[Radio]Skyrocket Radio Thread - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Here are cwm zips for the radios we have available at this time(that work). These will work for both the AT&T Skyrocket and the Rogers Skyrocket, take your pick I will be updating this thread as new radios become available. Please do not ask for the Japanese SC03DDCMKK3 radio, it does not work properly with our device.
Included in these zips:
mdm.bin
amss.bin
RIL
How To Flash:
Install with clockworkmod like you would any other zip.
I have tested these myself, as well as others on IRC and they have worked fine. I am not responsible if something goes wrong for you.

So you mean that once we flash to the 2.3.6, we can't just go back to .5?

why would you think i meant that lol...I need someone who has already flashed the 2.3.6 update to extract the radio from their device and send it to me so i can make cwm zips for everyone else to try Using this method to flash radios there is no verification check for upgrade/downgrade, so you can flash them back and forth all you want.

Thanks for doing this!!! I ended up going out after work so didn't get to it like I planned. If you don't mind I'll just link to this thread but you'll probably be stick-ied too. TA.

Your welcome, and if it needs to be stickied say the word...I can do that myself hehe.

I flashed nandroid to 2.3.6 so I have it available if needed.
Edit: Well after further investigation I read that nandroid back-up does not contain radio...so, oops

Thanks. Finally able to update my radio. Much appreciated for the effort.

For AT&T, which radio has the best reception in you're opinion...

After much testing, the current selection of radios seem to offer no difference in performance, the major difference is that the Rogers radio is RAT unrestricted vs. RAT restricted AT&T radio, which allows you to type "*#2263#" in the dialer and set the phone to 2g only, 3g only, 4g only, etc.

FIXED IT! Apparently taking out my SIM card and putting it back in fixed it.

I'm running KK1 and can dd a partition if that's what you need. PM me or message me on irondust(lart).

Hey, noob question but whats the point of flashing this radio lol? Does this actually allow you to use the radio that the skyrocket was supposed to come with but doesnt have an app for?

These are the firmware that control the Cellular Radio, DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and various bootloaders, not the FM radio that may or may not be part of our bluetooth chipset
BTW, AT&T 2.3.6 KK1 radio coming up shortly courtesy of lart, I'm just packaging it up now

Thanks for the fast apply, I appreciate it =) I wish we could get the radio to work on the phone if it really is built in

Did anyone take close up photos of our motherboard yet?
There are various FM radio drivers contained in the kernel, but all of them are disabled @ stock config. No idea if the chip is actually present or not, or if it is, if it's physically wired to the headphone jack (FM radio uses headphone cord as antenna generally speaking)
Close up pics of the motherboard would tell us if it's there or not

I just tried out the rogers radio (I am on ATT) and I was getting extremely low data speeds on EDGE, UMTS, and HSPA+ (10kBps) (tried both phone and PTA apns). Making calls worked fine though.

Flashed the radio and am playing around with the bands using 2263, looks like I can force EDGE by selecting GSM (I assume we should select the 850/1900 for AT&T) and can force hspa by selecting the WCDMA)
How would I force it into 3G only mode, (UMTS?)

I thought I'd try. On 3.24 base (HB 1.27.1100) and I flashed 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 via the PG58IMG.zip as I couldn't be arsed to get a cable and fire up adb...
I managed to call myself and got my voicemail ;-)) So it looks like the answer is yes.
WIFI seems to work.
Mobile Data worked, only got EDGE but that might just be where I am.
I'll leave it on this version and see how the battery works out. Then probably swap back to the 3.24 base radio tomorrow.
NOTE: I didn't bother changing RIL and it worked straight off. Hmm wonder if that's related to the EDGE connection.
EDIT1: Applied the 10.58 RIL and nada, then noticed a post about some files that get flashed that might cause an issue. So I applied the 11.69 RIL and it was on H then dropped to E, switched mobile off and on and nada. Hmm rebooted and it locked in to H. I think it's my current location that's the issue with Mobile Data. Just tried Speed Test on WIFI it reported 12.5 Mbps download.
So in Summary it seems to work but can't confirm definitively.

T Mobile UK users - delayed texts/missed calls - Which rom/software base?

Howdy all,
Long time lurker, first time poster, unable to post direct to the development forum so I thought I had best start here.
So to cut a long story short, I suffer from delayed texts and missed calls, after no end of problems trying to get T Mobile and HTC to sort it out, I decided to S/off the phone and try some different roms, each one however incurs the same problem.
So I have tried the SAGA roms, Endymion 3.4 rom, Reaper rom, and even the latest pre rooted stock rom 2.10.401.9, all experience the same problems. I have yet to try the original 1.28 original rom, as It would mean having to S/on, but I have read other reports that suggest this too doesn't work.
So come on T-mobile UK users, what rom/software base do you use without delayed texts/missed calls.
Of course I could just set the preferred network mode to GSM only, this solves the problem, but obviously gives a slower network connection.
Any help, thanks ?
T-mobile UK user, don't experience the issues as described by you, did slightly back in the earlier days of the 1.47 base (thankfully that has long gone)
You can see my full details in my signature....I'm guessing that we're using different Radios?! so possibly worth upgrading and testing my version out, if you're on the same then I don't know what to say....
Where abouts in the UK are you? I'm in East/SE England, do you have decent mobile strength where you live? by your GSM comment I suspect that your 3G signal is weak and therefore your often in and out of signal which may be the cause of the issues?
Hi Ben,
Live in Leeds and have no problem with signal strength, have tried the Endymion rom but I was definately suffering fron long text delays.
I am no longer on it and I didn't make a note of the Kernel/Radio, are you using the ones included with the rom or have you changed anything?

The Endymion ROM wouldn't have changed your Radio. Kernel would have Endymion its default on that ROM.
I upgraded to this Radio intentionally, not related to ROMs
So which radio do you have currently installed? Settings->About Phone->Software->Base etc....and note baseband version
Interesting.
Checked and I am on 20.28I.30.085AU_3805.06.02.03, which the development forum suggests is taken from the 1.47.401.4 RUU, which of course was the main problem.
Could this be what is going wrong??? Does the radio not change with each rom update?
If I want to change radio do I juest follow the guidance at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178001(20.4801.30.0822U_3822.10.08.04 and will and radio work with any rom, if it does I will definately go back to Endymion.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

when you flash custom ROMs they rarely in fact hardly ever contain Radios although stock ROMs (RUUs) often contain radios.
I believe that the radio version in my signature has a link to the new radio along with valid installation instructions.
I suggest that you change.
But ensure that you check the download before installing as suggested in the instructions with the md5 sum and don't hurry the process.
You can't backup radio version only reapply previous versions.
Nice one.
Radio updated, fingers crossed no more delayed texts.
Thanks again.
must say i've never had this issue, i take it you have signal right? or is it delayed because there is low quality signal? also are you using 3rd party apps for messaging and calls like go dialer etc? i have DS rooted currently on reaper 2.2.2 no problems and best signal quality i've ever had, as the problem persists through rooted or unrooted roms it sounds like a problem with your hardware/set up in other words t-mobile are at fault, i'd unroot and then go talk to them or phone them but we all know how bad they are at answering calls and helping

It is dependant on where you live, which network and which ROM you're on.
But you can see from my signature what I use and I live in the UK on T-mobile and again my Radio is displayed in my signature.
You can only flash Radios if your S-OFF though

The radio governs your Wifi, BT, Mobile Data and Voice Calls
A rule of thumb is to only change you radio if you are experiencing problems? like dropped calls, delayed texts etc as described by the user above.
I've been on this radio for months without issue and would recommend it.
You could always note your current radio version and then switch, you'll find all the radios in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178001 along with instrcutions on how to change version.

The OP of that thread is old school and simply uses adb to copy the radio file from his PC to his devices SD card, you could easily mount the SD card and then copy it using windows file manager.
just ensure that you verify the md5 sum of the radio on your device before you flash it.
which as you say can be done through bootloader (do ensure that settings->power->fastboot is off) and once the radio has been applied you move the file from the root of your sd.
I know someone on T Mobile with the exact problem. She's had it for ages and even after sending it off for "repair" to T Mobile, it came back with the exact same problem. The build number came back exactly the same. The 1.47 version.

Installing CM9 on skyrocket will allow to choose 2G/3G network?

I have brought an unlocked version skyrocket from at&t. Since I stay in India, we don't have a 4G and it's shame to say not even full 3G coverage here as of yet.
My question is when I move into 3G coverage area I see 4G instead of 3G and I feel battery drains quite fast during data usage under 3G (or 4G for phone). So I heard in Roger version of skyrocket and some custom roms allow switching off 4G completely ( 4G/LTE/HSPA+). So does cyanogenmod 9 allow such feature to disable 4G connectivity which is not there on at&t rom? Anybody who has already flashed CM9 on at&t skyrocket can reply so I can root this device and go for CM9 or other stable that allows such feature.
Thanks.

Where in India..? How did u manage to get carrier signals... I struggled a lot to get the signals, I had to flash stock ics uclf6.. may b d radio in it was the thing did it...
Into the topic,.. yes u can switch 2g/3g... you don't need to root ur phone... u can flash a recovèry using Odin.. then flash the custom rom... u get root if the rom is pre rooted... if not u can flash su... I'm using sky ics now but I'm unable to switch network mode.. people say it might b radio prob..
Pls post back if u succeed with cm9..
Thank u..

Yes, CM9 allows it. I'm on TeamChopsticks' CM9 and the option to switch is available in the Wireless and Networks setting.
However, do understand that you need a RAT unlocked radio. That's actually what allows you to switch to 2G on the skyrocket -- having a RAT unlocked radio. You can find a list of radios in this thread.
Hi!
That's what I was about to say: if I understood correctly what I read, having a ROM that allows you to choose between network modes (LTE/HSPA/GSM) is not sufficient. Your radio should also be unlocked -- like Rogers' radio. Changing the settings in your ROM when you use a locked radio -- like AT&T's radio -- would have no effect.
I've tried using this feature in CM9 and it doesn't seem to work. It was noted on their list of problems but I don't know if it was ever resolved. I have an unlocked RAT and I still can't get it to work right. Somewhat annoying because during the day I'd like to have it to save battery, but basically I gave up on trying to get it to work.

Sorry that doesn't seem to work. That may only work in Touchwiz based OSes, but in CM9 it's not doing anything.
Reported this belongs in q&a or the developers thread itself not in the general section.

odin to rogers stock flash rogers stock ics modem first. Then root and install cm9.

[Q] JB Radios t-mobile / rogers

Good day people
Im a newb when it comes to radios...
i have rooted / unlocked and installed the cyanogen superlite JB Rom
which i love
Now i'm in canada and traveling to the states in about 2 weeks and i have a prepaid sim cad but its not activated
i have traveled to the states before and used the t-mobile pay by the day plan but could never get any better than 2g connectivity because i have the stock rogers radio...
after doing some reading i have learned that i need to flash another radio... i have flashed different roms etc so i know i can do it...
but im unsure of a few things.
is there a radio that is universal? which will give me 4g / lte on rogers and t-mobile so i dont have to flash when i get off the plane?
if not what are some radios that will work with JB and give me 4G connectivity with T-mobile?
also what radio would i want to revert back to stock rogers / att radio?
i know everyone one says try different ones but im in a different country so i would like to have everything ready to go as soon as i land...
Thanks
Rom...
I am not sure about that specific Rom, but I know with the Official Team Chopsticks version - they list UVLE1 as the radio.
I know that some Roms have modified radios/kernels so check with the Rom Dev for which one he recommends as he knows what he has baked into the rom...
If you are really scared about it, download several and have them handy on your SD card and when you get here you can simple try several and see if one yields better connection speeds for you.
As far as reverting for ATT/Rogers I believe UCLI3 is the latest but might not be the best for your area... UCLF6 was our previous radio and I get good results with both..
Just make sure you make a GOOD nandroid backup and try them all....
Good luck!
tmo uses a different frequency than rogers/att, so the tmo compatible radio has to be flashed, to my knowledge noone modified a rogers/att radio to work with tmo's 3g 4g, im not sure they have lte, theres a few threads on which tmo radio works well with the skyrocket, and remember to add the tmo's apn. need ics radios to work with jb roms. read the links below

I am also in Canada, have had great luck using the T-Mobile card, but unfortunately not with getting my speed up. I did try downloading several different radios and flashing them while in the US.
Unfortunately it went from 2g data to no data or reception whatsoever. So I restored to my nandroid backup and continued on with 2g.
Just wondered though, did you say ics radios are compatible with jellybean? I've been wanting to make the jump to jellybean on Rogers, but wasn't sure if I'd lose my Lte speeds. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Flashing modems/basebands on G920F/i?

Is it possible yet to flash different modems/basebands? I am using a G920I on AT&T and would like to flash the AT&T modem.
Same question here. I have a G920F and want to flash a modem. I have the AOD9 modem.bin and I assume I just flash it with ODIN with CP but I don't really want to go ahead and do it without knowing that I'm doing it right.

Thanks I just flashed the aod3. Anybody know if we can flash T-Mobile or AT&T modems on the international S6, or would that result in brick?

I flashed aod3 on my g920i. It seems better than aod1. Aod1 would have me dropping down to hspa in places where I have never ever lost LTE before. I'm on AT&T. Would love to be able to flash AT&T or T-Mobile modem, assuming those are optimized for the U.S.

Funny cause I went to At&t and Verizon to check signal and there's are perfect.... I live in Alaska and most our towers are shared with At&t so the 920I should work on their network... But I can't recommend being the first to flash an att baseband on our phones.... Let me know if you end up trying it out... I was hoping my phone was just bad bit I've exchange 2 times already same **** reception
So you did notice a little better reception with the newer modem huh? The only thing I can think of is my S5 had LTE Cat 4 and this phone has LTE Cat 6 don't really know if that makes a difference... Probably not...
I attempted to flash ATT modem on 925F and it failed.
But not sure if I attempted it correctly. I flashed modem.bin instead of modem.tar.md5.
If somebody can get me the latest ATT modem in a format that is for sure flashable via Odin I'll try it.
Where did you get the modem? I'd like to see the g920a modem
Sent from my SM-G920I
I extracted it from the latest factory ATT firmware. The thread is stickied in General
I was able to flash the modem and BL files from "Latest Bootloader & Modem packages" thread on my 920F, but unable to use the AT&T versions. I'm also trying to see if I can get a signal reception improvement on my LTE AT&T SIM.
Any word on if there is any modems for sprint g920p? I've looked and looked and I can't find help anywhere...also, how do I go about finding the modem.bin? Worse comes to worse ill have to try an make one.. -.-

How did Odin report the reason of failure?
Have you tried other versions (not 920f)? If we can get back by flashing the original modem, I think it's worth trying. I know that 920F/T/I have the same baseband chip made by samsung.
I have a Sprint galaxy s6 edge unlocked and i use it for T-mobile. my LTE signal is so low at times. I was wondering if i could flash a T-mobile baseband and BL and just use tmobile roms?
Is there an update to this? Looking to flash AT&T modem on G920F. I have poor reception.
