I softbricked my P6210 (Wifi only for those that don't know the model no.) and I didn't Nandroid before it happened. Can anyone upload/send me a Nandroid of the STOCK rom for this tablet? Please? The tablet is my son's and I feel like a total noob dad for messing up his tablet.
Why don't you odin back to the stock rom?

Here is a guide on how to get odin working on your computer, you can get the stock firmware from the stock firmware thread that is right here in the developers section (btw you posted your question in the wrong section.)

I can't run Odin cuz I don't have a PC. I'm on a MAC. And I can't find the Heimdall files to flash over. If this is in the wrong section, I'm sorry. I thought since I was requesting a Nandroid backup of a ROM that this belongs in development.
Mod, if this belongs in Q&A, feel free to move. And again, my apologies.

Hi there
Do not worry. It is easy to come back to the stock Rom. I have done this a hundred of times already. You only need to read a little bit the process to install via ODIN, I recommend you use a windows based software in order to make your software work with your tablet. Do not forget to install Samsung kies with the driver to communicate with the device as well as the odin software with the stock Rom which you can find both programs in this link:

I hope you can find this information useful.

I use a Mac and have installed Windows via Bootcamp. Would that be something you feel comfortable doing to have access to the Windows platform when you need it? It's pretty easy to do (lots of tutorials out there including one from Apple) and because it is free ATM, I installed Windows 8 consumer preview - and it runs pretty well on my Mac.

Funny thing, I actually did install Windows 8 CP as a Virtual Box, but my wife refused to let me parrallel it... She said "You wanted a Mac, not a PC. I'm not having you put Windows on the Mac... When I did a Virtual Box on it tho, the usb wouldn't recognize the tab, even with drivers installed... But I was able to get a hold of a Windows based PC for a little while early this morning and Odin'd the Tab back to stock... Finally..... Thank you everyone who provided help and tried to find a solution to my issue... This is why I LOVE this site and (most of) the people in it... When a member has an issue, other members take care of it... Its really awesome... Thanks again...

I have an unlocked Rogers Captivate currently running 2.1 (JL2). I am trying to update to 2.2 with Kies. I have tried the newest version and also 1.53. Kies recognizes the phone however it will not update, it says "This version of the device cannot be updated".
I have searched for this but have found nothing that has helped me.
Try using a different USB port, I tried using the ports on the front of my PC, no go, moved it to the rear ports and it worked.
No change.
This is what I get.

Were you getting the same message in Kies?
The problem isn't Kies, as it's connecting and reading your device just fine. The problem is the firmware build on the device that Kies can't update. If you want 2.2, you can get it by flashing the one in my sig.

Yup, I got it saying I already have the latest ones, got it updating and stopped it self with error or it doesn't even detect my phone. Until I used win7 32bits laptop, and luckily got it upgraded. But honestly, I'm so disappointed with the stock froyo. After upgrading, it was slower than eclair in general, including UI, games and everthing. Especially worst is the browser speed. I couldnt even scroll on big contents sites, like phonearena.com or pocketnow.com. cuz of the flash. I bet even u successfully update it, you would wanna flash a custom rom to gain more speed or battery. Just like the same path i went through.

Why would this be though? If 2.2 is available and my phone is on an older firmware why would it not offer the update? Thats just messed up.

I had similar experience with 2.2 on my Vibrant. I found by turning plugins to "on demand" made browsing much better. Although the Captivate is far less laggy than the Vibrant, it runs much smoother to me.

If you flashed to 2.1, there's a chance that something is preventing Kies from reading it as true stock firmware. A setting or file could be missing. My ROM doesn't have anything added or removed, that would defeat the purpose of a stock ROM made for warranty purposes. Rogers didn't add much and if you don't want the few apps they did add, they're easy enough to remove with TiBu.
Go into your registry and delete any entries for KIES. Then reinstall the driver package from Samsung. It will work then.

Try reformatting the card? Did they work before you rooted? do they work again if you unroot?
They worked before the root, I didn't unroot yet. When you out then in the phone and go to the SD card setting it shows nothing. Just says unavailable. So I can't even format it on the phone. I've formatted them in many ways on the pc too

did you try pulling out the sdcard and putting it back in? does it show a blank sdcard, or no sdcard at all?

I'm glad you asked.
It works on Linux, windows and Mac. It's open source (drivers and all). It installs its own dependencies. It's unpackagable and repackagable. It shows you what you're flashing. It is safer than Odin in 6 different ways. Also, there is ABSOLUTELY NO Odin flash for the Sidekick 4G which is complete. This is a complete flash.
There is no odin package which can say any of these statements. You can click the last link in the first post for more.
Awesome! This tool saved many vibrants, where Odin couldn't touch them. Everything from flashing wrong roms, incorrect kernels, etc... thanks man!
I do suggest that you mention something about Macs possibly needing a USB hub with it's own power supply, because I know that came up a lot over there...

It looks something like this in Windows 7... Looks different on XP, Linux, and OS-X... this is because I let the OS handle the window decorations.

Hi
first off, if I am braking any rules by posting this here then pls direct me to the correct forum (very sorry if its in wrong place)
anyhow, I just got a new contract with a Samsung Galaxy S2 on virgin mobile (UK) & am hoping to root it so I can "maybe" install a new rom etc but the main reason I want root is because of the bloat that came with the phone. I don't really want to damage the phone, so I wont try until I know I am confidant in doing it without killing my baby.
can anybody either tell me how search works here because I cant find any info, or failing that tell/show me the easiest safest way to gain root on my baby.
if I root will virgin be able to tell if I ever need to send it in for repairs. I've heard of yellow triangles & flash counters & USB jigs & am very, very confuzed. pls help
I believe your model is the i9100, if so follow the guide below.

You can root via kernel which is the easiest
Sent from my LG-V909 using Tapatalk
if I root using this method can Samsung find out if I have to send it back, or is my warranty null & viod if I root?. thanks
I believe any method of rooting will void your warranty, so its best to return it to stock before sending it back to Samsung.
So again ill ask, is there any way for sum one to connect to my pc & root it for me pls? I don't want ics flashing, I just want root.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
It's not that difficult, invest some time and you can do it yourself.
There are even youtube videos guiding people how to root their device.
If you have trouble or questions about a specific step ask here.
I wouldn't recommend giving a random person access to your computer via teamview...
Its usually:
- Find out what ROM version you currently have
- Look for the right kernel with root matching your ROM
- Get usb drivers for your computer
- Reboot your device in download mode
- Use Odin or Heimdall to flash the new kernel
From a quick glance, this looks pretty solid:
http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/how-to-root-your-samsung-galaxy-s2-50004972/
Edit: was bored looked around some more.
So this actually is okay too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118693
And this was the one i used to root a friends sgs2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Most difficult part was actually choosing the right kernel fitting the ROM, too much choice
thanks for the info.
can you tell me exactly which unsecure firmware to go for pls?
these are my kernel version etc on my phone...

Try SuperOneClick. It's literally 1 click to root...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
You'll need the drivers for your phone already installed (Kies installs them for you), and you'll need to kill all processes that are related to Kies. Just read what to do on the above mentioned thread and you'll be rooted in no time.

OK so I found the insecure & secure kernel for my fone (XWKI4) & I'm pretty sure cf-root is the way to go to gain root, but now I'm confused about the custom can in cf-root, I've read that in ics USB storage don't work, video record don't work etc so my question is this, should I root it at all as ics official will be out very soon & that has everything working except flash so should i wait? The 1 thing that's pushing me towards say CM9 ICS is the lack of touchwiz UI, if i choose a custom rom I get the full ICS UI experience which is what I'm after, but as this phone is very expensive I really don't like the idea of voiding my warranty 2 weeks into a 12 month contract. you got it wrong man , you don't need the secure and insecure kernel anymore , look for the superonclick method. all you have to do is download a couple of stuff , plug your phone and click.

everything works on ICS , it depends on the ROM you choose. so far the only incomplete ROM is the Cyanogenmod 9. but i'm currently on Resurrection ICS Remix v1.0 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854 )
and it runs great. it's blazing fast and super stable and everything works great. including camera and sd storage.
Cheers so if I root with SOC how do i then install Clockworkmod so i can flash ics resurection? Thanks for all the answers

I brought this phone last year and it turns to show me this picture
RST_STAT =0x1
PWIC_IRQ1 =0x0
PWIC_IRQ2 =0x0
PWIC_IRQ3 =0x0
PWIC_IRQ4 =0x0
PWIC_STATUS1=0x00
PWIC_STATUS2=0x0
What should I do?
Can I repair it?
Please help.
Try a Jig to get it in Download mode and then Odin/Heimdall a Stock Rom.

I tried and no result
what I do wrong?
Looks like kernel panic. If your PC doesn't recognize your phone prior to using Odin to get back to stock, take the battery out for a few minutes and try again or use heimdall

I must buy 3 100k resistors NEW because I make the jig but when I measure it it has 291 k
so i must go to my shop to buy the real ones
I will be back tomorrow with an answer
thx again guys
I think 291k should be enough resistance. I remember watching a video of someone using about 291k. But I could be mistaken. Please anyone correct me if I am wrong.

1. Go here and download a stock rom to install on your captivate.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
Instructions on how to do that are on this page. I suggest going for 2.3.5 gingerbread I897UCKJ3...with bootloaders, then flash the kernel with CWM which is what you use to install other roms.
2. If you are not happy with Gingerbread, and want to get ICS or other custom roms, go here and read up on how to install a new rom over stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266
Actually, do read up on both stickies to have a better idea of the flashing process. I didn't know a damn thing about flashing 3 weeks ago, and now I've been flashing roms, kernels and modems without any problems. Just make sure to read everything carefully before doing anything. As for which rom is best...well, that's up to you to try and pick out which one is best for you.
Good luck.

my JIG, my winner
Damn Bricks!
Bricked my phone a few times and fixed it OK until i ran into the "ICS RESET PHONE" bug
Now the only way to fix is by tricking the phone into thinking the external sd card is the inernal sdcard....ADB SDK AVD...three big acronyms for IM SCREWED!
Or am I?
Found some people over at mobiletechvideos to apply the Unbrickable MOD created by Adam Outler (Genius of sorts).
Also they can provide someting called JTAG for very reasonable prices... that is unless you know you can fix it yourself. Which unfortunately I cant right now
or I would just because I know its possible, just not for me..right now.
I think its really sad that the only software to really screw up my phone ICS
was my favorite of all. I hope all is fixed when I get my Unbrickable phone back I CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!

this version of modem I already use it
I have a question : Can I put i9000 rom and stuff?
I know better how to deal with this version.
thx
Yep...as long as u use the ones in the captivate development forum because they have been ported and/or dev'd to work for the cappy--(reoriented kernels, etc, etc.)

is anything to tknow before I will try to put i9000 rom on my captivate?
Just read and read and read and be sure that u understand and know what u are doin, as well as the risks and rewards involved. And hit the Dev's thanks button for 'em. They put a lot of time and work in.

U r soft bricked.
U need a Jig to get ur phone in download mode and then u can flash a Stock Firmware through Odin or Heimdall to get ur phone going again.
If u r on a pc, look in my signature link below. There are links there on how to make a jig or where to buy one.
--U can try to see if ur pc recognizes that screen as an alternate download mode 1st though, because some here have stated that they were able to do that with that screen.--
