My brothers Xoom which is the original and new out of the box every time he restarts it prompts him to do the setup wizard, anyone know why?
It seems like it doesnt save his settings regardless of having the settings all correct. Im not a xoom man as have the notion ink, vega and ipad so if anyone does know please let me know what we can try.
Its 32gb and not rooted and brand new out of the box.
Thanks!
Maybe the best, since it's brand-new and not modded (it IS not modded, right?) is to bring it to Motorola for repair? Or use the warranty to replace it? Cause there may be a solution for it now, but who knows if it will cause any more problems in the future?
EDIT: Just noticed I answered everything with a question. I mean: with a question?
Yes its not modded in anyway as I think he got it about 6 months ago and has never really used it. It has honeycomb as sold and even requests an update but even that after downloading and rebooting does nothing as it goes into the setup wizard again and then requests you to download the update again which seems to suggest its not doing anything. The unit is 32 gb internal and shows approx 29 gb still available. If it was mine I would be mods it was mine I would of nodded that ages ago but very strange it keeps doing this.
Just want to know if anyone has experienced this with a xoom
at all?
Just do a master reset and wipe the Xoom.

Yeah I did a factory data reset and its doing exactly the same. Every time you reboot after installing apps or the update its asking to apply it kicks into the setup wizard. Baffled now! !!
Yesterday, I upgraded htc sensation to ice cream sandwich. After upgrading, wifi worked for few seconds and after that it stopped working. It's showing disconnected and not scanning the Wifi Routers around. Secondly, after every restart, it's shows that android is upgrading and optimizing the applications.
I have HTC_Asia_WWE HTC_044 Sensation. Any of you guys faced this issue? have you managed to resolve this?
For WIFI you can use this application , i used it and it's working fine with me now

also i have the same problem when restarting the device, and i have a problem with cell broadcast every time i disable it , after restart it's enabled again

I have exactly the same symptom on my Sensation XE - like you Asian sourced, but operating in Qatar. Like you - I know I could root, but would prefer to keep my phone unrooted and stock for the time being.
Reading about the Wifi fix at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21406675 it could be that HTC have screwed up the Wifi settings where it reads the country code is Qatar. Be curious to see if this is a common problem for all Qatari HTC ICS upgraders. The other common problem with ICS and WiFi seems to be the WPA_supplicant.conf file getting corrupted.
Question - if you rip your SIM out, can you see any WiFi SSIDs, and connect to any? This should show if you've got a problem a or problem b - as the WiFi country code is set by the SIM card. have you logged a problem with HTC? The more problems logged might be evidence they have a bug, rather then just telling you to do a factory reset or reboot your router.....
I have an HTC__038 (SuperCID'd) which I bought in the Philippines. I'm on Qatar for holiday. I'm running Virtuous Inquisition 4.0.1.
It's not the router's fault guys and factory resetting it would be just bringing the pain of reconfiguring other devices in your network. My nieces have phones running Android 2.3 devices and they can connect to the Wifi properly. WiFix didn't work for me either.
The thing was, that 5sec that the phone was able to see the SSID, I was able to configure it with WPA2 and managed to have it saved but after that no SSID's were recognized by the phone. So having no Wifi, I just left the phone alone to empty battery since I was just staying home.
After charging fully and doing a cold boot, the phone could connect to the home wifi with no troubles. I rebooted and emptied/cold boot again just to make sure and it connects without a hitch now.
I don't exactly know how this is a solution but you guys could try it and test your mileage on it.
ON SOMETHING UNRELATED: All I'm getting around Doha is HSDPA. Have you guys managed to get HSPA or HSPA+?

I've ripped my SIM out and tried it without the SIM, without success.
I'll point to my previous post that the wifi fix applictaion implies that some system security settigns for WiFi are based upon the country of the SIM card.
If everyone in Qatar (where HTC have no official presence) has this issue, I suspect the issue above. I strongly recommend that anyone who has the issue log it via the htc website, and be quite specific about the scenario, country of us and source of the phone. Enough users reporting the same issue will set alarm bells ringing and maybe get some action.
With regard to the previous post - tired a cold boot with a fully chraged battery and conencting to my home WiFi network without success. No idea if Qtel support HSPA/+. How does one tell?
Got same problem with restarting and optimizing apps, didnt figured out how to get rid of it yet, another thing that bothers me are all of sudden shutdowns, the usual message pops up sayin my batery is low (usualy 15-20%) and then it turns off the phone completely

I too am in Qatar, though I bought my HTC Sensation unbranded in the UK. Just upgraded to ICS and I'm without wifi, why didn't this come up on google BEFORE I installed it?
I've been onto HTC online and they tell me they need me to post the phone back to UK (or SPain/Taiwan if I prefer) and they will fix it, but I will loose SMS and anything else I've not backed up and all my apps will be wiped.
I'm furious!
A quick update. I've just got back home and taken my QTEL sim card out and put a UK Three sim card in and I have full wireless functionality, which is great. However I can't use this to make my calls, but at least it gives a clue that might lead to a simple fix.
Thankfully I didn't do the factory reset as advised by the muppet at HTC.
---------- Post added at 01:12 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:30 AM ----------
I swapped back to Qtel and wifi worked for maybe 10 mins, then stopped again, swapped back to UK Three and wifi worked again.
But this infernal upgrading apps everytime it starts is a PITA too.

Out of curiosity - does WiFi work if you remove the Qtel SIM and reboot?
Have you told HTC the solution/issue? I think as a community we've done pretty much all the debugging we can do - clearly Qtel SIMS are causing some sort of interaction with WiFi (system security settings) as per the WiFi fix apk for rooted phones. Ive also heard people having issues in other smaller countries which do not have an official HTC presence.
For those who still have the issue - I'm going to try to revert back to gingerbread tonight. I'm still very much a noob - I just want a phone to work and don't want to tinker with it - but it would appear that if I download an RUU from filefactory and have the right release for your phone it'll install automagically. If it's the worng release and you haven't rooted your phone, it won't install - no harm done.
After update a ICS my wifi turn on when I press power button all the morning

Yes, I tried no sim card first and it didn't work. Oddly it's not working with the UK sim at the moment, though it was earlier this morning.
I emailed HTC last night so obviously I've not had a reply yet.
I spoke to HTC about reverting back and was told it's not possible.
On the plus side, I've reinstalled the drivers and I can now get online with the phone using the USB cable with internet pass through, but it's not an answer.

On 1 - There does seem to be a lag issue soemtimes on wifi packing it in. On my inital run on ICS I'd used my phone for 5-10 minutes before it lost wifi, then it's been consistently bad.
I got a reply from HTC today, worryingly the ticket is status "pending closed". He asked for baseband and kernel release. Knowing the way an IT developer thinks it's a case of looking at the bug report for 2 seconds and thinking "this guy has rooted his phone and that's caused the issue - let's prove it by getting baseband and kernel release". I reiterated to HTC that by my count there are 5 people from Qatar who've posted on this issue, as well as some other "minor" locations. On the upside - at least the developer/QA team have looked at the bug and asked at least one question. Just need to get someone in the developer/QA team who's heard of the issue multiple times to take notice.
With regard to reverting back - not possible through official channels. But if you find the right RUU you can revert back without being rooted, to an official release. Subject to time tonight - that's my plan. You need to find things like your CID and use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195475 to translate it to the right release. Maybe use CID_getter (via market/play) and make sure you have the right SKU (I'm learning this on the fly!) and try and find the RUU at the filefactory link which is posted several times (I can't post it).
On the USB pass through - is there a special HTC driver? I couldn't get that working either!

For the USB passthrough I just went into HTC Sync on my laptop which I ever use and hit the update button and it installed the latest usb driver as part of it.
Another update:
I've just tried a Vodafone Qatar sim in the phone and that doesn't work with wifi either so it looks like a country issue rather than a provider issue.

Idle thought - I've had a thought that the issue might be character set related? I.E. Our phones are expecting one character set (in my case - the SEA language), and from the SIM it's picking up Qatar, running into an Arabic character somehow, and this is causing some sort of mis configuration on wireless.
I heard back from HTC again on their baseband/kernel question - I asked why the status was pending closed, they said it's part of the process they need to do when they go back to the user. They say to "kindly notice that HTC are working the issue".
As I'm the only one they're asking the questions from, do I revert back to gingerbread tonight and give up, or deal with the first world hardship of having a non smart smart phone in the hope I can help others?

Even I tried Vodafone sim and wifi wasn't working. Then I tried Indian Sim and bingo wifi was working. So I updated my ticket with HTC support team and their reply was standard one that we have forwarded your recent post to the team in head office. Man this is so frustrating.

Well I've spoken to HTC in the UK with a really nice guy there who didn't try to fob me off with the usual, reboot, hard reset etc etc
He listened to what I told him and admitted he has no idea what the issue is, they are going to report it and see what they can do, in the meantime he did suggest a factory reset would be worth a shot. I pointed out that if it is a fault with both Qtel AND voda that maybe they should stop the rollout in Qatar until they have tested it and fixed the issue.
I really don't want to have to reload all my apps and more importantly lose all the data stored in the apps so I'm off to find a backup.
If it's not working by Friday, I'm going to root the damn thing and flash a new ROM (even if it's 2.3) on it and sod the warranty.

I've done a factory reset very early on in this saga and it made no difference...
Edit - Someone in the ICS makes it to the middle East thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570818&page=2 says it'll be fixed this month, although I question how they can know this yet HTC are asking me for questions on the nature of the problem - I.E. still debugging. Lucky it's early in the month.
Hi guys, I am having a strange problem with my nexus 5, or I should say my Wife's Nexus 5. Right what is happening is that when my wife's phone is connected to a WiFi network it does not receive calls. My phone is identical and has no problems at all. The phone has been back to where we bought it from for repair twice and they finally gave us a brand new phone. After getting home and restoring my wife's phone it has the same problem. Both phones are stock and updated to 4.4.4 . I have checked the settings and as far as I can see they are identical. If I reboot the phone it will ring with WiFi on but after a couple of minutes the problem returns.
Now I would guess that an app is causing the problem but I have tried uninstalling and re installing most of her apps but still can't solve this. I have spent ages on the phone to our provider (T-Mobile UK) tried my sim in her phone but still have the same problem. Is there any type of diagnostic software or app I can run to try and pin point the problem?
The phone has been factory reset but still got the same problem! Bearing in mind the phone is brand new and has the same problem as the old one its got to be an app hasn't it, but how to work out which one
Thanks in advance

Well after an evening of uninstalling and re-installing apps and resetting it seems to have cured itself. I am sure it was something to do with the recent system update, as the problem only started recently. The phone is just over 6 months old and we have had no problems until this. Still fingers crossed it seems ok now.

Hi, i'm having the same problem!! When on wifi sometimes calls get through but most of the time it blocks them, I also thought it had to be something about an app but i even booted the phone into safemode which disables all 3rd party apps and the issue was still there. Where you being able to narrow it down to something in particular??
EDIT: Nevermind, i think i found a thread with the solution.

I should have updated ages ago, the problem was in fact being caused by the sim card. Dont know why it suddenly started playing up but it coincided with the software update to 4.4.4 But my phone was identical and had no problem and my wifes did. Compared to hers my sim was relatively new we eventually ordered a replacement sim and there has been no problem since

Hi,
I recently purchased moto g 3rd gen phone. The notification drawer keeps on popping in and out itself. This happens even when the phone is in idle state or in the app menu.
I have updated the phone and even tried factory reset but the problem persists.
Any help would be appreciated.
You are the first one with this problem (i think), so there is verry little information about this bug.
i cant help you sorry
(maybe if you in to a adventure: try flashing a custom rom like Cyanogenmod)
I just got my Moto G3 yesterday (16 GB model, XT1541, Android 5.1.1) and I have the same problem. I've already done a factory reset but basically this problem was there when I first switch on the phone.
Any help is appreciated, this is really getting on my nerves...
Sounds like a bad touchscreen, no?

That's what I thought at first, too. But it simply happens without anything touching the phone/screen.
I'd say it's a bug that some software (installed on the phone already - I had this bug after just switching on the brand new phone) is causing.
Hi, for some reason my wife's U11 just decided to stop working - but only the sim and wifi. The no sim message shows and wifi won't turn on. I've reset network settings and have gone as far as a complete factory reset to no avail. It seems to me to be a hardware issue, so I'd like to know if there is anything else I might be able to try? I'm out of ideas, and if it truly is a hardware fault, then that kinda sucks, but oh well. It was a nice phone while it lasted...
I should add that bluetooth still works.

That's super interesting to me. Do you know when it happened to you? It really feels quite coincidental to have this happen to a few people.
It happened just 2-3 month ago. First I wasn't able to turn the phone on cause of the WLAN issue. Cause my phone space was locked I wasn't able to authorize myself cause of the disabled connection. After a few tries I put my Sim card inside the phone, and it connected and I could authorize and disable this memory lock. But afterwards it never worked again with my sim card. It seems like it wouldn't even recognize my Sim Card. No Pin question or symbol at the upper front of the display. Nothing. It's really werid and annoying, that something like this happens. I can't believe that it's hardware related.. How would it be possilbe that it's hardawrare related and whe have suddenly the same problems nearly the same time...
I should note that my wife has had her screen replaced before (she dropped the phone and it basically cracked all over). Have you replaced yours?
Yes I replaced mine too. But nevermind I had that issues before. My phone ran all well with cracked screen and one day I had that issues... So I changed my screen in the hope it would fix it.

I'm wondering if it will be a more widespread problem. I'm going to try and get in touch with HTC and see what they have to say. Will update if I hear back from them.
Okay, that would be great. But I don't have high expectations that they'll answer. Due to the fact that they have stopped there smartphone section for now and no more official updates and stuff like that.
But let's hope die at least...
I have exactly the same issue. It happened yesterday. It was just there, sitting on my desk, one minute it was working and I was checking my e-mail, the next one it was not. The phone now detects no SIM card and if I try to enable wi-fi it just hangs in "enabling" status for some time until it gives up and disables it again. I am not 100% sure, but I think I also had a short time in which wifi was no longer working and the SIM connection still was, I remember seeing the 4G logo and maybe I even browsed the internet for a short while. By the way, I have not replaced my screen. Now I know that I can probably spare myself the hassle of doing a hard reset.
It is really suspicious that this weird problem is happening to several people within a short time frame. It would be cool to hear if HTC has anything to say, but I am also not expecting anything from them now, especially for a phone which is out of warranty.
In case it can help, as the author reported, bluetooth still works and it is possible to connect the phone to the internet using bluetooth tethering on another phone (the good old M8 helped here ). This doesn't solve the issue, but is much better than nothing, most apps will work and it is easier to make a controlled migration to another phone.
Any news here?

Same issue here!!! Help!!!
I have the same issue with a U11+ bought in Germany (I know, other model but hey). I have tried using the other sim slot and using another (definitely working) sim. WiFi doesn't work either. My phone has no visible damage (not even scratches) and no parts were replaced. I can't remember it ever getting wet either. For me it stopped working on 2. of September.
Sorry guys. HTC were really slack at getting back to me, and unfortunately they want me to send the phone in to get it inspected. I know it's out of warranty and since my wife is well and truly into her Huawei P30, this phone is unfortunately going to just have to remain this way. Sorry for not having any better info.
The same issue I am facing now. No SIM CARD Detected and WiFi isn't connecting.
What things I have tried doing so far?
1.) Factory Reset - 3 times.
2.) TWRP Based RUU Restores ( 2 possible versions tried )
3.) Tried Restoring zip based restore
4.) Did a Full Internal + External SD Card Wipe and then flashed RUU.
5.) Restored stock ROM.
Nothing is working at all.
Now, Trying to do S-OFF but as the phone itself is not booting into a normal OS, I cannot install Sunshine app and proceed. Help needed, at least in getting the OS to work.
Thank You.

It seems there's no way without replacing hardware to fix it. But if we don't know what causes this error we cannot proceed.
I tried the same things as you did. Also unlocked bootloader. My device is starting but I cannot proceed to the main menue cause of no internet connection. I'd love to try a custom rom. That's the only thing missing.
Also if the phone is rooted there are WIFI Error fixing apps and check.
I have bought myself a OnePlus 7T pro MClaren edition and I'm really happy with it. But also I don't want to accept that the htc just died from nothing.
Same issue here, happend a few months ago and after a week the phone started working. Now again no SIM detected and wifi won't connect.
