[Q] Screen Protector Good or bad for the screen? - HTC Sensation

Hey guys my dad recently bought me an original htc screen protector..i haven't opened it yet and i want to know if it good or bad for the phone...any damage that can do to the screen for example if the glue melt..also the sense of touch?will be much worse???i want your opinions please

i'm using one, at first it will feel like your thumb sticks and hard to swipe, but that's just because its new. after that it will feel as if you're touching your actual screen again. i recommend you use it. i know the sensation has corning gorilla glass, but that didn't stop some little scratches from getting onto my screen.
i didn't get what you meant by "glue"...as it's not glue, it's just some sort of a magnetized sheath, i don't know what it's called exactly. so if you didn't want the screen protector anymore, it's pretty easy to take off. no worries.

Thanks i will try it

No screen protector, no case. It's how phones were designed to be used.

most screen protector don't have glue on it. because of sensation curvy glass, you will get bubble at the four corners.
so you'll be better of with the one with glue. later if you need to change it, just use damp cloth to wash off the glue.

Actually with some practice you can reduce the bubbles, I only have one tinnny one of the top right curved part of the screen.
As for screen protectors as a general they are useful, the second I stuck one on the loved the feel of the screen and still do. However make sure you get a good brand, my current one is fill of scratches and then as I use my phone some grease or oil whatever it is gets into the cracks and then it all turns to ***t.

I like my phones like I like my women! All natural baby!!!

Personally i don't feel like those screen protectors are needed, just a case for any sorts of scratches, screen or not and you can keep your hands busy with the case

Hi personally I use Skinomi, its self healing, Lifetime guarantee, crystal clear, and a LOT Less expensive than Zagg , I do the wet install. Dries without streaking or bubbles ! It's amazing. Tough but made for touchscreen. Does not interfere with sensitive touchscreen. I really love the fact it's self healing because if you get a scratch, it heals right up and you cannot see it anymore! This screen protector is long lasting ! Best protector I've ever tried! I think protectors Are great because this device is expensive and one slip or mistake and it CAN get scratched! It's worth protecting your device! Because scratches WILL happen and is its best to scratch protector rather than the device! I think you will love SKINOIMI! Just follow the directions provided. I was amazed at the quaility of this product. Also the price is right! I think you tube has a video of installation if you like to watch. I'll never use anything but Skinomi Again! Highly recommend this product!

[Q] OK with no screen protector or case?

I've had my Infuse for 4-5 days and really love the design and all the cool stuff here on xda (as usual). Does Gorilla Glass mean that I don't need a screen protector? I've never been a fan of them. Also, I'm pretty gentle with my phones and would like to keep the stock look with no outer case. What do you guys think, am I flirting with disaster?
EDIT: bought a case-mate pop case in white/gray. Very happy with case and still no screen protector.

The glass is extremely hard. There are videos of people online taking razor blades to it. The plastic on the outside, however, will be more prone to scratches. It's really up to you, but I've had mine for a few weeks, and there are no visible signs of use. I don't baby my phones, but I also am not too tough on them.
There's my 2ยข. I hope it helps.
I like using my phone naked because I haven't found any screen protectors that I really like yet, and I like the device without a case. That being said, I bought the moshi screen protector and casemate pop case, mostly for when I am going to be somewhere or doing something that could put my phone in danger...like when I'm drinking and prone to dropping my phone haha. Gorilla glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof, so it's a good idea to have a screen protector in some situations.
The moshi screen protector is a tad expensive, but I think it's totally worth it for high risk situations. You can take it off and reuse it as many times as you want, and it's really easy to do so. That allows me to put it on quick when I need it, and take it off when I know it's safe. I don't like using it day to day because I love the screen on this phone, and the matte finish on the moshi makes it a bit pixilated. However, it's a life saver in many situations, and I can stand it being on there for the peace of mind while I'm doing something that requires it.
And it's always a good idea to have a case on hand just for rugged situations, and I find the pop to be very nice. It provides a ton of protection in not so huge of a package. While it's not as rugged as an otterbox or ballistic case, my phone has taken quite a few spills from 4+ feet off the ground in my case, and it still fits in my pockets just fine. Another good case that I would recommend is the body glove mirage case. It's a rubbery tpu case that is very pocketable and also provides a lot of protection. All of the accessories I've mentioned can be found at At&t stores, but you can find them cheaper elsewhere, as they mark them up a bit.
Hope I helped!

I'll take a look at those cases, thanks! I don't do anything that drops my phone from 4+ feet off the ground, I'd have a freaking heart attack!
What are you doing with your phone up that high?
my plastic is all in perfect shape, but my screen has a couple of scratches on it
i try to keep it nice, but it's not easy with this big of a screen..
I didn't think you could scratch the Gorilla Glass unless under extreme punishment, what did you do to scratch it?

We must have different glass or something for our screens. I took a razorblade to my old nexus one which was sporting gorilla glass, and there was no visible sign that anything had even happened to it. There are also videos of people online going absolutely nuts on their screens with the same results.

just need something harder than gorilla glass to scratch it. a diamond or maybe some other jewels will easily scratch as well as concrete and maybe some hard steels. keys or gold aren't likely to scratch but some key rings are made from a hard spring steel and might scrach. there is also a coating of some type on the glass that may show scratches.
the plastic definately needs protection. it is break resistant but it is way soft and the lame shiny coating can scratch off.
Scratched my screen with something. Always in its own pocket. Get a screen protector.
From XDA App on Infused v2.1.0 OCed to 1.6 GHz
For myself I don't use a screen protector (had the phone since it came out). The Infuse's screen behaves just like my ole iphone4, if not better.
As others have said, the side chrome plastic will scratch easily so a case is warranted.
I actually have never dropped my phone or anything and I have two micro scratches. Samsung is willing to fix it for free the problem is you have to send them the phone and be without one for 7 days.
I work in construction, I use the Ballistics case and a screen protector on the phone, I dropped it from 10ft off a ladder onto concrete, no damage to phone or case. Best money I ever spent
No screen protector or case on my Infuse, and it's been that way since I bought it two months ago. I have one tiny, tiny scratch on the far left side of the front, but it's so far over that it isn't actually on the screen. I have no idea how it got there, I think there must have been a tiny rock or something in my pocket at one point the scratched it. Who knows. My phone has unfortunately been dropped maybe 5 times, and this never caused any damage. I think your phone will be just fine naked.
I decided to get the Case-Mate Pop case. It makes my phone look like a stormtrooper! Still no screen protector tho.

Hi guys im debating weather to put a screen protector on this baby or not, just got her yesterday. Has anyone experienced scratches? Also would someone recommend a good screen protector other than Zagg or invisishield. I'm done with those types. Also I got a casemate today but it kinda sucks, gonna return it tomorrow. Any recommendations on cases? Thanks.
I've heard from a few people on here that they've experienced scratches. I think if you are really careful you can get away with it. Some of the better cases have a lip which will protect it from falling flat on the screen.

Hi guys I have a very minor scratch on my Sensation. What would be the best cheap way to get rid of it. Thanks in advance!

Put screen protector over it. Seriously.
No way to physically get rid of it as it would damage outer layer of the screen.

Ah yes.......pinger frints
I've read online that you can use the 3m 06070 finishing compound with a microfiber cloth to polish out scratches. The screen on my Sensation is scratched from the rivets on my jeans, and I'm thinking of doing the above. It's just that the 3M solution is so expensive and may not work. Maybe do a group buy?
Just put a cheap screen protector on it. It'll mask the scratch when it's applied with the gunk stuff on the back. Cheap as chips off eBay or a local cheap phone accessory place.
Also makes getting "pinger frints" off a lot easier.
It'll help to protect it from your riveted jeans.
I got a ghost armor recently and its seems to hide my scratch pretty well. When the screen is off I cant see the scratch at all. When the screen is on the scratch is much less noticeable. Still don't know how I scratched mine up. I had it for 2 weeks and kept in a dedicated pocket. Gorilla glass is a joke.

True. Screen in HD2 is way better scratch resistant that famous gorilla glass which I scratched in empty pocket after one weeke of use. What a crap.

Just as a matter of interest, is the Gorilla Glass integral with the screen itself or a separate component?
I know from a thread I read some time back there there are different SLCD manufacturers, so I was just wondering if it's related to a specific manufacturer.
It's not related to display. Glass is a different part. Gorilla glass is just the way glass was treated, basically top layer of glass was made more dense hence increased scratch resistance. Just look up what is gorilla glass on google.

Scratch Remover?

I've had my HOX for less than a month now, and it already has two non-deep but long and eye sore scratches. I was surprised because it was in a bag with only a towel and well isn't gorilla glass supposed to be stronger? this is making me really frustrated because AT&T will obviously not do anything about it, so is there any product that will remove them? i've seen some scratch removers but haven't seen anyone who has tried it in a gorilla glass phone. HELP PLEASE:crying:
Pricy lesson and use a protection next time.
I'm in the same boat as you. I have one nice scratch in my screen that i'm living with. I was romanced a little too hard about the tales of strong gorilla glass. Hmpf. One grit of sand is all it takes, and unfortunately, I think this is what happened to me. Kids sandbox...
Same here... One decent scratch that catches the eye when the phone is off or black screen. Never used screen protectors. As in my opinion the protector wil get much more scratched and it kills the nostalgia of having this f'in beautiful screen. And as far as keeping it mint for resale value, its a damn amazing phone, but its not a ferrari lol... The $200 I paid for it new will pay for itself over the next 12 months. After that they'll have 7 more flagship phones out And this one will probably become moms phone or my sons handheld gaming device

I have 3 scratches on my screen. I decided to get some protection so it would not get worse. Ghost Armor made the scratches disapear and looks great i highly recommend.

Very thin scratches can be removed by rubbing toothpaste on the scratch with clean fingers. If it's any deeper than that, don't bother trying to get it out unless you want the glass to be thin enough to risk snapping it just by pressing too hard.
Don't try using toothpaste as a minor abrasives... It's too low of grit and will ruin your screen and just make more scratches. There are some good scratch remover kits I've used on mp3 players in the past, I suggest you give them a try.

how exactly do you do this method? because i tried applying some but when i went to clean the screen it just rubbed off
after some research im actually thinking it's the oleophobic coating on the screen that got scratched and not the glass, im wondering if there's any way for that to be fixed. i refuse to use screen protectors because they just ruin the beauty of the screen, and get scratched even easier, but im surprised that with the huge amount of users using gorilla glass phones etc, no manufacturer has yet come to a solution that is guaranteed to work on touchscreen phones, and im afraid to use current scratch removers because they are not meant for touchscreens with coatings

Scratches ruin the beauty of the screen a lot more than the protector, now don't they? High quality protectors are virtually invisible. Also, a high quality screen protector resists scratches very well. They also show fingerprints much less easily than the naked screen. You may have had experiences with cheap protectors, which are often much more visible, and get scratched almost instantly. I've used Skinomi and Bodyguardz, both of which I've had a devices for over a year, and they hold up really well. Superficial micro-scratches that only show in the right light, and only when the screen is not on.
Of course, using a protector or not is a very personal choice. But more so because of feel than anything else.

Any method that truly removes scratches is going to have to abrade or buff the surface. For that reason, they are not good with coatings, as they will obviously abrade the coating off.

Gorilla Glass is supposed to be difficult to break, and somewhat scratch resistant, but neither is impossible. All it takes is something that is harder than the GG to rub on it (possibly a grain of sand or grit on the towel or in the bag).

Weird, I thought it was pretty fine grit but I guess not.
In which case, the best idea is to use a scratch remover kit. Or just use a screen protector like the Steinheil series that are apparently very good for optical quality, touch sensitivity, etc.
You'll just have to live with it... Like red point said, any scratch removal will just involve abrasive techniques or buffing.
I haven't tried it... But a company called dynaflow makes a liquid screen protector that may fill in microscopic scratches, look it up, read its info. Maybe it'll work for you.

Sounds pretty dangerous..
Any ideal repair would require that the scratch is evenly filled with the same glass that was removed. If it was an oleophobic layer, then it would be even harder to tell what to fill it with.
Just slap an Armor Suit screen protector on it. You'll get your shine back. Did this when I had a couple light scratches on my xt910 and was good as new looking. Like sweeping it under the rug. I recommend Armor suit because if you put it in right there is ZERO orange peel affect and just looks shiny. Can't even tell I have one on.

Get good screen guard and forget abt scratches and stuff ...
Screen guard does not ruin the beauty of screen in fact it retains it
From beast called HTC One X
The scratches do not affect the viewing quality of the screen, which seems to support the notion that the damage is to the glass coating rather than the glass itself. Between a galaxy s 2, atrix 4g, and galaxy s3, the hox is by far the most vulnerable to scratches. Only time it's noticeable is in daylight though.

I think the idea of filling the crack is a pretty good one, and much less harmful than abrasive techniques. The filling does not have to be perfect, or the same material to be effective. True, you are not actually removing the scratch, but simply making it less visible, which is probably enough (and much less invasive).
I wish I knew what kind of material you could use but conceptually if it were possible, one would make a lot of money by inventing 'touch screen band aids' that would be applied like a screen protector, left on overnight and would repair minor surface scratches.

How is your gorilla glass?

Hi Guys,
Do you have scratches on your butterfly screen?
I can't find a decent protector that cover the screen fully in Singapore and now there is quite a few scatches on my screen. They are not visible when the screen is on but quite visible when they are off.
Quite disappointed with the quality of the gorilla screen.
The gorrila glass of Butterfly is very good (for me). My daughter use ball pen to draw on the monitor, no problem, her hand very dirty with alot of dust and play game (ninja fruit) on my phone, no problem... No scratch on my Butterfly upto now after 2 months.
Suggest for you:
If you want a screen protector, you could find the Nilkin or Rock protector for x920d, fit perfectly (except curved part at border of the screen). I just have free protector included in box when I bought the Nilkin backcover and just install for some days, quite good, fit, nice, clean and clear,
I have several nasty scratches on my glass. My S3 did a much better job than my butterfly in resisting scratches.
I am using the nillkin screen protector for x920d but still doesn't fit nicely.... it can't even cover the entire screen that is the display part....so i understand what deweylim is experiencing. I"m so tempted to tear it off..but then again.....scratches....:S scary...
any remedies we can use on the scatches? sigh..
It is just a 2 month old phone..
Well I must admit, Gorilla Glass sucks pretty much. Despite all fancy videos posted on Youtube.
My old Desire S once was near to me when I peeled tangerine. Sprays from the peel fallen on the screen and i didn't notice that. Of course I cleaned it later and glass looked like new... but since then it catches grease very fast and in nasty stains. Looks awful.
Butterfly first impressed me very much with its grease-repelling surface. But hell, one time I put my phone in same pocket with car keys and boom! here's scratch. Damned keys made of soft metal, that unable to scratch even regular glass, suddenly was hard enough to scratch Gorilla Glass2?? Couldn't believe that, but it's the fact.
Anyway, it looks like guys from Corning Glass have lost something very important in their researches.
I think I won't buy next phone unless it has new sapphire glass. Hope it won't be same joke as Gorilla Glass

I tried today using a strop loaded with some high grit compound from a bar that i use to strop my single bladed razor and knives seem to remove the scratches from my screen. high grit as in ~6-12k i actually don't know. But somewhere there because it gives my razor blades a polished mirror finish. Not a perfect mirror but enough for you to realise that you have a pimple on your forehead.
I got my screen looking like I just got it.
Remember to try on some corner of the screen first to make sure it doesn't scratch it then move on to your actual screen!!! I don't want to be blamed for screens that look like the surface of a chopping board! :cyclops:
I'm dissapointed like the rest of you with the resistance of this screen.
Hope your screen stropping works out fine! I'm happy with mine

how does it fade? I don't think its meant to fade. I'm pretty sure that you can get your phone replaced by whoever sold it to you. that's a defect with the craftsmanship of the phone.
Gorilla glass is not so good. And it has nothing to do with butterfly. Gorilla glass on my previous sgs3 was bad I wore the phone only in my pocket and cared of it very good, but on the glass were scratches.
The one place I like Gorilla Glass better than others out there is the feel and texture ... what I mean is like keep rubbing your finger on an iPhone/Asus/etc and same thing on a Gorilla Glass, the others will get high friction very quickly whereas Gorilla one stays smoother longer ...
Its because of the glass texture that you can see if you see at the phone at a horizontal angle in light
phone's almost 6 months here and screen's fine. except for a dent on the side when it fell once.
There're actually a few things that gorilla glass can't handle, like most common is Quartz aka 'sand'

If you have any plans on possibly selling the phone down the line? I'd slap a screen protector on it. You can get 10 for a dollar from China. If you plan on running the phone into the ground and don't care about selling it for any decent amount of cash down the line, don't worry about it.
Also, gorilla glass may be tough, but a single grain of sand rubbed the wrong way can scratch it.

The screen protectors do not stick verygood on the curved glass. You keep on getting dust under the protector in the corners.
Nope, screen protectors are useless for a phone with Gorilla Glass.
Spend your money elsewhere.
I used to have screen protector for over a year, few days ago i removed it and man... my screen never looked better it's like getting a new phone
I work in an relatively dusty environment. no screen protector. 15 months down the line.. screen is pristine. once a month clean it with a microfiber cloth or a soft cotton
cloth removes all smudges. I've even kept keys and phone in the same pocket while riding a bicycle. No scratch on screen. Luckily had a case which protected the body.
