Running processes - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi folks,
I've just done a bunch of freezing in tibu to free up some ram (I use go launcher ex, ram pig with ics) and I want to trim the fat even more. Can I freeze any of the following?
Google services
Secphone
Device management
Media
Google account manager
Package access helper
Badge provider
Csc
Bluetooth test
Sec storage
Com.sec.provider.download
Drm protected
Download manager
I think I've frozen as much as I can safely (used a list in seanscreamz ics thread, view my last posts to see it) without borking things up, but I'm a ram junky, and would like peak efficiency.
Thanks in advance!

device management

Frozen!
Looking to improve my CPU float point and overall benchmark.
Anyone have any tips? I've already loaded the v6 script, but am looking to get as much performance as possible, safely.
I am a heavy device user, as I'm in the cellular industry and am constantly using or showcasing my device(s).
The skyrocket is the one I use as my main, and the only one I've bothered to flash stuff on, because its my favorite device to date, even over the one x, note or the LTE HD that bell has (basically a skyrocket, but it just doesn't feel...right. I dunno.)

Heres a spreadsheet from the international version, a lot are the same as our phone
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...1gdDJRekl4QmkyNmIzUmRvX2h3UDVkQXc&output=html

Yeah, that's the list I used to freeze stuff. Thanks though! There is still a lot of stuff on the na variant that's not on there, I'm not familiar enough with Android architecture yet to play around with confidence, yet, but I am trying! Hopefully by jellybean I'll be able to contribute some mods or roms! Already have a few themes, but appdroid (aside from being insanely helpful, like yourself and iceknight) has themes locked down

May go back to a Thunderbolt

Hi guys, I was just wondering if there is any chance that this phone could compete with the Thunderbolt because of the lack of RAM? It seems so laggy sometimes compared to my friends Bolt. There are so many things to like about this phone but multi-tasking can be painful sometimes. Today in Chicago his Bolt was getting 30 MB download and I was getting around 20. What is causing such a big difference? Can rooting make that big of a difference? How much more RAM are you guys seeing after debloat? I don't know much about Samsung phones but I need to get the scoop so I can make a well informed decision. Thanks guys

To my understanding, RAM is RAM. There is no gaining any by deleting bloatware. You're just gaining system storage(app space) by deleting bloatware. But whatever RAM your phone came with, is what you have. For instance, let's use your PC as an example. If you want to install a new OS on your PC and it requires more memory, you're going to have to go and buy another memory board if you have a second slot that allows you to add more memory. Once you do that, then things will run faster and you can do more multi-tasking . But just removing apps and files off of your PC will not accomplish this by itself. So yes, more RAM can make a difference. Try rooting and apply the Voodoo lag-fix because this helps tremendously. Samsung does something different with Android on their phones, to my understanding, which makes the phone lag very bad. The Voodoo lag-fix changes the file system from RFS to EXT4, thus speeding things up the way it should have been out of the box. Go to the development section and read up on it some. If it sounds good and you're not afraid of the procedures (which are explained with step by step directions and pictures to make it very easy), then you should give it a try and see how it works out for you. Hope this helps.
BTW, this will not help with your internet download and upload speeds. That's dealing with something different.
Came from a bolt. Removed touchwiz...no lag. Seems just as speedy as the bolt. Download speeds are about the same also. The only thing i miss is the dev support.

Thanks for the response. Thought some of that bloatware was using up system memory running in the background. I have read about the lagfix but I don't really understand what it actually does, well I should say I don't understand how changing the file system helps, but I guess that's why I'm not a developer. I'm not afraid to root as I've had the OG and Thunderbolt and rooted both of them. I only have few days to make a decision but I am missing the ability to surf and talk on 3G as well as 4G. Grrr why does Verizon do this!

Exactly how I feel as well. Don't miss the Thunderbolt at all...
lag is still there when you multi-task... i can play words with friends, play music in the background and browse (sites like espn, pocketnow, techcrunch) with flash set to always on and using desktop view with the Tbolt and no lag! This is using stock browser, Miren, Xscope or Dolphin.. I cant do this with the Charge unless I use Opera Mobile. The thing that gets me is how my Epic on RFS file system can handle it and the Charge cant? it has the same processor and RAM... My guess is poor RAM management or maybe the new Touchwiz base that it uses..

Deodex help...blah.. or something like that..

Hello!
Kinda new to the forums, didnt see any forum exactly for my phone.. and dodmt wamt to be ignored sooo here goes..
I have the Galaxy Exhibit 4g, flashed stock beta 1
Ive used countless of different roms.. But I just love the stock rom, althougj I live the.optimized memory I got on the roms.. id clear
ram and usually end up having 240 free ram!
But using stock I only get about 100..
The title is konda miss leading.. because I dont know if thatll fix my memory.. basicly what Im sayong is I want the optimized memory on stock.. of anyone could help.. id love you forever.<3
Android automatically manages the memory usage. The forced removal of apps running is often not raccomended (there is a risk of data loss).
Therefore, If you really want to lighten your ROM, you have to give up some apps (or service) that is memory-resident (to have a list, search in the forum).
Good luck!
Thank you so much!

[Q] [HELP] What is eating my RAM, and how do I fix it?

So in the past few weeks I have downloaded a couple 'task killer' apps in an attempt to free up some RAM usage. I'm currently using (after a fresh reboot) 515mb w/ 325 mb free. After about an hour of my phone just sitting (no calls, games, texts, etc.) My RAM usage will jump up to ~750mb used w/ 90mb free. Every time I kill an app it just reboots, eating my RAM again.
What I would like to know, is even after I 'kill' all apps (appearing in Clean Master) I am still using ~600mb. What on earth is using so much RAM, and WHY does my phone use so much?
Also: DEATH TO GOOGLE BLOATWARE. GOOGLE, YOU ARE BECOMING THE INTERNET MICROSOFT AND I HOPE YOU FALL. HARD.
tl;dr: how do i prevent apps from constantly running WITHOUT uninstalling everything or doing a fresh install

i was unaware that the kernel was unlocked. i have a HTC Inspire with CM7 running, but the screen is busted badly. Usable, but its terrible. that thing runs better than my atrix 2, and my atrix 2 has 'much better' specs than the htc.
Run a custom ROM? Custom ROM have got debloated a lot and ram management is better IMO.. Also try greenify to kill app while u don't use it..

Again, as far as I am aware, the kernel is locked. The only type of rom we atrix 2 owners can get are custom skins basically. Unless I am mistaken, I can't put cyanogenmod on my atrix 2. As much as I would love to.
Owh.. We have a lot of custom..and we can use jbx kernel kexec boot.. We have cm10.12 which is the latest version I think.. Mokee , miui v5.. Check our android dev section and u'll amazed..

If I remember the thread correctly, the Atrix 2 bootloader is locked, and we cannot get custom kernels for our Atrix 2. Yea, theres all sorts of mods out there, but without the bootloader unlocked we can't get a custom kernel, which, unless I am mistaken, is what I truly need.

That's perfectly fine and dandy, but I've had to remove my battery several times JUST to reboot due to too much ram being used. Imagine trying to load, say, the settings page, and all you get is, after 20 minutes, "homepage is not responding."
2nd of all, my PC currently has 11gb of ram free + however much the paging file isn't using. I have no problem loading anything. Once I start reaching the threshold for the amount of ram I have, my pc will bluescreen and reboot. RAM is meant to be used, by all means. but when other apps are HOGGING it, it prevents OTHER apps from properly using it. I am trying to find out what is HOGGING my ram and free it up, so that other more important processes can use it.

Damn. Thats alot of ram.
I'd say you probably have too much crap on your phone. And the fact that your obviously running stock seals the deal.
Uninstall all the crap, or install a custom Rom.

Yea, I've been keeping an eye on custom roms. Mostly waiting for everything to be unlocked before i attempt anything though. Super simple to get my HTC rooted and unlocked, looks like the atrix 2 is proving to be more difficult. From my understanding: Bootloader is locked, which won't allow for full kernel replacement, just emulation. Full custom rom features require a completely custom kernel, which can't be achieved until the bootloader is unlocked.
If im wrong about this, please explain it to me. I spent 6 months or so researching the do's and dont's, whys and why nots of rooting and unlocking my HTC before i even attempted it.
Also, I don't have a lot of 'crap' on my phone. 5 or 6 games which i recycle (when i dont play it for 2 weeks i delete it, unless i REALLY like it), i have the 'basic' apps (social networking). There's currently 104 apps on my phone, most of which i have never even loaded once, yet can't uninstall (google music, mobile hotspot, google messenger, music store, play movies and tv, read books, just to name a few)
From what I can SEE, the biggest culprit is google bloatware, forcing crap down my throat i have absolutely no use for. i clean my phone twice a month (removing temp files, directory cleanup from uninstalled games, etc) as well. I just want to see what ELSE is using my ram. I've killed all tasks, whats using 500mb of ram now.
To give you an idea, as i said before, I have 12gb of ram on my pc. i currently have 15 tabs in firefox open, steam running, and 2 games in the background. I'm only using 28% of my total ram, or 3.4gb. If I close out of everything, I'll only have 10% used, or 1.2gb. Translated to my phone, There is no reason I should be using 60%+ of my ram, when NOTHING is running.

bootloader is not gonna get unlocked, so you can stop waiting for that.
No such thing as a "Full" custom ROM. unlocked devices can run custom kernels which is much better. We have kexec. not sure if its really emulated, but something like that. I havent read up on the details.
Your way off on who you are blaming. You dont have a google phone, you have a motorola, a very crappy one at that. The applications you listed, well I've never heard of, and are motorola junk. along with alot more that your unaware of.
You will never get your ram empty. You cant. unless you turn your phone off. applications MUST run for your phone to work. Launcher, phone, system, ect.
Cant compare a windows PC to a device. thats like windows to linux, completely different.
You looking to much into it. your issue is your running stock. Root it, and install a custom ROM.

I'll look in to that. I don't want to empty my ram, thats a futile effort. I just want to find out what is using 500mb of my 800mb available. When I first got my phone, I was only using 250-300ish, tops. What happened between day one and day, well, now, that took another 200ish mb chunk of available ram. And if it truly is _JUST_ core system os files that are using 500mb of ram, well, then that is terrible coding. and i dont care WHAT brand of android you have, you are using a google phone, seeing as how android is owned and developed by google.
Here is a little list for you:
AT&T Smart Wifi
AT&T Navigator
Email
Emergency Alerts
GMail (Why are there 2 separate email apps? Email can pull gmail just fine)
Google Settings (NOT PHONE SETTINGS)
Google+
Google Hangouts
Google+ Messenger (Again, I don't use G+, why do I have this automatically installed)
Help Center (The manual isn't good enough I guess)
Messages (Not the text message app, some random junk that was installed with the OS, guessing AT&T)
Movies (Pretty sure this is Moto)
Music Store (Again, probably Moto)
My Music (Definitely Moto)
MyAT&T (This is stupid)
Navigation (By Google. Again, AUTOMATICALLY installed with os, along side AT&T Nav. Why do I need 2 GPS apps?)
News & Weather (I can look outside to see if its raining)
People (exact same thing as Contacts, this one is by Google)
Play Books (Google)
Play Movies and TV (Google)
Play Music (Google, and the 2nd music player)
Google Search
Social Location
Everything I just listed I have absolutely ZERO use for. Yes, I have a Motorola phone, but the software is Google. And, I reiterate, Google is the bloatware culprit.
11 Google Apps
3 or 4 AT&T Apps
3 or 4 Motorola Apps
All that being said; Yes, I will still look in to that custom rom, and I appreciate the help.
emulation or not.. its still better.. tbh unlocking the boot loader seems to be impossible,., yeah Motorola is suck.. but not people here.. they are dedicated to what ever they do..for me full rom, half rom even quarter rom or emulation kernel if thats gonna ease up ur my phone imma go for it.. maybe im not a tech savvy to begin with.. i've tried living with stock ics.. believe me its harder than it spose even im rooted and freezes unwanted app..why dont give these rom a go and see if its good..

I could agree with you regarding the ICS ROMs as almost all of them are based on stock ICS and are modified to have a better performance,UI,unlocked features etc...
And sure you can put a CM on A2.Hell you've got two CM actually,CM10,CM10.1(wait for it CM is about to get official for A2)

True, bootloader is locked and the bootloader does a verification which doesn't allow custom kernels. But wait that doesn't mean we don't have a cure."kexec" is the method used to bypass that hurdle of verification. It does this by taking over once the stock kernel(the one the damn bootloader looks for)loads and then begins the work of our "kexec-kernel".And it is custom Ofcourse.Read around about kexec it'll give you a better perspective.

Well I think I have walked you through most of the stuff. But seeing you read around for 6 months(really??) I'm gonna tell you a few routes you may take:
1.If you're so skeptical about custom ROMs, kernel etc and from what I see you just need to get rid of those bloatwares.Root your phone and remove them manually.
2.Install a ICS based ROM(Numa, supercharged etc). They are basically same as option 1 except the task has already been done by someone for you.Plus they threw in a few(actually a lot) more goodies which just make you go woooo...
3.Go to the next step of things get a taste of JB and experience the taste of custom kernel.
Of course do it on your own accord, as it's your device and your choice after all.
And do read around and ask before doing anything if you are unsure..
Do follow the instructions carefully...

I also removed all third party apps like these:
Google apps: Removed (Books, music, movie, etc), I kept Play, Maps, Gmail and Search
All Yahoo apps - Removed
Flipboard - Removed
Facebook - Removed
Twitter - Removed
All crappy S4 features (eyes, movement/gestures, etc) are turned OFF
I run S-Health 24/24
I only kept 1 app from Bell, the one giving me informations about what I used (data plan and voice plan)
I dont know anything about making custom ROMs. Those settings give me a great Android experience with my S4. I have no explanation regarding why I froze or removed those apps.
I tried 2 of the most popular ROMs on XDA an none of them could match my stock settings (except for battery life, it was a little better than what I had with my settings using Goldeneye and a custom kernel).
Background:
Programmer (and teacher)
Network Admin (Linux and Microsoft)
Technician
My point: Those who experience lag/stuttering should look deeper into Touch Wiz. The worst experience I ever had with my S4 was with a highly popular ROM on XDA. It was suppose to be fast. Well, it wasnt for me and a few others.
Hi there
I am realtively new to Galaxy S4 and its been forever since my G1 (had Apples in between)
But forgive me for this question - where exactly do you see a lag with those apps enabled?
I have messaging frozen as I use GOSMS to avoid random "multi sms" messages and the AT&T stuff just to remove the clutter of duplicate applications that are already provided
I am not sure where to look for lag on the GS4 - I would not think freezing dormant apps would give a performance boost.
I can understand freezing a CPU heavy app giving back performance.
I can understand adjusting kernel settings (caching for example) to reclaim performance
Is it the opening/closing of folders or a particular app that stutters?
if you can point me to something, perhaps I can fix it or agree that freezing apps does resolve the issue.

Huh?
Freezing an APP wont make the GS4 faster - that I agree with
and I think what you meant to say was:
Freezing the apps because they are using up battery (juice?) - right?
If that is what you were saying then that doesnt make sense. That assumes that the more dormant applications on your phone, the shorter the battery life.
If I take out my battery and keep it out for an hour, a day, a week...and plug it back in I have the same apps.
I have the same apps regardless of power.
Is not about having a Faster phone is about having NO LAG. Even the faster ROM in this site lags sometimes. It is fast as hell, but you do get the occasional Lag.... The only way to have a Lag free experience in the S4 is by using the Google Edition rom.
What lag?! I am on SHOStock and have no lag. People act like this phone is a top of the line computer with the latest hardware available. It is a phone. It takes time to load certain things, especially if those things are not in the cached memory or in the RAM. I am tired of seeing these posts. A 1 to 2 second delay is nothing when the app is first opened. He'll, I am willing to bet that people with this "issue" use task killers or clear their RAM every 5 minutes. This is not an old Nokia. I swear I am going to start reporting people for posting about this subject. There is absolutely no unreasonable lag with this device when used and tweaked properly, even without root. I see no one else complaing about this on any other S4 forum. Are people just looking for a way to bash on Samsung through the AT&T section?

Really? You're going to report people who complain about the thing that literarily THOUSANDS of people complain about and that you still think is 'fake'? Every web site that I've read of people who were die hard iPhone users and finally switched to Android always mention that ONLY the Nexus/Google Edition phone did that for them. All others with their proprietary frameworks/skins were too laggy/slow compared to the iPhone.
So no, there is definitely 'unreasonable' lag.
There are two issues though, 1) people misuse the word lag 2) people are not all the same. Some are fine with 30fps being the minimum they need for smooth gameplay in games, some need 60fps 3) some don't know what to look for/have never experienced a 'no lag' device and thing that lag is normal
For me, I see it. Everything but an AOSP rom is too laggy for me.
There's not just lag as a problem. Also stutters are a problem as TW eats up so much ram sometimes that games sometimes need to start swapping (obviously very graphically intense games and only after 10+ minutes of gameplay)
So relax.
Doesn't disabling apps without root do the same as freezing with tb

I am still looking for a lag
I just googled "samsung galaxy lag" and it seems that the billionth of a second delay from open an app and going to the home screen is the issue. And doing it a million times in a row. Really? Is that it?
My goodness I am looking for applications that stutter or dialing a telephone number and the digits are sticking or an application partially opening- a delay of a second or 2- then it finishing loading
If this is what THOUSANDS of people are complaining about they have way too much time on their hands. That is just like complaining about how fast a toilet flushes.
Wow no wonder I didnt notice it. I was looking THROUGH the issue
I am happy with what I got - its fast, I can call people, I can play a game while waiting for a beer, I can take a picture of boobs, I can text people, and I can get directions. The phone accomplishes what I want it to do
Like I said before. People act like his is a full blown, top of the line computer with stupid fast SSD's in it and a ton of RAM. The 1 second delay between me clicking the phone icon and it loading is not an issue. It is not lag. That is what happens when it is not sitting in the memory and it has to load up. The need for Instant satisfaction is what drives me crazy with you people. That delay that everyone gets from clicking the home button is from SVoice waiting for the second click. That is not lag. That is a necessity for it to run properly.
The reason I want to report people is because they are over exaggerating a non issue, and I am tired of seeing these posts that accomplish nothing and contribute nothing. I have seen many of the same exact thread cluttering the forum.

It's a non issue to you. Fine, move on. Don't even click on threads that mention the word lag.
It's a huge issue to others. You guys seem to fail to notice my comparison to iPhone and it's smoothness. iPhone is still ahead of Android in terms of UI smoothness. So yes these are phones and not super computers. But the iPhone can be smoothers with half the ram, so no, the S4 nor any other android gets a pass because it's "just a phone"
Likewise nobody is mentioning a millionth of a second delay as the issue. Atari you threw those numbers out. I see a 1 second to 2 second delays sometimes when I swipe app drawers. When I wake my phone is takes 2-3 seconds for the samsung clock widget to update.
Likewise there is stutter in games. AOSP roms don't have it, stock TW has it. I imagine it's the fact that TW uses double the RAM that an AOSP rom uses (1.2gb vs 600mb on my AOSP) which obviously is 600mb less for the app to have. That is just BLOATWARE. Horrible ineffecient bloated programming. There is no excuse for a PHONE with TWO GB of RAM in 2013 to have issues with running out of RAM.
With that logic and the amount of people on XDA and other Android modification sites, there should still be absolutely no issue. User error is the main reason for this so called lag.
Root the thing and tweak the crap out of it. Put a custom ROM on it. Hell, there is a ton of things you can do on stock without root to reduce lag.
I use a TW based custom ROM. I experience no lag that causes any problems. Although, I have taken the time to tweak and tune my system from the ground up. I even did it on the stock MDL firmware that came with my phone and have no issues with that. What some people think is lag is actually loading times. It will ALWAYS be there. I am not saying that there is no hiccups from time to time. But it is not nearly as unbearable as people have let on. What some people don't understand is that no OS is going to be perfect. I think that even Windows phone has a better UI than both Android and iOS. It is so smooth. But, there is still loading times to take into account details the slight hiccups that may happen due to the device clearing RAM for another app. No one ever takes that into account.

I am a first time android phone user, coming from 7+ years of i phones and I can honestly say that I have not noticed a "lag" or difference in smoothness coming from i phones. I am loving the S4 and can't see myself going back to an i phone.
Just my experience, you would think from reading some of these threads that ALL of the S4's are "laggy" or slow....just wanted to give my experience with it, it may be different for others.
iOS (any version) has a custom build for each device. You cannot take the iOS 6.13 for iPhone 5 and apply it on an iPad 3. They each have their own builds that exploit each devices capabilities to the maximum. Android on the other hand has 1 core OS build that each manufacturer either tweaks or adds bloat ware or whatever .... And there in lies the problem.
Sure SOMEONE could make a custom build for a SG4 that is specifically tweaks for the quad core CPU, it's ram, disk size/speed, etc. and make it run like water but take that same image a plop it on another phone and that performance is gone.
Now I can honestly say I don't have a1 second delay or a 2-3 delay anywhere, with exception to a game that is loading and those usually have a progress bar showing that there is activity.
Trying to help here - could it be that your lag is caused by the removal of 1 too many "bloat wares"? Possibly something is required or expected and you lag is just a timeout waiting for "program x" to respond???

That's not your place. Deflate your ego. Ever heard of freedom of speech? It works like this; you seek out what you DO want and filter what you do NOT want. I
If you disagree that's cool bro. Stfu and go cry to your mom about it. Reporting threads will only make you a bigger ass, considering they're not breaking any forum or moral rules.
When the same exact topic has been posted and locked multiple times in the past, it is breaking forum rules. They were locked and deleted for a reason. Either it was an unnecessary thread or it ran way off topic. This thread is both. The topic has been discussed not only in this thread but in many others all leading to them being both unnecessary and running off the topic. With that said, it is spam. And I don't care about freedom of speech. I have just as much a right to tell someone to stfu about a long drawn out and irrelevant topic, as they do to start said topic.
I have explained how things work with the phone, I have explained how it handles its hardware and software. I have explained that the "lag" is because people are not doing things right on their device. There is nothing more to discuss here as everything has been answered. What you are doing is telling me that I need to just stop, and not even putting up a reasonable debate on what I have said. I have backed up everything that I have said. You have provided nothing. So you, sir, can kindly piss off. If you can't provide anything logical against my argument, you have no place to tell me what to do.

If your S4 does not lag then you have some special S4 or something or you just have never used an AOSP rom before. After coming back from pure AOSP the stutters become very apparent. Opening apps isn't the problem as they open up very fast (don't know why people say that) but its the stuttering in the launcher and the apps and stuff. Like when you switch to the widgets in the touchwizz drawer. It takes time and it stutters like a mofo. I had the HTC One and that is a phone that doesn't stutter at all when going through the app drawer and home screens. It also eat up like 900mb of RAM and has terrible battery life (I'm coming from AOSP Which has crazy battery life)...
If you have ever tried a AOSP Rom like Slimbean you should know what a smooth phone looks like. Anyways the S4 is still an Amazing phone that has really crazy features that no other phone has. If you dont mind the little Stutters all over the place then good for you  but if you're like me who doesn't understand How a S600 quad-core CPU lags then I don't know what to say. Just my 2 cents, don't want to be offending in any way
Have a good day
I have had multiple devices and used every kind of ROM out there. I prefer TW on my Samsung devices and I prefer AOSP and the likes on HTC devices. Sense is horrible to me. I do like AOSP and similar ROMs because they are smooth and quick, but are boring after awhile. The reason I prefer TW is because it integrates features perfectly and the camera is much better as well. I have no actual problems with my phone on TW because I have taken the time to tweak and fine tune my system to perform with speed and conserve battery life. I can get 3 days on a full battery with moderate usage and get fairly high benchmark scores. Some of these people that complain are too lazy to even take basic steps to prevent issues. I go to varying extremes to make my stuff function how I want it to.

Same old touchwiz

I haven't touched a Samsung device since the galaxy s1 i9000 and have stuck to nexus phones since that time.
I thought I would give Samsung another blast this year and see if they have redeemed their selves over the years in regards to the amount of animation stutter and input lag since they claimed to have streamlined TW and have started using their own processors to make everything work in harmony etc.
The phone itself is really really great and I quite like it but I again am still getting animation stutter all over the place.
Scrolling in play store is horrible. The simple tasks of pressing between the tabs in the dialer is the worst out of them all them and really has terrible animation and most apps stutter like mad where my old nexus 5 was nice and smooth which I can only blame TW for. Even the keyboard goes nuts if you try to look through the emojis. There's no excuse for this in this day and age with what this phone is packing.
Is it just my device or is anyone else getting a lot of stutter etc on their device?
Is their anything that can be done to solve the issue other than swap the phone
Ta

5.1 kinda made this issue a lot worse! I set animation in dev option to 0.5x and it helps a little!
You can try a custom ROM. You often get a much better performance with it. Or try to root and uninstall bloatware. Hope this helps.

Any links to guides on this. I used Odin back in the day a lot to flash custom ROMs but that's going back a long time.

1. Use the first link if you want to keep your warranty safe.
2 A nice, clean, fast ROM you can use (it's the one i'm currently using) also, I would like to give back-to-n0t3 a shot soon.
Note 5 user here. Same issues on this device It's really disappointing Scrolling lag is so much higher than on my OPO.
I have no lag at all on mine running 5.1.1 - I'm usually pretty sensitive to it!

Please don't withhold all information. First link's method only works on S6 variants G92XF/T. It does not work on other variants and if attempted will cause a soft brick. For other variants of S6 on 5.1.1 there is no way to root or install custom kernels without tripping Knox.
On the subject of lag, proper usage of the phone and knowing how to free up RAM can reduce lag on your phone. Examples include clearing recent activities, using Smart Manager to "clean up" background activities and rebooting the phone every few days. With root you can use more efficient methods like Titanium Backup to freeze apps and Greenify to kill background processes. Don't just sit there complaining about lag this and lag that, go and read up on how to free up RAM on your phone and reduce lag on it.
