I suffer from the wifi problem so I want to install this fix. Is it simply a matter of downloading the RUU, plugging my phone into USB of my computer, and running the exe? Or do I also need to download the HTC windows drivers from the root thread?
Any advice appreciated. I just want to make sure I know what to expect before I do it.
Step by Step Guide (for Windows):
1. Download the latest RUU for ATT One X from here: http://briefmobile.com/download-att-one-x-update-with-wifi-fix
2. Once you download the entire file (550+ MB) you will notice that this is an .EXE file.
3. Click on the file and run the program. it will start the installation wizard
4. Follow the step - as its shows up on the program screen
5. Enjoy your newly updated HTC one x 1.83
6. If you want to re-root the phone go to here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167. this still works even for new update
hope this helps,

enjoying..htc one xl with my s-off and cid-11111111..... any rom ...haha
Strangely, this isn't working. I plug my phone in to USB (it starts charging), I double click the RUU exe, click "Ok" a few times, then it gets to a "Verifying information on your phone window," sits there for a few seconds, and then says "Error[170]: USB Connection Error. The ROM Update Utility cannot connect to your Android phone. Please check that the USB cable isc connected properly between the PC and your Android phone. Check the following: 1. The Android phone is connected to the USB cable. The USB cable is connected to the PC."
The phone is connected to the PC... it is CHARGING. I even tried again with USB debugging mode enabled and it said the same thing. Phone is currently in "Charge only" mode. Do I need to change it to "Disk drive" mode or do something else?
do you have the htc-sync installed?

You need to download HTC Sync. Google it and download directly from HTC Site. Let the driver get install including the software it came with. After you finish installation it will ask you to restart the computer (even if it's not asking just restart) and wait.
Then go back to RUU file you downloaded. Click to execute it and follow the instructions.
I had same issue and doing what I just describe here fix it.

Noob here.....any guesses from pro's as to how long until this will come OTA?
Someone mentioned that att has an ota release planned for May 28th
So, this is only for the At&t, is there any leaked fix for rogers?
Dumb question, but I'm new to android phones. How do you do a complete backup on the One X?
Root then install titanium backup.
I recently got my phone, rooted, things started crapping out and said enough was enough and decided to go back to stock. So I downloaded this RUU and started installing it. It's on the part that says updating the rom image. It has been sitting there for the better part of an hour. Anyone know why by chance? This is HTC One X on AT&T USA just in case someone asks.

I need help! I rooted my new htc inspire and was downloading some of the 3rd party apps I use from market. One of the programs which was a font changer bricked my phone. I have reviewed every possible way to unbrick it and nothing works. When I go into bootloader the only options I have are hboot, which turns to hboot usb plug when plugged to the computer, fast boot, recovery, factory reset, simlock and image crc. Hboot does nothing I installed the hboot drivers and still nothing. I did recovery and it stalls on the HTC bootup screen then slowly blacks out, factory reset it just boots to the htc boot screen and sticks there. I have pulled the battery out more then 50 times, that doesnt work. Htc sync does not recognize that the phone is connected to the computer and the revoke hboot usb installer sees that the android is hooked up to the computer but doesnt do anything except tell me the drivers are installed. I used Bubby's one click root to root my phone. Can anyone help? This is the second phone I bricked and considering I just bought this I really dont have the money to buy another phone. Any help would be awesome!!!!
Have you tried an ODIN yet? Find the stock image for your phone (should be a tar), use odin, and flash it. Make sure you have the correct USB drivers for your phone installed.
In fact, look at this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11419005&postcount=2
Ive wanted to try it but was a little weary about doing it cause I though ODIN was for capitvate phones and because the ruu is from cingular and im on AT&T. Also wonder how to do it when I can not set my phone to debug or disk drive.
remove battery and keep it outside for 12 hr. then put it back and restart...
Done that already last night after it bricked. It still does the same thing. Im downloading the ruu the sync doesnt acknowledge my phone at all and the drivers on my phone are right and up to date. Except how do I put the ruu on my phone if my phone does not bootup and if I go into the bootloader screen it takes me right to the htc boot screen and doesnt go farther. Im following all the steps that have been posted in other threads but it doesnt help when I already tried majority of these things. I dont know if there is any other option to unbrick my phone if this does not work!
Ok the RUU says it can not read my phone. I get an error saying USB connection error and says to check if the phone is connected to the usb cable and the cable is connected to the pc. All of which it is. So what do I do next as the ruu cant even read my phone?

Me 2 today!!!
I posted this before but didn't get much response and I still have this problem. I rooted my phone using the 1.85 method, and am currently rooted, but not unlocked. I've tried to unlock the bootloader, but since device manager does not detect the device I can't unlock it. The phone charges when connected to the PC (IO panel, not front), but the connection type does not appear in the notification pull-down, and device manager does not display the device. This wasn't true before rooting, and now that my PC can't detect the phone I can't unlock and I can't copy over files from my PC to my phone. I have current drivers successfully installed, and I haven't updated any software beyond stock on my phone (1.85, 4.0.3), though AT&T has tried to push an update on my phone this morning.
How can I solve my problem? This is my first Android phone, and I wanted to unlock the bootloader to be able to flash ROMs and develop my own, but at the moment it isn't possible.

Yes, USB debugging is on. I tried adb using this guide (http :// www . thesuperusersguide . com/adb-backup--restore.html sorry can't post links), but once I paste in “adb backup –apk –shared –all –f /backup/mybackup.ab," I get back adb: unable to connect for backup."

In 1.85, there was the option to default your connection type. It may be set to charge only. Check your settings. This may be the issue.

As it seems the USB port I was using wasn't connected properly to the motherboard, so I had to do some tinkering there. It all worked out though*, thanks for the help.
*Except that I accidentally installed the OTA update instead of postponing it and removing notifications... Now begins the wait for a 2.23 root method. Woe is me.
recently bought an unlocked one X it was running the software number 1.85 and i was able to connect it to the pc to move my files to it ,
recently i got the ota update (2.20) and after quite a bit of research decided to let it update.
even after the update the usb feature worked, and now it doesnot work at all it only chages i have tried
holding the power button for 10 secs with phone connected to the lap, desktop, (when i did this the first time it the chhosing menu that appears on the phone showed up but the pc didnt recognise the phone)
tried different wires
checked coonect to pc settings ( set to always ask, disk drive)
installed latest drivers and htc sync
tried factory resets
unab;e to do hard reset for some reason (android logo doesnt show up) only the three lights keep blinking and go off
the phone is fully stock and has never been rooted or flashed
all advice is much apreciated!
If the phone shows up in devices manager u could probly run a ruu and see if that fixes it there's guides in the dev thread if that doesnt see the phone then I'm not sure what to tell you?

Hello,
I was reading a thread on someone who had the exact same issue, but no solution was ever posted.
Here's the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458066
Background - this is a friends HTC Inspire, no rooting or anything was attempted, factory untouched phone bought new from AT&T.
Turns on, eventually goes to a 2 green arrows in a circle around a phone and then to a red triangle with red exclamation point over a black phone. I can hold the volume up and power to reset or wipe cache, neither does anything. Comes back to the same screen. says:
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command
-- Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
E:Can't open /data/cwpkg.zip
E:Can't open /data/cw.prop
E:Can't open /cache/cwpkg.zip
E:Can't open /cache/cw.prop
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe complete
Doing a boot holding volume down and power shows this info:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.10.04.03_M
eMMC-boot

HBOOT
I tried formatting the sd card and using recovery and stock rom to load, nothing worked, as if not recognized. The sd card had data on it(which was accessible), which I transfered to the computer before formatting.
Any ideas? I have never used an android device but I've been reading through this forum and others for hours now... phone is outside of warranty now too, so that's no longer an option. Thanks in advance.
Devin
It failed during the update to the current rom version or was reset/lost power during update. Use a pc to download the most recent ruu update for the inspire from HTC. Then download and install htc sync on pc. Place phone into fastboot mode with sd card inserted and then plug into pc. Run ruu from pc. Data will be lost but phone will be usable.

So Gizmoe, I am in the same boat as original poster. I downloaded the correct ruu from HTC , but PC won't recognize phone. Point of clarification
When you say "place phone into fast boot mode" does that mean just connect to PC at that point or do I shut phone down and then connect. I've been going bonkers since ATT pushed software update and bricked the phone.
Thanks for any advice.

Ok, we'll I got it into fast boot USB mode, plugged in USB to PC, ran exe ruu file (which takes forever btw) and then got connection error. Ruu application then exits. Must be something hosed up in the phone with drivers. Bummer
I just checked Windows devices and it is showing as a "Device failed enumeration" error. Trying to troubleshoot that but have my doubts right now. I did notice that when I connected it earlier today PC saw it as G drive for a split second and then it dropped.

Do you have HTC sync installed and running?
Hi Gizmoe. Well I have HTC Sync but I didn't think I needed to have that running. I just ran the ruu exe file, but got connection error. I just tried HTC Sync with phone in fastboot usb mode but HTC Sync can't see it. Version of HTC Sync is 3.3.63. The other thing I noticed is that if phone is off and plugged into PC it is recognized as a removable device with a G: drive letter in device manager, but doesn't show up in file explorer and running exe or HTC Sync still can't see it.
If it's connected when it's in fastboot usb mode then windows says "last device connected malfunctioned " and PC doesn't see it.
I'm in this catch 22. Tried to do recovery process to install a ruu off sdcard which errors out, and can't install ruu from pc since phone usb connection not recognized.

UPDATE: I decided to just try the recovery method again while the phone was plugged into USB cable just to charge it. Well it downloaded the latest HTC version of the ROM and it installed....YEAH, BUT phone thinks it's a Desire , not an Inspire and the IMEI MMEI etc. info is missing. No connectivity to mobile network. And I don't have keyboard function either. Sooo, I think I will try another ruu and see if that works starting from scratch. I guess I'm still missing some files or steps in this process. I used to be in the PC business and thought they could be convoluted, but cellphones take the cake.

Yes they do. Just an fyi the desire and inspire are exactly the same device and HTC left the inspire name out of the build prop. It will say it's a desire HD, so that's normal. The rest isn't though. Yeah I would try the ruu again. Just make sure HTC sync is installed and running. You can run it from the phones os too.

Gizmoe, thought I'd give you the latest update: I was able to finally get the PC (Win8) to recognize the phone by installing HTC Sync 3.3.63, installing Win7 64bit drivers.
Then I downloaded RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_Cingular_US_3.20.502.63_Radio_12.69c.60.29U_26.09.13.17_M_release_335423_signed from HTC site. This is an exec file.
Got phone into USB debugging mode, fastboot off , charge only, and ran the above RUU. Seemed to be working as it asked if I wanted to update etc. and warned about losing data. Said ok and RUU exec then popped up status window saying "Waiting for bootloader......................"
This ran for a few minutes and then Windows popped up message saying last USB device connected failed. Then RUU exec finally popped up and said Connection Error 171. No choice but to exit program. This has happened twice. Very annoying. Took forever to get PC to recognize phone and now I'm still stuck with a brick thanks to ATT.
Any thoughts ?

UPDATE:
SUCCESS !! :good: Well it only took a boatload of patience and a 7 yr. old laptop running XP to get the phone re-imaged. Process was sloooow (about 30 minutes) but all drivers loaded and the stock ROM from HTC installed fine. Phone is now back to operational. Turns out I didn't lose contacts since they were apparently backed up in Google account. (YEAH) Now I just have to manually install 4 more small security patches from HTC. Their website isn't too clear as to how to do this but I'll muddle thru it.
Thanks Gizmoe for your help and suggestions. You are right I would definitely recommend that anyone trying to root, recover or re-image from scratch an Android from a PC to avoid Win8 at this time and stick with Win7 or XP.
Help me please!

A PD98IMG is a way to install various things but requires an s off device. It is not a method to acheive s off. What exactly is the problem you are having? Are you not able to boot your device? If you are still stock, run the current RUU from HTC through fastboot as explained in previous posts in this thread.
HTC bootloader problem
Gizmoe, I am joining this group, I have the same problem, followed all steps. my problem is that RUU during the process sends msg to phone to reboot and start Bootloader my phone reboots and stays with white screen / green HTC logo (freezes?) RUU after waiting for Bootloader returns error 171 connection problem. My guess is that bootloader is not starting and RUU times out and thinks that it is connection problem.
Uninstalled sync and reinstalled latest version, deleted and re downloaded latest RUU. System recognizes phone ( device manager shows HTC). Any suggestions? Thanks.

Yeah there seems to be a communication issue. Try putting phone into fastboot. Make sure phone reads fastboot usb. Then run RUU. There may be programs in pc as well blocking it. See if you can send fadtboot commands if the aforementioned method doesn't work. If that's how you already tried running it then run it from booted phone.
UNROOT METHOD FOR AT&T LG G3
So you messed around with your G3 too much and broke something... or do you need to return it or send it in for service. In either case, you may need to un-root and restore the phone to factory settings.
Follow the instructions below to get your phone back to stock.
How to un-root the LG G3 on AT&T
1. Download all four files
Driver
LG Flash Tool
.DLL
.TOT
Mirror of above files - Thanks to clsA
***If anyone is interested in mirroring the above files... please do so and post the links and I will update the OP***
2. Install LG United mobile driver
3. Install LG FlashTool using instructions in zip folder
4. Unzip LG850AT-V10d.zip and LGD850_20140613_LGFLASHv160_DLL.zip in to a new folder
5. Turn of your phone
6. Using a USB 2.0 Port, plug one end in to PC
7. Hold the Volume Up key and plug USB cable in to phone - this will put your phone in to download mode.
8. Open Device manager and scroll down to Ports
9. Click on Ports and right click LGE Mobile USB Serial Port
10. Select properties - go to Port Settings Tab and click on Advanced
11. Change COM Port to COM41 - Click OK and Close device manager
12. Go to LG Flash tool and run as administrator
13. Select Manual Mode and browse to the folder you extracted the files to and select the .dll and .tot you downloaded
and unzipped in item 4 and place in corresponding box. dll in dll box and .tot in S/W box
14. Click OK
15. Click Yellow arrow to begin
16. When the Port 1 (COM41) box is ready, unplug USB cable from phone, wait 5 seconds and plug cable back in to phone.
17. The process will take up to 45 Min (Mine took 2594 sec)
18. When you see a large 3 on the screen - unplug phone, pull battery and reboot
At this point your phone is un-rooted and restored to factory settings.
19. Once you reboot - go to settings, backup and restore, and hit reset to perform a factory reset. (Optional)
20. Download root checker and run to confirm you no longer have root (Optional)

WARNINGS & DISCLAIMERS
Proceed with caution and at your own risk - I am not responsible if your phone self destructs, gets bricked, or melts.
Please keep in mind that both these methods will yield ROOT only - as of know there is no way to unlock bootloader on AT&T
Rooting and any other modifications to your phone will void your warranty - do not root if you do not know what you are doing.
Rooted devices will not be able to receive OTA updates. You may have to unroot and restore stock in order to accept updates.
FAQ:
Q. Will this reset my root counter in the hidden settings menu?
A. Based On my experience - YES - After restoring using this method the root counter showed NO ROOT and the Root Checker app from the market also showed Not Rooted.
Q. When I tried to follow the above method I get a "Can't change to download mode" error referencing "Error 00000064"
A. I experienced this several times when attempting to un-root using a USB 3.0 port. Connect the phone using a USB 2.0 port preferably connected directly to the computer - and make sure the phone is already in download mode. Occasional you may need to unplug the USB cable from your phone for a couple of seconds and reconnect to get the process started.
Reserved 2
Don't need it now and hopefully won't, but if I do this is where I'm headed. Thanks man.
Had to do this for a boot loop I induced trying to remove CarrierIQ. I was following the thread from the general section which has all this information but spread out through the thread. Very simple. Nice to have all the links to the ATT specific stuff so thanks for posting this thread. Would have saved me 40+ minutes of searching around.
I followed the guide but every time I am at Step 15, process fails with message "Can't change to download mode" 00000064. I am still able to get to download mode and do the steps again and again but it doesn't get past this same error message and fails.
I did a factory reset before running the flasher tool. After a couple of failed attempts, I enabled "usb debugging" thinking that might have to do something with the reset process. Still no go ...
Any suggestions? or solutions? Thanks.
Having this same issue. Driving me crazy >.<

USB 2.0 with OEM cable and Windows 8 machine. So no USB 3.0 here. I am trying to arrange a windows 7 machine. I read somewhere around here that LG drivers don't play well with Windows 8/8.1 so thought its worth a try.

Followed this sequence too. Still same. Can't change to download mode. This time around it didn't show "00000064". But hey thanks for suggestion. :good:
Finally I was able to get a computer running windows 7. I setup the machine with fresh download and installation of drivers and tools. Reset process went through without a hitch. It took 277 sec for the entire flash process to complete. I verified the root counter in LG RCT menu and its says "Not Rooted" now. All traces of root gone. Time to box it up and send it to the new owner

Absolutely. Followed the steps in OP and got a nice looking G3 all reset to factory specs. Thanks.
Anyone have the files to do this on the Verizon version?

Question about drivers. I installed LG pc suite on my computer. Will the drivers that come with it work with this, it should I uninstall and reinstall the drivers from the op?

Although it may, I recommend using the unified drivers.. Those have adb drivers built in.
