2012 year of the quad cores - myTouch 4G General

So I wanted to upgrade to a new phone like the amaze but it makes sense to wait two more or 3 months for the quad core processor phones right guys? Let's hear some feeback and what are you gonna do? Wait it out too??
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

Yea, I agree. I get bored easily, this is the first phone I've kept for this long (about a year). At first, I was looking at a gradual upgrade, something like a sensation or a g2x... Then I figured if I'm gonna spend $$, might as well just do it for the long haul & look into an amaze, galaxy s2 or even wait for a galaxy nexus... After all is said & done, I'm still using my glacier & will continue to do so. We've got an awesome dev section & something better will always be just ahead of the curve, but I'm definitely waiting for 2012...

Yea bro I feel ya..it'll be best to wait it out cause if I buy a phone I might as get one that will be quad and better camera and faster processor..I love my mytouch it has been with me through alot

I'm interested in the HTC ville. Not quad core but the krait dual core processor looks interesting. Especially since ICS is optimized for dual core.

Rumored samsung galaxy s3
currently researching sg2 and nexus prime..

Wait for the quad core nexus. Quad cores will have better architectures and will be more stable, better battery life, and etc.

The Ville is the 4.3" ICS phone right? That sounds so much nicer size-wise than the massive Galaxy Nexus. Should come out more compact than the Amaze or Sensation due to the removal of buttons.
However the render appears to have a screen aspect ratio of 1.64 or so, which is closer to the 5x3 of an 800x480 display than the 16x9 (1.777) of a qHD display. So the render is misshapen.

Yes the ville is the 4.3" screen one. Same screen as the RAZR i believe. Its gonna be nice because the 28nm processor allows for it to be really thin. So it shouldn't be much heavier than the MT4G.

it will come with 1.5GH snapdragon s4 processor and here's the full specification of it. A 4.3-inch qHD (960×540) Super AMOLED display; a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor; 8MP camera on the back with 1080p HD video capture; a 1,650mAh battery; HSPA+-connectivity; and Beats Audio Technology. The handset will apparently measure in at only 8mm thick, will launch with Android 4.0, and will also launch HTC’s Sense 4.0 overlay.

I'm just gonna wait for the next Nexus. Saves me the headache of whether my phone will have the latest Android software.

Ugh, when you say same screen as the RAZR, I hope you don't mean including the PenTile matrix. I thought I wouldn't notice it at qHD resolution, but I tried it in store and the colour fringing was just awful.

If you are waiting for the greatest smartphone you will be waiting forever, there is always going to be a rumor about a supposed OMG smartphone RIGHT before you was about to purchase the smartphone you thought was awesome. In my opinion, to have a really satisfying smartphone experience there needs to be great utilization of software and hardware. Software is something that has always been a bit of a hindered on devices with custom skins (most of the Android ecosystem). The only ways to really circumvent this is to either buy a Nexus devices or root your device in HOPES of finding a solid ROM to flash. I think this makes the decision quite easy, buy the Galaxy Nexus.

i agree. They build something to withstand idiots, we just build stronger idiots, then they make something more idiot-proof, then we build stronger idiots... it's a n3rd version of Tom and Jerry.
Awesome looking device, I just wish it had 1GB RAM. As for the locked bootloader issue, I agree with the above comments. It might be more difficult from now on, but with the knowledgeable people we have working on it, that issue will be overcome.

Gs4g is alright but you will run out of app storage if you like alot of apps, only has 344 MB free out of the box. That's like 700 MB less then sensation. And the gs4g screen does have a good screen but sensation is way better. The difference is darker colors are richer on gs4g, gs4g not dial core, gs4g is laggy even rooted with a custom rom, big step down from sensation I have to say. Personally I wouldn't trade. Sensation is a better phone and get a 8,16, or 32 gb SD card and throw ur music on it and that takes place of itouch. But its up to you.

The galaxy has an amoled display that is pretty much far superior to the one we have. The sensation just has a higher resolution. Although the amoled has a weird bluish tint to it. As far as software goes, the galaxy s ain't nothing unless you root it and throw ... Cm7 for example, on it. The graphics rendering is faster on galaxy as well. Sesation has better battery life and build quality.
As far as processor goes, people just got to stop buying into the while 1.5 ghz or 1.8ghz bs. Our sensation wouldn't be $h*t without faux's kernel. Plus, our phones being dual core and all don't mean much as well until android is written to fully take advantage of two cores. Hopefully android ice cream sandwich will do the trick.
Samsung has the worse software support on the planet, I came from an epic 4G, I know trust me. The sensation is better because of the awesome software our devs put out. Still a long way to go, but it gets better every day. I just can't wait for cm7 on this bad boy

IMO the sensation really isn't anything special. The screen on it sucks and its not that fast for it being a dual core phone. I played with the epic touch gs2 yesterday....and now that's a phone to drool over. That right now is the only phone out that's worth an upgrade from the mt4g. Again this is just my opinion.

I've heard some bad things about the Sensation, but I think the sluggish speed is caused by the async Snapdragon that Qualcomm made. Both CPUs won't be on unless they're both needed and I'm guessing that doesn't work really good in Gingerbread, so perhaps on 1 core is active. When the Exynos or Tegra 2 the cores are both on all the time, so they should be faster, although they still clock up and down as normal. The screen in lacking, but it's no S/Amoled or IPS or Retina. HTC doesn't really produce nicer screens like the competition, they use S-LCD or LCD in their phones, not sure if they have any other tech ATM.
Well, I can agree on this. I've never been a fan of MyTouch models, but T-Mo forced me. I've been from a T-Mo G1 (Dream), to a T-Mo G2 (Desire Z), then to a samsung Galaxy S 4g and when it got stolen, the assurant would only leave me with a MyTouch 4g. Really can't compare the screen, but hey, I'm more than pleased. I'm quite impressed this phone doesn't have that much of a great feedback from T-Mo. :/ Oh well.
Yeah I've had a bunch, came from an epic and I have to say this phone is good stock. Unity is boss though. Omfg.

Totally happier with this one. SGS4G relied TOO MUCH on the screen~ and it was just annoying sometimes. I got used to physical buttons because of my last phones, so I felt like using an iPhone not an Android. And besides, the SGS4G's front facing camera was just sad.

Sorry was it hard for you to comprehend?
DhD = Desire HD (GSM)
TB = Thunderbolt (CDMA)
2GS = Second Generation Spandragon
So technically Inspire HD (GSM-US) is equivalent of Desire HD (GSM-EU). Since we real pro die hard SmartPhone user know HTC owns Moto and SamSUX, so that's another subject of its own.
Now the point I was making is as you being home user you yourself do not need or dual core mCPU yet. So MT4G is same spec as Thunderbolt (yes I'm aware of the screen and nand diff). Thus last of its kind not failed attempt to upgrade us to dual core when Android framework so far utilizing only cpu0 as cpu1 thread is most not used as OS and App is not using it yet.

Most likely, never had the chance to check. The phone got stolen a month after bought so I could barely play around with it. It's not usual of me to root a phone the same day I get it; I stay with root for a few days, and in this case, a month. Now with the MT4G, no way I was gonna stay with stock for a month, no way. |: hahaha.

Why to get a Sensation?

Ok, as a current Desire user I'm getting more and more tempted to switch to a Sensation (and seeing as a lot of Desire devs are jumping ship to other devices).
Anyone care to give me some reasons for making the switch? I've had my trusty Desire for over 18 months but I'm getting itchy fingers to get something new? So...
Why get a Sensation?
Thanks.
I think that's a question for you to answer. Do you see any features in the Sensation that you want that are not available in the Desire?
If yes, are these features important enough for you to decide to switch phones?
If yes, switch. If no, don't.
Sensation is a good phone, but every phone has its quirks and every opinion is relative. Take all biased reviews and suggestions with several grains of salt. Good luck!

My Vibrant always ran slower than my glacier, even when both have identical cm7 setups and oc. Ram was the missing link.
My glacier with oc runs better than sensation without, even though the glacier is only a single core.

I upgraded to sensation because the physical buttons on my desire started to get loose and weren't responsive. Very happy with it so far, mostly notice the much bigger screen (like a pocket tablet) and sense 3.0. Build quality is very sturdy and design is beautiful/minimal, exactly what I was looking for. I would highly recommend it if you have the cash.

Exactly the reason why I upgrade my desire to sensation... less the front camera which is kind of... crappy imo

Totally agree but I guess at least it has some sort of front camera.
wait.
my advice is to wait if you can. The Sensation is limited. Its good for now, but with Ice cream sandwich coming soon HTC is going to put the Sensation and the Amaze in its rear view (if you are a T-mo customer). I was going to get the Amaze in march, but what is the point? Even the XE is a gimmick.
You don't want to wait for HTC to hand out the ICS upgrades either. Besides, the industry standard 1 gig RAM is not in the sensation and the internal storage is poor. There will be a phone that is up to par (with ICS) from HTC by April.

Nexus, You get an amazing looking phone running the latest Android and let's not forget, No Touchwiz

You have a One X. Why would youu want a new phone that is actually older?
But Nexus wins. It doesn't have the Exynos processor, but an HD screen, bigger screen, faster updates, lots of development (S2 does too).
Camera is meh but like I said you have a One X which has one of the best cameras on a smartphone in the market.

I need it as a side mobile..
Hmm seems nexus would be a good choice
BTW have any one tried any high end graphics games like nova 3 on nexus how's the performance?

Nexus is a good choice as a side mobile. Nexus can always run latest andoroid version without aby efforts.

What's a side mobile and why doesn't your regular mobile work?

The S2 easy. It's been around for ages and can still compete with the newest flagship devices.

The Nexus will be better because you will get your updates much quicker and straight from Google! I'd go with that.
I am a GNex owner and I say that you made a great choise!!!
The speed and the screen are perfect!
I play with it and its Platform since the first day..
I just love it..!
GS2 it is good but it doesn't give you the same feeling as the GNex!
Enjoy it!!

+1
i sign that
I faced the exactly the same question when helping my wife to decide a smartphone. I did a little research on the internet, and here are the reason why I choose SII over Nexus.
1. Super AMOLED vs AMOLED HD
Yes, Nexus as better resolution and higher ppi, but the quality of display, the color saturation on the SII is better than the Nexus when comparing them side by side
2. Corning Gorilla Glass
This is only for the SII, Nexus doesn't have that.
3. CPU + GPU
Galaxy S2 CPU:1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU、Samsung Exynos 4210。
Galaxy Nexus CPU:1.2GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU、TI OMAP 4460。
Same CPU, but the GPU for SII is slightly better suited for high end graphics
4. Camera
Galaxy S2:8MP rear camper with 1080p HD video、2MP front
Galaxy Nexus:5MP rear camera with 1080p HD video、1.3MP front
So in the end, I choose the SII instead of Galexy Nexus. But please keep in mind, that the difference are minor, so if you have already choose the Nexus, stay with it. Both are excellent benchmark android device. Excellent phones from Samsung.

you made the right choice...enjoy......

I have to agree to all these because they are sure true. But I would never change the beautiful and super smooth Galaxy Nexus..
