Im opening this because my ild one was closed for no reason. Never was contacted by a mod or anything. It was just closed without reason.
Ao basically im able to open up a new contract on ATT. Im just not sure what to get though. The choices i had above are what i was thinking but im open to suggestions and opinions.

I'm not sure why it got closed either. Lately it seems the mods are a little trigger happy on the lock in the general section. Seems like a perfectly legitimate topic that fits well into the rules of general...
You already know my opinion though . Wait for more info on the GSIII. The Note has been out too long (in my opinion) and therefore the hardware is a little underwhelming. It seems the GSIII or One X will fare better in terms of updates to new versions of Android too, with both being the flagship. Like you said, the GSIII is bound to have a big ole battery, and the One X plagued by the same old battery issues of HTC. Add in the fact that you can't replace the battery, and that's a big problem.
By the way, a good site to look for info on the GSIII is linked below. They add updates quite often at the bottom of the article.

Update: Samsung's marketing agency looks like it might have dropped the ball, reportedly confirming that the Galaxy S3 will hit stores worldwide in April.

So it looks to be an April release at best, other info points to May 22 as a day of significance.

Well where does this belong? It seems like it fits in general. And no one said anything about it being in the wrong section. If someone would have said something when they locked it, i would have opened the new one up in the correct section. But i recieved no notice as to why it was locked or who locked it.

I just feel like this thread offers more of a discussion (general) than a simple question (Q&A). Stumpy, maybe next time lose the question mark at the end and put [discussion] before the title. I suppose the fact that your main intent is to help with your next phone might've been why it got moved.

SGS3 vs OneX vs Note?
Here's my take on things:
Note is immediately disqualified since it simply belongs in the previous generation. It can still run almost anything, if not all, apps on the Play Store though.
SGS3 vs OneX! Now here's where we get a hard time! Anyway, I'd go for the OneX because it's already available And since your on T-Mob then you'll be ending up with the Krait version which I actually consider superior to the 4-PLUS-1 NVIDIA chip. BUT if SGS3 comes out with a 32nm or a similar 28nm architecture then it's gonna be a no-brainer for me and go for the SGS3. 40-45nm is simply no match for <32nm chips.
Plus: The camera on the OneX kinda sucks compared to the SGS2, so I'm guessing the cam on the SGS3 will own it.

I have the AT&T note and I love it. Yeah the screen is huge but man it is beautiful. As far as speed it does everything I want it to without any slowdowns. There are OC'ed kernels for it that can really make this sucker fly if you want high benchmarks. For me, it runs perfectly the way it is.
I would love to get my hands on the SGS3 but by the time it land on AT&T store shelves it will probably be Q4 of this year or sometime next year. Remember when the SGS2 came out? That phone hit the Asian and European market well before it hit the states. And when it got here it kinda lost its luster.
Lastly the HTC One X. I'm just getting real tire of HTC. The phone is beautiful and comes with some nice hardware BUT no micro SD or removable battery is deal breaker for me. I don't know what they were thinking. Its not too difficult adding these options but they carelessly neglected it.
And please people don't start telling me that 16gb of internal memory is enough. Maybe its enough for you but it's not enough for me. I don't tell you what you want so don't tell me what I want.
Just my 2 cents.

I think it is a matter of timing. If you already have a fairly recent dual core LTE device then the One X will only be an incremental step up. Faster, yes, but not as big a difference as if you were going from a single core phone to the One X. If the S3 lives up to expectations with a new generation quad core, however, it could be a significant increase in performance (final specs yet to be released...).
Problem is we dont know when the S3 is coming out, especially not in the states. If they do announce the release date during their press event on May 22nd it will still be at least 2-3 months before it makes it to the US.
For me, my old Captivate just hard-bricked and I need a new phone ASAP, so I will be getting the One X as soon as it comes out. If I had one of the newer previously mentioned devices (including the note), I would wait and compare.

exactly why I said if I could wait I would. The Samsung Galaxy line has been the leader for the last two years, but HTC is trying to reclaim the throne as the best smart phone producer (so they have something to prove).
The S3 could blow everyone else out of the water, or it could just be in equal running with all the others coming out this year (meaning it would be a matter of taste at that point). "Could" is the key word here...
I have been thinking of buying the Tegra 3 version from overseas it says on most review sites that its compatible with ATT. Dont have LTE in my area so thats not usefull to me. Anyone thought about that option yet.

Tegra 3 sucks. Its already been shown that the s4 beats it. Plus the s4 requires less power. And dont give me the stupid quad core automatically is better than dual core argument either. And this isnt even rated to why this was started. Thats not an option for me. Im nlt going to go shell out 700 for a phone that sucks compared to one i can get for $200

I didn't say it didn't exist, it just virtually doesn't exist. I know your excitement is getting the better of you, but outside of the baseless rumors you hear every other day; nothing about the phone is known other than it's going to be here one day. It makes sense to make a comparison once the specs are officially ripped and posted for inspection.

MT4G by far the most superior phone today now here is the thing if you are in USA then get MT4G but if you are elsewhere get DHD which share similar spec as MT4G along with 4.3" display but hand to hand with MT4G on benchmark its fried. If DHD-3G was supported in USA I would have got that but I am perfectly happy with MT4G now that I unleashed the beast within.
BTW before you buy MT4G make sure you get the superior screen, best way to do this is:

Also be aware of FFC being off centered if it don't matter also check that the button does not creak and the light does not leak. HTC QC did very bad job with first batch of MT4G so becareful if you are buying used one.
Coming from a G1, I would say the G2 is the logical choice. With dual core phones coming out pretty soon, if I were in your position I would wait.
And what do you need dual core for? lol I use to think like that as I had HD2 7months before it came out in USA and my upgrade would have been dualcore based superphone now thats on startup in CES2011 but MT4G was quick gap and I can clearly see I don't need dualcore and no one avg end user need it. What app will support dual stack? Wait for them to perfect on it as more vendors get in and drive the price down a bit.
I would get the MT4G or G2. Dual cores aren't need with the speed you get with those two phones. Besides you can get G2 free now.
Yeah I perm-rooted my brother in law's Mytouch 4G and then flashed it with Evil's Desire rom, overclocked it to 1.4ghz and that thing is smoking fast. The screen looks amazing and after playing with it, I thought, "Why haven't I heard a lot about this phone?" Everywhere I go, everyone is talking about the iPhone 4 or the Nexus S but when I played with both, I just felt like the MyTouch 4G is snappier.
I have about a day to decide if I want to bite on the MyTouch 4G added to my brother in law's account.
What's the return policy with T-Mobile if I decide I want a different phone?

Was it a Nexus S? Because if so the comparison may be misrepresented. As far as I know iPhones can't really be made that much faster than stock but the Nexus S on the other hand, I'm pretty sure, is able to be overclocked and can probably outperform the overclocked MyTouch 4G. However, if the comparison was between overclocked versions of both phones then I believe you are good to go with your decision of the MyTouch as opposed to the other too.

Care to back up your claims with applicable benchmarks? You obviously lost your mind, as native to native MT4G out runs NS clock per clock frequency. You think Hummingbird vs MSM8255 is even match? lol don't be silly MSM8255 is superior. But NS is superior in graphic I have to give credit where its due. As Adreno 205 GPU is slight by very small margin behind SGX540 GPU also NS has SAMOLED. In the overall quality MT4G takes out NS any days did I also mention NS is made by Samsung? Do I need to say more?

I hate to correct you, but you're wrong.
An over-clocked MyTouch 4G even with T-Mobile rom runs circles around the Nexus S. The GPU is mighty on the Nexus S, but I'd like my phone to be capable of a good strong GPS signal as it will be my primary GPS unit.
The only reason I would remotely consider a Nexus S is vanilla Google experience and Android updates months ahead of competition. But when it comes to hardware, HTC did a much better job making an "Android flagship" than Google's choice and I guess it makes sense that Google doesn't select the same manufacturer year after year to keep manufacturers happy with Android.
Plus after trying out evil's roms, I'm rather confident the developers here at xda will keep a MyTouch 4G up to date.
The only question is whether to bite or wait for the 2011 wave of devices. I know everyone says "What will you need dual core for?" But that's exactly what developers are going to figure out lol. If the power is there, they're going to make applications that will utilize it.

The return policy of T-Mobile is listed below:
The website is support.t-mobile.com/doc/tm21963.xml?related=y&Referring%20Related%20DocID%20List%20Index=..
You have 14 calendar days (30 in CA) from the date of purchase to return purchased equipment to the point of purchase. Equipment must be in good working condition with original contents and packaging to be eligible for a refund of the purchase price. This return policy applies to the purchase of new equipment from T-Mobile or its authorized dealers. Proof of purchase is required. We may charge a restocking fee.
You have never mentioned how long you want to keep the phone for? If it's one year, you can just get a phone now. If you're waiting, you should keep in mind that the dual-cores coming out this first half of the year will probably lag behind (a bit) the dual-cores coming out in the second half of the year.

Hence, the reason I explicitly placed in bold the phrases "As far as I know" and "I'm pretty sure" to emphasize the conjecture in my post. From what I've read, yes the MyTouch can outperform in some tests, however, I have yet to come across anyone claiming that the MyTouch's processor outperforms the Nexus S to the degree that you claim.
I personally would wait for dual core devices myself.
Ya I have to agree with copius in this one, buying dual core now is waste of money as only thing you will win is bragging rights lol but still higher clock frequency so its your call. MT4G 4GB ROM (1.1GB actual) with 2nd gen Snapdragon MSM8255 + Adreno 205 GPU is enough for the MT4G for decent use for another 1-2years by application standard and memory extended service.
But TBH if I was you I would wait 1year to get dual core as I don't trust POS company other than HTC. When HTC drops dual core thats when you know its serious biz lol forget Samsung forget Moto, LG and all. Who controls and dominates the smartphone (new buzz now "superphone") world? Last I checked most flashship device on carriers were still HTC. If you need device now go with MT4G and if you like what you see when CES2011 device hits then drop that on eBay/CL and sell it.

Let me put it this way I got MT4G just 2weeks ago due to my HD2 being stolen. When I was shopping for phones my top 2 pick was MT4G/DHD and NS did not even come in the map. Ill tell you why first of all NS is inferior in hardware capabilities in post 2k10/2k11 spec. Only thing it has going for itself is slightly better GPU and display which does not say much to anyone unless you are trying to win some paper spec war. Due to how memory is allocated and proc is computed MT4G comes superior, how do I know this? I did extended research. Look up my old username and do forum search as it will yield result. Biggest flaw of NS is its made by Samsung which has super history of being a joker vendor in mobile market for not providing anything to users. Also Google have for some silly reason took unofficial stand on NS hardware which is post mid 2010. Don't give me that NS will get updated before blah blah who cares? Thats why we are here on XDA thanks to the dev's. I can go on and on and rip apart the total spec as I did last month why NS is not to be considered any serious match as its just a mockup device on carriers lineup thats all. But hey man go get what you like lol I have yet to see any kid IRL who has ever won a debate with me. If NS was good people would be using it and my sig would say NS not MT4G.

(I know this is a rather flaw way to compare performance) The myTouch scores better on Quadrant in terms of just every category (exception being GPU) with a skin on top of it and an earlier version of Android. When it gets Gingerbread, it will run circles around the Nexus S. Than again, we are comparing first generation (Hummingbird) to second generation (Snapdragon).
Back on topic, wait for dual cores to come and than do a comparison.

Thats what I was trying to tell him but then again whos fault is that Google picked Samsung jokery for NS's hardware? Hence why TMo was looking in to "Project Emerald" half year ago and picked device based on standards of today. Simply Google has always taken stance on that type of post mid 2010 hardware you would think they would have something to kick it to promote but on top of that they took out mSD lol comedians... I just wish luck to whoever owns NS good luck with Google/Samsung you will need it for whats coming to you specially the Vibrant 4G users who thinks its diff from regular Vibrant lol man o man Samsung sure knows how to get away with BS.

The second generation snapdragon chips are crazy fast, I was playing around with the G2 and it made my Nexus look slow. I really want to see a stock Android with the MSM 8255, the ones with skins on top of them (myTouch 4G, HTC Desire HD, Sony Xperia Arc) are already quick and responsive. Really want to see what they will do with dual core even though GPU might not be the best.
I would have to say that Samsung wins in screen technology though even if using whites kind of suck your battery dry.
I have never really owned a Samsung product of any kind. Don't play on getting on in the future.
Hello new user here I was searching in yahoo and came across this forum. I myself own google's nexus s and my girlfriend just recivered her mytouch 4g last week. I had chance to compare both of the device and I can tell you STHNS and canadariot2312 is correct. I am trying to now sell nexus s on craigslist and trying to get mytouch 4g as I am very impressed with it though even lower price by joining my girlfriends plan.
You should definitely keep up with your account here and read a lot of the information here. Right off the bat, I can tell you that this forum breathes life into devices that are a couple years old, unlocks performance and features on new devices such as making your phone a wifi router and blocking ads and they even put operating systems on phones that don't normally belong there.

Buy a used MT4G from Craigslist, love it for 3-6 months, then sell it for exactly what you paid for it and go get a dual-core phone.
I bought my mt3g almost a year ago for $200 and sold it about 3 months ago for the same price. I'm wishing I'd bought my MT4G off contract, but whatever, I'm happy now.

I agree. Especially with a custom ROM the MT4G is so blazing fast I can't even think of wtf you'd need more speed for. I don't even have SetCPU installed. This thing is so stupidly fast I honestly don't see the point.
Why the rest of you are overclocking this thing is completely beyond me.

California is 30 days to return your phone AND REVERSE YOUR UPGRADE. The rest of the country is 14 I think.

Right off the bat, I can tell you that this forum breathes life into devices that are a couple years old, unlocks performance and features on new devices such as making your phone a wifi router and blocking ads and they even put operating systems on phones that don't normally belong there.

My brother in law asked me to work on his Mytouch 4G. I permanently rooted it, installed a custom rom, over-clocked it to 1.4GHZ (It can go up to 1.7). Now his phone doesn't have junk software, it looks amazing, is blazing fast and he can even play Playstation games on it.

This is very true. The reason I learned about rooting in the first place is because my MT3G (also a 32b device) was painfully slow and I wanted to run Navi and Pandora simultaneously. OEM 2.2.1 + ezterry's 614 kernel with the new radio and spl (14mb additional ram) and SetCPU 528-614 on-demand made it a great daily driver!
But after using my MT4G for one day I couldn't even stand the MT3G anymore.
As I said above - BUY AN MT4G ON CL FOR $300 THEN SELL IT 3 MONTHS LATER FOR $300 if you really want a dual-core phone. Absolutely no loss.
I think i will get a G2. I'll wait for dual core if money is not important.
It's basically an InFuSe with a dual-core 1.2 instead of single-core 1.2.
Who the hell is T-Mobile f*ckin to get all these bad @ss fones lately???Samsung Hercules Headed to T-Mobile this September?
If the latest reports are accurate we might be seeing the Samsung Hercules land over on T-Mobile this September. If the HTC Sensation or the recently troubled G2x dual-core phones aren’t what you desire maybe the Hercules will be, it has great specs to back it up.

In case you haven’t heard the Samsung Hercules could very well be the Galaxy S II variant for T-Mobile, with a boosted screen size hitting 4.5″ and looking beautiful with that AMOLED display. We haven’t seen much of Hercules as of late but he could have recently passed through the FCC.
The Samsung Hercules specs if to be believed feature that 4.5″ AMOLED display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread with NFC support. Reports suggesting a Qualcomm 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 16GB storage and 1GB RAM, loaded with a 8MP rear camera as well as a front VGA all topped off with some T-Mobile 4G speeds. Sounds perfect if I don’t say so myself. With recent reports about carriers and Samsung not able to agree to a Galaxy S II launch the Hercules will just have to make do, but I’m not complaining.

well..... thats electronics for ya, by the time you buy it your already looking at the next best thing. I kinda knew that samsung would throw out a dual core phone but I really didnt care, after having the atrix it proved it to me. The infuse is far far far from the "shyt" end of the stick, I still love mine and I have absolutely never went, "man I wish this was faster". Its perfect for me, but thanks for the info
I fail to see how we got the "shyt" end of the stick.
One, this is all rumor with little validity to back it up.
Two, there is more evidence that the Samsung Galaxy II is facing a large amount of hardship coming to the states due to there being:
- A plethora of "flagship" dual core phones on the providors (Atrix, Sensation/G2X, Droid 3/Bionic)
- It is a VERY LARGE subsidization compared to past cellphones
- Samsung themselves have come clean that they ar facing opposition from providors.
And lastly, welcome to technology. The Infuse came out May 15 which means from now to September that's 5-6 months depending on when it is actually released. 6 months is over a year in technology, especially when there were ALREADY dual core phones on the market when the Infuse 4G came out.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree.. I knew there would be newer handsets dropping soon, but the Infuse does what I need it to do..
I do not have an Infuse but was looking at the display model at AT&T yesterday. The crisp, deep colors and the sharpness of the display is stunningly amazing. The best display I have personally ever seen on a phone without a doubt. That said, I no longer am buying into thinking that dual core is better. Why?
I recently sold my Asus Transformer which I am sure you are all somewhat familiar with the specs. Although it is an impressive device with an incredible display, it could not play 1080p content for crap! My Samsung Galaxy Tab (single core OC'd to 1.2 currently) plays my ripped blu-rays like a champ! No lag or jitter whatsoever.
I did not intend to hijack your thread with information about tabs, but I believe they use the same processors as the phones so what I posted I think is relevant.
If the phone you have or want does what you need it to do, then don't worry about what's coming out next month and don't feel hosed.
The Asus did not do what I needed it to do, but that is not why I got rid of it. I prefer the 7" form factor.

Video playback is not about the CPU on mobile devices, it's about the GPU. Anything that falls back on the CPU to do work is going to perform poorly. For media supported by a GPU, the CPU does almost no work at all.
It happens that the GPU of Samsung Hummingbirds has some very impressive features (one of the only devices I know of to support H.264 Main Profile and I think even High Profile) which make it awesome for media.
Nvidia apparently focused on 3D with the Tegra and not so much on media, so they, like iDevices, only support H.264 Baseline Profile.

I always wondered about doing this as well.
When you underclock the processor there is less battery drain, and less heat than when it's running @ 1.2ghz right?
People have said that the Infuses heat causes the screen to shut down the brightness which this would help with right?
I know the iPhone 4 has a 1ghz processor that is underclocked to 800mghz as well and it gets fantastic battery life.

Yes. It does. It reduces the heat generated when running at lower speeds. But pushing to too low levels increases the amount of time CPU spends at 100% and causing more heat.
After some experimenting, I found 800 to be a safe bet.
The Infuse will be severely obsolete long before it's time for most people to upgrade.
It's certainly not a good investment.

Real question: Why isn't the Infuse as popular as the HTC HD2? Hell even two years after it came out they just ported over WP7 and Mango
Seems to me like the best phone on Att so why are there so few people/developers getting it?

This particular topic was covered in MULTIPLE threads already. The reason development has slowed down is due to Gingerbread not being available yet. The devs don't see a reason to develop further at this point, only to have to redo everything once Gingerbread is available. Once Gingerbread is released for Infuse in Canada (which should be soon), I'm sure you will see plenty of development for this phone. Be patient.

Pretty much everyone phone will be obsolete by time you're ready to upgrade. There really isn't a way to win with phones, there will always be something better coming out shortly after you get any phone. It's best to just pick the best phone that is currently out and just stick with it; there is no point in beating yourself up about getting a ****ty phone when even if you were to wait and get a different phone, that too would be outdated within a few months.
Sometimes you just need to pull the trigger and grab something, otherwise you'll never get anything.
When I was looking to upgrade my poor little LG shine (yes, stoopid phone) I researched and researched until my eyes bled. I bounced about 100 times between devices until I finally just went to a friend of mine's store and played with the Droid X. Sure, at the time there were better options out there, but for whatever reason, the phone just felt right to me.
The same thing goes for this Infuse that I have for work. I just got it on Friday and I know that there are faster phones already out and there will always be new phones coming out that makes any tech savvy person positively drool at the prospect of playing with it. As the post above me says, you just have to grab a device and go with it, and that's true; oh so true. You can get so wrapped up in looking at specs and reading about the new hotness, but in the end, you will wind up so conflicted with yourself that you can't make an honest choice about what you want.
Then again, who knows. I'm not your typical modder. I rooted the phone within the first ten minutes of having it, and I flashed my first ROM to it this morning. I'm the type of modder that doesn't feel the need to go grab the latest and greatest as long as I've found my "phone bliss" at the moment.
Main thing you need to take away from this thread- Technology is forever changing and buying any piece of technology isn't about nabbing the latest and greatest piece of hardware. The smart buyers grab what they know/think will last and can be tweaked to keep up with new software and uses for some time. Hell, I've got an HTC Eris on my desk at work that I know is OLD, but it's still a valid little phone and can keep up with most other phones of it kind.
Just buy what you like and don't get so wrapped up about what tomorrow will bring.

Ha, I upgraded from an LG Shine to my current phone (Infuse). You have to admit though, the Shine wasn't a bad little phone ... I had it for about 3 years. But I'll tell you, going to the Infuse was a HUGE upgrade!
With that being said, I'll be perfectly happy with my Infuse until it's time to upgrade again. I definitely don't feel I got the "shyt" end of the stick.
Need an AT&T LTE device and its either this or the Note. I was going for the SkyRocket HD but it seems it might have been axed. Should have been released by now. Is this phone still hot? I'd at least wait until next weekend (4/22). Looks like AT&T will be releasing a few phones (like HTC One X). T-Mobile is also supposed to be getting its G-Nexus on the same day... hoping this means AT&T will be getting skyrocket HD (its version of the G-Nexus). I've been holing out for the Skyrocket HD too. The lack of info. is very frustrating.
Here are some random thoughts as I'm writing this:
- Would have already bought Galaxy Note, but damn that thing is so big. Sitting at home, I'm like yeah, I should get it. Run by the local AT&T, and look at in person again, I'm like, Jesus, can't even work it with one hand.
- Latest rumor of April 22nd release for HTC One X... wow, pretty phone, nice specs. Wait, only 16GB internal storage & NO micro sdcard support... WTF!!! Really??? Well with 8gb of music and a least 1 or 2 nandroid backups at any given time, that's a no go... shame, b/c I would have got it.
- Galaxy SIII... yeah, sure, no brainer... stupid U.S. carriers, you know that they won't be releasing till November, like last year; even if it's released worldwide this summer... sorry, but I'm not waiting another 6 months.
- Skyrocket HD.... umm perfect, scren size = 4.65 = big, but still able to handle with one hand. HD screen, nice specs, I want it! WHEN THE ARE YOU RELEASING IT AT&T?!?!?!

Supposedly ATT gets the Galaxy Nexus soon. Have not seen any indication on how soon.
The HTC One X comes out this or next month. It's a great alternative to the Skyrocket. I would still choose the Skyrocket over it though, based on personal preferences. Would be a close decision though.
If it were me, I'd wait four weeks to see what will be released. If the Skyrocket HD gets released, then I'd choose that one. Then the Galaxy Nexus, then One X.
No sense waiting for the SG III because even if it's released next month by Samsung, you won't see it available from ATT until October/November/December time frame.
If you like theming and custom ROM's then know that it always takes several weeks after a phone's release before you get anything decent. Maybe a month or two before you get a nice kernel.
Same for cases and accessories. Though these come a bit quicker.

See, I haven't seen any reports on AT&T getting a G-Nexus. From everything I've read or seen, the Skyrocket HD is supposed to be AT&T's version of the G-Nexus... screen size being the same and all as that of the G-Nexus.
If it were in fact true that AT&T is getting a G-Nexus (which I'm not saying it is or isn't), then that would be really cool, since the Nexus line always gets the latest updates, little to no bloatware, etc.
Like I said a above, T-Mobile is supposed to be releasing their version of the G-Nexus next weekend (4/22).... hoping that AT&T will release something else to compete with it, other than the HTC One X; which isn't a bad one in and of itself... I just can see the reasoning for not allowing a micro-sdcard????
If you need a phone now, the skyrocket is great. The note is to big and I suspect for me at least the HD version may be to big.
I havent had any issues with the Skyrocket and the development is very active if you don't want to wait for Samsung to roll out ICS.
Just my .02 worth.

Yeah, who knows. There is no official confirmation. Just rumors from people "high up" or something I guess.
http://easternmorningherald.com/att-may-possibly-release-galaxy-nexus-variant/123917/
If ATT does release a Nexus and it has 1.5ghz procs and 32gb internal, I would get it over the Skyrocket.
You can keep chasing that next-greatest-newest phone release all year, but the Skyrocket will still kick ass. A month after you buy whatever you choose, something newer and different will be out anyways.
Development has only recently begun to pick up steam on the Skyrocket, but things are blowing up in a big way right now. CM9 rumored to be coming soon, and other aosp goodness, if you care about that sort of thing.
I'd wait maybe a couple weeks longer to see if AT&T is really going to release the Skyrocket HD. If not and you buy the current version of the Skyrocket then you'll still have a 30-day window to exchange it for something different (minus a small re-stocking fee).
Oh, and I think the Note looks like a lot of fun--I might get one just to toy around with actually--but that device is just too damn big to be a phone for daily use (for me, at any rate,)...
I was seriously debating a brand new Skyrocket for $200 vs. the $100 Vivid and $100 LG Nitro HD a few weeks back (2 year contract costs) and was struggling with the pros/cons. For me it was relative value for the money plus custom ROM support, etc.
ATT had a refurbed sale that made up my mind for me. I picked up one of the Skyrocket refurbs just a couple of weeks ago for $20. I don't think I'd be able to do anything close for the other up and coming phones that might be interest to me.
If you're talking a new price of $200 for a Skyrocket vs $300 for a HTC One X or the Note or whatever else then I'd say I'd have to think long and hard about it.
skyrocket
i have had the skyrocket sense December and its a nice phone there are some issues with it of course(all phones have some issues). the two biggest that annoyed me are the checker-boarding on stock browser (using dolphin hd and liking that browser right now). then there is Bluetooth issue where u can't make the call from the bt. u can use one just not start it from the bt. now i don't know if the note has the same issues i have not looked into it. i have talked to alot of pp that have the note and they all say the phone is not to big after using it for about three weeks ur mostly used to it. the reason i wouldn't get the note myself is the lack of side holster. i can't put my phone in the pocket i carry to many other things in there for work. the note has cases that fit it but i have yet to see a side holster big enough to fit it(hell the skyrocket barely fits most side holsters. i personally would wait about three weeks and see whats comeing out then if u have the ability to wait now that is only if u want the top of the line. more phones come out all the time and the skyrocket will have a better phone come out this year but if u can't wait and u don't mind that ur phone is going to be outdated soon i would personally get the skyrocket.
I too have been waiting for any concrete info on the Skyrocket HD. I only set my sights on that after waiting the past months hoping to hear the Galaxy Nexus would be on AT&T. Once they announced the Skyrocket would have the same screen as the Nexus I figured there would be no way they would bring the Nexus to AT&T.
Course then again if the HD ever does show up they will have 4 phones with almost identical internals, why not add a fifth?
My Sky
I an very happy with skyrocket, plus the custom ICS roms are really starting to pick up a lot of steam.
After playing with the Note at the store I can honestly say that I don't want a device like that. It's freakishly too big. After playing with the SR in the store, I can say that it is the perfect size but I would be open to a small increase. I am coming from an iphone 4s and getting more sick of it each day.
I had a phone with a 5 inch screen (Dell Streak) and it was just too big, IMO, for everyday use. The SkyRocket is a good size for me.
I got the SR refurbished for $20 and really like it.
There is always a new better option that will be out soon.
Another thing to consider is the OS. I'm pretty sure the Skyrocket HD will be Gingerbread (unless this delay is due to them trying to put ICS on it), whereas the One X will ship w/ ICS. You would probably be happy w/ Gingerbread, but there are those who have to have the latest software.
I've got the Skyrocket, Vivid, and my trusty Atrix. The Skyrocket is my favorite out of them. My ONLY complaint is the AMOLED screen and the slight "ghosting" you get with the lines. The Vivid is just clunky and heavy, can't stand the stock UI and has been my least liked Android device, but the screen is amazing. And of course the Atrix that's always fun to use for a few days just to change the pace
Honestly if I were in your shoes I'd wait for the Skyrocket HD. But if you can wait you could try Costco for a cheaper price if you're in the US, scored my Atrix there for $.01 (on contract of course) a month after release. And they don't eff you over with that "charge you tax on the full price of the phone" BS either.
Hey guys, I just sold my LTE Note and now I need to decide what my next phone is going to be. I have narrowed it down to the HTC One X and the GSM Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
I'm leaning towards the One X, but I know it has the locked bootloader so I am skeptical. I also see some people talking about problems with multitasking.
What are some opinions on the HTC One X? Is the AT&T version going to get good dev support? Anybody move from a GSM Nexus to the One X and regret it? Should I just get an international version for the better processor and unlockable bootloader?
one x, better screen, battery life, camera. just use apex launcher until we get bootloader unlock and cm9. theres a bunch of mods out there too, you can swap the multitask button with menu and long press home becomes multitask, my favorite
Thatg is correct.
International version doesn't have the better processor. More doesn't always equal better.

AT&T One X user here. Hardware is fantastic; software is buggy. I ordered a Gnex from the play store and it is arriving today. Assuming that wifi and push email work properly on the Gnex, I will be keeping it and return the One X.
If somehow wifi and push email are as bad on the Gnex as they are on the One X, then I will return the Gnex.

Sorry i'd probably go with the Gnex -The Multitasking thing makes my skin crawl - I could go with Apple's way of doing oppose to HTC's version - 2 step forward 3 steps back. I'm considering the Samsung Note - why did you sale yours?

Lots of people have also reported problems with the update, plus you can't revert back, which might make it difficult to return the phone. Gotta wait for the official but hopefully it will be out before my 30 days are up.

I'm returning the GNex today but am a little sad to see it go. I bought the nexus as soon as it hit the Play Store but for all it has going for it, the HTC is better where it really counts.
On the Nexus the UI is really smooth and I like the look of stock ICS. But I've had radio issues and the speed on AT&T is so much faster on the HOX and I'm not in an LTE area. Add in the better screen (way way better in sunlight and no fringing from Pentile) better camera, louder and clearer speakerphone, and you have a great phone that works very well.
Of course everyone has their own opinion and needs. For me this is finally the one that got me off the Apple cart.
(seriously the HSPA+ Nexus got around 4-6 down and the HOX gets up to 11+ (10 consistently with 4 bars at my office.) Plus AT&T will only give you 3G unless you give them a bogus IMEI since the Nexus is unlocked.)

the LTE version has this mod now??..i thought they couldn't do the long press home?
Thanks for the reply's guys. It's looking more and more like it will be One X. Now I just gotta wait for paypal to release my cash and I'll be hitting amazon up immediately.
If anyone has any further opinions please share them.
i came from the Gnex using it since it came out. One X is just plain better.
I've had the gnex for a few months now and just purchased the HOX. Trying to decide which one to keep. I unfortunately don't live in an lte market so that's really not an issue at this point.
They both have their pros and cons but the one thing I can't seem to get past is the screen on the HOX...it's awesome! For me that might ultimately be the deciding factor.

lol my GNex was doing good if it got 4 down. on AT&T LTE here i get 20 down easy. just kills the GNex when it comes to network speed. this is also faster than Verizon's LTE network here in Charlotte.
but yeah, as others have said, better camera and better screen. then throw in a better SoC and i don't see why you'd want a GNex. the only thing i miss about my GNex is it felt better in my hand and i loved having the sleep/wake button on the side versus the top. i'm a leftly and having it placed there had me handling the phone more with my right hand just because it was so easy to turn on and not have to re-adjust my hand. always have to re-adjust with the HOX no matter which hand i'm using. if the bootloader ever gets unlocked and we have s-off, though, wake can be re-mapped to the volume rocker which would make this tiny complaint non-existent.
Crew, I hope I am not hijacking this thread but....
I still use the HTC HD2 running WinMo 6.5. I don't want to own an apple product and I am a bit leary of the Win7 platform. Have not met an unhappy Android user and so I am leaning toward the HOX (ATT).
Though I tricked out my HD2 it has been a while and I am sure there is some learning curve to tricking out a new HOX. I've read about some drawbacks but some seasoned users seem to play them down.
I use my phone primarily for business and my current homescreen gives me weather, msg icons (vm, txt, missed calls, email), a multi day agenda for my calendar, a number of favorite caller buttons, all of my most used programs. This set up allows me to work 90% of what I do right off the home screen without going to a 2nd level screen or 3rd level screen. I want to be sure I can do this with ICS
Also, I was looking at another droid forum and it seems to show that the dpi's could be easily adjusted and same with processor....maybe it was the HP tablet. Are these things people are doing with the HOX?
I'm also voting for the One X , it's by no means the perfect phone, but I got my gnex the day it came out on Verizon and also got my HOX the day it came out and the One X is a superior device in every way except for MT but that should be fixed with a software update.

Exactly what I wanted to say. Only thing I miss on gnex is the ergonomics. It felt much better holding it while in use. Other than that (well maybe vanilla ics, but will eventually happen with hox), I prefer hox. Hope this helps.

I was just curious if anyone knew or has a link that would show how the relay has sold (units) worldwide? Especially versus other phones. I ask this because my hunch is that initially sales were slow for this phone, but I'm willing to bet sales have doubled or tripled since being offered to other countries.

This is the kind of data you never get... Manufacturers are more interested in doing curved-screen phones that nobody wants than having a single qwerty model.
I'm in Europe, where there haven't been new qwerty models for 2-3 years now, and I get people asking my about my phone all the time. There is a market, manufacturers just don't care...

This. A 100x this. I'm still rocking my Epic 4G for now, and I still get people asking me about my phone, what is it, where I got it from, etc. And I'm talking both here in the US and in Mexico. There is a market for it. I think the manufacturers, instead of listening to what consumers want, are trying to steer consumers in a certain direction. But if there was a keyboard version of the Galaxy S4 or Note 3 (and not some crappy bluetooth addon), I'd figure out a way to buy it asap, and so would a lot of other people.
But to answer the thread, that's a good question and something I've been wondering myself. This seems like a great mid-range phone.
I just got mine for $160 new on ebay, so I'm guessing the demand for the phone wasn't as big as they were hoping (it came in a sketchy opened Samsung box with no manual so it may actually be a refurb but still I'd say it should be selling for more than that since it's not that old). Kind of depressing because so far it seems like a really nice phone, aside from all the bloatware it comes with stock. Just really irritating how all the new phones coming out are pretty much all the same - thin touchscreen only phones with slightly varying sizes and specs.

I'm in the market for a new phone and sadly I feel as though my QWERTY reign may come to an end. I've owned just about every gsm qwerty phone over the past 3 years and there's absolutely nothing to choose from anymore.

I feel your pain. I've come to the conclusion that the Relay 4G may be the last qwerty phone I ever get myself. The only thing that can be done now is to develop a decent bluetooth keyboard/case, similar to what is available for the Galaxy S4.

QWERTY isn't completely dead yet... T-Mobile is now offering LG's F3Q. That being said, I'd love to see a true high-end QWERTY, but I'm not holding my breath.
I saw that, but its got almost the same specs as the relay, droid 4, and the photon q. ?

Yeah I doubt we'll ever get a keyboard phone as powerful as an S4 or Note 3. That's why I think the answer is to make bluetooth keyboard peripherals. Though at least mid-range (i.e. affordable) keyboard phones aren't completely going away. I'm guessing the LG F3Q will be the new standard barer for [GSM] keyboard phones.

It has a huge battery. specs look great. What most people don't realize is the specs have far exceeded our needs for some time now. So even a "basic" dual core is more than you'll ever need

I have the non-QWERTY F3, and the battery is amazing indeed. Even if I use the phone fairly heavily, it's rare for me to see the battery below 50% at the end of the day, and I often see it over 75%. It puts the lie to the whole "we can't put a big enough battery in it and make it replaceable" schtick that we keep getting from the likes of Motorola and Apple. I will not buy a phone with a non-replaceable battery.
The only real negative for the F3 is that it has very limited internal flash, but it does at least have a MicroSD slot. Some apps can be moved to the SD card, but others have the "Move to SD" button grayed out. My guess is that apps that (may) run services at startup can't be moved.

actually, the only thing i really dislike and would like to improve in relay is the terrible screen resolution. still, it was not enough to convince me to buy galaxy s4 with this keyboard
i wonder why samsung did not make a decent bluetooth/nfc keyboard for galaxy s4. many people would buy it and buy s4 - double profit at half cost
lg f3q - apart from the battery, specs are not really an improvement from samsung relay and the same terrible screen resolution. unimpressive

Actually there are improvements, just not as obvious ones.
The F3Q compared to the Relay has:
Bigger battery
Physically smaller size (even though screen is the same size)
Better graphics
Bluetooth 4.0
Better camera (supports 1080p)
Newer generation processor
Dual band wifi
And of course newer and shinier
These are all small differences alone, but they add up to a decent upgrade.

1080p is a big deal. I can't find anything about internal memory, though, but I would assume its at least the same as the Relay 4G.
Like I said, this may be the new standard barer for keyboard cell phones. Just wish it came in black.

cpu&gpu - i do not have enough data to directly compare msm8260a (relay) to msm8930 (f3g ? ). still, without bigger resolution the improvement may be difficult to notice. lower energy consumption maybe?
camera - i do not really care
bluetooth, wifi and battery are an improvement, but with the appalling 480x800 not enough to encourage me to upgrade.
improvement, yes, but still not impressive.
We're supporting Bluetooth 4.0 and upgraded wifi on CyanogenMod. The only thing that in my mind stands out about the F3Q is the better gpu, not for performance's sake (at 480x800 it's not gonna make much of a difference) but the fact that qcom is barely supporting the old gpu anymore (the drivers we're using on CyanogenMod are 9 months old, badly outdated)
The other thing is the F3Q is reputed to only have 1 gig of free internal storage (as opposed to 5 gigs on the Relay)
