Sensation wins because of customization and balance but the reviewer said if you want speed then go with the G2X which is noticeably faster. I'm still trying to decide which one I keep and which one my wife gets.
Conclusion:
Sensation: Pretty and Customization
G2X: Ram power and a speed demon.
I hate these dogfights they are pretty unfair. we all know stock is usually faster than sense. Have the sensation running stock like the g2x and it would be a different story. But hey when we get s-off and root then we will see which is better.

I actually agree with that outcome. thing is, the extra speed isn't enough for me to overlook just how many problems I had with the g2x. honestly it's not that much faster anyway, and the sensation looks straight up glossy

Ok so when I see these quadrant tests and the sensation always finishes them first. But they say the phone is slower. Is there something I don't know about quadrant?

Well this can go both ways. The dogfight is comparing them both as stock devices but if you consider that the G2X is rooted with 5 ROMS to choose from, then you could say that the G2X is more customizable due to ROM choices and Root. Besides, the G2X will probably always be faster due to it pushing out less pixels for the display and the fact that Tegra II runs off of the new A9 architecture while the Snapdraggon in the Sensation runs off of the old A8.

You cannot base everything off Sensation,
its like two cars you cant run everything off Horse POWER. you have to take many other things into consideration.
Its good at whats its doing, rather that giving you base android that looks bland, it gives you a cool UI and widgets etc, so it is still running those and doing everything.
Quadrant is not a true representation of your phone speed,
look at how you would use it everyday, are you going to quadrant your phone everyday placing stres tests on it, or do you want a dual core processor to read your emails browse the internet, play games even
Also if you think about it, your sensation has a QHD higher resolution display so it will display a lower score than g2x. if g2x had the same qhd screen, it probably would perform as the sensation did.
Put the sensation on vanilla android with no sense ui and benchmark it ;p

The only phone worth taking over the Sensation (if you want its extra features and power) is the Galaxy S II, if you don't want the Sensation and can't get the Galaxy S II yet, wait for it.
I think most people would agree that they would rather have a well polished HTC device than the LG.

The Snapdragon processor is a Scorpion, NOT an A8. Qualcomm has a license to create their own ARM SoCs. It is based off the ARM v.7 instruction set (as is the A8 and A9) but the architecture of the chip is completely separate from either of those chipsets. In some ways the A9 performs better, in some ways the Scorpion performs better. But the Scorpion is a separate branch of ARM processor and does not fall into the traditional ARM processor types.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't it use the MSM8260?
MSM8260 is based on ARM's Cortex A8 design. This means its CPU core should perform similar to current/second generation Snapdragons (Nexus One, HTC Evo, Droid Incredible, Dell Streak, HTC G2 etc) at the same clock speed. Since it features two cores, and clocked at least 20% higher than those, it should perform up to 2.4x faster. This of course assumes the OS can fully utilize two cores and applications are aware of multi-core presence. Similarly, MSM8x60 CPU core should not perform significantly better than the current generation OMAP processors from Texas Instrument, such as OMAP3640 (featured in Droid X, Droid 2, etc). And lastly, Samsung's Hummingbird (featured in Samsung Galaxy S series phones) will also perform similarly.

It is the MSM8260, but is not based on the ARM A8 design. While most companies license an ARM architecture and then tweak it (Hummingbird with A8, Tegra 2/EXYNOS/OMAP4440 with A9) Qualcomm instead buys the license to the ARM v.7 instruction set then builds their own architecture from scratch. The Scorpion processor is capable of out of order processing and having dual cores, both impossible with the A8 then implemented in the A9. If it were based off the A8, neither would be possible.
Here is some good information on the different approaches by different companies and some of the advantages of each (scroll about halfway down to where it talks about processors)

Ah, I see. The great thing about Android is that, out of the box, any phone is highly customizable. Even without rooting you can change so much about your phone interface with custom launchers, replacement of default apps, themes, etc.
Sense is a pretty user interface, but even phones without it can be customized to our heart's content.

Qualcomm's Soc is A8 modified. It's mostly modified to excel at floating point calculations. Problem is, Floating point isn't used much on Andorid apps, but if it were, it would crush the chipsets currently running standard A9.

I don't really see how the UI is ugly. I'm using InsertCoin ICS and it seems the same except for the bottom dock in the home screen. Still has sense 3.5 but adds the features of ICS.

funny
I honestly think that all these sense roms look horrible in comparison. i think any rom I have used looks worse i am in love with the ui.
Stock ICS does look better than the one that currently leaked out!
Also..what is S3 SOC async? can you guys explain that one?
Why would you say the appearance of ICS is ugly if you're judging it based off of ROMs that have Sense? What you really mean is that you don't like the appearance of Sense, not ICS.
All the hype behind ICS is that it will hopefully allow the Sensation to make proper use of the processor for the first time. Not a single ROM, dual-core forced or with any other sort of weird bandage fix, makes PROPER use of the Sensation's dual-core. The hope is that ICS has better multi-core support than GB does and that therefore the Sensation will run better and more properly on ICS.

But will it REALLY release the power of our Snapdragon cores? I really hope it does but I worry that Googley Bear chose OMAP for the Nexus for a reason. Will there really be the necessary code in place to support all the current multi-core SoCs, or will it be added as needed for new chips going forward? Hope I'm wrong : ) It seemed to me at the press release for ICS that Google spent more time talking about the font than multi-core support.....

Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas and happy new year in advance to all. Be positive and hope for the best things to come in future. Enjoy vacations for now.
So I saw recently that the CyanogenMod team was having issues with ICS and their features and because of it older phones such as the Nexus one may not even get CM9, so do you think we'll get it at all then? The Inspire is a rebranded DHD, which is the brother to Nexus One. I searched the CM thread but couldn't find anything on this subject, I was thinking about buying a Galaxy Note (even though I'm not one for Samsung phones) if the Inspire will never get a proper version of ICS (no offense to all the AOSP builders out there).

Don't rush, the Nexus One and the DHD/Inspire 4G are very different in terms of hardware, the Nexus has an older GPU, CPU hence the RAM management and instruction set are very different, even though they are clocked at the same speed (1ghz) For instance compare the Sensation against SGS2 or even the RAZR the difference in performance regardless the clock speed is way different.
Most likely the DHD/INSPIRE will get CM9 due to its superior HW.

I agree completely. There is no reason that we shouldn't see a cm7 for the inspire.

Its all about the drivers for the hardware and weather the hardware can run ICS. HTC has said the DHD will get ICS later this year. But I saw nothing about the Nexus One. Check on the HTC website. Once HTC releases the drivers then CM team can go to work.
Yes, it will get it. But Cyanogen is working on exynos powered phones right now

Considering there's already an ICS Beta build out there (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450962) with as good as everything working except HD video hardware acceleration and minor bugs, I'm pretty sure we'll get CM9. Maybe the CyanogenMod team will update the newer dual-core phones first, but I think we'll have support soon
They will get around to it. Until then, I have been using the IceColdSandwitch rom 1.5 test 5 as a daily driver. HD Video (Netflix) and the Camcorder functions do not work. Also, the camera (at higher resolutions) has a glitch but overall a great rom. Very fast!
Im also on IceColdSandwich, great for now. I will be switching to cm9 when it comes out though.
Guys WE all know the Rules with CM roms. Dont ask for an ETA. I am sure we will see it once the source for the DHD ICS is released.

I still think it'll come. HTC said the same thing about Sense 3.0 last year. Besides, the One V can run Sense 4...so can the Sensation.

its all for marketing purposes so you can buy the new phones
I remember them saying that Sense 3.5 would only be usable on dual core phones which was not true at all Had a Mytouch 4g running a Sense 3.5 rom with no bugs and great speed
plus its time consuming for them to update "old phones"
Plus, remember that the new camera features are a big part of Sense 4, which probably requires hardware that only the One series has (what they refer to as the "latest hardware innovations"). They would have to take that out before giving Sense 4 to our phones, which would take time away from the more important task of getting the One series ready for sale.
HTC never said themselves that the Sensation can't run it smoothly, that was just the website's assumption. It doesn't necessarily rule out us getting Sense 4 eventually, but I would not expect it to come anywhere near, and certainly not before, the release of the One series.

Yeah I remember that part, HTC said something about special imaging chip that allows to capture images during videos. I think that requires specific hardware.
Still they can upgrade software part of other things that dont depend on hardware, like new Sense launcher , themes etc.
Other option is that HTC probably knows that devs gonna port it anyways so they might as well let community to tinker with it
i don't htink so...it will come this summer or later but it will....

Hi everyone,
Today I was just reading about Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, and I couldn't help but wonder if it will be ported to Sensation XE.
An upgrade from Gingerbread (2.3.4) to Ice Cream Sandwich/Jelly Bean required a corresponding firmware upgrade, which was "conveniently" released by HTC. As far as I know, nobody is invloved in firmware development for Sensation XE (for obvious reasons, I suppose), and the next K release on Android will most likely require new firmware which, let's be honest, HTC is quite unlikely to release.
So, what are your thoughts on Key Lime Pie being ported to Sensation XE?
More reading!

Well, JB could run on the same firmware as ICS. I'm guessing it was because it was in some ways similar to ics (ics (4.0) to(4.1/2/3)).
However ics cannot run on gingerbread firmware. Isn't it likely that Key Lime Pie will need need a new firmware too. I mean it's supposed to be a major upgrade.
Yeah I guess I see what u mean. But I still don't think ICS and jb are similar enough to justify the use of the same firmware. Then again I don't know that much detail about the developmental level so u could very much be right.
All we can do is wait and see I guess. Hopefully there is no extra firmware needed though.
Honeycomb and ICS look similar and are 3.0 and 4.0
Froyo and GB look similar as well and are 2.2 and 2.3
So hard to say really

As far as I know, it's possible, as devices which did not get official ICS upgrades were upgraded and are working well (for example, the i9000 Galaxy S, and many even older devices (My sister's old Optimus One runs JB, albeit it has it's own bugs)). The fact HTC released a new firmware for ICS certainly helped, but it was not necessary, because when you port a ROM to your device, you build it to run on a certain firmware. If we wouldn't have a new firmware, devs would probably port it to the older firmware version.
What's happening with JB and SebastianFM's kernel is that since ICS, Google began transition to ION memory management and drivers, instead of PMEM (which was used on Qualcomm devices, and each chip manufacturer had it's own tech). Since JB, ION became the preffered solution, and that's why AOSP based roms such as cyanogenmod and AOKP could run, but Sense 4+ (android 4.1) couldn't, as it requires ION drivers on the Kernel level.
So what I believe, it will be possible. newer firmware isn't necessary, as when a ROM is ported, it's made to work with the existing firmware. And for the kernel related, I wan't to believe that once we have full ION drivers, problems will be easier to solve, but that is for the future.
I'm not a dev, that's just my understanding of things.

Yes, if the sensation does indeed get android 5.0 key like pie, then it is pretty much going to be AOSP first, no sense version. Also, I don't know anything about key lime pie, but we probably need that 3.4 kernel with ION to work on AOSP based ROMs first.
Not to be skeptical, but I think there's not really a chance that key lime pie could run on a pmem kernel. Plus, the Sensation's ram is only 768 megabytes, so some type of more advanced memory allocator is probably required.

As things are going now, the chances of having a Sense KLP ROM on our Sensation are low, as the One S currently won't get any more updates, and ROMs are ported from a version of it (ville c2).
And for the low RAM, I don't think it's a problem yet, as devices with 512MB run JB quite well. but a better memory management is always good.

I don't think that RAM requirements are going to be a problem at all.
Google has already said that it wants android to run equally well on smartphones tablets as well as low end phones, and though Sensation XE may not be high end, it sure as hell isn't low end. So hardware wise, KLP shouldn't have any issued on Sensation.
For example read http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/486414/20130704/android-5-0-key-lime-pie-k.htm
Andoir KLP for a wider set of devices

More reading!

a while ago i was researching about Android KLP..it just came out of my mind..and i have read that this version will support a wider range of devices, including even low-end smartphones and those with 512MB of RAM. So it's most likely our Senny can cope up to it, as it is said that Android 5 will be optimized to be lighter and built for performance and battery efficiency. it is rumored that this version will make the device smoother, and consume less RAM to make it more quick in performance. i dunno how google will do it but i hopethat said features will materialize and our Senny can taste the new android..it will be a huge leap from 4.0.3 to 5.0. so flashaholics like me, keep a backup of your stock roms! let's just hope HTC won't deny us old phone users this major update.

HTC isn't going to update the Sensation XE. Hell, they only agreed to update the One S after so much protest.
But it would be nice if KLP comes to Sensation XE.
Happy to help.

HTC already did deny us, after stopping updates, they won't update a 2-year old device. I didn't find any official confirmation for the One S Sense 5 update, but from what I found, it was explained that only the S4 powered One S will be updated, due to lack of software support from Qualcomm to the S3 platform. It's quite hard to believe HTC would make that effort of updating such old device. After all, their interest is to sell new phones, and 2 years are about the average time for an upgrade (personally I'm probably keeping my device for at least the next year before even considering an upgrade).
Maybe as an AOSP port or CM, but I don't think we will get Sensed KLP, and I don't think we'll even get it ported.

Too bad that even the One S HTC release wouldn't do us any good. But I really hope that at least KLP AOSP roms can run on current firmware.
Happy to help.
My previous device (HTC WILDFIRE) last official relase was Froyo but it runned gb ics and jb (very slow because lack of gpu and very very bad processor) but i hope we can enjoy KLP on our sensation

KLP Will be able to run good on devices with 512mb ram
"Officials Said, to run Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie your device must have minimum 512MB ram and 1GB for smooth running. "

Buddy, you needn't say that. (Everybody's ) Sensation XE might be old, but that doesn't mean it's useless.
If you have any doubts see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391968.
Besides KLP requirements have been confirmed. Sensation can definately run KLP. I just have concerns if the current ics/jb firmware can support it, because firmware updates come from htc only.

agree :good:
Check out the specs for an upcoming phone, the htc Zara. Lots of similar specs to the sensation. It comes with jelly bean but since htc usually gives at least one os update, it's not hard to imagine that phone with key lime pie some day.
