Sensation successor. - HTC Sensation

First off I'd like to say that the sensation is probably the best choice I've ever made for a phone just because of the amount of development that is still happening to this day. And as much as I love this phone. Technology is moving too fast and I'm going to need an upgrade soon. What are some suggestions u guys could give me on making a decision for a phone with as much developmental success as the sensation.
Sent From My HTC Sensation 4G

Considering that the SGS3 has already 9 million pre-orders, it is safe to assume that will have a bunch of development.
Also first hint of SGS3 on TMO USA suggest that we will be getting he one with the Exynos processor
This will be my next device on TMO USA.

If you want to stay on 4.3 inch, go One S. Want to go bigger? One X.

Hi,
I better ask you why you think an upgrade is needed. If you're bored from your current Sensation, then it's fine, but IMO there is no real need to upgrade to any current devices which allows you to do much more than your actual device. Even you can install Sense 4.0 custom roms if you like how One X and S look and feel.
On day to day usage I think there is no much difference from having 2 or 4 cores running on current Android version. If you like so much the new camera features on new HTC One devices, then it may be worth to upgrade now.
I will change my Sensation when new devices with Android 5.0 start to sell.
Only my 2 cents

I will skip this generation of new phones. I will wait for next year for full hd screens and all cool new stuff. I find the upgrade from the sensation to the X is not that huge.

I was stupid enough not to buy a galaxy s 2, hating my sensation with its crappy speaker phone.Buy from samsung.

Same complaint here, however, I recently installed a ROM that comes with xLoud which is a Mod and to be honest it has made my sensation gain at least, 30% more volume.
I usually don't believe in gimmicky Mods such as Bravia engine and such because they usually just don't make any difference but I can assure that xLoud is definitely working for me. You can also flash this mod found at the theme section individually.

I like the one x...but the irremovable battery is what killed it for me. And I prefer sense over touchwiz. I love the galaxy s series don't get me wrong but sense is do much better IMO...I think I may hold off...and wait for something better to come along myself. There wasn't any phone this year with the WOW factor

I can't think of any particular reason why 1080p would be impossible. I think it would certainly be possible, if not a complete waste. All the icons and other display items would have to be resized to not be so tiny on a phone screen, even a 5" screen. 720p already looks amazing even on the largest screens available right now. And even qHD is amazing on 4.3" devices, so 720p will be awesome for quite a while.
Overall though, I have to agree that it doesn't seem like anything this year is worth upgrading from the Sensation. Especially if you have it running at its proper 1.5 GHz processor speed and ICS. Unless you absolutely must have something like NFC or a quad core (nearly useless, as stated earlier). Next year should hopefully show off some new things worth going after though.
If you must upgrade soon though, I have to agree that the HTC One S or the Galaxy S3 will be your best choices. Unless HTC is secretly working on something amazing in the next few months, I don't see any other options worth upgrading to.

Toshiba showed off a 6.1" screen with a res of 2560 x 1600 (498 ppi) a couple months ago.
Ortustech showed off a 4.8" 1920 x 1080 (448 ppi) about 7-8 months ago.
While at those high ppi figures, eyes can't discern individual pixels - you would be able to tell an overall difference.

I wouldn't be so sure. The MSM8260A (MSM8960 without LTE - used in One S) has the 42 Mbps radio integrated, and it would do wonders for battery life. I wouldn't be surprised if T-Mobile opted to use that SoC in their SIII.

Gs4g is alright but you will run out of app storage if you like alot of apps, only has 344 MB free out of the box. That's like 700 MB less then sensation. And the gs4g screen does have a good screen but sensation is way better. The difference is darker colors are richer on gs4g, gs4g not dial core, gs4g is laggy even rooted with a custom rom, big step down from sensation I have to say. Personally I wouldn't trade. Sensation is a better phone and get a 8,16, or 32 gb SD card and throw ur music on it and that takes place of itouch. But its up to you.

The galaxy has an amoled display that is pretty much far superior to the one we have. The sensation just has a higher resolution. Although the amoled has a weird bluish tint to it. As far as software goes, the galaxy s ain't nothing unless you root it and throw ... Cm7 for example, on it. The graphics rendering is faster on galaxy as well. Sesation has better battery life and build quality.
As far as processor goes, people just got to stop buying into the while 1.5 ghz or 1.8ghz bs. Our sensation wouldn't be $h*t without faux's kernel. Plus, our phones being dual core and all don't mean much as well until android is written to fully take advantage of two cores. Hopefully android ice cream sandwich will do the trick.
Samsung has the worse software support on the planet, I came from an epic 4G, I know trust me. The sensation is better because of the awesome software our devs put out. Still a long way to go, but it gets better every day. I just can't wait for cm7 on this bad boy

Although the SGS2 is a fantastic device, it's not all that much better than the Sensation. The only real selling points it has over the Sensation is the SAMOLED+ display tech, the onboard storage, and the Exynos CPU. It's also thinner and lighter. The Sensation though, has a higher density screen so even though it's LCD, it's nicer to look at (IMO). The size/weight issue is a personal thing - I had the original SGS and thought it felt too cheap and light to be such expensive device. To me, the extra heft of the Sensation makes it feel a nicer device, but whatever.
If you were upgrading from an older device, it'd be a tough choice as it is. If I were you though, I'd stay with the Sensation because you just won't notice $530 (or even $250) worth of difference
EDIT: as a side note, I did upgrade to the Sensation from a similar device - the LG Optimus 2X. I had multiple issues with that device though, and the Sensation feels like a dream in comparison.
I've just had the SGS2 and got rid of it for the Sensation. I don't regret it. What I will say is this : whichever one you have you will want the other!! But I can tell you that the Sensation is worth keeping. Find a rom that you like and personalise & tweak it. Personally, I'm using xl DI GIT AL lx "digitalized" ics themed rom. Very quick.
The phone is more of a premium handset in other's eyes as well.

This person is right.
Why anyone would get a device that's about to get outdated really, really soon makes no sense to me.
Id stick with the Sensation as well. Once it has ICS, it will be on the same level as the Prime anyways. Not as good, but on the same level.
Matt
I was waiting for the SGS2 to come out as well but now that it is out I actually don't think it is any better than the Sensation. I went to tmobile store to try it out and found that my Sensation feels better because of Sense. The SGS2 was not thinner than the Sensation imo. it feels bulkier in my pocket. I'm glad i went with the sensation instead of waiting forever for the SGS2
I'd stick with the Sensation and just load ICS when it get's released.
why bother with the SGSII at this point? especially considering Tmous version uses the same Snapdragon processor?
if you really feel the need to upgrade just wait out a few more months for the newer phones in the pipeline... at the very least until Nov. for the Nexus.

I would definitely go with the SGSII... Well I did, it's the better phone hands down. Longer battery life, not laggy like sensation as far as stock goes, it's been out two weeks and it's already rooted ( like a week ago) it already has a couple of ROMs and the super AMOLED plus display is stunning. Personally I like having a light device, it may be plastic but I'm sure it has better chances of surviving a drop than the sensation. Now on the other hand the sensation has a great resolution, very sharp and lots of ROMs and devs behind it so if you're into ROMs and customizing and all that than it should be good too. But comparing both phone stock, no contest, the SGSII is the better phone.
people should stop comparing SGS2 stock with Sensation stock!
Sense ROMs will always be slower then stock Android.
Main point of HTC phones are Sense. If you dislike Sense then SGS2 is the way to go.
I would also stich with sensation
Go to a shop and take a SGS2 and turn it on. Take your sensation and turn it on. Place the two displays in front of you.
At this point you will just have noticed the low res of the sgs2 and the blueish display of the samsung, and you will turn it off and return to the shelf.
Problem solved.

Guys... which is good Sensation or SAMSUNG Galaxy SII?

Guys I just want to know which is the best device to go for next? SGSII OR SENSATION? what say?

It would be more logical if you asked between the Amaze and the SGS2, since the Sensation is older. Anyways, I prefer the Amaze because of the higher pixel density. The SAMOLED+ is great, but a 4.5 inch screen with 480x800? Ill pass.

It honestly depends on what your looking for
If you like the sensation UI or Touchwiz UI, whether you want the extra horsepower or not, etc
I own a Galaxy S2, and I LOVE the thing to death!
It is EXTREMELY HARD to break it via flashing ROMS and Firmware, it has lots of support, it's powerful, has ICS support already, and has many benefits over the Sensation IMHO, the screen is better too, I played with a sensation and it felt laggy and slow at the Telstra store, even when I tweaked it a bit, everyone is going to have different opinions, but so far Samsung have won my vote
(I use to own a HTC Desire and HTC G1 (Dream))
and I prefer Samsung at the moment
I will be getting the Galaxy S III!

i own both sgs2 and a sensation, after using sensation for about a week i gave it to my wife and went back to s2. It's heavy and the screen is narrow and a few other things i didnt like about it. As far as sense goes i got over it in a week.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710a using xda premium
Yeah I agree the screen on the Sensation is stupidly narrow...I just cannot type on this thing (I actually had to download a iPhone default keyboard so I can type).
But I think the Sensation becomes a much better phone than the GS2 with the official ICS. On GB, the GS2 destroys the Sensation is terms of speed and smoothness, but on ICS its more or less even.
I mean seriously, do you want to buy a phone from a company than makes washing machines...or do you want to buy a phone from a company that invented the first touch screen smartphone?
And the end of the day as long as its not an iPhone or WP7 buy what you wish!
Honestly, I just switched from the i9000 to the Sensation XE recently, and you'd be crazy to buy a Samsung. Nothing on the i9000 worked properly, and one thing I learnt from the experience is that because Samsung develops a wide range of electronics, they will select inhouse electronics which clearly aren't designed well, over competitors whenever possible. (Just a short list, it was incredibly laggy, GPS was useless, their OS used too much ram, and the system reserved too much ram, and there wasn't near enough to actually use the phone without it crashing, it would crash regularly when browsing, etc). Oh, and then my flash memory died (like every other i9000's, and the flash seems to be a Samsung component).
That isn't likely to change. I now own a Sensation XE, and the only problem is occasionally reception. Just remember that the main problems with the Galaxy i9000s weren't immediately evident. HTC might be the better choice, because, HTC isn't a hardware company, so isn't forced to use controllers which are crap (ie, ones designed possibly designed inhouse) simply to avoid embarrassment.
Honestly, with the i9000's, there should be a class action lawsuit. The only good thing about them is that they were unbreakable
I'd stick with a Sensation over a Amaze. Amaze has a 1.5 dual-core and worse battery life. Only differences. Get a Sensation.
check out my bench mark results.
I have the regular Sensation
I think comparing to battery life sensation is better ryt?

Well I have Sensation XE and everything is stock and I absolutely love this phone, represents Android perfectly, not bashing Samsung here but touchwiz is a bit boring and too simple much like iOS (and I wonder why).
And as far as sense being a ram hog... Well good (better) things come at a cost so if you want something fun HTC is the way to go.
The aesthetics of the phone are amazing, feels like a proper phone in the hands and I absolutely love the back, the build quality is amazing as well. As far as death grip and issues of that sort go I haven't noticed much.
The display is amazing to and as far as the outside visibility goes I put my friends SGS2 along my XE and both were equally visible (same brightness). I'm not saying sAMOLED+ isn't a good display but there isn't much difference outdoors.

What to get next??

So I'm looking for my next phone.
I was all set to buy the One S but no expansion and removable battery.
The One X is too big.
So where do I go.
I want the One S but 12GB isn't going to cut it.
Whats coming and I am considering non HTC as I;m not big on the current direction.
Current favourite is Sony Xperia S but not completly convinced on this one is there anything coming soon worth waiting for?
Nothing in the very near future which would represent a noticeable upgrade from the sensation. Personally I'm waiting a bit longer.
Sent from the hell that is modern life.
Just hang on longer to the Sensation if you can't find anything. Mayne the SGS3?
If not, just keep the Sensaion and wait for better phones in Q3. Sensation is still a powerful piece of hardware

I was thinking one S as well but like you said the low amount of storage has put me off it. I mean, the non-removable battery I could live with but only 16 gb's of storage....HTC, what are you thinking???
One X isn't a phone it doesn't fit in many pockets easily far a start.
Nice screen for movies and browsing but a little too impracticable for everyday life.
I go into the highlands in Scotland a lot what use is 25GB of dropbox if you can't access it.
A mobile device is for when your out and about we don't all live in London with permanent 3G and WiFi hotspots around every corner and that's when you want to access the content.
Have you tried streaming on a train or down the motorway in my experience you get crap connection speeds when moving at speed.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
I absolutely agree with you. My concerns are the same. Everyone around me was impressed about this 25GB of storage with dropbox and I know for instance Three UK offer "all you can eat data" plan but they are the only one (as far as I know) and other carriers have their limit. And not to talk about still having gprs and edge connection in many area what I can't even use to fart on it... Anyway, brilliant phone is the One X but I still love my sensation and I'm sure I will sit on this phone till something similar will be released...
LG optimus 4X. Removable battery and an SD card. Hahahaha.

my thoughts exactly....

I was thinking one S as well but like you said the low amount of storage has put me off it. I mean, the non-removable battery I could live with but only 16 gb's of storage....HTC, what are you thinking???

After seeing the specs of the EVO LTE and the European ONE X I was greatly displeased and turned off by the ONE S. EVERY nextgen flagship phone coming out seems to crush it spec wise.
given the fact that i have had multiple HTC phones I have no faith in their ability to make a battery that is sufficient for the phone it supports. So to embed a paltry battery like the one in the ONE S was an immediate deal killer. Then to find out about the memory too...it was not even a second thought.
As for blaming HTC, I have seen the light. The new EVO will be a beast. There is an on board 16 gig memory PLUS its expandable for an additional 32 gig. There is also a 2000 Ma battery if I am not mistaken. HTC "can" make a desireable phone, but T-mo has not required nor demanded a game-changer or a true flagship from them which is sad. Until t-mo stops slacking we will have to sit out cycles (like now) or switch to other brands.
I think I will be sticking with my Sensation until Q3 or Q4. So I won't regret any purchase because by that time all of the flasghip from every manufacturer has already been released. The sensation is still too powerful anyway.

Just the development alone from DEV's on the Nexus line is more than enough.... NEVER again will i buy another Android Phone that is not the Nexus line.
The sensation should be too powerful but mine is laggy as Hell since getting Android 4.
New Motorola coming out has 3000mA battery, if moto can do it HTC should be capable.

There both good phones for me when I had my s2 I didn't like how it felt in my hand it felt cheap even though it ain't lol. My g2x was a good phone but no stable ics made me move to the sensation . But out of those 3 phones the g2x had the best screen while out doors

I have both, overall Htc is beter to me, but YMMV...
I suggest the s2. Although the screen resolution will feel terrible its more powerful than the senny and it will for sure get jelly bean, while the sensation is most likely not getting an official jelly bean update.

The Sensation has a higher resolution screen, but the Galaxy S2 has the exynos processor which makes it seem faster.
It's all down to personal preference.
I like the sensations hardware and hate its software (sense 3.6) But i like the galaxys software & amoled screen and hate its hardware (plastic), if that makes sense...
I had both.
sensation>s2>sensation.
Both are good.
If you want better performance - s2
better screen - sensation
SGS2.
HTC has sh*tty update policy, so the sensation won't get JB update. Former flagship phone won't get update, that is insane.
I'll never buy HTC phone anymore in my life. And even after that.
sgs2 for sure super amoled screen is awesome makes up for low resolution i have both and camre is also very good in s2 :victory:

I can't bear Amoled screens. You have to like blue screens to like Amoled ^^
Sgs2

i had the S2 then sold it and got the sensation used it for a while and i realized that i liked the S2 better so now I'm stuck with the S2 and i love it specially with the Jelly bean CM10.1 is just wicked .
but honestly there isn't much difference between them they are both nice devices i think it depends of each user how they feel .
Im afraid its 100% the galaxy s2

I test both, the GSII is slow and laggy with 100 apps, my sensation xe with 150 apps isn't laggy and is Awesome Fast. i think that is better the SENSATION.
My gf has sg2, it's definitely faster and has better battery life than the sensation. However, build quality wise, it's sensation all the way. SG2 has a much more thriving development scene too and, because it sold an order of magnitude more units than the seny, it will be supported by devs for far longer. Personally, I don't find the difference in performance big enough to make me regret my phone choice, and I'll move onto a new phone before lack of Dev support will become an issue. I value good design over slight performance boost. Plus, to be honest, I don't like Samsung's copy paste approach to touchwiz. At least HTC didn't blatantly try to rip off another company, that's got to be worth something, an HTC phone looks like an HTC phone - not a wanna be iPod.

Totally agree.
My wife has sg 2 and I have a senny. Hers is slicker that's for sure but build quality on my senny is far superior.
The thing I really hate about the sgs 2 is that horrible home screen button.
I have orderd the N4 now and will be sorry to loose the senny but I think that dev of the senny is just about peaking.
With stock stuff SGS2 is better imho, as Sensation has ****load of bloatware ... like Sense and whatnot, also SGS2 gets official Jelly Bean, whereas Sensation gets ****. With rooted stuff, still SGS2 is better since basically all of them Jelly Bean ROMs for Sensation got something "buggy, not-working as intended, not working at all or overall unstable, combitanion of all these factors at once in the worst case". So my subjective opinion is deffo SGS2.
