I thought I'd try. On 3.24 base (HB 1.27.1100) and I flashed 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 via the PG58IMG.zip as I couldn't be arsed to get a cable and fire up adb...
I managed to call myself and got my voicemail ;-)) So it looks like the answer is yes.
WIFI seems to work.
Mobile Data worked, only got EDGE but that might just be where I am.
I'll leave it on this version and see how the battery works out. Then probably swap back to the 3.24 base radio tomorrow.
NOTE: I didn't bother changing RIL and it worked straight off. Hmm wonder if that's related to the EDGE connection.
EDIT1: Applied the 10.58 RIL and nada, then noticed a post about some files that get flashed that might cause an issue. So I applied the 11.69 RIL and it was on H then dropped to E, switched mobile off and on and nada. Hmm rebooted and it locked in to H. I think it's my current location that's the issue with Mobile Data. Just tried Speed Test on WIFI it reported 12.5 Mbps download.
So in Summary it seems to work but can't confirm definitively.

Strange, I have the XXKB3, but with GRI40...
I installed this nandroid backup provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884093
The Nexus S is now stock and unrooted. But my baseband version is still: I9020XXKB3
What is the original baseband version for android version 2.3.1, build number GRH78 and how can I go back to it?
not sure why you want XXJK8.. XXKB3 has the best performance for most people but whatever here it is.

Thanks
It is just that I wanted the nexus S to be completely stock. I dont know if I would receive OTA updates from google if I had baseband XXKB3? And I think the baseband XXKB3 is for the european version of Nexus S?

GRI54 is European. CM7 follows American.
So pretty much KB3 is a European radio, but they both work the same. Whatever is the best for you, use it. It's not a big deal.
This radio thing is getting confusing. I am in Asia which I think follows Europe more closely compared to US. But my Nexus is from bestbuy. I should be using the europe radio then?

I really don't think there's a difference between Europeans and Americans radio. The Nexus S works in predetermined frequencies for GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and HSPA (900/1700/2100) and that's it. So no matter where are you if your carrier support those frequencies the phone is gonna work. If it don't than you gonna have problems, probably you won't be able to use 3g per example.
Besides all this stuff is regulated and follows same patterns to ensure compatibility betweens networks so the same phone can work in several caries. That's the whole point about most phone are quad-band for GSM (more frequencies so it's more likely it will make calls) and tri-band for HSPA.

[Radio]Skyrocket Radio Thread

Here are cwm zips for the radios we have available at this time(that work). These will work for both the AT&T Skyrocket and the Rogers Skyrocket, take your pick I will be updating this thread as new radios become available. Please do not ask for the Japanese SC03DDCMKK3 radio, it does not work properly with our device.
Included in these zips:
mdm.bin
amss.bin
RIL
How To Flash:
Install with clockworkmod like you would any other zip.
I have tested these myself, as well as others on IRC and they have worked fine. I am not responsible if something goes wrong for you.

After much testing, the current selection of radios seem to offer no difference in performance, the major difference is that the Rogers radio is RAT unrestricted vs. RAT restricted AT&T radio, which allows you to type "*#2263#" in the dialer and set the phone to 2g only, 3g only, 4g only, etc.

FIXED IT! Apparently taking out my SIM card and putting it back in fixed it.
I'm running KK1 and can dd a partition if that's what you need. PM me or message me on irondust(lart).
Hey, noob question but whats the point of flashing this radio lol? Does this actually allow you to use the radio that the skyrocket was supposed to come with but doesnt have an app for?
These are the firmware that control the Cellular Radio, DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and various bootloaders, not the FM radio that may or may not be part of our bluetooth chipset
BTW, AT&T 2.3.6 KK1 radio coming up shortly courtesy of lart, I'm just packaging it up now
Thanks for the fast apply, I appreciate it =) I wish we could get the radio to work on the phone if it really is built in
Did anyone take close up photos of our motherboard yet?
There are various FM radio drivers contained in the kernel, but all of them are disabled @ stock config. No idea if the chip is actually present or not, or if it is, if it's physically wired to the headphone jack (FM radio uses headphone cord as antenna generally speaking)
Close up pics of the motherboard would tell us if it's there or not
I just tried out the rogers radio (I am on ATT) and I was getting extremely low data speeds on EDGE, UMTS, and HSPA+ (10kBps) (tried both phone and PTA apns). Making calls worked fine though.
Flashed the radio and am playing around with the bands using 2263, looks like I can force EDGE by selecting GSM (I assume we should select the 850/1900 for AT&T) and can force hspa by selecting the WCDMA)
How would I force it into 3G only mode, (UMTS?)

T Mobile UK users - delayed texts/missed calls - Which rom/software base?

Howdy all,
Long time lurker, first time poster, unable to post direct to the development forum so I thought I had best start here.
So to cut a long story short, I suffer from delayed texts and missed calls, after no end of problems trying to get T Mobile and HTC to sort it out, I decided to S/off the phone and try some different roms, each one however incurs the same problem.
So I have tried the SAGA roms, Endymion 3.4 rom, Reaper rom, and even the latest pre rooted stock rom 2.10.401.9, all experience the same problems. I have yet to try the original 1.28 original rom, as It would mean having to S/on, but I have read other reports that suggest this too doesn't work.
So come on T-mobile UK users, what rom/software base do you use without delayed texts/missed calls.
Of course I could just set the preferred network mode to GSM only, this solves the problem, but obviously gives a slower network connection.
Any help, thanks ?
T-mobile UK user, don't experience the issues as described by you, did slightly back in the earlier days of the 1.47 base (thankfully that has long gone)
You can see my full details in my signature....I'm guessing that we're using different Radios?! so possibly worth upgrading and testing my version out, if you're on the same then I don't know what to say....
Where abouts in the UK are you? I'm in East/SE England, do you have decent mobile strength where you live? by your GSM comment I suspect that your 3G signal is weak and therefore your often in and out of signal which may be the cause of the issues?
Hi Ben,
Live in Leeds and have no problem with signal strength, have tried the Endymion rom but I was definately suffering fron long text delays.
I am no longer on it and I didn't make a note of the Kernel/Radio, are you using the ones included with the rom or have you changed anything?

The Endymion ROM wouldn't have changed your Radio. Kernel would have Endymion its default on that ROM.
I upgraded to this Radio intentionally, not related to ROMs
So which radio do you have currently installed? Settings->About Phone->Software->Base etc....and note baseband version
Interesting.
Checked and I am on 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03, which the development forum suggests is taken from the 1.47.401.4 RUU, which of course was the main problem.
Could this be what is going wrong??? Does the radio not change with each rom update?
If I want to change radio do I juest follow the guidance at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178001(20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 and will and radio work with any rom, if it does I will definately go back to Endymion.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

when you flash custom ROMs they rarely in fact hardly ever contain Radios although stock ROMs (RUUs) often contain radios.
I believe that the radio version in my signature has a link to the new radio along with valid installation instructions.
I suggest that you change.
But ensure that you check the download before installing as suggested in the instructions with the md5 sum and don't hurry the process.
You can't backup radio version only reapply previous versions.
Nice one.
Radio updated, fingers crossed no more delayed texts.
Thanks again.
must say i've never had this issue, i take it you have signal right? or is it delayed because there is low quality signal? also are you using 3rd party apps for messaging and calls like go dialer etc? i have DS rooted currently on reaper 2.2.2 no problems and best signal quality i've ever had, as the problem persists through rooted or unrooted roms it sounds like a problem with your hardware/set up in other words t-mobile are at fault, i'd unroot and then go talk to them or phone them but we all know how bad they are at answering calls and helping

It is dependant on where you live, which network and which ROM you're on.
But you can see from my signature what I use and I live in the UK on T-mobile and again my Radio is displayed in my signature.
You can only flash Radios if your S-OFF though

The radio governs your Wifi, BT, Mobile Data and Voice Calls
A rule of thumb is to only change you radio if you are experiencing problems? like dropped calls, delayed texts etc as described by the user above.
I've been on this radio for months without issue and would recommend it.
You could always note your current radio version and then switch, you'll find all the radios in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178001 along with instrcutions on how to change version.

The OP of that thread is old school and simply uses adb to copy the radio file from his PC to his devices SD card, you could easily mount the SD card and then copy it using windows file manager.
just ensure that you verify the md5 sum of the radio on your device before you flash it.
which as you say can be done through bootloader (do ensure that settings->power->fastboot is off) and once the radio has been applied you move the file from the root of your sd.
I know someone on T Mobile with the exact problem. She's had it for ages and even after sending it off for "repair" to T Mobile, it came back with the exact same problem. The build number came back exactly the same. The 1.47 version.

[Q] Nexus S weak Wifi and GSM

I recently purchased a Nexus S (M200) and I am experiencing very low Wifi and GSM signals. In fact, it's so low that I can't even make calls from GSM when indoors and need to get outdoor to get fair signals. Similar issue is with Wifi and I have to be within 10 meters to get a stable Wifi connection.
I have tried various roms and kernels but the problem remains. Even went back to stock gingerbread rom and the same problem. Any suggestion to get this fixed? Seems like a hardware issue and my phone is not under warranty!
Help appreciated.
I experienced the same thing on Cyanogen 10.1 nightly but when I was on stock 4.1 it was ok.
Maybe it's your provider which don't have a good network where you are.
I am sorry for my english I hope you will undrstand me.

You should get the most recent baseband (radio) firmware update for your model of Nexus S. If you search the forums, you should be able to find a thread all the basebands linked. Be sure to only install the one for the model you have, because the wrong one will not work.

Ah, yeah, you're right, they do... I didn't think of that. I would try updating to the latest FW (3.33 - as you proposed). That'll update your radio which could effect your call quality/signal strength. There are also several build.prop edits you can try as well. I followed this thread a while back and had good results. Of course, if you're just in an area with awful cell coverage there's not too much you can do about it.... that said, if it were me, I'd update the radio and go from there...
