Cerberus app network issues with giffgaff - HTC Sensation

Hey guys I use the Cerberus app for my security and recovery app all in one and all works great aside from one issue I have been having. When I send commands to take a photo or screenshot the phone takes it and emails it to me. Over a wifi connection this works flawlessly, but over the network connection I get a 0byte JPEG image that is always corrupted. I am positive my apn is correct as I had to set it manually for my mms and data to work. Anyone any ideas?

[Q] Ninja-07061 on Inspire 4G MMS problem.

Hello.
I know similar threads can be found on related subjects, but I've easily gone over 25 threads and have made 0 progress.
I recently flashed {ROM} Ninja-07061 on my Inspire 4G and I'm absolutely in love with it. So far, it's my favorite ROM and I really want to keep using it.
The problem lies in the fact that I can't send or receive any MMS messages without first connecting to the mobile network, something I haven't had to do in all the non-cyanogen mods I've tried.
I've tried changing APN settings, using different messaging apps and pretty much all I know I can do without risking any damage to my phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if there is anything I should post that could aid in solving the problem, please tell me, I am very very new to this entire android thing and I'm trying to learn as much as possible, but there are things that I still have no clue about.
Thanks in advance.
Possible Solution
I've had a similar problem with earlier versions of the ROM. I don't send enough MMS messages to know if this works, but at one point I had added an MMS-only APN. Something like what is mentioned in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109983
Let me know if it works.
Thanks... unfortunately it didn't work :/
I've tried many different APN options and I still get the same results. MMS I received are stuck at "downloading" and ones I send are stuck at "sending".
The issue is with the way cm based Roms change the apn when disabling data. They disable the apn completely. While other stock based rom's don't disable the mms part of it. MMS use a little but of data and that's why you see the data arrows work when you send an MMS .
Okay, let me see if I understand.
CM based roms don't let me download or send MMS because they don't automatically connect to the mobile network to do it?
I noticed that I can send and receive while on the mobile network but not while disconnected (or while I'm connected to wifi).
Originally this worried me since I have a free MMS plan, which I believe should work separately from the mobile data connection, but I don't really know how it works (because I'm a total noob >.<).
I've read a little and it seems that MMS will be free, but they still require me to be connected to the mobile network. From what I can discern, this means that most stock roms (sense based) force a connection whilst sending or receiving an MMS and CM roms don't?
If that's so, is there a way to get the messaging app to force the connection, or will I have to connect to the mobile network every time I want to send/receive an MMS? I try not to have the connections enabled due to battery life and the fact that my data plan is capped.
Sorry for the wall of text, just trying to get used to the entire android scene :/

You got it. The only way I was able to do it is to activate data (which I normally keep off due to wifi everywhere and being on a prepaid plan) when I send an MMS. There are apps that control what can connect to data. I think apndroid is one of them.
The reason sense works is that it has its own built in MMS settings seperate from the apn settings.
Okay, guess I'll have to try some stuff out, at least I can rest easy knowing what's up now.
Thanks a billion.
No problem.

You can't do MMS over wifi, you'll have to switch to mobile data to do MMS. It should work normally, but I've found that MIUI and MMS don't really go together when you're on wifi.

Ok I see. I turned off WiFi and of course my data doesn't work. I thought MIUI/CM7 fixed the loss of apn (data) issue ? Although I can make calls, I can not use data over the mobile network unless I remove my battery and reboot with WiFi off. This sucks.

Are you sure your are actually connected to the data network ? try to access the market if it fails then you are not connected.

Yup! I can successfully connect. But my apns have data and mms as different profiles. So I think its switching to mms then before it sends properly it tries switching back to data? I don't think there's a way to combine the two apns for wind mobile. But it works fine on weapon :s any more clues??
Thanks for your help so far!!

APNs are like that. One APN for data, one for mms.

Hmm I noticed in #*#*4636*#*# that my phone is constantly switching between data and mms. I've tried deleting the mms that I'm sending but the phone still constantly switches between the two. Anyone have any reasons?

I just checked and once I try and send an mms it locks the phone in this vicious cycle of switching between internet and mms apn settings. Then a reboot fixes it. Anyone else experience this? I'm not sure if or how I can give more detailed info.
i dont have any issue, but sometime when phone goes through dead spot and radio crashes.. where it stay stuck in no service, you flick on plane mode and it doesn't effect it. So you'd have to reboot in order to get your service back. Otherway around that is you go in mobile network and select your network, but apns will disappear. :d SO just reboot.

Would it be too much trouble to ask you how did you fix this? some of us are dealing with this issue and we will appreciate if you can give us the solution since there's no patch or fix out there
thanks
I looked around and found that mms doesn't work over wifi, regardless of rom or root or anything. It seems the tmo servers need to make a data connection in order to start mms send. I've never had a problem receiving mms over wifi, but sending seems not possible.
Edit: As far as receiving, I enabled "auto retrieve"and have had no problems receiving mms on wifi.

What do you mean by 'update my mobile settings'? What exactly did you do?
I cannot send MMS either and I have tried everything I can think of. APN's have been deleted and re-entered etc. Nothing works
I also have the same issue as you guys. From what I've read, the issue has to do with ICS's MSS not functioning properly on 3G, but working on Wifi. I'm not quite sure if the issue is related to the T-Mobile OTA version I installed and my current carrier in Canada, or if it's an issue plagued by all devices running the T-Mobile OTA.
I noticed that under APN settings there is a new option called 'Carrier' - Does this need to be configured for something special (LTE or eHRPD) for MMS on a european 3G GSM phone?
Still no luck getting MMS to work :-(
Working on some carriers
Hi!
I discovered that this problem is not afecting on all carriers.
On voodafone Slovenia (EU) is not workin, on other providers MMS are working ok.
...so we have to wait for fix.
solved?
Hey, can you give some more detail on how you solved this for the rest of us?
I'm on a 3G i9020t, I called my service provider (wind mobile) and they told me to "google" how to downgrade back to gingerbread. lol what dicks.
I called samsung device support for the nexus s and they were utterly useless...especially live chat so don't waste your time. They told me to try factory resetting my phone and now all my save data in angry birds is gone. Neoooooo. Oh, and it did nothing.
I hope they patch this soon...i like my MMS and I can't play .avi files now. EFF google! YOUR NEW OPERATING SYSTEM SUCKS! - except the keyboard is much better.
[UPDATE] I tried it while connected to WIFI and it works fine. I can send & receive now. Just wish I could do that on 3G
Vote for a fix here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23233&colspec=ID
But it would still be great to know what Kalimdor did to make it work...

No on Simobil Slovenia MMS is not working!
It seems that ICS can use 1 APN for both Internet and MMS. So you can try to combine both into 1, if you currently use 2. For APN type write default, supl, mms and combine proxy address etc. into one.
But if your phone company uses two different apn points (mine uses internet and mms) it will probably not work... Anyone able to help, what can we do?

same for me. MMS works only when I connected to WIFI
Same problem here....internet works but no MMS download/upload
I had this problem on 4.0.3 but it was fixed in 4.0.4.
Ive had the same problem pop up on certain custom ROMs and wasted a lot of time screwing around with APNs, kernels, etc unsuccessfully but finally solved it today by installing goSMSpro -stock and handcent sms didn't work.
Try this first, then try 4.0.4 upgrade or better yet a custom ROM like CM9 where everything works.

Download MMS over wifi

Is it possible to download MMS when mobile data is off and Wi-Fi is on? Everything I've read says not possible, is it a greedy carrier thing to use mobile data? Manufacturer? Android? I could have sworn I used to do it fine on HTC phones or Motorola's. I don't get any notifications about MMS of Wi-Fi is the only one turned on. Can we change it with a different ROM?
Sent from the Matrix
No it's strictly data. Think of it this way, texts are sent through your data signal and service so in order to receive that picture you download it through your data which uses that signal to retrieve it. Idk if I make sense but this is what I've been told.

The Verizon Message App didn't fix the phone to allow you to download pictures sent via text over wifi... Still have to turn off Wifi and turn on Mobile Data in order to get the pictures. I think this sucks as I just switched to Verizon from Sprint less than a week ago and with Sprint you could get those pictures on wifi or mobile data. Its just a ploy to make you use more data and there has to be a way around it as it is Carrier Specific and NOT Phone Specific...
I use the vzw msg app with avail data, and the textplus app via wifi. Working for me so far.

Doesn't appear to be as you describe it -- I've been struggling to get MMS picture messages through (from my Galaxy Nexus / toro / VzW) when the phone is also connected to WiFi. Digging pretty deep into the issue (a few people still working on it), it appears to actually be a bug (google this for a lot of eye-burning reading ). Anyway - taking a break from the detective work trying to figure out how to make it work, I installed Verizon Messaging on both my Galaxy Nexus and my Nexus 10, which - as you can imagine - has NO cellular connection. I'm also in my home office at the moment, in a finished basement with incredibly poor VzW network connectivity. After failing at being able to send/receive a picture MMS for the last few hours, installing Verizon Messaging seems to have done the trick: I can now easily send / receive picture MMS from the phone while it's connected to WiFi with barely any usable VzW network signal.

As long as both are on it will work. MMS goes through a Verizon data only server. That it what the problem is.
personaly, i don't get it. how hard would it be to have a 3rd party intercept an MMS and send the attactment via email thereby sending it via WIFI?

MMS breaks data

When I send an MMS message my signal indicator shows data connected and with good signal but Chrome says my device is offline. Has anyone else encountered this issue and know how to fix it?
Edit #1: Why is MMS in it's own seperate APN in the settings I added the MMS into the APN for data and it may be fixed. Why would the default be wrong?
Edit #2: Added screenshots of APN & I T-Mobile is my carrier.
Edit #3: Forgot to mention I'm in the U.S. with a MHA-L29C636, still not fixed

Not sure if this is relevant to your issue. My experience here on Vodafone in Australia is that when I receive an MMS, I have to turn off my WiFi and turn on mobile data, and then the MMS content will load. I assume it would be the same if I tried to send an MMS.

I have the same exact issue as these people who also have T-Mobile. Not quite the same as yours mine doesn't work even when connected to WiFi.
Hi to all. I am on Tmobile USA. On L29C636 rebranded from Chinese. Had the same exact issue with Mms after resting the device. So it happens after a reset. I solved the issue by deleting the APN and Mms settings and entered a complete new one based on Tmobile settings. Honestly it's the same but for some reason that's how it worked for me. By the way I had issues with native SMS mms app on the phone from day one. So I am using Textra and that was another work around for the Mms. Good luck
