Okay so I can't find any other threads on here about this, but if you know one, please put the link below.
My friend's motorola charm is really messed up: The screen will only show the lock screen and the status bar. If I press the menu button, nothing happens to my knowledge because I can't see anything. She says that the keyboard buttons are functional, however, I'm not so sure they are. I tried to hard reset it, but couldn't get to the hboot menu. I looked up countless pages, and tried all of the suggestions.
I held down the camera button and power, camera power and volume down, power and x, power and delete, just about everything...
Any suggestions? How can I get the screen working again and if I have to hard reset it what should I do?

Well for any of you that saw my long post about problems, I give up. Trying to hard reset.
BUT...
Instructions I find say this:
Turn the power off. If your Samsung Captivate is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
Hold the Volume Down button
Press and release the Power button
You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
Press and release the Power button
Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
But when I do that I get a completely different menu. I get this:
Reboot System Now
Reinstall packages
Delete all user Data
Delete Cache Data
I finally use d Delte all user data and that did it.
But to make a long story a alot shorter, it is booting up with all these Sorry messages about differen Google process not starting. And I do see the finance clock screen I had messed with that still had a stock quote in it. So, I'm sure it is not fully hard resetting.
Any ideas?
[EDIT]
Tried another hard rest, and it came up with this big yellow triangle wiht an android mopping the floor, and saying Downloading... Do not turn off target!!!
WTF???
[EDIT2]
What I wonder may be the problem now is, I had rooted the phone. I did it with the method described on this forum, or maybe the other one I frequent, that edited one item in the Update file, and that file is still on the phone. I think I'll hunt down that thread and post a question about this there.
Good News!
For anyone reading this and is interested, the fix was to apply the factory rom. I utilized info in this thread.

thanks sort of figure it out just!
you know you should use the search button instead of just posting a new thread. maybe you just got your phone and you want to learn everything about it but you are making it harder to reach information. same question is replied several times before if you do a search which is very very easy you can find the answer. that is the point of forums. you search first and if you can not find the answer despite your search then you post a thread. this sensation forum is becoming useless because people are just posting without searching and it is becoming a garbage forum.
The title pretty much says it all. I just flashed to the new HD revolution Rom (6.1.2) and the top button now wont reset or turn off the phone while held. It will put it to sleep when pressed but holding it does nothing. I would have posted this in the Rom thread but I don't have enough posts since I am a new user. Not sure if this is a wide spread issue or not.
with the new sense 3.0 and the mods, you have to hold the button longer than normal.
BY THE WAY....there is an entire Q&A section just for this type of stuff. there is even a dedicated thread for ARHD....

I installed the SFM 3.0 rom in my HTC Magic, great rom, everything works great, but... there is a little problem that is bugging me, every time I try to turn the phone on pressing the power button, it won't turn on!!, the only way to solve the problem is to pull the battery off the phone and then put it back in place, press the power button and... voilá!! the phone turns on again. Is there any way to solve this problem? I'll appreciate any help.

Important: The Fast boot option in Settings > Power must not be selected.
Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.
Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.
htc one max hard reset
but "The Fast boot option in Settings > Power must not be selected"
do a trick
first press and hold power button then do restart wile restarting hold the volume down button you will reach in to boot loader

Hi,
As far as I've ever known, a factory reset, or reflashing your stock or custom rom is the only way to get into the device now. That's exactly what the password is for, so no one can access your data. So any option to bypass the password involves wiping your data completely.
Sorry, but that's how it works by design.
Good luck!
Thank you. Thread closed.
