HTC Sensation vs Sensation XL - General Questions and Answers

I used to have the sensation and now the sensation XL is out, is it worth the change ?

not worth change xl

No. The XL has last generation specs. Poorer screen, slower CPU, gpu.

XL is for guys with style
Kidding of course, everyone has another taste. But it takes a lot of ba**s to buy this phone with poor specs
If you like heavy gaming and multitasking wich are not problem for the XL right now you should change it.

4.7" screen. thats about it.

Depends on your needs
The sensation has a dual core processor and a lot of Dev support whereas the xl has a large screen with a less powerful single core processor......so if multimedia is what you want its xl and if you want a phone with good multitasking capacity sensation

sensation

Why to get a Sensation?

Ok, as a current Desire user I'm getting more and more tempted to switch to a Sensation (and seeing as a lot of Desire devs are jumping ship to other devices).
Anyone care to give me some reasons for making the switch? I've had my trusty Desire for over 18 months but I'm getting itchy fingers to get something new? So...
Why get a Sensation?
Thanks.
I think that's a question for you to answer. Do you see any features in the Sensation that you want that are not available in the Desire?
If yes, are these features important enough for you to decide to switch phones?
If yes, switch. If no, don't.
Sensation is a good phone, but every phone has its quirks and every opinion is relative. Take all biased reviews and suggestions with several grains of salt. Good luck!

Desire has 768mb ram right? Frankly I don't see much benefit in upgrading. The ram makes more of a difference than the dual cores IMHO.

My glacier with the same amount of ram and oc to 1.3 runs faster than my sensation.

Because it looks great. Really. With a Casemate Tough case (which are fantastic) it feels really sturdy.
I would wait until the nexus comes out before deciding, that way you won't be kick yourself later when u realize u like it better than the Sensation.
The reason I love the Sensation is because of the resolution and speed. And it works the way I want it to.

nope. Desire has 576mb
the newer htc models have 768mb.
I would upgrade, especially as you can get a Sensation XE (newer + better) with a contract for a total of:

heck of a deal, i'd say

I had the desire before I recently upgraded to the sensation. I've had the sensation for 6 weeks now.
Reasons to upgrade:
Larger screen 4.3 inches
Dual core processor
768mb of ram
1gb of app memory
Sense 3.0 interface
8 megapixel camera with dual led flash
1080p video recording
Noise canceling mic for phone calls
Up to 14.4 Mbps download speeds
Front facing camera for video calls

In my opinion, yes.
My Vibrant always ran slower than my glacier, even when both have identical cm7 setups and oc. Ram was the missing link.
My glacier with oc runs better than sensation without, even though the glacier is only a single core.
Both glacier and sensation have 768mb ram.

I upgraded to sensation because the physical buttons on my desire started to get loose and weren't responsive. Very happy with it so far, mostly notice the much bigger screen (like a pocket tablet) and sense 3.0. Build quality is very sturdy and design is beautiful/minimal, exactly what I was looking for. I would highly recommend it if you have the cash.

Totally agree but I guess at least it has some sort of front camera.
wait.
my advice is to wait if you can. The Sensation is limited. Its good for now, but with Ice cream sandwich coming soon HTC is going to put the Sensation and the Amaze in its rear view (if you are a T-mo customer). I was going to get the Amaze in march, but what is the point? Even the XE is a gimmick.
You don't want to wait for HTC to hand out the ICS upgrades either. Besides, the industry standard 1 gig RAM is not in the sensation and the internal storage is poor. There will be a phone that is up to par (with ICS) from HTC by April.

2012 year of the quad cores

So I wanted to upgrade to a new phone like the amaze but it makes sense to wait two more or 3 months for the quad core processor phones right guys? Let's hear some feeback and what are you gonna do? Wait it out too??
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Yea, I agree. I get bored easily, this is the first phone I've kept for this long (about a year). At first, I was looking at a gradual upgrade, something like a sensation or a g2x... Then I figured if I'm gonna spend $$, might as well just do it for the long haul & look into an amaze, galaxy s2 or even wait for a galaxy nexus... After all is said & done, I'm still using my glacier & will continue to do so. We've got an awesome dev section & something better will always be just ahead of the curve, but I'm definitely waiting for 2012...

The Ville is the 4.3" ICS phone right? That sounds so much nicer size-wise than the massive Galaxy Nexus. Should come out more compact than the Amaze or Sensation due to the removal of buttons.
However the render appears to have a screen aspect ratio of 1.64 or so, which is closer to the 5x3 of an 800x480 display than the 16x9 (1.777) of a qHD display. So the render is misshapen.

Yes the ville is the 4.3" screen one. Same screen as the RAZR i believe. Its gonna be nice because the 28nm processor allows for it to be really thin. So it shouldn't be much heavier than the MT4G.

it will come with 1.5GH snapdragon s4 processor and here's the full specification of it. A 4.3-inch qHD (960×540) Super AMOLED display; a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor; 8MP camera on the back with 1080p HD video capture; a 1,650mAh battery; HSPA+-connectivity; and Beats Audio Technology. The handset will apparently measure in at only 8mm thick, will launch with Android 4.0, and will also launch HTC’s Sense 4.0 overlay.

If you are waiting for the greatest smartphone you will be waiting forever, there is always going to be a rumor about a supposed OMG smartphone RIGHT before you was about to purchase the smartphone you thought was awesome. In my opinion, to have a really satisfying smartphone experience there needs to be great utilization of software and hardware. Software is something that has always been a bit of a hindered on devices with custom skins (most of the Android ecosystem). The only ways to really circumvent this is to either buy a Nexus devices or root your device in HOPES of finding a solid ROM to flash. I think this makes the decision quite easy, buy the Galaxy Nexus.

[Q] HTC sensation vs HTC one s

guys i have the option to get a new phone and im looking to get either the sensation for free or the one s. i just dont know if the one s is really worth the upgrade it or should i just stick with the sensation thats free till a better htc phone comes out?
im worried about development for the htc one s cause the sensation has a lot of support in this forum and a lot of roms and im scared the one s isnt gonna get as big as the sensation.. what are your takes?
thank you
I personally don't see any upside to the One S honestly. No storage extension, a non-removable battery, not a quad core. If you're looking for sense 4 the sensation has some stable and fast ported roms from the HTC One S.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
thank you man thats what i was thinking as well. i just dont know how stable the sense 4 for sensation is but ill look into it.
I just tried CoinDroid as my first Sense 4 ROM today - so far so good! No stability issues at all, and the camera's burst shots is DAMNED FAST.

Both are still qHD. Amoled or not is simply a matter of personal preference.
The One S not having quad core is in fact better. (S4 > T3) Pretty much the only thing that appeals to me is the S4 in the One S.

One S has much better camera if that is important to you. I mean the actual sensor itself. Great in low light situations. However you're stuck with about 10 gig of user space and that can be kind of crippling with no external sd card. With the Sensation I have a 32 gig sd card which is great but I wish my camera sensor was better. Especially in low light.
HTC really likes to stick us between a rock and a hard place sometimes!

You guys do realize that this thread is almost a year old, right?

Sensation successor.

First off I'd like to say that the sensation is probably the best choice I've ever made for a phone just because of the amount of development that is still happening to this day. And as much as I love this phone. Technology is moving too fast and I'm going to need an upgrade soon. What are some suggestions u guys could give me on making a decision for a phone with as much developmental success as the sensation.

Hi,
I better ask you why you think an upgrade is needed. If you're bored from your current Sensation, then it's fine, but IMO there is no real need to upgrade to any current devices which allows you to do much more than your actual device. Even you can install Sense 4.0 custom roms if you like how One X and S look and feel.
On day to day usage I think there is no much difference from having 2 or 4 cores running on current Android version. If you like so much the new camera features on new HTC One devices, then it may be worth to upgrade now.
I will change my Sensation when new devices with Android 5.0 start to sell.
Only my 2 cents
I will skip this generation of new phones. I will wait for next year for full hd screens and all cool new stuff. I find the upgrade from the sensation to the X is not that huge.

Same complaint here, however, I recently installed a ROM that comes with xLoud which is a Mod and to be honest it has made my sensation gain at least, 30% more volume.
I usually don't believe in gimmicky Mods such as Bravia engine and such because they usually just don't make any difference but I can assure that xLoud is definitely working for me. You can also flash this mod found at the theme section individually.

I can't think of any particular reason why 1080p would be impossible. I think it would certainly be possible, if not a complete waste. All the icons and other display items would have to be resized to not be so tiny on a phone screen, even a 5" screen. 720p already looks amazing even on the largest screens available right now. And even qHD is amazing on 4.3" devices, so 720p will be awesome for quite a while.
Overall though, I have to agree that it doesn't seem like anything this year is worth upgrading from the Sensation. Especially if you have it running at its proper 1.5 GHz processor speed and ICS. Unless you absolutely must have something like NFC or a quad core (nearly useless, as stated earlier). Next year should hopefully show off some new things worth going after though.
If you must upgrade soon though, I have to agree that the HTC One S or the Galaxy S3 will be your best choices. Unless HTC is secretly working on something amazing in the next few months, I don't see any other options worth upgrading to.

Toshiba showed off a 6.1" screen with a res of 2560 x 1600 (498 ppi) a couple months ago.
Ortustech showed off a 4.8" 1920 x 1080 (448 ppi) about 7-8 months ago.
While at those high ppi figures, eyes can't discern individual pixels - you would be able to tell an overall difference.

I wouldn't be so sure. The MSM8260A (MSM8960 without LTE - used in One S) has the 42 Mbps radio integrated, and it would do wonders for battery life. I wouldn't be surprised if T-Mobile opted to use that SoC in their SIII.

What do you think about the sensation?

Hi all, I think the htc sensation have much time to be at the top or at least in the top half of Android devices. Having a good dual core processor at 1.2 gigahertz with a good GPU Adreno 220 make it one of the best middle-fa terminals. Even if we look we can see how ferrules brand like Sony xperia s use the same GPU and even the htc One s3 s has its version with the same processor. I think the sensation is at the height of xperia S, htc one s, galaxy s2, galaxy foolish, Optimus 3D ... etc. what do you think? a hug
In terms of power lg's optimus 3d destroys our sensation. I'd say we have the best unofficial support though the s2 is probably more popular, followed by the xperia s. HTC didn't do a very good job on this phone, which is why they released the HTC amaze soon after to correct their mistakes.

I think my sensation xe was good, fast, and reliable with the original Rom it came with ,as soon as I updated to ics it became slow unresponsive , what Anoys me much is when you press menu and select settings ,the setting option remain highlighted for 2 seconds than you'll get setting menu ,where in gingerbread its instant ,for me gingerbrad was way faster than ics ,it still is .I downgraded to gingerbread ,I think HTC are amateurs when they update their phones not pros at all ,don't know how they manage to make a dual core phone with 750mb ram run slow..... On ics
I really love my Sensation XE... but only with custom ROM
Stock battery life is really great for me: about 20 hours with 1:30 hours screen on. I'm also satisfied about CPU performances.

Phones update all the time. I remember when the GS2 just came out. Now we have S4. The point is, if you have a good phone, keep that good phone til it dies. Or, keep things fresh, flash new Roms and have it live forever.
