Notification drawer problem - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently purchased moto g 3rd gen phone. The notification drawer keeps on popping in and out itself. This happens even when the phone is in idle state or in the app menu.
I have updated the phone and even tried factory reset but the problem persists.
Any help would be appreciated.

You are the first one with this problem (i think), so there is verry little information about this bug.
i cant help you sorry
(maybe if you in to a adventure: try flashing a custom rom like Cyanogenmod)

I just got my Moto G3 yesterday (16 GB model, XT1541, Android 5.1.1) and I have the same problem. I've already done a factory reset but basically this problem was there when I first switch on the phone.
Any help is appreciated, this is really getting on my nerves...

Sounds like a bad touchscreen, no?

That's what I thought at first, too. But it simply happens without anything touching the phone/screen.
I'd say it's a bug that some software (installed on the phone already - I had this bug after just switching on the brand new phone) is causing.

[Q] Phone keeps rebooting

Hi, I've bought a LG Quantum (C900) from AT&T a few weeks ago, and since I bought it, it keeps rebooting.
When I say rebooting, I mean that it simply restarts, like if I had turned it off and then on again...
It happens a lot, and only when I use non-native apps, like "Ask Ziggy" or "Birthdays".
My phone is not unlocked, but it is SIM-unlocked and I'm using it with a non-AT&T SIM card (I'm from Brazil). I already tried to restore the phone to the default settings via "About" menu on "Settings". The WP7 version is: 7.10.7720.68
Any thoughts about this problem? I didn't find any topic presenting a problem like mine.
Nobody had a problem like this?
It's almost certainly a hardware problem, although you could check and see if there's a stock ROM you can re-flash just in case it has a bad ROM for some reason. My guess is a problem with the storage chip, though.
Can it, by any chance, be happening with apps that are not Mango supported?

[Q] Moto G rebooting

My wifes Moto G occaisionally crashes and reboots. It hasnt happened very often but I would like to know if it is happening to anyone else and if they know the cause? Maybe it's a bug that will be sorted with a future software upgrade?
The same is happening to me right now, I'm running 4.3. Sometimes it becomes very annoying; I already contacted Motorola through, they're supposed to call me later today...
I hope that KitKat solves this issue because I don't want to root yet.

Ah so it's not just us then. I hope that an update will cure it as I doubt that my wife would let me root her phone. Will be interesing to see what Motorola say.

Mine even reboots during the start-up animation, it has become so annoying. A shame since it is a great device
I'll report with the results later.

Same issue here. Got the device, (US GSM) on Dec. 14th, and had it happen a couple of times. I didn't think anything of it, because this phone is for my son, and I was trying out parental control stuff on it. I wrapped it, and it sat under the tree till the 25th, which is when I updated it to 4.4, and the crashing has gotten worse. I get random app crashes, and more reboots now than ever. I cleared the partition cache, which didn't work. I am going to try a factory wipe and see if that fixes it, but I honestly doubt it. Moto chat told me to call in the morning to talk to a level 2 tech.
So, there seem to be a few of us, but I didn't see anything on their support forums....

So far I've had a single instant reboot in the camera app. Hope it doesn't get worse.
The phone is still rebooting sometimes. Is there any way I can check why it is happening like something that will create an error log? Or does anyone have any tips for stopping it happening? It is a very minor nuisance at the moment but I'm afraid it might get worse. Especially if it is a problem with the hardware rather than the software.
I have a UK moto g and it hasn't rebooted on me yet the past week I have had it
Sent from my XT1032 using xda app-developers app
I've got the International 8 GB version from Koodo and it hasn't rebooted since I started using it full time on Dec 28. It remains powered up 24/7.
Often these reboots and crashes are user app related, it may be a good idea to data factory reset the phone and see if the issue remains.
Undervolting the cpu may cause these issues too if you undervolt too much.
I have 120 apps installed and had no crash/reboot so far in the 3 weeks i had the phone.
I have same trouble. My device is crashing and rebooting sometimes at day. Is there any solution??
Moto g purchased in mexico, telcel.
Guys, return it to your phone dealer if you can. Waiting for a fix(that may or may not come) will just increase your pain. If the service center spots the restart, they should definitely repair/replace your phone.

Yes it could be but I think it's most likely Android OS or Motorola's own certain app that's causing this. My device resets so frequently that's it become impossible to use, unbelievably it reboots every 5-10min, even when I leave the phone on standby I see it rebooting it self.
It's no just specific app that I use, it has rebooted while I'm browsing (Google Chrome), in Gallery app, on Play Store and also when I was transferring images from pc to the device!
Motorola Chat support are useless, they just game me links to Moto UK Support contact, that's it. Not much of advice.
So I will be taking it back to Phone4u store and possibly get it replaced if they can.
Kit kat seems to have fixed problem.

My wifes phone seemed to be getting worse. It rebooted four times the day before yesterday. It always seemed to be worst when we were travelling.
Yesterday morning the Kit Kat update became available. The phone hasn't rebooted since. Hope I'm not speaking too soon but fingers crossed it seems to be fixed.
We got 2 Moto G's in our family (one for me, one for my father), both ordered from Amazon.de as 8gb version (XT1032)
I haven't seen any reboots on one of these devices. They both got updated to 4.4.2 yesterday and also no crashes.
Has anyone found out what is causing the crashes? Is it maybe even a hardware failure?

If the Kit kat upgrade has cured the problem on my wifes phone then it must have been software related. Possibly an app I had downloaded was causing it. It's worth pointing out as well that most people didn't seem to have this issue.
BTW I spoke to Motorola chat a few days ago using the help app. on the phone. They told me it was probably an app I had downloaded causing it and a factory reset would sort it. Installing the upgrade seems to have done the same thing though.
Happy to hear it's not something hardware related.
I even had reboots with my nexus 5, 4 on random basis (not often). Must be some sort of app I've had installed on all my devices
I received mine in december (from Amazon [Retail.FR]) and experienced some crashes (almost every day).
I installed KitKat on it and did two factor resets to be sure it was not software related issues. Since then, a week ago, I experienced a crash every day and half (screenshot). Crash happened without any reason or specific context.
My serial number is: TA8900B6##
I decided to return my Moto G to Amazon and buy a new one.
I'm experiencing the same and I decided to try to run a constant logcat in the background to see what's going on. Also is there any way to have a constant recording with dmesg? I'm no linux commands expert.
For logcat (in terminal emulator) I used logcat > sdcard/logcat.txt which is growing in size as far as I can see. Hopefully this brings some news.
Good luck everyone.
Cheers

[Q] Moto G Airplane problems on KitKat

Hi, After a recent update to KitKat on my Motorola G (Tesco Mobile) the phone randomly goes into airplane mode has anyone else had this problem? I had guessed that it maybe a problem with an app that may need updating for KitKat support but before I weed out all the apps I thought I would ask here in the hopes someone has had the same problem and has resolved it somehow.
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully recieved.
Thankyou.

Wow, that's strange
Try rebooting the phone turn it off and on
See if that works
2) See your app list, and LOOK at the less unkown apps and remove them first and see
Best of luck

I should have mentioned its running a stock rom, anyway yes I have tried a factory reset as well as a reboot with the same issues, it could be an app but doing a reset should have sorted that out, I seem to remember though that apps reinstalled after reset etc, I will check though and publish any findings thanks Krisshp, in the meantime if anyone else has come across this issue I'd appreciate your thoughts - Thankyou. :fingers-crossed:

Apps aren't able to control Airplane mode directly since Android 4.2.x, so it must be something else.
Probably the SIM is not correctly set.
Take it out and put it back.

Interestingly mine did the same thing a few days ago , but ( touch wood! ) only once!. Picking up the phone, I noticed that there was no network status. Trying to make a call said 'disable airplane mode'. Turning airplane mode on then off fixed it for me.
Is your phone still locked to Tesco ? mine's unlocked and on giffgaff.
moto g aeroplane mode headache
Moto g 8gb on giffgaff
Since turning on daydream and upgrading to KitKat mine has also done the same. Turned off daydream and rebooted phone so far so good about to go on 2 hour journey will let you know my findings. Fingers crossed. How ever I noticed just before upgrading to this phone that the same thing started to happen in my old c905.coincidence? We are all using the o2 network
I have the same airplane mode / loss of service notification on my 8gb moto g on Talkmobile which is on the voda-uk network.
same problem
I've still got the same problem. Will either turn on airplane mode automatically at random points or usually when I try to make a call. has anybody managed to find a solution?
Check that the SIM is well placed. My SIM is faulty factory and sometimes come off easily when I remove the cover.
It's definitely not the sim. I've only had problems since the update. Sim has been taken out, wiped and put back in.
I've done a factory reset using the software and the power off way. If there is a way to put jellybean back on, that might help. Its just a random glitch to have airplane mode turning itself on randomly.
has anyone found a solution to this?
my phone keeps putting itself into airplane mode since the KK update, it's ruining the experience of this phone for me
Well you have two options. 1- Warranty. 2- Root the phone and try whit a Custom Room's and try out until solve the problem(and lose the warranty). I preferred the first one
Just been looking for more info on this. There's some reports on of similar issues on the Nexus with 4.3 ( and maybe 4.4.2 )
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58317
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=58495
There's also a couple of threads on the Motorola forums relating to the Moto G ( not sure how many of the posters there are common to here ? )
https://forums.motorola.com/posts/eee23c886b

NB sorry can't post direct links yet!!
im having the same issues on my retail moto g, it's got to be a bug in the kk update as it never happened on jb !
also my sister's tesco moto g is having the same problem
this worked for me
had the same problems when moved from 4.3 UK retail to DE retail.
the issue was fixed when i did a factory reset to my phone.
No problems since.
As i recall the flashall scripts i used to flash stock roms (both UK and DE) do not format /cache and /data partitions.
same problem here and seems to be getting worse,no problems while using wifi but when switching too data it goes into airplane mode, this can happen straight away or go for hours without doing it, really annoying
lots of complaints on the motorola forums and samsungs now so hopefully google are on the case..

my girls phone has this problem, I have the solution.
Just flash the 4.3 respective radio.img so for example go to the moto g radio and kernel page and expand the 4.3 content box and choose the radio for your region whatever that is you will notice only a few are different, then flash it in either twrp or cwm or in fastboot
fastboot flash radio (filename).img
I personally flashed twrp and the flashed the radio.zip whilst in the custom recovery
if anyone needs help with this PM me
MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE CORRECT RADIO I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR BRICKS

Moto g 4g lte 8gb bug tactile

Hello everyone,
since I have my motorola moto g 4g I have a bug from time to time the phone starts to do the work by itself without me touching the screen if someone has an idea or just the problem please .
thank you in advance
Bug Moto G 4G
Hello,
I have my Motorola moto G 4g since 2 days, and I have the same problem. But I think it is not the tactile screen because it is not a random problem.
I see the problem only in this application but not each time. (When I don't touch the screen):
In Gmail: New Email / back.
In Hd explorer: Search / back
In appli menu: Go to widget
In parameter menu: back
I have no idea to resolve that. Thank you for your help and idea.
and another one
Hello.
Same as you guys, 2 weeks I have now the moto g (4g) and every once in a while the screen works on its own. I have noticed though the "default" if I might say comes from the upper left part like if someone was touching it. Does it come from the same part with you?
A member from my family has the same phone and no worries (lucky bastard).
Hoping somebody finds soon a real answer to this, because I'm seriously thinking of getting rid of it....
this has been any issue on every motorola touch screen phone i've owned. i still dont have the moto g but i was worried about getting one because of this exact problem

Hello everybody,
It seems to me that this is a widespread problem in the new Moto G. Several people in Brazil are having the same problem.
One way to isolate the problem is to enable the "developer options" (search the Internet how to do it, it's easy) and then enable the "show touches" that will visually show every touch on the screen. You will see several ghosts touching the screen, in addition to real ones, there are also false touches.
My Moto G LTE had Android 4.4.4 and I couldn't find solution via software, had to send it to the Motorola service and it has not returned yet. So do not know if the problem has a nice solution.
One more with a buggy tactile screen
Hi everybody,
Finally, I'm happy because I'm not alone!
I've just bought a Moto G 4G and I have exactly the same problems than all of you (except that it's a "french" phone).
I've tried the reset, it did not work.
I send it back for fixing and the problem is still there. I supposed that as it's transient they did'nt see what was the trouble.
I'm really disappointed because the phone is quite good but too often i can't use it properly...
Any news to help me to find a way to fix it? (Motorola don't belive me and suggest that it's an apk problem)
Hey mates...the problem is possibly a kernel issue...reflash stock ROM with the respective kernel for your device and try again...
Cheers mates
Hi itouchable,
Thanks a lot for the advice. I'm not really sure that i know how to do but i will look for. I was expecting that lolipop will solve this problem. Do you think that it may be possible? I saw that generally the change of the custom rom does not eliminate this bug

[Q] Horrible performance after Lollipop update - what to do?

Hello guys
I updated a Moto G and it was not responding well at all, so I wiped the Cache ... but the problem is still there.
The keyboard gets stuck; or the keyboard comes up but can't type; or apps not responding, and not able to switch between apps... generally very glitchy and unresponsive. I had thought lollipop would be better on the Moto G, but I know how terrible it was on my Nexus 7...
What to do, are you guys getting performance as good/better than kitkat, or is lollipop a no-no on Moto G?
Also, I am guessing the only thing I can now do is to do a factory reset/wipe... which my sister will not be happy about... is there anything else I can try before that.
The phone is not rooted, not customised at all.
tx
Mark.
