[POLL] How many max apps have you installed at any point of time? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How many max no. of apps[at any point of time] have you installed on your device ?
I had heard someone saying 200 apps... so was curious to know about this
Off-topic- Which program do u use to back up these apps so that you dont have to install them again after flashing a new rom

a poll would have been fun
I have way over 365+ Apps installed, that i simply did a 1 button restore using Titanium Backup from my SGS (User Apps+User Data)
it was totally painless
then in Market, i hit "Update All" and Bam! all Apps were updated to the latest version.
so far I've not come across any OLD 2.1/2.2 software that does not work properly in 2.3
well technically speaking they are NOT old anymore, since they were all UPDATED to the latest version from Market
that's probably what prevented all the errors

Wow, and I thought I was a "shameless app whore" with all the apps I have (130 or so)!
How much memory have those 365 apps used up? Curious because of other discussions over the need (or lack of, in my opinion) to use apps2sd or not on the Nexus S.

that's why i always complaing about the missing microSD
currently sitting at around 800 MB on apps usage, some games are huge (Gamerloft / EA), and Copilot GPS software takes up another 3 GB, it doesn't leave me much for MP3 and Animes/Movies on the go

^^
You're not the only one who thought they had a ton of apps installed....at one point in time I think I had 150+ installed but I've since done some pruning and am down to 128 now (according to appbrain).
I'm afraid that with all the space available on the Nexus S I'm going to resort back to my app hoarding days.

yup, i love appbrain, makes Cataloguing my apps such a breeze
also finding new or better apps to what i currently have already

Yeah, I miss the sdcard, but am getting by without it. I can easily fill up 28 gigs with just music, videos, and titanium or nandroid backups.
Doesn't your CoPilot map data go on the sdcard? Mine does. That doesn't count as part of the internal space for apps that we get (~ 1gb) or the need/lack-of-need to use apps2sd. I'm sure you know that, but some of the noobs might be confused by that. The actual app is only about 15mb in the apps space.

No problem. I am the same way.

Last night i've maxed out all space, and was unable to install anything else
had to uninstall a whole bunch of apps just to be able to add a new widget to toggle silent mode
yes, App 2 SD is in use
already deleted a whole bunch of MP3 and movies to make space

[Q] Reserved space & differing free space

Realised today that with Zune 4.8 and Mango RTM (didn't monitor with previous versions), I'm seeing differing amounts of free space reports. Zune tells me I have around 1GB left, while my device is sure that I have closer to 2GB. Apart from this discrepancy, I'm concerned about where all my storage space has gone. I have not used 6 GB.
I have disabled reserved space. When I disabled it, the phone still read close to 2GB but Zune updated to show more free space.
I have around 2.5 GB of "reserved space and other content". Third-party stuff should not be taking more than 1 GB (around 10 games & 5 apps).
All my media is synced through Zune and therefore displayed as separate to the reserved space. This adds up to just over 3 GB.
Reserved space should be system files, Apps, Games and their local storage. And well, you're not the only one who has suspiciously high reserved space. I think that the difference between Zune and your phone is speced that is reserved for the system though. You may modify this in Zune by going to Settings -> Phone -> Reserved space.

I am sick to death of this issue and Zune's refusal to let me manage my own files by drag and drop.
I can understand them wanting to protect the OS, but PLEASE LET ME SIMPLY DRAG AND DROP MY OWN MEDIA FROM ANY PC, WINDOWS, LINUX OR MAC, WITHOUT THE NEED FOR ZUNE.
After 7 years of Windows phones, this is becoming a deal breaker for me.
Here's my current "Reserved Space". Apparently I now have over 13GB reserved.
Pretty impressive for a device that only comes with 8GB Is someone going to tell me that this is behaviour by design?

I have the same Problem. Since the Final Mango update, the system "consumes" 8 Gig of memory... deleted ALL deletable Apps, deleted all History in IE, Maps, Office, etc. Still It says that those Apps, System, etc eat 8 Gig. For me it menas that Mango is killing the space. Although the Beta didnt do that!
Maybe this is a Problem which someone should tell MS. Maybe they know something (although I dont believe that!)

Same issue with my Omnia 7 7720 ! I have just 1,5 G0 used by Navigon and 1,5 used by music... and my phone have not free space !! I have also disabled reserved space
Having the same problem, and also a friend of mine. Is there a fix??
I am also getting the same problem! C'mon Microsoft sort it!
the matter is:
1) every pc the phone has been synchronized with reserved some space.
2) ANY content you don't have on your current pc is in "reserved space", so music pictures etc.. synced with other pcs are in this category.
3) any application use storage space. for the application himself (remember xap files are compressed, so a 200 mb xap (like some game) is a 400 mb install.
4) in addition to this, any application use storage space (for settings, only a few kb, for all data...). Navigon uses gigas of data, i downloaded 1.5gb of maps, but on the phone they use more than 2 gb space
5) yes, it is very annoying that i can't know how much space an application use.
Okay, I'm in the same boat. Can't get my reserved space to lower no matter how many applications I delete. It does seem like a bug.
I can understand why they won't let us manage the folders directory, after all the folders names are GUIDs (application IDs). Still it would be good if I could see more than just the storage more my own apps.

what's the first thing you do

This.
I am going to get supernote or whatever.
I know the very FIRST app I will mess with will be Google Music to get my entire collection downloaded for offline use.
The first thing I do is read the right threads
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764480
That'll cover apps to try out. Theres exsisting threads about how to root, which is required for TB.
but to answer your question, the first thing i do, after re-installing all of my apps of course, is restore the data to my apps.
and i believe you need to be Rooted to get full use out of Titanium backup. But the Infinity comes with an that lets you back up the data and the apps.
head over to the Theme forum for answers to the best apps.
If you choose to restore data in addition to apps, be sure to take it slow. Restoring data is a common way of causing seemingly unrelated problems without realizing it.

i usually restore data based on the app. For example, NoteEverything has a backup and restore function. I use the built in restore function (if available) of my apps to do any restoring. Back when i had my DX, i used titanium to restore data. Its been a long time since i did a full data restore.

haha i took pictures of it, set up wifi and downloaded chrome so i dont ever have to use stock browser. now im trying to get the apps from my htc one x to go into this one. is it possible to copy the backups of apps on my phone into the storage of tablet ? and the screen jets out very little but why would i wait a week for amazon to receive it, then to ship out yet another one , not knowing if it will be the same or not .
i then went to best buy about 10 minutes ago and bought a tf201 dock. its a LOT of purple lol. whoever made the thread saying it isnt, is blind. if you have just 1 window it does randomly turn into aluminum gray but wow in like no light the thing is all 7 shades of purple ;] haha i can see that bothering a businessman enough to make him return it but im a hispter and like the color difference so ill keep it. when you guys show people the tablet pretend its a net book, then tear the screen right off and watch their faces DROP xD
Exactly what I do. I go through and restore app+data only on things that need it. Games, color note, so on. I learned the hard way when I couldn't access part of the settings after flashing. Turned out that I was restoring fonts and **** that had no business being restored. Stupid noob mistakes.

[APP] See what's hidden in your Whatsapp!

No memory storage in your phone? Take a look at your Whatsapp!
Most of us use Whatsapp on a daily basis. It is an important part of our social life and even everyday work. Just like everyone else I depend on Whatsapp to connect with my family and friends. Yet, one fact most people do not know is that Whatspp can actually take up so much storage space in your device. I did not realize it until one day I could not open any photo on Whatsapp because my phone kept saying my phone was out of memory space...

What happened? I’m not a selfie lover and I don’t have many games or apps installed. How come my phone was out of memory space?
Going through the storage information page in the system settings, I found that my Whatsapp took about 1.33G storage space!
I guess this is why my phone is running so slowly. It was so slow that sometimes letters appear a second or two after I type them. I’m sure you must have had similar problem before. You may well have noticed that after using Whatsapp or other social media apps for a long time, your phone typically starts to run slower.Don’t worry --it doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with the apps or with your phone. It is just because your phone’s memory storage is getting low.
Usually apps like Whatsapp automatically save all the photo, video and audio messages in your chatting with friends. However, these apps also create cache on your phone as you use them on a daily basis. Overtime it eats up precious system resources while slowing everything down. When your phone is out of memory space, you will have problem opening any new photo or video message like I did.
So, how to speed up your Android phone and get Whatsapp running quickly again?
The traditional way
You can manually delete all the Whatsapp photos, videos and files that you want to get rid of in the Settings menu. You can also remove the cache on any individual app by visiting its property page in the Settings menu and tapping the clear cache button. However, with dozens of apps on most phones, this could take an eternity to complete manually. You also need to be very careful when identifying the junks to avoid accidental deleting.
The quick and user-friendly way
Clean cache with cleaning apps. Using cleaning apps is a much quicker and safer way to clean up app cache and junk files. These apps are very good at identifying and removing junks while keeping the important files intact. Clean master is a very popular app for cleaning up app cache and junk files. Unfortunately, the app itself is quite big and I was not able to install it in my storage-low phone.
Browsing the tool app list in Google Play, I downloaded a cache cleaning app named TC App Booster. It installed very quickly, and the app design is simple and straightforward. By tapping the green Boost button, it helped me release over 1G memory space under 20 seconds! WOW! (I was gonna take a screen shot but it jumped into listing app details right away.) App Booster quickly found all junk files on my phone, and it also listed out file details in every single app, such as Whatsapp, Facebook and Instagram.
I think App Booster is a powerful app. One thing I like the most is that it takes only little space on your phone but can free up a lot more memory.:good: If you are interested in trying a professional and light cache cleaner app, check out TC App Booster! Let me know if you like it. If you are a heavy Whatsapp user like me, I suggest you to clean your phone regularly. It’s important to give it a confidence boost once a while to keep it sharp.
In case you are too lazy to look it up in Google Play, here is the link to download: http://bit.ly/197x2aF

Samsung Cloud App

I've read that the newest update gives a new app for backup called Galaxy Cloud.
Does anyone have it and is it better than Smart Switch, or is more data/information backed up with this new app?
Available on Italian S7 edge
Yes, I'm aware of that, that's where we heard about it for the S7. I guess I'll get it in the coming weeks when the next update shows up.
I've read some more information and it does seem better than Smart Switch.
Never mind now I suppose, the phone came out on Friday here and two friends at work got one.
They are going to test the Cloud backup as they are setting their phones up but will flash them when they can download an unbranded FW.
Then I'll find out how good this backup is. If it's not that great they will be ok, as they were going to set their phone up again anyhow, but the Cloud backup makes it a bit more interesting.
I'll hope it will appear for every S7 Edge. And also the Note 7 always on display functions.
I think we will get those eventually, it's essentially the same phone bar the iris scanner and pen.

and lacks the double amount of internal storage 32 instead of 64 gb
Yes, but that's not a spec that will determine features like the backup and AOD.
I have a 200gb sd card, storage is sorted.
We have a slightly larger battery and slightly smaller display.
Damn, I got the August security update this morning, but it was only 25mb, so no change to the Samsung backup and no update for the OAD either.
This is for non carrier AU firmware
Hi, I think you are looking for "Samsung Cloud", not Galaxy Cloud. It appears between "Google" and "Backup e ripristino" (if u have an italian language set-up) in the "Inpostazioni" of the phone. I suppose it can be nice if it helps for transferring datas and/or apps on a new Samsung phone. It has not really transferred apps, I suppose it just works as Google bkp does: it takes a list of datas who will be downloaded from the store. I hope it will get app datas too.
Thanks, I've seen the new Samsung Cloud backup on a Note 7, I still don't have that on my S7 Edge.
With such a small update I was thinking I wasn't going to get what the Italian update got.
I got Samsung cloud yesterday on my S7 edge.
Seems pretty useless to me, like most samsung additions...
If you look past the first lot of options there is a data backup area where you can do a lot more than before.

Thanks, exactly what I have. But you probably did not notice it uses very little bkp space: after a full bkp it used 3,8Mb of my space. I have about 150 apps in my telephone.
Even for only app datas it is not enough.
Yes, this is not the new Cloud Backup that is on the Note 7. It's much more advanced, this is basic and I think it has been this way the whole time but I have ignored it.
Lo and behold, I just got a notification of another update, 150mb, so downloading now. Looks like it will have some changes.
Ok, I got the Cloud Samsung app, it's a whole new section by itself, with the regular Backup and Reset section below. Inside the Cloud Backup it's the same as the Note 7, with the same options, but this update has not given the Note 7's UI.
It runs Marshmallow, but if you've seen it, the quick settings are is different and the Settings menu has been overhauled.
Apart from the Cloud App I can't see a difference in my phone, but never mind, this will do for now.

System memory taking too much storage - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 -

Hi there,
First of all, sorry because English is not my mother tongue. I will try to explain my problem here as well as I can but I say sorry in advance for any error that I could make when writing this post here.
Few days ago I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I have barely used it but after few days I realised that nearly 50Gb (49.3 Gb) are already taken by "System/user data" according to what it is specified in the "Device care" storage options of the phone.
As I said, I have had no time to use the device yet apart from receiving a pair of calls with it and trying to install the F-Droid application. The day when I installed F-Droid I downloaded from there the Termux terminal to check if I could be able to check the F-Droid apk agaisnt the signature to verify the download.
One of the days I began to receive notifications to upload the system. I received many of these and I proceeded to allow all of them. There was a moment when I had the impression that the notifications were too many and when I began to read them carefully I noticed that some of them were similar to the previous ones. Notifications continued but I stopped to allow them. By then the display of the device has changed. I think this was due to the change from Android Oreo to Pie.
Some time after I realised about the problem that I mention here. I have not saved any content to the phone yet (no photos, no videos, even I have not set my email there yet).
I tried to reset the mobile to its factory settings. I had no worries of doing that because as I said I had nothing yet important on my phone. After trying that a pair of times the problem of the system storage was still there.
I have tried to use CCleaner and LTE CLeaner to solve this issue without any success. I have tried to dial *#9900# on the phone and then select from menu - "delete dumpstate/logcat" as proposed in Androidforums. I was able to perform this latter mentioned procedure but nothing changed (I have read that for some people is not possible to do this latter because their carriers do not allow them to use this option - *#9900#-)
The other solution that I read and that I have not tried yet is to root the phone and manually trying to find and delete the files which may be taking the storage, however I am hesitant to do so because I have no experience at all and it is a brand new and expensive phone as you know. I feel bad thinking about trying to root and solve this problem by myself and voiding completely my guarantee of the device.
I am still in the period of 15 days in which I can return the phone according the law for protecting customers of my country, however I am afraid that if I go back to the store from where I bought the device and ask there for a change to a new Note 9 they might tell me that everything is just my fault for having installed some apps from outside the Google and Samsung official apps stores.
Do you think I am already out of guarantee for just installing F-Droid and Termux?
Could you give me some advice about how to deal with this issue? Would be possible to avoid the rooting procedure to solve this problem?
Thank you very much for your help.
Any help so far?
Ok the system user data is where apps store their stuff. If you didn't root then you don't even have access to it. So I'm betting that most of it is normal storage stuff. Even my 64 gb uses 22gb of stuff that I can't touch but that is normal.

Well considering that without root you have no access to that partition. I am almost sure that it is normal for the apps you have installed. The only way to find out for sure is to factory reset and look at the storage amount is by default. The more apps you install the more that partition will fill up. ITs not unknown. IT is app data. You must be new to android.

Like I said. That is a partition you have zero control over without root. Mine is stiing at 22gb out of 64.
Even if you did clear it out. You wouldn't be able to use that storage for anything as it is not a user access able storage area
Another pic:
The first time when I passed CCleaner in the storage analysis section of that app it pointed out just something more than 2 GB of system data ... however as I said before the effective taken storage showed by Device care was still nearly 50GB.
Also there is discrepancy with the "Files" app from Google. This latter just point point out to 14.46 GB used out of 512 GB.

50gb out of 512 sounds about right for a samsung device. I wouldnt trust CCleaner. Also without root no app will be able to even read anything on the system partition properly.
The system is broken up into like 20 different partitions.
To be honest I wouldnt worry about it and here is why. Even if you cleared it out and made it empty you still would not be able to use that space as it is for app data only. Which samsung encludes alot of.
