Prime are both going to be running ICS in a few months so its a matter of gaming, speeds and missing out on very few things that the transformer cannot do now.
Well thats my personal opinion. I highly doubt that quadcore means much without running a new OS but I could be wrong. Seems like dual core is plenty for Android. We haven't gotten to the point where tablets can replace notebooks entirely so it's kind of the middle gray area that's not essential if you ask me.
if you want to pay a premium...then get the next big thing
if you are on a budget...get the last big thing
obviously, once the TF2 comes out, the TF would be out-of-date. but at the price best buy is offering it, it'd say it's definitely worth it. i paid full price for mine+shipping+tax, and i still think it's worth it.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Poll is 14 to 0 it is still worth it. I paid $559 for mine with dock. I regret getting the dock i never use it but sounded like a great idea. I also use my laptop 99% less and my PSP not at all even my dad decided he wanted one and he still uses a bar phone and PIII laptop from 2001 that barely runs XP.
I have the TF and dock and love it, so much that when newegg had the TF+ dock for 399 I bought a second one for my wife. I have almost completely used it to replace my laptop. I watch movies, access online college classes and my business' quickbooks portfolio...just to name a few of its primary uses for me. It its more than enough power for what majority would use a tablet/netbook for.
That being said, I will most likely get prime as soon as they are readily available. However,i have zero regret buying a TF when I did and if I didnt have one now and needed one I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. It won't be obsolete for a long time, this little powerhouse still has some life left in her.

So, it seems like most people still love this tablet which makes me less skeptical about getting the "last big thing." Another question, any opinions about the laptop dock? Is it worth it for most applications?
I use the TF to do lots of typing, between classes and paper work for my business it its a necessity. Our also makes watching movies and stuff nice cause you dont have to hold it. Those are the convenience uses.
But don't forget that the dock also provides you with 2 usb 2.0 slots, great for the 1tb portable hard drive, plus an additional full size sd slot. If that wasn't enough, asus felt they also need to add a set of batteries that increase life by about 6 hours. The nice thing about it is that if your tf is not 100% charged the battery power will transfer to the tf until it is, essential making the dock a portable charger as well.
I can't speak more highly of this tab and dock, to think,i was intending on buying a galaxy tab but it was sold out so I bought the asus on an impulse... Sure am glad I did!

At 250 bux, its worth it. At full price (32 gig version is selling for 399 on amazon) I'd wait. Especially since 'waiting for the next best thing' in this case is most likely only a month away.
My girlfriend has an ipad2. And while I prefer this OS, hers is much nicer to hold. And with the prime being thinner and lighter than the Ipad2, that's a huge selling point for me since the vast majority of the time I'm using this while lounging around.
while the TF2 is an overall upgrade from the TF1 its not exactly lightyears ahead of it. If you can snag the TF1 plus dock for a deal on black friday/cyber monday I'd do it. But if you cant then I would just get the prime.
Best Tablet Investment I Ever Made
This tablet is definitely worth buying. ASUS does a great job of keeping it up-to-date. It runs apps and games wonderfully. Like others have said, I have barely touched my laptop since buying it.

i think that you can save your money and, maybe, buy some wireless and much cheaper keyboard... you don't need the keyboard dock to play games... so it is better to buy mouse and wireless keyboard saving some money
If we consider both it is a matter of opinion and use.
dock = $123 amazon, includes usb port, sdd card access, charging, and a decent keyboard.
no dock = usb port $25, usb to sdd card $10, android bluetooth mouse and keyboard $90 - can't charge while using usb, with most cases tf300 has to be inverted to place usb at the top for use, charging, and orientation can be an issue when it switches to portrait mode plus power button hard to access when placed at the bottom.
Personal preference!
Keyboard dock @ gamestop!!!
MAN i got my whole setup from game stop...
if you have some old games you dont want trades are up on doubles right now through the weekend...
I FREAKIN LOVE IT... the key board is smooth to use, has a very reflexive touch pad and it normally takes me about 2 days to kill all of my battery with the power on max performance... GAMESTOP will even demo it for you...to let you get a feel for it... i like it WAY better than my laptop.... its like having a notebook...so...like he ^ said...user prefence... you decide...i think its well worth the buy...
how about chating ? facebook ? good use ? smooth ?

Buy the dock. Very well done.
also, I just smashed my screen this week.
for 4 months it lived in the dock in my backpack, and I would just pop it out of the dock if I didn't want the keyboard...
I got a big ole silicone case for just the tablet last week. took 1 week out of the dock for the screen to get smashed...
buy the dock because when you dock it, the battery in the dock, initiates a charge on the tablet battery until the dock is drained completely... then you can undock it with a full charge, or a lot of charge at least... and take the tablet further if need be.
the battery in the dock gives you STUPID awesome battery life.
it's only $150 full retail price for the dock with battery inside it.
I'm looking at $200 to replace my digitizer/screen.
dude. Get the dock. you're droppin all that dough for the Transformer tf300... get the $150 dock too!

facebook is awesome to use on it especially with new update for the jb. when asus designed it they definitly put the best of the small size to match the tablet and the versatility of a fully functioning keyboard... you can even use macros like you would on your pc like ctrl-c and such with some setting adjustments. i like how fast i can type without switching between sym and abc especially if you message or type alot like me. and i personally cant stand having to touch keys on top of my text where i CANT SEE what im typing...or crane my neck to see my screen when i lay down to use it...and unlike my bulky 22" laptop, it actually FITS MY LAP!!!... so yeah... I deefinitely would recommend this for ANY & EVERYONE USING AN ASUS TRANSFORMER... besides...who of all your other friends have tablets and how many can go BAAAMMM!!! MY TABLET IS NOW A LAPTOP!!!???... BUT like i said go to bestbuy or gamestop an take a test drive my friend...well worth it...hope i helped...message me if you have any other questions...
P.S. the dock also has a usb port which i love using with my 500GB external HDD and external bluray/dvd/cd burner, and a regular sd card slot so if you have a camera with old school sd cards you can just upload pics to FB etc all from your ASUS or but the micro to sd adapter for like 5 bucks and edit stuff from your phone...the possibilities are endless with this thing...AND quick buttons for all your settings and programs right infront of you at your finger tips.
P.P.S- IF ANYONE FROM ASUS IS WATCHING THESE POSTS, I WOULD SUGGEST HAVING A CHAT WITH BEATS AUDIO AND INSTALL TWO LITTLE SPEAKERS AT THE FRONT BOTTOM OF THE DOCK (LIKE HP AND DELL HAVE THEIR LAPTOPS SET UP) FOR WATCHING MOVIES/NETFLIX, LISTENING TO MUSIC AND PLAYING GAMES, ETC. GIVE THE BIG COMPANIES A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY!
In Ireland, is ebay the only place to buy the keyboard docks?
does it support usb 3g modems ? cuz i have a TF300T

i got the tf300t dock and have used it happly the BATTERY LIFE IS HUGH WITH THE DOCK get one youl love it
If your still thinking about it, just get it. 88.00 USD on amazon. its amazing since it adds more batter life, sd storage and usb connection. Wouldnt recommend docking it and carrying it like a laptop though, iv'e heard people cracking their screens from it.
The only reason I buy this tablet is because of it's dock. If this tablet didn't have a keyboard dock like this, I wouldn't even consider this tablet.
I use this keyboard mainly for school notes and it's portability. So I think this keyboard is really great for me.
The keyboard is a little small so it takes some time to get use to. The mouse touch pad is surprisingly well built.
Depends on what you do with the tablet. If you travel and type a lot with this tablet, I think it's worth it. But if it stays home most of the time, then I think it's better to just buy a bluetooth keyboard and mouse for a much cheaper price.

It is very much worth it to buy the dock. It was so nice to have an android netbook where ever I was, but then I did something and the dock shorted out somewhere, sent it into asus a week ago and havent heard anything from them yet.
