I bought a used G2x in December 2011 and had okay battery life on the stock ROM. In January I started modding the phone with the Hell Phoenix and later Hellfire Sandwich ROMs. One day my phone started getting really hot and from that point on my battery life got worse and worse until it would only last a few hours. I ordered an 3500mAh extended battery from eBay, but it only increased the stamina of the phone to about 5 hours.
Since I never got a receipt from the previous user I had no warranty. However, I called LG and agreed to have the phone repaired for a fee that would not exceed $100 - they said it would cost between $40 and $100.
Fast forward 10 days and I received my phone back with a "replaced chipset" as it said on the note. And LG was nice enough to not charge me for the repair - kudos to LG!
I noticed that the phone was not getting hot or even warm anymore so I charged the 3500mAh battery to see how long it would last.
Unplugging the phone from the charger Thursday morning just before 8AM I used the phone as usual (light/medium use, but everything except BT enabled) all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday until the phone finally died Sunday morning at 2AM. Yes, that's 66 hours!!!
I'm still flabbergasted that this was possible, especially because I used the phone as usual and made several calls each day.
I'll try to attach a screenshot of the battery use. It was made at the time I went to bed Saturday night so it's not the full 66 hours.
Has anyone else ever gotten results like this or even higher?

I tried Juice Defender Plus and Faux DS kernel in January but never got any amazing results, but maybe my phone wasn't that healthy back then. Also, I didn't do anything to save battery life during the 66 hour test other than setting the screen brightness to "Auto". I also made several phone calls - as far as I remember it was about one hour and thirty minutes in total.
This really makes me wonder how long I can get in "power-saver" mode (dim, wifi off, 2G, Juice Defender, Faux DS) with the 3500mAh battery. Has anyone tried this?
I would be happy with 12 hours of light/normal use.
Im using the trinity kernel. SetCPU,Juice defender, auto dim screen, Wefi plus,
the only thing that syncs often is facebook on the hour.
and I cant make it 8 hours on one charge.
I rarely use the phone for calls mostly use text for work and friends.
facebook & web through out the day. if i let the phone sit and dont touch it the battery will last all day
I know I am no "light" user. I bought the damn phone to USE it. but I wouldn't say I am always a heavy user. I dont expect to stream for 8 hours but it would be nice If i could listen to the stern show,check Email,facebook,Web & text and only need to charge once halfway through the day then again overnight

I am definitely a HEAVY user and get around 16-18 hours on a charge. Constantly have Wi-Fi on, sometimes mobile data, gaming such as Temple Run and Angry Birds, and atleast half the time listening to music through PowerAmp. Constant texting, and maybe about 20-30 minutes of calling.
Also, when your cell standby surpasses your display usage, it shows you aren't really using your phone.

Have you popped open the phone to look at the board?
Just curious if there's any variation. Screened on revision number, etc.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at . As I said I used the phone as I normally do without any "battery saver" methods in place. I never claimed any heavy use during this test.
It'll be fun to try going in "battery saver" mode with the same battery and see if it'll last a week... Well - for ME it would be fun!

Well if I barely used my phone and mostly used it to check the time, I'd be surprised if it didn't last 3 days.

How fantastic - and thanks for the great constructive feedback! I love the warm feeling of knowing that the time I spend sharing my knowledge is appreciated without disbelief.
Really, I don't want to waste my time if you can't read. Just wanted to share my battery experience with stock 2.3.3, non-power saver configuration under normal phone use. And my idea of normal phone use is NOT just checking the time like you say. Compared to my experience when I originally got the phone I'm now getting way better battery life. I believe that the spread in battery performance is wide and far too many people settle with 4-6 hours of use before recharging with the reasoning that it's a dual-core phone and therefore swallows power as was it Gatorade. If I'm wrong and everyone knows that the G2X can go days on a charge then sorry that I brought it up.
Well when your display usage doesn't even show up, yet your cell standby and phone idle are at the top of the list, this means YOU ARENT USING YOUR PHONE. Any way you want to play this out, its not surprising that you get so much life out of your phone since its usually used as a fancy paperweight.
Maybe have your display usage on par with cell standby, then come show off amazing battery life.
Also, the 4-6 hours of life is most common on stock Froyo/GB. Not an issue anymore with custom roms.

Both of you are right. Philip is in fact not a very heavy user, so a longer life for a battery isn't completely surprising. However, phone idle accounts for 21%, whereas everything else accounts for 79%, which is by no means at all "a fancy paperweight". You can even see that the apps that were used account for 39% of the usage at that point, which is more than the cell standby. Furthermore, judging by the graph statistics, the phone was turned on relatively frequently.
Now for something on topic: I'd be interested in seeing someone do a proper test on a 3500mAh battery. Something along the lines of charging it up to 100%, leaving the screen on at 100%, settings both min and max CPU clock speeds to >1000MHz, and doing whatever else you would normally do on your phone in addition to that. Then posting a screenshot of how long that would last them. I predict somewhere along the lines of 9-12h, but it'd still be more informative than a lot of the reviews here. Not to say that the reviews here are unhelpful of bad, because they are very much so helpful.
Good point, but the app usage on GB is extremely inaccurate. I have had my phone on for 3 hours, 27% usage by cell standby, and I played Draw Something for two minutes, and it shows up as using 17% already? ICS graphs on the other hand, are more accurate.

Now I'm not doubting that in any way, but I'm using the same ROM as you, as well as the ELP kernel, which not only is optimized for EB, but is also supposed to be a battery saving kernel. However I get probably around 12h on medium usage. I've tried the faux kernel, and it did give better battery life than the T15 Trinity kernel, but on ELP my device lasted longer (T15 < Faux OC/UV < ELP for me, in other words).
Anyway, my question is did that Anker battery give you far more life over your stock battery, or is your device just lucky when it comes to battery usage? An extra 50mAh is barely anything, but you did mention in another thread that it runs cooler. From personal experience, my phone battery drains faster when it's warmer, so maybe that's it?
I'm really just curious because I've been messing around with battery saving techniques/phone accessories these past few weeks, and I just seem stuck in that 10-14h range on medium (maybe even medium-light by your standards) usage.

How much do you use your phone in those <8 hours? I have moments when I don't touch my phone for hours, and generally I go down at about 2%/h when on standby. So if you ignored those, I'd probably be in the same boat as you.
For example, this is me today:
As you could probably tell, I haven't exactly used my phone a lot today, so I'm at 47% after 11h. However, I tested my battery this weekend by setting my screen brightness to 100%, screen timeout to never, and CPU min/max to 1100MHz/1100MHz. These were the results:
As you can see, my battery didn't even make it to 4h, so it really depends on how you use your phone.

You're right. I never wanted to start a debate - all I wanted was to shed light on the fact that battery life of the G2X can be fantastic - even on stock GB - with the simple upgrade to a 3500mAh, cheap ($9) battery. Before I had the chipset replaced, the phone did NOT last very long and from everything I read on the forums, crappy battery life should be expected if not flashing a custom ROM with battery saver kernel. I'm just saying that that's not true for every phone.

If by "stock experience" you mean the condition I bought the phone in - then yes. But by my standards, the phone is now in as close to a stock condition as you can get - all I did was put in the larger battery. It's running stock GB 2.3.3 with all the T-Mobile bloatware still on it, Google+ on, data sync on, WiFi, 4G etc. on and screen on auto. And I really doubt that LG put in a "special", fantastic chipset when I sent it in for a repair.
Anyway, it seems a real enlightening discussion is on the way once we really start comparing use versus battery life and see that our phones differ dramatically in this regard.

Well I'll tell you everything I did in a sec. But the battery helped maybe 20 minutes, but it is a new battery, so its going to get better results than one that is say 9 months. If it was a brand new LG battery, I'd get the same results.
Now onto what I've done to get this much. First of all, I use EaglesBlood rom and Faux's v0.48 kernel, CM Driver, not DS. I use Wi-Fi constantly, say for about 3-5 hours of the 16 hours that its used. For the most part, I have the network set to only connect to EDGE, not UMTS or HSPA. So 2G for most of the day. Then on the way home, I use 4G for around 30 minutes to an hour, and thats what kills my battery like there's no tomorrow.
Some other things I've done are replaced the Gallery app (supposedly uses battery all the time scanning for files) and use QuickPic instead. Replaced the stock Browser with Dolphin Browser and not only is it smoother, but it doesn't run in the background after I've closed it. Also, turned off logging for the SU app, turned off notifications for Facebook, Play Store, Words with Friends, Scramble with Friends, and auto synching for my Google accounts. Basically turned off background notifications for all apps except Pulse (news app) and Voxer (walkie talkie app).
Lastly, I have my CPU set to 216-816 MHz all the time, unless I play a game and whatnot. I notice no lag whatsoever while playing music and texting/on XDA/ browsing Pulse/etc. I undervolted -25mv across the board, even after what was already lowered through Faux's kernel. Ill post a screen shot so you know what they are. I found if I lowered them more, I'd get reboots sometimes when turning on Wi-fi.

One would think by now, that after HTC put out the evo and other large screen devices they would have better batteries. Also not to mention the thunderbolts delayed release. No we waste more on extended batteries, and have no cases to protect the dam thing. I've tried all the tips out there for tweaking the battery to get max use and it still sucks. I'm still in my 14 day trail period and I'm thinking of bringing it back. I'm just pIssed companies have the nerve to do this BS!
Well take it back then. Try a blackberry out. Oh yeah those things have even worse batteries and the bis always fails.

Also, your battery size complaint is terrible, the droid X has almost the same battery and runs fine as well. The LTE right now is the killer, verizon has admitted it so either switch to 4g or 3g only and stop flooding the boards with this crap.
I make it through the day no problem, and with LTE on. First few days were terrible, but things seem to have improved drastically since then.
Take it back. Threads like this show that it's not for everyone.
Example - I have a car dock, I commute, I work on a comp. all day, easy enough to charge at home. I've never had this battery life issue everyone is talking about.

I have read WAY more posts about good battery life than I have bad. Where have you been? Yes, there are occasional posts about it but the vast majority after a little bit of tinkering have said good battery life.
My personal experience.
Took my phone off the charger at 96%. Used the GPS on a hour drive, sending texts and listening to music the whole way. Ate some dinner while continuing to send texts. Went to a hockey game and took ~30 Pics. Used the GPS to get back home with music and finally put the phone back on the charger. Time off charger 7 hours. Battery percentage 82%. Only 14% decrease with what I would say is some pretty moderate use.
One thing I actually thought was funny is I pulled out an old Sammy flip phone to see what size battery it had. 1100 mah. 5 years ago they were shipping dumbphones with 1100 mah batteries. Come to present day, a phone with 4G, a 1 ghz processor, and a ginormous lcd screen has a bump of 300 mah. Is something wrong with that?

I don't want to sound like a jackass, but I bought a 4G phone, not a 4G phone I need to use in 3G so I can make it through the day. In the end I just bought the extended battery. Solved all my woes.

If I can figure out how to go 22 hours with 43% remaining on my phone with moderate to heavy use, than sure as hell you should be able to get at least 12-15 hours out of the phone, not knowing half of what I know.
cause that is all that matters right, making it through the day for how long your awake, so for most people 12-15 hours, then you are home and can plug it in.
who cares if you make it home and plug it in at 5%, it still lasted you all day.
I've done the 5 tips for better life, and thou it has a improved.... its a minor improvement. the phone is with out a doubt sweet, im just pissed bc i cant get a full day out of it. i work for 8 hours and leave the friggin thing in airplane mode, then on my way home i listen to music with it still in airplane mode subway kills it mad quick....i do and dont wanna bring it back i want the newest thing out, im coming from a OG moto droid.. 50-60 bucks for a goddamn battery that makes your phone last longer and turns it into a potential weapon...data/voice together is the only feature right now that is making it hard for me to decide if i should bring it back or not.. i got it this past Saturday i have 8 more days to decide, not to mention vzw wants the 35 dollar restock fee now. who remembers when they had the 30 day test run??? lmao they stop doing it because people kept bringing phones back within the period...
my phone definitely lasts me the day, but i don't think it would last the 10 to 15 hours that others are reporting. i already turned the brightness down to about 25 - 30 percent, turned off unnecessary widgets and sync'ing plus i set setcpu to throttle the cpu down to lowest speed when the screen is off. as such, i'd like to know what others are doing to squeeze so much battery time out of their TBs.

Hours now and I still have about 45 percent... Heavy usage texting music internet and xda posting.

On all Android devices the screen is the battery eater, except on 2.0/2.1 with Exchange Sync issues... then it could hang and eat the battery.
I've never really had an issue with battery life. That's not to say my battery lasts longer, i just use different methods to keep my devices alive.
AA USB chargers have always been a good friend of mine, as well as plugging my phone into my laptop while it's in my backpack.
I can't wait for an external battery charger to come out for the TB, then you just have 2 or 3 batteries and swap them out as needed.
But if you're expecting more than 8 hours or so off of one charge they're right, you may look for another device
Yah man, 3 hours of navigation, with music going, many calls, 3 hours of internet use, txt & talk and LTE and 3G switching through out all day because of traveling . I was really heavily using the phone with an extended battery but made it just over 24 hours... Try trading it in for another battery. Your not Wifi tethering all day as home network are you?

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Blackberries are known for having excellent battery life. I had 12 hours 40 some odd minutes and was at 69% last night when i plugged my TB in to charge. I really don't understand the problem.

You bought a device with a 4.3" screen and a brand new radio technology. Honestly, what did you expect.No phone out there with a screen that large has what could be considered great battery life. Sure some are better then others, but these are not BB devices. And while we are at it, lets be realistic here... if they put in a bigger battery you would be in here complaining about how large and how heavy the phone is.... You can't have everything, something has to give at some point.

Now that I've just rooted my Inspire, are there any fixes that are available that will help improve battery life? I am using the RCDMix3D rom, and my phone barely lasts 6 hours. I take all of the suggested actions like turning off bluetooth, gps, wifi, autosync, and background data, but it doesn't seem to help much. I even bought a 1600mAH battery, which lasts no longer than the standard 1230mAH one.
So, looking for anything I can flash, or download, or whatever that will help improve it. Good battery life is something I really need in a phone, and the Inspire's is the one thing that is making me consider switching phones. (which I'd rather not do, I love this phone!)

unless you are getting 4 or more hours of screen-on time. how much screen on time?
i was getting 15 hours out of the box with 2 hours of screen on. now with leedroid, slightly underclocked, im getting about 24 hours with 3 hours screen time.

OP, if you're talking 6 hours to go from 100% to 0%, you've got something else going on. Big time. Especially of you're turning off all that stuff and *still* only getting 6 hours.
Now, if you had the screen on that entire time, I'd actually say you have great battery life, but I suspect that's not the case.
If it happens with both of your batteries, there has to be something else running on your phone, perhaps as a background service, that's sucking that much juice.
@ OP:
I get like 1 hour call per 18-20% battery on 3G/H. So 6 hours of call time from 100 to 0 is good in my opinion.
If not on calls: I did a stress test 2 days back. I got ~6.5 hours display time for movies from 100 to 5% battery with display at 25%.
So like people pointed out above, unless u r continuously on calls or having display on for atleast 3-4 hours with data transfer on 3g/h, something is wrong.
Here are my normal stats:
1 hour calls, 2 hours display exclusively with data transfer, all these on 3G/H, with about 12 hours standby, I come home with about 35-40% battery left.
I agree with the posters above there is definitely something wrong. Slightly UC & UV I get 6-7h screen time.

A lot of testing with legitimate lab equipment has proven that ProdiCell batteries are not actually 1600mah, rather 1060mah which is actually lower than stock. Sorry if you bought one of their batteries.

Yikes, that would suck if it was something wrong with the phone. I bought it off someone and was practically brand new, but I think it is out of warranty now.
It did this both before and after I had rooted my phone, so I'm not sure what background processes there could be that would be causing this? I know that some of the AT&T bloatware was always running in the background before (like Blockbuster), but I have since removed all of that crap.
I planned on doing some stress-testing today just to see. So far it has been unplugged for 56 minutes with 15 minutes of display time on, a 3 minute phone call, and using the internet for 5 minutes. Also sent/received about 20 SMS. Battery is at 94%.
Maybe I will switch back to the stock battery that came with the phone and see if there is any improvement. The one I am using now is meant for an HTC Desire, but I had read that those with an Inspire were able to use it with improvements. Not sure what brand makes it, but I do know it came from eBay That could be it by itself hah.

Have you tried a battery calibration? It's easy to do manually, but there's a convenient app on market called, wait for it... battery calibration, that makes it a one-click process.
I really doubt it's the phone hardware itself. Probably some combo of battery/calibration/rom/kernel/radio.
BTW, the phone just came out in mid-February, so technically it's not out of warranty. It's like a year or year and a half or something.

When I called HTC in May to order replacement battery/SIM door covers, they said my warranty would run out in the next month. Maybe the CS rep was a moron.
Do a fresh install and calibrate your battery. Use titanium backup to freeze user apps. Add your apps one by one to find out which apps are hogging your battery. Also, try charging it before you go to bed. Take it off the charger, and when you wake, check to see if your phone uses more than 1% battery per hour.

I literally just rooted/flashed my ROM yesterday. I charged the phone back up to 100% today and used that calibration app, and so far it seems to have helped. It definitely uses more than 1% an hour. So far it's at 45% after having been unplugged for 5 hours and 37 minutes, with 2 hours and 4 minutes of display time, 10 minutes of phone calls on 3G, sent/received about 100 texts, checked/downloaded about 20 emails, and taken 10 or so pictures.
Of course, WiFi/Background data/auto-sync/bluetooth/GPS are off, and brightness is at about 40%.
I've got a weird one on this particular battery cycle. I used the battery calibration app before I went to sleep last night and unplugged the phone at 100% charge. While I was asleep...the dialer used 16% of my battery according to my battery stats and the total battery was down into the 60%'s...I searched google, and other sources / forums report a reboot fixes it, and the issue likely occured from a "Wake Lock State" occuring at my last previous phone call the previous evening...ugh hell of a bug...I haven't rebooted it yet, and still notice even plugging and unplugging all day dialer still in low teens for batt. %...seems to be an Android thing although thre seemed to be a preponderance of HTC's...but they are popular devices and there was a Samsung tablet in there with the same thing...
I just got a whole day with 3 hours screen time and gmail and htc sense getting updates, more than 100 texts and 40 minutes of calls and wifi on half the time the battery on this phone is awesome. At night i get maybe 2-3% drain in about 7 hours. I suggest you find a ROM with some UV capabilities, the ones with the oc/uv daemon are great as they already have the settings built in.

Wow, that's pretty good. What ROM are you using?
Doing a nandroid backup, and then gonna flash Gingerbeast after work to see if battery improves or not.
That's another weird thing about my phone; one of the places I work my shifts are only 4 hours long. I go in and the battery is at about 95% because I've been streaming music on the way there. I come out, and it's down to 30%, or less. The funny part is I don't even get a cell signal down there, and when I do I send and receive maybe 20 texts during that time. Nothing else. Don't even turn the display on aside from that.
So, for Gingerbeast, is there a different kernel I need to flash? I was reading a little about it, but as I am still new to this whole thing, I'm not entirely sure what that is. Do I just flash it using CWM? I downloaded one from LordMod that is supposed to help.

Someone asked which ROM I'm using, its the one in my Sig...when you dont have signal I would put it in airplane mode because your phone will search and search for a signal and that kills battery fast.

The reason why you are losing so much battery is your phone is trying to connect to a tower in order to gain service. Switch to airplane mode when at work.

There's the culprit!!! When phone does not have proper signal, it increases the radio power so that it may not lose connection. And when connection comes in, and is good enough, it starts to slowly scale down the power to the radio.
Hahaha, that's awesome. I was thinking the exact same thing as the three posts above me when I was working today... kind of an "oh, duh!" moment, then I come back and check the thread and ya'll confirmed it.
Flashing Gingerbeast right now, so hopefully that will show if it's the ROM or my hardware that's causing the battery drain. Gonna try it out for the rest of the day, though I will miss my Sense 3.0

How is your battery lasting you? I'm coming from a MT4G, even though I eventually modded it, and it I used to get at least a full day and have to charge that night at the worst unless I really heavily used it.
My MT4GS has been lasting me half a day or so before I get into the yellow/red and I'm usually charging before the sun goes down.
My main culprit according to the built in battery indicator is display at 65% (I'm on automatic brightness)
Just over 10 hours today for me before I had to charge.
ps- Anyone know how to remove the annoying low power notifications? I'm getting two pop ups in a row.
Yeah mine generally lasts about 14 hours at moderate usage, but it's only been 2 days, and I remember when I got the MyTouch 4G it died on me while I was still at work and then after a week or so it got much better...
Yeah, I can agree with you there I think my MT4G was a little wonky the first week or so. We'll see how it goes.

Only lasting 6 hours yesterday ....
My battery lasted about 33 hours. After the 1st full charge. So way better than my other phones have done. This wasnt heavy usage though. No videos or music just a few calls, lots of emails and some web browsing.
One problem I am having is low call volume. My videos and music are perfectly loud, just the call volume sucks.

how did you get 33 hours because mine on the 1st day on lasted about 10 hours.
I'm getting 6 hours. Its terrible. This things gonna get flushed down a toilet soon.

Well make sure, your phones screen brightness is on low. Also make sure wifi,gps,bluetooth are off. Also make sure you kill some of the apps you ran on a task manager. just gotta find ways to keep the battery life up.
Well when I first got the phone, I didnt charge it until it was almost dead. Then fully charged it.
Also I turned off GPS, WiFi ect. I also use task manager to kill background programs that I don't need or want running.
We will see if the battery life goes down after a few weeks. Sometimes they take time to normalize.

I appreciate the help but the logic is off. This is the latest ..and i stress smartttphone. It is supsupposed to be used as such. Bluetooth ..4g..music...video calling..maps..etc.. if u use of of these features six hours it will last. If you use them all try maybe 4 hours. Plus those boxes are annoying when the batterly is low. This phone has got to be rooted.

I'm gonna have to agree with that one, that's pretty much no different than saying buy a car but don't drive it so you can save gas lol
I have gotten to around 12 hours or more now. Still moderate overall but heavier browser usage.
I do not kill tasks or turn off wifi, gps or anything. My brightness is auto.
I uninstalled the recent maps update because I saw where G2 users seem to think the recent update is draining their battery so I wondered if it could maybe be causing issues here too.
Anyways my battery life has gotten into the acceptable range and that was all I really did other than have more days to monitor it.

For us this is good because Ebay and Amazon are already flooded with replacement batteries.
We need to find a higher capacity mAh battery but with the same size as to not make us have to get a replacement back. This shouldn't be that hard.
My old phone has a smaller battery with a higher mAh capacity so the battery in the myTouch 4G Slide is an utter disappointment. They could have easily produced a 3000 mAh battery for this beast of a phone.
Edit: Found a 1900 mAh battery for only 9.99.

Screen is on the least bright setting. I'm an ex blackberry user and dont even have one app. I could care less about apps. I'm charging every 5 hours and thats sometimes from just it sitting around/ not even using the phone. The thing better get it's act together. I'm starting to like the keyboard too but I'm up at 5am and if im charging at noon that's terrible. Especially with minimal use.

As I posted in my other thread, battery sucks on this phone. I had to keep wifi off all the day to keep it from dying by 6pm. Funny how 4g speed is so bad in nyc that wifi is the only other option to do something meaningful.

Weird I live in small city and 4G is crazy fast. When I get to a big city like Baltimore, Maryland the 4G was slow. My thoughts are there too many people on the 4G network. T-Mobile did promised us double the 4G speed and they need more Towers too.

For the first couple days, my battery life was awful. I'd be getting low-bat notifications when I got home from an 8-hour day at work.
But of course that's always the case with new phones that haven't even had the settings tweaked...
- Placed a Wifi toggle widget on the homepage and turn it off every day after leaving home for work in the morning.
- Ensured certain programs and updates were not running in the background automatically:
~ Turned off Autosync on accounts (manual only)
~ Turned off autoupdates for weather
~ No Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi, unless turned on for a specific reason
~ Enabled power efficiency and power saver modes (30%)
~ Disabled Always-on data connection
~ Disabled auto-updates in various apps (Friendcaster, IM+ Pro, etc.)
- Turned the screen off when not in use
Today I'm at 40% after 14 hours of mixed use. I'd say that's DAMN good.
By the way, for those seeing the whole "Autosync off" thing and thinking that you can't do it, just do it. I don't get my work email or personal email on my phone unless I tell it to and it's utterly awesome. Less stress. Less looking at my phone constantly. It feels free and just plain great. And I used to be superconnected 24/7 syncing every 5 minutes (if push wasn't available).
I have tried just about EVERY ROM. And I still am only getting around 6 hours of battery life. Is it the ROM, the dumbass user (me), or something else. I keep hearing the fantasy stories of people getting 15 hours on battery while using the phone all day long. Can someone point me in the right direction as far as ROM / Kernel combo that truly does this? Currently on the latest CM7 Nightly and don't like it at all.

I've had it on for about 6 hours and I'm down to 65%. I mean it's not terrible, but considering the phone was in airplane mode for 1.5 hours of that 6 hours, essentially the phone has really only truly been on for 4.5 hours. so I'm losing about 9%/hour.
I've literally tried everything I can to increase battery life but it just won't happen. Let me know if you figure anything out.
Hey you know I have had this phone for about a week, and I have tried all these roms on here and to be honest, the only one that does what I need it to do is the tweaked OTA version. As long as I have root and rom manager I am good. My Battery on any device does not last as long people say. So many things have to be considered. Like whether i am moving into 2g networks or how much i am using it.
The best thing for a battery though is to over charge it for an extra bit and then reset the stats. After dont recharge till it turns off by itself. Then do another over charge.
So by overcharging you mean leave it plugged in even after it says unplug it to conserve battery life
Yeah, when its plugged in it will charge continually and making sure its really fully charged.
I noticed this with my Milestone2, it would say done charging and it wouldnt last very long. So I read up on Battery charging and it said you should leave it charged for an extra hour or so. Only when trying to reach full battery stats.
Of course its ok to use it whenever but once in a while you should do a full drain and then full charge

Plus, most of the people prob on here and doing everything under the sun to thier phones to tweak them. That could be a big reason why the batteries arent lasting so long.
Today I went through 3 different rom changes while at work (3 hours). After finally getting it back to where I was before work, my battery was at 23 percent!
Buy an extended battery off ebay or amazon for around 9-12$ Stock battery i can sometimes get about 12 hours depending on what i use my phone that day. But those 3500mah batteries should at least get you 18-24hrs for sure. Just make sure you cycle thru the battery a few times so it can start performing it's best.
Just put the Miui Rom on. Noiw am getting hang ups in Market on Wifi. I go to download something and it just sits there at starting download Any thought on how I can remedy this issue?
Arrgh...would have been nice if T-Mo and LG had put a working product out to begin with LOL!

It would be helpful to see your battery usage screen. I'll paste mine below. I'm also on CM7 (recent nightly) and I get good battery life IMO. Right now I'm at 8+ hours and I still have 76% left, but I've been at work all day so I've only used it for a few texts and calls and some brief web browsing. Typically I'm a very heavy user, always on, and with the stock battery and that kind of usage I only get 5-6 hours. I have a 4500mah battery and with that I can get up to 2 days of my normal heavy usage with that battery. It just looks like a brick and some people don't like that.
Are you a very heavy user? If so and your phone is constantly on then 6 hours may be all you can get. I think some of the claims people make are a bit misleading because there are so many factors that will influence your battery life.

You should give miui another go with stock kernel and setcpu screen off profile, i get pretty good life.

@ phBurks, I am a very heavy user, Constantly relying on GPS as well as phone and mail since I am on the road all day long. I was hoping for better battery life. May have to get one of those extended batteries mentioned above.

Based on my own person experience the only way to get +8hrs is if I'm on WiFi. On cellular....forget it.
Minimum for me on MIUI is 12 hours... With a good amount of usage, and HSPA+... I use SetCPU though, it helps alot. Best application for saving battery life IMO.

You may be able to squeeze out a couple more hours if you use setcpu (from the Market lol). My suggestion though, if you're that heavy of a user, is you'll either need to keep your phone charging in the car (make sure you have at least a 1amp charger ... I use a 2amp charger in my car to make sure its charging at its max rate), or buy an extended life battery. I recommend the extended battery. There's a 3500mah one over in the accessories section that's pretty cheap and sounds like it works pretty well. I have the 4500mah one from Mugen Power. Its a little more costly but it also lasts a few hours longer than the 3500mah one.

+1 Especially if your kernel supports undervolting, i can successfully uv -100 up to 1100mhz, i rarely need to go over that speed anyways and know i can get a crazy high quadrant score if i overclocked anyways. Settings i have righ tnow for setcpu are:
222mhz - 100 uv
up to 819mhz -100uv
Gets me easily 6-10hrs with lots of usageon stock battery.
It varies. I find that using a CM7 cooked ROM have terrible battery life. I'm sorry, just from my personal experience. Only other app that kills the battery is the GPS.
A Stock Cooked ROM gave me fantastic battery life. But.... its stock, and some things in Stock just can't stand. Also, had random reboots. Maybe I messed around with too much crap in my SD Card. Who knows. If I really wanted to, I could make a ROM stable on my phone. But just can't stand the Stock ROM.
Stock 2.3.3 = 15 hours moderate use
CM 2.3.5 = 8 hours moderate use
Regardless, if you want a long lasting battery, don't get an android. No phone is perfect. Only my battery extender 3500mha but I end up with a PHAT Phone. Plus its not protected by my rubber case.
Thats the only reason I don't use the battery extender.
After completely wiping my phone and installing whitehawkx celebration MIUI 1.9.23 I get awesome battery life. I think before since you had to "hack" 3G to get it working on whitehawkx MIUI was why it wasn't working great.
I'm on the whitehawkx kernel that comes with miui, whichever one that is. I'm going to give trinity a try. Then again, I have no apps installed except for facebook with notifications off and auto-sync off. But good news is my phone is not constantly awake now.

Give Eagleblood 2.3.3 1.07 a try, good battery life with its own kernel. I tried with Faux GB kernel gave me random SOD, and reboot, also took way too long to boot too.

Does anyone know of a good clock / weather widget that doesn't use too much battery life?
So I've acquired an HTC Sensation and have unlocked, rooted, and installed a few ROMs so far. Stock, CM7.1, and Android Revolution HD. That last one is the one I'm on.
My battery life sucks. Whereas my Blackberry Bold 9700 would go one to two days with constant, heavy usage, this phone gets about 4 to 6 hours. My battery graph says that Display is using 80% to 90% of my battery. I've turned off auto-adjust and set the brightness to minimum, it hasn't helped. Am I ****ed?
I've tried other things, underclocked to 1Ghz, different ROMs, battery calibration, no HTC Sense account, no friendstream, disabled background data and autosync. I've tried everything, and yet the display is totally destroying my battery. Keep in mind too, I mentioned the Blackberry, but I've had Android experience before. I'm not a total noob, and I'm not a pro.

That's an LCD screen for you. It will always be the biggest power consumer of this phone. I believe that in general, the screen will always be the biggest power consumer of a phone, but LCD is especially bad. It doesn't help that the Sensation has an average-sized battery either.
That said, I can't believe your battery life is that bad, considering you've underclocked, tried different ROMs, calibrated the battery (although I've heard that this can actually decrease batt life), and disabled background data. Make sure you have matching radio + ril in case you haven't yet. I just can't believe that if you're doing all those battery saving tricks at the same time that your batt life would still be bad. Or did you try those things by themselves? You should try several things at once, but I'm assuming you already have.
LCD screen tech really needs to hit the grave. I like qHD resolution, but otherwise I hate the Sensation's screen. I don't get why so many Sensation owners think it's a good screen. LCD is absolutely worthless outside - I turn brightness all the way up and I can still hardly see it. I don't care if SAMOLED has oversaturated colors - as long as it's usable in any conditions I think it's better. Not only is SAMOLED much brighter and usable, it is much more power efficient than LCD. Honestly the screen alone of the Galaxy Nexus is making me consider it just because I hate the Sensation's screen that much (as well as other things about this phone).
I'm doing them all at once. I flashed the radio that mike (author of the ROM I'm using) suggested because he said the RIL file(s) are built in.
I'll post a battery stats screen cap when I can, but I don't have the means to do so right now.

Edit: There it is. Normally, I don't partial charge, but I had to take it off briefly a few minutes ago. As you can see, it was hitting critical levels around 5 hours in before I threw it back on the charger. The line drops steadily usually when the display is being used.
Here's the shot that claims Display is the culprit.
I feel like android never goes into detail as to how much being on 4G drains your batteries. If you switch to EDGE (2G) only, you could see an improvement in battery life. You can get to it from Settings>Wireless Networks>Mobile Data.
If that doesn't work out for you, consider trying out Juice Defender on the market, it's helped me extend my battery life a considerable amount. It does nothing while you're using your phone, but when your screen is off, it'll disable mobile data, and every 15 min (or 30, you could change this in settings), the phone will enable mobile data for a minute so Facebook/Twitter/Messenging Apps can sync.
Aside from that, you can try turning down the brightness levels.
If you're willing to shell out a little cash, your next option would be to cop an Anker battery from eBay or Amazon. This would help the most, imo.
I have tried many things but so far the biggest thing to affect my battery life is disabling bluetooth. That alone takes about 2% per hour of battery life even if I never use it. My usage is light with some games, mail, and texting. Included is a snapshot of today's random usage. I don't know why but my display isn't listed in the snapshot.
One thing I would check is the spare parts app that hopefully is included in android. Look at the battery history->other usage->since last unplugged. Specifically the percentage of running. Mines says running is 12%, screen on is 4%, wifi on is 83%. If your phone is 100% running, then it is never going to sleep.
Is the Sensation a 4G device? if so, which carrier?
Not real 4G, max speed 14.4 mbps where available for TMOUS.

Ur comparing the sensation to a bb 9700? 9700 is not dual core or a 4.3 inch screen. Androids typically have the worst battery life when compared to iPhones and blackberrys. Also HTC phones usually have the worst battery life out of all the android phones.
How long have u had ur phone? Have u gone through at least 5 charging cycles? Did u calibrate ur battery after flashing new roms?

I have the same problem, more or less.
I had a great improvement installing "juice defender", this app cutting off the 3g as soon as the screen is off, putting it on once every hour to chek mail etc.

it's an improvement, but my battery drain remain awful. I had a HTC HD2, and was used to 4-6 ma, now, if it's under 80, i'm happy...
Turn the brightness down. I only use auto brightness in the daylight. I used a app called dimmer to turn the brightness down to 10. The minimum setting the phone will allow is 30 so dimmer turns it down more. The dimmer app is nice it switches brightness down to 10 and the next click sets it back, so I have it switch between auto and 10. Full brightness will kill your battery fast.

I never directly compared them, I'm just sharing my past experiences. I never expected the sensation to come even close in battery life.
anyhow, ill try juice defender and my Bluetooth and brightness are off and set to low. it just sucks cause I seem to only lose a lot when the screen is on, but I don't want to blame S-LCD because this seems to only affect a small percentage of users.

@OP... don't worry about battery life. I am in the same scene as you are...
Running an HD game would drain by battery in 2 to 3 hrs with lowest brightness and everything off.. My only problem is low network signal...
if you start using your mobile as laptop like playing games etc then you get as much time as a laptop gives u... But if you use it as a phone, out will do all say..
So either change device or line with it..

You can find it under android development for sensation here in xda. I flashed yesterday and with wifi on and all sync on I have 45%. 12 hours from the last charge.

I will most definitely try this when I return from work. I may have to flash cyanogenmod, which seems to give me slightly better life. is the stock AR HD kernel really that bad?
edit: okay I went ahead and flashed the bricked kernel while at work. hope it helps, but I lost 10% battery to do it and I'm down to 20% left. we'll see how it does.
From what I read we have a new faux kernel. You can check it after bricked.
Hey guys. Small update.
I am recalibrating the battery, again, yet something special is happening this time. I ran the phone down and it played a 1080p video on max brightness with wifi, bluetooth, gps, background data all on. It played the video for 15 to 20 minutes while sitting at 0%! Now, I'm currently recharging it and best part, it's been at 100% and still charging, orange LED and all, for about 40 minutes now. Considering my charger charges at .75A an hour, thats something like .50ish A, or 500mAH that I didn't have before. That could explain my pathetic battery life. Imagine if it charges at 100% for an hour! That's 750 mAH that I lost due to bad calibration, half my battery!
Hopefully with a few more cycles, and some good luck, my battery meter will correct itself and I'll see regular battery life!
edit: Two hours In, I'm overclocked to 1.5ghz, have max brightness, wifi, GPS, Bluetooth all on. background data and auto sync enabled. the screen has been on almost the entire time. current battery? 40%! that's with constant interaction, at times, I was playing games and listening to music at the same time. I mean Im using this phone to the max and its performing incredibly.
in real life, I will underclock to 1 or 1.2ghz (still an underclock since the system is clocked at 1.5ghz default) and wont have the screen on the entire time, so I shouldn't have a hard time making it through a day with moderate to heavy use I also never really use BT and wifi is a rarity. background data will likely stay enabled, but we'll see.
please excuse grammar, on the sensation right now and I just gave up the BB 9700 keyboard just two days ago, one of the only good things about that phone!
edit2: okay so I ran down the phone. it shut down just minutes before the 3 hour mark. this is very exciting because my battery barely decreases while the screen is off. on Max brightness and wifi/GPS/Bluetooth/4G on, and the screen on for all but about 10 minutes, I got about 3 hours. this is exceptional. ill do a real world test tomorrow and report back, but things are looking up. currently, brightness is set to auto, wifi is off, GPS and Bluetooth are off, processor is clocked at 1.2ghz. very excited that this one calibration actually did something!
also, I consider HSPA+ to be 4G cause its about 10 times faster than any 3G out there and it's actually been official for a while.

So its been a few days, but here's what I did to get acceptable battery - all at once:
Flash a Cyanogenmod rom, HyperSensation, the other one, Selfkang or whatever is a MAJOR battery destroyer for me. Any kernel, any clock speed, I'd lose 5 to 10% an hour just idling. I lost 15% alone playing 4 mp3s through my AUX cable. Not saying it's like this for everyone, but it was for me.
Flashed Faux's kernel, Joe's RCU from his thread.
Underclocked to 1.08Ghz while the screen is on, 540Mhz while the screen is off.
Undervolted the processor using FauxClock to -37.5mV, might go even lower if it's stable.
Ordered a 1900mAh ChiChiTech battery from Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/CHICHITEC-T-mobile-Sensation-Cellphone-Battery/dp/B0057US9YW - whether or not it's 1900mAh doesn't really apply, but what does is that I instantly got 20% more and I'm not even done conditioning. It's only 23 bucks, two for thirty. I was so anxious to try to get a battery that I next-dayed it for 17 bucks.
I'm a moderate to heavy user, I used some wifi hotspot today, automatic brightness for the display, background data and auto-sync, listening to standup comedy mp3s for 1.5 to 5 hours a day, web for probably 30 minutes to an hour a day, and today specifically, 45 minutes of Legends of Yore (fun rogue-like!) and 15 minutes of Age of Zombies.
Only two thirds of my battery used and I've been off the charger for 13 hours. My old battery would have given out about 6 hours ago, and that's if I cut my activity in half.
Anyhow, problem's solved, but I figured it'd be a good read for anyone in a similar boat.
