From what I've read, I believe the answer is "close but no cigar." Am I right? Or should we expect this device to work pretty well at grabbing onto HSDPA signals, but with a little higher battery drain, since the radio would have to work harder?
I have been considering pre-ordering an unlocked, black HTC One S (MAO model) from either Negri Electronics or Expansys, but I don't want to waste my time & money if this phone is, quite literally, a non-starter on the T-Mobile US network.
I'm a former CDMA subscriber and I've only been with TMo for 8-9 months. This would also be my first unlocked phone purchase, so thanks in advance for any insight you guys can offer.
I'm just going to wait and buy it from T-Mobile. Yeah I'll pay full retail but I'll sell my old phone to cover most of the cost; that's kind of how I do my upgrades! I just don't want to worry about it not working. I think it needs 1700 and 2100 bands for 3G/4G to work.
@unclespoon - I hear you, but I'm interested in the black model, which is "micro arc oxidized." I understand that TMoUS is only selling the gradient anodized model. We shall see.
Anyone else with an idea about the likely performance of that unlocked international model on TMo AWS?
Here's the answer to my question from Myriam Joire (@tnkgrl) of @Engadget, via Twitter:
"@malcontent510 the Euro version won't. The US version will. Both are tri-band, one without AWS."

it would be silly. The only difference should be the tmobile branding and bloatware. I thought the idea of only three models is to reduce the number of phones you have out there.
TWO different models of the One S: PJ40110 / PJ58100
I am hoping that there is no difference, but I was just quoting what Myriam from Engadget told me. I have since learned on Wikipedia that T-Mobile's HSDPA frequencies (namely "1700 MHz/2100 MHz UMTS AWS") are not specifically listed as covered by the antenna in the international version. The appropriate frequencies may, in fact still be covered, but according to both Negri Electronics and GSM Arena, the unlocked international version does not list them.
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100
I hope this is either not the case or not a show-stopper.
Edit: I now see a 3/12/2012 article from Engadget which indicates there are actually TWO distinctly different ONE S models:
HTC PJ40110
HTC PJ58100
WTF?
So if I buy a One S from the UK, will I only get edge? Or 3G? Thanks! Hoping to buy this phone in December when I'm due for an upgrade

No. Unfortunately, the international model (including the one mentioned above) sold by Clove does not cover the 1700MHz frequency -- the TMobile US AWS frequency. The end result being that this phone would not support HSPA on TMo.
OK sorry for being off topic, but I'm a bit confused. The One S will or will not support SD/SIM Cards? Because isn't the SD/SIM your phone number? That confuses me. And is there even a difference between SD and SIMs? Thanks! Again, sorry for the off topic. If you want me to I will create my own topic.
So. I may be leaving Sprint and my Evo 3D behind to go to T-mo. I was planning on grabbing an unlocked ONE S. I am not experienced with unlocked gsm phones coming from Sprint and all...
Expansys shows 850/900/1900/2100.
If I understand correctly, t mobile 3g is on the 1700 band. 4g is on the 1900 band. So we would get 4g (hspa+) but not any 3g...
I was planning on the gradient metal version. I don't want to get stuck with a ceramic blue version from T-MOBILE...

I think their website is wrong. If you watch some of the unboxing videos for the Vodafone Sensation, the box lists AWS and not 1900. I have only the videos to go by though. Wait for the T–mobile US version to come out though. It may have the right frequencies for AT&T, or so I've heard.

I have a t-mobile (US) version, however it came in a generic box. Is there a way to tell what frequencies it supports?
Looking at the Gallery for an article at TmoNews, a picture of the box showed the frequencies available on the Sensation 4G.

The box shows UMTS frequencies are 1700, 2100 and 1900. Isn't 1900 AT&T?

AT&T uses 850 and 1900 3G. Unless the TMO US Sensation has 850 it won't fly 3G on AT&t.

There are some special codes you can dial to display service menus that include the frequencies in use. Don't know them for HTC. Some Googling might turn up the answer.
It was my understanding that you can use 850 or 1900 for 3G on AT&T but didn't necessarily have to have both. But this is just something I vaguely remember hearing somewhere and don't have any personal experience to back it up.

Yeah you don't need both. I used to rock a phone with only 1900, but you only get 3g in some areas and not others. And if I remember correctly att was/is actively moving all 3g onto the 850 band, so really I think the 850 band is more important of the two. Really did suck when everyone else had 3g and I was on edge because it was a 850 zone for 3g.

Never, ever, EVER look forward to a Canadian release. We get **** MONTHS after the UK and US if we're lucky!!!
When it comes to new phones, just keep the word "Canada" out of the discussion unless you're emo and look forward to disappointment lol. The thought of acquiring a Canadian version of the Sensation never even crossed my mind. All my phones have always been imported.
The only thing I use carrier upgrades for with my actual service here is so I can sell the phone which makes the most money so I can import a new one. The wireless industry in Canada is way behind even the poorest third world nations.

According to these published specs it may be true:
http://www.htc.com/www/product/sensation/specification.html
Network (5)
HSPA/WCDMA:
Europe/Asia/T-Mobile US: 900/AWS/2100 MHz
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
5. Network bands in regions other than Europe and Asia Pacific may be different, depending on the mobile operator and your location. Please check with your mobile operator.
What's not perfectly clear is whether the European models actually include AWS. Given the recent fiasco with the G2x we won't really know until someone actually tries it.

So then is there any reason to wait for the Sensation to be released in the US if we just want to buy it outright?
Or will the two devices be exactly the same with just different packaging?

My biggest hesitation is wanting a US warranty. I'd rather wait another week to get that. I would expect the charger to have a European plug, but adapters are dirt cheap, so not a big deal on that.

Whoa, wait a tick. Is that right? UTMS 1900 MHz? Is that the US Tmo version? If so, it should work on AT&T's 3G for those who have coverage in that band. Chicago certainly does. This is why the Vibrant works on AT&T's 3G.
It is the box for the Sensation 4G. As far as I know T-Mobile US is the only company calling it that. According to what the box says, it should work on AT&T's 1900MHz band for 3G once the phone is carrier unlocked. If the box has bad information on it, then it might not work. Once the phone is actually released and tested, hopefully we will know for sure at that point.
On the previous page it states someone tried an ATT sin card and only got edge.

Hey everyone,
So for those enthusiasts and interested in the 8core version of the GS4, anyone has any idea if the i9500 (or probably i9505) can be used on AT&T LTE? Negri lists the phone's LTE bands with 2100, which is a part of AT&T LTE (700/2100 but mainly 700), so I kinda wonder if the i9500 can utilize the network's LTE speed?
Besides, even if it cannot utilize att lte 2100 band, it has HSPA+ of 42Mbps with bands totally compatible with att hspa+ 21Mbps. So would the download/upload on the gs4 become faster?
Anyone with good understanding of and/or experience with network bands? Please share! :highfive:
Again, I totally cannot wait for the gs4 :victory:

As i understand it. The 8 core (2x4 core) Exynos Octa don't support 4G LTE. So those countries where 4G LTE it hot. They will release the Snapdragon 600 (4 core) version which include 4G LTE.

I don't have LTE in my area and may still be years from now so I am also interested. Does anyone know how to get the International Exynos version, where a US user may buy when they release it? Will it work on 3g or whichever connection other than 4g on at&t network on this hspda or gsm network? Please any clarification is very appreciated. Does one without att contract just call them and ask for a new contract but that we want to use our own international phone. Please and thank you.

You're not going to get the phone at any type of subsidised price (like $199/299) through AT&T, nor will your phone have a warranty if you buy it internationally. 2 factors that make me say 'no thanks'. You may think you'll just go get the international version, but you had better burn an upgrade too and sell whatever that is. Otherwise you're wasting your money. You're paying for that upgrade every month whether you use it or not.
Normally I go for international versions of the Galaxy. This time, however, I think I am going to get the AT&T version.

I have a GS3 I am getting a few bucks for and I am not worried of any upgrade. I think i will be doing this and ill likely skip gs5 and go international on gs6 if they continue the line because it seems US is never going to have Exynos chipset. GS2 has it, Note 2 US has it but its all from the lte modem. Ive been paying for it for a long time without ever having access to it. Im on Sprint now, only thing ill miss is unlimited data i dropped the insurance on my phone last year when i realized ive paid quarter of phone cost yearly for it and has not helped me plus requires another 100 to get the replacement. From what I read the development is going to be bad because of Samsung not sharing what they promise... Personally I wont look back. My GS3 US dual core qualcomm snap dragon krait cpu is inefficient and they overheat stock setup real easy. I settled last year vs getting the international with an Exynos and this time I am not going to. I appreciate the advice given to me so that I may put the international gs4 on ATT. It wont have 4 g on their network but i haven't had it and still wont be in my area from Spront for 2-3 years.
SOrry to bring up an old thread. But has anyone found out if the OctaCore S4 will work with AT&T LTE?
If anyone will get the International version and can test it, let me know!
AS I've heard the Exynos supports all 20 LTE bands

Which is bull****, because the Exynos does not directly support ANYTHING.
Both the Exynos "Octa" and the Snapdragon 600 rely on an external modem chipset, and THAT is what determines radio capabilities. Also, even if the RF frontend CAN support a given band doesn't mean that it WILL when implemented.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6541/the-state-of-qualcomms-modems-wtr1605-and-mdm9x25 as an example - WTR1605L + MDM9615 devices CAN support any LTE band in existence. However, no single implementation is able to support them all in a single device.
So far, the typical trend is - if it supports Euro LTE, it will not even fully support North American HSPA+ (most Euro LTE phones lack HSPA1900 and HSPA1700 support.)

I have both a 9500 and 9505. The 9500 doesn't have the LTE chip. The 9505 doesn't support US bands.
About to go buy the At&t version from the store to get LTE now. Luckily I hit Europe next month so I'll get LTE there with the 9505.

Aw man. I was going to get this phone so I'd have something I can use in both the US and Mexico.

I don't like the idea of having two phones myself (I feel I already have too many phones) but seems I may have to go this route myself. But I wonder if it works in reverse? Could I get the AT&T I337 and use the LTE functionality in Mexico?

So, if you're interesting in importing one, make sure it's the F350S version. I bought mine on Ebay. It also supports att's HSPA bands and Edge bands as well.
Why not just wait until it hits the US and save money?

Cause pricing can be similar and the device can be altered from its current state aka crippled.

I cant see your pics so not sure if they are screenies of speedtests? Be curious to see what it gets on LTE.
If it works on att I assume then it would work fine on Rogers network here in canada since we are running the same mhz as att.
I searched that model and anywhere I see it 700mhz is not listed in it specs?
I see it does it get 2600mhz though which it nice.
Bootloader locked on your model?
If you could pm me the buyer you got it from that would be great.
Thx.

Any proofs? Screenshots? Your post is bad formatted, you should include links into url tags instead of IMG tags
Does it support all the LTE bands? Does it support band 7? European band 38? You know, the xda read not only Americans

Yeah screenies are helpful for sure.
That said of course there are ppl from all over the world on xda but the thread title kinda mentions ATT specifically.

I updated my post, apologies for the incorrect IMG tags.
I bought it from here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/231176080421?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
The network bands are incorrect on the ebay listing, but if you did research, (like I did) engadget and android central mention that it works with ATT LTE: http://www.engadget.com/2014/03/04/lg-g-pro-2-review/
it has pentaband LTE: (700/850/1800/2100/2600), so YES, it does work Billy Madison.
Also, Tri-band HSPA: (850/1900/2100).
As far as bootloader support goes, it's a carrier model (SK Telecom), so I assume it's locked.

interesting. could you tap 5457#*350# in stock dialer and post us screenshots with bands tab?
The LG F350K that I have supports the following
LTE: 700/900/1800/2100/2600
WCDMA: 850/1900/2100
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900
I can confirm this 100%.
I get working 2G/3G and 4G on UK networks using 1800Mhz for 4G

Hi everyone!
I just buy a HTC One XL (Gray model) 16gb. The specs says this phone supports HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 but my carrier (DIGITEL Venezuela) is 900 and the phone only works in 2G.
Another important issue (i think) is when i go to the testing area (*#*#4636#*#*), in phone information, when i go to the menu and select select radio band there is only 2 options, automatic and USA Bands. (probabilly i need JAPAN Bands o Europe Bands)

Any have this problem? A radio update can solve my problem (i use ATT, Telstra and Vodafone Radios, but without luck)?
I search the forum, but i cannot find any thread with this same issue.

Did you happen to buy the at&t version? If so, that might be why, because the at&t version only supports 850/1900/2100 for HSDPA. You can see the differences in their spec sheets.
HTC One XL
AT&T One X
If you didn't buy the at&t variant, it might just be a case of having the wrong APN settings entered in the device.

It isn't the at&t model, those have the at&t logo above the display instead of the HTC logo. I'd triple check your APN settings, call your carrier and make sure they're correct, and make sure they do use the right frequency.

I've checked APN settings. That not the problem. Before this phone, I use a Optimus 2x (works in 900 edge/hdspa) and took the APN settings from here.
I'm pretty sure is a radio issue.
I don't think the radio is the problem, the radio just makes use of the hardware, regardless of the carrier. For example, I can use an at&t radio and get great LTE speeds even though at&t use entirely different frequencies than my carrier.
Sent from my Evita
Well... if you see my first post, I can't have a option to select a radio different than USA Band, and my phone suppose is the international version.
if not a radio problem, is a hardware problem?
I test with another carrier (movistar 850mhz) and works in 2g and 3g
Sent from my HTC One XL using XDA Free mobile app
That's normal, see my screenshot, I have the same options.
The difference being that the frequencies aren't listed for you. Have you contacted your carrier yet?
Sent from my Evita
Yes, i spoke with a support guy and he give me the same APN and the bands supported by the carrier (900 GSM/UTMS and 1800 LTE)
I feel stuck now...
Sent from my HTC One XL using XDA Free mobile app
I personally think it's an issue at your carrier's end.

It's a issue in this particular phone? Could be a problem with the range of the band?
I have my old phone (LG Optimus 2x) and works in this band with this same carrier with the same simcard.
I really don't know then, short of the phone actually being the at&t model but having a retro-fitted standard case I'm out of ideas.
