Hello there! I got a question. I was playing a game on my phone, and it decided to restart on me when I tried to quit the game. After it rebooted it had all these force closes and proceeded to restart again. It did this one or two more times, So I pulled the battery and turned it back on. Now it starts up fine but a "Low on Space" notification has popped up.
Since that happened, I moved all the stuff I downloaded to the SD card because it worked fine before. After moving everything downloaded to the SD card, it still does it, and I've even uninstall a few things. Any help is appreciated!

Couple of questions to begin with:
1. What ROM are you using? Is it one of lfaber's or a stock rom? What version is it? (For stock its either 2.3.5 or 2.3.6)
2. How many apps do you have installed? Hundreds or only a few?
3. Have you made any modifications to your phone's software / hardware?
The reason I'm asking is that I haven't heard of anyone having this issue. I had it quite a bit on previous phone (Motorola Backflip) but not on the Atrix 2 and I'm a moderate to heavy user.
I'm using stock 2.3.6 and I have 77 user apps installed. I haven't modified any software or hardware. I installed a few apps and went from having a little over 1gb to under 416 mb. The only thing I downloaded were 3 games that were 20+ mb but have since uninstalled all of them and restarted my phone a few times in hope it's some kind of glitch but So far it's remained.

Hmmm... Can you tell me what free / used space you have in your RAM, your SD card, and your phone storage? I assume you know where it is, but its in Settings -> applications -> Manage applications. See below for screenshots and arrows pointing out what I'm looking for.

I guess, I will have to resort to a Factory Reset. I have no clue what used up so much space..

Hmmm... Do you have a good number of email accounts that automatically download attachments and never deletes old emails?
Corporate Sync loves to do that, especially if you're transferring files around a lot and keep like 2 months of messages.
I have my Live Account and Gmail account, but that's it. I don't use them a lot. I just read emails, but I never delete them. I don't ever get any with attachments.

4gb internal storage used with only 70 or so apps installed is unusual. generally dialer storage and SMS/mms messages share the storage also. you may want to look into that as well.could also be a glitch with the dalvik cache.clearing system cache and dalvik from clockworkmod recovery would be a good thing to try
OK, I'll try that. I haven't installed Clockwork yet as I haven't had the urge to install a rom yet. Lol.

How many max no. of apps[at any point of time] have you installed on your device ?
I had heard someone saying 200 apps... so was curious to know about this
Off-topic- Which program do u use to back up these apps so that you dont have to install them again after flashing a new rom
a poll would have been fun
I have way over 365+ Apps installed, that i simply did a 1 button restore using Titanium Backup from my SGS (User Apps+User Data)
it was totally painless
then in Market, i hit "Update All" and Bam! all Apps were updated to the latest version.
so far I've not come across any OLD 2.1/2.2 software that does not work properly in 2.3
well technically speaking they are NOT old anymore, since they were all UPDATED to the latest version from Market
that's probably what prevented all the errors

Wow, and I thought I was a "shameless app whore" with all the apps I have (130 or so)!
How much memory have those 365 apps used up? Curious because of other discussions over the need (or lack of, in my opinion) to use apps2sd or not on the Nexus S.
that's why i always complaing about the missing microSD
currently sitting at around 800 MB on apps usage, some games are huge (Gamerloft / EA), and Copilot GPS software takes up another 3 GB, it doesn't leave me much for MP3 and Animes/Movies on the go
^^
You're not the only one who thought they had a ton of apps installed....at one point in time I think I had 150+ installed but I've since done some pruning and am down to 128 now (according to appbrain).
I'm afraid that with all the space available on the Nexus S I'm going to resort back to my app hoarding days.
yup, i love appbrain, makes Cataloguing my apps such a breeze
also finding new or better apps to what i currently have already

Yeah, I miss the sdcard, but am getting by without it. I can easily fill up 28 gigs with just music, videos, and titanium or nandroid backups.
Doesn't your CoPilot map data go on the sdcard? Mine does. That doesn't count as part of the internal space for apps that we get (~ 1gb) or the need/lack-of-need to use apps2sd. I'm sure you know that, but some of the noobs might be confused by that. The actual app is only about 15mb in the apps space.

Hi Folks,
My Apollo has been fairly consistent in displaying the titled message above despite all of the apps that I've installed being moved to the SD Card.
Is there something that I'm missing to free up internal storage like deleting messages etc?
I'm running the G3 Mod at present and didn't really have this problem (or notice it) before.
Baseband Version: I5800XXJP4
Build Number: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] # Froyo_v1,9_Performance.
Build Number: Dutchmods v4.0
I've also had a few issues with my headset connector - it's not been dropped or damaged, so thinking about going back to a stock mod if I need to send it back for repairs. Unless could be due to a bad ROM?
Often the radio does not detect the headset being plugged in - especially the stock Samsung headset but will detect a pair of crapola Skull Candy headphones but the sound volume is very low.
Any suggestions for a stable ROM to use to verify it's not software related?
Check to see if you have an application that is storing a lot of data/cache on your phone's internal memory. Things like Facebook and Web browsers will do this. You can clear some of this cache without issue.
Also, I suggest Kyrillos' ROM 9.5. I am running OC, but Non OC works just as well.
Low memory
I have the same kind of problem. I couldn't even install a 2mb app when the phon's info displayed 16mb free. (w/ stock Telus 2.2 update and kyrillos 9.5)
I tried some stuff and ended up having some google framework being forced to quit on kyrillos.
Strange.

Well I reloaded a modified stock Froyo 2.2 ROM (Froyo.XXJPM/Kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1) and to be fair, my phone is running much better than with any of the custom ROMs it appears...
I still have the problem with the headphone jack, so it'll need to go back to Samsung to get repaired/replaced
I'm not sure why I was running out of so much space, as I used Apps2SD and set the browser cache as well as all programs (where possible) to use the external SD card...
I'm just going to install the minimum on the phone and leave the "toys" for my tablet I think.
Kyorarom
I finally wiped everything and flashed kyorarom and kyorakernel. Restored with titanium app and made well sure before that app2sd was working correctly and that I clicked the install to internal memory option (I think that's what made kyrillos bug and crash, that and I think I clicked restore on the old phone 1.x app in TB) and now everything works so much faster and the battery last longer. After three days, I'm more than satisfied. Some setCpu tweaks and probably a higher class sd card and I should be back to honeymoon with my phone...
I guess I'll never really find out what was bugging the phone so much and why it had such a hard time displaying the correct memory or something.
But god it's good to be able to answer after the first ring and hung up quickly.
Even i am facing the same issue. my interal memory is getting over and i have no option to move apps to sdcard. only few apps have that option. is there anything i could do?
you can install link2sd but it requires root access.

Read points 6 & 7 from here
You can use your sd card as primary storage and increase internal memory to whatever size you want.
Custom roms have this option inbuilt.

I think that this is not about a memory. Here is a matter about it that when one time you download application from Play Store, you it have on SD Card, and install it when you want, without need for download application from Play Store again.
in simple words you can't to it directly.
check this site , you may get something ( I haven't tried )

I would like Play Store to download apk file to SD Card while updating an app. I've got only ~55 MB free of internal storage (while everything possible is moved to sdcard or sdext). I cannot even upgrade some games like Cut The Rope or Fruit Ninja. Play downloads an apk (~40-45 MB) to internal storage, and then tries to install when ~10 MB of free place left. Of course immediately informs about insufficient storage. If it would save on apk on SD card, that would probably help.
You may have to move some apks or data off your internal and move them back after you've situated. A helpful tool I use is DiskView, a free app from Play Store that analyzes your internal memory (system partitions included) and gives you a file browser showing the percentage used of every folder/file. With this you can find a lot of system stuff you don't need like language packs under /system/VODB (40MB), facial recognition database under /system/lib, also libSwypeCore.so in /lib if you don't use Swype (a few MB, remains even if uninstalled). So yeah, try it and see if you can free some space.

Check your usage for the past 3 days. Mine has only used 2.97 me in the last 3 days. But in the last 2 weeks, when I first got it and rooted it, it used 4 GB. It may be just from set up that it uses so much data.

I bet it is a rogue app or many that hasn't been fixed or updated for 7.1. Try removing all old apps and adding back one by one. This is a common issue with new versions of Android

Greenify doesn't fix it, only way so far is applying the update. You can root on the latest update so no reason not to do it.
Assuming your rooted, what's happening is the seamless update feature is repeatedly downloading and attempting to install in background and failing since there is root. Turn off automatic updates in developer options and/or sideload newest ota

Hi there,
First of all, sorry because English is not my mother tongue. I will try to explain my problem here as well as I can but I say sorry in advance for any error that I could make when writing this post here.
Few days ago I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I have barely used it but after few days I realised that nearly 50Gb (49.3 Gb) are already taken by "System/user data" according to what it is specified in the "Device care" storage options of the phone.
As I said, I have had no time to use the device yet apart from receiving a pair of calls with it and trying to install the F-Droid application. The day when I installed F-Droid I downloaded from there the Termux terminal to check if I could be able to check the F-Droid apk agaisnt the signature to verify the download.
One of the days I began to receive notifications to upload the system. I received many of these and I proceeded to allow all of them. There was a moment when I had the impression that the notifications were too many and when I began to read them carefully I noticed that some of them were similar to the previous ones. Notifications continued but I stopped to allow them. By then the display of the device has changed. I think this was due to the change from Android Oreo to Pie.
Some time after I realised about the problem that I mention here. I have not saved any content to the phone yet (no photos, no videos, even I have not set my email there yet).
I tried to reset the mobile to its factory settings. I had no worries of doing that because as I said I had nothing yet important on my phone. After trying that a pair of times the problem of the system storage was still there.
I have tried to use CCleaner and LTE CLeaner to solve this issue without any success. I have tried to dial *#9900# on the phone and then select from menu - "delete dumpstate/logcat" as proposed in Androidforums. I was able to perform this latter mentioned procedure but nothing changed (I have read that for some people is not possible to do this latter because their carriers do not allow them to use this option - *#9900#-)
The other solution that I read and that I have not tried yet is to root the phone and manually trying to find and delete the files which may be taking the storage, however I am hesitant to do so because I have no experience at all and it is a brand new and expensive phone as you know. I feel bad thinking about trying to root and solve this problem by myself and voiding completely my guarantee of the device.
I am still in the period of 15 days in which I can return the phone according the law for protecting customers of my country, however I am afraid that if I go back to the store from where I bought the device and ask there for a change to a new Note 9 they might tell me that everything is just my fault for having installed some apps from outside the Google and Samsung official apps stores.
Do you think I am already out of guarantee for just installing F-Droid and Termux?
Could you give me some advice about how to deal with this issue? Would be possible to avoid the rooting procedure to solve this problem?
Thank you very much for your help.
Any help so far?
Ok the system user data is where apps store their stuff. If you didn't root then you don't even have access to it. So I'm betting that most of it is normal storage stuff. Even my 64 gb uses 22gb of stuff that I can't touch but that is normal.

Well considering that without root you have no access to that partition. I am almost sure that it is normal for the apps you have installed. The only way to find out for sure is to factory reset and look at the storage amount is by default. The more apps you install the more that partition will fill up. ITs not unknown. IT is app data. You must be new to android.

Like I said. That is a partition you have zero control over without root. Mine is stiing at 22gb out of 64.
Even if you did clear it out. You wouldn't be able to use that storage for anything as it is not a user access able storage area
Another pic:
The first time when I passed CCleaner in the storage analysis section of that app it pointed out just something more than 2 GB of system data ... however as I said before the effective taken storage showed by Device care was still nearly 50GB.
Also there is discrepancy with the "Files" app from Google. This latter just point point out to 14.46 GB used out of 512 GB.

50gb out of 512 sounds about right for a samsung device. I wouldnt trust CCleaner. Also without root no app will be able to even read anything on the system partition properly.
The system is broken up into like 20 different partitions.
To be honest I wouldnt worry about it and here is why. Even if you cleared it out and made it empty you still would not be able to use that space as it is for app data only. Which samsung encludes alot of.
Ok, thank you very much for you help Solitarios.lupus
