Best ever achieved battery life! - HTC Sensation

Over 5 days very light use. It is amaze me so I decide to share the experience with you sensation comrades!
Used to have battery drains with some kernel, customed ROMs. A week ago decide to try Bricked kernel and made some settings. Then the battery performance suprise me. In the past have strongly suspect HTC can not built energy saving hardware. It turns out that the HTC dev teams can not make things right. Many DEVs at XDA did better jobs then those "professionals".
See the picture.
Battery: stock
Rom: Bulletproof 1.5
Kernel: Bricked
Other CPU usage profiles and voltage settings.

Don't cough. I used to suffer battery drains at the airplain mode. About 25% per night. Try it yourself, you will know.

it's funny when people try to achieve better battery life, with smartphones and share their technique on how to have less drainage. everyone have their own purpose of using the phone. it really boil downs to the user. for me the best way to achieve great battery results is to not use your phone, just let it sit or get a regular cellphone.

i dont see a point for smartphones to last this long. if u call this awesome, u must be quite naiive to even buy a smartphone. if u really want long battery life, ur better off with a nokia 3310, that **** can last u 2 full weeks..
and smartphones arent meant to have long battery life also. to me, good battery life means last long enough for one whole day of use, e:g taking photos, browsing, etc. why do u think smartphones carry powerful cameras? well they're for u to use and not let it sit in your pocket just to show off your phone can last this long.
to you battery life fanatics, you guys are pretty much kids in your own world. u buy a powerhouse phone and yet u dont want to use it, u rather save the battery. what a waste of money

This.
What's the point of buying such an overpowered phone if all you're going to do is leave it on airplane mode and gloat about the battery life? Might as well get a razr v3.

Agreed besides its not negativity dude, we just think its pointless to preserve battery and dont use your phone at all. I got Anker for mine and everything else is stock. I can play, watch videos, use WiFi , browse the web etc and it lasts about 14 hours which is good enough for me until I get home

Same here, besides, these days there's alway a charger in the neighborhood for emergency's.

To be honest mine doesn't last more than 8 hours with an Anker, obviously because of the amount of use, however, I think is pretty impressive that this guy got 5 days. I was just pointing that out lol
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App

i think mine was like 2 days with full usage (wifi mobile connection music camera)

I just put mine on the charger when it hit 50% 2 days 9 hours, 32 min of calls, 17 min of screen time, Wifi on the whole time. Energy ICS ( 15th March one ) stock kernel. I get three days out of it regularly but I'm a light user for the most part.

Agree.
I'm growing tired of having to preserve battery on my sensation. I'd like to have a fully functioning phone with a battery that last at least 12 hours. That's what I'd call good battery life.
When you have a smartphone like the sensation, but you have to dim the LED, turn off auto sync, bluetooth and wifi (when not in use), use 3G only when necessary, it kinds of defeats the purpose of having a smartphone.
That being said, I started using anker battery about 3 weeks ago, and yesterday I got the best battery life ever! Unplugged the charger at 9AM, spent the day playing a bit of games, surfing in 3G for a while, a few phone calls, wifi on all the time, GPS for around 20 mins, and at 2AM, the battery shows 41%! But of course auto sync was off and the screen brightness was about 40% all the time.

the longer I can last my battery it's six hours, I'm a heavy user. I really don't get it, why would you by such a good phone to not use it, and squeeze the juice out of it?

6 hours is normal. for me, a smartphone is well, it's for u to fully exploit it's potential. not by dimming the screen down to 0% brightness, everything off, airplane mode then bragging "oh look! my phone lasts 6 days"!
reminds me of my iphone 4 days where u have to dim the screen down to 10% if you're gonna go on a trip. turning off sync, wifi, bluetooth and data and even that u dont have enough for 1 whole day. normally lasts for like 5 ~ 6 hours then battery low warning comes up.. that's pathetic imho.
well i got over that, turned to android and now rocking with my chicitec 1900mah battery, heavy use entire day, wifi sync data off all the time , camera 80% of the time and a little bit of gaming. started off at 8am then going back to the hotel at 9pm , still holds 30% charge. (well im on a holiday that time , have no roaming plans and it's wise to turn data and sync off lul)

Well got lots of disagreement from you guys, you must know my point is not what you discussed. The point is when you are not using your phone you do not like the battery run out. I used to have 25% power drop for airplain mode that is too much. Now the overnight electric consumption is just 1%. When using the phone the performance and the power saving choice must be shifted. For that I forced 2 CPUs go online all the time by default. With wifi and gps on I use 12% battery per hour.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e

I'm actually a heavy user I have the virtuous inquisition rom I get about 10 hours. I'm not bragging but all you guys that are getting upset for a guy that posts great battery life cmon it helps if anything someone can learn something new here. Go troll something else as we know the sensation Is a great phone we're just trying to get maximum potential with a lot of use.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium

I don't see the point of this. Yes ur batter lasted 5 days. That's great but u used your phone like 10 times. See ur screen time. Umm good job NOT using your phone. Batteries generally last long without no use.

That is not quite right...
Before sensation i had a HTC Snap an used it fo about year and a half, wit heavy every day use 24/7 bluetooth, 3G, about 8 email accounts, etc...
with standard ROM, battery lasted only for day since day one, with custom ROM i managed to get up to 2 weeks maximum battery life, normal use no restrictions battery lasted for about 7 - 9 days wich was excelent, the only drainage ocoured when u turn on GPS, which drains battery compleatley in 2 -5 hours maximum, thats my experience,
i would be more than happy to acheive 48 hours of normal phone usage without recharging.
There was a topic in our local news about battery drainage aswell, and they mentioned that the cause mainly is the free apps that pushes you ads, and prevents the internet connection from idle.....

That is right.
I removed apps that call for internet update regularly. They are designed for 24/7 mobile internet connection. It is a waist of power when you sleep.
When phone idel (airplain mode) the CPU frequency is set to be 192/384 MHz. Phone sleep when you sleep.
During talk Both CPU frequencies are set at 192/480 MHz. This is far more sufficient.
When the screen on the max freq. is set to 1566.
When playing game Both CPUs are OC at 1920.
When the phone is in use you will need the performance. When the phone is not in use and still consuming power, it is called "battery drain".

it's failure by design..

One would think by now, that after HTC put out the evo and other large screen devices they would have better batteries. Also not to mention the thunderbolts delayed release. No we waste more on extended batteries, and have no cases to protect the dam thing. I've tried all the tips out there for tweaking the battery to get max use and it still sucks. I'm still in my 14 day trail period and I'm thinking of bringing it back. I'm just pIssed companies have the nerve to do this BS!
Well take it back then. Try a blackberry out. Oh yeah those things have even worse batteries and the bis always fails.

First off I get plenty fine battery for a phone as fast as this with LTE. The large, bright screen is just a bonus. If you are getting bad battery you have yourself to blame if you would read these forums as almost everyone here is getting great battery life.
Also, your battery size complaint is terrible, the droid X has almost the same battery and runs fine as well. The LTE right now is the killer, verizon has admitted it so either switch to 4g or 3g only and stop flooding the boards with this crap.
I make it through the day no problem, and with LTE on. First few days were terrible, but things seem to have improved drastically since then.
Take it back. Threads like this show that it's not for everyone.
Example - I have a car dock, I commute, I work on a comp. all day, easy enough to charge at home. I've never had this battery life issue everyone is talking about.

I have read WAY more posts about good battery life than I have bad. Where have you been? Yes, there are occasional posts about it but the vast majority after a little bit of tinkering have said good battery life.
My personal experience.
Took my phone off the charger at 96%. Used the GPS on a hour drive, sending texts and listening to music the whole way. Ate some dinner while continuing to send texts. Went to a hockey game and took ~30 Pics. Used the GPS to get back home with music and finally put the phone back on the charger. Time off charger 7 hours. Battery percentage 82%. Only 14% decrease with what I would say is some pretty moderate use.
One thing I actually thought was funny is I pulled out an old Sammy flip phone to see what size battery it had. 1100 mah. 5 years ago they were shipping dumbphones with 1100 mah batteries. Come to present day, a phone with 4G, a 1 ghz processor, and a ginormous lcd screen has a bump of 300 mah. Is something wrong with that?

If I can figure out how to go 22 hours with 43% remaining on my phone with moderate to heavy use, than sure as hell you should be able to get at least 12-15 hours out of the phone, not knowing half of what I know.
cause that is all that matters right, making it through the day for how long your awake, so for most people 12-15 hours, then you are home and can plug it in.
who cares if you make it home and plug it in at 5%, it still lasted you all day.
I've done the 5 tips for better life, and thou it has a improved.... its a minor improvement. the phone is with out a doubt sweet, im just pissed bc i cant get a full day out of it. i work for 8 hours and leave the friggin thing in airplane mode, then on my way home i listen to music with it still in airplane mode subway kills it mad quick....i do and dont wanna bring it back i want the newest thing out, im coming from a OG moto droid.. 50-60 bucks for a goddamn battery that makes your phone last longer and turns it into a potential weapon...data/voice together is the only feature right now that is making it hard for me to decide if i should bring it back or not.. i got it this past Saturday i have 8 more days to decide, not to mention vzw wants the 35 dollar restock fee now. who remembers when they had the 30 day test run??? lmao they stop doing it because people kept bringing phones back within the period...
my phone definitely lasts me the day, but i don't think it would last the 10 to 15 hours that others are reporting. i already turned the brightness down to about 25 - 30 percent, turned off unnecessary widgets and sync'ing plus i set setcpu to throttle the cpu down to lowest speed when the screen is off. as such, i'd like to know what others are doing to squeeze so much battery time out of their TBs.
Custom Rom and Kernel seemed to help my battery life a ton. I can now easily make it all day with moderate to heavy use on stock battery. From the battery monitor, it looks like the screen will eat the most power, be sure to keep it set low. The underclock/volt while screen is off uses hardly any batter power and is really nice as well.
I'm getting awesome battery... My phone has been up for about twelve
Hours now and I still have about 45 percent... Heavy usage texting music internet and xda posting.

On all Android devices the screen is the battery eater, except on 2.0/2.1 with Exchange Sync issues... then it could hang and eat the battery.
I've never really had an issue with battery life. That's not to say my battery lasts longer, i just use different methods to keep my devices alive.
AA USB chargers have always been a good friend of mine, as well as plugging my phone into my laptop while it's in my backpack.
I can't wait for an external battery charger to come out for the TB, then you just have 2 or 3 batteries and swap them out as needed.
But if you're expecting more than 8 hours or so off of one charge they're right, you may look for another device
Yah man, 3 hours of navigation, with music going, many calls, 3 hours of internet use, txt & talk and LTE and 3G switching through out all day because of traveling . I was really heavily using the phone with an extended battery but made it just over 24 hours... Try trading it in for another battery. Your not Wifi tethering all day as home network are you?

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Blackberries are known for having excellent battery life. I had 12 hours 40 some odd minutes and was at 69% last night when i plugged my TB in to charge. I really don't understand the problem.
edit: proof, this was a few hours before i plugged it in.

You bought a device with a 4.3" screen and a brand new radio technology. Honestly, what did you expect. No phone out there with a screen that large has what could be considered great battery life. Sure some are better then others, but these are not BB devices. And while we are at it, lets be realistic here... if they put in a bigger battery you would be in here complaining about how large and how heavy the phone is.... You can't have everything, something has to give at some point.

[Q] Real World Battery Life

Fellow MT4GS users,
How is your battery lasting you? I'm coming from a MT4G, even though I eventually modded it, and it I used to get at least a full day and have to charge that night at the worst unless I really heavily used it.
My MT4GS has been lasting me half a day or so before I get into the yellow/red and I'm usually charging before the sun goes down.
My main culprit according to the built in battery indicator is display at 65% (I'm on automatic brightness)
Just over 10 hours today for me before I had to charge.
ps- Anyone know how to remove the annoying low power notifications? I'm getting two pop ups in a row.
Yeah mine generally lasts about 14 hours at moderate usage, but it's only been 2 days, and I remember when I got the MyTouch 4G it died on me while I was still at work and then after a week or so it got much better...
Yeah, I can agree with you there I think my MT4G was a little wonky the first week or so. We'll see how it goes.

Only lasting 6 hours yesterday ....
My battery lasted about 33 hours. After the 1st full charge. So way better than my other phones have done. This wasnt heavy usage though. No videos or music just a few calls, lots of emails and some web browsing.
One problem I am having is low call volume. My videos and music are perfectly loud, just the call volume sucks.

Well make sure, your phones screen brightness is on low. Also make sure wifi, gps, bluetooth are off. Also make sure you kill some of the apps you ran on a task manager. just gotta find ways to keep the battery life up.
Well when I first got the phone, I didnt charge it until it was almost dead. Then fully charged it.
Also I turned off GPS, WiFi ect. I also use task manager to kill background programs that I don't need or want running.
We will see if the battery life goes down after a few weeks. Sometimes they take time to normalize.
Oh what task you ended and what task manger you used?

I appreciate the help but the logic is off. This is the latest ..and i stress smartttphone. It is supsupposed to be used as such. Bluetooth ..4g..music...video calling..maps..etc.. if u use of of these features six hours it will last. If you use them all try maybe 4 hours. Plus those boxes are annoying when the batterly is low. This phone has got to be rooted.

I'm gonna have to agree with that one, that's pretty much no different than saying buy a car but don't drive it so you can save gas lol
I have gotten to around 12 hours or more now. Still moderate overall but heavier browser usage.
I do not kill tasks or turn off wifi, gps or anything. My brightness is auto.
I uninstalled the recent maps update because I saw where G2 users seem to think the recent update is draining their battery so I wondered if it could maybe be causing issues here too.
Anyways my battery life has gotten into the acceptable range and that was all I really did other than have more days to monitor it.

This appears to be the same battery that is in the Sensation 4G according to Google.
For us this is good because Ebay and Amazon are already flooded with replacement batteries.
We need to find a higher capacity mAh battery but with the same size as to not make us have to get a replacement back. This shouldn't be that hard.
My old phone has a smaller battery with a higher mAh capacity so the battery in the myTouch 4G Slide is an utter disappointment. They could have easily produced a 3000 mAh battery for this beast of a phone.
Edit: Found a 1900 mAh battery for only 9.99.

Screen is on the least bright setting. I'm an ex blackberry user and dont even have one app. I could care less about apps. I'm charging every 5 hours and thats sometimes from just it sitting around/ not even using the phone. The thing better get it's act together. I'm starting to like the keyboard too but I'm up at 5am and if im charging at noon that's terrible. Especially with minimal use.

Weird I live in small city and 4G is crazy fast. When I get to a big city like Baltimore, Maryland the 4G was slow. My thoughts are there too many people on the 4G network. T-Mobile did promised us double the 4G speed and they need more Towers too.

For the first couple days, my battery life was awful. I'd be getting low-bat notifications when I got home from an 8-hour day at work.
But of course that's always the case with new phones that haven't even had the settings tweaked...
- Placed a Wifi toggle widget on the homepage and turn it off every day after leaving home for work in the morning.
- Ensured certain programs and updates were not running in the background automatically:
~ Turned off Autosync on accounts (manual only)
~ Turned off autoupdates for weather
~ No Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi, unless turned on for a specific reason
~ Enabled power efficiency and power saver modes (30%)
~ Disabled Always-on data connection
~ Disabled auto-updates in various apps (Friendcaster, IM+ Pro, etc.)
- Turned the screen off when not in use
Today I'm at 40% after 14 hours of mixed use. I'd say that's DAMN good.
By the way, for those seeing the whole "Autosync off" thing and thinking that you can't do it, just do it. I don't get my work email or personal email on my phone unless I tell it to and it's utterly awesome. Less stress. Less looking at my phone constantly. It feels free and just plain great. And I used to be superconnected 24/7 syncing every 5 minutes (if push wasn't available).

Three days (66 hours) on one charge!

I bought a used G2x in December 2011 and had okay battery life on the stock ROM. In January I started modding the phone with the Hell Phoenix and later Hellfire Sandwich ROMs. One day my phone started getting really hot and from that point on my battery life got worse and worse until it would only last a few hours. I ordered an 3500mAh extended battery from eBay, but it only increased the stamina of the phone to about 5 hours.
Since I never got a receipt from the previous user I had no warranty. However, I called LG and agreed to have the phone repaired for a fee that would not exceed $100 - they said it would cost between $40 and $100.
Fast forward 10 days and I received my phone back with a "replaced chipset" as it said on the note. And LG was nice enough to not charge me for the repair - kudos to LG!
I noticed that the phone was not getting hot or even warm anymore so I charged the 3500mAh battery to see how long it would last.
Unplugging the phone from the charger Thursday morning just before 8AM I used the phone as usual (light/medium use, but everything except BT enabled) all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday until the phone finally died Sunday morning at 2AM. Yes, that's 66 hours!!!
I'm still flabbergasted that this was possible, especially because I used the phone as usual and made several calls each day.
I'll try to attach a screenshot of the battery use. It was made at the time I went to bed Saturday night so it's not the full 66 hours.
Has anyone else ever gotten results like this or even higher?
Android version: Stock 2.3.3
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Battery: eBay item 180721306295 from "bridge_wireless" $9 including shipping
Get Juice Defender Plus, it'll toggle your wifi automatically and save even more battery life.
Light usage (sending maybe a hundred texts and a couple web pages loaded) will easily get me through the weekend.
Using Faux DS Kernel and stock battery.

I tried Juice Defender Plus and Faux DS kernel in January but never got any amazing results, but maybe my phone wasn't that healthy back then. Also, I didn't do anything to save battery life during the 66 hour test other than setting the screen brightness to "Auto". I also made several phone calls - as far as I remember it was about one hour and thirty minutes in total.
This really makes me wonder how long I can get in "power-saver" mode (dim, wifi off, 2G, Juice Defender, Faux DS) with the 3500mAh battery. Has anyone tried this?
I would be happy with 12 hours of light/normal use.
Im using the trinity kernel. SetCPU,Juice defender, auto dim screen, Wefi plus,
the only thing that syncs often is facebook on the hour.
and I cant make it 8 hours on one charge.
I rarely use the phone for calls mostly use text for work and friends.
facebook & web through out the day. if i let the phone sit and dont touch it the battery will last all day
I know I am no "light" user. I bought the damn phone to USE it. but I wouldn't say I am always a heavy user. I dont expect to stream for 8 hours but it would be nice If i could listen to the stern show, check Email, facebook,Web & text and only need to charge once halfway through the day then again overnight
Most I've gotten was like 22 hours! -___-

I am definitely a HEAVY user and get around 16-18 hours on a charge. Constantly have Wi-Fi on, sometimes mobile data, gaming such as Temple Run and Angry Birds, and atleast half the time listening to music through PowerAmp. Constant texting, and maybe about 20-30 minutes of calling.
Also, when your cell standby surpasses your display usage, it shows you aren't really using your phone.

Have you popped open the phone to look at the board?
Just curious if there's any variation. Screened on revision number, etc.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at . As I said I used the phone as I normally do without any "battery saver" methods in place. I never claimed any heavy use during this test.
It'll be fun to try going in "battery saver" mode with the same battery and see if it'll last a week... Well - for ME it would be fun!

How fantastic - and thanks for the great constructive feedback! I love the warm feeling of knowing that the time I spend sharing my knowledge is appreciated without disbelief.
Really, I don't want to waste my time if you can't read. Just wanted to share my battery experience with stock 2.3.3, non-power saver configuration under normal phone use. And my idea of normal phone use is NOT just checking the time like you say. Compared to my experience when I originally got the phone I'm now getting way better battery life. I believe that the spread in battery performance is wide and far too many people settle with 4-6 hours of use before recharging with the reasoning that it's a dual-core phone and therefore swallows power as was it Gatorade. If I'm wrong and everyone knows that the G2X can go days on a charge then sorry that I brought it up.
Well when your display usage doesn't even show up, yet your cell standby and phone idle are at the top of the list, this means YOU ARENT USING YOUR PHONE. Any way you want to play this out, its not surprising that you get so much life out of your phone since its usually used as a fancy paperweight.
Maybe have your display usage on par with cell standby, then come show off amazing battery life.
Also, the 4-6 hours of life is most common on stock Froyo/GB. Not an issue anymore with custom roms.
Sent from my amazing G2x running EaglesBlood and Faux.
Guys, c'mon. You're not even talking about the same thing as each other. A debate is completely pointless.
theking_13 says you're not using your phone enough for the 66h to be that impressive.
PhilipCourtois says he wasn't bragging about how amazing his battery is, but just stating how much of an improvement it was over the stock experience.
Both of you are right. Philip is in fact not a very heavy user, so a longer life for a battery isn't completely surprising. However, phone idle accounts for 21%, whereas everything else accounts for 79%, which is by no means at all "a fancy paperweight". You can even see that the apps that were used account for 39% of the usage at that point, which is more than the cell standby. Furthermore, judging by the graph statistics, the phone was turned on relatively frequently.
Now for something on topic: I'd be interested in seeing someone do a proper test on a 3500mAh battery. Something along the lines of charging it up to 100%, leaving the screen on at 100%, settings both min and max CPU clock speeds to >1000MHz, and doing whatever else you would normally do on your phone in addition to that. Then posting a screenshot of how long that would last them. I predict somewhere along the lines of 9-12h, but it'd still be more informative than a lot of the reviews here. Not to say that the reviews here are unhelpful of bad, because they are very much so helpful.
Good point, but the app usage on GB is extremely inaccurate. I have had my phone on for 3 hours, 27% usage by cell standby, and I played Draw Something for two minutes, and it shows up as using 17% already? ICS graphs on the other hand, are more accurate.

Hey, you said you get >16h and you're a heavy user. Now I'm not doubting that in any way, but I'm using the same ROM as you, as well as the ELP kernel, which not only is optimized for EB, but is also supposed to be a battery saving kernel. However I get probably around 12h on medium usage. I've tried the faux kernel, and it did give better battery life than the T15 Trinity kernel, but on ELP my device lasted longer (T15 < Faux OC/UV < ELP for me, in other words).
Anyway, my question is did that Anker battery give you far more life over your stock battery, or is your device just lucky when it comes to battery usage? An extra 50mAh is barely anything, but you did mention in another thread that it runs cooler. From personal experience, my phone battery drains faster when it's warmer, so maybe that's it?
I'm really just curious because I've been messing around with battery saving techniques/phone accessories these past few weeks, and I just seem stuck in that 10-14h range on medium (maybe even medium-light by your standards) usage.
My highest is 8 hours. WTF
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA
How much do you use your phone in those <8 hours? I have moments when I don't touch my phone for hours, and generally I go down at about 2%/h when on standby. So if you ignored those, I'd probably be in the same boat as you.
For example, this is me today:
As you could probably tell, I haven't exactly used my phone a lot today, so I'm at 47% after 11h. However, I tested my battery this weekend by setting my screen brightness to 100%, screen timeout to never, and CPU min/max to 1100MHz/1100MHz. These were the results:
As you can see, my battery didn't even make it to 4h, so it really depends on how you use your phone.

You're right. I never wanted to start a debate - all I wanted was to shed light on the fact that battery life of the G2X can be fantastic - even on stock GB - with the simple upgrade to a 3500mAh, cheap ($9) battery. Before I had the chipset replaced, the phone did NOT last very long and from everything I read on the forums, crappy battery life should be expected if not flashing a custom ROM with battery saver kernel. I'm just saying that that's not true for every phone.

If by "stock experience" you mean the condition I bought the phone in - then yes. But by my standards, the phone is now in as close to a stock condition as you can get - all I did was put in the larger battery. It's running stock GB 2.3.3 with all the T-Mobile bloatware still on it, Google+ on, data sync on, WiFi, 4G etc. on and screen on auto. And I really doubt that LG put in a "special", fantastic chipset when I sent it in for a repair.
Anyway, it seems a real enlightening discussion is on the way once we really start comparing use versus battery life and see that our phones differ dramatically in this regard.

Well I'll tell you everything I did in a sec. But the battery helped maybe 20 minutes, but it is a new battery, so its going to get better results than one that is say 9 months. If it was a brand new LG battery, I'd get the same results.
Now onto what I've done to get this much. First of all, I use EaglesBlood rom and Faux's v0.48 kernel, CM Driver, not DS. I use Wi-Fi constantly, say for about 3-5 hours of the 16 hours that its used. For the most part, I have the network set to only connect to EDGE, not UMTS or HSPA. So 2G for most of the day. Then on the way home, I use 4G for around 30 minutes to an hour, and thats what kills my battery like there's no tomorrow.
Some other things I've done are replaced the Gallery app (supposedly uses battery all the time scanning for files) and use QuickPic instead. Replaced the stock Browser with Dolphin Browser and not only is it smoother, but it doesn't run in the background after I've closed it. Also, turned off logging for the SU app, turned off notifications for Facebook, Play Store, Words with Friends, Scramble with Friends, and auto synching for my Google accounts. Basically turned off background notifications for all apps except Pulse (news app) and Voxer (walkie talkie app).
Lastly, I have my CPU set to 216-816 MHz all the time, unless I play a game and whatnot. I notice no lag whatsoever while playing music and texting/on XDA/ browsing Pulse/etc. I undervolted -25mv across the board, even after what was already lowered through Faux's kernel. Ill post a screen shot so you know what they are. I found if I lowered them more, I'd get reboots sometimes when turning on Wi-fi.
If you have any questions, reply here or PM me. I'll be happy to help.

[Q] Is the battery life really THIS low?

Hey guys.. I'm new here and I plan to stick around..
I just bought a used (for 1 year) Galaxy SL from my friend at a throwaway price. It's in superb condition and everything. Its been a few days, and here's the stuff I've done till now -
1. Immediately upgraded to DDLF2 (India) using Kies. Found some bugs after upgrade. For example, the promised "Video Snapshot" feature wasn't there. Also, the phone rebooted randomly many times in the day and battery ran out quickly (after about 3-4 hrs of moderate usage)
2. Next day, after noticing the weirdness, I decided to flash a custom rom. I heard from many, many sources that Frankenstain Mod and the Bam kernel, along with DDLF2, are the perfect combination for stable performance, nice looks and great battery life. So, following some instructions, I rooted my phone and flashed the rom and kernel. I was (am) REALLY impressed with the final result. I went ahead and installed apps, played games, showed off etc etc..
But sadly, the battery problem still remains. Of course, it has definitely improved a little, but the maximum it can stand till now is abt 6 hours (light-moderate use). Adding to the misery, I am a heavy user. I love playing games, composing music and sometimes doing homework in my phone. I installed JuiceDefender, SetCPU, Battery Saver Pro (which helped in increasing abt an hour). I listened to almost any piece of advice I got. I read through these forums too.
My previous phone running bada OS (Samsung Wave 525) had awesome battery life, which lasted for 2-3 days of HEAVY usage. Of course, I can't expect the same from an Android device, but seriously, is it this bad? And why is this happening? Is it because of -
1. The mod/kernel?
2. Worn-out battery? (i doubt it, every app states that the battery is "healthy")
3. Some internal problem in the phone?
Or is this just something every owner of this phone faces?
Sorry for the long post. Help is greatly appreciated. :fingers-crossed:
Iam on ddlf2

1. Its not the mod /kernel. Since I use the XDA-Bam kernel 15 cr5. So far no issues and the battery lasts at least full day. with heavy usage.
2. May be. Even I doubt it.
3. Not sure with the internal problem, but i doubt that there wont be any internal problem as well since you are using heavy applications
with out any lag.
suggestion
1. Do battery calibration
2. Recharge full until you get 100%
3. Clear the battery stats with cwm
4 again drain the battery completely.
5. Recharge it full to 100%
see if it works for you
Press thanks if it helps you
I have calibrated my battery already. It had helped in solving a major problem (wrong display of battery stats). But battery life hasn't been improved in any way.

Yes, it's like that. Most people say "heavy usage", but they don't imagine that people actually use their phone all the time. I'm always streaming music via 3G, reading news articles, auto-sync on 24/7, social-networking, and sometimes playing games. My phone doesn't make it through the day.
People that claim that their phones are lasting 2-3 days usually don't have a data plan, don't use wifi that much, don't play games, and don't use facebook. That's great for them, but I like to use my phone, and when you're making the most out of your Android, it'll run out of juice in 6 hours.

Well said man. Nice to see people admitting android being backward in the battery department. I guess battery technology hasn't advanced much yet, compared to smartphones themselves. Manufacturers have to choose between a thin, sleek design with abysmal battery and a "fat" one with more reliability. I guess they prefer the former, which is leading to problems like this...
And yeah, regarding usb charging, i've seen that it doesn't charge as fast as normal wall charging... Is it normal too?

Yes, that's normal. The voltage is about have as much, so it takes about twice as long to charge via USB cable.

Totally agree with you...mine last less than half a day with normal use similar to yours..it will only last around a day plus if it's in 100% sleep mode
as in my opinion, everything is right with your battery.
u are using ur phone fully, so don't expect to much.
try the better battery stat app, it will show real stones in juice eaters.
I switched from CM9 to GB (Frank mod) mainly due to battery drain. But did not make a difference. However if i keep data off, battery lasts much longer, otherwise it drains around 30% at night. I am pretty sure XXKPQ was much better but don't want to go back. Anyone have other suggestions.

best way is to switch to ddlf2 or xwlf2, bam kernel last version. imo, of course.
and main thing - try to find biggest eater. betterbatterystats will help you.

here is the answer. lookout antivirus. it keeps your device alive instead of sleeping properly. you really need it?
magic locker is not a friend either. try to disable them first, make some discharge cycles without them and post the screens with screen time as well.
different problem
i dont have drainage problem...bt my phone takes a loooooooooot of time to get charged..... i have to charge for about 6-7 hours for the battery to fully charged frm 10%... i did not have this problem befor i used DDLF2
My suggestion: do not install antivirus apps, they drain the battery like hell! For the night battery endurance, just enable the deep sleep function (I use No frills cpu, you can enable the deep sleep from the settings menu) and set the governor and scheduler as you wish.
Battery drain is no more a problem for me since I'm on the Frank's MOD.
Remember to do a full recharge (with the device turned off) and a wipe battery stats for optimize the recharging time.
Cheers
wakelocks means your phone being unable to go to sleep mode for certain periods of time (usually because of retarded apps).
Antivirus on android/linux = scam.
that 3G Watchdog crap, do you really need it? (is the battery drainage worth it?)
I would say your battery duration seems normal, considering you're actually using your phone nonstop plus there's those crap background apps running all the time.
BUT if you wanna be sure about it, why don't you make a nandroid backup (using recovery mode), then factory reset? That should get you back to a clean ROM installation, then calibraty and test your battery overnight (of course make sure your phone is going to sleep mode and is using proper cpu governor). This is the most reliable way to see if your battery drain is related to usage, or just a faulty battery. Go clean, let it sleep, see how much battery it drains.
After this, restore the nandroid backup and clean your phone accordingly (remove crap apps or whatever).
Good luck!
for those on CM9, search for alpha 11 kernel in the general discussion thread...flash that over CM9 alpha 14
i get 3 days of battery on low usage......its pretty similar to ddlf2 in terms of battery drain for me atleast.....and i get ics too....
you can also use droidwall to block all the applications which use internet wihout any reason. they will block un-authorised access to internet and will surely cut a good volume of data usage but remember this works only if ur device is rooted
Hi I'm on paranoidandroid based on cm10 alpha3 and the battery life is at its best 14 hs!!!!
I will try some alpha 4 and check if battery life is improved, else some GB

[Q] Do you remember your battery life when the phone was new?

Hi,
I bought a new battery and I believe it's fake as it doesn't lost much (1 day) with my current usage (email is downloading, under 30 minutes of phone talk, a couple of SMSs, a couple of webapges opened).
Could you, please, tell me this:
Approximately the batter life when your phone was brand new
Approximately the current battery live
Time since you bought the phone
Time it take to charge your phone to 100% (does your phone charge really fast to about 60% and then very slow to 100%?
Thank you very much
1. something around 2 days, not 100% sure but it was something around this
2. Current according to GSam battery monitor is 22h 20m, but that's now because I'm addicted to parking game, this is what kills it so fast, normally is again something around 2 day(a little less than before)
3. 1 Year and 3 months +/- one month
4. This I have no idea, I just leave it on the charger and don't track this. Next time I'll check it out and let you know what's up with this.
Now something more, according to one user from another forum(It's Bulgarian, so I won't give you link here). Now he says that when the phone was new, he did 10-15 full cikles of the battery(0-100-0) without charging in between, now he is really happy, I'll post screenshot later, that his phone stayed On for something around 7 days, mine even in the cupboard doesn't do that. And, probably, has only rarely used. it.
Its totally fake as you can see the cpu was awake most of the time....You won't get that battery life even if you keep your phone idle.........I get near 2days.....
Re: [Q] Do you remember the new phone battery life?
I agree..I thought shortYoko himself got that battery @ First glance and was confused.
Further more *stock Rom *landscape mode battery chart *~never remember seeing like that ~May be wrong.

1.approx 18 hours.
When installed cranium ~approx 1 and half days
Overnight 100 to 97 in cranium (with internet off )
2. Currently on cm10 beta5,garuda kernel ~30%+ lost overnight .
On really heavy usage(no Wi-Fi, mobile data full downloading, screen always on,xdaing, gaming) 3 to 4 hours Max [email protected] this rate ~average 2 hours only
4. Not sure ~but probably a hour or so.. sometimes that happens ~I call it stuck @60 syndrome (but it gets stuck @ various other places 39,59 are commons )
3. Around a year.

Yep agree with ^ptc... doesn't look legit
I remember getting a good 26-27 hours with music of about 1-2 hours + 24*7 2g + autobrightness ... I remember once in a dire situation managed to pull it through for 34 hours with minimum brightness and full drain..
No livewallpapers no launchers.. Just stock with a few apps like whatsapp and facebook.. Thats about it.
Now battery life is about 20 hours.. moderate - light usage ( on my own MiUI build #3.. got better battery with cm10 sometimes )..
My phone is about 11 months old now
last question.. I dont know. dont keep track of it while charging..
I manage to pull through about 24-30 hrs with little bit of wifi here and there.....
If not using wifi i get upto 40hrs.......
Our pico has awesome battery anyway.....:fingers-crossed:
Re: [Q] Do you remember the new phone battery life?
1. Around 2 days with moderate usage of Wi-Fi and phone calls, and some gaming.
2. Lasts for a day, with moderate Wi-Fi usage, music and calling for about 30 minutes or so.
3. 9 months.
4. Nope. It increases uniformly.

Well honestly saying, even I don't know, maybe it's fake I can't be sure but there are couple more of this pic's. And yes that's totally stock rom, he haven't rooted his phone even now(the pic is from 04.04.2012 or at least then was uploaded). Here are a bit more of this pic's http://gl.belgarionbg.info/di-513288169517.jpg , I know it's states 5 days only but now I couldn't find more of the 7 days usage, these 2 are in the same post with the 7 days http://gl.belgarionbg.info/di-1113387624443.jpg http://gl.belgarionbg.info/di-1213387624448.jpg About that the guy sayed that this is with very little usage, I have no explenation, mine even left somewhere can't do this.
@ptcpayme- Yes there was landscape mode in stock rom, I mean the pic still can be fake, but the landscape is not.

I know landscape is in stock Rom, but what I'm not sure is that
usually system settings and battery chart can't be landscaped as far as I remember.
From what I know ,
battery calibration is fake*confirmed by google itself *.
I know this kind of 0 to 100 and 100 to 0 for 15 cycles should kill your battery rather than enhancing it. ( I'm daily doing it,~I only charge, when it drops to 0)
I've heard about a thing called bump charging HTC batteries, which goes something like severely overcharging to break some kind of barrier in the Lion battery *which will reduce long term battery life *but enhance battery time alive *~I don't know whether this point is true ~
But this is outrageous.
Obviously the first picture is edited. Even so, display takes only 2%?. And if you split the bottom part into two, you get 2.5 days, ~ In 2.5 days on the right , he turned screen on the only 8/9 times? ~practically thrown the phone in cupboard.
And he charged inbetween about 30%
And what about other apps? ~if you're downloading as much apps like it's shown~atleast google play should take some amount of charge, which should be shown.
2nd screenshot:
Time since boot: 341 hours? That's 14days? What's he suggesting?
Even if he admits he changed his battery,it's hard to accept this, unless someone I know~ you /some renowned member here proves otherwise.
Only possible way, I think he just put the maximum frequency @122 mhz and thrown the phone in cupboard~even then, I'm not sure it's possible ~
However there's nothing in this screenshot that I can see to prove that this is fake.
Anyway what's his point in showing all this? And what's the app showing battery in the top left?

1. when i brought it lasts about 1day to 1.5day
2. ma battery life is approx. 20 to 1day. im using apex rom v1. i never swithchoff the internet, music atleast for 5hrs, wifi for 1/2 hr to 1hr.
3. more than 1year.
4. while charging till 60 to 70%(i dont remember exactly) it chanrges in an 1/2hr. after that it takes at least 2 to 3 hrs to get full change..
dont be thankful. hit hit that button.
Re: [Q] Do you remember the new phone battery life?
My battery last about 14 hours of average use like music 2-3 hours , always connected to WiFi or else if I'm out I use 3G. Sometimes , mostly while travelling I watch Sone episodes of batman (Arround 20 min ) with headphones plugged in .
I prefer to charge at night , and it last till 9 pm at night , well that enough for me .
But as when I was using flyrom v3 , it lasted for about 9-10 hours on the same usage .
I'm using currently stock rom and juice defender which had improved my battery life Arround 5-10 % ,
Well if tour fond of your battery , then I recommend using stock Rom as battery was te only reson I flashed back to stock .
My phone charges extremely fast , it's like fully charged from 0%-100% within 90-100 minutes .
And our pico has a better battery life than desire HD or sensation XE.
I've tried both for a week and pico lasts for about 1 day on single charge whereas desire HD NEEDED a charge every 6-7 hours if connected to WiFi and using facebook , browsing a few web pages.

@Blue3125- Can you add, is there landscape in battery stats since you are with stock rom, not that it's something important, I just got really curious.
@ptcpayme- Now I see your logic and yea, you are damn wright about your toughts, I've given the dude link to this thread, if he has some balls, he should register and tell us how did he do that, if not, well it's obvious fake(more obvious than now). Just about 'time since boot', I think that's the time while the phone was never restarted or switched off(which also I can never do, but maybe it's possible with stock rom). But nevermind.
Now something on topic for a change . I've checked out, my battery also stucks somewhere while charging (this time at 72%), also I've discovered that to get from 97% to 100% takes a bit more than getting from 80% to 90% (these two are just for example). This is while charging from PC, can somebody tell is there any difference if we charge it from a wall socket(I lost mine some months ago), except faster charge of course.

Well I've now flashed sense 4 so as far as I know , there wasn't any landscape graph if we switch orientation so that screenshot is probably fake
Well battery on apex sense Rom is aweful , not more than 4-6 hours
But anything is far in love , war and sense 4 on my pico XD

Wow, just wow. You are a liar.
The truth is I didn`t receive such message from you on our android forum, because if I did I would wreck you with proofs, that is why you didn`t give it to me, isn`t it!
I just found this thread by random search. So may be later but better than never I will use my right to defend myself.
Btw the original thread that I shared my experience with the battery life is here- link The screens are long gone, still have them somewhere.
Here you can see that I`m the said owner of the Explorer
.
And yes, that nick came from my first smartphone which was that Explorer. Still use it today - still have great battery life.
I was going to post brutal amount of screenshots but to avoid chances of fake accusation I decided to take video instead. So here it is >
https://youtu.be/CkqIOf7UvOI /I`m posting the direct link because [YOUTUBE] tag didn`t work/
I have not rooted the phone as you can see, but I`m using the NEXT shell instead of the boring sense.
In the beginning of 2012 I managed to hit that record with over 7 days of use, never made it again thought. But something like ~5 days? - Easy! It never occurred to me that somewhere someone would named me as someone making fake claimings, otherwise I would make some videos at that time.

That number is about how many hours are gone by after the last restart/turn off the phone.
If you still want more proof just tell me what you want to do with it. Its not a problem to give you access through virtual machine (safety first) with the phone connected and be able to install stuff and check it all you want. That still would not change the great battery life.
And no, his place in not in some cupboard - this is my office phone. Its just that I rarely using it for talking, also I`m not using internet - for that I have my HTC 601.
