Hi since I can't find a forum for the One XL I assume it's shared within this one.
I just got my One XL yesterday and it's been having what seems to be a SIM card problem. The phone will be normal sometimes but will lose all mobile connectivity suddenly. Is this a known problem? The connectivity comes back on its on but it could be after a few minutes or few hours. Apart from returning the phone, is there anything I can do? Note that WiFi works perfectly.
Yes sir that would be a common issue among the hox .

When you say "XL," so you mean an imported XL from Asia? Rogers? AT&T? The AT&T's the one having some radio issues. I don't think the Rogers' is. And if you imported yours there could be a number of reasons you're having connectivity issues.
@barryH_GEG: I live in Hong Kong and the One XL has the right bands for 4G and HSPA+.
@tyshemi: is there a software fix to this or is returning it the only option?

Gentlemen,
What the h.. is with this phone? I got it as well last Friday and I have exactly the same problem - it loses all mobile connectivity and only emergency calls can be done .. for which a SIM card won't be needed. It doesn't look like a software pronlem to me, it looks more like a hardware problem! I've seen this behavior immediately after I received the phone and I immediately went with the phone in a Vodafone shop. The guy did not look surprise at all. He took out the micro SIM for couple of times and after wards it worked OK. I went home and after couple oh hours it happened again!!!
@ HTC developers:
Gentlemen, are you joking with this device? What's going on in the testing team?
Indeed it is a LTE phone - and it is known already that there are lots of problems with the 4G software, but the SIM card not to be seen by the mobile? How could this be possible???
Please do something about this!
I will send back this device immediately!
Cheers
I myself have exchanged my HOX for this issue twice now. AT&T knows about this issue and refers to it as a manufacturing defect with the SIM card reader while not in a LTE area.

In Australia, we have this issue on our 32GB One XL. Apparently it's a particular version of micro SIM. One specific version has this issue, the other doest.
I've seen it happen a couple of times on mine since I got it. If it happens again, I'm going to put some very thing pieces of paper under the sim card to make it marginally thicker and press firmer against the contacts when it's inserted.

Hi guys,
Just to give you an update about my HTC ONE XL. Unfortunately, I have only bad news about it !
I went yesterday to Vodafone shop and they changed the micro SIM card. They gave me a different one - also a brand new one, and I have the same problem, the phone loses the connection with the SIM card. Since yesterday it happened already twice! I've seen some discussions here about the WiFi. Just to mention that in my case the Wifi can be used, only the network is gone and stays gone until I restart the phone.
HTC ONE X also loses the connection with the SIM?
My micro SIM card does not have a 4G subscription anyway..
Cheers
Try putting tape on the plastic side of the microSIM to see if maybe you can get a more solid connection?
My One XL would keep loosing reception and saying "no sim" even though it was clearly working. I deactivated my SIM pin and it seems to have stopped dropping out and saying "no sim" Give it a try.
I have One XL and I have no sim issues, it could be the piece that you use. As for the signal drop, it does happen to me sometime, and I think it tries to connect at LTE then goes back 3G. Try to force 3G only then try.
Setting on network menu could help too. Try *#*#4636#*#*

Been having the same issue and found it in the logs. Not sure if other people are seeing the same thing though. Post with info.
Hi guys,
I sent back the phone last week and yesterday I got a new one with a "newer" IMEI. Since yesterday, the phone did not lose the connection with the SIM card.
I was told that, indeed, some of the first HTC ONE XL modeles released on the market had the problem described by us on this forum/topic. The nature of the problem, hardware or software is not known to me so far but I believe it's a bit of both..
Cheers
This happened to me and updating radios to 1.88 or higher fixed it. did not work well with 1.85 radio. Radios dont come with custom roms. They have to be installed separately or with a ruu. There is a radio thread in development. You must be rooted. Ive only had 1 person tell me they still had problems after updating.. if it doesnt fix it, get another phone. Its a legit reason. Main reason for a phone is to make calls. kinda hard to do that with no mobile connection. :crying:
Edit: here is the radio thread. 1.88 or higher. 1.88 is my favorite. The telus seems to be great also. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694012

I recall the comments above. The connection with the SIM card was also lost for the new HTC ONE XL phone, but this time after about 40 hours !
Software running on this phone: 1.82.162.6
Android Version: 4.0.3
I have no other option but to send it back again, and go for a Samsung ..

and jsut in general the network fluctuates a lot on this phone.

Maybe you could talk to your network provider? They may be having issues in your area, or perhaps you could try a new sim card and see if you still get the problem.
Can it be a hardware problem, cause there are 4 pair of contacts on the back cover, that are working as antenna. i've cleaned them the first time i had the phone, and didn't touch till today. it was a T-Mobile one, bought in US, i cracked it, and it worked fine. i think my gsm provider done nothing in my area, cause i have the same problem in other part of the city also. And how can changing sim can help me?
Thank you!
All,
I have had the One X for just over a week now. Three times, I have had to hard reset the phone because it stops receiving / making calls, and data stops.
I tried searching the forums but it seems like issues are all over the board and couldn't really find something that was exactly my issue. If there is one, I apologize for the duplicate post.
Regardless, when the phone is in this state, it appears like everything is working. It shows I have great signal, the little 4G icon is there, indicating that everything is working.
Anyone else have this problem or could I possibly just have a bad unit? AT&T already swapped out the SIM card thinking that might fix it, but no luck.

I think you should swap out the phone as bad before returning it if that's the only issue you're having. mine seems flawless in that regard. I haven't missed or dropped a single call.

I don't recall ever having that problem. Mine was pretty random too, in fact it got so bad yesterday that I missed several important calls.
If I would restart the phone, I would get all my missed text messages and the voicemail (google voice) would tell me I have messages waiting..
Very frustrating.

My X started out ok, but these last couple of days I have NO signal anywhere. Also SMS/MMS is barely working. (and when it does, people are getting multiples) And its dropping pretty much every single call.
I just called my corp store, they have plenty in stock. I'm going to go exchange it. Should I ask for a new SIM also?
And my screen is perfect, here's hoping I get another good one...

However, AT&T's LTE phones are notorious for connection problems on non-LTE market. These LTE phones use a new APN called pta. I just had the same problem while traveling through PA yesterday. Lost data connections many times and had to reboot the phone at the end of the day to regain data connection of any kind.
So, it is AT&T's service and also the phone firmware that can't properly handle the fact that it can't receive any LTE signal in certain areas.

return it and get another phone, besides the One X, it's all hype anyway. The HTC vivid is a much more solid phone.
I had almost the same issue. My device was on wifi and would at random times just stop pulling data. Or at time just not make calls. I tried trouble shooting it but I was basically told since I didn't have it long I should get it replaced. I replaced it and the new device is perfect. I have not once had that issue again.

Who said I'm going to reture it. OneX, regardless all its problems is still way better than any alternatives AT&T have. There is no such thing as problem free Android phones. I've being many of them. They all have problems one way or another. Vivid with its ancient S3 CPU and SD screen just plain sucked. My SGS2 can kick its butt.
For me the form factor of One X, LTE speed, S4 processor and HD screen are the main things I pick One X over any other phones available on AT&T. These software bugs will be corrected overtime.
I just came back from my store. They had plenty in stock but said when that runs out, they have no idea when they will see anymore.
I have a brand new 1X, and a new SIM card. Hopefully this one works.
I stopped by a vzw store to look at the gnex and my hox side by side. I've decided to keep the HOX. Screen on the gnex was way too bright and I ran quadrant side by side on both phones. The hox blew the gnex out of the water.

Bought mine yesterday and this same issue happened to me today. Had full reception on 4G but could not send a text or place a call. Happened twice today, and I dont know if I want to return it ASAP or if its software related and may be fixed.
I had that problem 3 days after buying the phone. Data, calls, texts..tons of problems. Phone was unusable half the time. I went and exchanged it for another one. I am now at 6 days with the new phone. No problems. I hope it lasts.
Second day owning this device and love it so far, but day two has been rough. I am stuck on 3g. All of a sudden today my lte switched and will not go back. Iv'e rebooted, toggled airplane mode and data. Even pulled the sim. I live in a strong 4g area so that is not the problem. My buddy has a nexus and his is fine. I also have had great reception in areas I have always had problems, so not a reception issue. I called verizon and was told it is a know issue that is normally solved with a reboot. She said an update was scheduled for early September to fix the issue. The point of this thread is to find out if anyone else has had this problem, or found a solution.
Edit: After countless toggling I got it back to 4g, but it won't connect to the network. So my thought is that the sim card is trashed. Going to get a new sim card first thing in the morning.

Unfortunately I am also finding myself stuck in 3g. I have pulled the battery, installed a new ROM. Still working on it, not thrilled. Prior to 4g disappearing, it showed 4g, however I was unable to connect over it. I hope this isn't a hardware issue.

Did this work?
Just FYI, I have the SCH-i535 and am noticing similar behavior. I had a Samsung Droid Charge before the SGS3, and it stayed locked to 4G LTE in the same exact areas of my home. If my Charge did happen to drop 4G, it would always come back. But not with my SCH-i535. Once 4G drops it stays on 3G until I reboot the phone. So far, this is my only complaint about this phone.
It is very random for me. Im certain its a **** sim card. Right now its fine, but at any time it may get stuck on 3g. Also while at work the first couple of days it would hold a decent 3g signal, now its primarily on 1x. Once i replace the sim card I am hopeful for it to be fine.

I thought Verizon said that this was a known issue? I'm just curious as to why you would disagree. But if a new SIM does happen to fix the problem, please let us know.
Just a heads up! I have the same issue, but I can't get 4g back at all, which I thought stemmed from flashing CM9, but this thread is making me wonder now! I spent an hour on the phone with Verizon technical support and they said you will get a popup if the sim is the issue. They told me its the phone and they are sending me a new one. FYI you can try this code. *2767*3855# in the dialer to factory reset the phone ( can do the same in recovery ofcourse), but you HAVE to be running STOCK UNROOTED! Some people have had luck with this "resetting" the radio I guess. If this doesnt work, might as well call them and get a new phone coming. TRUST ME, I believe I did everything I could think of before calling them, except taking the phone apart and pulling a new radio out of my ass!! Lol
I'd just return the phone and get a new one if possible.
They did tell me it was known issue. Its just weird how random it is. I am hopeful it is either the sim card of a software issue. I hope it is not a hardware issue. I would rather not have my phone replaced as I just put a new screen protector on. Also to those getting a replacement, is it brand new or a certified like new device?

I did read in another forum that the replacement phones are coming out with a baseband update. I'm guessing that we will probably need to exchange our phones...or be patient for the OTA. Hopefully it won't be too much longer. Incidentally, I just did a factory reset and 4G now appears to be working. Time will tell...

I also flashed CM9, and I am fairly certain this was the cause of my problems. Nothing I did would make 4G work again.
Other 4G VZW devices seemed to work fine at the same time(I have an ipad3 for work, POS).
I didn't mess with it for a couple of hours while running errands, then all of the sudden it was working again. Been fine ever since as far as I can tell. It would be nice to know what exactly is causing this, but for now I'd caution against messing with cm9 .
Called T-Mobile up, it is a software bug that HTC is actively working on. In the mean time, I have NO 3G/4G. I'm stuck on GSM 2G. :/
They coughed up the data portion of my bill, which was nice. Is there any way to fix it in the meantime?
I get 4G fine!

Flash a custom Rom, get 4g back. At the very least I would root and take a look at the build.prop settings, might be something simple in there. If you'd like, upload your build.prop file so we can check out out

Well... now that I can't downgrade via RUU... :/
Alright, I can't take it anymore. CM10 didn't fix the issue AT ALL. I am stuck on Edge no matter what ROM I'm on.
Here is the thread on T-Mobile's forums about the problem
support.t-mobile.com/thread/33209?tstart=0 (I'm a new user here, can't post links, you'll have to cut and paste)
The problem appears to be specific to certain phones. I tried my SIM card in a demo phone at the T-Mobile store and we updated their phone to the latest version while I was there and it did not have a problem connecting to the 4G network.
I checked the software versions on their phone vs. mine and they all match.
This update contains a new HBOOT and radio update. Because of the HBOOT update, there is no way to roll back to a previous version. I am guessing that the problem is with the radio update since custom roms do not appear to fix the problem. Because of the new HBOOT, there doesn't appear to be a way to downgrade the radio either.
I contacted HTC and they were no help. They told me they were aware of the problem and were working on it, but had no ETA for a fix. T-Mobile told me they were unable to exchange the phone since there is no guarantee the new phone won't have the same problem.
The problem is a hardware issue with the one s.
Turns out a chip is fried affecting your 4g.
Even after installing another Rom, it won't fix your problem.
Happened to me and I got mine replaced.
It's not specific to the 4.0.4 update. It affects non upgraded phones as well.
If your not getting 4g then you got a bad phone.

I was getting 4G fine right before the update. Right after the update, no 4G. Others have had the exact same problem caused by the update. T-Mobile says it is a problem with the update affecting certain handsets. HTC says it is a problem with the update affecting certain handsets.
Are you saying the process of applying the update is frying certain handsets since the problem is only showing up by applying the update?
There is no 4g for the one S because the chipset does not support 4g.
If I helped in any way please hit thanks
I happened to encounter this issue. But my handset was defective because it was brand new and I'm stuck on 2g. I am waiting on a replacement phone. I literally just had it delivered today and it sucks having this problem right out of the box.

That is how mine was. My phone got "4G" (HSPA+) before the update, no luck after the update.
Same problem here with 4. 0.4. Went to CM10 and got 4G again. My MMS doesn't work though
I actually had this happen on the phone I bought directly from my local T-Mobile store last Friday (10/05). I went back in the next day after discovering the thread on the T-Mobile support forums, and they exchanged the phone for me in-store, there on the spot. I have perfectly functioning 4G now, but I'm terrified to run the update for fear of it happening again.
Does any one know if there's any kind of data specifying a certain production run of phones, or anything of that nature?

trmacdonal that is not very nice.
And not really in any way helpful.
According to the most recent post in the T-Mobile support thread, HTC is aware of the issue, has no idea what is causing it, and has no ETA for a fix. Glad I went and got another phone when I did, but I'm fairly miffed that I can't update without fear of turning my smartphone in a, well... phone.
Interesting that this happens only after the 4.0.4 update. I'd like to keep my fast connection; is there a way to keep the phone from downloading and applying the update?
I had a similar issue with my HTC G2 two years ago. HSPA icon appeared, but only one arrow would flash; no connectivity. I could connect to the Internet only using 2G and WiFi. Some devices had the issue, others did not. It lasted for about a month or two, then the issue magically disappeared. Perhaps they rolled updates when the problem occurred and resolved, I'm not sure. If I disabled WiFi on the G2, sometimes the HSPA would connect; there seemed to be an issue switching from WiFi to HSPA. Unfortunately, it sounds like the One S has a slightly different issue. I'll continue to monitor this thread and the one at support.t-mo.
hi
looking to purchase HTC one S. Quite keen on it but a bit concerned with battery life and home screen issue.
However any ideas re its's successor? Is HTC likely to announce another line at MWC 2013? as its only a month away, i am thinking if its worth waiting for to see if the price drops to below £200!

What home screen issue?
I use one and battery life is more than enough for day and half of hard use
Not sure what your referring to in regard to home issue. My battery life improved dramatically with the use of custom roms.
But don't count on a huge price drop just because of a newer phone launch. I have yet to see them do that big of price drops here in Canada on newer launches.

I believe you're referring to the home issue in this thread. It explains various ways to ensure you get a One S without the helicoptering problem. I think it's basically any One S with a serial number starting with >SH24 is okay and won't helicopter, don't take my word on it though.
I got a ceramic black One S from T-mobile on the beginning of last month and haven't had that problem even once.
Does anyone still have the problem of the data (cellular) signal dropping out occasionally, then returning after a couple of minutes? I'm on stock 4.0.3 in Canada on Bell. Hope the coming JB update fixes it.

That sounds much more like a service area problem then a phone problem. I also experienced this issue. I installed a booster at my house. :good:

No, it happens when out too. Goes from 5 bars to an "X" and drops the call or data. Recovers after reboot or on its own after two minutes.

that's not true. I have SH26 (S4) and I had to totally block home button to be able to use phone in 2g areas. I think every ONE S is affected by this, but it depands on your mobile provider signal strength/3g coverage, that's why not all experience this. otherwise HTC would be able to fix phones sent for repair, but they can't - problem always returns.

Toronto, on Bell.
I'm not sure I've heard about a Successor coming yet.
I have no reason to upgrade, love my One S.
I love my One S too
I've got a SH24 too, but I haven't got any problems with the homebuttonbug so far. And I'm very often in areas with bad reception and nothing happens. And with the new frame it looks like new.
I've got the same phone id, but never seen this issue.

I also had problems with cellular data dropping on my One S. I live in finland and this is a common issue with this particular phone and a certain carrier. I have personally seen three One S's with this carrier and they all dropped data after using the connection for a while. Also many others have reported similar issues on a finnish forum.
What makes the problem more interesting is that it only happens in more populated areas (larger cities so maybe more traffic or better and newer networks or something...). Problems are not found from phones or networks and only "fix" seems to be changing carrier. That's what i did and have not had any problems since.
This problematic carrier roams in another carrier's network. Idk if this has something to do with the problem but this carrier is the only consumer carrier that roams here in finland and also the only one with this issue.

I've got an upgrade due. T-Mobile UK have pulled sales of the One S in the past week and are suggesting the 4G One SV in its place. Not exactly a successor though as except for the 4G the SV is a lower spec phone. I was offered the SV for free with a £26 3G contract.

I've got the signal drop issue with 2 One S phones one with Sense ROM the other with AOSP both with newest radio 1.15 and with any other radio but do not have this issue when i put my SIM card into my GNex so it's not a carrier issue and don't think it is a software issue. I know I need help with it it drives me nuts lol

Personally I use a HOS since past september. (SH24... ) I ve been to rural areas with only 2g coverage (till clinging to death of signal ) but never had problems with home button aka helicoptering issue. On the other hand fast dormancy problem sometimes occur although for very short period of time like 30sec-1min.
