Early Adopter Taking Stock....

I will assume that most of us on this board are early adopters, geek-heads, nerds or other types that just need their gadget fix.
We were all disappointed that the Thunderbolt went from one release date to another and another and another. When the product finally launched we all went through various motions of discounts, opening up new phone lines, equipment swapping with spouse, etc. I switched from ATT iPhone 4 to VZW the day after the TBolt Launch.
With all the little nuances (battery life, 4G/3G disconnects, etc) - I am extremely happy with what I have in my hands. We begged and begged for a product release and now we have it in hand. Half-baked? Not really (I have the Xoom, and I don't think that is half-baked). This piece of machinery rocks hardcore. Had the Atrix had the Inspire. But what made me do it was the 4G LTE radio. They all have minor problems (from my use cases). I really enjoy this handheld. I was begging for a product launch as soon as possible. Now that I have it - I will not complain. The paint is almost dry folks. Hang in there. I consider myself one of the fortunate users that were able to pickup a Thunderbolt.
Issues aside as an early adopter, are you happy with your Thunderbolt?
On a side note, I'm on my 3rd 17" Macbook Pro early 2011 Quad-Core due to over-heating issues. Yeah, it's from Apple - nothing is perfect.

The only thing I'm not happy with is the battery life while on LTE. I've got the toggle switch in there now but it's a pain to change it if I'm already in the middle of something, so I end up just leaving it on 3G all the time unless I'm doing something specific that benefits from the (awesome) speed bump. I'm hopeful that in the near future some of the battery-managing apps (JuiceDefender, etc.) will be updated to include LTE on/off options, so that for example I can have 4G turn off automatically when my phone's screen is off, or when my battery gets below 25%.

I am actually happy with the phone for the most part. The phone is VERY fast. I had a DroidX before and I thought that was a fast Android phone. The Thunderbolt is noticeably more snappier than the X though. The only time it lags is installing stuff from the market. Otherwise, it's blazing fast which I love.
Im in San Diego and the 4G coverage is AWESOME here. No drops or anything. The low latency on the 4G network makes the phone seem even faster when using apps like facebook. On the 3G network, it used to take a couple seconds for the network to respond, but now, data connections establish almost instantly.
The only thing that kills it is the battery. It makes the phone virtually unusable. It's like a Corvette with a 3 gallon gas tank. Sure it's fast, sexy and sleek, but you can only go about 50-60 miles before you're strandred on the side of the road and people are laughing at how your new performance machine has become a giant paperweight.
If no patch or fix comes out that at least marginnally improves the battery life, I might have to shell out full price for a Droid Bionic when it comes out. Moto seems to know how to make batteries. My Droid X battery EASILY last 18+ hours with good usage. My buddy's Atrix goes over 2 days on a charge. Then again, maybe crappy battery will be the price of admission when it comes to LTE. It's possible the Bionic will have atroicious battery life as well.

I've had a G1 since it first came out over 2 years ago, then got a G2 when it came out and the battery life was no where near my old "cell phone" as far as lasting that long.
Now compared to my laptop, I would say it was better than the laptop was.
I remember hearing these same complaints when Android phones first came out (Iphones for that matter as well).
So I guess I'm wondering what people consider poor? If I can get a good 8-10 hours with moderate use, I'm happy (and it's about what I would expect).
So what are your expectations?

I am pretty happy with my Thunderbolt.
I live in a 4G area, but I can tell at work, I am getting close to the edge of 4G range and my battery life is worse at work as a result. Overall, the battery is fairly comparable to my OG Droid battery life. In both cases I have kept my phone on the charger while at work. I will probably buy a spare battery for my Tbolt. I did that with my droid and never regretted it. I am not interested in the extra size from the extended battery.
I am happier with Sense than I thought I would be. It is sleek, responsive, and I find it makes a more pleasant experience.

I love the phone, but I'm still on the fence about whether or not to keep it. I'm past my 14 days, but I've always had good luck with selling my phones on Craigslist for almost twice what I pay. I put a listing on Craigslist to see what I could get and have offers already ranging from $200-$550.
Anyways, battery life and signal are my main issues. I'm also upset that when shooting video I can't hear a damn thing when playing it back.
On battery, I wake up for work and after charging my phone all night my battery is at 85% within 20 minutes. I thought my Samsung epic had bad battery life, but this is horrible. Im in a 4g area at home, and even with WiFi only on and most apps closed, battery is still bad. I can't even make it until noon without the battery being completely drained.
My other issue is signal. 4g is awesome when it works. However, I can sit in one spot and have full 3G but the phone constantly drops to 1X or no signal. My coworker has been beside me with her droidx and her phone maintains the full 3G signal. Same with another coworkers OG Droid .It's annoying to have a great phone with service that is constantly going in and out, or that can never be used to its full potential or used the way I want to use it, for fear of a dropped signal or dead battery.
I have a backup battery on the way so for now I'm gona deal with it. However, if the video recording isn't fixed with an update and I my signal issues persist I may have to sell my TB.

Poor = phone dropping a percent every few minutes of use. This morning it went from 100 to 80 within a hour and I hadnt used the phone for anything at all.. just turned on the screen a few times to check the battery level.
I might be spoiled by the Droid X because I never worried about the battery on that phone. With the Thunderbolt, Im always trying to keep it on a charger when Im not using it because it discharges so quickly.. I dont want to get stuck somewhere without a phone.

I love this phone, I love the development that's going on with it, and I can only see it getting better. Sure, there are some minor things, like GPS/Battery/Screen.. but I think it can all be worked through.

I'm wondering what you have running in the backgroud that could be sucking up your battery. I've had mine off charge since 6am this morning. It's now almost 1:30 and I'm still at 79% charge. I've been using it to make some calls and play a game or two, check my emails when I get a notification and some web searches.
All of my android phones have been about the same.

I love it.

I don't really agree with this. I'm coming from the D2 and I could hardly ever make it the whole day without charging. Really no different from the The imo. Plus I don't think motos build quality was that good either. I was never really happy with that phone.

Just got my TB yesterday. Speed Test is surprising though. I am getting 6-8 Mbps down but my upload is crazy fast 30-40 Mbps. Is this odd from what others are seeing? Been trying it in different locations and the pattern seems consistent so far.

I haven't really had any issues. I love this phone.

I think the biggest complaint can be summed up this way. For HOW the Bolt was shipped, most people feel that they shouldnt have to tweak ANYTHING for it to last them all day. I, to a point agree, however, with that said look at any new computer. Can you pull it out of the box and just run it? Sure you can and it will work well for the AVERAGE user. Now, someone with more knowledge will want MORE out of their computer. Its the same with the battery life. Those of us that use it MORE will see crappy battery life. Why? Because were using it more.
Tips/tricks/apps and what not are for people that are going to use their phone MORE than the AVERAGE user will. My mom gets two days out of her Droid 2 before she has to charge it. ALL of her settings/themes/everything is stock out of the box and never bump charged. My sister has the EXACT same phone and was getting a single day use out of it. I installed JD on both of their phones, and my sister gets a little over a day and a half and my mom gets about two and a half days. My mom RARELY touches her phone while my sisters constantly using it. Two separate users, two separate charge times. One gets amazing battery life, the other complains about how short the battery lasts.
So, if you use your phone more than the AVERAGE user, expect below average battery life. This phone IS a battery hog, I will say that, but then again, my phones in my hand and Im playin with it every chance I get. ;-)
On this one, both parties are right and wrong. So agree to disagree, take the steps to get better battery life or move on. Its getting redic with the amount of threads there are dedicated to this topic.

And idle power draw was a mind blowing 1mA, sometimes 3mA. That is just superb standby power. Same improved snap dragon CPU, RAM, etc I'd think the thunderbolt would be the same.

Different radios, different processors,different screen types = different power consumption

I did notice on the stock fimware before i rooted that the idle usage was virtually nothing. WAY better than my vibrant was. It seems since ive rooted and undervolted ive lost some battery life, but man the performance is so worth it.
Anyway, we are carrying around full computers with broadband speeds. im not complaining about battery life.

If only.
My Bolt's (stock, rooted, custom rom, whatever) idle drain is about 36-40mA with bounces up to 90mA quite frequently.

Ok guys I apologize. A week ago I setup the current widget on 2 thunderbolt units here at the local Verizon store. Both collected data for a full week.
I just looked at the data and both phones stay at 34mA during idle time. Day after fly, over and over the results were identical, on both units. And they stayed on during the night too!
The bad part is that I did the same on the stock inspire at ATT, and that phone hit 1-3mA doing the same idle use. Which is a superb result. My nexus one stays around 5 mA.
So no wonder the thunderbolt sees worst battery life. You are gonna have to try a different ROM, or remove the crap stuff running.
Interesting though, perhaps Verizon has something running on the ROM. Go stock!

I had good battery capacity when mine was stock. It would last all day. Now if I played with the thing constantly it wouldn't. Using it here and there, I would never hit yellow.
I have tweaked it to get more batt life. I keep the screen on low setting unless I am outside and can't see it. Keep GPS/BT/WIFI off until i need it, and I shut the screen off when I am not actively using it. If you go under information, the screen uses the most battery life. Nothing to do with sense. Even GPS didn't come close to the screen usage. So I make sure the screen is off unless I am actively using it.

Hmm, that's not good. I can confirm that both my Nexus One and nexus S draw about 5mA. Any thoughts on what might be causing the bolt to draw 7 times the amount of power. Is there any way to monitor it?

I really don't know what the reason is other than to say its just the stock ROM. In the other battery thread multiple people posted saying their thunderbolt only hit 30mA during idle. So I was skeptical but not anymore. Particularly because both working devices I checked had such damn similar results, both a little over 30mA. And there was a ton of data, from 2 devices, matching what this forum claims. Only suggestion is use another ROM.
Related story though. Previously I used the same ROM install for 5 months on my n1, and at the end the phone would only hit 50mA during idle over night. Presumably from just months of my data, app installs, etc. Clean flash took it right back to 5mA. Even with all apps re installed. So there is something to lots of crap loaded. Anecdotal, but proof enough for me.

the biggest battery hog for me is the screen, as long as you turn it off when your not using it and keep the auto - lock to 15s battery shouldnt be an issue for anyone

ALso, Juice Defender Beta has been updated on the market, and works well with the TB now.

I'm running the Virus Rom with Adrynalyne's 4.1b Kernel and I **** you not, last night I left my phones screen on (because its set to never dim but I should have the app control that now that I think of it) for 8 hours while I slept. Woke up and looked over at my phone lying on my nightstand with the screen on, picked it up and it was at 20% battery left. I think I passed out when it had 80% but I can't be sure (damn this Kraken Rum)
Either way. People with battery life complaints. I...I pity you.

That's about the same as I got off my OG Droid
this is not a signature I type it in every time maybe sent from my phone or my computer

I'm getting about the same as my d1 running gingerbread. I'm still getting the extended battery too though. VZW is giving it to me for 18 dollars...

disagree with most of this. i had a droid x prior and am using this device exaclty as much as i did that one. my battery life if HALF what the x was. and before you ask, i've had 4g toggled off continuously for the last week and have seen only marginal improvement.
i realize the t-bolt and the x have different processors/screens/radios, etc, but all-in-all they are pretty close performance-wise when i comes to everyday use. i can see the t-bolt having marginally worse battery life than the droid x, that would be a reasonable expectation. but HALF? sorry, not buying it.
i can't think of any other explanation than that the firmware
htc pushed out on this thing is flawed. not a dev though, so maybe i'm dumb...

If anything you should see improved battery life since the newer snap dragon is more power efficient, etc.

In the end, were talking about the Bolt, not the X. The X in this case is 100% irrelevant. You can disagree all you want, but my point still stands strong.

No battery complaints here. Half on 3g and half on 4g. This is with the htc extended battery. Running chingys rom with ziggy's latest bfs kernel oced to 1.49. Kik running the whole time.

You can't compare the X to the thunderbolt. The X has a bigger battery to begin with, so you can't judge power efficiency based on uptime.

i'm not following you logic here. the droid x is a direct competitor. we're talking apples to apples here. it's significantly better in the battery area. i had an original droid before that and it was much better. how can that be irrelevant?
your notion that "this is just how smartphones are. you knew what you were getting so deal with it" is just plain wrong. we are discussing whether the battery life on the thunderbolt is a weakness or not. look at posts #5 and #6! you're telling me that's normal?
the idea that there are more people praising battery life on this thing than are complaining about it is wrong too. pop over the the htc forums and see the number one beef is over there. go into a verizon store and mention "thunderbolt battery life" to a tech and watch them roll their eyes.
bottom line: the thunderbolt is great in a lot of ways, but for a large percentage of us the battery life is pretty crappy, and for no good reason.

So...Was the Thunderbolt worth it? Battery the main issue?

Well with all this 1 year contract stuff coming to an end i've noticed that I may need to switch from my Incredible to a thunderbolt. I love my incredible, esp flashing the many different roms that have been created. I've read a TON of reviews and everyone pretty much says its super fast, similiar to evo, and the battery sucks. Let me ask you this, when new roms emerge will custom kernals and such save the battery life? Is the battery life compared at all of a TBOLT to a Incredible? Right now im running warms z with chads 12/23 kernel and im seeing a good full day with more usage than an average person (always have wifi,bluetooth off). Should I take the 1 year contract plunge before the 17th of this month? Or maybe buy the Tbolt and put on ebay with just 1 more year to use my current incredible? And please tell me your daily usage and batt. life currently with your Thunderbolt. Thanks, and yes i've searched a ton.

Theres answers to all your questions already if you look around and read a bit and theirs already Custom roms/kernals with undervolted cpu to increase battery life.

If you read my thread i stated that i have searched and read a lot of reviews. I just want honest answers whether the people that have bought this would buy it again.

Well worth IMO... I change phones ALOT, and I have had ALL of them. I don't see myself leaving the Thunderbolt anytime soon.
Why??? Fast and ****, both phone and data, my bluetooth keeps my music playing through my truck even if I take the phone into a gas station with me, GPS is fast and solid as a rock, Speaker sounds great, screen is superb (dark and light), call quality is excellent, and for the past few weeks I have had it.... NOT ONE stall or hiccup. I'm sold.
I honestly can't say there is anything I don't like.
After switching the Kernel and conditioning the battery I see more than adequate life... For the record, I shut nothing off, I didn't by this beast just so I can shut all the good stuff off. Somedays I get a little buckwild and tap into my car charger but otherwise... No complaints.

Are you in an 4g area? I don't think my area supports it as of yet. With moderate use your getting through a full day with the battery?

I got to agree with DroidTh3ory 100%
I too have had just about all the high-end and many low-end android phones.
I must say hands down, there is no other device that can compare to the sheer quality of build, and its down right stupefying speed.
I have 0 complaints to make about the battery, yea maybe its slightly not as great as other phones, but like that picture above, it will last you all day.
just to add, im running mine at 1.4ghz undervolted.

Thunderbolt is worth it imo, but I am thinking about getting extended battery. I need to constantly check my email and voice calls so I'm going to be losing juice much faster than the average user.
Aside from battery issues, this thing is blazing fast. Imo faster than atrix

Build quality has been great (just like my DInc) and there are a TON of developers that are creating ROM's for the device. Soon, CM7 will be out for it and I think there are a ton of people looking forward to that.
As far as battery life goes, it's a 4.3" screen and it's a 4G device. Complaining about battery life on this device is like buying a GT500/Viper and saying you love the speed, you love the features, but you just hate the gas mileage. It's par for the course and if you use the phone a lot, your battery life will suffer. Flash a better kernel and you can improve it somewhat though. FWIW, I can get a full day out of it and honestly, that's all I need.

Yep, smack dab in the middle LTE spread for my area. Emails, texts, calls, alot of Navigation, and my Bluetooth is almost always connected to my truck so I can rock out. Even before the Kernel switch I made through the day, but after the switch I have some to spare for those REAL busy days.
FYI, I conditioned my battery on the first day with my first 3 charges.

I when from the Htc Droid Eris to the Thunderbolt and the 1st few days encountered "battery issues". I haven't rooted the phone yet but i did those tips on changing a few settings around and i unplug my phone at 8 am when i leave my house and plug it again when i get a notification that is at 25% at around 11:30. i use it a good amount of time during the day and spend my lunch break (about and hour) just surfing.
Once the phone is rooted there are A LOT of things that you can do to improve it even more. My advice do it yesterday! lol.
P.S. Btw i live in NYC and have not noticed any 3G, 4G swapping between services, it has all been 4G.

Im getting the itch. For the most part though verizon is forcing me to sign another 1 yr contract bc they are cancelling it on April 17th. Its gonna be weird to be stock until some solid roms and kernels are developed.

Yep, the Battery Conditioning App (link below) works great... Wiping the battery stats in Clockwork does the same thing also but I like this because it deletes the "batterystats.bin" system file without having to restart, and the OS can't create a new one until the battery is conditioned (reboot).

I'm getting great battery life on adrynalyne's new kernel and ROM. No regrets switching from my D1 running CM7 with prime's kernel. Would love to see prime dev on the TB as his was the best kernel for my Droid, but I can't complain at all with how I'm doing

Battery life was horrid, as expected, out of the box. After rooting, getting rid of bloat and running a cpu throttle I average around <10mah when idle. Not to say that it doesn't suck juice when I'm using it, though. But, it's well worth it. The phone is fast as hell.

It's the US 4G Edition of the HTC Desire HD...what's not to love? When the Inspire was one month in after release, there was hardly any dev at all except a complicated gold card root method and now its got MIUI and a lot of other rom choices... This phone hasn't been out for even a month and we've got simple root and strong dev support... I've also owned a Dinc and a bunch of other devices and I'm quite happy with my Thunderbolt

Dude...the phone is totally worth it. I've just installed the new Das BAMF 1.4 with the new Adrynalyne kernel, and my battery life is teriffic! Phone has been unplugged for 13 hours, and i'm still at 65%

Woah woah woah you're getting less than 10mA idle current draw? Can you explain exactly what rom, kernel, and settings you are using? I've tried just abouteverything I can and i bounce between 36-40 with frequent spikes to 100. Thanks.

I think its well worth it. Yes, battery life is far from great. However, its only slightly worse than what I experienced on my Samsung Epic. I'm in a 4G area the majority of my day, but sometimes travel outside of it for work. Coming from Sprint and being used to unlimited data, I use my phone all day. I listen to music, whether Pandora or iheart radio (my trucks stereo recently just stopped working ) all day traveling between job sites, check email quite frequently, txt and gtalk literally all day long, and make about 25-30+ calls on average a day. I also have all 4 of my email accounts set to check mail every 5 minutes for work during the hours of 5am-10pm every day, which i know contributes to my battery drain, but its necessary that I get my mail as soon as possible for my business.
Considering my usage, I think the phone handles quite well. Yes, I wish it was better, and yes it does drain quickly at times, especially in the morning even if I change some settings. However, I keep a spare battery on hand as I have done with all of my past Android phones. I have no regrets about buying the phone, except for the video recording issues I've experienced. If you love Android and rooting, I really don't see what their is to think about.

I'm tired of seeing all these battery threads of people saying " I get 18-24 hours of life off a single charge! " To you people I'm saying bs, the only way your getting this kind of life is if your not using your phone. So quit trying to say your a " power user " when your not. Fact is you don't use your phone hardly at all and are trying to " look cool " by making people think that you have some super thunderbolt....lol.
So that being said I take my bolt off the charger at 6am and can burn through the battery by 1030am. I am a power user. Now I will go ahead and post my screen shots of last night and this will show you why I'm calling bs on all these battery threads. The phone was pulled off at 100% charge, on wifi all night really no use besides email and whatever android runs at idle.
Let's all face it, the battery life sucks on the tbolt. As well as the dinc...

If I leave my phone doing nothing for 24 hours, it might last all that time, but as soon as the screen comes off and I do anything with it, all bets are off. Simple texting causes the phone to discharge at the rate of 1 percent/minute. 1400 mah is just too small of battery for this device.. dont know what HTC was thinking. They should have left off the kick stand and made the entire rear of the phone all battery.

Talked with HTC last night. Patch coming out in a week or 2 that will address this issue. Its the way the modem is talking to the system.. Pulling way too much power even when 4G is idle.

Meaningless screenshots on their own. You have to dig into each subscreen and show how long the things were in use to be meaningful. Sure, you're Display used 57% of the battery juice that's been used, but how long was the screen on? 5 hours of the 13? That would be damn good battery life in my opinion. If it was on only 1 hour, maybe you have issues.
A real "power user" would just suck it up and buy the extended battery or buy a cheap spare and keep it in their pocket/wallet if they're going to be away from a charger the whole day. That's what I did, and it's big, ugly and heavy, but the Thunderbolt with the extended battery lasts this "power user" all day long most of the time.

Obviously you need to dig into each subscreen to get a better analysis. However I'm just posting on par with what others are going off of. Also I think you misunderstood my post. I'm not complaining about my battery life, my phone lasts as long as I need it to, which is nowhere near those hours on regular use. I was simply just staying a point towards all the battery threads.

We all know that the Bolt has battery issues, why are we all so hung up on beating a dead dog? HTC is coming out with a revision until then suck it up and move on to more important things.........

Hmmm screen on for 2 hours straight and only dropped 20%. That means i should end up with about 10 hours with constant use. Seems pretty good to me since I wont be keeping it on for the whole time.

sounds like you need a tablet, not a phone. these phones are not meant to be constantly on for hours. if thats the case - 4-5 hrs is great when you compare the zsize of the tbolt to the ipad which gets 10 hours.

Well said! I respect your thread because I know what you mean and you are RIGHT! You are not complaining just stating facts. I kind of hate it when people grasp a hold of that "brand loyalty" mentality. Just because I purchased and own this phone (and like it too) doesn't mean I have to overlook and/or deny its flaws. That is how things get improved, with honest feedback. The Thunderbolt is an amazing device, probably the best phone I ever owned and I purchase a new smartphone about every six months. But make no mistake, it has a battery issue. Great to hear that HTC is on it, I knew they would be.

Exactly. I take mine off at about 545 every morning and make it till about 600 at night streaming music over bt all day. Personally I love the extended battery.

The only reason you got bad battery life is you sit on 4G and, judging from your screenshot, were most likely downloading a million files at once while listening to music or something. You didn't use anything outside of the OS. This isn't stating facts, its stating personal experience. I am one of the people that can actually get 7-8 hours of use from this phone, and yes I actually USE the phone. So again, this thread = retarded. There were at least four other battery threads to complain in.

I agree with the OP, you guys need to stop bragging about to battery life, everyones definition of using the phone as a normal, or power user or whatever is totally different. On a good day, ill get 12 hours with the screen off for about 6-8 hours, others, ill get like 2 hours tops.
It all varies and you guys need to stop bashing the OP, hes just trying to prove a point and honestly hes right, everyone is different. You could just text a couple of times a day and think youre a power user because you have the speed and power of 4g

There are two sides, some people use the phone one way and are unimpressed by the battery life. Others use the phone a different way and are impressed by the battery life. One side likes to complain that it sucks, the other side likes to say that it's great. Who are you to tell the happy people they should STFU? Likewise, who are the satisfied people to tell the complainers to STFU? HTC & Verizon clearly struck a midpoint with battery life and gave the heavy users an optional heavy battery. Threads like this are truly a waste of space though. If you don't like the battery life, buy an extra or extended battery, or return the phone. If you do like the battery life, great, but a thread on poor battery life is just as useless as a thread on good battery life. There is nothing that will change by making it "known" that the battery life is poor or great since only the end user can make that judgement.

My MT4GS has been lasting me half a day or so before I get into the yellow/red and I'm usually charging before the sun goes down.
My main culprit according to the built in battery indicator is display at 65% (I'm on automatic brightness)
Just over 10 hours today for me before I had to charge.
ps- Anyone know how to remove the annoying low power notifications? I'm getting two pop ups in a row.

Yeah mine generally lasts about 14 hours at moderate usage, but it's only been 2 days, and I remember when I got the MyTouch 4G it died on me while I was still at work and then after a week or so it got much better...

Yeah, I can agree with you there I think my MT4G was a little wonky the first week or so. We'll see how it goes.

Only lasting 6 hours yesterday ....

My battery lasted about 33 hours. After the 1st full charge. So way better than my other phones have done. This wasnt heavy usage though. No videos or music just a few calls, lots of emails and some web browsing.
One problem I am having is low call volume. My videos and music are perfectly loud, just the call volume sucks.

how did you get 33 hours because mine on the 1st day on lasted about 10 hours.

I'm getting 6 hours. Its terrible. This things gonna get flushed down a toilet soon.

Well make sure, your phones screen brightness is on low. Also make sure wifi,gps,bluetooth are off. Also make sure you kill some of the apps you ran on a task manager. just gotta find ways to keep the battery life up.

Well when I first got the phone, I didnt charge it until it was almost dead. Then fully charged it.
Also I turned off GPS, WiFi ect. I also use task manager to kill background programs that I don't need or want running.
We will see if the battery life goes down after a few weeks. Sometimes they take time to normalize.

I appreciate the help but the logic is off. This is the latest ..and i stress smartttphone. It is supsupposed to be used as such. Bluetooth ..4g..music...video calling..maps..etc.. if u use of of these features six hours it will last. If you use them all try maybe 4 hours. Plus those boxes are annoying when the batterly is low. This phone has got to be rooted.

I'm gonna have to agree with that one, that's pretty much no different than saying buy a car but don't drive it so you can save gas lol

I have gotten to around 12 hours or more now. Still moderate overall but heavier browser usage.
I do not kill tasks or turn off wifi, gps or anything. My brightness is auto.
I uninstalled the recent maps update because I saw where G2 users seem to think the recent update is draining their battery so I wondered if it could maybe be causing issues here too.
Anyways my battery life has gotten into the acceptable range and that was all I really did other than have more days to monitor it.

This appears to be the same battery that is in the Sensation 4G according to Google.
For us this is good because Ebay and Amazon are already flooded with replacement batteries.
We need to find a higher capacity mAh battery but with the same size as to not make us have to get a replacement back. This shouldn't be that hard.
My old phone has a smaller battery with a higher mAh capacity so the battery in the myTouch 4G Slide is an utter disappointment. They could have easily produced a 3000 mAh battery for this beast of a phone.
Edit: Found a 1900 mAh battery for only 9.99.

Screen is on the least bright setting. I'm an ex blackberry user and dont even have one app. I could care less about apps. I'm charging every 5 hours and thats sometimes from just it sitting around/ not even using the phone. The thing better get it's act together. I'm starting to like the keyboard too but I'm up at 5am and if im charging at noon that's terrible. Especially with minimal use.

This appears to be the same battery that is in the Sensation 4G according to Google.
For us this is good because Ebay and Amazon are already flooded with replacement batteries.
We need to find a higher capacity mAh battery but with the same size as to not make us have to get a replacement back. This shouldn't be that hard.
My old phone has a smaller battery with a higher mAh capacity so the battery in the myTouch 4G Slide is an utter disappointment. They could have easily produced a 3000 mAh battery for this beast of a phone.
Edit: Found a 1900 mAh battery for only 9.99.

I've found the slide version there too for $11.99. I've wonder how long it will last with that battery.

There must be something wrong. Mine lasts about that long playing videos and games, messing with the camera, web browsing etc..

As I posted in my other thread, battery sucks on this phone. I had to keep wifi off all the day to keep it from dying by 6pm. Funny how 4g speed is so bad in nyc that wifi is the only other option to do something meaningful.

Weird I live in small city and 4G is crazy fast. When I get to a big city like Baltimore, Maryland the 4G was slow. My thoughts are there too many people on the 4G network. T-Mobile did promised us double the 4G speed and they need more Towers too.

For the first couple days, my battery life was awful. I'd be getting low-bat notifications when I got home from an 8-hour day at work.
But of course that's always the case with new phones that haven't even had the settings tweaked...
- Placed a Wifi toggle widget on the homepage and turn it off every day after leaving home for work in the morning.
- Ensured certain programs and updates were not running in the background automatically:
~ Turned off Autosync on accounts (manual only)
~ Turned off autoupdates for weather
~ No Bluetooth, GPS, Wifi, unless turned on for a specific reason
~ Enabled power efficiency and power saver modes (30%)
~ Disabled Always-on data connection
~ Disabled auto-updates in various apps (Friendcaster, IM+ Pro, etc.)
- Turned the screen off when not in use
Today I'm at 40% after 14 hours of mixed use. I'd say that's DAMN good.
By the way, for those seeing the whole "Autosync off" thing and thinking that you can't do it, just do it. I don't get my work email or personal email on my phone unless I tell it to and it's utterly awesome. Less stress. Less looking at my phone constantly. It feels free and just plain great. And I used to be superconnected 24/7 syncing every 5 minutes (if push wasn't available).
