So I'm looking for my next phone.
I was all set to buy the One S but no expansion and removable battery.
The One X is too big.
So where do I go.
I want the One S but 12GB isn't going to cut it.
Whats coming and I am considering non HTC as I;m not big on the current direction.
Current favourite is Sony Xperia S but not completly convinced on this one is there anything coming soon worth waiting for?
Nothing in the very near future which would represent a noticeable upgrade from the sensation. Personally I'm waiting a bit longer.
Sent from the hell that is modern life.
Just hang on longer to the Sensation if you can't find anything. Mayne the SGS3?
If not, just keep the Sensaion and wait for better phones in Q3. Sensation is still a powerful piece of hardware

Xperia isn't much of an upgrade!! It still has the sane old S3 chip, not the newer & much better S4 one!

Nope, nothing worth upgrading to just yet.
Nothing on the horizon yet...I'm still enjoying the S4G & Xda development section!
Im looking at the samsung galaxy s3 depending how quad core is handled with battery life, the one s was my next choice too until the no sd card and removable battery. One x is too big so im left with samsung s3.

Physically I think
Storage is never big enough for ANYONE

I was thinking one S as well but like you said the low amount of storage has put me off it. I mean, the non-removable battery I could live with but only 16 gb's of storage....HTC, what are you thinking???
One X isn't a phone it doesn't fit in many pockets easily far a start.
Nice screen for movies and browsing but a little too impracticable for everyday life.
I go into the highlands in Scotland a lot what use is 25GB of dropbox if you can't access it.
A mobile device is for when your out and about we don't all live in London with permanent 3G and WiFi hotspots around every corner and that's when you want to access the content.
Have you tried streaming on a train or down the motorway in my experience you get crap connection speeds when moving at speed.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
I absolutely agree with you. My concerns are the same. Everyone around me was impressed about this 25GB of storage with dropbox and I know for instance Three UK offer "all you can eat data" plan but they are the only one (as far as I know) and other carriers have their limit. And not to talk about still having gprs and edge connection in many area what I can't even use to fart on it... Anyway, brilliant phone is the One X but I still love my sensation and I'm sure I will sit on this phone till something similar will be released...
LG optimus 4X. Removable battery and an SD card. Hahahaha.

After seeing the specs of the EVO LTE and the European ONE X I was greatly displeased and turned off by the ONE S. EVERY nextgen flagship phone coming out seems to crush it spec wise.
given the fact that i have had multiple HTC phones I have no faith in their ability to make a battery that is sufficient for the phone it supports. So to embed a paltry battery like the one in the ONE S was an immediate deal killer. Then to find out about the memory too...it was not even a second thought.
As for blaming HTC, I have seen the light. The new EVO will be a beast. There is an on board 16 gig memory PLUS its expandable for an additional 32 gig. There is also a 2000 Ma battery if I am not mistaken. HTC "can" make a desireable phone, but T-mo has not required nor demanded a game-changer or a true flagship from them which is sad. Until t-mo stops slacking we will have to sit out cycles (like now) or switch to other brands.
I think I will be sticking with my Sensation until Q3 or Q4. So I won't regret any purchase because by that time all of the flasghip from every manufacturer has already been released. The sensation is still too powerful anyway.

I couldn't wait any longer, didn't want to wait for HTC's 2012 flagships, didn't want to wait for the official T-MoUS Galaxy Nexus, didn't want to wait for Huawei's Ascend P1 S, even if it is 6.69mm thin. I decided to go for this phone, I'll have it by the end of the week. So, of course, besides rooting it, murdering Sense and having some fun with Virtuous Inquisition, what else should I do? I need some ideas, because once I get the phone I'll pretty much forget everything I wanted to do.
So, what do you suggest?

While having virtuous inquisition, flash HTC music app, then Beats. stick witch the HTC camera app, it's way better then aosp one. Also, I recommend flashing SebastianFM 1.5 oc/UV kernel. System tuner pro also come in handy to set everything up. Don't forget to use 4ext recovery beta 8
Try out the hypersensation rom. ICS + our camera + zero compression makes for great photos.

If you're getting the normal sensation you have to buy a bigger battery. I bought the mugen htc evo 3d 1950 mah, and it works great!
Sad to say but first thing you should do is see how hot it gets while running GPS, just to make sure it wasn't a defective unit like mine. Then obviously root, recovery, and have a ton of fun

Sensation = good phone with very bad battery....
Battery isn't that bad but the Anker and Mugen ones are slightly better. I've come to accept that smart phones need to be charged every day. Anyone who claims their phone lasts 2-3 days actually means "luckily I have no friends so I never need to actually use my phone" or "I left my phone at work over the weekend and amazingly it still had 10% charge when I got back in on Monday".

Not as far as I'm concerned. I originally bought the Sensation cash, then a month later I qualified for a free hardware update from my carrier. I opted for the Galaxy Nexus 16Gb, but after using that it for another month I sold the GN and kept the Sensation.
Other Samsung models may be different from the GN, but if the GN is any indication, the Sensation is a very good choice.
I can guarantee u won't be disappointed with this phone bro. The qhd display is an awesome step up from the mt4g. Im running ARHD 4.03 with sense 3.6, oc kernel 1.7 and all I can say is damn lol..

They're not that bad. There's just one undesirable thing is almost every single phone of theirs. The Galaxy S II has a freaking HDPI resolution, I mean qHD wouldn't have killed them. And T-Mobile's version is tainted with Snapdragon. The Mali 400 is awesome. The Galaxy Nexus is nice, but the camera... ugh. I wouldn't mind the 5MP, but the sensor is awful. There's noise all over the picture, and the ZSL seems more like a rushed photo than a good picture taken carefully and quickly.

Considering this phone does full 1080p recording, Class 4 doesn't seem sufficient. I don't take videos very often unless I am travelling, anyway, so even a Class 2 microSD would cut it.

It would be more logical if you asked between the Amaze and the SGS2, since the Sensation is older. Anyways, I prefer the Amaze because of the higher pixel density. The SAMOLED+ is great, but a 4.5 inch screen with 480x800? Ill pass.

It honestly depends on what your looking for
If you like the sensation UI or Touchwiz UI, whether you want the extra horsepower or not, etc
I own a Galaxy S2, and I LOVE the thing to death!
It is EXTREMELY HARD to break it via flashing ROMS and Firmware, it has lots of support, it's powerful, has ICS support already, and has many benefits over the Sensation IMHO, the screen is better too, I played with a sensation and it felt laggy and slow at the Telstra store, even when I tweaked it a bit, everyone is going to have different opinions, but so far Samsung have won my vote
(I use to own a HTC Desire and HTC G1 (Dream))
and I prefer Samsung at the moment
I will be getting the Galaxy S III!
Honestly...none...
I would prefer htc one x..if you can wait more surely s3...

i own both sgs2 and a sensation, after using sensation for about a week i gave it to my wife and went back to s2. It's heavy and the screen is narrow and a few other things i didnt like about it. As far as sense goes i got over it in a week.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710a using xda premium
Yeah I agree the screen on the Sensation is stupidly narrow...I just cannot type on this thing (I actually had to download a iPhone default keyboard so I can type).
But I think the Sensation becomes a much better phone than the GS2 with the official ICS. On GB, the GS2 destroys the Sensation is terms of speed and smoothness, but on ICS its more or less even.
I mean seriously, do you want to buy a phone from a company than makes washing machines...or do you want to buy a phone from a company that invented the first touch screen smartphone?
And the end of the day as long as its not an iPhone or WP7 buy what you wish!
Honestly, I just switched from the i9000 to the Sensation XE recently, and you'd be crazy to buy a Samsung. Nothing on the i9000 worked properly, and one thing I learnt from the experience is that because Samsung develops a wide range of electronics, they will select inhouse electronics which clearly aren't designed well, over competitors whenever possible. (Just a short list, it was incredibly laggy, GPS was useless, their OS used too much ram, and the system reserved too much ram, and there wasn't near enough to actually use the phone without it crashing, it would crash regularly when browsing, etc). Oh, and then my flash memory died (like every other i9000's, and the flash seems to be a Samsung component).
That isn't likely to change. I now own a Sensation XE, and the only problem is occasionally reception. Just remember that the main problems with the Galaxy i9000s weren't immediately evident. HTC might be the better choice, because, HTC isn't a hardware company, so isn't forced to use controllers which are crap (ie, ones designed possibly designed inhouse) simply to avoid embarrassment.
Honestly, with the i9000's, there should be a class action lawsuit. The only good thing about them is that they were unbreakable
I'd stick with a Sensation over a Amaze. Amaze has a 1.5 dual-core and worse battery life. Only differences. Get a Sensation.
check out my bench mark results.
I have the regular Sensation
I think comparing to battery life sensation is better ryt?

Well I have Sensation XE and everything is stock and I absolutely love this phone, represents Android perfectly, not bashing Samsung here but touchwiz is a bit boring and too simple much like iOS (and I wonder why).
And as far as sense being a ram hog... Well good (better) things come at a cost so if you want something fun HTC is the way to go.
The aesthetics of the phone are amazing, feels like a proper phone in the hands and I absolutely love the back, the build quality is amazing as well. As far as death grip and issues of that sort go I haven't noticed much.
The display is amazing to and as far as the outside visibility goes I put my friends SGS2 along my XE and both were equally visible (same brightness). I'm not saying sAMOLED+ isn't a good display but there isn't much difference outdoors.

First off I'd like to say that the sensation is probably the best choice I've ever made for a phone just because of the amount of development that is still happening to this day. And as much as I love this phone. Technology is moving too fast and I'm going to need an upgrade soon. What are some suggestions u guys could give me on making a decision for a phone with as much developmental success as the sensation.

Hi,
I better ask you why you think an upgrade is needed. If you're bored from your current Sensation, then it's fine, but IMO there is no real need to upgrade to any current devices which allows you to do much more than your actual device. Even you can install Sense 4.0 custom roms if you like how One X and S look and feel.
On day to day usage I think there is no much difference from having 2 or 4 cores running on current Android version. If you like so much the new camera features on new HTC One devices, then it may be worth to upgrade now.
I will change my Sensation when new devices with Android 5.0 start to sell.
Only my 2 cents
I will skip this generation of new phones. I will wait for next year for full hd screens and all cool new stuff. I find the upgrade from the sensation to the X is not that huge.

Same complaint here, however, I recently installed a ROM that comes with xLoud which is a Mod and to be honest it has made my sensation gain at least, 30% more volume.

I can't think of any particular reason why 1080p would be impossible. I think it would certainly be possible, if not a complete waste. All the icons and other display items would have to be resized to not be so tiny on a phone screen, even a 5" screen. 720p already looks amazing even on the largest screens available right now. And even qHD is amazing on 4.3" devices, so 720p will be awesome for quite a while.
Overall though, I have to agree that it doesn't seem like anything this year is worth upgrading from the Sensation. Especially if you have it running at its proper 1.5 GHz processor speed and ICS. Unless you absolutely must have something like NFC or a quad core (nearly useless, as stated earlier). Next year should hopefully show off some new things worth going after though.
If you must upgrade soon though, I have to agree that the HTC One S or the Galaxy S3 will be your best choices. Unless HTC is secretly working on something amazing in the next few months, I don't see any other options worth upgrading to.

Toshiba showed off a 6.1" screen with a res of 2560 x 1600 (498 ppi) a couple months ago.
Ortustech showed off a 4.8" 1920 x 1080 (448 ppi) about 7-8 months ago.
While at those high ppi figures, eyes can't discern individual pixels - you would be able to tell an overall difference.

I wouldn't be so sure. The MSM8260A (MSM8960 without LTE - used in One S) has the 42 Mbps radio integrated, and it would do wonders for battery life. I wouldn't be surprised if T-Mobile opted to use that SoC in their SIII.

No unless it had 32gb of storage. Assuming this is the t-mobile one s without removable battery and without micro sd card slot
One S... nope.
One X... sure.
The One X+! If tmob ever gets it.
Tmobiles not getting the HTC one x at&t is only getting it.I know it sucks.

sure, if you want to lose the sd card support an removable battery
Decided to keep my sensation, loss of expandable memory kind of turned me off...
The one s is way nicer. IMO

And to get inferior (IMHO) pentile Amoled screen.
Neither One X, One S or even GS3 are worth upgrade from Sensation tbh. Might as well sit it out till Xmas or March next year. And i'd avoid tegra3.
There won't be anything worth the upgrade until next year at least on T-Mobile. Unless the OneX+ comes but it's not going to happen

Opinions are like... Well you know... And I'm offing this thing ASAP to get a note 2. Easily a worthy upgrade. As far as on topic, as has been said maybe for a one x but one s just disappointed the hell out of me. First smart phone I ever had was HTC and every one since; but they need to open their eyes. This year was an abysmal failure by HTC. Especially for tmo customers. I honestly want to know who thought no removable memory/battery was a good idea. When's the last time you heard someone say "this phone is great but I just wish they would lock the battery up and not let me expand the memory." Just because Iphone does it doesn't mean it's right. I'd be hard pressed to even find an Iphone user that didn't want to take the battery out and expand the memory. That's not even a feature, it's a lack of a feature. 2 at that.

I wouldnt lol. I'll still keep my Sensation and just get another device. With Sensation's removable battery and microsd card, my Sensation can be media device for my car.
The problem with the note II is that if I wanted a tablet I'd just get a tablet. Its size is just too large to carry as a phone.

A LOT of people say you get used to it in no time.
Good manners cost nothing.
I thought I didn't like sense at all and was always using Nova Launcher, until i rooted and flashed vipers from sense 4.1 and now I think i will miss if I go pure google.
The question is for those that don't like sense and are always rooting to get stock android..would you give up your beloved sensation for the nexus 4?..
Consider the specs updates and tempting low price tag it comes with.
I searched the forum but if someone already said this please delete thread ASAP!!!

On our Sensations, we have the option of Sense or pure AOSP, so I would stick with the Sensation just for that flexibility. Every time I try and switch to the latest CM10 or other ROMs I end up coming right back to ViperS Sense, I love how all the features just work. And the Sense contact linking is great, my only gripe is the low-res contact pictures.
Without a second thought.
Why would I not trade a year and a half phone for a new phone that will get updates directly from Google? First of all, we don't even know if the Sensation will get JB.
And that's before specs are even considered.
I'm with you on this, I don't want to go back to the "pure google" experience. It feels to raw and the custom sense roms we have around are very good these days...
With the price being low on the Nexus 4, why not have both? That's what I'm doing

Not even, what for? Dual boot if you want AOSP. Going back from sense is hard lol, truly

Nexus 4
I've always wanted a Nexus phone. I got my Nexus 7 tablet the first day it was offered, and I love it. So, yes. MY Sensation is going to be retired as soon as I get my hands on a Nexus 4.
Of course. Except the Sensation 4G isn't even worth half of what the Nexus 4 is worth on the market, that is, given it's still in mint condition.
Will be getting the N4 and selling the S4G on eBay.
For me the upgrade doesn't make sense unless I can sell my sensation for $180 or more

Would trade it right now.
The Sensation is the c**ppiest phone I've ever owned. I had it replaced once and now it's sent again for repairs, for the 5th time.
if Nexus lacks SD slot as i have readed somewhere then deffo not, if there is a sd slot ... well ... no either way, i would go for SGS3
I think I'll stay with Sensation. There is a lot of ROMs for it and that's the cool thing. However I'm planning to buy Nexus 10 as an addition.
I don't care for LG phones. The galaxy note 2 looks more appealing to me.

In my experiance lg phones are rubbish.
Like the cookie or the lg k series .
Heard nothing but crap from lg.
So if i would go for an upgrade it will be a htc or samsung phone i guess

Without a doubt.

The bought my sensation XE in January for £400 plus £50 for one year insurance simfree and trading it for 140 plus another £100 to just get N4 then insure it as well..so I think I will buy the nexus 7 for pure and keep my sensation right now..otherwise I'm seeing a major loss.

well from reading articles online and friends' experiences, LG has apparently bumped up the build quality of their phones. I havent had any personal experiences with LG devices, but the N4 does look good. the only real downside for me is lack of SD card (I carry around a lot of music files), but now that Ive switched to the unlimited data plan I stream my music a lot more through Audiogalaxy
benefits of sensation over the nexus 4:
1. removable battery (only an issue for very few)
2. microsd (also only an issue for a few who need more than 8-16GB)
3. SenseUI (only an issue for the noobies who prefer sense over AOSP/CM/AOKP)
nexus 4 is much better in every way as long as those 3 arent a problem for you
also, LG hardware is usually solid, its their crappy software that turns people off.
either way, all the reviews say this is a solid device. the Nexus branding will help LG make a name for themselves, the way it made HTC known in the android world, and the same way it made samsung known. its more about getting out there than it is about profits.
I would spend my hard earned money on a Samsung phone, won't touch an LG phone after my Vu experience.
Sgs3 and Note 2 are 2 outstanding android phones. Sorry HTC, my experience with sensation will be my final adieu to HTC.
