[Q] downloads from xda - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

anybody have a fix for downloading things from xda and other sites? when using chrome and trying to download something it opens the stock browser and loops between chrome and stock browser not downloading anything. and when using stock browser it starts to load the page, stops, and closes the browser completely.

If you on an at&t based Rom you can go in app association settings and set chrome to default web.

same with stock as well. i end up saving the link and having to use turbo downloader

I've found going to settings and selecting the ask for desktop version will typically get you to the download. In chrome and stock browser

Cannot download from browser

Im on gummy 2.0 and Im trying to update my kernal, but everytime I try to download to my phone it says
"<untitled> download unsuccessful" content not supported by phone. I'm trying to download imoseyons latest kernal from rootzwiki and this is getting annoying. Ive tried all the browser settings I can think of. I'm sure it probably a simple setting change, but I cannot figure it out. Anyone have a solution?
Thanks

what browser are you using? the stock one doesn't play well with downloading from sites like dropbox or mediafire... you may need to use another one like Opera or Dolphin for that
blazing through on my 4G Droid Charge
If you're downloading with stock browser get "Download Crutch" from the market.
Sent from my Droid Charge running GummyCharged 2.0
Yes stock browser. I'll try crutch.
I was able to get it to work by installing astro, and enabling "browser downloads" in preferances.

If your phone is rooted you can just download and install Google apps (gapps)

Yes, that's correct. Question... when you pasted the browser apk in the app folder did you attempt to install it again?

I would try installing it, instead of pasting.

If you're running a custom ROM, just reflash it. If you're using a ROM that keeps their Google Apps as a separate download, just flash the GAPPS zip and you should be good to go. If that doesn't work then do a full wipe and reflash everything. I used to run into things like this, when in doubt make a back up

use skyfire
I haven't used weapon yet but if it's a stock browser that would be your problem.
Use skyfire or opera mobile.

Ok, thanx to all for the info
Opera is a good browser with pretty good download management.
For stock browser just download astro file manager go to prefrences and enable browser downloads. Its like that on all the g2x stock gb roms.

I use "Download all Files" From the market on Weapon 3.0. Works great.

Android 4.04 and Flash

I have just GEDified my non-USA Xoom and and am enjoying ICS.
Much smoother and I think the screen seems clearer and brighter
However I am just getting used to Chrome and have noticed some sites with video behave differently on Chrome compared to the stock browser.
On Chrome I get an error message saying I need Flash 9.0 or higher and on the stock the video plays. I have Flash 11.0 installed.
Any ideas?

Ignore this. I've found the "answer" but not a solution on another forum. All very confusing.
If anyone is interested, the answer is: Chrome doesn't support flash.
Does it if you side load on JB?
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
No. Adobe will only allow it on the stock browser, not Chrome.

It is but you can download the ICS stock browser in JB through the market then manually download and install the flash APK to get flash in JB. It will never be available in Chrome mobile unless adobe make a big backtrack on their current policies.

Default app selection won't stick

This is driving me nuts and I need some help, please.
When selecting what app to use as default for things like opening web links or galary, the app won't stick and asks again the next time I do the same action. For instance, if I click on a link in a text it asks me what browser to use, I'll select the stock browser and then "always" so that it won't ask me next time, but then I'll immediately go back and select the same link and it asks again what browser to use. This does appear to be only happening with built in apps. This started about a month ago and I've used several ROMS since then (currently on latest synergy) and all with the same problem whether its an AOSP rom or TW.
This morning I Odin back to stock, rerooted and unlocked the bootloader, flashed synergy and let my apps reinstall from the market rather the using Titanium Backup to do it. I haven't restored any data from previous roms/apps and its still not keeping the default selection.
I've searched the web and other people are having similar issues after a reboot but mine happens constantly whether I reboot or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
