CM9 for Sensation will be "round 2" - HTC Sensation

According to the latest CM9 post (released today), the first batch of devices that will get CM9 are Samsung's Exynos powered units. Following that, Qualcomm MSM8660 based devices (such as the Sensation) will get some love. Now, I suspect we will get some CM9 action before the "official" release, but at least we can plan accordingly knowing that the Sensation is not at the top of the development list.

It's not about what "round" we're in, you missed the important part of that blog post...
Android 4.0 contains many internal changes that require updated graphics drivers. Unfortunately, these drivers are almost always closed-source and don’t appear until a device or devkit is released with them. For many devices, our hands are tied... As much as we’d like to stay ahead of the manufacturers, it may be a tie this time.

Agreed

HTC fans, though we love HTC phones but this ridiculous of HTC, we as a community must pressure HTC to release those drivers. Please ask Cyanogen Team what do they need.
Twitter @HTCdev @HTC demand them to release or our next phone will be Samsung.

I'm pretty tempted by CM9... I have been using ARHD up to now because I preferred Sense to the stock look, but I think I prefer the stock ICS look over what I've seen of Sense 4.0.

Cyanogen works for Samsung now so of course the samsung devices will get first dibs... im pretty certain my next phone will be a samsung phone due to this since i find cyanogenmod to be miles ahead of anything else

Trips version is getting stable!

I think it would be more probable to think that since ICS was first released on a samsung phone that it would be easier/faster to get CM9 working on other samsung phones with the same processor..that is more likely to be the reason they are getting it first.

HTC has already come out and said they will release ICS on the Sensation (this quarter if I recall). That means the drivers will be available, and someone will be able to cobble together 'some sort' of CM9 ROM. However, my point was that the CM team is not planning on immediately releasing an "official" CM9 ROM for the Sensation in the near future.

Well the CM team doesn't work on one device at a time. Every device has their own maintainer. I believe that as soon as HTC releases ICS for the Sensation, someone from the CM team will finish CM9 and have it released for our phone.

Just so everyone knows, CM has still not officially released a "stable" version of CM7 for the Sensation. Right now the only version available is "alpha", and it doesnt look like they are going to continue working on it. Based on that, I suspect it will likely be summer (at the EARLIEST) before we get official CM9 support.

Inspire to get ICS

Posted by LindsayC on 5 Dec 2011 2:52 PM
I was told by an HTC colleague, Stephanie, yesterday night, via e-mail that my phone, the HTC Inspire 4G (AT&T) would indeed be getting upgraded to the Android 4.0 IceCream Sandwich OS in "Early 2012"

Found on the HTC support site I know that everyone is saying it wont get it due to no dual core but could they somehow optimize it for us? most likely AT&T wouldnt be getting the upgrade because they are lame but what about unlocked inspires? Just wanted to share this with the community
They lied.

ICS ROM is already in beta here on xda. Was for no dual for being a reason, Google has already stated that it would run on any phone they could run Ginger.

...oh yeah, non-rooted phones because you know, that was stated in the OP how silly of me to not infer this. Like I said and my comment speaks for itself, whether or not we get ICS officially isn't the question, the beta is out, rooted phones will get it. If you or anyone likes ICS that much and needs it, consider getting a phone that will support it non-rooted or just root your inspire if it means that much. Again, another pointless thread about ICS. Nothing has changed, it is still the same information.
AT&T always ends life of a phone after 2-3 updates. They don't support phones for very long because they're more worried about making money from new phones. If they supported their old phones, they'd lose their precious money.

Not only will ICS run perfectly fine on a single core fun (I have Beta IV) it uses less RAM than gingerbread does.
And I know this isn't the right place for it, but because I have no other posts I can't ask in development...
Have any of you guys found an Undervoltable Kernel that will work with ICS?
This really is gonna be a never ending issue. This will always be happening unless you get a nexus or euro unbranded version of the phone. As long as the carriers control the updates we may get one maybe two updates but that will be about it. This has always been and always will be the case

Well see thats the thing. HTC nor anyone else has or will ever release the driver source code as it is not theirs to give. This has always been my issue with AOSP roms. the open source drivers just cant stand up to the OEM drivers.

anyone still on cm7, waiting for cm9? passing on all current ICS roms

anyone still on cm7, passing on all current ICS roms, and waiting for CM9?
I've been using CM7 since it came out. I flashed virt. quatto just to see what ICS looks like, then went back to CM7.
post here if you are like me!
ive been waiting for a stable CM7 on the sensation for over a year now... CM7 alpha10 is pretty close but still not a daily driver.. i dont see a stable CM9 on our phones within the next year.. there are some good AOSP ICS roms though like Virtuous Inquisition which will have to do for now. ever since Samsung hired Cyanogen, you pretty much need a Samsung phone (Galaxy Nexus) for good CM support
the only reason i am using a Sensation right now is because it is the only high end phone (dual core) that supports my $5/mo tzones plan, else I would probably have a Galaxy S2 or the Nexus right now since i much prefer CyanogenMod
I'm in same situation
several past phones (Desire GSM, Atrix 4G) and current Pyramid are on CM7.1
I use Automatic Backlight feature, it's absent in other ROMs, I like Dialer and Contacts in CM.
Tried multiple ICS ROMs but I am unable to use them. Cannot remove contact's pictures from contact list (I don't use concact pictures at all), no adjustable automatic backlight, Volume rocker Wake and so on.
I do not use Google Account at all, all programs I install manually after flashing ROM. No market app, no Gmail, no GTalk. No Sence.
CM is the best for me
I have many phones flashed to CM7.1 and tried the alpha 10 for sensation too. But there are many lacks (e.g. reboot when recording video, battery after 10 hours down to 20%) so I went back and waiting for CM9.
This is my own opinion, I don't believe well even get an alpha build of any kind from kmobs at this point of development even in the next year or two years. I asked him about it an he said he was compiling it at that time.
It tells me a lot by that response from him. That he is a perfectionist that want to do everything by himself an I'm pretty sure that he's gotten help by cm team. And that since he got a GN and amaze he may be too busy to focus on sensation. He said he isn't working on those two but I mean if you had to pick between those two and sensation I might pick them.
The best way to get fixes is by yes providing him log cats towards certain issues but at the same time having the source helps so it can pinpoint the source of the issue in the build.
Many devices have already been merged and I think one or two were made after the sensation was released. Whether its fair or not he has the most updated source for pyramid and we as the people only have nothing but watch and wait

I agree. Kmobs is still a kid afterall. Hes in school and needs to focus on college if you ask me. He bought a GN for $500.00 out of pocket despite telling us how great his sensation was running his build of ICS. Even though it is his money, its pretty irresponsible for a college student to do. Needing a new phone is one thing, but wanting something newer to play with is another.
I dont think it will take a year to get CM9 to the sensation, as I feel Kmobs will eventually turn over what he has done to someone else on the CM team and they will finish it for us. All his G+ posts seem to focus on the fun he is having with his GN.
Yea its free, but it would be nice of him to turn over what he has to another respected developer in the spirit of open source and all...If he hasnt got the time for CM9, then maybe someone else does. Keep in mind, CM is thinking about starting a for profit marketplace. It would be good business to get CM9 out for the maximum number of phones if they want the maximum number of customers. The sensation might not be all that popular though...
Maybe someone from the CM team could speak to him about turning over the project?

Off Topic. Thread title is "anyone still on cm7, waiting for cm9? passing on all current ICS roms"
I could personally care less about CM9. I am running CM7 now and it works fine. I considered flashing an ICS ROM but they all suck right now. Personally if there was a pure vanilla Android ROM (Gingerbread or ICS) I would run that. If CM9 is the closest I will get to AOSP ICS then I guess I will use that whenever (if??) a stable release ever comes out for the Sensation. To be honest I might even be using a Nexus by that time since development for the Sensation is basically dead.

I counted seven flavours of Sensation ICS ROMs discussed and most are available somewhere online. Only the kmobs 'official' CM9 seems to be lost this year.
On Rootzwiki I asked if the following list was up to date. Here it is. Some exist and some are not, but all are Sensation-specific ROMs in development or possible development.
Will we get up to TEN 'unique' Sensation ROMs soon?
1. TripNRaver already has released three betas of his AOSP ROM for Sensation, over at Modaco.
2. HTC Leaked ICS ROM. Lots of tuning and updates of the major 'brands' of Sensation ROMs at XDA Sensation Developers forum, for 4.03 ICS and Sense 4.0 leak.
3. Virtuous Quattro (AOSP) ported to Sensation at XDA Developers forum.
4. MIUI developer petitioned to release a Sensation ICS MIUI (250+ votes for it). 新年快樂 !
5. TripNRaVer previously mentioned he could do an ICS MIUI port once the CM9 Sensation ROM was working.
6. TripNRaVer yesterday released his own CM9 beta ROM for Sensation.
7. Cyanogenmod 9 team (Keyan Mobli aka kmobs, others?) may be still developing the CM9 ROM, unless there has been any announcement otherwise. No recent news in 2012, though.
8. ? Anyone have another ROM for Sensation that's not a variant of or based on one of the above?
9. ?
10. ?
TripNRaver released a beta CM9 over at MoDaCo, fyi.

There are only four "distinct" ICS ROMs available. Trips CM9 leak, the two Virtuous builds, and MAYBE Android Revolution. Everything else is just a themed version of one of the above.
yup still waiting. most ics AOSP roms arent fully stable.

Nearing an ICS update? I think so.

T-Mobile has had leaked ICS Roms for both HTC devices running Sense 3.0. The Sensation 4G, and Amaze 4G. Most people felt like the Amaze would never get the 3.6 Update. But now they have a leaked RUU, bloat and all. Now that a good number of Sense 3.0 devices have an ICS update. I think it's time for the Doubleshot to get a ICS update. The Gingerbread RUU was leaked before this phone came out. I'm sure Football will manage to get a leaked Rom. We have all the proper specs, and I know we have 1 Million plus ICS Update threads. But with all the new updates, come on. It's about time.

Ya... But I just don't see any signs that T-Mobile or HTC is going to release a ROM like that for our phone. Hopefully they do tho!

Either way, we've been making stunning progress even without an official update.
Have you checked out the sticky on ICS configuration tree in the dev section?
That's some great progress
I encourage anyone who knows anything dev to pop in and see if they can help. It will make cooking roms much easier and also greatly increase our chances of CM support.

Undeadk9 was claiming that he knew a "level 3" tech support at T-Mobile who told him there would not be any ICS for MT4GS. I heard all that sort of crap back when I had a Moto Cliq and the MT3GS, some "friend" in "tech support" telling bullsh*t. No doubt there is a friend, but believing that friend has information that nobody else has is very unrealistic.
T-Mobile updated even the ancient original MyTouch from 1.6 all the way to Froyo 2.2. I don't see them completely abandoning this phone, especially since the hardware is so similar to their other models like the Amaze 4G and Sensation 4G. HTC would only need to incorporate the Genius system.

You just confirmed that you really don't know sh*t. EOL has no bearing on whether a phone receives an update. T-Mobile has updated many phones long after they went EOL in their system. The entire MyTouch lineup, including the original, got updated to Froyo within a few months of each other, LOOOOOOONG after they had all gone EOL.
And what's the crap about no development on this phone? You can't be taken seriously spewing crap like that. Look around, dude. Here and Virtuous are full of dev for this phone.

And the closest to stable is DeSensed, which is ridiculous considering imitation widgets are GARBAGE in comparison.

I threw AOKP in the mix by mistake. Either way, you're missing the point. There are stable (DEFINE: something I can use daily, with features I won't miss - obviously that differs from person to person) ICS roms out there. And if something like autobrightness isn't working, and that's what got you in a hunch, then you need to stick to the stock rom. Honestly I could care less about little quibbles like that.
My point is 95% of what you would need, even on a daily basis is working. And for some roms, it's even more than that. That's pretty outstanding considering we don't even have an official kernel or update.
Honestly, this thread has spiraled into a pointless opinion thread.
I refrain from posting any further.
You may think what you wish
I keep seeing people on here saying "phones with sense 3.0". I hope yall realize that we don't even have a real version of Sense.. its a Rosie/Doubleshot version. I don't see HTC modifying/myTouching the new version of sense and ICS for the doubleshot.

I am sticking with it and telling you that you will not see ICS for the MyTouch 4G Slide as an official T-Mobile USA Release.

Which is simply your uninformed and unknowing opinion, no more credible than anyone which differs. You claimed to have "inside information", which is pure bullsh*t.
I hope so. None of the custom ICS ROMs are stable, always several things missing or not working that prevent me from using it long term and those ROMs havent been updated in over a month.
Like I've said in several ics threads like this, the mytouch 4g will not receive ics.
Reason being, the mt4g has T-Mobile's sense version(my sense). For the mytouch 4g to be able to receive ics, T-Mobile would have to get rid of their mysense version of sense which they won't do on a T-Mobile specific device or HTC would have to create 2 versions of ics, one compatible with mytouch 4g's mysense and a regular ics for the rest of the devices.
You guys also gotta realize we didn't even receive a sense 3.0 update.
U all keep forgetting that HTC rebranded the phone in canada to the HTC Panache...
So its not only a MYSENSE Tmobile phone
so it is possible that other carriers in canada request that ICS gets on this phone
thats my 2 cents on this subject

yea i was thinking about that.. maybe the panache version will get the update
i hope so, but honestly i doubt it because i dont think there are many panache users here most would have went with the amaze or galaxy nexus

Exactly, in Canada. If my memory serves me rights, they didn't even receive android 2.3.4.
But lets say he Canadian version of the mytouch receives ics, the US T-Mobile won't. Again same reason, panache=sense/T-Mobile mytouch 4g=mysense.

Kernel source posted for One S!

And away we go!

Hah! I wonder if it has anything to do with the e-mail I sent to Peter Chou (htc's CEO) regarding their blatant disregard for GPL rules and continued dishonesty with the community? I'd like to think it was. I'll just pretend for the moment that I made it happen (lol, somehow I doubt it).
I called them on their BS on claiming that the community agreed that 90-120 days was acceptable.
Without a real kernel dev this isn't much worth, in the one x forum's are still not stable and there are real pro's.
Let's see..
I'm pretty sure I know why they waited. Today was the beginning of the update for the One S on T-Mobile US. If I'm not mistaken, T-Mobile's One S is the last one to get the radio and software update to match the rest of the One S devices. So it sort of makes sense, they didn't release the kernel sources until after the update was ready. I, personally, am not bothered cuz I just got my One S today, but I can completely understand the frustration for the 1st day buyers on T-Mo, and the global versions, since you guys have been waiting months now, it would seem. Either way, It's here now, and that means we all will get to reap the benefits. Now, where's my OTA already? LOL
Couldn't see U.S. listed in there.

While it does seem that HTC waited for the update to release the source... It's unfortunate that they didn't include the source for the US Tmobile version yet.... This probably won't be an issue since most run EU roms anyways(AOKP for me)... The One X for At&t is still waiting for source... As torxx mentioned source means nothing without someone to develop a kernel... Hopefully we will see something on the horizon sooner rather than later

About time. HTC have dragged their heels for far too long.
Excited for all the new kernels.
Where is ProTekk??
Wohooo! Time to get building! If we're lucky, we can get CM9 running perfectly now. *Gets on it*
Does this mean aokp/cm9 roms will work better? Or better yet will they be able to be completed with working camcorder etc.?
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA
It's great to see that HTC is releasing kernel source code for devices even if they aren't releasing it for other devices, such as the HTC amaze 4G.

S4 source should be fairly stable. I should have a kernel built for you guys later tonight. One x tegra source was a mess which is why tegra is taking awhile.

I just noticed that myself. Seems odd. Maybe someone can find out what version the kernel is and compare it to the sources already posted. It seems, however, that this 1.84 update hasn't hit any XDA members yet, since I haven't seen anyone on here post that they received it yet. I saw a lot of talk about an unlocked bootloader being enough to prevent an update from being performed, but I think it's all rumor. I could be wrong though. I have yet to unlock the bootloader & root, because I'm waiting to find out what issues I will run into later. For instance, this Tampered banner sort of has me worried. Plus, re-locking the device has its own separate banner from Locked? Has me really concerned about any potential warranty exchanges in the future, should my device need one. Hopefully this all gets sorted out. I'm really liking Sense, this is my first time using it, and fortunately I got a slimmed down version, vs. 3.x & older. But I do have an itch to go back to some AOSP ICS like I had going on my G2x last month. Either way, I haven't even signed into my Google account yet, and I've had the phone about 7 hours now. There's plenty to do without needing to enter my Google credentials.

JB Source Drop

So the JB source just dropped into AOSP
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/android-building/XBYeD-bhk1o
Guess what? We can't do crap since we don't have kernel source.
Time to bring out the big guns and point them towards HTC.
It might be coming today. HTC has been added sources all afternoon. 41 So far.

Trust me, if I had the kernel source I would
I wonder how different the kernels are between ICS and JB... I'll be experimenting tomorrow.

They still adding them? I was kind of confused by the dev site (are there really only like 2 phones for USA that have sources posted or did I search incorrectly?)
Don't search its jacked. The last one I saw added was over an hour ago.
Is this AT&T's doing or HTC? whos to blame here?
Who knows. I blaming ATT because they're also blocking google wallet.... but,
1) if HTC is still working on minor patches for ATT version, they might want to wait for final for release.
2) Maybe it's just ATT being greedy and being a _____
I think #2
I'll say it again. Att isn't the only carrier with the evita. If they violate the gpl they jeopardize their entire Android line. I tend to think HTC is waiting to release source after the coming update.

that would be super.... i'll stay just a little angry for now
hope CM will release ICS4.1 quickly
So no updates on this? Guess HTC didnt release SC for our phone afterall..
How many carriers worldwide have the evita? It is pretty disappointing we don't have kernel source yet
I've never had to be this patient with any Android device I've owned but that's maybe because this is my first AT&T phone. The only thing that keeps me on this phone is imagining the amount of ROM's that will flood the development section once the source is released! We could technically port every ROM here. The true potential will be unlocked! And battery life will improve because of profiles.. I guess I'll keep dreaming.

lucky. I've sat through the "waiting for source" forum storm with every android phone I've had. maybe I make horrible decisions lol.. jk
Just out of curiosity have you talked to Vin from the CM9 thread? He was working on integrating jelly bean into the CM9 build a couple hours ago.
