One X or GSM Galaxy Nexus? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey guys, I just sold my LTE Note and now I need to decide what my next phone is going to be. I have narrowed it down to the HTC One X and the GSM Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
I'm leaning towards the One X, but I know it has the locked bootloader so I am skeptical. I also see some people talking about problems with multitasking.
What are some opinions on the HTC One X? Is the AT&T version going to get good dev support? Anybody move from a GSM Nexus to the One X and regret it? Should I just get an international version for the better processor and unlockable bootloader?

one x, better screen, battery life, camera. just use apex launcher until we get bootloader unlock and cm9. theres a bunch of mods out there too, you can swap the multitask button with menu and long press home becomes multitask, my favorite

Thatg is correct.

International version doesn't have the better processor. More doesn't always equal better.

AT&T One X user here. Hardware is fantastic; software is buggy. I ordered a Gnex from the play store and it is arriving today. Assuming that wifi and push email work properly on the Gnex, I will be keeping it and return the One X.
If somehow wifi and push email are as bad on the Gnex as they are on the One X, then I will return the Gnex.

Sorry i'd probably go with the Gnex -The Multitasking thing makes my skin crawl - I could go with Apple's way of doing oppose to HTC's version - 2 step forward 3 steps back. I'm considering the Samsung Note - why did you sale yours?

Lots of people have also reported problems with the update, plus you can't revert back, which might make it difficult to return the phone. Gotta wait for the official but hopefully it will be out before my 30 days are up.

I'm returning the GNex today but am a little sad to see it go. I bought the nexus as soon as it hit the Play Store but for all it has going for it, the HTC is better where it really counts.
On the Nexus the UI is really smooth and I like the look of stock ICS. But I've had radio issues and the speed on AT&T is so much faster on the HOX and I'm not in an LTE area. Add in the better screen (way way better in sunlight and no fringing from Pentile) better camera, louder and clearer speakerphone, and you have a great phone that works very well.
Of course everyone has their own opinion and needs. For me this is finally the one that got me off the Apple cart.
(seriously the HSPA+ Nexus got around 4-6 down and the HOX gets up to 11+ (10 consistently with 4 bars at my office.) Plus AT&T will only give you 3G unless you give them a bogus IMEI since the Nexus is unlocked.)

the LTE version has this mod now??..i thought they couldn't do the long press home?

Thanks for the reply's guys. It's looking more and more like it will be One X. Now I just gotta wait for paypal to release my cash and I'll be hitting amazon up immediately.
If anyone has any further opinions please share them.

i came from the Gnex using it since it came out. One X is just plain better.

I've had the gnex for a few months now and just purchased the HOX. Trying to decide which one to keep. I unfortunately don't live in an lte market so that's really not an issue at this point.
They both have their pros and cons but the one thing I can't seem to get past is the screen on the HOX...it's awesome! For me that might ultimately be the deciding factor.

lol my GNex was doing good if it got 4 down. on AT&T LTE here i get 20 down easy. just kills the GNex when it comes to network speed. this is also faster than Verizon's LTE network here in Charlotte.
but yeah, as others have said, better camera and better screen. then throw in a better SoC and i don't see why you'd want a GNex. the only thing i miss about my GNex is it felt better in my hand and i loved having the sleep/wake button on the side versus the top. i'm a leftly and having it placed there had me handling the phone more with my right hand just because it was so easy to turn on and not have to re-adjust my hand. always have to re-adjust with the HOX no matter which hand i'm using. if the bootloader ever gets unlocked and we have s-off, though, wake can be re-mapped to the volume rocker which would make this tiny complaint non-existent.

Crew, I hope I am not hijacking this thread but....
I still use the HTC HD2 running WinMo 6.5. I don't want to own an apple product and I am a bit leary of the Win7 platform. Have not met an unhappy Android user and so I am leaning toward the HOX (ATT).
Though I tricked out my HD2 it has been a while and I am sure there is some learning curve to tricking out a new HOX. I've read about some drawbacks but some seasoned users seem to play them down.
I use my phone primarily for business and my current homescreen gives me weather, msg icons (vm, txt, missed calls, email), a multi day agenda for my calendar, a number of favorite caller buttons, all of my most used programs. This set up allows me to work 90% of what I do right off the home screen without going to a 2nd level screen or 3rd level screen. I want to be sure I can do this with ICS
Also, I was looking at another droid forum and it seems to show that the dpi's could be easily adjusted and same with processor....maybe it was the HP tablet. Are these things people are doing with the HOX?

I'm also voting for the One X , it's by no means the perfect phone, but I got my gnex the day it came out on Verizon and also got my HOX the day it came out and the One X is a superior device in every way except for MT but that should be fixed with a software update.

Exactly what I wanted to say. Only thing I miss on gnex is the ergonomics. It felt much better holding it while in use. Other than that (well maybe vanilla ics, but will eventually happen with hox), I prefer hox. Hope this helps.

Is this SkyRocket still worth it? April 2012?

Need an AT&T LTE device and its either this or the Note. I was going for the SkyRocket HD but it seems it might have been axed. Should have been released by now. Is this phone still hot? I had the Original Galaxy S II but decided I wanted LTE and a bigger display. Pros and cons of buying this phone?

I'd at least wait until next weekend (4/22). Looks like AT&T will be releasing a few phones (like HTC One X). T-Mobile is also supposed to be getting its G-Nexus on the same day... hoping this means AT&T will be getting skyrocket HD (its version of the G-Nexus). I've been holing out for the Skyrocket HD too. The lack of info. is very frustrating.
Here are some random thoughts as I'm writing this:
- Would have already bought Galaxy Note, but damn that thing is so big. Sitting at home, I'm like yeah, I should get it. Run by the local AT&T, and look at in person again, I'm like, Jesus, can't even work it with one hand.
- Latest rumor of April 22nd release for HTC One X... wow, pretty phone, nice specs. Wait, only 16GB internal storage & NO micro sdcard support... WTF!!! Really??? Well with 8gb of music and a least 1 or 2 nandroid backups at any given time, that's a no go... shame, b/c I would have got it.
- Galaxy SIII... yeah, sure, no brainer... stupid U.S. carriers, you know that they won't be releasing till November, like last year; even if it's released worldwide this summer... sorry, but I'm not waiting another 6 months.
- Skyrocket HD.... umm perfect, scren size = 4.65 = big, but still able to handle with one hand. HD screen, nice specs, I want it! WHEN THE ARE YOU RELEASING IT AT&T?!?!?!

Skyrocket is the best.
HD one will just eat up battery more and same thing anyway.
Note is to be to be a phone, get it only if you wanna be cool, new Iphone 5 will be just like the Note.
But by the specs. Skyroket is the best

Supposedly ATT gets the Galaxy Nexus soon. Have not seen any indication on how soon.
The HTC One X comes out this or next month. It's a great alternative to the Skyrocket. I would still choose the Skyrocket over it though, based on personal preferences. Would be a close decision though.
If it were me, I'd wait four weeks to see what will be released. If the Skyrocket HD gets released, then I'd choose that one. Then the Galaxy Nexus, then One X.
No sense waiting for the SG III because even if it's released next month by Samsung, you won't see it available from ATT until October/November/December time frame.
If you like theming and custom ROM's then know that it always takes several weeks after a phone's release before you get anything decent. Maybe a month or two before you get a nice kernel.
Same for cases and accessories. Though these come a bit quicker.

See, I haven't seen any reports on AT&T getting a G-Nexus. From everything I've read or seen, the Skyrocket HD is supposed to be AT&T's version of the G-Nexus... screen size being the same and all as that of the G-Nexus.
If it were in fact true that AT&T is getting a G-Nexus (which I'm not saying it is or isn't), then that would be really cool, since the Nexus line always gets the latest updates, little to no bloatware, etc.
Like I said a above, T-Mobile is supposed to be releasing their version of the G-Nexus next weekend (4/22).... hoping that AT&T will release something else to compete with it, other than the HTC One X; which isn't a bad one in and of itself... I just can see the reasoning for not allowing a micro-sdcard????
If you need a phone now, the skyrocket is great. The note is to big and I suspect for me at least the HD version may be to big.
I havent had any issues with the Skyrocket and the development is very active if you don't want to wait for Samsung to roll out ICS.
Just my .02 worth.

Yeah, who knows. There is no official confirmation. Just rumors from people "high up" or something I guess.
http://easternmorningherald.com/att-may-possibly-release-galaxy-nexus-variant/123917/
If ATT does release a Nexus and it has 1.5ghz procs and 32gb internal, I would get it over the Skyrocket.
You can keep chasing that next-greatest-newest phone release all year, but the Skyrocket will still kick ass. A month after you buy whatever you choose, something newer and different will be out anyways.
Development has only recently begun to pick up steam on the Skyrocket, but things are blowing up in a big way right now. CM9 rumored to be coming soon, and other aosp goodness, if you care about that sort of thing.
I'd wait maybe a couple weeks longer to see if AT&T is really going to release the Skyrocket HD. If not and you buy the current version of the Skyrocket then you'll still have a 30-day window to exchange it for something different (minus a small re-stocking fee).
Oh, and I think the Note looks like a lot of fun--I might get one just to toy around with actually--but that device is just too damn big to be a phone for daily use (for me, at any rate,)...
I was seriously debating a brand new Skyrocket for $200 vs. the $100 Vivid and $100 LG Nitro HD a few weeks back (2 year contract costs) and was struggling with the pros/cons. For me it was relative value for the money plus custom ROM support, etc.
ATT had a refurbed sale that made up my mind for me. I picked up one of the Skyrocket refurbs just a couple of weeks ago for $20. I don't think I'd be able to do anything close for the other up and coming phones that might be interest to me.
If you're talking a new price of $200 for a Skyrocket vs $300 for a HTC One X or the Note or whatever else then I'd say I'd have to think long and hard about it.
skyrocket
i have had the skyrocket sense December and its a nice phone there are some issues with it of course(all phones have some issues). the two biggest that annoyed me are the checker-boarding on stock browser (using dolphin hd and liking that browser right now). then there is Bluetooth issue where u can't make the call from the bt. u can use one just not start it from the bt. now i don't know if the note has the same issues i have not looked into it. i have talked to alot of pp that have the note and they all say the phone is not to big after using it for about three weeks ur mostly used to it. the reason i wouldn't get the note myself is the lack of side holster. i can't put my phone in the pocket i carry to many other things in there for work. the note has cases that fit it but i have yet to see a side holster big enough to fit it(hell the skyrocket barely fits most side holsters. i personally would wait about three weeks and see whats comeing out then if u have the ability to wait now that is only if u want the top of the line. more phones come out all the time and the skyrocket will have a better phone come out this year but if u can't wait and u don't mind that ur phone is going to be outdated soon i would personally get the skyrocket.
I too have been waiting for any concrete info on the Skyrocket HD. I only set my sights on that after waiting the past months hoping to hear the Galaxy Nexus would be on AT&T. Once they announced the Skyrocket would have the same screen as the Nexus I figured there would be no way they would bring the Nexus to AT&T.
Course then again if the HD ever does show up they will have 4 phones with almost identical internals, why not add a fifth?
My Sky
I an very happy with skyrocket, plus the custom ICS roms are really starting to pick up a lot of steam.
After playing with the Note at the store I can honestly say that I don't want a device like that. It's freakishly too big. After playing with the SR in the store, I can say that it is the perfect size but I would be open to a small increase. I am coming from an iphone 4s and getting more sick of it each day.
I had a phone with a 5 inch screen (Dell Streak) and it was just too big, IMO, for everyday use. The SkyRocket is a good size for me.
I got the SR refurbished for $20 and really like it.
There is always a new better option that will be out soon.
Another thing to consider is the OS. I'm pretty sure the Skyrocket HD will be Gingerbread (unless this delay is due to them trying to put ICS on it), whereas the One X will ship w/ ICS. You would probably be happy w/ Gingerbread, but there are those who have to have the latest software.
I've got the Skyrocket, Vivid, and my trusty Atrix. The Skyrocket is my favorite out of them. My ONLY complaint is the AMOLED screen and the slight "ghosting" you get with the lines. The Vivid is just clunky and heavy, can't stand the stock UI and has been my least liked Android device, but the screen is amazing. And of course the Atrix that's always fun to use for a few days just to change the pace
Honestly if I were in your shoes I'd wait for the Skyrocket HD. But if you can wait you could try Costco for a cheaper price if you're in the US, scored my Atrix there for $.01 (on contract of course) a month after release. And they don't eff you over with that "charge you tax on the full price of the phone" BS either.

ATT galaxy note vs ATT one X vs SGS3?

Im opening this because my ild one was closed for no reason. Never was contacted by a mod or anything. It was just closed without reason.
Ao basically im able to open up a new contract on ATT. Im just not sure what to get though. The choices i had above are what i was thinking but im open to suggestions and opinions.

I'm not sure why it got closed either. Lately it seems the mods are a little trigger happy on the lock in the general section. Seems like a perfectly legitimate topic that fits well into the rules of general...
You already know my opinion though . Wait for more info on the GSIII. The Note has been out too long (in my opinion) and therefore the hardware is a little underwhelming. It seems the GSIII or One X will fare better in terms of updates to new versions of Android too, with both being the flagship. Like you said, the GSIII is bound to have a big ole battery, and the One X plagued by the same old battery issues of HTC. Add in the fact that you can't replace the battery, and that's a big problem.
By the way, a good site to look for info on the GSIII is linked below. They add updates quite often at the bottom of the article.

Well where does this belong? It seems like it fits in general. And no one said anything about it being in the wrong section. If someone would have said something when they locked it, i would have opened the new one up in the correct section. But i recieved no notice as to why it was locked or who locked it.

I just feel like this thread offers more of a discussion (general) than a simple question (Q&A). Stumpy, maybe next time lose the question mark at the end and put [discussion] before the title. I suppose the fact that your main intent is to help with your next phone might've been why it got moved.

SGS3 vs OneX vs Note?
Here's my take on things:
Note is immediately disqualified since it simply belongs in the previous generation. It can still run almost anything, if not all, apps on the Play Store though.
SGS3 vs OneX! Now here's where we get a hard time! Anyway, I'd go for the OneX because it's already available And since your on T-Mob then you'll be ending up with the Krait version which I actually consider superior to the 4-PLUS-1 NVIDIA chip. BUT if SGS3 comes out with a 32nm or a similar 28nm architecture then it's gonna be a no-brainer for me and go for the SGS3. 40-45nm is simply no match for <32nm chips.
Plus: The camera on the OneX kinda sucks compared to the SGS2, so I'm guessing the cam on the SGS3 will own it.

I have the AT&T note and I love it. Yeah the screen is huge but man it is beautiful. As far as speed it does everything I want it to without any slowdowns. There are OC'ed kernels for it that can really make this sucker fly if you want high benchmarks. For me, it runs perfectly the way it is.
I would love to get my hands on the SGS3 but by the time it land on AT&T store shelves it will probably be Q4 of this year or sometime next year. Remember when the SGS2 came out? That phone hit the Asian and European market well before it hit the states. And when it got here it kinda lost its luster.
Lastly the HTC One X. I'm just getting real tire of HTC. The phone is beautiful and comes with some nice hardware BUT no micro SD or removable battery is deal breaker for me. I don't know what they were thinking. Its not too difficult adding these options but they carelessly neglected it.
And please people don't start telling me that 16gb of internal memory is enough. Maybe its enough for you but it's not enough for me. I don't tell you what you want so don't tell me what I want.
Just my 2 cents.

I think it is a matter of timing. If you already have a fairly recent dual core LTE device then the One X will only be an incremental step up. Faster, yes, but not as big a difference as if you were going from a single core phone to the One X. If the S3 lives up to expectations with a new generation quad core, however, it could be a significant increase in performance (final specs yet to be released...).
Problem is we dont know when the S3 is coming out, especially not in the states. If they do announce the release date during their press event on May 22nd it will still be at least 2-3 months before it makes it to the US.
For me, my old Captivate just hard-bricked and I need a new phone ASAP, so I will be getting the One X as soon as it comes out. If I had one of the newer previously mentioned devices (including the note), I would wait and compare.

exactly why I said if I could wait I would. The Samsung Galaxy line has been the leader for the last two years, but HTC is trying to reclaim the throne as the best smart phone producer (so they have something to prove).
The S3 could blow everyone else out of the water, or it could just be in equal running with all the others coming out this year (meaning it would be a matter of taste at that point). "Could" is the key word here...
I have been thinking of buying the Tegra 3 version from overseas it says on most review sites that its compatible with ATT. Dont have LTE in my area so thats not usefull to me. Anyone thought about that option yet.

Tegra 3 sucks. Its already been shown that the s4 beats it. Plus the s4 requires less power. And dont give me the stupid quad core automatically is better than dual core argument either. And this isnt even rated to why this was started. Thats not an option for me. Im nlt going to go shell out 700 for a phone that sucks compared to one i can get for $200

I didn't say it didn't exist, it just virtually doesn't exist. I know your excitement is getting the better of you, but outside of the baseless rumors you hear every other day; nothing about the phone is known other than it's going to be here one day. It makes sense to make a comparison once the specs are officially ripped and posted for inspection.

Mini Review + Comparison to Galaxy Nexus

I purchased a Galaxy Nexus just a few weeks ago from Google and was loving it. Other than a few minor gripes here and there, I had no major issue with the phone and wasn't looking to replace it.
After seeing the One X reviews and how highly it was praised, I really didn't feel like I had a choice. My fate was sealed.
Having both phones in my possession, I'm going to list what I feel are benefits of the One X over the Galaxy Nexus, mostly related to software and the Sense Enhancements. I'll also list a few cons, because nothing is perfect.
Pros
Twitter contacts actually sync - This has been broken on all of my other Android phones to date. Sense is able to make it work and I really missed it.
Smartdialer - I use this feature a lot and stock Android doesn't have it.
Brighter Screen - On almost 60% brightness, my Nexus looked okay to me, but on about 40%, the One X is actually brighter.
Mail Sorting - Love that you can create sort tabs (such as unread) in the Mail client on the One X.
Camera Enhancements - I could go on and on for days on this one. I'll just briefly mention burst being built-in, rather than a seprate app or setting (awesome feature), quick access to scenes, and quick access to the flash. Also, having the camera and video buttons on the same screen is something that should have been done long ago. The toggle is old news.
Keyboard - It seems like everyone who reviewed the One X hated the keyboard. I was expecting to replace it right away. I actually find that I like it. Am I the only one?
People - I love the contact integration. On the Nexus, you only have Google + fully integrated. On Sense, you get Twitter and Facebook feeds as well as albums. It's how it should be on all phones, in my opinion.
Screen - All of the reviews on the screen are what sold me on this device. I thought the Galaxy Nexus looked really good, but the reviewers were right: There's no comparison to this screen. iPhone might have slightly higher pixel density, but that's on a screen over an inch smaller. The brightness and clarity on this screen is amazing and I no longer fear white backgrounds and light wallpapers (battery life).
Cons
Slower Exchange Mail - I can't quite put my finger on it, but my mail is coming in slower on my activesync accounts. Smart sync is off on those accounts and yet, I get e-mails on my iPad and Galaxy Nexus almost a minute faster, in some cases. It is a negligable delay, but a con for me, nonetheless.
Front Camera Toggle - This was actually something I used quite regularly and now it's buried, instead of quickly accessible. I think I would have rather had this than the button for effects.
Camera nipple - The One X is such a beautiful device. I would love to use it without a case, but I feel like if I do, I'll scratch the camera lense, or at least the ring, eventually. I wish it didn't protrude so far. I'm going to get a case to even it out.
Updates - HTC has actually been pretty fast with updates, but I still have a feeling that it will be 4-6 months after the Nexus gets Jellybean before we see it on this phone. Still, the software enhancements of Sense compensate for that somewhat.
Multitasking - The multitasking on the One X is beautiful, but it's form over function. On stock ICS, you can see all of the open apps and quickly scroll through them and dismiss them, Sense went with the full screen, card-like WebOS approach and now we can only look at one at a time. It makes looking for that open app a little more tedious.
That's my list so far. Loving my One X and the Cons in no way discourage me from keeping this phone. This really is the best android phone I have ever owned and I have had quite a few. Battery life is still up in the air. I haven't had it long enough to really test, but my Nexus was giving me a full day with 50% when I plugged it in. Based on reviews, I'm expecting even better with the One X.
I would be interested to see your pros and cons and what you agree/disagree with me on my lists.
Yeah looks pretty accurate to me. The biggest change for me is LTE.. my nexus is GSM and honestly its hard to go back. 3g feels like edge now.. I miss being able to take the battery out as well but everything else really is an upgrade from the nexus. I'll never sell my nexus simply because its my ticket to new versions of Android but I'll be rocking the one x as my daily driver from now on..

Oh man. I forgot LTE! Yes, it's very fast in my area and definitely makes everything more snappy.
I'm with you. I'm going to keep my Gnex just so I can play with Jellybean when it comes out. I'm a phone addict. It's sad.
Don't forget the incredible battery life.
I had roughly 1day 8hrs with 4+hrs of screen on time WITH wifi on 100% of that after just my first charge of the phone.
Can't beat that with a stick. I wager in my day to day use (not playing video games for a solid hour on it and no wifi) I could go a full 2 days with no charge.
About the LTE. How do you know you're on LTE? Mine says 4g in the corner all the time, not LTE. Wonder if I got the wrong sim card. The guy at the at&t store didn't even know if the phone took micro sim and had to ask his manager.
Does an LTE card have any special markings?

LTE sim card is definitely different than regular. I'm using a full-size LTE card cut down with a sim cutter, so I couldn't tell you if it's supposed to say LTE or not. Are you sure you're in an LTE coverage area? There aren't a lot of markets yet.
It should say 4G LTE in the notification bar if you're on it. You would definitely know.

you're likely on 4G HSPA+ (Not LTE). Has LTE been deployed where you are? If not, the phone will just say 4G (while on HSPA+) and when on LTE say "4G LTE" in the icon.

yeah the icon will say 4G LTE. just 4G means HSPA+
that was one of the big pluses, though, the LTE. LTE, the camera and screen make it easily better than the GNex. then throw in the new SoC and i don't see why anyone would want a GNex over this device.

You have to weigh the pros and cons. Galaxy Nexus is a great device. And the screen isn't bad at all. But I would recommend the One X (even with locked bootloader) if any of this is more important to you:
Best possible screen quality
LTE
Contact integration with social networks
HTC's widgets (such as Friendstream)
Badass Camera software with Burst mode and all kinds of other options.
Both phones run really smooth, but my impression is that the One X has better overall hardware and should get much better battery life than the Nexus. You also don't have to stick to dark backgrounds and themes to maximize that.
Based on GSMarena's battery tests, the One X should get over double the web browsing time of the GSM Nexus. It seems like you can basically get away with much more screen time, which means you can use your phone more and not worry about it.

agree... One X is my workphone (for now). a big winner for me is HTC's email client vs. the native email client on the GNex. i like the threaded messages view and push schedules by account features. nonetheless, the GNex is still a cool device and i will probably keep it for a long time. (still have a Nexus One and Nexus S).

So far I'm happy with the 1X, don't miss my Gnex. Camera is tons better, and its really effing snappy/fast.
I have had it random reboot twice since I've had it. Also, when dragging the notification bar down on the lock screen for a text (handcent) 80% of the time it won't unlock/goto handcent. I have to unlock it after hitting the notification, and then it goes into Handcent. Also, had the camera app stop responding, couldn't get it to come back up without rebooting.
Anyone else? Considered doing a wipe/factory reset.

Why do I always keep going back to the iphone?

This is my 4th HTC One X.
The first one I had was overheating, I took it an ATT store for replacement.
I went back to my iPhone 4s.
The second one was flawless at first, then I saw some spots on the screen that looks like dead pixel. It was like the size of a quarter, but you only notice it over a white background. It was also rebooting randomly. I took it back to the store for a replacement.
I went back to my iPhone 4s.
The 3rd one, I woke up one day, and it would not power up anymore. I took it to the store for a replacement and they told me to call At&T warranty department. They shipped me a new one.
I went back to the iPhone 4s while waiting for it.
This phone has all the bells and whistles, but when it comes to reliability, nothing beats the iPhone.
I have had my iPhone 4s for over 2 years now, and I never had any issues with it, and I believe this is what makes the iPhone great.

Good for you OP. I personally can't go back to the tiny screen. Once I've tried LTE & bigger screen, I just couldn't go back.
Just bad luck. The only reason to go back for me would be one handed use which comes handy during long commute. But, other than that, this phone is just awesome. And, once you get used to high quality 4.7 inch screen, there is no going back to 3.5.

The HOX screen gives the impression that whatever it displays is literally on top of the screen. When you look at an iPhone, the display feels sunk in. The raw texture if this screen feels so much better IMO. I've almost switched to the iPhone multiple times but Android has just always been for me. So much more freedom.
Meh, it's no longer worth comparing Android and iOS devices in terms of hardware, but I will say that the One X has some pretty significant build quality issues, presumably an issue of needing tighter manufacturer specification and narrower acceptable tolerances in all parts. The base design is basically sound besides the flexible casing that seems to have some issues with expansion/getting looser, but otherwise it is a solid device.
I just hope that HTC learns from their lessons this year and makes a phone that can easily last 4 years or so.

Truth. I used to make fun of bigger-screened phones, but now I am totally sold.
I doubt I'd want much bigger than 4.7...
...and I might be able to live with a 4 or a 4.5, but I'd definitely have a lot of trouble going back to 3.5.
I still think something like the Note would be overkill for me, though.
I tried the iPhone for the first time a few days ago before I almost threw it across the room cause it lags. Going from a hox to something that slow with no customization is extremely hard

You can't be ignorant and say an iPhone ain't good, it is, just no Better then HOX, especially after you root, over clock, delete bloat ware, run custom ROM and kernel, than an iPhone has no shot at being faster than a HOX

As much as I dislike the Iphone due to its small screen and multitasking and Im also a big HTC fan, I totally understand how you feel. A smaller phone w more limited multitasking is still better than a phone that doesnt function properly. HTC'd better pull their sh** together if they dont want to lose any more customers. That being said, I still commend them for taking the risk and going w such a drastic change in design and manufacturing, unlike some Android company that keeps recycling the same designs over and over again.

Stop exaggerating. The Iphone despite its short comings is still a very good phone. A paper weight doesnt even have a screen. If you cant see the differences between them how can you have the mental capacity to even use an Android phone.

You got my point, I wasn't trying to start anything, just sharing the experience I have had so far.
I mean, I love the HTC one X, that's why I bought it in the first place. I love the bigger screen, the nice looking HD screen, the level of customization, widgets, the beautiful camera, etc... as I said this phone have all the bells and whistles.
But it falls short in terms of reliability when compared to the iphone. As someone mentioned before:
I will say that the One X has some pretty significant build quality issues, presumably an issue of needing tighter manufacturer specification and narrower acceptable tolerances in all parts

I totally agree with that.
I can guarantee that everyone in here has had some type of issue with their HTC one X, be it random reboot, freezing, overheating, WIFI disconnection, etc... and this is not only happening once, but enough to be noticeable and annoying. This is unacceptable, especially for something that costs over $600, and this is presumably the top of the line android phone. This phone is only a couple of months old, but if you google any of these issues, you will see a lot of discussions.
I can live with these issues for now, as long as the phone does not die on me, but in the future, I will think twice before buying one.
(NB: I have not rooted, or unlocked any of my HTC phones, everything was factory default)
Coming from an iPhone, I did set my expectation very high in terms of reliability.
BTW, I have owned an iphone 3, iphone 4 and iphone 4s, and I can tell you that I have never experienced any of the issues I listed above. I sold all of them except for the 4S that I keep as a backup.
I am a test engineer (QA) by the way, so I know a lot about build quality and testing a product (both harware and software) before releasing it to the public.
Months before releasing new iphone, Apple gives prototype to their engineer and regular people to test the phone in the real world and report back any issues.
I am pretty sure HTC engineers (ie:QA engineers) in some way or another were aware of at least some of these issues to some extend, but decided to release it anyway to the public.
Again, I love this phone, it is the best looking android phone I have had. I am just not very comfortable ( ?little bit scared? ) about the longevity, that's why I kept my iphone 4s as a backup phone just in case, otherwise I would have sold it a long time ago.
And remember, any new smartphone that comes out (android or windows) is going to be compared to the iphone. So if you want you product to stand out, study your competition and listen to your customers.

A few questions about the One X

I'm looking for a new phone. I currently have a Nexus One that I got in July 2011. It was a pretty good phone when I got it (despite it being a year and a half old then), but now it's really showing its age. I've rooted it and installed ICS, but due to the limited ROM and RAM on the Nexus One, there are some problems. Furthermore, I've been running into data connectivity problems with the Nexus One (that I believe are hardware problems related to age) that are really annoying.
Anyway, I've been looking at getting a One X to replace my current Nexus One. I really want to stick with HTC; my past two phones have been HTCs and I really like their build quality and design, which is why I'm looking at the One X.
Before, I dive in and buy a One X (which I will likely get used on eBay), I have a few questions. I have AT&T. My current plan is on an old family plan with unlimited minutes and messaging, with 300 MB data. I don't want to change anything about the plan, but I am pretty sure I'll need a new SIM. Will AT&T be able to give me a new LTE Micro SIM for free no questions asked?
Next, how easy is it to root and install custom bootloaders, recoveries, and ROMs on the One X? I know that HTC doesn't want us messing with things, but I'm pretty sure that I'll want to play around with new ROMs on the One X, providing I get one. After living with stock Android and things like CM and AOSP for the past two and a half years, I told myself that I'd give Sense a legitimate test, but if I don't like it, I'll definitely install a new ROM.
Last thing: white or dark gray? I think that both colors look great. I've seen them both in person and can't make up my mind. White looks really clean and is definitely something different, but I'll probably get a case for the phone which will cover most of the case coloring, so it may not make much of a difference anyway.
Thanks.
I honestly suggest going with the HTC one. If you get the one x from att or it's on the new firmware and wasn't rooted, you will be stuck on stock. The reason I suggest the one is that it'll be brand new while the hox will be a year old by then.. The hox is still good, but the end of it's life already came. I doubt HTC will support it further.

If we get sense 5 as has been confirmed? by reliable soures then that'll bring a fresh wave of development to the one x. I do agree though about getting the one over the one x.

If you have had your current phone since 2011 are you due for an upgrade? HOX are still going for a good chunk of change on eBay and craigslist, I got mine a few weeks ago from radioshack for 99cents.
I've been due for an upgrade from AT&T for a while now, but like I mentioned in the original post, I'm on a family plan with my parents, who don't want to change anything with the plan and don't want to extend the contract out either. I've bought my past two phones off contract and I don't really have a problem with doing so for my next one. I'm looking at a One X just for this reason. For what it is, it seems to be the best deal off contract; I've been seeing them going for about $200-250 on eBay. If I were to wait for the One, I'd probably be looking at prices in excess of $500.

If I was in your boat, I'd get the latest nexus. Updates come way faster than they ever did with any of my other phones and the price is right.

The Nexus 4 is my next choice after the One X. I do love the Nexus line and the Nexus 4 is a really pretty phone, but the all glass back concerns me a bit. It seems like it would be a bit too fragile.
Anyway, any route that I go, I'll probably have to get a new SIM. Will AT&T give me a micro SIM with LTE support?

If they're like any of the carriers here, you'll have to buy the sim. Usually around $10 I imagine.
I went from a nexus one to the HOX as well. A new sim was included with the phone when I got it. If one isn't included you can just go into an ATT store and ask for it. I got one for the wife's new phone that way without any charge.

Is the One X with new firmware (Jelly beam, I'm guessing) not able to be rooted? Would I still be able to unlock the bootloader and install custom ROMs?

The new OneX with 4.1.1 is not rootable.
You will not be able to flash custom roms.

Unless you can find a telus or rogers OneX... But I dunno if you can use att service lol Then you can unlock bootloader very simply  I say go for it bro... I love love love my hox. I've never had trouble with it till I dropped it and cracked screen, but I like the bleeding edge of technology so I seen it as an opportunity to upgrade If your used to the N1 the hox with feel like a speed demon on cocaine

I have been noticing that my Nexus One has been seeming to slow down a lot lately. I would go for the Nexus 4, but it's lack support for AT&T's LTE bands has me concerned. The One X seems like it's a best match for me. It has the HTC build quality that I really like, it has great dev support here at XDA, it has a 720p screen, and true LTE support. Even if I get a device with Jelly Bean that can't be rooted or unlocked now, I put my full faith in the community here. I feel like we as a group can work around the limitation and find a way to root the 4.1 One X.
Sorry for bumping an old topic, but I got my One X this past Saturday. I love it. It's a huge step up from my Nexus One. Everything about it just seems high-end compared to the Nexus One.
The screen is amazing; moving from WVGA to 720p is a huge step up; everything looks so crisp and clear, but that's to be expected when you have a PPI that almost matches a Retina display.
The phone is blazing fast. There's virtually no lag while doing anything at all, which couldn't be said for my Nexus One. It was a pain just trying to browse the web on the Nexus, but with the One X, it's a complete delight.
One of my main concerns with the One X was the battery life. The sealed battery doesn't bother me at all; I never replaced the batteries or any of my previous phones. With my average usage (about 30 minutes browsing the internet over HSPA a day [no LTE here yet], a few texts, and little to no calling, plus occasional WiFi,) I'm getting about the same battery life as I got with my Nexus One. At the end of two days of use, I was at about 20% battery.
Finally, my biggest concern was dealing with Sense. When I was thinking about getting the phone, I don't think the bootloader for v3.18/Android 4.1.1 was unlocked, but I believe it's now unlocked. I got the phone and one of the first things that I did was install Holo Launcher HD, my preferred launcher for a stock Android 4.x experience. To be honest, I can deal with Sense...for now. I've always used stock Android on all my devices, so this is my first time dealing with Sense (or any skin) on a daily driver device, but it's pretty manageable. I think I'll stick with stock Sense for the time being until I feel that I have to have a AOSP or CM10 experience on the One X. There are a few annoyances with Sense, but they're manageable.
Overall, I'm very glad I got the One X, and I don't regret the decision at all.
