[Q] So are we all keeping our A700, or are we sending them back to Amazon? - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

I have read a lot about the heat and reboots. And that amazon suspended selling for a few days, and now they are 50 bucks cheaper than when I initially ordered it.
So it is a bust? Will a new custom ROM help it? Or are we all thinking of sending them back?

I've had contact with Acer and they state that the tablet should not randomly reboot while having it in your hand. I'm sending my tablet to Acer for them to have a look at it. Also, my screen seems to have ajusted a little because of the heat. When booting, the brightness is going to 100% and with the black background (which is normal), you can see some kind of glowish corner on the bottom right. When pressing softly on the back, you can see it getting slightly more glowish (this happens also on the upper left corner, but that's normal I guess. Didn't happen on the other corners though..?). It's not that noticable, but it looks like something is pushing the display a little and when pushing the back softly strengthened it. You can't see it when using the tablet normally, neither will you see it very well in daylight, but still it concerns me. I want a replacement tablet, not a "we (may) have fixed your tablet (and the glow is still there)"..

The ambient light is on the upper left is just a reflection. The bottom right is certainly not. This photo was taken just after the tablet rebooted itself (playing games for an hour whilst charging (just to test if it would crash. It took a while this time).

The price is still the same as before on Amazon as far as i can tell. While the heat issue does suck i guess you have to make the choice if you need to return it. If its really that bad for you then you should return it and go with the Asus. I don't know what I'm doing at this point, still have some time to decide.

I'm really bummed to say it, but I'm reluctantly throwing in the towel and will be returning the A700 this coming week.
My decision came down to heat. While it's "usable" now, excessive heat over time will cause greater wear & tear on the base components. I don't want to take on that risk over time, especially since I'm much more of a power user.

Yeah, I am going to send mine back as well. Probably July 2nd is when I will send it back.
I will miss not having a tab until the Infinity comes out, but it seems that buying the Infinity is the best choice for me...

i bought mine at microcenter went 110 miles one way to get it and this thing is having issues keeping up with typing using google voice, comcast tv doesn't work, it gets hot as hell when watching 1080p videos and the response on the touchscreen sucks you gotta tap it pretty hard to get it to respond 80% of the time and on top of that microcenter is no longer selling it.
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0393117
so i am done.

It seemed odd from the start the 700 was priced the same as the 510.

ya, well you would a thought they'd been smart and fixed it.

my tablet also has that glow at the bottom right where it gets hot and it also has bubbles in that area when you press on the screen.

Well, it sure looks like I will be without a tab for a bit..
Are we all going to shoot for the Asus Infinity? I sure am.

Yes, only if the GPS works somewhat ^_^

Well, I created my Return label to amazon.
I am going to just get my money back and wait for the infinity and order that...I hope there is no massive shortage....It will suck not having a tab for awhile. I absolutely have become big time dependent on having one.

Already placed a preorder for the TF700 & this is going back the 2nd or 3rd.
Such is the life of the early adopter.

well,
.. i also have some heat issues on my a700, but i still find it a very interesting Tab .. i don't have all of the described software issues or crushes (till now .. lol) .. so .. i'm going to keep mine
.. i don't know if all the other (still to come) tabs will be better or worse, but i learned one thing .. from that what it is rumored and anounced before the first selling day, you can believe just the half .. and for the second, don't trust the 'unboxing' and 'first hands on' youtube vids .. they just show the 'ideal' and 'virgin' conditions of a product, where everything is 'fast and smooth' .. the flaws and litlle drawbacks are seen after two or three weeks of use, and that's a realistic time to say something valueble about a product ..
.. anyway .. i find that the a700 is a shot worth, so as allready sayed, i'm keeping mine and i will continue to heavyly 'missuse' it on dayly bases .. that's how (we all) will find out what it can take, or not .. and for how long ..

I am keeping mine, apart from some warmth I am completely happy with it. The ONLY other thing out there comparable would be the iPad, or the upcoming Asus TF700, but I don't like Apple and don't really want to go that route, besides you have no expandable memory, the restrictive iOS, no HDMI or USB ports, and the cheapest you can get one is 500 bucks (16 GB version), and I had an Asus TF300 and it felt cheaply built and had it's own heat and backlight bleeding issues. There is a member on here in Switzerland who actually has a TF700 in hand (they are out there), and he said it feels similarly cheaply built, flexes/gives a lot and just don't live up to the hype Asus is trying to build, I am not about to pay 500 bucks for that, I want it to feel solid, not like an East German Trabant or Yugoslav Yugo.
So, while it may not be pefect I think it's probably one of the best out there, the screen on it is AMAZING, and Acer is pretty good about releasing updates to fix issues, so I think it will only improve with time. The build quality on the Acer's is far better than Asus's, Asus's just feel cheap and plastic, not at all what I would expect for a "premium" tablet. I will definitely be keeping track of the mid July release of the Asus TF700 in the US, but so far it doesn't sound like it's worth my money, besides $450 is already pushing it for a tablet as far as I'm concerned, If you are going to spend more than that you might as well get a full featured laptop. I wish you all the best of luck, but I bet my A700 only gets better with age
I do hope more buy and keep them, we need some developers working on it, if everybody leaves, well, it kinda throws a kink in the hose for the rest of us staying with a A700.
Edit-I actually had an A510, I returned it for the Asus TF300, but then sent that back and came back to Acer with the Acer A700, so at least for me the Asus Tablets are less than impressive. The iPad, TF300, A700, etc, all have issues, backlight bleeding, cheap build, heat, wifi dropping, the list goes on, maybe someday they'll come up with one without major issues, but so far it seems to be just the way it is.

"The Good:
The Pad itself has phenomenal build quality. Extremely solid - better than the Prime, even (more below).
What happens when you take a fast CPU and fast RAM, and make both even faster? Speed. Demon.
The tablet is finally backward-compatible, in this case with the TF201 dock. (Or the TF201's dock is forward-compatible. However you want to look at it.)
Asus's customizations are relatively few and tasteful. Most of the widgets are nice and customizations to the control panel are helpful - especially the control toggles and power modes.
The company cut no corners with the screen, and it shows; it's just plain beautiful. It's super crisp with no discernable pixels or lines, and produces accurate, gorgeous colors. It's very, very reminiscent of the best-in-class display on the HTC One X, just bigger.
The Bad:
The screen produces so much glare it's almost a mirror, and it borderline actively seeks out smudge marks.
The dock's build quality isn't exactly "bad," but it does feel a little chintzy.
Speaking of the dock, it doesn't seem to... dock... reliably. There were numerous times where it just spontaneously lost connection, then regained connection a few seconds later.
For some reason, it won't recognize my microSDXC card, though the TF201 and TF300 both do. Weird.
My unit shipped without the Play Store installed. That's a pretty major oopsie, though thankfully it only took a reset in order to fix it. From what I understand, mine was the only one with this issue, but I'd be remiss not to mention it.
This is the fourth Transformer in a row in which they still haven't addressed the light bleed.
This is the fourth Transformer in a row in which they still haven't addressed the ultra-sensitive, ultra-disruptive trackpad that doesn't recognize and ignore palm brushes.
Much more unforgivably, it's the third Transformer in a row in which they put the speaker on the wrong side and pointed it the wrong way for good measure."
Full review here-
http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/06/25/asus-transformer-infinity-wifi-review/
So, while it may be better than the A700 in some areas, it's worse in others. If you're expecting perfection in the TF700, I'm afraid you won't find it.

You are going to get as much, maybe more light bleed on the TF700, see the review link above.

The Asus Infinity is in my country expansive (WiFi 64 GB = $785!!), so that's not going to be it for me. I've been lucky with the $545 I spent on this device. It was a few days later $595.
I'm returning it for repair. Actually, I want another one which hasn't got that heat and crash problem + backlight bleeding. I really like the tablet and I am willing to keep it, if those 2 problems mentioned before don't show up on my replacement tablet (if I'm getting one). Again, Acer is willing to test my tablet and I hope so that they're going to send me a brand new one.

are some of you guys thinking that ACER might possibly release a Software update to resolve some of these issues?

I am, but the heat issue is most of the times an hardware problem. Though, it could have been a software issue, but since Acer is willing to take the tablet back for research (because of the crashing when playing a game whilst charging and holding the tablet in hand), it doesn't look like it is a software issue. The backlight bleeding is caused by the battery swelling up or something? Anyways, something is pushing the back of the display. Also a hardware issue. Though I seem to be (with one exeption) the only one who has the backlight bleeding as far as I know. Acer said (anyways, that's what I read) to roll out an update which will solve the lag problem (lag as in full HD video, reading pdfs, browsing etc.).

I am really confused, when i read a negative comment i hate my device and want to sell it,however when i read positive comment i change my mind, get happy and want to keep it. And are we really returning our devices to buy an unknown device(not released)? Maybe it is worse and full of problems. Also, a big prove is that asus is now for software and hardware problems, there system mostly crash and force close to reach weak signals in both wifi and gps. Btw i am not facing any problems only slight heat. Is it worth the return, and wait all over again? I am not really sure. I think we should wait till acer release software update maybe it will cure some bugs. What do you think, i should make my decision but till now i am swinging between both tablets? I read on asus transformer prime and tf300 flashing screens bright spots, where these bugs fixed or not in infinity

I have had the Asus TF101 and TF 201.
The 101 was fine...But had a lot of lag issues. The 201 had massive backlight issues. It was not impressive at all.
The Acer A700 has a fantastic screen. Best that I have ever seen. And only mild heat. I am doing exactly what you are doing. Back and forth. I guess Ill sleep on it tonight and go from there..
Some others are correct. Asus has had their issues with hardware as well..

@the above 2 posts. It sounds like you both have A700s without the crash issue. If I were you I would definitely keep the tablet. Mild heat is normal and if it doesn't get worrying hot and it doesn't crash , you could to look to other negative comments or just be happy with the tab

[UPDATED] Quality Control / Reliability Poll

I figured I would get an updated reliability poll going since many people are getting their TF and docks now.
Many of you have reported multiple issues with their device. Please vote for ALL options that apply to your situation.
Thanks and vote away!
There's no poll to vote in that I can see.
Edit: there she is.
fail!!!!!!
It's up guys. It just takes a while to get it created. For some reason, the post comes up before the poll is completed.
Light leak and creakiness here. Not sure if I should RMA or not considering I could receive one with issues that are worse.
Light leakage, dust under the screen, very small gap between display and bezel and creakiness here
The question is whether you will keep in spite of the defects.

I had the following:
Light Bleed: Not even sure it is avoidable with this type of screen.
Screen wasn't flush with the housing on the right center inside.
2 dead pixels.
The screen was off center or skewed. Kind of like an old CRT monitor that you had to mess with to center.
The back has some give but I'm not sure its an issue. Its wide, weight seems evenly distributed and it doesn't seem frail or weak.
I returned mine to the vendor for a replacement due to the off center screen and dead pixels. I only hope that the replacement doesn't suffer from the same issues. I should know by the middle of next week.

Unfortunately I'm out of time to get it replaced by the store where I purchased it and ASUS Italy repair facilities still can't accept any RMA for the TF101.
The tablet itself works fine so I'll just wait some time until they'll have solved most of their HW production issues, then I'll submit a RMA ticket.
It is alarming that the vast majority have some king of issue. This is really not common for Asus based on other products they sell. They're actually considered one of the most reliable manufacturers of all.

Only problem with saying the vast majority have some issue is this may not be true or any real indication seeing as internet community behaviour is such that people post to moan when they've got problems and less likely to scream and shout about a perfect device as they're more than happy playing with it doing other things. Just saying that's all. I will have my TF bundle Friday night when I collect it so will be able to see if it's got any issues I notice but if it's perfect I won't be posting to say how great it is if it's perfect I'll be too busy enjoying it lol
Mine was dead right out of the box. Wouldn't even power on. I returned it and am now waiting for my amazon preorder to come. I am so glad i did'nt cancel that. If that one has problems, i'm gonna wait for the samsung
Question, does the build quality matter where the tf was made. I don't have my tf yet but I seen in a video that the box of one tf said "Made In China."
Were everybody's tf made in China?
Maybe this can determine where the bad eggs are coming from.

My main issue was the dock, but after receiving a dock firmware upgrade everything works flawlessly. Once HC 3.1 hits, it will be the best tablet ever.
I am going to refrain from voting for a few days, aside from one SOD I've had zero problems with either the tablet or the dock so far, I will wait a few days though before voting.
I understand that there is a huge bias towards those having problems as those that don't are less likely to report. However, such a poll can be helpful in indicating the majority of the problems people are having. It is alarming, still, that there is such a high disparity between those without problems and that do. I was expecting, well, hoping, that it wouldn't be this bad.
doron: They're all made from the same location/plant I'm sure. That's not the issue.
and now my housing separation is getting worse. first it was all tight and no creaks, then creaky and squishy on the left side (the lower left corner, could be squeezed). a day later the right bottom corner is squishy, but not as bad as the left.
last night the left side has increased to up to half the left side being slightly separated.
i'm almost 93.269% sure this thing's going back... if it does i'll have a dock and skin for sale at a pretty good price.
as reliable as their laptops are rated it's actually disappointing to hear all these mfg problems with their tablet. it's not like this is their first tablet.
I'm debating on sending mine in.
What we really need is an official announcement from Asus stating "yes, the first batch had manufacturing issues but the next batch is better. If you are experiencing XXX (IE: Light Leaks) Then please send it back for a full replacement"
I too have light leakage and my backing is lose around the bottom where the dock goes. It bubbles a bit. My dock also doesn't want to stay connected when the trackpad is in use (firmware coming i hear) so...
I know Asus responds to a few of these posts and all but a total PR about the issues would be far better than 100's of reviews stating "X Problem" and then people just overall assume the product is poorly built...which it is currently.
I do love it tho, but next one released with a keyboard at a reasonable price might find me as a buyer and Asus might find this one on the way back for a full refund.
My SD card won't eject. I feel it springing in a bit when I push it in, but it doesn't pop out.
Not a HUGE issue, but a definite QC failure. I may check with BB in a couple weeks to see if they have any stock and exchange it, but if not, it's only a minor issue. I slapped a 16GB card in there and I rarely remove it. I'll mostly use the USB ports and full size SD card slot in the dock.

[Q] To RMA or not to RMA...

that is the question. I've been using my 32 GB Transformer since it arrived on May 12, and I have to say that overall I'm a huge fan. Since I have seen so much on these boards about the various QC issues, I gave my tablet the once-over almost immediately. The speakers seem fine, no SoD, etc. The only defects I found were about 4 points of light along the left and bottom of the tablet when held in landscape. These show up at about 80-100% brightness with a dark background (not a black jpg), and are not terribly invasive. However, as I use the tablet more, it is a bit annoying just to know they're there. I've also experienced a bit of screen flicker (only with Angry Birds so far), but suspect that this may be more of a software/rendering issue. So the question I have to ask myself is "Do I send it back?" I've heard a number of stories on these boards and elsewhere of people who RMA'ed, waited, and got back a poorer product than they started with. I can live with a little light bleed, but I'm not sure I want to. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
--SemTechie
I'm kind of in the same boat. I've got a single hot pixel and obvious light bleed that is mainly noticable with black/dark backgrounds. If I send it back to the retailer I could end up waiting a month or MORE for a replacement that may have the same or worse issues. And then what happens? Would the retailer take it back and keep this back-and-forth game up till I recieved a tablet that has no isses? I doubt it. I'm thinking that maybe I should call Asus and see what they have to say about the backlight bleed on the tablet.
No matter what you do you will be taken care of, if you RMA it now or in 6 months from now. Asus has great warranty support. They even pay for the shipping away to them for RMA. Most companies make you eat that cost.
Seems like the QC issues are widespread throughout the TF supply, which means the manufacturing process is flawed / needs correction. So, RMA'ing now might not yield good results. Might be better to wait a couple months to RMA, assuming that ASUS would actually address and correct the QC issues.
I've noticed some light bleed in a couple spots when cranking up the brightness, but since I don't usually have the brightness over 50% and I don't tend to stare at black backgrounds I'm just brushing it off....for now. When I read that customers are getting TF's RMA'd w/ new TF's w/out any issues, then I'll consider RMA'ing.
I am also waiting to RMA.
My HDMI port is really unreliable and the connection will be detected and dropped constantly if you touch it at all. If you jiggle it just the right way it will immediately put the tab into a SOD. I've already called ASUS to get the issue on record but I told them I'm waiting to RMA until after I've heard of other's successfully repair experiences.
I only have very minor light bleed and a tiny creak in the top left of the chassis, both a non-issues but the HDMI port sucking really bothers me.
Light bleed is pretty common to bigger ips displays. Do a search for iPad light bleed and you will see what I mean.

This is exactly the problem. People go looking for trouble, and trouble is what they'll find.
I'm having same issue. At first I didnt' want to think of it and didn't try to look for it. But whenever I start some apps and the screen is dark. I can see som light bleed on the side and one very annoying one in the middle of the screen about an inch long. I can live with the sides...but in the middle of the screen is pretty hard to accept.

[PSA] TF700T Light Leakage

No tablet I have had has had light leakage. Between myself and family members, I have had time with the Acer A500, the iPad 2, the iPad 3, the TF300, the TF700, and more, and not even to mention the number of phones and other electronics I have used. I have never had a device with light leakage until I purchased the TF700. I swapped a broken A500 for the TF300 (under the best buy protection plan) and used that for a bit, until I got the TF700T 64GB Gray Model and my wife took over the TF300 and got a dock for it. The first TF700 had light leakage, and it got worse over time, earlier tonight the Best Buy finally got some 32gb models in, and my wife swapped my TF700T out for me. The first exchanged model still had light leakage, and the second exchange model as well.
Ive spent the last day or so researching light leakage, particularly on the TF700T. While I am no stranger to light leakage, I wanted to see if there was anything unique or common about it with the TF700T. Below, I have included a graphic that I hope helps to sum up the culmination of my research.
Yes, I know there is at least one other post about this matter, but this post is more for information purposes and not query purposes.
If you have light leakage on your device, I encourage you to report it here, and report where on the device your light leakage is occurring. That was we can update the graphic as needed, and help keep this information post as information as possible.
Thank You.

Mine has it, but really only noticeable during start up. Not really a psa, known issue. No point for the thread
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
This may be just an isolated problem
I used to think that it was an isolated issue, until I started looking around, finding many reports for transformer models TF201 and TF700. Not to mention that in the images posted and the reports given, the leakage occurs at some of the same common locations.
I have had three of the TF700Ts that had light leakage. I would LOVE to find one that does not have light leakage, but it seems implausible. At this point, I may swap out for a galaxy note, but I do like the higher resolution.
Im glad to see that some people are not having this issue, but I wanted to post something for those that are, and to help consolidate the information that I found in many threads. I would like to hope that threads like this would be started for known issues, and not left to just random posts within random threads. Before I purchased my TF700T I would have LOVED it is someone posted more about known issues. Instead, all I read was great reviews, and now I am stuck going to and from the store trying to swap out my device for one that has no light leakage. Wasting gas and time and apparently annoying the hell out of the best buy employees.
It would definitely not help to describe what light leakage is...
Question: Is there any proper way to test for light bleed? I tried using the "Screen Test" app suggested in the graphic and my light bleed doesn't occur. However, I know I have a little during startup so I know it's there but it goes away so quickly I'm not able to get a good look as to the extent.
For those who want to complain about there even being a post with info on this matter, please feel free not to reply or comment. This post does not benefit from irrelevant and unhelpful replies. This post does not concern you. This post is for those of us who spent 400-600 bucks on a new tablet and have a "known issue" that should not be occurring on a 400-600 dollar device.
As for testing for light bleed. Keep in mind that light bleed is not an issue that will damage your device, but is more of a symptom of poor quality or potential other issues. However, minor light bleed is nothing to be concerned about. If you only notice it during boot, and no other time, than I would not be concerned with it. There are times that my light bleed is more prominent as well. Setting a black background and then checking it is also a good way to look at it. The best way is to get nothing but a black background, or as close to it as you can, and then being in as dark a room as possible.and turn brightness up as much as possible. This will help to clearly pinpoint bleed areas. Some people have also been known to use long exposure on a camera to capture the bleed.
For a little bleed, its really about how annoying it is and rather you care. However, too much light bleed, or bleed that is not around the edges, can be more indicative of a defective screen.
I also have light bleed in the same "Hotspots" that you've illustrated. Light bleed drives me nuts, but in this case, it's really only noticeable at boot-up when they set the brightness to full. It's not noticeable under normal use, unless you are *really* looking for and the brightness is set very high.
To be honest, if you don't notice it, there really is no need to "go looking for it" by turning up the brightness, sitting in a dark room with a black screen - who in the hell would normally do that!? Light bleed is a common issue on all sorts of devices and it is certainly not an Asus-only issue. Yes, even some the infamous iPads have light bleed.
Maybe you've been lucky as not *every* devices will have it, but the majority will have some amount of light bleed. As long as it doesn't bother you, don't worry about it! Obviously, if it's bad enough that you constantly see it (or it's in the middle of the screen or something like that, which is rare), then by all means exchange it, but I don't think we need to have everyone going through these stupid "try to find it" tests.

Post pictures of your light bleed..so we can compare

This is not meant as a witch hunt for light bleed. This is mainly to identify the details of the known issues, to inform the consumer. I never knew about this light bleed issue when I was reading reviews, but shortly after discovering the very noticeable light bleed issue on my device, I started seeing TONS of information coming from people having similar experiences.
The common issue with these posts has been the query as to whether this was normal or not? Should it be returned or exchanged? Why is it happening? Will it cause problems in the future? etc
I agree that we should not be sitting around trying to nitpick every pixel, but some people want to do that. It is up to the user. Not to mention that people should be aware of when there may be issues with their 400-600 dollar device. Though, part of the initial information was for people to understand that many of the devices suffer from some degree of light bleed. That way people are not freaking out, as I have been seeing them do on other posts and forums, when they see something small.
i have 2 infinities, i have one and my dad another, I have a very very tiny leak, maybe smaller then the size of the white part of your nail, its right above the bottom right corner and only visible at boot. My mom has an ipad that has much much more light bleed and my sister a toshiba thrive that seems to have bled out light everywhere. Toshiba is terrible, what a crappy tablet
Leakage as well.
I purchased a TF700 Grey 64GB from best buy. I had a LOT of bleed in mine. The lower left corner where the back and home buttons are was very bad. It was a large area about 2 x 2 inch triangle in that whole corner. There was 5 other quite noticable spots around the rest of the picture. 2 on top, one on the right and one on the bottom right corner (not nearly as bad as the lower left). So mine actually had a lot of bleed.
Now its wasnt overly noticeable in normal use, but when I fired up videos / movies and it got to darker scenes the lower left corner really stood out.
I just yesterday exchanged my TF700 for a TF300. The 300 has some very small bleed spots, but they arent nearly as bad as all the bleed I had on the 700. I did the exchange (party because of the bad bleed) and partly because I felt the 700 was fairly buggy in terms of software. Often sluggish on many apps. The 300 I feel is a better performer atm. Most apps run better / smoother for me. However I must admit that I do miss the higher resolution of the 700 screen. Oh almost forgot - a big deal was the battery life was terrible. Watching a video especially, even just browsing and jumping apps my battery drained FAST. I was only getting 4-5 hours. I did the full charge cycle as directed too.
My vote is that I like the performance of apps and general use better on the 300. However the extra res on the 700 was nice (minus the light bleed). Everyone says the software is supposed to get better, but the big problem is you never know just how long that can take. Can be anywhere from a month or two to six months to a year before the 700 will be fully optimized.
I feel very conflicted, lol. I want a 700, but the 300 is better atm.
I just received my new Asus TF700,and i see a lot of light bleed, this is my 3rd TF700 and I'm getting sick of these little minor details that Asus couldhave fix.
First one light bleed
Second one games flickering
3rd one light bleed...
What should i do?

Are all your purchases from the same store?
Personally I'd give up and buy something different.
I no longer have my TF700. Havent had it for a while. Have the note 10.1 now. Absolutely LOVE it. Had a little bit of mild light leakage on one or two models, but its great now. However, I figured I should post the response I got back from ASUS about light leakage. Took them a while, and it is pretty bland and what you would expect to receive back. .... so nothing too exciting.
Good morning Mr. {EDITED},
I do apologize for the condition you have seen, regarding our tablets. At times, there can be production shipments that do have the same issues, since they were all manufacturered at the same time, causing defects such as this, to be evident. I want to assure you that this isn't the overall quality of our products, and if this was to happen after purchase, it would be rectified via repair, or replacement, directly from us.

I have light bleed in the same locations as the OP pointed out. Its especially evident because its mostly along the Android black status bar on the bottom. Sometimes I find myself rotating my tablet 180 degrees just so that its not as visible.
There isn't an option for me.
I get really bad light bleed when I turn on my tablet sometimes.
Then it fades away in a few seconds. I don't mean that I get used to it, it legitimately fades away. I have no idea how this is even possible.

It's possible because during start-up the screen is at 100% brightness and then dims to what your settings are. Want to see it come back? Turn your brightness to 100%, hit the Super IPS button for good measure, and then go to your apps menu and look around the edges.

Definitely not.
This happens even when I set the brightness to a consistent level (no auto tuning). It happens no matter what brightness I set it to.
When I turn it on (from sleep mode), it has bad light bleed but then it fades away after leaving it on for about 20 seconds.
Just got mine in today. The initial boot showed what I would call some pretty significant leakage in the "hotspots" you showed, but once it got to the setup screen only one spot is barely noticeable. With the brightness almost halfway up it's still barely noticeable with normal use, is that considered "minor?" I haven't tried watching any videos yet so I don't know how annoying it will be with black bars at the bottom.
I'll try to take a picture of it, but so far I'm a bit relieved compared to what you first see when it boots up. That looked pretty bad.
EDIT: Here is a picture that doesn't necessarily even show what I see. The bleed in the upper left isn't near as bad as my eyes see, but the bottom is fairly close I think.

Thanks God I Finally get a No Problem Tf700!

I returned a TF700 and replace a order again on Amazon
I just got my TF700 and the first things I do is press the screen down to see if there is a clicking sound or loosen screen problem.
Thank god it doesn't have such problems
Then I turn it on and check for light bleeding. Well, there is a light bleeding spot on the left corner, but not obvious and won't be notice under normal use.
The rest of the TF700 are fine.
Now I am waiting for the case and screen flim.
I am not going to use it until the case arrive, last time I drop it from around 5~8cm height and the corner just blend and the screen pop out. I cannot believe how weak the structure is (Absolutely much weaker than the ipad!)
Hope the case could give some protection.
Waiting for JB now

Yes, +1 on the case. It's really important to have some protective covering for this device. It's so beautiful and it would be such a shame to scratch and mar it up.
Without issues, Asus's tablets are the best:good:
Sound funny but it's true.
Do you have Bluetooth earphones to test it out with? I am happy with my tablet except for the Bluetooth audio lag.
What about lags and performance ?
Mine is perfect built with no hard ware issues, but I feel there are some software issues. I want to know is it common issues or only mine.
Some lags in main screen when first time going through them it looks like it needs time to load the pages and when downloading/updating apps from the market there are some freezes in screen and sometime while browsing using chrome the device become unresponsive and the screen freeze and I have to shut it down...
The device is great, but I'm wondering about the software issues and smoothness of this CPU

same here but i think it's more noticeable because i have a nexus which is very smooth. hoping jb solves all the lagginess.
I just received my TF700T 64GB from Amazon yesterday and no issues with the screen clicking, actually it is very solid. It does have some light bleed out on the start up screen. But any other time it is not noticeable at all. As for the BT issue, that I am not sure of since I don't have a BT headset.
I did have a Freeze and Crash with loading Glowball. Once I turned it off and back on, it didn't seem to have any issues. The lags, in loading pages I have noticed this every once in awhile, which is strange. Wasn't sure if it was my Wifi network. However I have not had any lagging to the point that it locked up the page where I would need to shut down and reboot.
As for a case, that is not for me. You purchase a device like this due to performance and how thin it is. By putting a case over it, then it is thicker like some of the competition. Besides when dust particles get behind the case it will scratch the aluminum anyway if not careful. Not quite sure how one drops such a heavy device. If you have Accidental Damage insurance on it, no need to worry. File a claim and get a new one, issue fixed.
Traded my prime in at my local BestBuy for an Infinity. Clicking around the screen and the buttons were mushy. Second Infinity the buttons were still mushy and there was a poor mesh between the aluminum back and the plastic strip. THIRD Infinity SEEMS ok (cross your fingers) buttons click good, not really mushy, no clicking around the screen, all seems well!
The clicking could be because the glue they use stays tacky for a bit. I would assume that after a month or so it should cure and stop being tacky thus the clicking. Just an idea tho...
It's actually a shame that there are threads devoted to receiving a flawless prime. Not knocking the OP or anything, but it's crazy how we shell out 1/2 a G for a tablet and "hope" that it's a good one... I got fed up with the stutters, lock ups, questionable-hardware-so-lets-blame-it-on-the-software concerns... I had a tf201 and was lucky enough to be able to return it directly to Asus and get a full refund, then I turned around and got the tf700... Went through two of them. First one had mushy buttons and a clicky screen... It was a c7... Then got a replacement which was a c6. Turned out to be a better build than the c7, but the GPS didn't work independently like it should have. Then, I checked the c7 and that didn't work the way it should have either. Both needed google location services active for GPS to work! Between that and reading about the tf300 issues with JB and experiencing the sluggish response times, non responsive touch screen, icon-less home screens, app force closes, decreasing wifi reception and just about every problem under the sun (ala prime), I finally decided to return it to amazon for a refund. It seems like the infinity starts to get really slow as you use it more and more... It has potential, but I don't have the time or bank roll to wait and gamble...
I'm sure there are people who have perfectly working infinity's but I wasn't trying to hold my breath any longer just to hope that JB would correct all the issues... I'm actually eyeing the iPad, but will probably wait until October to see what apple has up its sleeve... I don't care for apple, but truthfully speaking... Their products have a LOT less issues and the developer devotion to some solid apps only available on the iPad have me steered in that direction. I mean, I can't get scrabble for the infinity or the prime (when i had it)... Really?!?!
Well, good luck to the infinity owners, I'll still follow the forums just to see how things turn out, but I think I'm done with Asus... It's really a shame, because they have so much potential...

build quality issues still present

I purchased my first tf700 from Newegg 5 or 6 weeks ago. The build was excellent. No screen separation issues and little light bleed. I ended up RMAing the device due to a weird screen issue where it was randomly tapping/swiping by itself every now and then.
I just received my new device which has an 80 serial number, and the screen is separating. If you sight down the edge of the top you can see that it actually bows out quite a bit toward the middle, and it clicks when I press it. SO FRUSTRATING!
Newegg's RMA procedure is as painless as it can be for an online purchase, but I think I'll return this one for a refund and purchase from Best Buy so I don't have to spend the foreseeable future shipping Infinities back and forth.
yeah

Guys, there are like a thousand threads on these same issues already here, each with perfect solutions for dealing with the situation should it arise. Must we have yet another negative TF700 thread? My 700 is perfect, and so are the majority of people's as well. Continuing to populate the forums with these types of threads though does nothing but scare away potential developers from wanting to shell out the cash to pick up one of these tabs and develop awesome roms for us!
I do not mean to sound rude, nor am I flaming, but please, mods lock this thread before it spirals into something worse.
I agree with theanarchist that this is the same thread that we've all seen. But I also don't think most peoples tabs Are perfect. Some (like me) are still trying to find a perfect one And some have just accepted what they have and have given up. Others (like you) managed to get a perfect one.

Mine's not perfect, clicking near the hdmi port and you can click it from a good portion up towards the middle of the screen. I personally gave up on Asus, though hearing that there are people that have indeed perfect ones makes me wish I had exchanged it. I was hesitant because I had already returned a tf300 (screen issue) and then later the Prime that I had replaced the tf300 with. I had only returned the Prime to get the tf700, as I was pretty frustrated I couldn't get the gps to work EVEN with the dongle Asus sent me. I didn't have any wifi issues really nor any screen clicking issues with the Prime and though I like the infinity the screen clicking annoys me. Wondering if I should rma it directly to them, just don't want to get a different tab back or been in a worse situation as a result.

There was an earlier thread that theorized that the build issues were being addressed in the more recently built devices. I posted to show that even with the more recent 80 serial number devices, the same issues are present on at least a percentage of tf700s.
I certainly have no agenda. I'm on my second Infinity, which will unfortunately also be going back. The first one had some extreme screen separation on the right hand side. It was an C06 serial number. The one I'm on now, my second is a C80 serial number. The screen is good, with just a slight clicking in one spot on the right hand side. I'd live with it. However the light leaking out onto the screen along the bottom and right side from the LEDs is very very noticible.
I won't give up. I really love everything about the TF700 except for the build quality issues that I have experienced. I think the OP has a valid point in saying that the issues are not fixed yet. When my second unit came, I was psyched to see the serial number on the box said C80. I was very disappointed that it too has issues.
I think...
I think the screen seperation can be because of the humidity. Where do u live?

I don't think it's humidity. I live on the west coast of the US. Pretty dry here. I noticed a curve in the glass along the top of the screen as soon as I took it out of the box and removed the skin/wrapper. It's noticeably bowed out in the middle of that edge.
I just wanted to chime in to say that this is my 2nd C8. The 1st had a June build date and it came with the .22 firmware. I exchanged that one for this 2nd C8 which came with the .26 firmware and a 20120720 build date.
The 1st infinity had power and volume button issues and sharper than normal edges all around. I can't find anything wrong with the build on this second C8 other than the haptic feedback is set really low. (Does vibrate when power on)
I'm rooted and have the dmclient froze in titanium backup while I read up on NV flash. (Guarding against a forced OTA update) I made the mistake of applying the .30 OTA to soon last time.

Glad to hear that. Hopefully, 3rd time will be the charm. I really do LOVE this tablet, I just want one that's solidly built and works.
Agreed. I don't see how humidity is going to affect Corning's Gorilla Glass 2. Seriously don't see this being a factor at all.
I suppose I am one of the luck ones as well, no discernable bleeding edge light and completely flat screen. Of course, I bought the 64GB model from BB online, and it already have .26 on it when it arrived.
I too just returned my c8 version today that suffered from light bleed, mushy/sticky power and volume buttons, separating screen which also had sharp 90 edges. The one I just picked up is a night and difference from the first one. This one is a c9 version and other than a little light bleed the construction is solid. It doesn't even appear to be the same tablet....its like the first one was a cheap knock off. Another thing I am noticing with this new one is that the speed of touch feedback is so much faster than the C8.
I did decide to purchase the extended warranty this time around...my experience with the prime has left me jaded and there is no way I'm going to be left holding a dud.
With that said, I suggest if possible to keep on returning them until you find a good one...they do exist!
If Asus can't be persistent with their perfection...Be persistent with the returns!
F me! Just noticed this one is creaking like an old rocking chair, its on the left side by the hdmi port.
Today, I swapped out my first C7 after owning it for a week and received a C8 as a replacement. It amazes me the differences between the two.
For my particular devices, the differences were:
C7 pros: The construction was very solid. I kept reading horror stories about screen lift, creaking, etc. and mine felt solid like a tank. No light bleed issues either.
C7 cons: It suffered from severe I/O issues. Trying to download something from the market would grind things to a halt until the download and install finished. The Browser lagged a bit as well........as did moving around the launcher or clearing items from the recents menu . I returned it because there was a spec of dust under the screen which just really bothered me.
C8 pros: It feels like they put better quality internals in this one! There have been none of the i/o issues, lag, or stutters. Everything is very responsive and snappy. From a software usability standpoint, this feels like a completely new device.
C8 cons: The physical build quality is definitely not as high as the first. There are spots around the edges of the glass that feel "squishy". There is also a bit more lightbeed but i would not call it bad by any means.
For now, I am going to keep the C8 because the performance difference alone is worth it. The minor physical build quality issues aren't bothering me enough yet to risk giving up the performance.
One trend I seem to have noticed after reading all these reviews is that the build date does not seem to have much correlation with physical build quality. However, it does seem that more recent models may be using higher quality internal components contributing to noticeable performance gain.
These are just my observations.
