Good news: ICS drivers - myTouch 4G General

As some of you may have seen on the portal, Qualcomm is releasing drivers for the Adreno 2xx series of GPUs for ICS. The article mostly talks about S1 devices, but does mention that S2 devices such as the MT4G stand to benefit as well. At this point, I think we'll all take any good news regarding ICS that we can get our hands on!
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/qualcomm-releases-adreno-2xx-gpu-binaries-for-ics

Ummm?
HOORAY!

Yeahh baby!!

That's real good news

This is incredible news!

Looks like someone beat me to posting this. lol but yeah this should definitely help out with ICS development on this device.

These are generic Adreno 200 drivers, and not updated Adreno 205 drivers.
While useful for old devices like N1 and Desire, I'd think they're of little to no use for MT4G, which will have the same drivers as both Desire HD and Desire S, both getting official ICS.

MWC is here. Anyone keeping up with the new announcements?
The new Galaxy S phone looks amazing.
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
The SGS II looks and sounds amazing. Hopefully Samsung will be better with updates this time around and work with the community a bit.
Yea,i read a few things that stated it was only coming to ATT and T mobile here in the states so I'm hoping at least some of that it's true, and soon too.

I'll be at MWC from tuesday to thursday, anyone here going there too?

Most of the phones are pretty cool. However, I'm most interested in the development pace of the processors within the next year. Seeing quad-core in a phone (for who knows why) is intriguing, yet makes me cry inside if I think about the impact it will have on battery consumption.
Qualcomm has announced a quadcore 2.5ghz CPU! Which uses 65% less power than the current ARM-based CPU cores!

Will the Nexus S 4G Be Too Little, Too Late?

I'm a Sprint customer up for an upgrade soon. I definitely want to switch out this pitiful Palm Pixi for an Android device. The developer community for Android is just so much more motivated and exciting than the webOS community.
As everyone knows, there are two awesome Android devices coming to Sprint in the next few months. The Nexus S 4G and the HTC EVO 3D. I originally had my heart set on the Nexus S, but then I fell in love with the awesome specs of the EVO 3D.
My main question is, I know that there will still be developers working on the Nexus S in a year, but will I regret getting it over the EVO 3D, being that it has lower specs? Do you think the Nexus S is a better choice?

Hardware wise the Evo 3d is definitely better. I don't think the NS 4g is too late and my reason behind that is because if Google continues rolling out major updates for the NS long before other devices get them then the NS will still remain current regardless of lack of dual core. Software can definitely make an old device feel new.

As for the hardware, look at the Atrix...rubbish. EVO 3D should be a hell of a lot better than that though. I've been wanting to pull the trigger on a G2x but I keep holding off because I have a feeling there are going to be some killer uses of the NFC technology built into the Nexus S. If I'm wrong, I've still "stuck" myself with a truly fantastic device. As for getting updates early, it's not all it's chalked up to be so far with the NS. The one I have was stuck on 2.3.1 and I had to manually upgrade. As far as CM7 goes, the version built for the NS pales in comparison to the version I was running on my G2. Too many bugs and usability problems even with the "stable" release.

So do you think the EVO 3D would be better, based on the next-gen hardware?
Oh it will clearly have better hardware. But for what? There is nothing out there that taxes the Nexus S at this point. It is fast enough.
If you want the 3d or the bigger screen, wait. But don't wait for better performance, there is no point unless you just like running benchmarks all day.

Who knows, the Evo 3d might be the better phone. It all depends on what your looking for. What exactly do you want in a phone? Most likely the Evo 3d will have more developers than the NS, but the NS software will always be officially up to date and run more smoothly since the software was built specifically for this device. I think since more dual core, etc phones are coming out GOOGLE will continue to roll out major updates for the NS to prove that software plays a major part in smartphones. I personally don't see why we need a dual core phone if our phone is already fast, but that's just me.

way to troll t-mobile boy! thanks for playing!
I hate 3d and HTC, it is all BS just get a Nexus S, the whole idea that the Qualcom dual core is faster than Tegra 2 is false as well. They boasted that their 1.5ghz dual core processor can run circles around a Tegra 2 clocked at 1ghz. Well... OBVIOUSLY. Plus this is the same Evo just with 3d and a slightly faster processor, HTC is bringing fragmentation to a new level, they have software fragmentation within software fragmentation. A great majority of all of HTC's devices will not receive Sense 3.0. Nexus S wins by the software route, and maybe even the hardware one too, HTC cameras never perform as advertised and their screens are crap a lot of the time. Nexus S 4G may be late, but not too late. I would say it's late when you see a Tegra 2 device on Sprint like the Galaxy S2, it runs circles around the Evo 3D for sure, just Google some benchmarks.

It's my view on the technology this phone will use. I don't see what T-Mobile has to do with it and I'm a man.
This phone will use WiMax, if you're in an area that has it, maybe it will make you happy. My experiences with the Evo and WiMax in NY were negative.
Other than that it's a Nexus S on a CDMA network that will let Sprint customers enjoy the pure Google Android experience without switching carriers. That's great. Choice is great.
I personally wouldn't let WiMax factor into my decision if I was on another carrier looking at sprint.

the evo3d isnt a big enough advancement for me to ditch my evo for it. if i cant get my hw003 replaced with a 004, ill be buying the nexus s, at retail. no contracts for this guy...or maybe ill get it on a contract...
if the nexus comes SOON, ill jump on it, mostly for the dev aspect and the gpu. if its not coming until first or second week in may, ill wait to handle an evo3d. the evo 3d is physically ugly though, imo and form factor means a lot to me.
i prefer htc to samsung but i may be playing with a ns4g very soon. Now if only I knew WHEN it was coming...cause no public release dates is straight up oscar mayer
For me, the 'getting updates first' perk of the Nexus S is more important than dual-core or 3d. Plus, I'm just sick of the Hero and want a new phone ASAP.

To the OP, don't listen to this guy, he seriously is not a good source and just wants to troll. That said these phones aren't even out yet so how can such strong opinions (ok mainly thee evo 3d) be postulated?
I'M IN SPAAAACCCEEEE! I'M IN SPACE! I'M IN SPACE!
Nexus-S is a bad ass device, who cares about dual core right now, I would wait until "Ice cream" update is out, for true dual core support, and then get the newest Android phone out at that time, which will probably be a dual core Nexus-3.0 that will be first phone with "Ice Cream" 3.1.
So get the Nexus-S now and have fun. And upgrade to the true dual core phone Nexus-3.0, when it comes out if you want.
Dual.core sounds tempting but im not a game player on my.phone. So for some the nexus s looks to be a great upgrade.

Probably the Nexus devices (One, S, Galaxy), Samsung GSII (because it sold so many units), and the more powerful/best selling HTC devices (Evo 4G, G2/DZ, etc.).
Just browse the forums you'll quickly see which phones have a vibrant dev community.

Exactly. There is more talk and excitement over the Tegra 3 than over the MUCH faster Snapdragon S4. The only reason the Tegra 3 gets more attention is because idiots believe that Android is actually capable of using the other two cores. Breaking News: It can't. ICS improved support for dual cores. It still doesn't fully utilize dual cores at the moment. All it can do currently with quad core devices is recognize the other two cores. It cannot actually use them for anything. Ignorance breeds stupidity when untreated.

Single core processor, well, is not future proof according to me... But if u want the HTC experience and prefer looks over specs, then it is for you at that price range...

Watch out the size of the mobile. It is just 2/3rd size of galaxy r. You need the bigger display to enjoy ics, surf, games etc. My friend recently bought in poorvika Chennai. They did not have the dummy piece and asked him to pay before they open the box and show the piece. I don't like the physical buttons and design. Those spaces could have been used for display.

It depends on expectations, it's clearly a successor of HTC legend, and it has its advantages and disadvantages. User interface is pretty nice, u cannot even compare ****ty tw style. HTC tries at least make some modification in their ui, not like sammy. I can bet that camera is not worse than ours. Unibody feels more sturdy and solid. And think that not everyone is an android freak that likes huge and fast devices. But even here devs interest will be most possibly much bigger than in case of sgr. If the price is good I think it's worth to consider.

Well, it is obviously not as good as the R going by specs. But mostly everybody has had some issue or the other with the R. HTC devices are the most reliable in my experience.

Wow...that's really hard to believe, but if it's true then I'm really impressed.
Well, I have never used any of the flagship devices by samsung for any extended periods of time.
But my experience with Galaxy R and Galaxy SL have NOT been amazing.
Reflashing firmwares. Wiping cache. Spending hours on google researching the problem you are having.
Never a samsung again for me.
My next device would be either a HTC or a Sony.
Mine experience is far away from being amazing but it's ok, everything has worked as it should. The only thing that bothers me is lack of both samsung's and devs' support for SGR.
I would never buy a "poorer brother" of a flagship model ever again. IT turned out to be an unwanted child. Next one will be a flagship - due to best support from each side, even the older one like SGS2....but most probably will be a Nexus.
