guys i have the option to get a new phone and im looking to get either the sensation for free or the one s. i just dont know if the one s is really worth the upgrade it or should i just stick with the sensation thats free till a better htc phone comes out?
im worried about development for the htc one s cause the sensation has a lot of support in this forum and a lot of roms and im scared the one s isnt gonna get as big as the sensation.. what are your takes?
thank you
I personally don't see any upside to the One S honestly. No storage extension, a non-removable battery, not a quad core. If you're looking for sense 4 the sensation has some stable and fast ported roms from the HTC One S.

thank you man thats what i was thinking as well. i just dont know how stable the sense 4 for sensation is but ill look into it.
I just tried CoinDroid as my first Sense 4 ROM today - so far so good! No stability issues at all, and the camera's burst shots is DAMNED FAST.
But isn't the one s super amoled?

Both are still qHD. Amoled or not is simply a matter of personal preference.
The One S not having quad core is in fact better. (S4 > T3) Pretty much the only thing that appeals to me is the S4 in the One S.

Well what are the disadvantages of qhd super amoled? It's just so eye popping, you can't see your reflection on the screen when in use, better in light, less power consumption, larger optimum viewing angle, what isn't there to love about super amoled?

i currently have both the sensation and htc one s
and i have to say that HTC ONE S IS FRUSTRATING when trying to root , backup, restore or anything
the sensation was so good to me.
but the htc one s is faster than the sensation.
there is one bug with the htc one s when rooting and flashing to a diff rom is that wifi doesnt work. and i need my wifi.
if u r thinking on upgrading dont go for the htc one. SUCKS honestly.
stick to the sensation!

One S has much better camera if that is important to you. I mean the actual sensor itself. Great in low light situations. However you're stuck with about 10 gig of user space and that can be kind of crippling with no external sd card. With the Sensation I have a 32 gig sd card which is great but I wish my camera sensor was better. Especially in low light.
HTC really likes to stick us between a rock and a hard place sometimes!

Although the SGS2 is a fantastic device, it's not all that much better than the Sensation. The only real selling points it has over the Sensation is the SAMOLED+ display tech, the onboard storage, and the Exynos CPU. It's also thinner and lighter. The Sensation though, has a higher density screen so even though it's LCD, it's nicer to look at (IMO). The size/weight issue is a personal thing - I had the original SGS and thought it felt too cheap and light to be such expensive device. To me, the extra heft of the Sensation makes it feel a nicer device, but whatever.
If you were upgrading from an older device, it'd be a tough choice as it is. If I were you though, I'd stay with the Sensation because you just won't notice $530 (or even $250) worth of difference
EDIT: as a side note, I did upgrade to the Sensation from a similar device - the LG Optimus 2X. I had multiple issues with that device though, and the Sensation feels like a dream in comparison.
I've just had the SGS2 and got rid of it for the Sensation. I don't regret it. What I will say is this : whichever one you have you will want the other!! But I can tell you that the Sensation is worth keeping. Find a rom that you like and personalise & tweak it. Personally, I'm using xl DI GIT AL lx "digitalized" ics themed rom. Very quick.
The phone is more of a premium handset in other's eyes as well.

This person is right.
Why anyone would get a device that's about to get outdated really, really soon makes no sense to me.
Id stick with the Sensation as well. Once it has ICS, it will be on the same level as the Prime anyways. Not as good, but on the same level.
Matt
I was waiting for the SGS2 to come out as well but now that it is out I actually don't think it is any better than the Sensation. I went to tmobile store to try it out and found that my Sensation feels better because of Sense. The SGS2 was not thinner than the Sensation imo. it feels bulkier in my pocket. I'm glad i went with the sensation instead of waiting forever for the SGS2
I'd stick with the Sensation and just load ICS when it get's released.
why bother with the SGSII at this point? especially considering Tmous version uses the same Snapdragon processor?
if you really feel the need to upgrade just wait out a few more months for the newer phones in the pipeline... at the very least until Nov. for the Nexus.

I would definitely go with the SGSII... Well I did, it's the better phone hands down. Longer battery life, not laggy like sensation as far as stock goes, it's been out two weeks and it's already rooted ( like a week ago) it already has a couple of ROMs and the super AMOLED plus display is stunning. Personally I like having a light device, it may be plastic but I'm sure it has better chances of surviving a drop than the sensation. Now on the other hand the sensation has a great resolution, very sharp and lots of ROMs and devs behind it so if you're into ROMs and customizing and all that than it should be good too. But comparing both phone stock, no contest, the SGSII is the better phone.
people should stop comparing SGS2 stock with Sensation stock!
Sense ROMs will always be slower then stock Android.
Main point of HTC phones are Sense. If you dislike Sense then SGS2 is the way to go.
I would also stich with sensation
Go to a shop and take a SGS2 and turn it on. Take your sensation and turn it on. Place the two displays in front of you.
At this point you will just have noticed the low res of the sgs2 and the blueish display of the samsung, and you will turn it off and return to the shelf.
Problem solved.

actually i just made the switch from the Amaze to the Sensation, overall i love the sensation way more, the amaze has some minor hardware issues...
capacitive button bleed effect, camera flash bleed effect with dark pics, no s-off yet which means there is hardly any major development
i traded the amaze for a sensation plus $150 so it was not just for the above issues but also for the money, yes the amaze does look and feel better, but hardware specs are negligible due to rom tweaks and hardware acceleration
the only thing i miss with the amaze honestly is the battery life, and that's about it... lol
Girlfriend has an amaze, I have the sensation. Hands down I would go with the sensation.
Other than the camera the sensation is better in almost every way. Also there is no s-off on the amaze. You have to use HTC dev and kernels and radios are a pain to flash. Development is slow with the amaze also. Xboarder isnt there anymore and he was the driving force behind the amaze.
If the amaze was s-off and had some development it would be slightly better.

Is it just me or is the sensation very similar to the htc one s minus the adreno 225 where as the sensation has adreno 220?

The screen of the HTC One s is better than the screen of the HTC Sensation.
I prefer having removable batteries, and removable SD storage.
In day to day usage, the Sensation offers me exactly what I need as it is already quite powerful. I don't game either.
Sure the One S is a better phone, but not really worth the upgrade IMO. I'll keep waiting, maybe might get the next Google Flagship phone at the earliest. (And that is a big might.)
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
they are definately similar but the one s would be better of course i like to think of it as an upgrade to the sensation, 4g, xe, amaze 4g, and rezound which if you look at it they are all very similar in design or specs it is like part 6 of the sensation saga the design is very similar on the one s and sensation just more polished i think so if you combine the amaze+sensation+rezound+new cpu+different screen (not saying better since i like lcd compared to amoled screen)= one s

That's exactly my opinion.
Plus - it has enough power for games.
Plus 64GB sdcard capabilities - and that might not be the maximum - no windy cloud storage and roaming plan for data access necessary.
No One really beats the Sensation
to me, its a load of crap!
same pixel density just super amoled for more vibrant colours
upd the ram by 200mb
camera isnt better, the camera app is, which doesnt mean it cant be ported
processor is better but, tbh, sensation is still a beast at gaming and will be until the next flagship for google comes out
If I had the money I'd upgrade..
To me it is just a perfected sensation - more ram, more unified body, faster, better screen, better camera...
Not sure why they chose to have no SD or removable battery, but guessing there are advantages otherwise HTC wouldn't have done it.

I think it has a new image processing chip too, not just the new software - so a port wouldn't give the sendation the same camera quality as the one s.

No but the Sense 4 camera app does run 99% effective on the Sensation. It's even graphically accelerated so menus and whatnot are easy to use while in the camera instead of sluggish like Sense 3.6
I just picked up the one s today and I had the sensation. The one s is a beast the camera is amazing. And honestly the pentile screen doesn't bother me I can't even tell unless my face is like an inch away from the screen bit who uses their phone like that. And its so Much faster the devs here have done a great job with the sense 4 port but is not even close to the speed of the one s. It really is a night and day difference. And as far as storage I just use google play music and it stores all my songs without taking up space. I did love the development for the sensation but this one s is a beast.it really feels like a premium phone with the aluminum body

HTC did it for quality control. That's why Apple does it. Thats why any of them do it. Makes it easier to troubleshoot an issue if you can rule out another manufacturers SD card or after market battery causing problems.
A jacked SD card or crappy after market battery leads to more warranty repairs for them.
Hopefully there will be bigger storage and more external battery cases for new Android devices if the trend continues, which I think is an absolute certainty.
Good for them, sucks for most of us who want the option.

I went to T-moble today to upgrade from my sensation to the one s, but NOPE. The pentil display was way to obvious for me. I love my display in the sensation. I could clearly see the pixles/blocks without trying. Now I have perfect 20/20 vision. It was just too obvious for me.
Now I knew about and was looking for it. IF I did nto know I might have missed it in the showroom floor, but after playing with it at home for some time it would have become very obvious. Once you see the pixles they dont go away. This was a major turn off for me.
The lack of SD no big deal at all for me. But the non removeable battery AND pentile display, I'll wait for a T-moble version of the One X or the next HTC product.

First off I'd like to say that the sensation is probably the best choice I've ever made for a phone just because of the amount of development that is still happening to this day. Hi,
I better ask you why you think an upgrade is needed. If you're bored from your current Sensation, then it's fine, but IMO there is no real need to upgrade to any current devices which allows you to do much more than your actual device. Even you can install Sense 4.0 custom roms if you like how One X and S look and feel.
On day to day usage I think there is no much difference from having 2 or 4 cores running on current Android version. If you like so much the new camera features on new HTC One devices, then it may be worth to upgrade now.
I will change my Sensation when new devices with Android 5.0 start to sell.
Only my 2 cents
I will skip this generation of new phones. I will wait for next year for full hd screens and all cool new stuff. I find the upgrade from the sensation to the X is not that huge.

Same complaint here, however, I recently installed a ROM that comes with xLoud which is a Mod and to be honest it has made my sensation gain at least, 30% more volume.

I can't think of any particular reason why 1080p would be impossible. I think it would certainly be possible, if not a complete waste. All the icons and other display items would have to be resized to not be so tiny on a phone screen, even a 5" screen. 720p already looks amazing even on the largest screens available right now. And even qHD is amazing on 4.3" devices, so 720p will be awesome for quite a while.
Overall though, I have to agree that it doesn't seem like anything this year is worth upgrading from the Sensation. Especially if you have it running at its proper 1.5 GHz processor speed and ICS. Unless you absolutely must have something like NFC or a quad core (nearly useless, as stated earlier). Next year should hopefully show off some new things worth going after though.
If you must upgrade soon though, I have to agree that the HTC One S or the Galaxy S3 will be your best choices. Unless HTC is secretly working on something amazing in the next few months, I don't see any other options worth upgrading to.

Ortustech showed off a 4.8" 1920 x 1080 (448 ppi) about 7-8 months ago.
While at those high ppi figures, eyes can't discern individual pixels - you would be able to tell an overall difference.

I wouldn't be so sure. The MSM8260A (MSM8960 without LTE - used in One S) has the 42 Mbps radio integrated, and it would do wonders for battery life. I wouldn't be surprised if T-Mobile opted to use that SoC in their SIII.
