One key starting to play up - HTC ChaCha

My "p" button is starting to be less responsive anyone got any tips on iffy buttons?
Like blowing, banging or tapping on it?
Playing abba to the phone for 17mins?
That kind of thing.
Oh apart from sending it back as I'm s-off and using osr so htc will just laugh as they send it back as no doubt that's what made the button break.
sent usin' tapatalk innit.

ABBA should work, but playing for 18-19 minutes is recommended daily

I bought a second ChaCha for my girlfriend and it had a dodgy 'n' key from the start. It seemed to work okay for a while if I jamemd it down hard for a few seconds, but the issue would reappear eventually.
I didn't realise until after i'd unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom rom, but I flashed a stock rom and re-locked it and the shop gave me a refund without any problems (apart from the girl at the desk not knowing that 9 days is less than 14, but that's another story...)

I had 2 with faulty buttons before this one that was same day return and I hadn't roooted so no problem...

Back button has a mind of its own

Title says it.
Doesn't matter what I'm doing, any app, any time, it will randomly vibrate and go back as if I hit the back button.
It seems to happen especially when I tap something.
Ex. On the xda android app, I tap into a thread, loads up, I feel my phone vibrate and it goes back.
Its really frustrating. I never noticed it until I started flashing roms. I always flash back to stock & wipe data bla bla bla so I know I'm not doing anything wrong there.
Anyone?

It might be a malfunctioning button. I had a similar issue with my home button where the phone would go nuts at random times with the screens switching back and forth. It's pretty rare, but when it happens it's usually hardware related.
Well that's just wonderful. Aka I'm screwed.

How are you screwed? Backup with TiBu, flash back to stock w/ ODIN and take it to a AT&T repair center and they can swap you out with another device.
I got this on upgrade through Amazon. At&t wont swap it unless I got it through them. Only way I can do it is through Amazon and my 30 days are already up so Idk how that would work...

Not true. I bought my Captivate from Radioshack and the AT&T warranty center replaced the phone for me w/o any issues. As long as you did not buy it from a guy who found it when it fell-from-the-truck, it should be fine.

what if its past the 30 days? and do i need my receipt from Amazon or anything like that?
Mine also does this, instead I've noticed it does it with the home button. Mine causes it to trigger the search button. I've noticed since I've switched to Froyo though that the problem doesn't occur as often, but it still does it probably once or twice a day.

What ROM are you running? I am having the same issues, but I have it with both the back AND the Home buttons. It seemed to not be as bad with the Stock JF6
I've went to the AT&T Warranty Center with a phone that refused to turn on/charge/etc.
All they asked of me was my phone number. They checked the phone out, etc. and gave me another one.
I think I might have figured it out. I work in a warehouse in Spokane Washington and right now its colder than tits out. Might be the phone getting to cold. Ill know after today n ill let you guys know
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Mine does it in a warm room, outside, freakin anywhere. BUT I did switch from stock JF6, off of a Vibrant ROM. It hasn't happened once today.
I also found out that as far as the repair centers go, if you get a new device you are VERY lucky. Most of the time you are going to get a referbished item. They go in range from the 1006-1010 phones.

I've got the same problem going on with my captivate. I tried a couple different ROM's to see if it had any effect. It was happening on Perception build 4, Axura RC1, and on stock. I'm guessing it's a hardware issue, but if someone's found a solution, please keep us updated!
I have the same problem but with the search button. It happens everywhere, but the other night it was freezing so i was sitting next to a space heater and it really wigged out.

You might try this.
Okay guys---first post after lurking and learning for awhile. Try not to ROFL with this suggestion. I've owned my captivate for a bit over a month. Before ever turning it on I put a high-priced screen protector in place. Immediately I was plagued with the problem of the buttons doing things without asking. Press the home button and get search, vice versa and every possible combination. Took it back to the phone shop and this 15-year old looking sales guy took one look and asked if I minded if he trimmed a quarter of an inch off the bottom of the screen protector. I said no and in five minutes I left with a captivate that no longer mis-fires with every touch. Now, I suppose you guys with this problem don't even have a screen protector in place.
FishDoc
I have a screen protector and I've considered that being the problem. Haven't used my phone much today so I haven't really noticed it but it has happened a few times...especially in the xda app. Ugh this phone is gonna be the death of me

Should not matter. I was past 30 days. I would've returned the phone and avoided the hassle if it was in 30 days. Surprisingly it took me less than 5 minutes to get a replacement phone in the warranty center.
All they asked me was the phone number of the account and name on the account and my ID to confirm that I was the owner of the phone. No receipt was asked.

I found out from the service center in my area. 0-30 days, brand new phone. 31 days-1 year, most likely a referb phone, but you could get lucky and get a new one. Over 1 year you're SOL.
I have a 1007, and was offered a 1008. The ranges run from 1006-1010, 1010 being the newest batch, and I of course was going for a 1010. I decided to skip the 1008, and wait to see if they got any new shipments in.
I'd been have tons of problems with the buttons on mine, the Home and Back were mental! I went back to stock JF6, I only had a couple random presses of the back button. Right now I'm running Assonance 2.0, it's i9000JK3 based and Modem. Not a single random pressed all day today. I had pretty heavy use today
so i did some tweaking on my phone and i think it's fixed, at least for now. i found that the stock jf6 rom had the most issues with it, so i flashed jh3. from there, i flashed up to perception7, and i haven't had the issue again yet.

Sold my phone

My phone had been perfect for about 2 weeks then all of a sudden, problems exploded like a ticking bomb went off. At first the unlocking circle rejected my touch input 4 out of 5 attempts, waking up the phone became a luck draw, then a dead pixel (black one, dead forever) developed right in the center of the screen and irritated my soul every time I look at it, plus the heat issue that's been there since the beginning, there are just too much for me to get over with and I lost faith and patience in going further, what should be fun and excitement turned into constant pain so I decided to lose the burden.
I still trust in Sensation going to be a one of the best smartphones in due time, and I might come back considering it again once it's cleared of issues and bootloder lock.
So you unloaded your problems on some poor sap, huh?
Why didnt you just return it?
maybe you had a defective phone. you could have gone and exchange a new one. I never have any prob with my phone... bootloader will be unlocked next month so the phone will be more awesome...
I agree, should have exchanged it at least once before giving up on it.
sorry forgot to mention, authorized HTC sellers don't have Sensation here in China so I bought my phone "off-market" which means replacement warranty is strictly within 7 days. I would exchange if I have the slightest chance...

This^ It's messed up that people will sell broken defective stuff. I can bet the seller mentioned non of the above problems to the buyer.

Does rooting get rid of the touch screen issue?

Quick question.. I know most of us are being plagued by the annoying touch screen issues.. so my question is:
Users that are using root/custom firmware.. are you still experiencing these issues? This will be the deciding factor in whether or not I root this phone seeing as there's not any release dates for any software updates.
I bought the S4G on July 9th. For the first week or so, I had a problem with the touchscreen where dragging the unlock ring up would rather bring an icon up. It would take 3-4 tries before the phone would really pull up the unlock ring.
After the first week, the problem went away for me. I have been S-OFF since the first of August with perm root and the problem still hasn't come back. Not sure if this is the same issue as you, but the problem seemed to fix itself.
What exactly is S-OFF? And what does it do for you?

My phone used to that at one point and it drove me crazy! Since then I did the whole rooting thing, flashed Civic's back2basic rom and I've haven't had any problems since. It's running super smooth. Did two other sensations with no problems, lag or reboots yet

Not sure if my problem is the same. On my Sensation, when my screen is turned on, it's not responsive in all places for the first 6 to 7 seconds. After 10 secs or so, it's working flawlessly. It's especially annoying when answerring or cancelling a phone call.
Do you think rooting and S-off would help this issue? I'm now on OTA 2.3.4
S-OFF, ROOT, custom rom etc. does NOT fix touch screen issue. That's what you were asking about, right?
OK, thanks for clearing that out.
The thing is, that I only have this issue after getting the phone back from repair (shattered glass). The repair guy couldn't find anything that could cause this issue. But due to the repair this touch screen vulnerability was triggered. Can't go back to HTC now, due to the repair. So I'm stuck for now.

If you haven't come across it yet, give this thread a read.
It does not. I used the Touchscreen Booster from the market. Works fine.
Rooting helps you to control your phone. You can try different roms and see if the problem goes.
Rooting doesn't but flashing a 2.3.4 ROM will solve ur issues more than likely. I'm using LeeDroid and its great no lag no dead spots.

Reboot?

Phone has been great. Was walking on my floor to my office at work today and phone rebooted while in my pocket. Only thing I can think of is that it connects to WiFi at office so maybe in the process of doing that there was an issue? Has anyone had any reboots? This phone has been rock solid until today so I really hope it doesn't become a common occurence.

some people have had an issue w/ the phone in their pocket and actually having the power button held , thus the phone rebooting. I personally have never had an issue but people are calling for a menu or something to pop up instead of just rebooting.

Never thought about that happening. I doubt that's my case because I'm wearing pants with baggy pockets and I've carried the phone in these pants a lot without a reboot. My guess is in my case it was a kernel panic.

I always worry about buttons being depressed when in my pocket so I always carry it in my left pocket with the top facing up and the screen facing in. That way when standing the power button is on top and when sitting the volume buttons are on top.

Probably just a side effect of a reboot. As caches and temp files build back up you might start seeing slowdown again.

The One X may be on Android version 4.0.3 till eternity. When updates are pushed, the Software number will always change.
I've had one random reboot yesterday around 3:15EDT to be precise. I've not dwelled on it too much, but honestly, it does bug me a bit.
I've had mine do it once or twice since I got it on Monday.

Mine did it too but I realized it happens when I was putting my shoes on. I figured out it is the power button getting held down. If you hold it down with the phone locked you will see it start to flash and say keep holding for a restart. That must be it.
Had mine reboot by itself sitting on the table
I had it happen to me a handful of times since I got it (first day). I was actually thinking about trading it but I decided to try a factory reset. Since then, it hasn't happened again.
I had one random reboot either on the first or second day, but didn't have one after that. I think it was a kernel panic though because it was while the phone was going through the "loading homescreen" bug.
happened several times since I got it 3 weeks ago. stock OS, no root. phone reboots all by its lonesome - no pressure to the power button required.
Past 5 days of up time now on stock 1.85. So far so good.

The 3 bottom buttons suddenly stopped working?

Hi,
I was using my phone HTC ONE S, and suddenly the 3 bottom buttons stopped working?
Iv tried a factory reset, holding all 3 for 5-10 seconds etc but nothing is happening, it lights up etc fine but no response what so ever.
anybody else have this issue?
unbelievable, after 4 factory resets and messing around, i install smart task-bar so i can actually use the phone . 20-30 mins into using it out of nowhere the soft-keys at the bottom kick bak into action, im so baffled
If I were you I would report this to HTC
Sent from my HTC Desire C using xda app-developers app
yh ill message them about it.
Do you guys reckon its a software or hardware problem?
madness, the problem reoccured, the Buttons work flawlessly, then suddenly will cut out, it makes no sense :S.
Ill contact HTC about it but if theres an easy solution which means me not going without a phone for a week while they repair, would be great :/
Does a restart fix the problem? If not I'd imagine it being a hardware fault.
But you could try to factory reset the thing and see if that helps.
Are you on stock rom/kernel or custom? rooted? recovery? Changed hboot or anything?
haven't rooted or anything, the factory reset doesn't work either , after a while it will just return to life until the next time they decide to become unresponsive.
Iv contacted HTC, but i expect replies to be slow over the xmas period
